When an obnoxious group of political activists suddenly goes silent, it&#8217;s usually a sign that they&#8217;re regrouping in some way. That&#8217;s especially true after the activists suffer a crushing defeat in a national election. It&#8217;s only natural to assume that, under those circumstances, the activists have gone underground for a bit in order to refine their messaging. They&#8217;re putting their best minds together to come up with a platform that might appeal to more people. Or at the very least, they&#8217;re taking steps to make sure that, when they emerge from hiding, they&#8217;re not seen as even crazier and less convincing than they were before. That&#8217;s the bare minimum you&#8217;d expect. Think about how the Indians realized they were on the losing side of the whole debate over &#8220;who gets the land,&#8221; so they came back and decided to settle for owning a bunch of casinos instead. There&#8217;s a strategic retreat, then an effective comeback.
This is the playbook that we&#8217;ve seen again and again. But after this week, it&#8217;s clear trans activists and the LGBT movement have thrown out the manual. Following their rejection at the ballot box in November, trans activists have decided against the idea of moderating their insanity. Instead, they have elected to double down on the most extreme and demented aspects of their ideology.
They have devolved to a degree that, if you weren&#8217;t paying attention, you might have thought was impossible. We are now at the point where trans activists are embracing cruelty that isn&#8217;t even cloaked with the usual lies about &#8220;scientific consensus&#8221; or anything like that. These people are now endorsing child abuse, without reservation, right out in the open. That&#8217;s always what they&#8217;ve stood for. Now they&#8217;re not even attempting to hide it.
In order to understand the depths of depravity, you need to watch the scene that unfolded at a school board meeting on Thursday in Deerfield, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. A woman named Nicole Georgas began by telling the school board that her daughter is a 13-year-old student at a local middle school. And recently, her 13-year-old was forced to share a bathroom with a male student. Watch:

Before we play the rest of Nicole Georgas&#8217; statement, it&#8217;s worth pointing out that, strangely enough, no one on the Left is calling this situation a &#8220;constitutional crisis.&#8221; She&#8217;s pointing out, correctly, that the state of Illinois is defying Trump&#8217;s executive order on gender ideology. And in the process, they&#8217;re disregarding the civil rights of children at a systemic level. If you listened to the Left&#8217;s complaints about how outrageous it was that the Trump administration ignored a judge&#8217;s order when he deported Venezuelan terrorists the other day, you might think that they&#8217;d be equally upset about what the state of Illinois is doing in this case. But of course there&#8217;s no outrage, because these people are more than happy to ignore orders when they feel like it. And the state of Illinois should lose federal funding immediately as a result.
If you don&#8217;t agree with that, then you&#8217;ll change your mind after you hear the rest of Nicole Georgas&#8217; statement.

To restate: This woman is saying that school officials forced her 13-year-old daughter — and several other young girls — to change in front of a male student in a locker room at a middle school. Those school officials, she said, include the district’s assistant superintendent for student services, the school’s assistant principal, and the director for student services.
If this claim is true — and as you&#8217;ll see in a moment, there&#8217;s no reason to doubt that it is — then the school officials who forced these girls to change in front of a boy are guilty of sexual assault. You could probably add kidnapping and child endangerment charges as well. The fact that this took place in a school should not provide any kind of cover for these people. If anything, it should make the charges even more serious. And whatever charges are brought, it&#8217;d still be too light of a punishment. Try to imagine what you&#8217;d do, as a parent, if you learned that an adult was forcing your daughter to get naked in front of a male, against her will. Criminal charges would probably be the least of that particular adult&#8217;s problems.

