A mother is speaking out after learning that the alleged sex offender who preyed upon her 13-year-old daughter was an illegal immigrant set free by local authorities who chose not to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Trump administration recently brought the case to light after launching mass deportation raids in Charlotte. While exposing local authorities for setting illegal immigrants free, the Department of Homeland Security highlighted the case of Costa Rican illegal immigrant Jordan Renato Castillo-Chavez, 29, as one out of roughly 1,400 cases in Charlotte where local cops refused to honor federal immigration detainers.
&#8220;It&#8217;s hurtful that my child is a victim and they had this person and let him go,&#8221; the victim&#8217;s mother, Misha Rose, whose own father was deported from the United States after committing a crime, told WSOC.
&#8220;This is serious &#8230; we need justice, he needs to go,&#8221; she said as she fought back tears.

Pineville police charged Castillo-Chavez in March with indecent liberties and other sex offenses after he allegedly began messaging the young victim online. But he later bonded out of custody.
&#8220;There was this message from this guy, and I was like, &#8216;Who is this?&#8217; and she was like, &#8216;Oh, that&#8217;s my friend, I just met him online.&#8217; And I looked at the messages, there were photos, there were messages that indicated he was like coming to pick her up, and I immediately just like dropped, like I fainted, like this is not happening right now,&#8221; Rose recalled.
The Department of Homeland Security said local authorities failed to honor their detainer request to hand over the illegal immigrant if he was to be released.
The Mecklenburg County sheriff&#8217;s office, however, claims that ICE made a request for advanced notice of Castillo-Chavez&#8217;s release, but never issued a formal detainer, according to WSOC. The sheriff&#8217;s office said they never notified federal immigration agents because there was no legal requirement in place.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues its deployment of Border Patrol agents to Charlotte to clean up the mess created by sanctuary policies. The feds have already made over 200 arrests since the operation began over the weekend.
&#8220;Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens hurting them, their families, or their neighbors,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said recently of the operation.
“There have been too many victims of criminal illegal aliens. President Trump and Secretary Noem will step up to protect Americans when sanctuary politicians won’t,&#8221; she said.

An elementary school in the sanctuary state of Colorado employed an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-illegal-immigrant-truck-drivers-ended-up-on-americas-roads?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=Original&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=How+Illegal+Immigrant+Truck+Drivers+Ended+Up+On+America%E2%80%99s+Roads">illegal immigrant</a> to teach fifth grade before she was ultimately arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Marina Ortiz-Abollaneda left Peru and crossed the border illegally in 2022. She was ultimately released into the country as the Biden administration waved in thousands of migrants each month, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire.
She began teaching at the Global Village Academy in the Denver suburb of Parker, Colorado, after she received a work permit, according to a letter Principal Stacy Bush recently sent to parents.
ICE nabbed Ortiz-Abollaneda alongside her family members on Friday while she was reporting for a routine check-in with ICE as part of her ongoing immigration case.
“The previous administration’s open border policies allowed Ortiz-Abollaneda and millions of other illegal aliens — including violent criminals — to be released into this country,” Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire.
“We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $1,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return,” said McLaughlin.
The school is now working to get Ortiz-Abollaneda back to teaching, Bush wrote in her letter to parents.
“We are currently working closely with our legal team and outside immigration attorneys to understand if and how we might be able to help facilitate their return to Colorado,” Bush wrote.
Susan Meek, a board of education director for the Douglas County School District, said she was “deeply shocked and profoundly saddened” by Ortiz-Abollaneda’s arrest, <a href="https://www.denver7.com/news/investigations/parker-5th-grade-teacher-family-detained-by-ice-in-colorado-denver7-investigates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ABC7.
“When someone who contributes to our shared mission of educating children is suddenly taken away, it sends a chilling message to the many families in our district who live each day with fear, uncertainty, and vulnerability,” Meek wrote in a statement.
The Trump administration’s mass deportation campaign has exposed cases of illegal immigrants who have been educating America’s youth.
In one recent case, ICE <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-who-was-des-moines-school-superintendent-had-lengthy-rap-sheet">arrested</a> Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Andre Roberts of Guyana, who was in the United States illegally and had a lengthy rap sheet, The Daily Wire previously reported.

