When I arrived in the United States Senate in 2011, the Republican Leader would often paraphrase George Washington who referred to the Senate as the saucer beneath a cup of tea. Just like a saucer cools the tea, the “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body” was uniquely designed to cool the political passions of the time.
From the viewpoint of a limited government conservative, slowing down the passage of legislation that generally tends to grow government and reduce our freedom, the saucer analogy seemed very appealing. But now that I’ve served within this highly partisan and dysfunctional body for 15 years, I would say a better analogy is the Senate is more like the plaque clogging an artery leading to a heart attack.
There are two basic forms of debate in the Senate: speechmaking and the offering of legislation, motions and amendments for a vote. Senators love engaging in the former, but only the latter results in law. Once debate on a particular bill ends, passage requires only a simple majority, currently 51 votes. That has never changed. What has changed is the method for ending debate and “calling the question” or voting on final passage.
Prior to 1917, when Senate Rule 22 was passed establishing the cloture vote, there was no formal way of ending debate — a filibuster — in the Senate. Because unlimited debate was the tradition of the Senate, cloture was invoked only five times in the first approximately 50 years of its existence. That’s because the cloture vote was intended to end a debate that two-thirds (now three-fifths) of senators believed had gone on too long. For example, a cloture vote succeeded in ending debate on the Civil Rights Act but only after a 57-day filibuster — 57 days of debate. It was never intended to prevent all debate, however, that is exactly how it is now being used.
Rather than requiring a simple majority to get on a bill and start debate, now a supermajority of 60 votes is routinely required. This is a huge difference. Ideally, a bill addressing an important issue would be put on the floor and then further honed through a process of discussion and the adoption of amendments. Prior to 1917, as long as any Senator wanted to keep talking or offering motions and amendments (engaged in a filibuster), the question was not called.
Eventually, exhaustion set in and the Senate moved to vote on final passage — with a simple majority required for passage. This was how a deliberative body actually lived up to its name.
Now, instead of reserving the cloture vote for the very end of an extended filibuster as a last resort measure to end debate and vote on passage, the minority uses it at the very start of the process to prevent even getting on a bill, thereby blocking all debate. The resulting record of failure speaks for itself.
Total federal government debt is approaching $39 trillion. Since I entered Congress in 2011, we should have passed 180 appropriations bills prior to the start of the fiscal year they were funding. We have passed a whopping total of six on time. That’s a 96.7% failure rate. Because of that dysfunction, we have had five shutdowns, had to rely on 57 continuing resolutions to fund government on an interim basis, and increased or suspended the debt ceiling 12 times to allow the government to incur an additional $24 trillion in debt. We had a record 42-day shutdown at the start of this fiscal year, and now Democrats are holding TSA and other DHS employees hostage over their quest to defund ICE and CBP.
Both sides want to maintain the 60-vote cloture threshold to block each other’s legislative agenda when they are in the minority. But after Democrats fell only two votes short of ending the filibuster in 2022, the odds are extremely high that they will end it as soon as they regain the majority and it’s advantageous for them to do so. The Republican conference is divided between those of us who believe Democrats will end the filibuster and are therefore willing to beat them to the punch, and those who think we should risk waiting, hoping Democrats will preserve the filibuster. There are good faith arguments supporting both positions.
In light of the profound dysfunction described above, I’m not sure how things could get much worse by ending the filibuster. The status quo certainly isn’t working. I think it’s obvious things must change — we need a paradigm shift.
If the filibuster does end, we all might be surprised to find senators attempting to find common ground on more issues to help ensure bills pass with bipartisan support, thereby reducing the chance of being overturned when the other side regains power. At this point, I’m willing to make that change.

