Saturday Night Live alum <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/when-it-comes-to-free-speech-rob-schneider-isnt-joking">Rob Schneider</a> joined Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro for this week’s “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/sunday-special" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunday Special</a>.” The pair laughed through a wide-ranging discussion of the 2024 election, Schneider’s Hollywood “cancellation,” Democrats’ transformation into the anti-free speech party, and much more. 
Schneider has become increasingly vocal about his political views in recent years, which has won him few friends in Hollywood — a journey he recounted in his new book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/You-Can-Do-Speak-America/dp/1546007865">You Can Do It!: Speak Your Mind, America</a>.”
The “Grown Ups” star had Shapiro in stitches right from the start, pulling on his famous impressions to mock Vice President Kamala Harris’ ever-changing, pandering accents.
Schneider also said he knew the election was “over” far before any votes were cast. 
“People are coming back over and saying, look, this is somebody we want to fix the problem,” Schneider said of Trump. “Just like you have a plumbing problem and there&#8217;s s*** everywhere. Well then, you need to get somebody  – you don&#8217;t have him staying for dinner. Donald Trump&#8217;s not going to come to your son&#8217;s bar mitzvah; he’s certainly not going to come for Thanksgiving, you don&#8217;t have to invite him. But he&#8217;s going to clean up: he&#8217;s going to do that, and you want him to do that.” 
Shapiro agreed, adding that Americans don’t need the president to be a “moral exemplar,” but a person who gets the job done.
“I have plenty of people in my life I look to when I&#8217;m out and when I&#8217;m looking for, you know, moral ways to live, and I&#8217;m looking for a piece of life advice,” Shapiro said. “When I want somebody to threaten Iran to back down, then I go to President Trump, when I want somebody who&#8217;s going to make sure that the gas prices aren&#8217;t too high.” 
The pair also discussed Schneider’s 2019 Hollywood cancellation.
“I said, ‘Californians would vote for a bowl of s*** if it had a ‘D’ next to it,’” Schneider recalled a tweet he posted. “And then that put the final nail in my Hollywood career.”

“I&#8217;m out. I don&#8217;t get hired in Hollywood,” he told Shapiro. “But there are some things more important than getting hired in Hollywood, and that is, I felt that we were close to having our rights taken away.”
“When they try to cancel you, when they do go after you and you think you will never work again … and you survive,” Schneider continued, “you do get emboldened. You think, what do I really wanna do? What do I really wanna say? And I&#8217;m not gonna be fearful anymore.”

Schneider added that he hopes he’s “helped people be slightly less fearful” and “be a voice for people who thought that they couldn&#8217;t critique Hollywood.” 
The actor repeatedly returned to free speech throughout the episode. Schneider said he felt we were “close” to losing that right, and much more. For example, he noted the political censorship that took place on social media, apparently done at the behest of the government, during the Biden administration. 
Speaking to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/when-it-comes-to-free-speech-rob-schneider-isnt-joking">The Daily Wire</a> in September, Schneider revealed that he felt compelled to write his book over that very issue. “We’re kind of f***ed as a country,” he said. “And so I do feel a responsibility, even though it cost me money and cost me work, I feel like it is my comedic-patriotic duty to at least bring these things to attention.”

