What makes a crowd at a Scott Wiener event &#8220;boo&#8221; in disgust? A woman saying that a man who identifies as a woman is not, in fact, a woman.
&#8220;They are men,&#8221; Tish Hyman, the woman at the center of a viral video calling for men to stay out of women&#8217;s locker rooms, told the crowd Monday night. Hyman flew across the state for Wiener&#8217;s first appearance as a congressional candidate. He was doing an interview with Mission Local, a news outlet in San Francisco, in front of a sold-out crowd.

&#8220;As a lesbian woman who was attacked in a woman&#8217;s locker room at Gold&#8217;s Gym this week by a self-identifying trans woman with a documented history of domestic violence, I&#8217;m deeply concerned about women&#8217;s safety,&#8221; Hyman told Wiener as he opened the floor up for questions.
&#8220;What would you say to women who are seeking assurance that their safety will be protected from men who, by California law, can self-identify as women in women-only spaces?&#8221; Hyman asked.
The state senator, who has taken no action to protect women from men in any space, replied in part: &#8220;Trans women are women.&#8221;
Hyman vehemently disagreed, and the crowd erupted in boos.
&#8220;Trans women are women,&#8221; someone yelled at Hyman from across the room.
Wiener attempted to answer Hyman&#8217;s question on how he would protect women.
&#8220;I mean, I want everyone to be safe and we have trans people &#8212; both men and women who are men and women&#8230;&#8221; Wiener said.
It&#8217;s not the answer Hyman wanted to hear. The leftist crowd turned on Hyman, who still made her points clear to Wiener. She said it&#8217;s the first of many conversations she hopes to have with him to make California safer.
&#8220;I see a lot of these bills that are dangerous for women and young children. I am telling you as a woman first and foremost, this is dangerous. We need your help because you&#8217;re in the office,&#8221; Hyman said.
Wiener claimed he appreciates Hyman&#8217;s point of view, but &#8220;trans women are also brutalized in this country.&#8221;
Hyman boldly told the state senator in response to his statement that trans women aren&#8217;t women. She said it as clearly as she has in every video she&#8217;s made since being catapulted into the fight for women&#8217;s rights.
One of the trans-identifying men Hyman exposed in her videos for allegedly harassing her in the women&#8217;s locker room had a lengthy rap sheet of charges, including domestic violence. The Daily Wire obtained arrest <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trans-identifying-man-at-center-of-viral-gym-video-once-slammed-ex-wifes-head-into-toilet">records</a> for Grant Freeman, which said he slammed his ex-wife into a toilet seat.
She told that to the crowd, too. Crickets. Before she left the venue, she let Wiener know she thought he was doing nothing to protect women.
Hyman said after her exchange with Wiener that she wants women to know she will not stop fighting.
&#8220;Collectively, we have the strength to win this together,&#8221; she said.

Like Zohran Mamdani, Scott Wiener is the frightening face of a new Democratic Party, in which letting children get transgender surgeries is just the tip of the iceberg. From letting the state take gay kids away from their parents to legalizing pedophilia, Wiener makes even the most radical member of Congress look like a moderate.