A Senate panel on Wednesday advanced a bill that seeks to prohibit members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents from trading or holding individual stocks — although the ban would not force a full divestment for current office holders until if and they win and start another term.
Part of an effort led by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), the legislation passed through the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in an 8-7 vote. Democrats joined with Hawley in supporting the <a href="https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/26036909/s-1498-hawley-substitute-as-modified-wal25677.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">measure</a>, while the rest of the Republicans opposed it.
“Americans have watched politicians earn a fortune using information not available to the general public while the average family struggles to get by. It&#8217;s just wrong,&#8221; Hawley said. &#8220;Members of Congress should be focused on delivering results for their constituents, not returns on investments. It&#8217;s time to find out where members stand. It&#8217;s time we restore trust in Congress and ban all members from trading and holding stocks.&#8221;
Featuring a name <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/29/opinion/pelosis-prime-profits-prove-its-time-to-ban-congress-stock-trading/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inspired</a> by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her strong performance in the stock market, the bill initially offered by Hawley sought to keep just lawmakers and their spouses from stock picking, but allow for investment in diversified mutual funds, Exchange-Traded Funds, and Treasury bonds. President Donald Trump even <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sen-hawley-reintroduces-pelosi-act-to-curb-congressional-stock-trading-trump-signals-approval" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> he would sign the legislation.
A change was later offered to add the president and vice president to the ban, part of what Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/07/29/white-house-lobbies-hawley-stock-trading-ban" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> to be Hawley&#8217;s bid to gain Democrat support. But with the White House raising Article II concerns, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee ultimately approved a version that bars only current office-holders from stock trading if they get elected to another term — effectively giving Trump a pass, given he&#8217;s in his second term. Still, that was enough for the Democrats.
&#8220;The American people think ALL politicians, Democrats and Republicans, use our position to enrich ourselves,&#8221; Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) <a href="https://x.com/SenatorSlotkin/status/1950599974686691459" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> in a post on X. &#8220;Today, we sent a bill to the Senate floor that bans Members of Congress, the President, and VP from trading stocks. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good first step, and we should pass it into law.&#8221;
Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/congressional-stock-trading-ban-clears-senate-committee-republicans-arguing-insults-2025-7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that even though full divestment from individual stocks would not be required immediately, it would prevent Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and lawmakers from buying stocks right way and, 90 days after enactment, disallow them from selling stocks.
Now the legislation heads to the full Senate, where the GOP has a 53-seat majority.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said he opposed exempting Trump because he believes &#8220;everybody should be treated fairly.&#8221; He also bemoaned how it excluded the courts and staff of office-holders.
Another Republican on the panel, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfalT1gSTbo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">derided</a> what he called &#8220;legislative demagoguery.&#8221; He noted that insider trading laws and financial disclosure rules already exist. In addition, Johnson warned the measure would &#8220;make it very unattractive&#8221; for people to run for office, particularly those with business experience.
There is GOP support for a congressional stock trading ban in the House. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has signaled that she will <a href="https://x.com/RepLuna/status/1950317068911263752" target="_blank" rel="noopener">force</a> a vote.
&#8220;Members of Congress should be banned from trading individual stocks because their access to privileged, nonpublic information creates unavoidable conflicts of interest that erode public confidence in government,&#8221; Luna <a href="https://x.com/RepLuna/status/1950589449600929876" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X.
&#8220;As lawmakers, we receive classified briefings, shape economic policies, and interact with industry leaders, giving us insights that can influence stock prices. Even if no laws are broken, the appearance of profiting from this access fuels distrust among Americans,&#8221; she added. &#8220;The American people do not trust the US government and banning stock trading is a step forward to building that trust.&#8221;

The Biden administration was aware of potentially deadly side effects associated with COVID vaccines and chose not to alert the public about the risks for months, according to a bombshell Senate report obtained by The Daily Wire.
According to the report from the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, officials knew as early as February 2021 that the vaccines were associated with myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the thin sac surrounding the heart). Still, they waited to warn the public until June as they pushed the vaccine on Americans. 
The report concludes that U.S. health officials &#8220;knew about the risks of myocarditis,&#8221; &#8220;downplayed the health concern,&#8221; and deliberately &#8220;delayed informing the public about the risk.&#8221;
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), who chairs the committee and will lead a hearing on it later this afternoon, told The Daily Wire that Biden officials delayed reporting the side effects because they were concerned about &#8220;vaccine hesitancy.&#8221; 
&#8220;But in being concerned about that, they violated the inviolable principle of informed consent,&#8221; Johnson said.