When Rob Schneider calls you from the car, you can’t help but wonder where he’s going.
The set of Happy Gilmore 2? A Los Angeles comedy club? One of the few bars on the West Coast where they still let David Spade drink for free?
I never did learn where Schneider was headed during our conversation — we had bigger things to talk about. Things like the First Amendment, Saturday Night Live, the Khmer Rouge, vaccine mandates, Alexis de Tocqueveille, and Shane Gillis.
If you think that’s a random smattering of topics, you may not be ready for Schneider’s new book. “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/You-Can-Do-Speak-America/dp/1546007865">You Can Do It!: Speak Your Mind, America</a>,” is equal parts memoir, historical survey, and political polemic, all wrapped up in Schneider’s trademark irreverent humor. At times it feels like Schneider is trying to make the case for free speech through sheer force of will: his stream-of-consciousness narrative plows forward at a breakneck pace, flitting from childhood reminiscence to an exploration of Soviet propaganda and back to a funny Chris Farley anecdote all before you can say “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1Fk_mDem4o">makin’ copies!</a>”
That the book is funny isn’t surprising. After nearly a decade on Saturday Night Live, Schneider moved to the big screen, starring in hit films like “The Hot Chick” and “The Benchwarmers,” and making countless memorable appearances alongside his close friend and former SNL cast mate, Adam Sandler.
The humor is a given. It’s everything else that’s shocking.
Schneider is hardly the first celebrity to get political, nor the first to get in trouble for doing so. That he moved from left to right is a bit more shocking, but not without precedent. What’s truly strange about Schneider is just how seriously he’s taking his political turn. “You Can Do It!” doesn’t just have arguments — it has information. It has citations and statistics and digressions on Stanley Milgram and Mikhail Bulgakov. At times it feels more like a college lecture hall than a 30 Rock soundstage.
What made Deuce Bigelow get so serious?
“I got into show business to avoid having to do stuff like writing a book,” Schneider told The Daily Wire, adding that doing so was “a pain in the ass.” It was after witnessing the “egregious attack on our civil liberties and the attack on free speech” perpetrated by Democrats and their media allies that Schneider decided to pick up the pen. But even then, he didn’t lose his sense of humor.
“We&#8217;re kind of f***ed as a country,” Schneider said. “And so I do feel a responsibility, even though it cost me money and cost me work, I feel like it is my comedic-patriotic duty to at least bring these things to attention.”
The importance of protecting free speech may be the stated focus of “You Can Do It!” But Schneider’s understanding of this “comedic-patriotic duty” is perhaps the most essential — and certainly the most interesting — thread of the book.
“As de facto intellectuals, comedians are the cultural rearview mirrors,” Schneider writes. “Our jokes reflect the essence of a particular time, place, and attitude, to remind us of the context of where we just came from.”
This is why it felt so wrong when, following Donald Trump’s election in 2016, and then the coronavirus pandemic 2020, comedians by and large abandoned their craft and began echoing liberal talking points.
“I think the low watermark of comedy in the 21st century was late night television, with these hosts who all had interchangeable monologues,” Schneider told The Daily Wire.
“Nothing to me was more egregious than the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xP6c9UqPcU">dancing syringes</a> on Colbert&#8217;s show. That to me, it wasn&#8217;t cringe. It was Soviet bloc. It seems like something out of the Khmer Rouge.”
Schneider says the preservation of free speech in America depends in a large part on the flourishing of comedy — honest, equal-opportunity, no-holds-barred comedy.
“If you can get people to see the absurdity” of a given figure or issue, Schneider told The Daily Wire, “and mock it and laugh at it, it is the best way to move its natural path towards tyranny so that it collapses.
“When the public is comfortable laughing at the government, then they are no longer in fear of the government,” he said.
This is what makes Schneider’s activism so refreshing. Unlike many celebrities who jump in the arena, he doesn’t think his fame entitles him to serve as a moral arbiter for the rest of us. Rather, he sees himself as a member of the comedian class, a role that comes with a certain obligation to challenge authority and speak truth to power.
“I&#8217;m not saying I&#8217;m 100% right in these things,” he says, “but the fact is we need to have discourse, we need to not shout each other down.”
That humility doesn’t mean Schneider is pulling punches. He says that “the Democratic Party needs to lose this election — and maybe two or three more — so that they can regroup and become a political party that isn&#8217;t undemocratic and authoritarian.” Republicans, he tells The Daily Wire, “are going to have to put on their big boy pants and change legislation” should they win in November.
If this doesn’t happen — if Democrats keep power and continue their assault on free speech, or if Republicans win but resort to ad hominem attacks — Schneider worries about what will come next.
“Western civilization is committing suicide,” Schneider tells The Daily Wire, adding that “the United States is the last bastion of freedom in the world.”
“If we go, so goes the world,” he says. “There will be no Marines to rescue the United States from another country, there will be no food drop. There is no Marshall Plan for the United States. We are it.”
Dire as that sounds, Schneider has hope for the future of the country. His spirits are buoyed by, among other things: Mark Zuckerberg’s recent admission that the Biden-Harris administration pressured Facebook to censor content (“I don’t think Zuckerberg’s a bad actor”); Saturday Night Live’s decision to have Shane Gillis host after firing him for politically incorrect jokes (“How great was Lorne Michaels to do that?”); and The Daily Wire’s own Matt Walsh (“The one, rightful heir to Sacha Baron Cohen. I think Matt Walsh is a genius. I really do”).
But more than anything, Schneider is optimistic because he believes in America.
“This imperfect union was founded under God with a belief that we have done something special,” he says. “It is a union deserving of our forgiveness and deserving of our thanks, deserving of our gratitude and deserving of every attempt we can [make] for its preservation.”
To do that, “we must call out injustice. But in that call…we should have a reconciliation.”
“We have to be generous, and if our fault is that we are too generous, that is the price that we must pay, that is what this great nation calls upon us now to do,” Schneider says.
Before we spoke, I was ready for Schneider to go deep on all sorts of subjects — I had read the book, after all — but I wasn’t expecting such a serious meditation on American democracy. Thoroughly impressed and hoping for a good kicker, I asked Schneider if he had any parting thoughts he wanted to share. He didn’t even hesitate.
“The book’s also pretty funny.”