If you think men don’t belong in girls’ bathrooms, kids shouldn’t get irreversible sex changes, or cops should stop street prostitution of minors, Scott Wiener probably thinks you’re a bigot.
Indeed, it seems easy to offend Wiener, the San Francisco Democrat running for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D.) seat — and anyone who holds mainstream or conventional views on biology, women’s or parents’ rights, or conservative governance frequently does.
Last month, Wiener found it “<a href="https://x.com/WomenAreReals/status/1982259108108743044" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gross</a>” that San Francisco women turned up at his annual Halloween event to protest his transgender policies. He called the late Charlie Kirk a “vile bigot”<a href="http://sd11.senate.ca.gov/news/senator-wiener-responds-governor-newsoms-comments-transgender-women-sports" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> before</a> and<a href="https://x.com/Scott_Wiener/status/1967604784757940280" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> after</a> the conservative activist was brutally, publicly murdered. Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk are also “bigots,&#8221; and Republican diplomat Richard Grenell is a “<a href="https://x.com/Scott_Wiener/status/1673352593530294273" target="_blank" rel="noopener">self-hating gay man.</a>”
The people he approves of are very different — like a<a href="https://www.thesisters.org/roma" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> gay porn-purveying drag queen</a> from the anti-Catholic drag troupe Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, whom<a href="https://abc7news.com/post/sister-roma-state-capitol-protest-the-sisters-of-perpetual-indulgence-honored-in-sacramento/13348438/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> he honored</a> on the California Senate floor as “one of the very best community leaders,” as well as San Francisco’s former soft-on-crime district attorney George Gascón, with whom he has<a href="https://scott-wiener.medium.com/moving-toward-decarceration-191c99638896" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> collaborated</a> on legislation. San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair, a public nudity-and-group sex festival whose attendees are<a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/1nmtl0l/first_time_at_folsom_street_fair_tips/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> advised</a> to watch out for men peeing on one another, is a “<a href="https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=777812248385874" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beautiful community</a>” that Wiener is “proud to stand up for.”
Wiener’s personal proclivities loom large in the California State Senate, where he’s served since 2016. But they could soon have national relevance: Weiner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-trans-leftist-launches-bid-for-pelosis-seat-before-she-has-a-chance-to-announce-retirement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> his intent to run for Pelosi’s seat a full two weeks before the veteran California Democratic operator announced she would retire after four decades in Washington.
Pelosi’s retirement will kick off a brutal succession bid in California. The former speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Potential+Pelosi+Successor+Pushed+A+Bill+So+Woke%2C+Even+The+New+York+Times+Has+Doubts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly favors</a> San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan as her successor.
But Wiener is a real contender — which is bad news for anyone who wants California to keep its policies to itself.
<h3>Justice For Pedophiles</h3>
In the Golden State, Wiener has pushed socially seismic policies that allow male sex offenders live in female prisons if they claim to be transgender, to exempt gay sex offenders from the state registry if the minor is at least 14 and within a 10-year age gap, and to make California a “haven” for out-of-state kids to come for sex changes without their parents’ consent.
And these laws have already wreaked notable havoc. One of the first male inmates to enter California’s female prison is standing trial for allegedly raping two women cellmates — with the judge<a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/pronoun-use-center-rape-case-involving-former-chowchilla-central-california-womens-facility-prisoner-tremaine-carroll/15696730/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> insisting</a> that the offender be referred to as a woman throughout the proceedings, even though he impregnated at least one female inmate.
Wiener also authored a bill that decriminalized streetwalking because he found anti-loitering laws “discriminatory” against transgender people and “people of color.” The law has effectively blocked cops from taking trafficked minors off the streets and led to an uncontrollable<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/magazine/sex-trafficking-girls-la-figueroa.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> spike in sex trafficking</a> of young girls, so much so that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/potential-pelosi-successor-pushed-a-bill-so-woke-even-the-new-york-times-has-doubts?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Potential+Pelosi+Successor+Pushed+A+Bill+So+Woke%2C+Even+The+New+York+Times+Has+Doubts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">even the New York Times</a> finds the law problematic.
But Wiener shows no signs of backing down. His critics say it’s due to the personal nature of his policy stances, which make it impossible to get him to moderate his legislation.
“Since I’ve been going to Sacramento to his legislative hearings, I’ve seen him treat us pretty badly, in public, during sessions,” said Julie Lane, co-founder of Women Are Real, a Bay Area feminist advocacy group that fights gender ideology. “He’ll have long discussions on his committees and as soon as it’s an issue we’re involved with, he’ll leave the room, or get on his phone, or say we’re ‘anti-trans activists.’”
“He won’t listen to us.” 
<h3>“He’s Looked At As A Bully”</h3>
Wiener was born in Philadelphia and grew up in New Jersey, where, after graduating from Harvard Law School, he clerked for the state supreme court justice who wrote a <a href="https://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=16151905477157446342" target="_blank" rel="noopener">landmark 1975 decision</a> deeming that a trans-identifying man should be treated as female in a marriage contract and could collect spousal support after his divorce.
He moved to San Francisco in 1997, practicing in a now-dissolved corporate law firm and working in the city attorney’s office before he was elected to the county’s Board of Supervisors.
There, according to one conservative local, he was “popular and moderate and even likable” when he first started.
“What we’ve learned over time is that career politicians start slipping further left year after year. And the farther up the ladder they go, they get even more left,” said Richie Greenberg, a leader of the successful recall campaign of the city’s former left-wing district attorney Chesa Boudin.