&#8220;The federal government was very well aware of the myocarditis signal, particularly in young men, as early as February [2021],&#8221; Johnson told The Daily Wire, adding that Israeli officials were informing the United States about side effects they were noticing.
In late February, a CDC official named Lauri Markowitz, who co-led the Vaccine Safety Technical Work Group (VaST), sent an email concerning the “draft minutes and summary report from the VaST call this week” and stressed that “all VaST documents and communications are confidential.”
According to that email, the call included an update about nearly 1,000 death reports to VAERS following vaccination. Notably, the email said that in the cases where cause of death was “known,” it was “often cardiovascular”:
<blockquote>There have been 19536 VAERS reports (Moderna: 7092 PfizerBioNTech: 12444), including 1287 reports of COVID-19 disease after vaccination and 980 death reports to VAERS. Of the death reports, 470 were from long term care facilities. Where known, the cause of death was often cardiovascular.</blockquote>
Israel rolled out vaccinations quicker than the United States, so Israeli health officials saw adverse effects sooner.
The report states that the Israeli Ministry of Health notified Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials of “large reports of myocarditis, particularly in young people, following the administration of the Pfizer vaccine.”

Johnson said the report — &#8220;Failure to Warn: How Federal Health Agencies Downplayed the Risk of Myocarditis and Other Adverse Events Following COVID-19 Vaccination&#8221; — documents this apparent cover up in over 2,400 pages of attachments, which largely derive from Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
&#8220;For a number of months, they were talking about these things. At some point in time, they actually internally said, &#8216;Is there a signal of myocarditis, a safety signal?&#8217; And the answer was &#8216;Yes,'&#8221; Johnson explained. &#8220;And yet, a couple of days later, they decided not to issue a warning on the Health Alert Network (HAN).&#8221;
&#8220;Rather than provide informed consent, the federal health agencies, the Biden administration, covered it up,&#8221; Johnson charged. &#8220;They downplayed the signals.&#8221;
The report notes that the Biden White House &#8220;distribut[ed] talking points to top U.S. health officials,&#8221; including National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci, downplaying the risk of myocarditis:
<blockquote>Rather than provide the public and health care providers with immediate and transparent information regarding the risk of myocarditis following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, the Biden administration waited until late June 2021 to announce changes to the labels for the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines based on the “suggested increased risks” of myocarditis and pericarditis. Even though CDC and FDA officials were well aware of the risk of myocarditis following COVID-19 vaccination, the Biden administration opted to withhold issuing a formal warning to the public for months about the safety concerns, jeopardizing the health of young Americans. </blockquote>
An executive summary of the report notes that Johnson&#8217;s committee was effectively stonewalled by the Biden administration when requesting documents, seeking transparency. Under the Trump administration, that changed.
&#8220;Now, under a new administration and a new HHS secretary, HHS is beginning to produce records, pursuant to the chairman’s subpoena, that should have been provided years ago, without redactions, to Congress and the public,&#8221; the report said.

Elon Musk said Sunday that the &#8220;entire destiny&#8221; of humanity could be impacted by the upcoming Wisconsin Supreme Court race on Tuesday.
Musk made the comments during a rally in Green Bay where he urged attendees to show up and vote for conservative judicial candidate Brad Schimel. Schimel is running against liberal Judge Susan Crawford in a race that will determine the ideological slant of the court.
&#8220;What&#8217;s happening on Tuesday is a vote for which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives. That is why it is so significant. And whichever party controls the House, to a significant degree controls the country, which then steers the course of Western Civilization,&#8221; Musk said, adding that he thought the &#8220;entire destiny of humanity&#8221; could be impacted by the race. 
Democrats believe that if Crawford wins on Tuesday, they will be able to get the Supreme Court to order maps more favorable to their party and get rid of two Republican seats. Musk said that the work of the Trump administration to reform the government would be seriously hindered if Republicans lost the House.
Musk, who walked out on stage wearing a cheesehead to a cheering crowd, said that the odds were currently stacked against Schimel, saying that conservatives were going to have to pull a rabbit out of the hat to win.

“The single biggest challenge, I think, is actually just making people aware that there is this very important election. And its both very important election for Judge Schimel as well as deciding on adding voter ID to the Wisconsin constitution, which is very, very important,&#8221; Musk said. 
Musk also announced that two Wisconsin residents, Nicholas Jacobs and Ekaterina Diestler, would be awarded $1 million after they signed a petition to stop activists judges. Musk said the purpose of the checks was &#8220;to get attention” and said that it had caused the &#8220;legacy media to lose their minds.&#8221;
The Supreme Court on Sunday declined to rule on a lawsuit from Democrat state Attorney General Josh Kaul seeking to block the payments.
Musk announced another initiative at the rally that would pay people $20 for every photo they submit of a Wisconsin resident with a picture of Brad Schimel in one hand and a thumbs up in the other.