Dozens of rioters hurled rocks and formed a mob against federal agents who just faced a ramming attack from an illegal immigrant suspect, according to reports.
Border Patrol agents were attempting to detain an illegal immigrant suspect who hit their vehicle and then tried to flee, sparking a car chase, <a href="https://wgntv.com/news/chicago-news/skycam9-over-law-enforcement-activity-on-east-side/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WGN9. Demonstrators caught wind of the presence of federal agents and soon gathered, with some throwing rocks and bottles at authorities.
Authorities then deployed tear gas to break up the group.
“This morning while conducting an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago, a vehicle, driven by an illegal alien, rammed a Border Patrol vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. Border Patrol pursued the vehicle and was eventually able to stop it utilizing an authorized precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver. Once the vehicle was stopped, the suspects, who are both illegal aliens, attempted to flee on foot. As Border Patrol arrested the subjects and attempted to secure the scene, a crowd began to form and eventually turned hostile and eventually crowd control measures were used,&#8221; the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement regarding the incident.
&#8220;This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of illegal aliens violently resisting arrest and agitators and criminals ramming cars into our law enforcement officers. The fact that this attack was carried out by two illegal immigrants highlights the need for federal law enforcement to continue to do their job of enforcing the laws of our nation — all while receiving no pay thanks to the Democrats’ government shutdown,&#8221; DHS said.
Chicago Police responded to the scene after receiving a call of a vehicle collision &#8220;involving federal agents,&#8221; the department said in a statement.

“CPD was not involved in any of the federal operations occurring at that location. Upon arrival to the scene, officers documented the traffic crash. Because this incident involved federal authorities, additional CPD supervisors responded to the scene to ensure the appropriate course of action was taken.&#8221;
&#8220;A crowd began to form and as federal authorities were leaving the scene, CPD members attempted to de-escalate the situation for the safety of everyone, including community members who were gathering at the location. Individuals then began throwing objects at the federal agents, at which point the federal agents deployed tear gas into the street. Thirteen CPD members were exposed to the tear gas. Exposure reports will be completed for all CPD members who were exposed to the tear gas.&#8221;
As the Trump administration targets illegal immigrants roaming Illinois, federal agents are facing an uptick in attacks and threats.
On Tuesday, DHS <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mexican-cartels-place-bounties-on-federal-agents-in-chicago?author=Jennie+Taer&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Mexican+Cartels+Place+Bounties+On+Federal+Agents+In+Chicago">revealed</a> that cartels in Mexico were placing bounties on the heads of ICE and Border Patrol agents patrolling the Windy City.
Armed gang “spotters” have also been deployed to rooftops in Chicago’s Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods to track the movements of federal agents.
The Trump administration attempted to deploy hundreds of National Guard troops to the region, but a judge held up the effort after the State of Illinois sued to stop it. The case is still pending.