“Saturday Night Live” alum <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rob-schneider" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rob Schneider</a> has spent years saying what you’re not supposed to say in Tinsel Town.
Consider: Free speech matters. The Democratic Party has gone off the rails. The COVID vaccines aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
He even chatted with conservative firebrand <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Hc-x5RJpE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Glenn Beck</a> and headlined a Fox Nation comedy special, “Woke Up in America.” That’s a lot of liberal Hollywood no-nos for one artist.
To make matters worse, Schneider embraced the Democratic candidate threatening to make President Joe Biden a one-term leader, old-school liberal Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. 
The far-Left Rolling Stone, which no longer cherishes free speech as it did during its formative years, slammed the <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/rob-schneider-politics-conservative-anti-vaxxer-1234779419/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comic’s Red Pill transformation</a> earlier this year.
Still, Hollywood does allow some high-profile conservative actors to stay gainfully employed. And you can count their numbers on one hand. Chris Pratt. Jon Voight. Kelsey Grammer. Clint Eastwood. Tim Allen.
Surely, industry gatekeepers can fondly recall “The Hot Chick,” the “Grown Ups” franchise and, of course, “Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo” and keep Schneider in their plans.

What Schneider shared on X might have hurt any chances of continuing goodwill within the walls of Hollywood.
The 59-year-old weighed in on TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney, the trans female whose brief Bud Light sponsorship caused the brand to suffer a major sales collapse. One Tweet could sever his decades-long ties with La La Land.
“If you believe there is such a thing as ‘cultural appropriation.’ Then certainly this gentleman is guilty of ‘gender appropriation.’” Schneider said, referring to Mulvaney, on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