Greenberg added that many San Franciscans see Wiener as a “carpetbagger” who went to Sacramento as a state senator to force changes in the city that he couldn’t make as a local lawmaker.
“What he supports is often not agreed on by constituents here, and that’s what gets locals upset,” he said. “He’s looked at as a bully, among other things. He has passed legislation that has stripped away the ability of cities to control things.”
Wiener touts his past post on the national board of directors of the Human Rights Campaign — a radical George Soros-funded organization behind the push to force transgenderism into the medical system and K-12 schools.
He’s done the same thing in the state legislature. Wiener has proved a powerful figure on the California state senate’s public safety committee, where he’s fought to soften criminal penalties and permit open public drug injection sites. Last year, he caused a furor when he opposed making it a felony to purchase 16 and 17-year-olds for sex, stating that “Sending an 18-year-old high school senior to state prison for offering his 17-year-old classmate $20 to fool around isn’t smart criminal justice policy.”
Those who have opposed him in hearing rooms or in the real world say he either ignores them completely or hits them with emotional arguments divorced from reality.
Consider SB 132, his 2020 law that allowed men into female prisons — and which, from its early days, led to a long string of complaints by women that some of their male cellmates were threatening, harassing, and assaulting them.
Amie Ichikawa, founder of the group Woman II Woman, which advocates for women prisoners, said Wiener’s office has answered her about other, unrelated issues but continues to ignore her reports about this law.
“I had gotten a phone call about a rape, and I said, ‘I need to speak to Sen. Wiener about SB 132 and the people taking advantage of it — I can’t take another phone call about another rape,’” Ichikawa said. “I never got any responses to that.”
Later, she went to the state capitol and personally handed Wiener letters from female inmates themselves about SB 132. “The letters were pleading with him and the governor to remember them, said that we’re all survivors of sexual abuse, how can you do this to us?” she said.
He never responded.
Last year, one of Wiener’s Republican State Senate colleagues responded to the growing reports of SB 132’s safety risks by introducing a bill that would have established separate housing for the trans-identifying males and banned convicted sex offenders from moving into women’s prisons at all.
Wiener opposed these proposed reforms during a hearing and claimed the state’s sex offender registry targeted “LGBTQ people.”
“We also know that LGBTQ people have been massively and disproportionately targeted and subjected to being slammed onto the sex offender registry,” Wiener<a href="https://calmatters.digitaldemocracy.org/hearings/258956?t=1479&amp;f=e17600b674ef3117c38ca500eb9270ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> said</a> at the time. “That’s the whole history of the sex offender registry.”
<h3>&#8220;Just A Little Bit Off&#8221;</h3>
A longtime Bay Area activist who knows and likes Wiener personally agreed that he fails to look at the true effects of his legislation — although she attributes the reason to the powerful funding groups behind progressive policies he pushes.
“I think he has good intentions,” said Naomi Akers, whom Wiener nominated for the San Francisco Entertainment Commission in 2010. “I think there are a few things that are just a little bit off because I don’t think he’s getting informed from the community, but from a funder-driven activist agenda that is bypassing the community.”
Formerly incarcerated herself, Akers said most former prisoners within the prisoner rights organization she worked with opposed SB 132, but said, “I guess we have to go along with it.”
“I said something about it, and I got fired,” she said.
Akers saw similar issues with Wiener’s SB 357, which legalized “loitering with the intent to commit prostitution.” The law has been<a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/predators-paradise" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> blamed</a> for a spike in sex trafficking and for turning city neighborhoods into dangerous red light districts.
“I think it harms the residents and young women in a community,” she said of the law. “I think it’s unsafe for children and other women walking around. It degrades the safety of a neighborhood and has a detrimental effect on everyone.&#8221;
Parents who have fought Wiener on bills like SB 107, which grants “sanctuary” for gender-confused youth to run away to California for sex-change drugs and procedures, see outright hostility when they voice their opinions in hearing rooms.
<h3>&#8220;Name-Calling Is All He Has.&#8221;</h3>
“Senator Wiener habitually hurls derogatory remarks at us because he cannot engage in a coherent conversation that can justify placing males in females’ spaces,” said Erin Friday, co-lead of Our Duty, a group for parents of gender-confused kids. “He cannot rationalize sex-rejecting interventions, especially the removal of sex organs of children. Devolving to name-calling is all he has.”
In 2023, he co-authored a bill that could have stripped custody from parents who didn’t “affirm” their child’s transgender identity. He blamed public outcry on “a pretty massive misinformation campaign about this bill by the right-wing media,” and claimed opponents wanted “to erase trans kids” and mount “an attack on gay and lesbian kids.”
Yet even as he regularly attacks Californians who oppose him and has consistently voted to lower penalties for violent crime, Wiener has been quick to build up his own defenses — most notably with a co-authored law that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) signed in 2023 to allow politicians to use unlimited donor money for private security.
“Since I was first elected to public office in 2010, we’ve seen a terrifying spike in threats and violence against elected officials — myself included,” he said when the legislation was unveiled. “It’s been harrowing to deal with endless threats on social media; I’ve gotten thousands over the past few years.”
The race to replace Pelosi has yet to take shape, but Wiener seems poised to take the lead. The day he announced his candidacy, he raised more than $730,000 to add to his existing<a href="https://www.fec.gov/data/committee/C00909283/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> $1 million war chest</a>. His top donors include<a href="https://sfstandard.com/2025/10/24/scott-wiener-raises-730k-first-day-campaign-nancy-pelosi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> powerful</a> unions and real estate developers who have backed his laws to override local zoning laws to build dense housing blocs.
Still, Greenberg thinks Wiener’s public manner could hurt him if the race turns competitive.
“He is lashing out,” he said. “It’s like he and Newsom both took petulant pills. I don’t know what happened in the last few months to make them so angry and so off-putting.”

