After a video of him snatching a hat from a child at the U.S. Open went viral and ignited widespread outrage, Polish businessman Piotr Szczerek publicly apologized for his actions.
Szczerek, head of the paving company Drogbruk, shared his regrets on the company’s official Instagram page and stated that all other comments attributed to him and his wife were fake. The exec explained that he didn’t mean to take the hat from the little boy, saying he thought it was meant for him.
The footage captures tennis star Kamil Majchrzak holding out the hat toward the child until Szczerek abruptly intercepted, grabbed the hat, and tucked it into his wife’s tote bag. In the video, he appears to ignore the child’s protestations.

“I would like to unequivocally apologize to the boy who was harmed, his family, as well as all the fans and the player himself,” Szczerek <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DODrR8ZCMsI/?hl=en">wrote on Instagram</a>, via a translation. “I made a serious mistake.”
“In the emotions, in the crowd’s joy after the victory, I was convinced that the tennis player was handing the cap in my direction — for my sons, who had earlier asked for autographs,” the CEO went on. 
“Today, I know that I did something that looked like deliberately taking a souvenir from a child. That was never my intention, but it doesn’t change the fact that I hurt the boy and disappointed the fans. The cap has since been given to the boy, and apologies made to the family. I hope that at least in part I have repaired the harm I caused,” he added. 
“It is a painful but necessary lesson in humility,” Szczerek wrote.
Since the incident, Majchrzak located the boy, who was identified as Brock, and posed for photos with him. “Hello World, Together with Brock we wish you a great day!” the tennis pro wrote in an Instagram caption shared on Saturday.
He showed a photo of himself giving more gifts to Brock in another Story. 
Szczerek has been targeted online since the incident, with angry individuals bombarding his company with negative reviews and publicly criticizing him for his actions.

President Donald Trump told Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook that she had been terminated on Monday, citing allegations of mortgage fraud.
“Pursuant to my authority under Article II of the Constitution of the United States and the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, as amended, you are hereby removed from your position on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, effective immediately,” Trump wrote to Cook in a letter.
“The Federal Reserve Act provides that you may be removed, at my discretion, for cause,” he wrote. “I have determined that there is sufficient cause to remove you from your position.”
Trump cited allegations by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, who accused Cook of claiming two separate properties as her primary address within weeks of purchasing each with financing.
&#8220;President Trump purported to fire me &#8216;for cause&#8217; when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so,&#8221; Cook said in a <a href="https://x.com/amacker/status/1960175247140806676">statement</a> responding to Trump&#8217;s letter. &#8220;I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy as I have been doing since 2022.”
Cook, who has not been charged with a crime, has hired attorney Abbe Lowell as legal counsel. Lowell is a veteran defense attorney with decades of experience representing high-profile political figures, including former President Bill Clinton, former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), and Hunter Biden.

Pulte accused Cook of having “falsified bank documents and property records” to purchase two properties, a house in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a condo in Atlanta, according to CNN. Mortgage documents show that Cook took out mortgages on both properties and claimed both as her primary residence.
Trump said Monday that questions about Cook’s integrity have undermined Americans’ confidence in her ability to serve on the Federal Reserve.
“The Federal Reserve has tremendous responsibility for setting interest rates and regulating reserve and member banks,” Trump wrote. “The American people must be able to have full confidence in the honesty of the members entrusted with setting policy and overseeing the Federal Reserve.”
“In light of your deceitful and potentially criminal conduct in a financial matter, they cannot and I do not have such confidence in your integrity. At a minimum, the conduct at issue exhibits the sort of gross negligence in financial transactions that calls into question your competence and trustworthiness as a financial regulator,” he wrote.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard fired back on Tuesday after former President Barack Obama issued a statement attacking her claims and those of President Donald Trump and CIA Director John Ratcliffe that Obama and his team manipulated intelligence to sabotage Trump’s first term.
“Barack Hussein Obama is the ringleader,” Trump said. “Hillary Clinton was right there with him, and so was Sleepy Joe Biden, and so were the rest of them — [former FBI Director Jim] Comey, [former Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper, the whole group. They tried to rig an election, and then they got caught.”

On January 6, 2017, the new unclassified assessment was released.