California authorities released an illegal immigrant who went on to kill six farmworkers in a DUI crash last month, The Daily Wire has learned.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-nabs-illegal-immigrant-gang-member-who-fled-california-after-murder-only-to-kill-another-in-texas">California</a> authorities in 2024, asking them to hand over the Mexican illegal immigrant Beto Cerillo-Bialva, 49, before he was released for his third DUI arrest, the Department of Homeland Security told The Daily Wire.
But that request was ignored. Cerillo-Bialva was released, only to go on to allegedly commit his fourth DUI in Napa County, where he drunkenly drove into a tree, killing six passengers and severely injuring another.
Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said sanctuary laws are to blame for the fatal crash.
“This serial criminal killed six innocent souls. Governor Newsom has blood on his hands. This serial criminal should have never been released by California authorities,” McLaughlin said.
“Sanctuary policies protect the WORST OF THE WORST criminal illegal aliens ICE will do everything in our power to remove this serial drunk driver, abuser, and drug user from our country,” she added.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office hit back at the Trump administration, placing the blame on the feds.
“It’s clear that this is an attempt to distract from the truth,” said Diana Crofts-Pelayo, Newsom’s deputy director of communications, <a href="https://www.ktvu.com/news/napa-county-crash-suspect-ice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to KTVU.
Federal authorities have deported Cerillo-Bialva seven times, according to DHS. He also has a criminal history that includes possession of cocaine, three DUIs, driving without a license, and violating a court-ordered restraining order.  
“This individual re-entered the country several times under the federal government’s watch. Trump and Miller have little interest in public safety or protecting farmworkers,” said Crofts-Pelayo.
The victims of the crash were identified as Loreto Ricardo Hernandez, 42; Fernando Silverio, 34; Aaron Ruiz, 39; Beymar Reynosa Rodriguez, 32; Demetrio Celerino Francisco, 39; and Pedro Lopez Gomez, 57, according to KTVU.
California became a sanctuary state in 2018, preventing local authorities from assisting ICE and keeping them out of local jails.
In an effort to carry out its mass deportation campaign in sanctuary states, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/06/us-news/trumps-doj-targets-sanctuary-city-nyc-by-going-after-migrants-with-federal-charges/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump</a> administration has worked to obtain federal warrants when making immigration arrests. The warrants are a loophole in the sanctuary laws, allowing ICE agents into jails when they obtain such charges, as they escalate immigration cases from civil to criminal.
The charges are often for illegal entry or reentry after deportation.

Among those arrested were rapists, individuals with DUI convictions and previously-deportation illegal immigrants, <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/10/01/dhs-arrests-more-800-illegal-aliens-including-worst-worst-criminals-operation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Homeland Security. In one part of the operation, roughly 300 federal agents descended upon an apartment complex teeming with suspected Tren de Aragua gang members.
“The Trump Administration will not allow violent criminals or repeat offenders to terrorize our neighborhoods or victimize our children and innocent Americans,”  Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement regarding the arrests.

The Trump administration&#8217;s immigration raids in Chicago and the nearby suburbs started in September, with the deployment of additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol agents to the Windy City. In response, protestors have taken to the streets in an attempt to block the agents from arresting illegal immigrants.

DHS Arrests 800 Illegal Immigrants In Illinois Raids As Trump’s Deportations Continue Amid Shutdown

The Trump administration is demanding that New York City hand over a previously deported illegal immigrant with a rap sheet who is now accused of fatally mowing down a young teen who refused his sexual advances.
Honduran illegal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-illegal-immigrant-fatally-shot-by-ice-agent-received-deportation-waiver-under-biden">immigrant</a> Jose Edwin Cruz Gomez, 38, is accused of hitting a 16-year-old girl, her mother, and stepfather on Saturday with his vehicle after the teen rejected “his drunken, lewd advances,” Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a press release.

The young girl was killed as a result of the attack, while her mother was injured, according to <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-lodges-detainer-against-illegal-alien-who-murdered-teenage-girl-after-she" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ICE</a>.
Now, ICE is pushing the New York City Department of Corrections not to release Cruz Gomez from custody before handing him over to the feds.
ICE officially lodged a detainer requesting that Cruz Gomez stay in custody on Monday, the agency said.
“Another young family is dealing with an unimaginable and all-too-preventable tragedy due to soft-on-crime sanctuary policies and prior open-border policies that let criminal aliens pour into our country with impunity,” acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons said in a statement Wednesday.
“The days of criminal aliens being given carte blanche to harm innocent people are over. These violent offenders will face the full force of the law and then be expeditiously removed from the U.S.,” he added.