Meet Scott Wiener: Nancy Pelosi’s Likely Replacement Probably Thinks You’re A Bigot

California State Senator Scott Wiener, who last week announced his campaign to replace former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has such a controversial legislative record, even the New York Times is taking notice.
A recent New York Times Magazine <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/magazine/sex-trafficking-girls-la-figueroa.html">report</a> on Los Angeles&#8217; underage sex trafficking epidemic attributed the problem in large part to a law that barred police officers from detaining loitering women they suspected were minors being sex trafficked. Under “Safer Streets for All Act,&#8221; officers have to “swear they had a reason to suspect each girl was underage&#8221; before detaining one of the lingerie-clad women lingering on Figueroa Street, which officers say is made because of difficult because of “fake eyelashes and wigs.”
Wiener was one of the main advocates of that bill, which he said would improve racial equity in Los Angeles. 
“Our bill to repeal the crime of “loitering with intent to commit prostitution” — arresting someone simply for standing on a sidewalk &amp; “appearing” to be a sex worker — passed the Senate,” Wiener wrote on X in June 2021. “This crime targets trans, Black &amp; Brown women &amp; needs to go. Thank you, colleagues!”

In response to a Daily Wire inquiry about the New York Times report, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office said that a recent bill signed this year could help mitigate some of the issues referenced in the story, and called human trafficking “an evil and egregious crime.”
“The Governor signed AB 379 this summer, which will allow police to detain individuals suspected of seeking to purchase sex, and help clear out some of the areas discussed in the article. This new law also provides additional tools to local law enforcement to better hold these criminals performing these heinous crimes accountable,” a Newsom spokesman said in a statement.
Assembly Bill 379, which Newsom signed earlier this year, makes it a misdemeanor &#8220;for any person to loiter in any public place with the intent to purchase commercial sex.&#8221; RedState<a href="https://redstate.com/jenniferoo/2025/10/28/in-a-random-act-of-journalism-new-york-times-exposes-las-corridor-of-human-trafficking-n2195553#google_vignette"> reported</a> that the Los Angeles Police Department had its hands tied prior to the SB 357, as former District Attorney George Gascón had a directive that prevented people from being arrested or charged for &#8220;loitering to commit prostitution.&#8221;
“The reality is — the federal agency that is supposed to combat trafficking is ICE. Maybe Trump and Miller should do their job rather than targeting and terrorizing black and brown American citizens at random on the street,” the statement from Newsom&#8217;s office continued.
Pelosi says she will make <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/22/pelosi-to-announce-plans-after-california-election-in-november-00618093?nid=00000150-384f-da43-aff2-bf7fd35a0000&amp;nname=california-playbook&amp;nrid=e020d956-2db5-4585-996e-4267fbfeb333">announcement</a> regarding her political future in November, after California votes on a major redistricting initiative. It’s unclear whether Wiener’s announcement will set off a major primary battle should Pelosi opt to retire. Pelosi reportedly favors San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan as her successor.
Wiener’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Potential Pelosi Successor Pushed A Bill So Woke, Even The New York Times Has Doubts

As speculation mounts that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will soon announce her retirement, one California lawmaker is wasting no time entering the succession race.
California State Senator Scott Wiener announced his candidacy Wednesday, hours after <a href="https://www.politico.com/playbook" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a> reported that Pelosi may announce her retirement soon after California votes on a controversial redistricting proposal. Wiener, who’s considered one of the most outspoken leftist members of the California State Legislature, did not name Pelosi in his campaign launch video.
“My family escaped fascism in Europe. I never thought the United States would slip into fascism like we’re seeing today,” Wiener said. “San Francisco has always been on the right side of history.”
“Join me now, before everything we believe in is lost for good,” he continued.
Wiener’s bid comes as Democrats continue to debate the concept of letting younger candidates pave the way for the party. Numerous reports surfaced earlier this year about whether Pelosi would run again. Pelosi, who is 85 years old, has been in Congress since 1987. Wiener is 55.
Some of the major campaign points on Wiener&#8217;s campaign website include LGBT issues and countering the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
“He authored the nation’s first LGBTQ refuge law, and expanded privacy protections to prevent harassment and targeting against transgender and nonbinary people. As Senate Budget Chair, he secured $15 million in state funds to cover gender affirming healthcare that Trump is attempting to cut from Medicaid,” his <a href="https://www.scottwiener.com/priorities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a> states, as Wiener’s campaign logo also features a pride flag.
“When masked agents began disappearing people off the street in San Francisco, he passed first of its kind legislation to unmask them. In Congress, he will lead the charge to protect our immigrant neighbors and get ICE OUT OF CALIFORNIA!!!,” Wiener’s site says about immigration.

The anti-masking ICE bill was signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) in September and will take effect in January. However, the legislation has raised questions about how it could be legally enforced, given that it pertains to federal officers.
“Good news for Americans and public safety: [ICE] and [DHS] law enforcement are part of the federal government,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in September after the bill was signed. “We don’t need to abide by this garbage.”
It’s unclear whether Wiener&#8217;s announcement will set off a major primary battle should Pelosi opt to retire. San Francisco has made national headlines in recent days as President Donald Trump considers deploying the National Guard to the city, which state leaders have said will be met with lawsuits. Earlier this week, DHS Assistant Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the city will be a focus of the administration’s ICE efforts.
“We continue to have targeted operations in many, many cities, but also very focused on those where challenges are still remaining, such as Portland, Chicago, we’re in Memphis as well, we’re going to San Francisco at the direction of the president as well,” Noem said, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-to-target-san-francisco-with-immigration-raids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported.

