The New York Times, a former newspaper, recently ran a story with this headline: “Men, Where Have You Gone? Please Come Back.” The sub-headline was: “So many men have retreated from intimacy, hiding behind firewalls, filters and curated personas, dabbling and scrolling. We miss you.”
Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “Oh, Klavan, you smoking hot hunk of hilarity, a joke is a joke, but do you really expect us to believe that that was a headline in the same former newspaper that has spent the last forty years denigrating men and marriage and promoting a sexual culture of such degrading perversion that it could only be intended to cause even a fully operational male to recoil horrified from sexual communion as if he were Ben Affleck in the moment he suddenly realized he had left the really nice Jennifer for the Jennifer with the admittedly spectacular body but with the kind of personality that could make even a fully operational male recoil horrified from sexual communion as if he’d spent the last forty years reading the New York Times?&#8221; And okay, sure, even I’ve forgotten where that sentence began, but the point is, no, I’m not making this up.
This article wondering why men had retreated from intimacy into a world of solitary stimulation utterly devoid of emotional content was written by Rachel Drucker, a woman who spent part of her career working for Playboy and its affiliated hard core porn outlets, enticing men to retreat from intimacy into a world of solitary stimulation utterly devoid of emotional content. She writes (and this is a real quote, I’m still not even making stuff up yet): “I remember when part of heterosexual male culture involved showing up with a woman to signal something — status, success, desirability. Women were once signifiers of value, even to other men. That dynamic has quietly collapsed.”
So — baffled by this mystery — the New York Times did what they usually do in such circumstances: they sent their reporters to find out what men think, by interviewing women.

For instance, they spoke with Karen Screamy-Hate-Face, President of the Society for Harridans who are Intolerably Loud, or S-H-R-I-L. Ms. Screamy-Hate-Face said, “I can’t for the life of me figure out why I can’t get a date with one of these toxic snakes. I’ve got the pink hat, all the right tattoos and plenty of insight on how to make men be better than they are. What do those bastards want from me? Tenderness?”
The Times also interviewed the holder of the Guinness Book World Record for highest body count, Karen Spikenose, who told them, “Frankly, I think most men are just too sexually insecure. They’re always afraid I’m going to compare them to all the men I slept with yesterday. But really, I’m the sort of girl who usually takes each man separately. It’s more time-consuming, but I feel it makes for a more intimate seven minutes.”
And they interviewed divorce attorney Karen Crotchfangs, who told us, “I just think men don’t know what they really want. They say they want a feminine girl like me who gets all made up for a date and wears pretty dresses and lets them pay for dinner, but then the minute they see my penis they run for the hills. Sometimes without even finishing their drink.”
In the end, however, despite its considerable reportorial power, the New York Times somehow could not solve the mystery of why men no longer feel that women add value to their lives.
Now, part of our job here at the Daily Wire is to bring you the kind of material that outlets like the New York Times simply can’t provide. Like journalism. So we immediately sent our reporters out into the field, and when they didn’t come back from the field but simply went prancing off across the grass picking flowers and weaving garlands of daisies for one another’s heads, we sent out some more reporters to interview a prominent man on why he had retreated from intimacy. Unfortunately, the man just kept sobbing violently and crying out, “What was I thinking? I could have had the nice Jennifer!”

It’s been a rather ignominious couple of weeks for liberal women on the internet. Of course it’s been an ignominious last several decades for liberal women in general — on the internet or otherwise. But these past couple of weeks have given us one viral moment after another where this demographic is thoroughly embarrassing itself. For the sake of brevity, I won’t even include all of the many videos of liberal women vandalizing Teslas and shrieking at their drivers. The anti-Tesla brigade is, after all, almost exclusively women and gay men. These two groups also make up the core of the Democratic voting base. We’ll get back to that point in a moment.
But leaving the Tesla chaos to the side for now, this latest rash of viral humiliation started two weeks ago with footage of an altercation between a woman and a young man on a New York City subway. The woman was upset about the young man’s MAGA hat, which she demanded that he remove from his head. She attempted to take matters into her own hands. But the problem is that she apparently has all the speed and agility of a baby panda. Watch:

That was the glorious sight of the woman chasing a young man to steal his MAGA hat, only to trip and face-plant in the middle of the subway station. Thanks to some crack reporting from the New York Post, we now know that this woman’s name is Alberta Testanero and she is a “luxury brand specialist.” Which is exactly the kind of nonsense job that you’d expect a liberal woman in New York to have. I don’t even know what a “luxury brand specialist” does, but I know that this woman seems like the type to do it, whatever it is.
The following week, a woman who appears to be in her late 60s or 70s went viral with this public service announcement about her dating life:

I know there are a lot of single young men out there who feel incredibly demoralized by the dating scene. If you’re in that category, I don&#8217;t mean to add to your frustrations. But if you’re looking for an elderly feminist grandma — if that’s your type — I’m sad to say there’s one less fish in the sea available to you. Unless you aren’t white. Then you might still have a chance. 
At the same time, another video has been making the rounds. This is a significantly younger woman named Zoe, telling the story of how she broke up with her boyfriend because he committed the unforgivable sin of being Republican:

She broke up with him. That’s the end of the story. Why any man would ever date a woman like this in the first place is the greater mystery. Everything about her is aggressively unappealing. She’s the human embodiment of nails on a chalkboard.
She’s the type of woman who would no doubt describe herself as having a “big personality,” because she’s loud and obnoxious and uses the f-word a lot. But in truth she has no personality at all. She has an anti-personality. She speaks in internet lingo and has all of the mannerisms and affectations — not to mention the value system and political beliefs — of every other 20-something woman on TikTok. She professes the value of “doing your own research” but, I can guarantee, has never done anything resembling research in her life. Her research consists of watching TikTok videos.

