In a bombshell interview with Hoda Kotb Thursday on the <a href="https://www.today.com/news/savannah-guthrie-nancy-guthrie-moment-mom-missing-rcna265248">Today Show</a>, Savannah Guthrie took us through the nightmare she&#8217;s been living for the last 54 days since her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was kidnapped from her bed in the middle of the night.
Savannah said her mother was abducted in her pajamas, with no shoes, leaving behind everything. After Savannah&#8217;s sister called 911 on February 1, the Today Show host said it didn&#8217;t take long for the siblings to know something was very wrong.
&#8220;My brother, you know, he spent his career in the military and worked in intelligence and is a fighter pilot and is brilliant,&#8221; Savannah said. &#8220;He saw very clearly right away what this was. Even on the phone when I called him, he knew. And he said I think she&#8217;s been kidnapped for ransom.&#8221;
It&#8217;s a theory the family has held on to throughout the ongoing investigation. Ransom notes flooded news outlets and other avenues following Nancy&#8217;s mysterious disappearance. Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Cameron, addressed two notes that specifically demanded payment in Bitcoin.
&#8220;I believe the two notes that we responded to, I tend to believe those are real,&#8221; Savannah said.
Savannah admits she knows it is a possibility because of her public prominence. She could be the reason her mother was targeted to make a quick buck, but it&#8217;s a thought she can barely say out loud. The family remains uncertain of a motive, seven weeks in.
&#8220;It&#8217;s too much to bear to think I brought this to her bedside, that it&#8217;s because of me,&#8221; Savannah told her former co-anchor. &#8220;If it is me &#8230; I&#8217;m so sorry.&#8221;
The family was the center of scrutiny early on in the investigation, with rumors swirling that the kidnapping could have been an inside job. Savannah finally addressed those rumors, describing how it affected her already grieving family.
&#8220;It piles pain upon pain. There are no words,&#8221; Savannah said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t understand, and I&#8217;ll never understand. No one took better care of my mom than my sister and brother-in-law. No one protected my mom more than my brother. We love her. She is our shining light, our matriarch, she&#8217;s all we have.&#8221;
The rumors started to quiet down after the FBI, with the help of Google, released <a href="https://youtube.com/shorts/phuBCMSiXuo?si=mquv4c06TNPkqhil">images</a> of an armed, masked man with a backpack on Nancy&#8217;s front steps. The images are chilling, but Savannah said she&#8217;s thankful the public can see who was at her mom&#8217;s door so the focus can be on finding out who it is.

&#8220;I mean, it&#8217;s just absolutely terrifying, it&#8217;s totally terrifying,&#8221; Savannah said of the images. &#8220;And I can&#8217;t imagine that&#8217;s who she saw standing over her bed. I can&#8217;t. That&#8217;s too much.&#8221;
The agony and desperation for answers were painted all over the news anchor&#8217;s face. While Savannah acknowledged the tireless work investigators are doing, she is again asking for answers.
&#8220;We cannot be at peace without knowing, and someone can do the right thing. It is never too late to do the right thing, and our hearts are focused on that.&#8221;

In the hours following Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping, ransom notes were sent to multiple news outlets demanding $6 million in Bitcoin by 5 p.m. ET on Monday.
Guthrie, 84, the mother of “Today Show” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was taken from her home nine days ago. Since her disappearance, news outlets have received messages detailing cryptocurrency payment instructions.
Criminals are increasingly turning to Bitcoin and other digital assets in ransom and extortion cases for several reasons.
Personal information is not required to access a private cryptocurrency wallet; this is one reason criminals often prefer self-custody wallets for their Bitcoin, requiring only a digital wallet and a pseudonym. Once funds are transferred to the digital wallet, the transaction cannot be reversed, unlike credit card payments or wire transfers, which can sometimes be disputed or clawed back. There is also no central authority that can freeze a Bitcoin wallet or halt a transaction.
Chainalysis&#8217;s 2024 Crypto report <a href="https://www.chainalysis.com/blog/2026-crypto-crime-report-introduction/">stated</a>, &#8220;Human trafficking operations have increasingly leveraged cryptocurrency, while there has also been a particularly disturbing rise in physical coercion attacks, in which criminals use violence to force victims to transfer assets, often timing these assaults to coincide with cryptocurrency price peaks.&#8221; Chainalysis estimated that tens of billions of dollars in cryptocurrency were linked to illicit activity in 2024.
However, Bitcoin does not provide total anonymity; it operates on a public, immutable ledger, meaning every transaction is permanently recorded and visible.
The Daily Wire spoke to Lionsgate Networks CEO Bezalel Eithan Raviv, who leads a firm that specializes in crypto security and asset recovery.
“A lot of people believe there’s no way to trace or recover crypto. This is a myth,” Raviv said.
He told The Daily Wire that using only the Bitcoin address provided in the ransom messages, the funds could indeed be tracked. “We would send a single dollar and we will trace the location of where it hits and lands. We would give that intel to law enforcement without sending $6 million in crypto. You can probe that wallet with a very small transaction.”