By the Left’s standards, the comic actor “misgendered” Mulvaney and accused the TikTok star of pretending to be a woman.
Right-leaning influencers have made similar arguments about Mulvaney, but they neither tour the country as a stand-up or regularly appear in comedy features.
Naturally, the tweet earned both praise and condemnation on social media, meaning plenty of people will have heard about it before the Outrage Machine moves on to a fresh topic.
The trans debate remains the third rail of Western culture. Say the wrong thing in the cultural discussion on the topic and future gigs could dry up. Just ask Roisin Murphy, the Irish singer who criticized puberty blockers before swiftly apologized for sharing the “wrong” opinion on the topic.
Murphy lost several gigs and her label <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12469639/Roisin-Murphy-cancelled-London-gigs-new-album-trans.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refuses to promote her new album</a>.
Rocker Dee Snider <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/well-said-80s-glam-rocker-dee-snider-backs-kiss-stars-controversial-statement-against-normalizing-child-sex-changes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> parents shouldn’t automatically transition their children if they share gender-fluid behavior, and a Pride event in San Francisco kicked the Twisted Sister alum off its planned event. Rock legend Carlos Santana similarly defied the trans community’s bullet points and quickly apologized. The most obvious example, of course, remains <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jk-rowling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">author J.K. Rowling.</a> She went from cultural darling to a pariah in some circles for deviating from a small part of the trans movement’s agenda.
Why would Schneider risk his professional hide for a hot take like this?
Schneider has said in the recent past that he has no choice but to speak his truth about the current state of affairs. He’s not dumb, though. He understands the ramifications for saying the “wrong” thing in an industry renowned for its progressive groupthink.
And he’s willing to roll the dice on his career.
That may explain his Fox Nation ties and recent attempts to work outside the Hollywood ecosystem. Last year, Schneider independently directed and starred in “Daddy Daughter Trip,” a kid-friendly romp starring his real-life daughter. 
Schneider plays a financially strapped Dad who uses his imagination to give his child the vacation of her dreams.
The film got very little attention in theaters (boxofficemojo.com doesn’t have any listing under Domestic Box Office) and isn’t available on any streaming platform or VOD service. Could this be connected to the star’s Right-leaning transformation? Or, it’s another sign of how challenging it can be to truly be an independent artist in this cultural space.
The comic actor has other films lined up for release, including “Pledge Trip” and “Dead Wrong,” but neither appear like the comedy blockbusters he once regularly churned out. He also will provide a voice for the upcoming Daily Wire pre-school series, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/watch/kids" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Chilla,</a>” part of the company’s aggressive foray into children’s entertainment.
And yet, Schneider still has close ties to mainstream Hollywood. Adam Sandler. 
The fellow “SNL” alum has tapped Schneider’s grab-bag of comic tricks for more than a dozen films over the years, including recent comedies like “The Wrong Missy,” “Sandy Wexler” and “Hubie Halloween.”

The parts range in size, but by keeping his professional bond with Sandler, Schneider&#8217;s odds of finding steady work and major exposure seem good. The feeling appears to be mutual.
Plus, Sandler remains one of the most powerful artists in Hollywood. He recently signed a four-movie deal worth $250 million. He regularly appears in comedy films for Netflix as well, including the recent “Murder Mystery 2” while simultaneously earning raves for dramatic work in films like 2019’s “Uncut Gems.”
Schneider may be transitioning to a new chapter in his storied career, one that exists outside the Hollywood gatekeepers but allows him to do, or say, whatever he pleases.
Having a few powerful friends support him along the way can only help.

Actor and comedian Rob Schneider called out trans-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney in a recent X post, suggesting that the &#8220;Days of Girlhood&#8221; creator was guilty of &#8220;gender appropriation.&#8221;
Schneider referenced the term &#8220;cultural appropriation&#8221; — which is often invoked by the political Left when people dress, act, or otherwise publicly partake in elements of a culture to which they were not born — Schneider argued that taking another&#8217;s gender for oneself amounted to the same thing.

Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines has taken a similar approach to conversations about her trans-identifying former competitor, <a href="https://twitter.com/Riley_Gaines_/status/1696121339562631325" target="_blank" rel="noopener">referring</a> to UPenn&#8217;s Lia Thomas as &#8220;the 6&#8217;4&#8243; male cosplaying as a woman.&#8221;

Schneider has been regularly targeted by the Left on social media since he came out against COVID-related mask and vaccine mandates, but <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-dont-care-about-my-career-rob-schneider-says-hes-absolutely-willing-to-lose-everything" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he said</a> during an interview with The Blaze founder Glenn Beck that he didn&#8217;t care.
&#8220;I’m not — I don’t care about my career anymore. I care about my children’s — the country they’re going to live in,&#8221; Schneider said, declaring that he was &#8220;absolutely&#8221; prepared to lose everything for what he believed.
Schneider has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/this-s-has-to-stop-comedian-rob-schneider-says-stop-making-girls-compete-against-trans-identifying-men" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoken out</a> on transgender issues before and has called on parents, coaches, and female athletes to “refuse to play against” male athletes who identify as female, saying this “s*** has to stop.”