Democrats on the California Senate Public Safety Committee shot down a bill on Tuesday that would have kept male sex criminals out of female prisons.
The committee, which includes far-Left Senator Scott Wiener, voted down a proposal from Republican Senator Shannon Grove to protect women from males who are registered sex offenders from being able to be housed in women&#8217;s prisons. The bill also would have given women privacy in sleeping arrangements and showers, meaning that they would be protected from males who have taken advantage of California&#8217;s lax laws that allow men to be placed in women&#8217;s prisons.
&#8220;Today I am here on behalf of incarcerated women in California prisons who are dealing with the unintended consequences of allowing transgender inmates to be housed in women&#8217;s correction facilities,&#8221; Grove said at the committee hearing. &#8220;Everyone agrees that we need to keep inmates safe and provide additional protections.&#8221;
She noted that she had received a letter from a female inmate discussing how males were being housed in her prison. The letter included a condom that had been distributed by prison staff.
&#8220;Why is the state of California paying for condoms in women&#8217;s prisons?&#8221; Grove asked the committee.
The only lawmaker to support the bill was Senator Kelly Seyarto, the lone Republican on the committee.
Grove&#8217;s bill is seeking to address problems created by <a href="https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/prea/sb-132-faqs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SB 132</a>, a bill sponsored by Wiener that said that inmates should be housed according to their &#8220;gender identity.&#8221; Her legislation would &#8220;establish a secure facility at each women’s prison to house transgender women, in order to protect the security needs of biological women at birth in sleeping and other intimate areas&#8221; and prohibit male sex offenders from being eligible to be assigned to female prisons.
“SB 132 created a preference for transgender individuals. If you are a woman serving in the women’s prison and a transgender self-identified check-the-box person comes in and goes, ‘I want to house with you,’ the woman in that cell has no recourse. They can’t say no because that’s considered discriminatory,&#8221; Grove told The Daily Wire on Monday.
Grove said that she was told before the hearing that the committee planned to kill the bill. She said that the California Democrat supermajority had a “preference for predators versus victims.&#8221;
The bill would only have prohibited males &#8220;convicted of an offense for which they are required to register pursuant to Section 290,&#8221; which include crimes like rape, human trafficking for sexual purposes of a minor, sexual battery, child molestation, sexual penetration with a foreign object, and other horrific crimes.
During his comments, Wiener said that it was common knowledge among kids that prisons had a rape problem. He claimed that the proposal from Grove was motivated by the &#8220;culture war&#8221; and trying to target &#8220;trans people.&#8221; He said people were trying to &#8220;turn trans people into terrifying predators&#8221; trying to scam their way into women&#8217;s prisons. Wiener claimed it would be dehumanizing to not allow men who identify as women into women&#8217;s prisons. He also said that the provision about the sex offender registry was &#8220;discriminatory&#8221; and targeted LGBT people.
Grove had a broad coalition of support from advocates concerned about the safety of women and inmates who have experienced the negative impacts of SB 132. In one letter of support shared with The Daily Wire, one inmate said that she was brutally beaten by a male named Tremaine Carroll who caused her to have a &#8220;spontaneous abortion.&#8221; Carroll, who has since been moved from the women&#8217;s prison, is currently <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/pronoun-use-center-rape-case-involving-former-chowchilla-central-california-womens-facility-prisoner-tremaine-carroll/15696730/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">facing charges</a> of raping multiple women at the prison. A California judge ruled in December that prosecutors have to use female pronouns for him because of his identity.

Another letter in support came from an inmate who said that she was forced to house with a 6&#8217;2&#8221; man who was 200 pounds, describing the environment in prison as the &#8220;wild west.&#8221;
One of those who testified in favor of Grove&#8217;s bill was Amie Ichikawa, a woman who spent nearly five years in a California prison and now advocates to keep males out of female prisons. During her testimony, she asked the committee to back the bill to show that &#8220;protecting women&#8217;s safety is not up for debate&#8221; and asked committee members to value &#8220;people over politics.&#8221;
Recent <a href="https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/research/wp-content/uploads/sites/174/2025/04/SB132.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents</a> from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reveal that at least 45 males who identify as transgender have been transferred into female prisons since implementation of Wiener&#8217;s legislation. In total, there have been nearly 900 males who have requested transfer into women&#8217;s prisons while only 70 females have requested transfers into male prisons. Many of the requests are still being reviewed.
Statistics from 2022 show that 33.8% of the men identifying as women seeking to transfer into women&#8217;s prisons were registered sex offenders and another 25.8% were convicted of sex crimes.
Grove&#8217;s proposal was also supported by Erin Friday, the president of Our Duty, a group that seeks to educate parents about the dangers of transgender medical procedures on kids. Friday, who says she was a longtime Democratic voter before the school system tried to transition her daughter, told The Daily Wire that Grove&#8217;s bill was “a first step in where we need to get which is to get all males out of female prisons and jails.&#8221;
She said that ultimately, Wiener&#8217;s SB 132 needed to repealed, but that there was a lot of work to be done.
“The Democrats won’t even get out the known rapists, the known sex offenders out of the women’s prisons. That’s how much they dislike women,&#8221; she said. &#8220;That’s how much the gender ideologues have to keep their falsehood going. This is so simple. At least get the sex offenders, the known sex offenders out of the women’s prisons.”

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> bill that would make purchasing child sex a felony up from a misdemeanor moved forward on Tuesday, but not before Democrats made significant changes.
The bipartisan <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB1414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> would raise solicitation of a minor from a misdemeanor to a felony punishable by up to four years in prison, and a fine of up to $25,000. The bill would also require a person convicted of soliciting a minor to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
However, the new version of the bill would only allow prosecutors to level felony charges if the minor was under 16, meaning those who attempted to buy sex with a 16-year-old or 17-year-old could still only be charged with a misdemeanor.
On Tuesday, Democrats on the Senate Public Safety Committee <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billVotesClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB1414" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> the bill after making this and several other changes.
The bill&#8217;s author, Republican State Senator Shannon Grove, reacted with dismay to the new amendments, her voice <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/california-sb-1414-passes-changes-made-groves/60515287" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shaking</a> as she responded.
&#8220;To force these amendments on me in front of survivors, to water this down to avoid 16 and 17-year-olds,&#8221; Grove said.
In a statement after the committee hearing, Grove criticized the &#8220;hostile amendments&#8221; to her bill.
Under the new version, buyers would still be &#8220;ineligible for prison&#8221; even if the child they solicited was 15 or younger, she <a href="https://sr12.senate.ca.gov/content/sen-groves-measure-make-purchasing-child-sex-felony-rejected-senate-public-safety-committee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