Tracing typically identifies wallet relationships and exchange touchpoints, not precise locations.
Raviv warned that such cases are likely to increase, as he believes criminals are often more sophisticated than law enforcement.
“Unfortunately, what we have experienced with this very unfortunate story will only scale,” he said. “Cybercriminals have the leverage because they do understand the tactics and the maneuvers that law enforcement will probably take years to catch up with.”
Still, Raviv emphasized that blockchain transparency remains a powerful investigative tool. “Blockchain is a language,” Raviv said. “And if you can speak it, you can do a lot with it.”
The second deadline for Nancy Guthrie has passed. The ransom reportedly increased from $4 million to $6 million on Monday.
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie posted a video on Instagram calling on the public to pray for her mother&#8217;s safe return and contact law enforcement &#8220;if there is anything at all that seems strange.&#8221;
&#8220;We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,&#8221; she added.
Tuesday marks day ten of the search for Nancy Guthrie.

In a gut-wrenching video posted by Savannah Guthrie, the &#8220;Today Show&#8221; host said her family received a message and they &#8220;will pay&#8221; ransom money to have their 84-year-old mother returned.
&#8220;We received your message and we understand,&#8221; Savannah Guthrie said in a video posted Saturday night. &#8220;We beg you now to return our mother to us, so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.&#8221;
&#8220;This is very valuable to us,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And we will pay.&#8221;

President Donald Trump on Friday night told the press that the feds would likely soon be able to provide “definitive” answers or a “solution” concerning the capture of Nancy.
“I’ll give you a little statement,” Trump said. “I think we’re doing very well, very well, meaning, we have some clues I think that are very strong, and I think we could have some answers coming up fairly soon.”
“I’m not talking about a search, I’m talking about a solution,” the president continued. “We have some things I think that will maybe come out reasonably soon from [Department of Justice] or FBI, or whoever that could be — that could be definitive.”
Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116015545880326010" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on February 4 that he spoke to Savannah Guthrie and let her know that he was “directing ALL Federal Law Enforcement to be at the family’s, and Local Law Enforcement’s, complete disposal, IMMEDIATELY.”

On Feb. 5, police <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nancy-guthries-blood-found-on-front-porch-investigators-say">confirmed</a> during a press conference that blood found on the front porch of Nancy Guthrie&#8217;s home was indeed hers.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VIbeKsZF6E">updated</a> the public on the investigation at a recent press conference. While law enforcement has neither identified a suspect nor person of interest, Nanos said that more samples of DNA in addition to the blood on the porch had been sent in for analysis.
The sheriff also said that his office, with help from other law enforcement, including the FBI, have been investigating dozens of tips in the search for Guthrie.
“Right now, we still believe Nancy is still out there,” said Nanos.
Law enforcement on Thursday released an estimated timetable of Guthrie’s disappearance and revealed that a home camera, one that attached to Guthrie&#8217;s front doorbell, was disconnected and removed. Investigators have still not located the missing camera.
Multiple ransom notes with deadlines have been sent following Guthrie&#8217;s disappearance, demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
On Friday, Guthrie&#8217;s vehicle was towed from her home, according to <a href="https://www.kvoa.com/news/nancy-guthrie/investigators-remove-car-from-nancy-guthries-tucson-home/article_0bdb833a-5f1d-47e1-b22b-837087298b92.html">NBC News</a>. Authorities have not released information detailing why the car was towed.