“It’s the art of deflection, coming from Obama, as well as his friends, who are still in Congress today&#8230;really all basically saying that exact same statement, which doesn’t actually address the issue that was revealed in great detail in the over 100 documents that we released last week and the documents that we will be releasing later this week,” Gabbard told guest-host Lara Trump on Fox News&#8217;s Will Cain Show.
“The intelligence community had one assessment, that Russia did not have the intent or capability to try to impact the outcome of the U.S. election leading up to  Election Day,” she continued. “The same assessment was made after Donald Trump was elected by the American people as president in 2016 defeating Hillary Clinton. And it wasn’t until after that pulled president’s daily briefing document that you referenced that the Principals Committee was called and the National Security Council, and President Obama then directed his then DNI, James Clapper, to lead the effort to create this new intelligence community assessment.”
“Neither the message from President Obama’s office, neither the statements coming from Democrats in Congress today and their friends in the propaganda media, none of them are addressing this fact: that there was a shift, a 180-degree shift from the intelligence community’s assessment leading up to the election to the one that President Obama directed be produced after Donald Trump won the election that completely contradicted those assessments that had come previously,” she stated.
“You saw John Brennan, James Clapper and James Comey stated with high confidence this January intelligence community assessment that they drafted at the direction of President Obama,” she pointed out. “The fact is that they used already discredited information like the Steele dossier; they knew it was discredited at that time yet they used it as a source for this document that they claimed to have high confidence in. They used intelligence that some of these intelligence community professionals rejected previously because of the lack of credibility and the lack of the ability to vet with any kind of confidence whether or not that information or intelligence was accurate and could be used for an assessment.”
“There’s a long laundry list of facts and intelligence reporting that directly contradicts the statement coming from President Obama’s office and those who are trying to deflect away from what actually happened, which was after Donald Trump was elected, led by President Obama, there was an effort to create in a doc, a document that was created to serve as a foundation for what would be a years-long coup against President Trump, therefore trying to subvert the will of the American people who sent him to the White House in 2016,” she asserted.
“I’m very encouraged by the fact that we have whistleblowers coming forward who are intelligence community professionals who were there when this happened and who were disgusted by it and are heartened at the possibility and the hope that the truth will see the light of day,&#8221; Gabbard added.
“The most important thing is that the American people see accountability, which is why we are referring and have already sent all of the documents that we have currently and any others that we get in the future to the Department of Justice to bring about that accountability, to ensure that the integrity of our democratic republic exists,” she concluded.

Trump said that during his first term, he decided not to pursue criminal charges against his political rival, Clinton, but added that the latest revelations are too big to ignore.
&#8220;I let her off the hook, and I&#8217;m very happy I did, but after what they did to me, and whether it&#8217;s right or wrong, it&#8217;s time to go after people,&#8221; he added.
Gabbard said the information released last week &#8220;clearly shows there was a treasonous conspiracy in 2016 committed by officials at the highest level of our government.&#8221;
&#8220;Their goal was to subvert the will of the American people and enact what was essentially a years-long coup with the objective of trying to usurp the President from fulfilling the mandate bestowed upon him by the American people,&#8221; she added.