Cruz Gomez crossed the southern <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-trump-speeds-up-mass-deportation-campaign-with-389000-illegal-immigrant-removals">border</a> illegally into Nogales, Arizona, on November 10, 2004, according to ICE. The illegal immigrant pleaded with an immigration judge to grant him asylum and allow him to stay, but he was deported in 2005.
He then crossed the border again, sneaking past authorities at an unknown subsequent date, according to ICE.
Cruz Gomez then appeared on Long Island, where he was arrested for a DUI on April 29, 2013.
ICE took him into custody after his deportation order was reinstated, but eventually released him two months later with an electronic monitor, which he later ditched, ICE said. The feds tried to locate him, but were unsuccessful.
Cruz Gomez allegedly went on to commit other crimes, including possession of a forged instrument in October 2024; disorderly conduct: creating hazardous or physically offensive conditions; attempted driving while intoxicated; and attempted operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more in January.

After each arrest, local cops released him from custody before ICE could get their hands on him, the agency said. ICE also had its hands tied under the Biden administration, which prevented the agency from arresting illegal immigrants who didn’t meet its priorities for arrests.
“He didn’t meet their criteria of aggravated felon with additional factors or a national security threat … it’s Biden’s fault,” former acting ICE Director Jonathan Fahey told The Daily Wire.
While sanctuary laws also shielded Cruz Gomez, there’s a major loophole the Trump administration could use to arrest him, said Fahey.
The Trump administration has hit <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/19/us-news/how-trumps-doj-is-forcing-sanctuary-city-authorities-to-help-with-immigration-crackdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">thousands</a> of illegal immigrants with criminal charges for entering the country after previous deportations, which results in federal criminal charges that allow ICE agents to enter sanctuary jails.
“The one thing that they can do to ensure he doesn&#8217;t get released is if they were to charge him with reentry after being deported then that&#8217;s a criminal warrant and they have to honor those,” said Fahey.
“That’s the way to get at some of these sanctuary cities … there’s so many people sitting in jails in LA, New York, Chicago, that probably are eligible,” he said.

An Obama-appointed judge ruled on Friday that President Donald Trump can&#8217;t cut federal funding from dozens of cities and counties that officials have deemed &#8220;sanctuaries&#8221; for illegal immigrants.
U.S. District Judge William Orrick, who was appointed by former President Barack Obama in 2012, extended a preliminary injunction to block the Trump administration from pulling federal funds, or attaching immigration conditions to federal funds for local jurisdictions, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-admin-blocked-slashing-funding-dozens-local-governments-sanctuary-policies">according</a> to a Fox News report.
The ruling protects more than 30 sanctuary jurisdictions, including Los Angeles, Baltimore, Boston, and Chicago.
Orrick additionally blocked Trump from placing similar immigration-related conditions on two grant programs.
The judge argued that Trump&#8217;s action to protect Americans from unvetted illegal immigrants, specifically by threatening to withhold federal funding, is unconstitutional coercion.
In January, Trump signed an executive order to cut off federal funding for sanctuary jurisdictions, moving to fulfill a widely-supported campaign promise. The EO, called &#8220;Protecting the American People Against Invasion,&#8221; <a href="https://immpolicytracking.org/policies/potus-issues-executive-order-directing-doj-and-dhs-to-take-civil-and-criminal-enforcement-action-against-sanctuary-jurisdictions/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">directs</a> the DOJ and the Department of Homeland Security to ensure &#8220;sanctuary jurisdictions&#8221; do not receive federal money. It further directs the DOJ and DHS to &#8220;evaluate and undertake any other lawful actions, criminal or civil, that they deem warranted based on any such jurisdiction’s practices that interfere with the enforcement of Federal law.&#8221;

The administration has also targeted the worst of the worst, suing Los Angeles and New York City for such policies. The DOJ sued Los Angeles in June, arguing that city policies barring city resources from aiding in immigration enforcement operations or collecting information about individuals&#8217; citizenship status violate federal law, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/justice-department-sues-la-over-immigration-enforcement-policies-2025-06-30/">reported</a>. A month later, the DOJ took action against New York City for related immigration reasons.
Trump has <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/04/11/trump-sanctuary-cities-crime-false/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">spoken</a> fiercely about wanting to defund sanctuary jurisdictions, deeming them a threat to the American people and the rule of law.