That said, she’s not wrong about her basic point: The relationship wasn’t going to work. It wasn’t going to work because their values were not aligned — to the extent that either one of them have values at all. And it wasn’t going to work because she is a raging narcissist and a deeply unpleasant person, who, barring some kind of miraculous personal transformation, will never have a functional and meaningful romantic or even platonic relationship with another human being in her life.
We joke about the fact that these kinds of women are always cat ladies. Indeed, in a follow up video this woman confirmed that she does have at least one cat. But the cat lady thing isn’t really a joke. There’s a reason why liberal women really do almost always end up alone with their cats. They prefer cats because cats require almost nothing from them. Change the litter box and pour some more food in the bowl, and that is the extent of the work and effort you have to put into your relationship with your cat. Feminists love cats because cats provide some measure of affection and fellowship without needing much of anything in return. No need for sacrifice or compromise or personal improvement. Successful human relationships require those things. A relationship with your cat does not. Of course the trade off is that you’ll never have anything approaching the depth of love and companionship that you could have with another person. You’ll also never have a family or children. You’ll die alone and your cherished cat will eat your carcass without a second thought.
Anyway, there is one more video in this tour. The singer Chappell Roan appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast. As we know, Call Her Daddy is the number one podcast in the world for women. Which is a troubling fact, because the show, like its host Alex Cooper, is insipid, gross, and morally and intellectually bankrupt. It’s mostly just 95 IQ women sitting around talking about sex. There’s a reason you’ve never seen a viral clip from this show where someone says something interesting or intellectually provocative. The Joe Rogan podcast &#8212; the number one podcast in the world for men — has those kinds of moments all the time. Joe frequently talks to archeologists, astronomers, biologists, and all manner of interesting people about a wide range of academic, political, and cultural topics. Alex Cooper talks to women about sex. And that’s pretty much it.

People with kids don’t have light in their eyes, says the dead-eyed consumerist zombie. The two dullest, least vibrant women you’ve ever seen in your life are concerned that people with kids don’t have light in their eyes.
Needless to say, Chappell is completely wrong. It’s not entirely her fault. I’m sure she probably does have some young mothers in her life who constantly complain about their kids. This is one of the dangers of venting, and why all of us — women especially, who are much more inclined to vent — should be doing a lot less of it. Using someone else as a sounding board for all of your frustrations is selfish, and enormously unpleasant and frankly pretty boring for the person forced to listen to your litany of complaints. Even worse, if that person is not in the same stage of life, you will be giving them a skewed, unfairly bleak impression of it. That’s why parents should only complain — if they’re going to complain at all — to each other. But mostly they should just stop complaining. It’s not that we’re trying to hide some deep, dark secret from the childless. It’s that a childless person has no context. They might not understand that, although you’re annoyed that your toddler woke you up at 4:00 am,  you are still filled with deep, abiding joy that you have a child to wake you up at all. It is possible to hold frustration and joy in your heart at the same time. But that is a depth that someone like Chappell Roan has never reached, cannot understand, and likely will never reach nor understand.
The point is that getting married and having kids will increase the daily annoyances and inconveniences in your life by a very sizable margin. But it also increases — not just increases, but reveals for the first time — a kind of meaning and purpose that you never had before. Meaningful pursuits will always increase your annoyances and inconveniences. Which is why you will never do anything meaningful in your life at all if your primary goal is to avoid inconvenience. Embrace inconvenience, or live a pointless, empty life. Those are your two options. There is no third option.
Of course, the opinion of some random pop star wouldn’t matter at all if they were being expressed in a vacuum. Unfortunately, they’re part of a much larger pattern, and a much grander agenda. All of the videos we’ve talked about are part of — or a result of — that agenda. In fact they represent the great cultural battle that will define and determine our future. That is the effort to convince women to abandon marriage and family life. The feminist agenda. Which of course isn’t new. But now it lies at the core of nearly all of our political and cultural divisions. As most people know at this point, the Democrat Party’s core constituency by far is unmarried women. Even in the last election, a landslide loss for Kamala Harris, she still won unmarried women by a margin of 61% to 38%. The continued existence of the Democrat Party, and their entire political program, rests on this demographic.
I’m not saying that Chappell Roan or Zoe from TikTok are paid agents of the Democrat Party, sent to go out into the world and convince women to reject marriage and family life. Although, who knows, they might be. What I am saying is that we’re about to see a whole lot more of this kind of messaging. This is the future of the culture war, and its past. And we have to be ready to fight back.