Guthrie began by pointing directly to the closing arguments, noting that Depp&#8217;s attorneys had referred to Heard&#8217;s often emotionally-charged courtroom testimony as &#8220;the performance of a lifetime.&#8221;
&#8220;In the closing arguments, the Depp lawyer said — called your testimony &#8216;the performance of a lifetime&#8217; and said you were acting. What do you say to that?&#8221; she asked.
&#8220;Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers?&#8221; Heard quipped. &#8220;I’m the performer? &#8220;You say you were responding, but there is evidence. There are tapes in which you acknowledge hitting. There are tapes which you say, &#8216;I started the fight,'&#8221; Guthrie pressed.
Heard pushed back, claiming that the tapes had been edited and they did not clearly show what was happening in real time. She went on to argue that the tapes were really evidence that she was negotiating with her &#8220;abuser.&#8221;
&#8220;I know much has been made of these audio tapes. They were first leaked online after being edited,&#8221; she said. &#8220;What you would hear in those clips are not evidence of what was happening. It was evidence of a negotiation of how to talk about that with your abuser.&#8221;
Depp, who <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/breaking-johnny-depp-wins-in-defamation-case-against-amber-heard/">won his defamation case</a> against Heard, has not given public interviews regarding the outcome of the trial.

&#8220;I am looking at a transcript that says he says you start physical fights and you say, &#8216;I did start a physical fight, I can’t promise you I won’t get physical again,'&#8221; Guthrie <a href="https://www.today.com/news/news/amber-heard-nbc-news-exclusive-part-one-rcna33338">began</a>. &#8220;I mean, this is in black and white. I understand context. But you are testifying and telling me today I never started a physical fight. And here you are on tape saying you did.&#8221;
Heard argued that her admission was a function of being the victim of abuse, claiming that she had said the things heard on audio recordings while she was in fear for her safety.
&#8220;When your life is at risk, not only will you take the blame for things that you shouldn’t take the blame for, but when you are in an abusive dynamic, psychologically, emotionally, and physically, you don’t have the resources that, say, you or I do — with the luxury of saying hey, this is black and white. Because it is anything but when you are living in it,&#8221; Heard continued.
&#8220;But there are other times,&#8221; Guthrie pushed back. &#8220;There is another tape where you are taunting him and saying, &#8216;Oh tell the world, Johnny Depp, I, a man, am the victim of domestic violence &#8230;'&#8221;
Heard appeared to claim that some of the quotes were out of context, arguing that they were just snippets of hours-long discussions and were not fully representative of those conversations.
&#8220;Could your side have just put the whole three hours in then?&#8221; Guthrie asked.
&#8220;I’m not a lawyer,&#8221; Heard replied, saying again that when she had been under &#8220;extreme amounts of emotional, psychologically and physical distress&#8221; when those recordings were made.
&#8220;He said he never hit you. Is that a lie?&#8221; Guthrie asked point-blank.
&#8220;Yes it is,&#8221; Heard said.
&#8220;What about the witnesses who said they have seen you instigate physical violence?&#8221; Guthrie pressed again.
&#8220;I’ve seen first hand how people will file rank and support a person they depend on,&#8221; Heard replied, appearing to suggest that witnesses had lied for Depp.
Guthrie responded, &#8220;Did they all come in and lie in court?&#8221;
&#8220;I’m not here to call any witnesses any names,&#8221; Heard said then, going on to concede that she had said and done some things that she regretted while she was involved with Depp.
&#8220;We were awful to each other. You know, I made a lot of — lot of mistakes. A lot of mistakes. But I’ve always told the truth,&#8221; she claimed.