They are disgracing our Country, and are being mocked all over the World,&#8221; Trump posted back in April on Truth Social. &#8220;Working on papers to withhold all Federal Funding for any City or State that allows these Death Traps to exist!!!”
The Trump administration is expected to appeal the ruling.

After leftist Boston Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu attacked Attorney General Pam Bondi’s order to dismantle the city’s sanctuary policy, acting ICE Director Todd Lyons <a href="https://www.bostonherald.com/2025/08/20/ice-director-vows-to-flood-boston-after-mayor-wus-refusal-to-strip-sanctuary-protections/">fired back</a> on Wednesday, saying the agency would “flood the zone.”
Earlier this month, Bondi sent a letter to Wu that <a href="https://www.bostonherald.com/2025/08/18/mayor-wu-to-respond-to-feds-demand-to-strip-sanctuary-protections-boston-does-not-back-down-to-bullies/">stated</a>, “For too long, so-called sanctuary jurisdiction policies have undermined this necessary cooperation and obstructed federal immigration enforcement, giving aliens cover to perpetrate crimes in our communities and evade the immigration consequences that federal law requires. You are hereby notified that your jurisdiction has been identified as one that engages in sanctuary policies and practices that thwart federal immigration enforcement to the detriment of the interests of the United States. This ends now.”
On Monday, Bondi told Fox News of her directive to sanctuary cities: “If they don’t comply with us, we’re going to work with other agencies to cut off their federal funding. We are going to send in law enforcement just like we did during the LA riots, just like we’re doing here in Washington, D.C. And if they’re not going to keep their citizens safe, Donald Trump will keep them safe.”
Wu held a press conference on Tuesday where she  arrogantly responded, “The U.S. Attorney General asked for a response today, so here it is. Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures. Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law, and Boston will not back down from who we are or what we stand for. We will not back away from our community that has made us the safest city in the country.”
Bondi had given Wu a Tuesday deadline to respond to the letter she sent to Wu and other leaders of cities and states identified by the Department of Justice as sanctuary jurisdictions, with an order to “eliminate laws, policies and practices that impede federal law enforcement.”
Speaking on “The Howie Carr Show” on Wednesday, Lyons said ICE is “going to keep making Boston safe, as she’s failing to do with the sanctuary city policies.”

“We did Operation Patriot March which yielded over 1,000 arrests, and now you’re going to see more ICE agents come to Boston to make sure that we take these public threats out that she wants to let go back in the communities. We’re going to keep making America safe. &#8230; We’re definitely going to … flood the zone, especially in sanctuary jurisdictions. Boston and Massachusetts decided to say that they wanted to stay sanctuary. Sanctuary does not mean safer streets. It means more criminal aliens out and about the neighborhood. But 100%, you will see a larger ICE presence.”
Lyons accused Massachusetts of ignoring ICE detainers or releasing “criminal aliens” convicted of crimes in the United States and abroad, adding,  “So not only do we have to go ahead and go after the ones we were targeting, but we have to also deal with jurisdictions releasing criminal aliens in real time while we’re out there working the streets. It’s not making anyone safer.”
Lyons said that although Boston police are barred from helping ICE because of the city’s Trust Act, some are helping ICE surreptitiously because they fear “getting in trouble or getting fired.”
He continued:

We have so many men and women on the Boston Police Department and other jurisdictions that are so pro-ICE, that want to work with us and that are actually helping us behind the scenes. And that’s what I think local leaders don’t understand, is they need to talk to the men and women on the ground, because … there are so many of these criminal aliens that keep getting released to go out and commit more crimes that the local law enforcement have to deal with. We can take that violent criminal alien instantly out of the neighborhood.