A federal housing agency referred leftist New York Attorney General Letitia James to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution over alleged actions to obtain more favorable loans on multiple properties she owned.
Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte said in a letter to the DOJ on Monday that there was evidence that James falsified records over properties she owned in Virginia and Brooklyn, New York, to secure a lower mortgage rate for government-backed loans. Pulte said that James, who aggressively prosecuted Donald Trump during his last presidential campaign, should be investigated for wire fraud, mail fraud, bank fraud, and making false statements to a financial institution.
&#8220;Based on media reports, Ms. Letitia James has, in multiple instances, falsified bank documents and property records to acquire government backed assistance and loans and more favorable loan terms,&#8221; Pulte wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi. &#8220;This has potentially included 1) falsifying residence status for a Norfolk, Virginia-based home in order to secure a lower mortgage rate and 2) misrepresenting property descriptions to meet stringent requirements for government backed loans and government assistance.&#8221;
In August 2023, James reportedly listed her primary residence as the Norfolk property on federal mortgage documents even though she was &#8220;primarily residing in the state of New York&#8221; at the time and &#8220;required by law to have her primary residence in the state of New York&#8221; because of her statewide position, according to Pulte. 
&#8220;Primary residence mortgages receive more favorable loan terms, including lower interest rates, than secondary residence mortgages. Lenders view secondary residence mortgages as significantly riskier, as a borrower is more likely to continue paying off a primary residence mortgage during any financial hardship,&#8221; Pulte wrote. 
In the second example, Pulte said that James has listed a Brooklyn property she has owned since 2001 as having only four units, even though it has five.
&#8220;A building that exceeds four units must be treated as a multifamily property, and typically has larger down payment requirements and higher interest rates terms—with interest rates being between 0.75-1 percent higher—due to lenders viewing multifamily loans as significantly riskier,&#8221; he wrote. 
Pulte noted that he attached other documentation from 1983 that he said showed James and her father had signed a mortgage document as husband and wife, which he said &#8220;raised concerns about the validity&#8221; of her mortgage applications.
In response to the allegations, James accused the Trump administration of weaponizing the government.
“Attorney General James is focused every single day on protecting New Yorkers, especially as this Administration weaponizes the federal government against the rule of law and the Constitution. She will not be intimidated by bullies — no matter who they are,” she <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/15/us-news/trump-administration-refers-ny-ag-tish-james-for-prosecution/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
James <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/16/us-news/letitia-james-dodges-questions-about-mortgage-fraud-scandal-outside-nyc-home-pretends-to-be-on-the-phone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dodged</a> reporters on Wednesday morning as she left her house and held a phone up to her ear, the New York Post reported. She didn&#8217;t take any questions.
Last year, James <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-appeals-454-million-civil-fraud-judgment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> a $454 million civil fraud judgment against Trump and got him banned from doing business in New York for three years for claims that he made misleading financial statements on property evaluations to banks to secure better terms on loans. During the trial, Trump&#8217;s defense stood by the evaluations and said that all the loans were repaid.
Republicans praised the Trump administration&#8217;s criminal prosecution referral, pointing to James&#8217; statements during her prosecution of Trump that &#8220;no one is above the law.&#8221;
&#8220;Letitia James engaged in some of the most shameful, partisan lawfare against President Trump—based on far less evidence than this,&#8221; Senator Tom Cotton posted on X. &#8220;No one is above the law.&#8221;

Since The Atlantic&#8217;s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/03/trump-administration-accidentally-texted-me-its-war-plans/682151/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">broke</a> the news last week that he was added to the Signal chat and revealed its contents, some have called for Waltz to resign or be fired. Waltz <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg12ewv7xyo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News that he took &#8220;full responsibility&#8221; for the breach in which Goldberg was added to the chat because he built the Signal group. The controversy that stemmed from the breach, which has become known as &#8220;Signalgate,&#8221; has embroiled other top members of the Trump administration who took part in the thread. One of those officials, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has also faced calls to resign over the information he shared in the conversation. Some lawmakers have <a href="https://www.armed-services.senate.gov/press-releases/chairman-wicker-ranking-member-reed-request-inspector-general-probe-into-signal-incident" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushed</a> for an investigation by the Pentagon&#8217;s inspector general. Hegseth has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hegseth-fires-back-at-the-media-over-signalgate-reporting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> his &#8220;job&#8221; was to &#8220;provide updates in real-time, general updates in real-time, keep everybody informed.&#8221;
In a post on X last week, Leavitt <a href="https://x.com/PressSec/status/1904512527699968437" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that no classified material was included in the thread and warned that Goldberg &#8220;is well-known for his sensationalist spin.&#8221; She also rejected Goldberg&#8217;s characterization that &#8220;war plans&#8221; were discussed, affirmed that the National Security Council was &#8220;looking into how Goldberg&#8217;s number was inadvertently added to the thread,&#8221; and noted that the White House Counsel&#8217;s Office had provided guidance on communications across different platforms.
On Monday, Leavitt said there have been &#8220;steps made to ensure that something like that can obviously never happen again and we&#8217;re moving forward and the president and Mike Waltz and his entire National Security team have been working together very well if you look at how much safer the United States of America is because of the leadership of this team.&#8221;