Model Vittoria Ceretti gave a rare interview detailing her relationship with Hollywood A-lister Leonardo DiCaprio.
The Italian model, 26, has been romantically linked to DiCaprio, 50, since August 2023. She shared some tidbits about their relationship in a new cover story interview for <a href="https://www.vogue.fr/article/interview-vittoria-ceretti-vogue-france-avril-2025">Vogue France&#8217;s</a> April 2025 issue, per the translated version of the original article in French.
When asked how the couple met, Ceretti replied, “In Milan. But I prefer not to go into details.” The model confirmed that she had seen the massively popular film “Titanic” (1997), which DiCaprio starred in. “Who hasn&#8217;t seen it? Or didn&#8217;t like it? It&#8217;s an iconic film,” she answered.
Next, Ceretti revealed the “annoying” thing about dating someone as famous as her current boyfriend. “As soon as you&#8217;re in a relationship with someone who has a larger following than you, you become ‘girlfriend of’—or ‘boyfriend of,’ for that matter. And that can be extremely annoying,” she told the outlet. 
“Suddenly, people are talking about you as so-and-so&#8217;s girlfriend who was so-and-so&#8217;s ex. So it&#8217;s not nice to think that you can&#8217;t love whoever you want, because of the labels people need to stick on you,” she added.
When the interviewer mentioned how difficult it must be to date “one of the most desired people in the world,” Ceretti responded, “It&#8217;s something you learn. If what you&#8217;re experiencing is real, if you know you love each other, then there&#8217;s no reason to be alarmed. Because love protects and gives confidence.”
The interviewer noted that Ceretti gave a “big smile of relief” after he stopped asking “boyfriend questions.”
DiCaprio has never been married and is known for dating much younger models. He’s been romantically linked to Gisele Bündchen, Gigi Hadid, and Camila Morrone, among others, and all of these relationships have been kept very private.
There’s been a joke circulating about how the actor refuses to date women older than 25. DiCaprio seemingly broke his own rule by staying with Ceretti after she <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/leonardo-dicaprio-breaks-dating-rule-1909560">turned 26</a> last June, as many people pointed out on social media.

Golf legend Tiger Woods has confirmed his rumored relationship with Vanessa Trump, the former daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump.
The 49-year-old made the announcement on both Instagram and X following months of speculation that the two were secretly dating. &#8220;Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! Vanessa Trump was married to Donald Trump Jr. from 2005 until they divorced in 2018. The two had five children together during that time.
Vanessa and Don Jr&#8217;s oldest daughter, Kai Trump, is 17 and attends the same school in Florida as Woods&#8217; two children, Sam and Charlie. Kai is an avid golfer and will play at the University of Miami in 2026. 
Woods and Vanessa have been spotted at various golf events together, as their kids have been involved in the same junior competitions for the last few months. President Trump’s eldest granddaughter competed in an invitational golf tournament against Charlie Woods last week, per <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/tiger-woods-confirms-relationship-vanessa-trump-president-trumps-forme-rcna197741">NBC News</a>.
Woods has two children with his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, who he was married to from 2004 until they divorced in 2010 following a sex scandal for which he publicly apologized. The five-time Masters champion was also romantically linked to Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn.
President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Woods in a ceremony at the White House in 2019.

In the past nine years, there have been three presidential elections, 6 congressional elections, and 35 different iPhone models.
Yet, in that same amount of time, one former Purdue University student has been stuck in limbo, unable to end a nightmare that began all those years ago.
<h3>The Allegations</h3>
During the fall semester of 2015, a male student whom The Daily Wire will refer to as John Doe began dating a female student referred to in court documents as Jane Doe. The relationship was okay for a while, but on December 13, 2015, Jane threatened to commit suicide in front of John by standing on the ledge of a parking garage after throwing objects around her dorm room and crying while saying she hated life. After this incident, according to John’s eventual lawsuit against Purdue reviewed by The Daily Wire, all sexual activity between the two ceased.
In early January 2016, John reported Jane’s suicide attempt to Purdue, and shortly after, she began to pull away from the relationship and the two went their separate ways. Four months later, and only after Purdue’s highly marketed Sexual Assault Awareness Month events, Jane accused John of sexually assaulting her during their relationship.
John received notice of the accusations on April 11, 2016. Jane claimed she awoke one night to John groping her. She told him it was not okay. John told her at some point before that incident that he digitally penetrated her while she was sleeping. He said he felt bad about the first incident but proceeded to the second incident anyway. Jane became upset at John over these incidents and left his room. John had also gone through her underwear in her laundry, and had once chased her down the hall, joking about tasing her. After they had broken up, he also continued to go to her room unannounced. She claimed John had a temper he couldn’t control as well.
John vehemently denies Jane’s allegations, stating in his lawsuit that he responded to the allegations by informing Purdue that he never groped her in her sleep in November 2015, but that in mid-December of that year, after her suicide attempt, she slept on a futon in his dorm room while he slept on the floor. At some point in the night, John accidentally touched her knee and she began freaking out before leaving the room. John also said he never had any sexual contact with her while she was asleep, and therefore never told her that he did. He added that he never went through her laundry but sometimes did her laundry for her and never threatened to tase Jane. He also noted that the two never formally broke up, they simply began seeing each other less, and that he merely went to her room to return an item. At that time, she told him not to go to her room, so he didn’t.
John provided evidence that Jane continued to shower him with affection even after these alleged incidents, demonstrating behavior not in line with someone who had been sexually assaulted. She continued to text with John over the holidays, wished him a Happy Christmas Eve, and sent him a package of homemade cookies for his family. She also invited him to her room at the beginning of the spring 2016 semester.