“I’m incredibly disappointed that not only did my colleagues reject my proposal to make the buying of children for sex a prison felony, but that I was blindsided when they amended my bill without my consent,&#8221; Grove said.
“Unfortunately, the members of the public safety committee continue their soft on crime approach at the expense of California’s most vulnerable, our children,&#8221; she added.
Last week, Grove explained that she spoke to sex trafficking survivors last year who told her, “You’ve got to go after the buyers” in order to really crack down on the child sex trade.
“I want to make the solicitation, the person who’s going out there going, ‘Hey little 13-year-old, 14-year-old, 15-year-old, I want to get that person. I want that person to face felony charges. That’s what the bill does,” Grove said during a phone interview with The Daily Wire.
The Democrat who moved to amend the bill was State Senator Nancy Skinner, who represents the Berkeley area. Two other Democrats, Scott Wiener and committee chairwoman Aisha Wahab voted to move forward with the amendments against Grove&#8217;s will.
Wiener, who represents the San Francisco area, previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-signs-bill-making-california-sanctuary-for-child-gender-surgery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sponsored</a> a law in 2020 that says adults who have oral or anal sex with a child ten years younger than them may not have to register as sex offenders, leaving that decision to a judge. The law supposedly addressed discrimination against LGBT people.
In 2022, Wiener sponsored another law that made California a sanctuary state for child transgender surgery, prohibiting doctors and officials from cooperating with out-of-state attempts to stop a child from getting puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or gender surgery.

Californians are complaining about barely-clothed prostitutes roaming the streets in broad daylight, an issue heightened by Democratic Gov. Newsom signing Senate Bill 357, local officials say. 
SB 357, which was authored by Democratic state Sen. Scott Wiener and backed by the ACLU, decriminalizes “loitering with intent to commit prostitution.” Critics say the law effectively decriminalizes prostitution in California.
National City Mayor Ron Morrison, an independent, recently <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/nearly-naked-prostitutes-prowl-streets-broad-daylight-california-law-ties-cops-hands-mayor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticized</a> the law, telling Fox News that prostitutes are now “wearing less than what you would consider a scanty negligee” and “flaunting it in everybody&#8217;s face.”
Morrison also said the law, which was signed by Newsom last year, ties the hands of law enforcement, stating that the &#8220;moment&#8221; the bill was signed “everyone knew the rules were out the window.”
San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, likewise, told The Daily Wire that the law has &#8220;made it extremely difficult&#8221; for police to get involved. 
&#8220;In the past, you know, when we were able to contact women or those involved in sex trafficking, we could use the &#8216;loitering with intent&#8217; after we watched them. Once they decriminalize that, we really don’t have an entryway into making that contact anymore,” he said during a phone interview.
“What we’re seeing now, is we have these open sex markets, 24 hours a day, 365 days out of the year,&#8221; the police chief said. 
Morrison claimed police also can&#8217;t apprehend these women for indecent exposure, since the way that law is written, if their genitals are covered, they can’t be arrested.

Video footage from the Bay Area and San Diego, in particular, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W70hQknsCM&amp;t=173s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show</a> women walking the streets in g-strings, bras, and high heels, sometimes bending over in traffic, at all times of the day. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OjP2x9v_TI">Residents</a> have routinely <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11731621/Furious-California-residents-rage-thong-clad-prostitutes-allowed-linger-streets.html">complained</a> about the noise, the fighting, the drug use, and how it’s wildly inappropriate for such behavior to be around children. The residents who have spoken out, typically anonymously, also worry for the women selling themselves, fearing they could be sex trafficking victims. 
Chief Nisleit said the law emboldens those trafficking women, &#8220;specifically younger women,&#8221; and makes it &#8220;much harder for us to rescue those victims. Just because you decriminalize something, doesn’t mean the impact on the victim, those who are being trafficked, or on the community goes away. In fact, sometimes, like this, it increases.”
Wiener said he drafted the legislation to protect <a href="https://sd11.senate.ca.gov/news/20220620-senator-wiener%E2%80%99s-legislation-repeal-discriminatory-loitering-law-targeting-sex-workers#:~:text=The%20Coalition%20to%20Abolish%20Slavery,to%20be%20a%20sex%20worker.">“trans and black and brown women,”</a> whom he claims are harassed by police for their identity. 
“Why would we have a criminal law allowing a police officer to arrest you based exclusively on how you look, not on what you do?&#8221; Wiener <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5r2fAwJUcB4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;That’s wrong, we shouldn&#8217;t have that kind of law on the books. And police have plenty of laws that deal with trafficking and they should be doing more work on addressing trafficking and less time complaining.” 
Anti-sex trafficking advocates and local leaders, including both Democrats and Republicans, are currently working to <a href="https://src.senate.ca.gov/content/california-senate-democrats-say-no-way-effort-repeal-legislation-protects-pimps-hurts-human">repeal SB357</a>, but thus far those efforts have fallen short. The law continues to have strong support from Democrats in the state Senate. In March, Senate Democrats voted against a repeal effort <a href="https://src.senate.ca.gov/sites/src.senate.ca.gov/files/SB%20100%20Roll%20Call.pdf">29 to 8</a>.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> residents fear mental health professionals are one step closer to giving custody of minors 12 and older to the state after lawmakers advanced a bill on Tuesday that aligns with existing laws for children to receive certain services without parental consent.
On Tuesday, lawmakers in the state&#8217;s Senate Judiciary Committee advanced <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB665">Assembly Bill 665</a>, which gives minors over the targeted age group authority to receive mental health services from counselors and therapists who could allegedly sign off on children checking into state-run youth shelters as long they provide evidence of serious physical or mental harm to themselves or others, or if they&#8217;re a victim of incest or child abuse.
Although the bill&#8217;s text does not explicitly contain language that changes the state&#8217;s child welfare system or removal processes, some Californians allege the law — authored by Democrats Assembly Member Wendy Carrillo and State Senator Scott Wiener — indicates &#8220;parental separation and emancipation of minors.&#8221;
&#8220;The authors want to change the law to let a 12-year-old opt out of their home on a whim, invoking parental separation and emancipation of minors without any claim of danger or parental consent,&#8221; Nicole Pearson, an attorney, said in her testimony against the bill, according to <a href="https://freebeacon.com/california/california-assembly-bill-665/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Free Beacon</a>. &#8220;This is child emancipation.&#8221;
Wiener, however, argues the bill &#8220;protects children.&#8221;
&#8220;It makes children safer,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It makes children healthier. It&#8217;s unfortunate that this bill, like so many, has been caught up in this right-wing outrage machine.&#8221;
Carrillo claimed the state would &#8220;never&#8221; pass a law that strips parental discretion or remove access to their children.
&#8220;There&#8217;s been a lot of misinformation and lies about this bill to the point that it has national and international attention as to how we treat mental health services for young people in the United States and California,&#8221; she said.