Top intelligence officials from the Trump administration strongly pushed back Tuesday on claims that classified material was shared in a Signal chat group about America&#8217;s attack plans on Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen.
The comments were made during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing less than 24 hours after The Atlantic&#8217;s Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg published a story about the Signal chat group after he was accidentally included in the group and was able to monitor communications between officials.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said the encrypted app was loaded onto his computer by technicians at the agency after he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
&#8220;One of the things that I was briefed on very early was by the CIA records management folks about the use of Signal as a permissible work use — it is,&#8221; Ratcliffe told Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA). &#8220;That is a practice that preceded the current administration to the Biden administration.&#8221;
He said that his communications in the group were &#8220;entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information.&#8221;
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard subsequently told Warner that &#8220;there was no classified material that was shared in that Signal chat.&#8221;
The questions came after other top Trump officials — including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and others — were discussing timing and messaging for U.S. military strikes in Yemen against the terrorist group. The White House confirmed the authenticity of the group chat, saying in a statement that it is “reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.”

Goldberg published a story on Monday detailing how he was added to a group chat on the unclassified messaging app Signal where Trump officials — including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, among others — were talking through timing and strategy for U.S. military strikes in Yemen against the terrorist group. The White House confirmed the authenticity of the group chat, saying in a statement that it is &#8220;reviewing how an inadvertent number was added to the chain.&#8221;

Goldberg&#8217;s number was reportedly added by Waltz or a member of his staff in what was possibly a mixup between Goldberg and Trump trade negotiator, Jamieson Greer, who shares the same initials as The Atlantic editor-in-chief. Trump <a href="https://x.com/GarrettHaake/status/1904517487925825844" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> NBC News that he remains confident in Waltz&#8217;s ability, adding that the National Security Advisor &#8220;learned a lesson&#8221; and is &#8220;a good man.&#8221; Trump added that he&#8217;s not concerned about the story, saying it is &#8220;the only glitch in two months, and it turned out not to be a serious one.&#8221;
In some of the messages published by The Atlantic, Vance expressed concerns about conducting the strikes and said that he was &#8220;not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now.&#8221;
“There’s a further risk that we see a moderate to severe spike in oil prices,” Vance wrote. “I am willing to support the consensus of the team and keep these concerns to myself. But there is a strong argument for delaying this a month, doing the messaging work on why this matters, seeing where the economy is, etc.”
In a statement on Monday, the administration maintained that the chat showed &#8220;the deep and thoughtful policy coordination between senior officials,&#8221; adding, &#8220;The ongoing success of the Houthi operation demonstrates that there were no threats to troops or national security.”
Hegseth <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pete-hegseth-fires-back-at-atlantic-writer-deceitful-and-highly-discredited" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to questions about The Atlantic story on Monday, calling Goldberg &#8220;a deceitful and highly discredited, so-called ‘journalist&#8217; who’s made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again, to include the, I don’t know, the hoaxes of ‘Russia, Russia, Russia,’ or the ‘Fine People On Both Sides’ hoax, or the ‘Suckers And Losers’ hoax.'&#8221;
“Nobody was texting war plans, and that’s all I have to say about that,” Hegseth added.
In an <a href="https://x.com/kaitlancollins/status/1904355800845627724" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with CNN&#8217;s Kaitlan Collins Monday night, Goldberg accused Hegseth of lying.
&#8220;He was texting war plans. He was texting attack plans,&#8221; Goldberg said. He added that sensitive military information was discussed in the group chat and that he did not publish it in his report.
&#8220;When targets were going to be targeted, how they were going to be targeted, who was at the targets, when the next sequence of attacks were happening. I didn’t publish this, and I continue not to publish it because it felt like it was too confidential. &#8230; And I worry, honestly, that sharing that kind of information in public would endanger American military personnel.”