Bill and Melinda Gates shocked fans when they announced in May 2021 that their 27 year marriage was ending. Later reports alleged that Gates had an affair with a Microsoft employee and the billionaire Microsoft co-founder just admitted that he caused his wife pain during an interview with “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
“Were you unfaithful in your marriage? Was that one of the reasons there was the divorce?” Guthrie asked Bill during their conversation, which was mostly to promote the entrepreneur&#8217;s new book, “How to Prevent the Next Pandemic.”
“I certainly made mistakes, and I take responsibility,” the 66-year-old replied, as Page Six <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/05/03/bill-gates-grilled-over-cheating-rumors-after-melinda-divorce/">reported</a>.
&#8220;I don’t think delving into the particulars at this point is constructive, but yes, I caused pain, and I feel terrible about that,” he continued.
Just after the Gates separated last year, Bill admitted to having “an affair almost 20 years ago” with a fellow Microsoft employee.
Melinda demurred when she was asked if her ex-husband was a serial cheater. “Those are questions Bill needs to answer,” the 66-year-old mom of three replied when asked about that on CBS Sunday Morning.
The “Moment of Lift” author delved into how she felt about all of it. “I think it’s really important to say, look, I had a lot of tears for many days,” she said, per <a href="https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/melinda-gates-breaks-silence-on-bill-gates-affair-after-divorce/">Us Weekly</a>. 
“I mean, [I had] days where I’m literally laying on the floor and the carpet, you know, this close to me, thinking, ‘How can this be? How can I get up? How am I gonna move forward?’ And days I certainly was angry. That’s part of the grieving process. You’re grieving a loss of something you thought you had and thought you had for your lifetime. I mean, this is painful stuff.”
“At the end of the day, though, I started on this journey of healing, and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side. And I do feel like I’m turning a page in the chapter now,” Melinda continued. “I mean, it’s 2022, and I’m actually really excited about what’s to come and life ahead for me.”
The couple wed in 1994 and welcomed three children together through the course of their marriage. They announced their separation in May via a Twitter statement. 
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” she wrote. “Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”

Vice President Kamala Harris made it clear Wednesday that President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration does not have any plans to change the strategy in dealing with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Harris spoke with NBC&#8217;s Savannah Guthrie the morning after Biden delivered his first formal State of the Union address, and Guthrie pressed her on whether or not the administration needed to change tactics since — despite <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/quit-pussy-footing-around-tom-cotton-blasts-biden-administrations-weak-sanctions-on-ruthless-dictator-putin/">heavy sanctions</a> from the United States and other western nations and NATO allies — Putin continues to wage a <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/un-votes-to-condemn-russias-invasion-of-ukraine-china-abstains-from-vote-russian-allies-vote-no/">full-scale assault</a> on the neighboring nation of Ukraine.
&#8220;So what else do we have to throw at this when Putin so far is undeterred?&#8221; Guthrie asked.
&#8220;Well, we are going to continue to do what we&#8217;ve done,&#8221; Harris replied. &#8220;For example, in the sanctions, it&#8217;s been sanctions against their financial institutions, against their oligarchs, where we are targeting their mansions and their jets. What we’re going to continue to do is stand firm with our allies in terms of reassessing what we are doing with sanctions.&#8221;

Guthrie continued to press Harris on the possibility that the United States might implement sanctions on Russia&#8217;s energy sector — or stop buying oil and gas from Russia altogether — in an effort to cut off any income from selling such products and further isolate the nation from the west.
Guthrie noted that the best way to hit Putin &#8220;where it hurts&#8221; was to target the oil and gas sector, adding, &#8220;Some senators agree, Republican and Democrat — Senator Joe Manchin mentioned for example that the U.S. is still currently buying approximately 600,000 barrels of crude and other petroleum products every single day. Is that on the table? Is that something that the administration would continue — would consider in terms of further sanctions, cutting off the oil and gas part of the economy for Russia?&#8221;

Vice President Kamala Harris got testy with NBC&#8217;s Savannah Guthrie during a Thursday morning interview on &#8220;The Today Show,&#8221; snapping at the host when she addressed President Joe Biden&#8217;s implication that the 2022 midterm elections might not be &#8220;legitimate.&#8221;