Topline: An illegal immigrant who obtained a commercial driver&#8217;s license in the sanctuary state of California has been charged with killing three people in a vehicular homicide in Florida, sparking new outrage over sanctuary policies.
Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from India, was driving a semi-truck on the <a href="https://www.flhsmv.gov/2025/08/16/illegal-u-turn-truck-driver-arrested-for-vehicular-homicide/">Florida</a> turnpike last week when he allegedly attempted an illegal U-turn, causing a collision that killed all three occupants of a minivan. Singh entered the U.S. illegally in California in 2018 and was able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the state.
The incident has reignited the national debate over sanctuary policies. A DHS spokesperson <a href="https://x.com/DHSgov/status/1957433429689020919">said</a> in a statement, &#8220;Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License—this state of governance is asinine.” Governor Newsom&#8217;s office has attempted to shift blame, claiming the Trump administration issued Singh a work permit, but DHS says the permit was rejected under Trump and later approved under the Biden administration.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), who signed a ban on sanctuary city policies in his state, expressed shock that a man who he said doesn&#8217;t even speak English was issued a CDL in California. DHS issued a statement asking, &#8220;How many more innocent people have to die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?”

Topline: The Texas Democrats who fled the state to block a Republican-led redistricting effort have returned, paving the way for the GOP to pass a new map that could net them five House seats.
After fleeing the state for weeks to deny Republicans a quorum, the protesting Democrats have returned to the state capital. Their effort failed to stop the new congressional map, which is now on the agenda for a new special session called by Governor Greg Abbott (R). The returning lawmakers now face hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, at a rate of $500 per day for their absence. Governor Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) are also seeking to have 13 of the lawmakers removed from office.
In response to the Texas GOP&#8217;s move, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) is asking voters in his state to approve a measure in a special election to temporarily suspend California&#8217;s independent redistricting commission. This would allow the state&#8217;s Democrat-supermajority legislature to gerrymander its own map to gain five House seats and &#8220;neuter&#8221; the Republican gains in Texas. Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R), who led the effort to create the independent commission, is leading the opposition to Newsom’s plan.

On Thursday, following President Trump’s determined violent crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., the city’s police department has decided to break from its existing policy as a &#8220;sanctuary city&#8221; to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“Sanctuary cities” generally restrict local law enforcement from notifying federal immigration enforcement authorities about individuals not in custody. Some examples include Boston, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, and San Diego.
A press release signed by Washington D.C. Police Chief Pamela A. Smith stated, “Effective immediately, members may assist federal immigration enforcement agencies with the following: Sharing information about persons not in MPD custody (e.g., during traffic stops). Providing transportation for federal immigration agency employees and detained subjects,&#8221; NBC 4&#8217;s Mark Segraves reported.

On April 28, Trump issued an <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/04/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-protects-american-communities-from-criminal-aliens/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">executive order</a> that ordered the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to “publish a list of States and local jurisdictions obstructing federal immigration law enforcement and notify each sanctuary jurisdiction of its non-compliance, providing an opportunity to correct it. Sanctuary jurisdictions that do not comply with federal law may lose federal funding.”
Back in February, President Donald Trump suggested the federal government should “take over” Washington, D.C., to crack down on crime and address widespread homelessness, declaring, “I think that we should govern the District of Columbia. I think that we should run it strong, run it with law and order, make it absolutely flawless.”
“And I think we should take over Washington, D.C. We could save people from getting killed,” Trump added. “They have a great police department there. Somehow they’re not utilized properly. We should govern D.C. The federal government should take over the governance of D.C. and run it really, really properly.”