In mid-February, Iowa GOP Sen. Charles Grassley —who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee investigating Credit Suisse’s historical Nazi connections — sent Milei a letter requesting him to unseal the records. “I continue to fight to shine light on the wrongs and injustices from this darkest chapter in history,” Grassley wrote. “This includes decades-long efforts to track the Nazis’ confiscation of all kinds of Jewish valuables and cash.”
Speaking of former U.S. Inspector General Neil Barofsky, who was appointed as the Independent Ombudsperson to comprehensively investigate Credit Suisse&#8217;s archives, he stated, “Despite the banks&#8217; best efforts at obstruction, Mr. Barofsky has uncovered a ‘significant connection’ between Credit Suisse and many individuals who helped Nazis flee Europe after World War II via ‘ratlines,’ which are monetary and logistic pathways used by Credit Suisse and other institutions to help Nazis escape justice and relocate to Argentina, among other countries.”
Barofsky <a href="https://www.wsj.com/finance/banking/nazi-ties-to-credit-suisse-ran-deeper-than-was-known-hidden-files-reveal-285ab620">had been hired</a> by Credit Suisse in 2021 after the Simon Wiesenthal Center found additional information regarding the possible Nazi connection, but he was fired when the bank felt he had gone too far. He was reinstated in 2023 after Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) rescued Credit Suisse. In 2024, Barofsky told the U.S. Senate Banking Committee that UBS had fully opened its archives. Two separate panels said that Swiss bankers routinely ignored Nazis stealing Jewish assets and also later blocked families’ efforts to reclaim their money.
“The goal and motivation behind this work is to bring about justice and transparency,” Grassley continued. “Regardless of how much time passes, the truth is worth pursuing and the stories of this dark time period are worth telling and making part of the historical record for future generations. &#8230; I&#8217;m copying President Trump on this letter because my investigative work is being done out of profound respect for the brave and courageous men and women of the United States Armed Forces who fought against Hitler and the Nazis, and freed the courageous Jewish people from those evils &#8211; a sentiment that he would most assuredly agree with.”

New Jersey Democratic Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/phil-murphy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Phil Murphy</a> is expected to select his former chief of staff to replace outgoing Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bob-menendez" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bob Menendez,</a> who announced he would be stepping down after his conviction on corruption charges. 
Murphy will pick George Helmy, who worked as the governor’s chief of staff for four years, to replace Menendez, <a href="https://www.northjersey.com/story/news/new-jersey/2024/08/15/george-helmy-senate-bob-menendez-replacement/74805873007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to multiple reports. Helmy left Murphy’s team in October 2023 and became the chief external affairs and policy officer for RWJBarnabas Health.  
Helmy received high praise from Murphy, who <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/new-jersey-governor-set-to-tap-former-aide-for-bob-menendezs-senate-seat-5fdc70b2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> picked him over Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), who won the Democratic primary for Menendez’s seat and is running to replace him in November&#8217;s election. Helmy would finish up Menendez’s term which ends in January.

Menendez <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/convicted-senator-bob-menendez-will-resign-effective-august-20-reports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that he would leave the Senate by August 20 after he was convicted on 16 counts, including bribery, extortion, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, and acting as a foreign agent. He will be sentenced on October 29 and faces up to 222 years in prison. 
Prosecutors said that Menendez used his clout to help a friend secure a multi-million dollar investment deal from the Qatari government, in part by taking actions as a senator that benefited Qatar. They also said that Menendez was bribed with hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold bars, and a Mercedes-Benz. 
The New Jersey Democrat was the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee when federal investigators say the bribery scheme took place. 
Menendez believes that he will be able to reverse his convictions on appeal. 
“Obviously, I’m deeply, deeply disappointed by the jury’s decision. I have every faith that the law and the facts did not sustain that decision and that we will be successful upon appeal,” he said after the conviction.