Musk was joined at the rally by GOP Senator Ron Johnson and Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy.
“We need to return our Supreme Court to one that has justices and judges. And by that I mean people who will apply the law, not alter it,” Johnson said. “We’re not looking for super legislators.”
Johnson said that Crawford would be likely to vote overturn Act 10, a Republican-backed measure that brought dramatic reforms to government labor unions, and to redistrict Republican congressional districts.

Johnson started by asking Mayorkas if he had &#8220;any regrets&#8221; for the harm caused by the Biden administration&#8217;s &#8220;open border policies.&#8221;
&#8220;Do you ever, when you go to bed at night, do you have any regrets? Do you have any remorse for your complicity in the crimes — you have — your open border policies aided and abetted the murder of Americans, the rape of Americans,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;People have lost their loved ones because of this catastrophe, this open border policy. Johnson went on to cite statistics showing that crimes committed by illegal immigrants had risen dramatically in the time since President Joe Biden took office.

Many of the illegal immigrants who stormed the southern border on Thursday by breaking down razor wire and fencing before pushing into National Guard troops were reportedly processed and released into the United States after the incident. 
Video captured by New York Post reporter Jennie Taer showed hundreds of illegal immigrant men charging the border in El Paso, Texas, and appearing to assault National Guard troops. According to Taer, many of these men were processed by Border Patrol under <a href="https://www.heritage.org/immigration/commentary/why-the-end-title-42-means-the-end-secure-border">Title 8</a>, a measure that allows illegal immigrants to be released while their asylum claims make it through the courts. 
”This sends the message to people around the world that even if you act like this you can probably get into the country,” Taer said during an interview on Fox News. “And I think they continue to push these boundaries and to see what they can get away with and here they got away with some really, really scary stuff.”