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) took to the Senate floor on Tuesday and scolded members of his own party — in particular, Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Catherine Cortez-Masto (D-NV) — over their support for bipartisan police funding bills.
The fight began when Klobuchar and Cortez-Masto pushed for the bills — which would provide law enforcement with trauma kits and cover family death benefits — to pass by unanimous consent. Booker immediately proposed an amendment that would force public safety resources to be divided between states without any consideration for political leaning.
Both Klobuchar and Cortez-Masto pushed back, saying that while they agreed funding should not be withheld for political reasons, Booker should have brought up the amendment during the markup process instead of waiting until the last minute.
&#8220;Tacking on a poison pill language to these bills won’t guarantee any additional funding makes it to New Jersey, Nevada, or any other state. Instead what it will do, it will keep critical bills from passing in the first place. You gotta question what is going on here,&#8221; Cortez-Masto said, clearly suggesting that Booker was grandstanding.
Booker objected, saying that Trump had threatened to withhold funding from sanctuary states after the bills in question had already gone through that process. He then pivoted to attack his own party for not doing enough to stand up to Trump.
&#8220;The Democratic Party needs a wake-up call,&#8221; he said.

Booker accused law firms, colleges, and even media networks of &#8220;bending the knee&#8221; to Trump, claiming that Stephen Colbert — who was ousted from his gig at &#8220;The Late Show&#8221; over a reported $40 million loss — was taken &#8220;off the air because [he] dared to insult a president.&#8221;
He continued in that vein, getting progressively louder and more animated until he was shouting: &#8220;It&#8217;s time for Democrats to have a backbone. It&#8217;s time for us to fight. It&#8217;s time for us to draw lines. Don&#8217;t question my integrity. Don&#8217;t question my motives. I&#8217;m standing for Jersey! I am standing for my police officers. I&#8217;m standing for the Constitution, and I&#8217;m standing for what&#8217;s right. And dear God, if you want to come at me that way, you&#8217;re going to have to take it up with me.&#8221;
Booker didn&#8217;t stop there, but instead started shouting about rights being taken away and &#8220;secret police&#8221; who he claimed were &#8220;running around this country&#8221; and taking people off the street who were in the country legally.
He concluded by saying that if Democrats didn&#8217;t &#8220;stand together,&#8221; they would &#8220;deserve to lose.&#8221;

New York City’s sanctuary laws “intentionally obstruct the sharing of information envisioned and affirmatively protected by Congress, including sharing basic information such as release dates, court appearance dates, and custodial status,” the lawsuit states. “The challenged provisions also impair federal detention of removable aliens, including dangerous criminals, contrary to federal law.”
“The Sanctuary Provisions further purport to direct federal officials to procure criminal arrest warrants to take custody of removable aliens, even though Congress has made an explicit policy choice that such apprehensions for removal can be effectuated by civil arrest warrants for immigration enforcement,” it continues.
The lawsuit also accused the city of effectively ensuring that criminal aliens are released onto the streets rather than being turned over to federal authorities for potential deportation. The ban on city officials turning criminal aliens over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement requires “ICE to risk officer safety and expend considerable resources to effectuate arrests in communities.”
“This intentional sabotage of federal immigration enforcement is unlawful and dangerous. These Sanctuary Policies have resulted in countless criminals being released into the City who should have been held for immigration removal from the United States,” the lawsuit states.
New York City is the latest in a string of major American cities that have been hit with lawsuits over sanctuary city policies. The Trump administration in June sued Los Angeles. In February, the administration filed a lawsuit against Chicago.
“Sanctuary cities are only sanctuaries for criminals. President Trump promised to Make America Safe Again and deport criminal illegal aliens,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-doj-sues-new-york-city-long-standing-sanctuary-immigration-policies">Fox News</a> in a statement. “But sanctuary cities, like NYC, are working in direct opposition to the mandate that President Trump was elected to fulfill and American citizens are paying the price. The Trump Administration will not tolerate local politicians interfering in the enforcement of federal immigration laws.”