In addition, John provided Purdue with evidence that it was Jane who had the temper and tried to project that onto John. She often contemplated running away and not returning to the school as well. John also provided a list of more than 30 names to substantiate his reputation, since Jane attacked his character and credibility in her allegations.
Purdue’s policy did not allow John to review the investigator’s prepared report, nor was he provided a hearing to determine the credibility of Jane’s claims. John maintains in his lawsuit that his “ability to defend himself was severely and unfairly prejudiced.”
Instead of a hearing, a three-person panel reviewed John’s case. Jane never appeared before the panel and instead provided a statement written by Purdue’s Title IX coordinator. In that statement, Jane only requested that John be removed from Purdue’s Navy ROTC program, of which they were both members. Jane’s new boyfriend at the time was also a member. Jane stated that she didn’t fear John on campus and merely wanted him out of the ROTC.
Without any evidence corroborating Jane’s claims, John was suspended from Purdue and had to leave the Navy ROTC program. He appealed the decision, but was denied without adequate explanation, so he filed a lawsuit against the university as many students have done in the past decade.
<h3>The Lawsuit</h3>
John dreamed of becoming a Navy SEAL officer, but says he can’t get a federal job with this on his record. His Title IX case is the longest ongoing case of its kind, with the closest similar case lasting seven years and ending in a disappointing motion to dismiss for the wrongly accused student.
“Purdue&#8217;s wrongful suspension of me closed all federal &amp; military employment opportunities because I was employed with the Navy through their ROTC program at the time of the suspension, which forced me to ‘resign’ with the Navy after my school suspension was finalized,” John told The Daily Wire in an email.
“Expungement of my school disciplinary file would give me an opportunity to fix my [Department of Defense] record, which currently makes me look bad due to the circumstances and thus limits my employment opportunities. For reference, I was a 4.0 GPA varsity athlete when I graduated high school, and double majoring with a minor while employed with the Navy ROTC at Purdue. My longtime dream was to become a Navy SEAL officer. The derailment of my life by Purdue was severe, to say the least.”
The case has persisted due the slow nature of the justice system, numerous filings and responses from both parties, and appeals to higher courts. The case even landed on the desk of Judge Amy Coney Barrett before she was nominated for the Supreme Court. Barrett, who was with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019, upheld John’s claims that Purdue violated his due process and Title IX rights. Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex, and accused students have said they are discriminated against as males when they are falsely accused and a school takes no steps to protect them.
When the case was sent back to a lower court, a judge dismissed John’s due process claim. John is trying to get the court to reinstate that claim and has had the judge who dismissed it replaced. The next stage of this case is a trial on the Title IX claim alone, which could result in what John ultimately wants: This whole thing to be expunged from his record.
After nine years of litigation, John’s family has spent more than $350,000 on legal bills, draining their savings and 401ks. He is currently working to set up a fundraiser to continue fighting Purdue’s persecution.

<h3>Purdue’s Response</h3>
In a statement to The Daily Wire, Purdue University chief spokesperson Erin Murphy said the school rejected John’s assertions of unfairness toward him.
“Most of [John’s] claims were dismissed long ago,” Murphy said, referring to the multiple claims students include in lawsuits hoping at least one will be accepted.
“His single remaining claim has been ready for trial for years. [John] insists on going to trial, but his lawyers have caused delays. Some of his lawyers quit his case in June 2023 after the last settlement conference,” Murphy continued. “[John] has publicly criticized those former lawyers. His remaining lawyer has filed repeated demands for a different judge, which were rejected by multiple courts, including the United States Supreme Court. His remaining lawyer has also required trial postponements for personal reasons that are shown in the court record.”
Those “delays” refer to John and his attorney attempting to get a new judge assigned to the case due to allegations of unfairness and a pro-Purdue bias. There is a new judge overseeing the case, as the previous judge was promoted by the Biden administration.
John’s attorneys did not quit on him, and the “public criticism” Murphy refers to is a testimonial on his attorney’s website saying that the attorney left his previous law firm “after partners at the firm tried to strong-arm” John’s case from him.
Finally, the “personal reasons” Murphy alludes to at the end of her statement refers to the attorney’s cancer diagnosis. John’s attorney has been battling cancer while fighting for his client.