A pair of Senate Republicans want Department of Justice (DOJ) leaders to explain what they said appears to be a &#8220;significant factual omission&#8221; in special counsel Robert Hur&#8217;s report on President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden&#8217;</a>s handling of classified documents, according to <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/grassley_johnson_to_doj_fbi_special_counsel_-_hur_report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a letter unveiled</a> on Monday.
Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ron Johnson (R-WI) wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, and Hur seeking details about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nine-boxes-of-docs-taken-from-biden-attorneys-office-in-boston" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nine boxes of materials</a> that were allegedly retrieved from the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boston" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston</a> office of a personal attorney to Biden that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) previously said the FBI had reviewed nearly one year ago.
[W]e publicly revealed last year that NARA had retrieved nine boxes of Biden records from the Boston office of Patrick Moore, one of Biden’s personal counsels,” the senators said. &#8220;Oddly, Special Counsel Hur’s report did not mention NARA’s retrieval of the nine boxes from Mr. Moore’s office … [I]t is unclear if Special Counsel Hur had any awareness of or reviewed the information contained in these nine boxes.&#8221;
The letter was dated Friday, one day after the release of Hur&#8217;s report that criticized Biden&#8217;s handling of classified documents while out of office. Although Hur did not recommend charges, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/storage/report-from-special-counsel-robert-k-hur-february-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the 388-page report</a> said Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/special-counsel-biden-has-significantly-limited-memory-didnt-remember-when-he-was-vp-or-when-son-died" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exhibited memory problems</a> that likely would preclude a jury from convicting the president.
Hur&#8217;s report briefly mentioned how Moore&#8217;s office became a &#8220;repository&#8221; for &#8220;Biden&#8217;s political materials, such as awards and of speeches,&#8221; but, as the senators noted, does not appear to address the nine boxes in question.
Grassley and Johnson have been in contact with NARA, which <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2023-03-07_nara_to_grassley_johnson_biden_records.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notified</a> them in March of last year that its staff had fetched the nine boxes from the Boston office at the request of the Justice Department in November of 2022 as part of the investigation into Biden&#8217;s handling of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-1100-pages-of-biden-docs-found-at-think-tank" target="_blank" rel="noopener">classified documents</a>.
NARA also divulged the FBI <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/grassley_johnson_to_doj_fbi_special_counsel_-_hur_report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reviewed</a> the contents of the boxes as of March 2023 and <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/nara_to_johnson_grassley_-_biden_records1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in September that NARA officials had not examined the materials but &#8220;will conduct an appropriate review&#8221; for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-investigators-seek-boston-connection-in-biden-pseudonym-mystery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sought-after records</a> that contained any pseudonyms or personal email addresses used for official government business.
“DOJ, FBI, and the Special Counsel’s office owe Congress and the American people a complete explanation regarding this apparent omission in Special Counsel Hur’s report, a detailed description of the contents of the nine boxes, and what was done with them,&#8221; Grassley and Johnson wrote.
The senators posed a number of questions seeking information about the materials and they requested a response by February 23. The Daily Wire reached out to the DOJ and FBI seeking comment. In response, an FBI spokesperson said the bureau had no comment and referred The Daily Wire to the special counsel.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-army" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Army</a> sent letters earlier this month to nearly 2,000 former service members fired under the Biden administration’s COVID <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/vaccine-mandate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vaccine mandate</a> telling them how to correct their military records and pointing them to recruiters if they wished to return to the military. 
The letter <a href="https://taskandpurpose.com/news/army-covid-vaccine-mandate-reversal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was</a> sent out before Veteran’s Day and told the fired soldiers that they could change the characterization of their dismissal from the military because of the expiration of the COVID vaccine mandate. The letter also pointed the former soldiers to recruiters if they hoped to rejoin the military. 
“As a result of the rescission of all current COVID-19 vaccination requirements, former Soldiers who were involuntarily separated for refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccination may request a correction of their military records from either or both the Army Discharge Review Board (ADRB) or the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR),” a <a href="https://taskandpurpose.com/news/army-covid-vaccine-mandate-reversal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> from Brig. Gen. Hope Rampy, Army Director of Personnel Management said. 
Rampy said that &#8220;individuals can request a correction to military personnel records, including regarding the characterization of discharge.&#8221; 
Over 8,400 service members <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/01/13/pentagon-back-pay-troops-covid-vaccine-mandate-00077902" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were</a> kicked out of the military due to the vaccine mandate while thousands more had their requests for religious exemptions rejected. According to Task and Purpose, 8,945 soldiers, 10,800 airmen and guardians, 4,172 sailors, and 3,717 Marines were denied religious exemptions. 
The Army, which has struggled to meet recruiting goals in recent years, also suggested that the former service members could return to the military.
&#8220;Individuals who desire to apply to return to service should contact their local Army, US Army Reserve (USAR) or Army National Guard (ARNG) recruiter for more information,&#8221; Rampy said. 
A spokesperson said that the letters were required to be sent out after Congress pushed the Pentagon to revoke the mandate. 
“As part of the overall COVID mandate rescission process mandated by Congress, the Army this month mailed the letters to approximately 1,900 individuals who had previously been separated. The letter provides information to former service members on how to request a correction of their military records,” a spokesperson <a href="https://justthenews.com/government/federal-agencies/military-letters-sent-ex-servicemembers-fired-over-covid-vax-mandate#google_vignette" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Just the News.

In response to the letter, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said that the Army should provide the fired service members with back pay and an apology.
“Maybe an apology and back pay would be appropriate as well … Or even an admission that it was a really stupid and misguided policy. Will [the DOD] finally be transparent with their data on vaccine injuries in DMED?” Johnson <a href="https://twitter.com/SenRonJohnson/status/1726987565323125109" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> to X. 
The Army <a href="https://apnews.com/article/army-recruiting-overhaul-college-job-hunting-cc2d8200467f3920e333197e42eee2ea" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was</a> short 15,000 recruits in 2022 and is on track to be short of recruits again this year.