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rob-schneider-doubles-down-i-prioritize-supporting-a-country-that-provides-the-same-freedoms-for-my-children" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rob Schneider</a> unloaded on the government in a lengthy social media post, arguing that politicians on both sides of the political aisle would eventually turn Americans and their children into &#8220;slaves&#8221; if they didn&#8217;t wake up to what was happening.

Schneider went on to say that it started with the children &#8212; and the fact that many were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/richard-dreyfuss-gave-up-acting-because-america-needed-saving-people-dont-understand-what-this-place-means" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no longer being taught</a> how their government was supposed to work or how they could influence the process.
&#8220;They took Civics out of Public schools,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;Because they don’t want you to know how your Government works. Because if you did, you might try to change things.&#8221;
&#8220;The Government wants us Fat, uneducated, sick, poisoned, and reliant on Government for handouts and pretending there’s a difference between the &#8216;Left and the Right,'&#8221; Schneider continued, pivoting to address the government and media colluding to control information. &#8220;And they want to control all the information that you get. Because they desperately don’t want you to think for yourself. So they work with Google and Facebook and Mainstream media to control and censor the information you receive and to discredit and demonize those that don’t go along and those that ask inconvenient questions.&#8221;
&#8220;The people controlling government: unelected conglomerates that decide what policies get written and who gets the trillions of dollars stay mostly hidden,&#8221; he added, referencing the people who quietly fund politicians in an attempt to control policy.

Schneider concluded with one last warning, saying that the final step in the process was for the government to disarm the populace &#8212; a move that he said would turn the people into slaves.
&#8220;The only thing that’s left for the Government to do now is to completely disarm us. When that happens, if they are able to disarm us, then it’s over. We will be slaves and our children will be slaves for a 100 years,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Have a nice afternoon!&#8221;

Actor and comedian Rob Schneider told country music star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/garth-brooks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Garth Brooks</a> this week that he should &#8220;just shut up&#8221; after finding himself embroiled in controversy after indicating that he will offer Bud Light at his bar when it opens later this summer.
During Brooks’ recent appearance on Billboard’s Country Live in Conversation, he appeared to take a shot at other country music artists who own bars, but are refusing to sell Bud Light over its decision earlier this year to have a paid marketing engagement with a controversial transgender influencer.
“Yes, we’re going to serve every brand of beer,” the singer said. “We just are. It’s not our decision to make. If you come into this house, love one another. If you’re an a**hole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway.”
“In my existence, one a**hole can turn the whole tide down there,” he added. “My thing is, let’s create a place that you feel safe in.”
Brooks later doubled down on his remarks, saying that inclusivity and diversity are what describes him.
“I get it, everyone’s got their opinions,” Brooks said. “But inclusiveness is always going to be me. I think diversity is the answer to the problems that are here. And the answer to the problems that are coming.”
Schneider <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rob-schneider-weighs-in-garth-brooks-bud-light-drama" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox Nation&#8217;s &#8220;Woke Up in America&#8221; that he thinks Brooks needs to be quiet and stay out of the drama in the future.
&#8220;I think next time, he&#8217;s going to stay out of it, isn’t he? I think Garth Brooks, next time, is going to shut his mouth, and he&#8217;s going to pretend like &#8216;I don&#8217;t have anything to do with what beer is chosen in my restaurant,’” Schneider said. &#8220;I think the culture is in a very weird little place of hypersensitivity one way or the other. And I think that&#8217;s why most people shut their mouths.&#8221;

Schneider&#8217;s observation came in response to yet another campus protest — this time at Portland State University — during which radical trans rights activists disrupted and shouted down speakers with whom they disagreed.
&#8220;Student activists at @Portland_State attempted to disrupt our public conversations today,&#8221; philosopher and author Peter Boghossian tweeted. He was on the campus alongside two other speakers for a discussion on whether or not minors were capable of consenting to puberty blockers and cross sex hormone treatments.
&#8220;I am genuinely embarrassed for the activists and disappointed that they prevented students with sincere objections from engaging us,&#8221; he added.