Love is a deep and profound concept, both at an individual level and in society at large. Though a marriage based on companionship and attraction was not a readily accepted idea until, arguably, the Victorian era, the first marriage ceremony took place over 4,000 years ago. The evolving and historical practice of marriage — and love’s role in it — is perhaps most easily mapped through literature, as it reflects societal norms of its time. To name a few, both Plato (428-348 BC) and Aristotle (384-322 BC) parsed thoughts on love, the book of Numbers tells of Zimri and Cozbi’s story (and subsequent demise), William Shakespeare constructed an entire play around star-crossed lovers with “Romeo and Juliet” (1597), C.S. Lewis drew on the Greeks and Christian commentators&#8217; thoughts to describe the types of love in “The Four Loves” (1960), and the “Twilight” series spent 274 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list in the early 2000s.
The stories of star-crossed lovers — Zimri and Cozbi, Romeo and Juliet among them — have enticed people to believe and even engage in relationships set up for failure, usually in the name of passion. After all, no records document Zimri and Cozbi as married, and Romeo and Juliet knew each other for all of 24 hours before their marriage ceremony. But what of relationships set up for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">success</a>? Vampire Edward and human Bella certainly seemed to be on a star-crossed path headed for doom, but they took matters into their own hands, setting themselves up for success. They found a way to make their relationship work “till death do us part” — or, in their case, for the long haul of immortality.
In more recent years, Dr. Jordan B. Peterson has contributed to history’s collection of tales on love and marriage, the most obvious of which being <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his series “Marriage”</a> in which he draws on both his clinical and personal experiences. In it, he teaches how to avoid a star-crossed path and, instead, pursue one that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leads to fulfillment</a>. Love is a complex notion. It takes a brilliant mind to discuss the role of one’s values in the act of love, to acknowledge the extent to which it affects consciousness, and to analyze how love can be applied practically in life. As an acclaimed clinical psychologist, author, educator, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, Dr. Peterson is that mind. Yet he is not of mind only. He is one of heart. Peterson approaches the subject of love as a father and husband, having married his wife in 1989 (two years before earning his PhD in clinical psychology). Even after all he has accomplished in his career, he still proclaims his marriage, his intimate relationship, to be the best part of his life.
You can divide your life into thirds: an intimate relationship (that is, marriage), family, and career — according to Peterson’s rule of thumb. In the present day, society generally views the trajectory of love between significant others as one which culminates in marriage. He believes a “profound and properly integrated and oriented intimacy” is found in the state of marriage, with love being a beautiful and foundational element to it. And he addresses love as both a verb and a noun. Merriam-Webster defines love as a verb meaning “to hold dear; to feel passion, devotion, or tenderness for; to take pleasure in; to touch or handle in a tender or loving manner.” The noun “love” is defined, “as in affection; darling; liking.” Essentially, marriage is an opportunity to act out love reciprocally in relation to the person with whom you have fallen in love.
In his “Marriage” series, Peterson parses thoughts on love in marriage, describing love as:
<h3>A Permeated State</h3>
Love is a “grace, a gift of God,” and when you fall in love, you experience what it is like to care for someone and receive care in return. When you enter into marriage, you engage in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an act of faith</a>. In a marriage, you are given an opportunity, a chance to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrange your life</a> with the person you have fallen in love. Then the “state of love” permeates the relationship and all that you do together.
<h3>Continual</h3>
Your conscience is an indicator of behavior. One way of learning how to pay attention to your conscience (i.e., behavior) is by devoting yourself to another person within the confines of marriage. In marriage, your conscience becomes an indicator of behavior in relationship to your partner in the long run. Since you will be with your husband or wife for years of your life, you have to treat them in a manner that is “reciprocal and productive, that grows positively over decades.” A productive, positive, decades-long relationship is made up of moment-to-moment interactions, and it is from these moments that continual love blossoms in a relationship. And you have the opportunity to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">improve yourself</a> in relation to your partner.
<h3>An Infinite Wellspring Of Mystery</h3>
When you fall in love with someone, Peterson explains that you see an infinite wellspring of mystery. It is granted as a gift, a gift you are willing to devote yourself wholeheartedly. Together, you can foster that infinite wellspring to continually pour forth. Sometimes, people think they are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bored with their partner</a>, but Peterson clarifies this, explaining that they are usually bored because of what they have forced the other person to become or because of their own lack of creative imagination on the intimate front. After all, people are infinite mysteries.
<h3>The Precondition For Marriage</h3>
Falling in love with someone is the precondition for marriage. You find them attractive, then you fall in love — both of which Peterson says are worthy of gratefulness. Your long-term partner is significantly more interesting than any plethora of short-term, shallow relationships, and life with an intimate relationship (marriage) is far more fulfilling than walking through life alone. The caveat? Living together is not commitment enough because “trying someone out” before marrying them — the equivalent of giving them a trial run — still allows for an option to leave. True commitment begins when you formally and publicly ally and bind yourselves <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">together</a>.
<h3>Support During The Worst Times Of Life</h3>
Once married, you will go through the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/show/success" target="_blank" rel="noopener">worst times</a> of your life with your husband or wife. But you are better situated to survive those times with a companion who loves you. When the storms come, you are part of a joint arc because you are committed to each other in a fundamental manner. You can share in contending with the harsh realities of all dimensions of life.
In the end, you can be oriented toward love and life more abundant. But how do you know you are in love? How do you know you can be married? How do you know you are ready? Peterson’s answer is: You don’t know. You decide. That is the act of faith.