According to the <a href="https://youthlaw.org/resources/californias-ab-665-equitable-access-mental-health-services#:~:text=AB%20665%20would%20grant%20youth,require%20consent%20from%20a%20guardian." target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Center for Youth Law</a>, minors of the targeted age group can receive healthcare through private health insurance plans and have the authorization to consent to outpatient care on their behalf when considered mature enough to participate. The new bill would give youth over 12 the ability to consent to mental health counseling regardless of insurance type.
&#8220;Youth relying on the state&#8217;s Medi-Cal program — offered to families with lower incomes — cannot access mental health care on their own without approval from a parent or guardian, unless they meet a much higher need level,&#8221; the center&#8217;s website reads. &#8220;This added barrier to support prevents many tweens and teens from getting the care they need and threatens their well-being.&#8221;
Weiner also noted the bill only applies to low-income children in Medi-Cal, the state&#8217;s Medicaid program.
Pearson said in her testimony that if lawmakers wanted to remove the parental consent requirement for minors to receive mental health services through Medi-Cal, they could change California&#8217;s welfare code and keep state-run shelters&#8217; admittance rules the same.
However, the National Center for Youth Law&#8217;s attorney Taylor Chambers said that changing the code would convolute billing for doctors and counselors.
California Democrats have launched a campaign to strip parental authority over their children, specifically in the name of &#8220;gender affirmation.&#8221; Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-state-senator-warns-parents-to-flee-state-after-gender-affirmation-bill-advances" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advanced</a> separate legislation to accuse parents of child abuse if they refuse to affirm their children&#8217;s gender identity.
Last year, Weiner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/california-senate-passes-transgender-refuge-bill-eroding-parental-rights" target="_blank" rel="noopener">authored</a> a bill that passed, making California a haven for children who wish to go through transgender surgeries and parents who support them in the procedures while making it more difficult for those who do not want their child to go through such treatments.

A proposed California bill would allow children ages 12 and above to be vaccinated without parental consent.
California Democratic State Sen. Scott Wiener introduced the bill late Thursday in Sacramento.
“Giving young people the autonomy to receive life-saving vaccines, regardless of their parents’ beliefs or work schedules, is essential for their physical and mental health,” Wiener said, according to an <a href="https://apnews.com/article/coronavirus-pandemic-business-health-scott-wiener-san-francisco-1878f7be2355e82c1885754fc53514c0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a> report.
“It’s unconscionable for teens to be blocked from the vaccine because a parent either refuses or cannot take their child to a vaccination site,&#8221; he added.
Wiener, whose district includes San Francisco and parts of San Mateo County, also announced the new legislation&#8217;s introduction on Twitter Friday.

Wiener also noted that state law already allows 12-17 years olds to &#8220;access various forms of healthcare without parental consent, eg: HPV &amp; hep B vaccines, abortion care, birth control, mental healthcare, domestic violence-related care.&#8221;
&#8220;[Nearly 1 million] 12-17 year olds in CA aren’t vaccinated for COVID. Many want to get vaccinated but parents won’t let them or aren’t making the time to take them. Teens shouldn’t have to rely on parents’ views &amp; availability to protect themselves from a deadly virus,&#8221; Wiener said in another post.
&#8220;SB 866 builds on this existing law to expand vaccine access,&#8221; he added. &#8220;SB 866 allows 12-17 year olds to consent to any vaccine approved or granted emergency use authorization by the FDA &amp; recommended by the CDC. As with anyone else, they’ll have to be clinically eligible for a particular vaccine.&#8221;
Wiener argued that teenagers should not have to &#8220;scheme&#8221; with parents to get a vaccine, referring to a Pennsylvania case.