A former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/fox-news">Fox News</a> producer is suing the network, saying it fired him due to his “refusal to report false information,” such as concerns about harmful effects of COVID vaccines. But Fox News says Jason Donner was fired for infractions including not showing up for work — which Donner blames, ironically, on the fact that the COVID vaccine made him sick for more than a week.
Donner, who was a Capitol Hill producer, filed a lawsuit in D.C. court in September saying Fox discriminated against him “as a result of Mr. Donner speaking out against the false news stories being published by Fox News and his political affiliation.”
One of those stories came in June 2021, when Donner was assigned to run a story on Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) raising questions about COVID vaccines. “Donner stated that it was dangerous to cover the story without interviewing a doctor for the opposing point of view,” the lawsuit said.  “Forced to cover the press conference, Donner reported accurately on the issue and thereby debunked/fact-checked each of Senator Johnson’s claims in his required story pitch. He was praised by fellow Fox staffers for presenting the facts but raised the ire of management.”
According to a <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ron-johnson-letters-moderna-pfizer-vaccine">FoxNews.com article</a>, by other reporters, on June 28 Johnson held a press conference with people “who experienced adverse reactions to the vaccines and experienced &#8216;refusal or reluctance&#8217; from their doctors to acknowledge that their symptoms might be tied to the vaccine.”
Johnson said he was “pro-vaccine” but held the hearing because people who did experience ill effects were “having a hard time getting their truths communicated… without being censored.” He wrote to Pfizer and Moderna asking them to provide data about adverse reactions.

Donner had other complaints. On January 6, 2021, when in Donner’s view Fox’s on-air comments did not sufficiently condemn what his lawsuit calls an “insurrection,” he called Fox’s control room and said, “I don’t want to hear any of this f—ing sh—t on our air ever again because you’re gonna get us all killed.” 
He said there were “reports of shots fired” — which was likely the sound of a police officer killing an unarmed protester.
In October 2021, Donner complained to management about Tucker Carlson’s coverage of January 6 and worked “on a story debunking the false claims.”
By 2022, Fox management said Donner was creating a “toxic environment” and needed “more self-awareness,” the lawsuit said. “Fox News’ management was pushing a far right-wing agenda in the news division, and Donner would not comply with their demands,” the lawsuit said.
In September of that year, Donner was fired, with Fox allegedly telling him it was because he was late for work and did not show up for work.
Donner said, ironically, that that’s because he had taken the COVID vaccine and had a severe adverse reaction — of the sort he didn’t want Sen. Johnson talking about without “debunking” it. 
“On September 26, 2022, Donner called in sick because he was recovering from the COVID vaccine that he had recently received. Donner had received the COVID vaccine the previous week, but fell ill from it. Despite being ill, he continued to work because he did not want to leave his coworkers short-handed. Nonetheless, by September 26, 2022, he was too ill to continue to work and so he called in sick. His body gave out on him because he had kept working while ill,” the <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2023/11/2023-CAB-006055.pdf">lawsuit</a> said.

“On September 27, 2022, Donner’s supervisor… accused Donner of being irresponsible and challenged Donner’s work ethic, despite the fact that Donner worked past 9pm three nights in the preceding week while ill from the COVID vaccine. Essentially, [supervisor NuNu] Japaridze faulted Donner for calling in sick the day before when he was recovering from the COVID vaccine. The call ended with Japaridze hanging up on Donner,” the lawsuit said.
The next day, the D.C. Bureau Chief ”told Donner that he was fired because he was late for work and did not show up for work (presumably referring to September 26, 2022 when Donner called in sick),” the lawsuit said, alleging that “this was a pretextual firing based on Donner’s political views and affiliation.”
The lawsuit was filed in D.C. Superior Court, invoking the D.C. Human Rights Act, on September 27, and was moved to federal court on November 13.
Fox and Donner’s lawyer did not return requests for comment.

Top lawmakers on the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations are asking for the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/fbi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FBI</a> and the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department of Justice</a> to provide unredacted documents on Saudi Arabia’s “role” in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/9-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">9/11</a> as numerous records on the subject have remained classified.
In a <a href="https://www.ronjohnson.senate.gov/services/files/4A131859-DDBB-4A6D-8D88-EA7A76631F14" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron Johnson</a> (R-WI) ask for unredacted documents so they can better understand <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/saudi-arabia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saudi Arabia</a>’s connection to 9/11.
“No one was more affected by these attacks than the families of those whose lives were lost on that day, and who have struggled to obtain accountability ever since. Our inquiry into Saudi Arabia’s attempts to influence U.S. affairs has underscored, yet again, the need for transparency, particularly regarding Saudi Arabia’s connection to the 9/11 attacks,” the senators wrote on Sunday, one day before the 22nd anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. 
The senators said that they had previously asked in July for “the U.S. government finally provide full transparency into what it knows about the attacks, particularly as it relates to Saudi Arabia’s involvement,” but had not yet heard back. 
They said that they asked again on August 8 for an unredacted copy of a record on “Operation Encore,” but had not yet received a single document from the FBI or the DOJ. &#8220;Operation Encore&#8221; <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/09/11/senate-sept11-saudi-arabia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was</a> the name given by the FBI to describe links between Saudi nationals and the terrorists who crashed the planes on 9/11. 
“Your failure to respond to our letter only adds to our concerns about the U.S. government’s longstanding refusal to provide full transparency to the American public, and particularly for the families of 9/11 victims, about Saudi Arabia’s role in the 9/11 attacks,” the senators wrote. 
Blumenthal and Johnson said that if the federal entities did not respond to their new call for unredacted documents, they could turn to other methods to ensure compliance with their request. 
Families and survivors of the 9/11 attacks have long pushed for more U.S. officials to press Saudi Arabia on the terrorist attacks. Ahead of President Joe Biden’s visit to Saudi Arabia in July 2022, the families and survivors asked Biden to discuss the attacks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