Boghossian knows Schneider&#8217;s sentiments all too well — in 2021 he left his post as a professor of philosophy at Portland State University after a decade, saying that his school had &#8220;sacrificed ideas for ideology&#8221; and that the more he had tried to push back against the tide, the more he was personally attacked.
&#8220;I never once believed —  nor do I now —  that the purpose of instruction was to lead my students to a particular conclusion. Rather, I sought to create the conditions for rigorous thought; to help them gain the tools to hunt and furrow for their own conclusions,&#8221; Boghossian wrote in a scathing <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/my-university-sacrificed-ideas-for" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resignation letter</a>.

The former &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; star recently talked about leaving the Democratic party because he said they are becoming more and more extreme in their views, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rob-schneider-reveals-which-democrat-pushed-him-over-the-edge-into-leaving-party-i-had-it-with-them">reported</a>.
&#8220;It shouldn&#8217;t be such a shock. Indie comics like Tyler Fischer, Ryan Long and Tim Dillon showed the power of alternative comedy buoyed by audiences eager for fresh laughs.
Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan and Ricky Gervais defied the Cancel Culture crowd for one more year.
Woke scolds Trevor Noah gave up his late-night throne while Samantha Bee’s basement-low ratings finally crushed her callous “Full Frontal” platform.
Still, most late-night monologues avoided the current Commander-in-Chief, “SNL” acted like a de facto arm of the Democratic party, and Hollywood failed to make a single comedy that could stand tall next to “The Hangover” or “Bridesmaids.”
What lies ahead in 2023?
More reasons for optimism despite a comedy culture that would rather support the status quo than question it.
John Cleese, once again, will lead by example. The Monty Python alum may be the most vocal opponent of woke comedy laws. And, at 82, he’s not willing to be silenced. His <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beware-the-wokes-monty-python-alum-defends-new-show-tackling-cancel-culture-and-new-authoritarians" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2023 program for GB News</a>, a right-leaning British channel, explores how what Elon Musk dubbed the “woke mind virus” is impacting funny business.
Best of all, Cleese is teaming with British comic Andrew Doyle for the untitled show. Doyle is not only a fervent critic of woke overreach but the mind behind Titania McGrath, Twitter’s funniest faux social justice warrior.
Chris Rock has gently pushed back against the woke mob in recent years. The “SNL” alum admitted he steers clear of college campuses to avoid crowds teeming with snowflakes.
Last year, he told Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” that <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/05/20/chris-rock-rips-cancel-culture-for-rise-in-boring-entertainment/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comedy got boring</a> when people started fearing the wrong joke would hurt their careers.
“I see a lot of unfunny comedians, I see unfunny TV shows, I see unfunny awards shows, I see unfunny movies — because everybody’s scared to make a move.”
And he <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/chris-rock-tweets-article-comedys-insufferable-wokeness-accused-insufficient-wokeness/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">caught heat for tweeting a story</a> from The Federalist extolling the apolitical glory of Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Still, <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/chris-rock-jimmy-fallon-cancel-culture/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rock stayed quiet</a> as the Cancel Culture mob came for Jimmy Fallon after a 20-year-old video of Fallon donning blackface to mimic Rock surfaced in 2020.
Rock’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chris-rock-announces-new-comedy-special-the-first-netflix-will-ever-stream-live" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upcoming comedy special</a> suggests he’s ready to tackle woke head-on. “Selective Outrage,” to be streamed live on Netflix March 4.
That title hints at the reams of material that’s yet to be mined in the mainstream, like how country crooner Morgan Wallen got canceled for uttering the “n-word” once, in private, while First Son Hunter Biden texted it aplenty sans consequences.
Will Rock go there? Can he afford not to at this point in the culture?
Movie comedies essentially hit a wall when woke took over Hollywood. Gone are the days when ribald romps like “Step Brothers,” “Superbad” or “Old School” made audiences howl.