The Minnesota National Guard has disputed Gov. Tim Walz’s claims about his military service, saying he did not retire as a command sergeant major as he has said.
In <a href="https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/past-criticisms-vp-nominee-tim-walzs-retirement-military-resurface" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement</a> to Just The News, a spokesperson for the Minnesota National Guard confirmed that Walz retired as a master sergeant “in 2005 for benefit purposes because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.”
Walz claimed he retired from the National Guard as a command sergeant major; the claim even appears in his official biography on the Minnesota government’s website (<a href="https://archive.is/OEU2D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">archived here</a>). Yet other veterans have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/walz-embellished-and-selectively-omitted-facts-about-his-military-career-retired-national-guardsmen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called out</a> Walz’s story, saying he “embellished and selectively omitted facts” about his military career. Walz retired shortly after his unit was told it could be deployed to Iraq, but he didn’t adhere to his agreements as part of joining the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. One of the stipulations for joining was that he served a specific time after his conditional promotion to command sergeant major, which Walz failed to do, thus resulting in him reverting to his lower rank of master sergeant.
Walz’s lower rank was valid from the moment he retired, meaning he retired as a master sergeant and not as a command sergeant major as he has claimed.
Army Lt. Col. Kristen Augé, Minnesota National Guard’s State Public Affairs Officer, gave Just The News a corrected biography for Walz’s military service.

&#8220;Governor Tim Walz served from April 8, 1981, to May 16, 2005. Governor Walz served in the Minnesota National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 125th Field Artillery after transferring from the Nebraska National Guard in 1996. While serving in Minnesota, his military occupational specialties were 13B &#8211; a cannon crewmember who operates and maintains cannons and 13Z -field artillery senior sergeant. In Nebraska, he served as a 11Z &#8211; infantry senior sergeant, and a 71L &#8211; administrative specialist. He held multiple positions within field artillery such as firing battery chief, operations sergeant, first sergeant, and culminated his career serving as the command sergeant major for the battalion,&#8221; she told the outlet.
In <a href="https://www.facebook.com/thomas.behrends.927/posts/2192944367614526" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an open letter</a> posted to Facebook in 2018, retired Command Sergeants Major Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr wrote that Walz retired just a few months after receiving a warning order that his battalion would be deployed to Iraq – even though he told military personnel he would be going on the mission.
“On May 16th, 2005, [Walz] quit, betraying his country, leaving the 1-125th Field Artillery Battalion and its Soldiers hanging; without its senior Non-Commissioned Officer, as the battalion prepared for war,” Behrends and Herr wrote.
Walz’s sudden retirement complicated his selection to the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Behrends and Herr wrote. Once someone accepts enrollment, they agree to three stipulations: to serve two years after graduation from the academy or promotion, that failing the course could result in being kicked out of the military, and that they will be reduced to master sergeant if they don’t complete the course.
Walz wasn’t promoted to command sergeant major until September 17, 2004. A month earlier, he was photographed holding a protest sign outside a rally for President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign, though it doesn’t seem as though the military noticed or disciplined him.
Less than a year after his promotion, Walz retired, meaning his promotion was nullified since he broke the agreement he signed when entering the academy.
On September 10, 2005, Walz was reduced to master sergeant. As Behrends and Herr wrote, “It took a while for the system to catch up to him as it was uncharted territory, literally no one quits in the position he was in, or drops out of the academy.”

Agence France-Presse (AFP), one of the biggest news agencies in the world, announced that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/royal-family">Kensington Palace</a> is no longer a “trusted source” for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/photos">photos</a> following the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kate-middleton">Kate Middleton</a> photo scandal that’s been dominating headlines this week.
The organization’s global news director Phil Chetwynd told BBC Radio 4’s Media Show that AFP would closely scrutinize any future submission from the Prince and Princess of Wales, per <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/03/kate-middleton-picture-afp-kensington-palace-not-trusted-1235858254/">Deadline</a>. 
When “Media Show” host Ros Atkins asked specifically if Kensington Palace was a trusted source, Chetwynd said, “No, absolutely not. Like with anything, when you’re let down by a source the bar is raised … We sent out notes to all our teams at the moment to be absolutely super more vigilant about the content coming across our desk — even from what we would call trusted sources.”
The news director went on to explain how rare it is to retract a photo, saying a retraction is usually issued for images sent from Iran or North Korea. The Mother’s Day photo from Middleton was so extensively edited that AP and Reuters issued “kill” notices over the weekend.
“One thing that’s really important is you cannot be distorting reality for the public,&#8221; Chetwynd said. &#8220;There’s a question of trust. And the big issue here is one of trust, and the lack of trust and the falling trust of the general public in institutions generally and in the media. And so it’s extremely important that a photo does represent broadly the reality that it’s seen in.”