&#8220;If so, did any of the Biden records discovered at Mr. Moore’s Boston office include the pseudonyms and email addresses listed below that then-Vice President Biden used?&#8221; they asked. The senators listed: &#8220;RobinWare456@gmail.com,&#8221; &#8220;Robert.L.Peters@pci.gov,&#8221; &#8220;JRB Ware,&#8221; and &#8220;67stingray.&#8221;
NARA <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2023-03-07_nara_to_grassley_johnson_biden_records.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notified</a> the senators in March that its staff had fetched the nine boxes from the Boston office at the request of the Justice Department in November as part of an investigation into Biden&#8217;s handling of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-1100-pages-of-biden-docs-found-at-think-tank" target="_blank" rel="noopener">classified documents</a> currently led by special counsel Robert Hur. Grassley and Johnson had asked in prior correspondence whether NARA knew if the same email addresses appeared in any of the materials from Boston, but the agency <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2023-03-07_nara_to_grassley_johnson_biden_records.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insisted</a> that its staff had not reviewed the contents at the time.
Biden&#8217;s suspected use of fake names has started to gain more attention in recent days as a group called the Southeastern Legal Foundation <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/law-group-sues-national-archives-demanding-federal-agency-turn-over-5400-biden-pseudonym-emails" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sued</a> NARA to turn over approximately 5,400 records connected to Biden’s pseudonym accounts.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/comer-seeks-records-of-biden-allegedly-using-pseudonym-as-vice-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent a letter to NARA</a> earlier this month requesting all unredacted records and communications regarding Biden’s official duties as vice president that overlapped with his son Hunter’s activities in Ukraine — specifically mentioning a document allegedly sent to &#8220;&#8216;Robert L. Peters&#8217; — a pseudonym the Committee has identified as then Vice President Biden.&#8221;
For years, Biden claimed to have never spoken to Hunter about his business dealings, but as GOP investigators have uncovered a pattern of millions of dollars flowing to members of the First Family from foreign nationals under suspicious circumstances, the White House has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-snarls-at-lousy-question-about-calls-with-sons-business-partners" target="_blank" rel="noopener">taken to saying</a> the elder Biden never did business with his son. Now House Republicans appear to be on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/comer-says-biden-impeachment-inquiry-imminent-as-republicans-call-for-action" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cusp of starting an impeachment inquiry</a>.

In their latest letter, Grassley and Johnson pressed Archivist of the United States Colleen Shogan to declare whether NARA is certain that the roughly 5,400 records that the <a href="https://www.slfliberty.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/12/2023/08/20230828-Complaint-Exhibit-4-Doc.-1-4.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agency told</a> the Southeastern Legal Foundation was potentially responsive to the group&#8217;s Freedom of Information Act request make up the &#8220;complete subset of records that contain Biden’s pseudonyms and personal email addresses used for official government business&#8221; if NARA staff have still not reviewed the boxes from Boston. &#8220;Please explain,&#8221; they added.
Other demands made by the senators include a request for details on NARA&#8217;s efforts to respond to the Southeastern Legal Foundation, including the review of the “approximately 5,138 email messages, 25 electronic files and 200 pages of potentially responsive records.&#8221;
The senators asked NARA to provide the requested information by September 12.
A NARA spokesperson told The Daily Wire that the agency received the letter from Grassley and Johnson but did not comment any further on the matter.