&#8220;The president has been consistent on this issue and the issue at hand, the issue — I was there last night in the chamber of the Senate and the issue is that there are two bills, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and the Freedom to Vote Act, that have been the solution that has been offered to address the fact that around our country states have put in place laws that are purposely making it more difficult for the American people to vote. Laws which will be felt by at least 55 million Americans regardless of their party affiliation, their race, their gender or geographic location —&#8221;
&#8220;Those bills were — the bills were debated and they didn’t pass —&#8221; Guthrie pressed, interrupting.
&#8220;If I may finish —&#8221; Harris shot back.
&#8220;But the specific question, if you don’t mind, does he think now that these bills haven’t been passed that the ’22 midterms won’t be legitimate or fair or free?&#8221; Guthrie continued to push for a direct answer, but instead Harris continued in her attempt to sell the bills.
&#8220;Let’s not conflate issues. What we are looking at and the topic of so much debate last night was that we as America cannot afford to allow this blatant erosion of our democracy, and in particular, the right of all Americans who are eligible to vote to have access to the ballot unfettered. That is the topic of the conversation. Let’s not be distracted by the political gamesmanship when what is truly at stake, issues like whether Americans with disability have the opportunity to vote by mail, whether a single parent has the opportunity with three kids in the backseat to vote by dropping off their ballot in a drop box instead of having to stand in line with those three kids for hours. These are the issues that are at stake —&#8221; Harris said.
Harris then pivoted to suggest that the two election overhaul bills were necessary if the United States is to continue to be an example to the rest of the world with regard to maintaining a functioning democracy.
&#8220;I met with prime ministers and presidents from around the globe, both partners and allies of ours, they are asking what is going on with voting rights in America because they look to us as a role model of what it means to be a democracy, and they are monitoring to wonder and question whether there is an erosion of our democracy and, therefore, an erosion of one of the best role models of what a democracy does and can do,&#8221; Harris claimed.

President Trump said at a Wisconsin rally, “She deleted her entire account. I wonder why? I can&#8217;t imagine.&#8221;
C-SPAN&#8217;s Steve Scully, the original moderator for the second presidential debate, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-blasts-steve-scully-for-lying-about-hack-the-debate-was-rigged">put on administrative leave</a> after he lied about a tweet he had sent. Scully released a statement admitting that he lied about being hacked on Twitter after he had sent a message seeking advice from Anthony Scaramucci as to whether Scully should respond to the president.

Trump said of Welker, “&#8217;I&#8217;ve known her for a long time, she&#8217;s extraordinarily unfair but that&#8217;s all right.” Trump turned to NBC&#8217;s Savannah Guthrie, who moderated Thursday night&#8217;s town hall with him, remarking, “We did very well the other night with a person that I knew was even more unfair, Savannah.”
He joked, “&#8217;In fact nobody&#8217;s seen Savannah for two days, what happened to Savannah?”
“They said, ‘We’d like to give Savannah Guthrie,” Trump continued. “I said, ‘That’s all right. What difference does it make?’ They ask you a question; you give them an answer. Right? It doesn’t matter. But she was sort of jumping out of her seat, she was like flying. She was like, “I told you, I told you.’ I said, ‘I don’t care what you told me. What does that mean?”
“Then you watch Sleepy Joe get interviewed by George Stephanopoulos, nice guy, but he’s a tough guy, and he’s tough, I interviewed with him two weeks ago, he was tough, he’s giving, like, these lobs, like slow motion lobs,” Trump stated. “No, it’s unfair, but you know what? It’s so unfair, and — we’re president, and they’re not.”

President Trump masterfully handled Guthrie’s attacks and interacted warmly and effectively with the voters in the room.&#8221;
Federalist co-founder Sean Davis wrote: &#8220;If Guthrie had been half as civilized and professional as the questioners—for example, asking a question and then politely listening to the answer without having a temper tantrum—that would’ve been a really illuminating debate. Instead, she went Full Clown and Trump stomped her.&#8221;
The Trump campaign also blasted George Stephanopoulos, noting, &#8220;Over on ABC it was a completely different scene, as once again Biden was kept comfortable and away from any questions that might challenge him. Americans can see that President Trump is leading the country, has built the economy to the best in the world once and is doing it again, and quite clearly has accomplished more in 47 months than Biden has in 47 years as a failed Washington politician.”