I quite like this. Art is supposed to make you see. That is what the purpose of art is. Joseph Conrad wrote that the scientist has one job, the thinker has another, some deal in facts, some deal in ideas; but the primary role of an artist is to make you see something.
Morgan Wallen does this right at the beginning. He is calling your attention to something — something we can all recognize but, at the same time, are probably not all that conscious of — which is that, sometimes, our loved ones react differently when they are in a group than when it is just us. We fall into our ruts and our routines. But when they are in a group, they do not behave the same way. Instead, they behave and react a little differently, and we recognize the old person, the way they once behaved with us. Many people have probably had this experience before, and Wallen calls your attention to that in this song. That is artistic.
I like the image he describes in the chorus: It was good to see you smile. You haven’t really smiled like that with me in a while, but it was good to see you smile. Is it because we are just having fun in this bar? Is it because this is what we used to do, and we don’t really do it anymore? Or, is it simply artifice? Is it because we are about to take a picture so your muscle memory just went right back to that old smile? Is it just a habit? What is it? What that real? Is there really hope that we might recover something that has been lost that is desirable? Or are you just going through the motions? Is that just an artifact of your former self — and really there is no hope?

His conclusion makes a good point about behavior, about how human beings really work. It implicitly addresses the question of if an action should not be performance-motivated, driven by pure and authentic desire. Or, can you “fake it til you make it”? If you just smile enough, will you eventually become happy? Wallen’s conclusion is: It doesn’t really make much of a difference to me. It was nice to see you smile anyway.
Then, Wallen sings the last couplet: “If someone were to see this they’d think everything’s alright / At least we got a pretty little moment frozen in time.” Everyone knows couples like this, couples who post pictures on Instagram looking so in love. They are all smiles in their really happy, cute photo. But because you know the behind-the-scenes, you know their life is a complete disaster and they are always at each other’s throats.
He reminds us that appearances can be beguiling. Images are beguiling. When an artist calls your attention to that, they are often calling your attention to something about their own art. Here, Morgan Wallen is dealing with moving pictures, with images he is creating in your mind that happiness, joy, and a flourishing life are not about a moment frozen in time. Anyone can fake a moment or experience an accidental smile. He is emphasizing that what matters is the course of one’s life.
A human life moves through time so flourishing occurs through time. We live in this snapshot culture that denies time. We live in the Insta-culture, the “smile for the camera” culture. But the more we focus on that artifice and the ephemeral, fleeting little smile, the more likely we are to come back to our dressing room and our lady is gone, as he does. This song sends the message that you have to reorient how you think about life.

Relationship TikTok loves to engage in debates, the most recent of which involves the post-breakup period. The debate at hand is one everyone faces after a subsequent heartbreak: Is no contact the best route? In other words, what do you do after a breakup? Do you speak? Do you ever see each other? Or, do you bid your now-ex significant other a fond farewell, never to be seen again?
Some say a clean break is the only way to move forward, but others argue keeping the door open allows for the possibility of getting back together. One Canadian TikToker, Chris (@chrispoletek), who often talks about dating, shared what goes through men’s minds after a breakup with no contact. He starts, “Ladies, this is how men feel during no contact. I’ve spoke with my friends many times about their no contact experiences.”

Then, he explains their conversations fall into two buckets. In the first, the guy realizes he actually didn’t like the girl that much because he “forgets that they exist,” a clear indicator he just wasn’t that into her. In the second bucket, the guy has the exact opposite realization and sees he misses her. So Chris concludes that if you don’t miss the person, you shouldn’t respond if they reach out. If, on the other hand, you realize you do miss the person, breaking no contact might be best because “it could be worth exploring.”
These don’t seem to be revolutionary thoughts, and they definitely are not bound to men. In the comments, one guy admitted to missing his ex at first and then forgetting all about her not even a week later. And one girl mentioned that women feel the same way, which of course is true. This is all just part of the human experience.

However, this is much more a contemporary problem than it was a problem in generations past. A few decades ago, a clean break would have been much easier because you couldn’t check anyone’s social media to see where they are, what they’re up to, or who they’re hanging out with. You couldn’t even take a photo on demand, let alone send a late night text. You just moved on. Or, you went to great lengths to get back with the person — like a grand gesture flying across the country and showing up with flowers. (Yes, that happened to my mom. No, she didn’t take him back.) But like every other aspect of relationships and love, social media has greatly complicated the post-breakup season.

In general, people seem to be in favor of a clean break regardless of their feelings about the relationship ending — especially women. Dating coach Gabby (@respectfullygabby) addresses the issue with a firm stance: “Going no contact is actually the only solution to getting whatever you want. Whatever outcome you’re looking for, whether it be, you want to get over him as quickly as possible, whether you want to get back together with them, or whether you’re unsure about whether or not you want to get back together with them.”

She goes on to explain that if you know you’re done, “ripping off the bandaid and completely cutting off access is the only way you’re going to heal.” Giving them access again just loops you back into a land of limbo. She goes onto to say, “You cannot move onto what is actually meant for you if you are stuck in what you already know is not meant for you.” She is spot on. If you keep going back when you know it’s wrong, when you stay <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dont-waste-your-time-commit-or-cut-loose" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in a situation</a> that you know is not meant for you, you are just holding your future self back. You are keeping yourself from finding what you actually want. People do this out of fear because leaving is a risk, it’s uncomfortable, and it hurts. But it usually works out in the end.
The other possible outcome from going no contact is that you might realize you were wrong about the situation and you do, indeed, want to get back together. Plus, as Gabby mentions, giving the other person time and space to gain clarity will work in your favor as well; you don’t want to beg for someone to get back together. You want to be with someone who is sure about you. But you absolutely cannot get clarity if you are still stuck in a relationship mess. So, that makes going no contact a win-win situation. You either get over them and move on quickly, or you realize breaking up was a mistake and you end up back together.
Another TikToker, Taylor Herd (@taytalkspod), posted a follow-up to a previous TikTok of hers about the no-contact debate. In this one, she reads the comments she saw the most on her last video, the ones with similar themes. The first she reads is: “It only works if he really likes you.” Then, she follows up with her own commentary: “Correct. If that man can go any amount of time — one week, one month, one year — without thinking of you or without thinking to check in on you, he didn’t really like you that much. He just liked the attention that you show him.”