The director of “There’s Something About Mary,” “Kingpin” and “Dumb and Dumber” vows a return to form with “Ricky Stanicky.” The upcoming comedy, which could earn a 2023 release date, follows a group of friends who blame their bad behavior on their rambunctious (but fictional) chum Ricky.
When their spouses demand to meet Ricky in the flesh, the buddies scramble to hire someone (John Cena) to play their farcical friend.
The Oscar-winner for “Green Book” thinks the time is right, and ripe, for a no holds barred romp. Again.
“That’s the opportunity now for somebody to break out with an R-rated comedy and the whole world is going to see it and they’re going to say, why can’t we have more of this? I miss them.”
Russell Brand starred in two such comedies – “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to the Greek.” Now, the British comic is red pilling viewers via his YouTube channel, which boasts north of 6.11 million subscribers.
The comedian tackles everything from American politics to pandemic overreach, and he does it while constantly thanking his fans for their support. That spirit, and his eagerness to leaven his punditry with laughter, makes him formidable in the new year, and beyond.
For those who prefer old-school stand up, three performers are hitting the road in 2023 promising woke-free entertainment.
British superstar Ricky Gervais has been pummeling Identity Politics along with Cleese for some time. It’s just jokes, he reminds us, and his 2022 Netflix special “SuperNature” proved he’s unafraid of his noisy critics.
He’ll be coming to some major American halls – the Hollywood Bowl and Radio City Music Hall in the new year, and there’s no chance he’ll be pulling his punches upon his arrival.
Few think of Jeff Dunham when the subject of woke comedy rears its ugly head. The ventriloquist quietly avoids those unwritten bylaws by following the funny wherever it may lead. That meant creating the “Fireside Shat” series mocking President Joe Biden and scolding <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/jeff-dunham-rips-fellow-comics-growing-political-comedians-pick-side?intcmp=tw_fnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">uber-partisan</a> comics (without naming names, but we know who they are) for putting clapter above joy.
Dunham will be touring the nation in 2023, along with a “SNL” alum who changed his brand to battle back against free speech suppression.
Rob Schneider’s early career yielded indelible characters (“SNL’s” Richmeister) and iconic film roles (“Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo”) alike. The left-leaning comic, pals with Cleese off-screen, is now one of the most vocal foes of speech suppression.
He weaponizes his Twitter feed to promote free speech issues and blast those eager to smite independent thought. He, too, will be on tour in 2023, and you won’t find him apologizing for past sketches or sandpapering down the rough edges of his material.

Academy Award winning actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/five-times-hollywood-defended-free-speech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tim Robbins</a> laid into two major actors unions on Tuesday, calling on them to put an end to their &#8220;discriminatory&#8221; COVID vaccine policies.
Robbins called out both SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild &#8211; American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) and Actors Equity, and said that it was &#8220;way past time&#8221; for the unions to abandon vaccine mandates, citing the New York Supreme Court <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/new-york-supreme-court-strikes-down-nyc-vaccine-mandate-for-all-city-workers-reinstates-employees-orders-back-pay/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruling</a> that reinstated New York City workers whose jobs had been terminated when they did not comply with the city&#8217;s vaccine requirements.
&#8220;Hey @sagaftra and @actorsequity : Way past time to end your discriminatory politics. NY Supreme Court just ruled that all unvaccinated NYC employees are &#8216;reinstated to their full employment&#8217; and are &#8216;entitled to back pay in salary from the date of termination.’”