&#8220;SB 866 is expected to have its first committee hearing by March or April,&#8221; <a href="https://www.politico.com/states/california/whiteboard/2022/01/21/california-bill-would-allow-older-kids-to-be-vaccinated-without-parental-consent-1406369" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Politico</a> reported.
&#8220;Additional legislation is expected from other members of the vaccine caucus. This could include consumer mandates and requirements for workplace safety, as well as measures to eliminate the personal belief exemption at schools for Covid vaccinations,&#8221; the report added.

A <a class="" href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220SB519" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">bill</a> introduced by California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) that decriminalizes possession of psychedelic drugs in the state made progress Tuesday after he removed a potential date-rape drug from the legislation.
&#8220;The bill would allow those 21 and older to possess for personal use and &#8216;social sharing&#8217; psilocybin, the hallucinogenic component of so-called magic mushrooms. It also covers psilocyn, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ibogaine, mescaline excluding peyote, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, often called ecstasy),&#8221; according to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-health-government-and-politics-c3eb439025f5f0b50090c73f22183cd0" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Associated Press</a>.
Wiener amended the bill to remove ketamine from the list of acceptable substances after opponents objected to its potential use as a date-rape drug.
&#8220;It cleared the Assembly Public Safety Committee, 5-3, with proponents touting the benefits to military veterans and others they say can benefit from the use of psychedelics to treat trauma. The measure already passed the state Senate on a 21-16 vote and now heads to the health committee before it can go to the full Assembly,&#8221; per the AP.
“People’s lives are literally transformed because of these substances,” said Wiener. <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-bill-would-decriminalize-psychedelic-drugs">Fox News</a> has reported regarding recent research into the use of “psychedelic drugs to treat depression, drug addiction, PTSD, and a range of other mental health afflictions.”

Several cities have <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/california-bill-would-decriminalize-psychedelic-drugs">decriminalized</a> psychedelic drugs recently, such as Oakland, Santa Cruz, Ann Arbor, Denver, and Washington, D.C. Even if California passed the bill into law, the AP noted, the drugs will remain illegal under federal law.
Wiener has proposed several pieces of controversial legislation in the California State Legislature over the years, such as a <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/to-your-health/wp/2017/10/09/knowingly-infecting-others-with-hiv-is-no-longer-a-felony-in-california-advocates-say-it-targeted-sex-workers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">2017 bill</a> he co-sponsored that made knowingly exposing a partner to HIV no longer a felony.
Wiener was also responsible for a bill signed into law last fall that allows a young adult who has gay sex with a minor to escape registering as a sex offender in some cases, based on a judge’s discretion. As The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-signs-bill-that-could-alter-sex-offender-registration-for-gay-sex-with-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>:
<blockquote>Proponents of the legislation such as Wiener claim the law, which provides a judge more leeway in statutory rape cases involving non-vaginal forms of sex, rectifies California’s historical discrimination against the LGBTQ community. Under SB145, if a young adult has gay sex with a minor 14 or older who is less than 10 years younger, a judge will have the discretion whether to place the individual on the sex offender registry.
As the <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/California-bill-eliminating-sex-offender-list-15529263.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">San Francisco Chronicle explained</a>, “Under current law, a judge can decide whether to place a man who has vaginal intercourse with an underage teenage girl on the sex offender registry based on the facts of the case. But if anal or oral sex, or vaginal penetration with anything other than a penis is involved, the adult must register as a sex offender[.]”

California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced Thursday his plan to roll out legislation that would allow &#8220;safe injection sites&#8221; in San Francisco and Oakland.
Citing the recent surge of drug overdoses in San Francisco, according to <a href="https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2020/10/08/state-sen-scott-wiener-announces-renewed-push-for-safe-injection-sites/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">local CBS affiliate KPIX</a>, Wiener joined San Francisco&#8217;s Democrat Mayor London Breed and San Francisco Health Director Dr. Grant Colfax during a press conference in Boeddeker Park to announce the proposal.

&#8220;Wiener has long been an advocate for the sites, which allow drug users to safely consume in the presence of medical professionals who are equipped with the medication naloxone to prevent overdoses,&#8221; KPIX reported.
Wiener has been trying to get safe injection sites implemented since 2018, though his two previous attempts were vetoed.
Overdose deaths in San Francisco increased by 70% in 2019, according to Colfax, who said, &#8220;All signs point to this trend continuing in 2020.&#8221; The primary culprit in the rise of overdoses is fentanyl, according to the city&#8217;s Department of Public Health.
&#8220;We are in an emergency in San Francisco,&#8221; Colfax added.
Breed referred to her sister who overdosed, saying, “When you have people who you know and love who struggle with addiction, the thing that you want most for them is you want a better life for them, you want them to be able to get help, you want to make sure that that addiction doesn’t take their life. And that’s happened to me.&#8221;
“We can’t control people and their addiction, but what we can do is be there for them. And this is a way for being there for people. This is a way for providing a space that doesn’t judge them, so that when they walk through the doors, they’re not treated like a drug addict. They’re treated like a human being,” Breed said.

Wiener recently made headlines for introducing a bill in the California State Senate, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newsom-signs-bill-that-could-alter-sex-offender-registration-for-gay-sex-with-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">later signed by Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom</a>, that allowed a judge the discretion to prevent someone convicted of gay sex with a minor from registering as a sex offender. He also was behind the 2017 bill that made knowingly exposing a partner to HIV a misdemeanor instead of a felony.