She says, “He’ll realize he played himself out of everything you had to offer,” but the reality is, he may move on and find someone he likes better. That might hurt, but you should move on and find someone you like better too. If he doesn’t come back, that’s a definite sign you should move on. No matter your feelings about the end of the relationship, a clean break is just smart.
There are, however, TikTokers on the other side of the aisle. After all, it is a debate. They say you do need to talk again to get clarity. Basically, they think you should put yourself through more hurt to know for certain you’re making the right decision. Natalie (@wanderlusqt), for example, advises that if you cannot stop thinking of the person, think they may have changed, or still have hope you can make things work, “I think it is literally critical to break the no-contact rule.” Yet she acknowledges that breaking no-contact always results in “a complete failure” and she “feels so sad again.”

Truthfully, this is absolutely bizarre. Hurting yourself because of some maybes? Do not do it. The people in the comments didn’t agree with her either. They were heated:

It’s not that breaking no contact always ends in pain. There are comments that speak to having broken up, not spoken to each other, broken the no-contact rule, gotten back together, and are now married. But to break no contact, I would advise there be obvious evidence of specific circumstances having changed — to the point you know you would not be walking back into the same situation once again. If, for instance, one of you has put in the work to make changes that would fix the obvious problems, it is possible the relationship could work.
But the fact is, no contact is commonly the right move. A clean break protects against any possible lingering or questioning; you move on. Initiating communication again shouldn’t be based on the maybes, the missings, and the hopefuls. Breaking no contact just because <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exploring-remedies-to-chronic-singleness-part-ii" target="_blank" rel="noopener">you are lonely</a> is a dangerous decision. There is a gaping difference between having concrete evidence to know for certain the relationship would be different, and convincing yourself from a place of loneliness that it might be different. You must be honest with yourself about when it’s logical <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kristin-cavallari-the-montana-boyz-and-advice-we-dont-need" target="_blank" rel="noopener">and when it’s emotional</a>.
If you miss them but nothing has changed and the same problems still exist, you should be focusing on your future. Most importantly, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-truth-about-the-taxicab-theory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have the confidence</a> not to just walk away, but to keep moving forward.

So You’re Going Through A Breakup. Now What?

The landscape of dating is a well-trodden horizon of red flags and green flags. Red flags are, of course, warning signs — anything about a partner that you want to avoid at all costs. On the other hand, green flags are qualities and attributes you want in a partner; they make you want to be with that person even more.
In the gray area of dating discourse, however, is yet another third waving flag color: beige flags. While red means stop and green means go, beige doesn’t offer a suggested trajectory. Beige flags are qualities you notice about someone who you spend a lot of time with. They are the distinct, even funny characteristics you recognize in a significant other. They aren’t good or bad; they’re just unique.
Now, why is there a new phrase to define idiosyncrasies and quirks? And is it really necessary? I don’t know and probably not. But here we are. In fact, the phrase “beige flags” has become so popular, it was listed in the top words of 2023, right behind “Swiftie.”

Beige flags became particularly popular on TikTok, where the trend took off with people posting about their partner’s beige flags. From what I’ve seen in the comments, everyone thinks these videos are wholesome and endearing. For example, one TikToker shows her husband asking Siri to set a reminder for 9:30 so he doesn’t forget he has a cookie to eat, captioning the video with “his beige flag is whatever this is.” The post is just so random, but it’s funny. His wife thinks this beige flag is endearing — and so does everyone in the comments:

It’s sweet that people are viewing these flags as leaning green. Couples seem to be using this trend to fully appreciate each other and recognize what makes their partner unique and different from others in funny, silly ways. It’s healthy to laugh at yourself and know that you love others in spite of their quirks, and this flag is letting people do that.