Robbins continued with a quote from Staten Island Judge Ralph J. Porzio, who said in his ruling, &#8220;Being vaccinated does not prevent an individual from contracting or transmitting COVID-19. As of the day of this Decision, CDC guidelines regarding quarantine and isolation are the same for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.&#8221;
Porzio&#8217;s decision came in part because New York City had made exceptions to the vaccine policy for athletes and performers — he said that the city&#8217;s insistence on keeping the mandate in place for sanitation workers was &#8220;arbitrary and capricious,&#8221; adding that if the mandate was truly about health and safety, there would be no exemptions.
The city has already announced <a href="https://abc7ny.com/covid-vaccine-nyc-mandate/12376163/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plans to appeal</a> the decision, according to a spokesman from the legal department. &#8220;The city strongly disagrees with this ruling as the mandate is firmly grounded in law and is critical to New Yorkers&#8217; public health. We have already filed an appeal. In the meantime, the mandate remains in place as this ruling pertains solely to the individual petitioners in this case. We continue to review the court&#8217;s decision, which conflicts with numerous other rulings already upholding the mandate.&#8221;

Actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rob-schneider" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rob Schneider</a> claims <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bill-murray" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill Murray</a> wasn’t amused by him or several other big-time <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/comedy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">comedians</a> back in their “Saturday Night Live” days.
Schneider recalled the details during a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s &#8220;The Jim Norton &amp; Sam Roberts Show,” Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/rob-schneider-bill-murray-absolutely-hated-snl-cast-particularly-adam-sandler-chris-farley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“[Murray] wasn’t very nice to us,&#8221; the “Grown Ups” alum said of his former co-star. &#8220;He hated us on ‘<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/saturday-night-live" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saturday Night Live</a>’ when he hosted. Absolutely hated us. I mean, seething.&#8221;
&#8220;He hated Chris Farley with a passion. Like he was just seething looking at him,&#8221; Schneider continued. He speculated that may have been because Murray was friends with the late John Belushi, who Farley emulated. 
&#8220;I don’t know exactly, but I want to believe that it’s because Chris thought it was cool to be Belushi, who [was] his friend who he saw die, that he thought it was cool to be that out of control. That’s my interpretation, but I don’t really know. I don’t believe it. I only believe it 50 percent.&#8221;
Schneider said again that Murray &#8220;just hated, like, all of us pretty much&#8221; but said &#8220;the least of the hate was to me.&#8221;
&#8220;I took great pleasure in that he hated me less, because he&#8217;s my hero,&#8221; he explained, before describing Murray’s demeanor as “naked rage.” He said Murray was kind to fans and non-actors but despised fellow comedians at “SNL” when he guest hosted, including Adam Sandler.
Schneider explained that he &#8220;couldn&#8217;t say exactly what it was&#8221; but Murray &#8220;just wasn’t into that groove of it, you know? 
&#8220;And Sandler was just committed to it, and just like, as soon as he would get on, you could see the audience just ate him up,&#8221; the actor said.
Murray was part of the main “SNL” cast from 1977 through 1980 and guest hosted various shows after that. The publication noted that Murray was a guest host in 1993 when Schneider, Sandler, and Farley were all part of the main cast.
Meanwhile, Murray has been dealing with negative press as his most recent movie “Being Mortal” was forced to shut down when a crew member accused the 72-year-old actor of sexual misconduct. The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-murrays-alleged-sexual-misconduct-details-which-led-to-movie-shutdown-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Murray was allegedly “kissing” and “straddling” the “much younger” woman on set. She and the actor entered mediation and reached a settlement of $100,000. 
“I did something I thought was funny, and it wasn’t taken that way,” Murray said in April of the incident. “The company, the movie studio, wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out, investigate it, and so they stopped the production.”
“And I feel like if I don’t see that, you know, the world is different than it was when I was a little kid,” he continued. “You know, what I always thought was funny as a little kid isn’t necessarily the same as what’s funny now. Things change and the times change, so it’s important for me to figure it out.”