Another theme I have seen through this trend is women pointing out that their husbands and boyfriends just don’t ask for details, like this one who says her husband’s brother is getting a divorce but he never asked why and his best friend has a new job but he has no clue where. The comments back this funny flag up:

I see this in my own life with my own husband. When I ask my husband, for example, if he’s talked to his childhood best friend recently, he always tells me yes and that they talk all day sending each other memes. But when I ask what his friend has been up to, how his wife is doing, if they got a new dog — anything — he can’t tell me any details. It’s honestly impressive. Another one of my husband’s beige flags is that he constantly leaves the dishwasher open which I perpetually trip over. Granted, he basically always does the dishes so he wants the dishwasher to be ready to put dishes in. For him, it’s a form of efficiency. And why would I complain? Again, just a quirk.
When it comes to my own beige flag (we all have them), I relate to this one:

Now, I know my alarm will still go off even if my phone is on silent, yet every night, I frantically turn the volume up — just to be absolutely certain. I have finally started using do-not-disturb mode, which has been a big win for my husband. 
Per usual, this trend has gotten so big that there are now articles attempting to dissect it and make sense of it all. The Cut published a <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2023/06/beige-flag-meaning.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“So What’s Your ‘Beige Flag’?”</a> piece last year with their take. They go on to try and define what beige flags are: 
<blockquote>Beige flags are traits that, while not immediate cause for concern, are cause for pause. Of course this is subjective, making the exact definition of a beige flag hard to pin down. The phrase isn’t entirely new — videos listing beige flags made the rounds on Australian TikTok last year. And according to those TikToks, a beige flag is simply something that indicates a person isn’t very interesting. On dating-app bios, it manifests as phrases and interests that some users read as shorthand for “I’m boring.” (Think: saying you’re looking for the “Pam to your Jim”; listing “adventure” or “coffee” as an interest.) However, in the year since, what TikTok considers a beige flag has shifted.</blockquote>
While they say a beige flag means “a person isn’t very interesting,” I disagree. I think this has changed since then because they are actually very interesting. TikTok has single-handedly created an entire language of dating lingo, like “the ick,” which <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2023/06/beige-flag-meaning.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">this article</a> also discusses:
<blockquote>This is the one thing TikTok agrees on: A beige flag isn’t a red flag, a clear dating dealbreaker. Beige flags also aren’t as off-putting as things that give you “the ick,” which are different than red flags in that they are simply turn-offs that border on cringey and repulsive, not, I don’t know, moral failings. (Stay with me.) While beige flags might leave you momentarily confused, getting the ick changes how you look at someone forever. Maybe it’s how their mouth smacks when they eat. If this sounds complicated, that’s because it is — and TikTok makes it unnecessarily so. A point to note is that one person’s ridiculous ick could be another person’s beige — or even green — flag. But just because your partner does something you don’t understand doesn’t mean it has to go on your ick list.
Unlike the ick trend (which is usually just absurd), the beige flag trend is really just simplifying and normalizing the fact that everyone has quirks. This is all a part of what makes human nature and finding your person so fun and sweet.

The Beauty Of Beige Flags

Inside the gray area between dating and relationships — also known as “situationships” — lives one underlying question: “Why won’t you commit to me?”
When it comes to relationships and commitment, I keep the same opinion: Don’t waste your time, and don’t waste other people’s time. That’s the bottom line. Have respect for yourself and respect enough for the other person you’re dating — and cut them loose when you know it’s time.
In today’s day and age, the definition of “dating” has gotten completely skewed. Once upon a time, dating meant courting and getting to know each other. Being physical was not part of the process because people were focused on finding out if the other person was someone they would possibly want to enter into a relationship with. Now, people just throw around the word “dating” like it means nothing. Plus, there are different levels of dating, like dating “casually” versus dating “seriously.” But couples who say they are only “casually dating” are often already being physically intimate, long before deciding to be in a relationship. It’s all very convoluted.
Then, there are situationships. Situationships, in my opinion, are the worst things to have ever happened to the dating landscape because they cannot even be considered casually dating; that’s why there’s an entirely different label for them. Two people getting to know each other does not qualify as a situationship; a long-term relationship without the commitment does. It sounds awful. Friends with benefits and situationships are just heartaches waiting to happen. They are stressful because of the constant agony of not knowing where you stand with your potential significant other.

If you don’t know if the other person is seeing or hooking up with anyone else, you’re likely unbelievably paranoid about it. That would be incredibly stressful. Because the reality is, you are going to feel insecure when the person you’re dating has not committed to you. Whether you have not asked for it or they have not given it, there is a simple fix to that: Commit. Basing your relationship status on your own expectations and impressions, of course, will not work. You have to communicate with the person you’re dating. Have the difficult conversation — although, it shouldn’t even be difficult if you’ve been seeing each other for a while.
Some couples allow this gray area to persist for years. They may not be talking to or seeing anyone else, but they also haven’t committed to each other. They are only “sort of” committing to each other. But why aren’t they? Is it because culture is telling them that they shouldn’t commit to each other? That commitment is an arm of the patriarchy? If so, they should absolutely ignore that and be together because, otherwise, they are both wasting precious years of their lives. Plus, the woman is wasting her child bearing years on someone who is not committing to her.
Commitment is actually a wonderful thing. There is a sense of relief and a calmness that comes with knowing you have a solid foundation in your life. Coming home to someone you love is a life-giving part of life. You don’t worry about them sticking around or dating someone else — unless you’re dating a scumbag. A committed, significant other inspires, comforts, and supports you.
The worst thing you can do, in my opinion, is waste your time and your energy. You can create new experiences, earn more money, take a new job, and even make a new start, but you can never get time back. You can never get the energy that you spent wasted on a noncommittal pseudo-significant other back. Breakups are awful, obviously, and because people like companionship, they tend to stay in these messy situations because they think it’s easier than being alone.
But have some self-respect. Know that you are worth more than the anxiety that comes from this.