At a minimum, we need conservative DAs to start pressing those kinds of charges against the people pushing this madness. This goes beyond the realm of a political debate or a &#8220;constitutional crisis.&#8221; This is child abuse. And if there were any good-faith members of the trans activist community — if any of them were capable of some level of basic human decency — they would admit this. They would acknowledge that, indeed, it&#8217;s possible to go too far in the process of affirming gender ideology. And that point is reached when you&#8217;re forcing children to expose themselves to members of the opposite sex.
But because there are no good-faith trans activists, you can probably guess how this mother&#8217;s statement was received. As soon as she was finished, &#8220;boos&#8221; rang out in the room. One person asked her why she was &#8220;obsessed&#8221; with the genitals of children, which is one of those stock arguments these activists use all the time, even though it makes no sense whatsoever. They could be exposing themselves to you and your children in the park, and then when you object to it, they&#8217;ll accuse you of being &#8220;obsessed.&#8221; Then, a few other activists spoke at the school board meeting, and they continued to take cheap shots at the mother. This is the dominant mode of thought, such as it is, among trans activists at the moment. If you&#8217;re a mother who doesn&#8217;t want your daughter to be forced to strip in front of males in middle school, then you&#8217;re a &#8220;bully.&#8221; You&#8217;re an extremist, as identified by Left-wing propaganda outfits. You&#8217;re &#8220;obsessed&#8221; with genitalia. And on and on.
One particularly threatening trans activist took things a step further, and railed against &#8220;white supremacy&#8221; and the &#8220;white God.&#8221; And this person did so while wearing a shirt that reads, &#8220;Protect trans kids,&#8221; with a picture of a knife. Watch:

The framing of course is that the male student is being &#8220;targeted.&#8221; So they can force a girl to undress in a place she doesn&#8217;t want to undress, in front of this male student. And the girl isn&#8217;t being targeted in that scenario, supposedly. Instead, the male is being targeted. He&#8217;s not getting to see the girls undress, so he&#8217;s the victim here. It doesn&#8217;t exactly take Freud to understand the psychology underlying this whole movement.
To the extent that any of these activists presented something approaching an argument, it was to suggest that actually, these girls did have the option of requesting private changing rooms. That came up a few times during the school board meeting. But I&#8217;m going to focus on this one clip, featuring a trans-identifying individual who uses the name &#8220;Charlie.&#8221; Charlie uses &#8220;they/he&#8221; pronouns, so we&#8217;re going to go ahead and use &#8220;she&#8221; to describe her, because it seems like it&#8217;s probably the most accurate option. Charlie says that she also has a trans middle-schooler, which of course is maybe the least surprising revelation imaginable. If trans activists are good at anything, it&#8217;s indoctrinating their own children. In any event, here&#8217;s Charlie&#8217;s big moment, where she reads from an Illinois law that&#8217;s supposedly about &#8220;human rights&#8221;:

This is the extent of the concessions that these people were willing to offer. They&#8217;re saying that anyone who &#8220;wants more privacy,&#8221; under the law, can use a separate bathroom. They can request some other accommodation.
Put aside the fact that, in this case, that other accommodation apparently wasn&#8217;t provided. What they don&#8217;t address is the obvious question, which is: Why can&#8217;t the boy request the &#8220;other accommodation,&#8221; in this scenario? Why do all of these girls have to request their own accommodations, but the male doesn&#8217;t? The reason is apparently that it would make him feel bad if he isn&#8217;t included in the girl&#8217;s locker room. But the fact that his presence makes girls feel bad — feel unsafe and vulnerable — simply doesn&#8217;t register. As you heard from that trans activist, the girls&#8217; feelings of &#8220;discomfort&#8221; are simply considered invalid. The trans activist never explains why this discomfort is invalid. Neither does the Illinois law.
But we all know the explanation, which is that these activists, above all else, are sadists who crave power. They relish the prospect of forcing women and girls to take part in this charade. From their perspective, the more degrading the process is, the better. Everyone must be forced to participate. Whatever mental harm 10 or 20 middle-school girls might suffer as a result, they simply don&#8217;t care. Their only goal is to ensure that the male in the scenario gets his satisfaction.
The argument from these trans activists only got worse from there. Here&#8217;s a couple of them:

So the second woman just yells about pronouns. Nothing new there. And the first woman makes a familiar logistical argument, saying some trans-identifying children supposedly &#8220;pass.&#8221; And therefore, unless we want to inspect their bodies, we need to just accept whatever those kids say.
First of all, of course, it&#8217;s not true that any &#8220;trans-identifying&#8221; middle-schoolers actually &#8220;pass&#8221; for a member of the opposite gender. The child in this situation certainly didn&#8217;t come close to passing. And for that matter, none of the activists at this school board meeting came close to &#8220;passing,&#8221; either. Humans have evolved for a very long time to develop certain sex-specific traits, and to perceive those traits in others. A child who throws on a wig from Party City isn&#8217;t going to overcome that.
But even if we assume, for the sake of argument, that some child somehow manages to fool everyone at school into thinking he&#8217;s really a girl, it&#8217;s still completely insane to endorse the idea that he should then have access to girls&#8217; locker rooms. Just because he manages to fool people and sneak into those locker rooms doesn&#8217;t make his actions justified. It&#8217;s like saying a bank robber is justified if no one notices he pulled off the heist. Deception is still wrong, whether it&#8217;s detected or not.
This is a basic moral principle — one of many basic moral principles that trans activists have abandoned. If this school board meeting demonstrates anything, it&#8217;s that these people are never going to become more moderate or sensible, no matter how badly they lose national elections. As I&#8217;ve pointed out before, most of the adult trans activists who continue in the fight are either trans themselves or have trans kids — or in some cases, both (as we saw at this school board meeting). They will never let it go, because to let it go would be to admit that they&#8217;ve maimed and mutilated themselves or their children. That is a level of self-reflection and acceptance that trans activists, as the ultimate narcissists, are simply incapable of achieving.
What that means is that it&#8217;s now the responsibility of law enforcement officials, at both the state and federal levels, to prevent trans activists from continuing to abuse children. There are clearly no limits to their depravity at this point. If we want to end this sickness, executive orders and court cases simply aren&#8217;t enough. The school officials who embraced this perversion need to go to prison. The school districts that enforce these policies need to lose federal funding. Simply put, there is no legal penalty too excessive for child abusers. And if we want to protect children and prevent anything like this from happening again, it&#8217;s time that the people responsible started facing those penalties.

Since the October 7, 2023, massacre perpetrated on Israeli citizens by Hamas, with the subsequent response by Israel to declare war and enter the Gaza Strip to defeat Hamas, overt anti-Semitic sentiment has erupted on college campuses across America. Citing reports of “widespread antisemitic harassment,” the U.S. Department of Education is now <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-educations-office-civil-rights-sends-letters-60-universities-under-investigation-antisemitic-discrimination-and-harassment">actively investigating</a> 60 institutions of higher learning.
Unfortunately, anti-Semitism is also playing out in K-12 education, particularly in a number of Northern California school districts like Pajaro Valley Unified School District (PVUSD), Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), and Menlo Park City School District (MPCSD). These and other districts are embroiled in controversy over California’s Ethnic Studies curriculum mandate.
Many Californians are aware that in October 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB101" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Assembly Bill 101 (AB101)</a> into law, requiring all students graduating from high school in the 2029-2030 school year to take at least one semester of ethnic studies. The intent, per the state’s <a href="https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/cr/cf/esmc.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum</a>, is to encourage cultural understanding of the struggles of equality, equity, justice, racism, ethnicity, and bigotry that have been prevalent throughout the history of America.
What is less known is that California first considered a draft Ethnic Studies curriculum co-authored by Community Responsive Education (CRE) founder and director Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, which was rejected by the State Board of Education as being offensive to the Jewish community. Consequently, upon signing AB101, Newsom <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/AB-101-Signing-Message-PDF.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote a letter</a> to the State Assembly that noted the bill “expresses the Legislature&#8217;s intent that courses should not include portions of the initial draft curriculum that had been rejected by the Instructional Quality Commission due to concerns related to bias, bigotry, and discrimination.”
The distinct anti-Jewish bias in the previous draft curriculum led Jewish community leaders, as well as the California legislature’s Jewish caucus, to lobby for removal of the offensive material. But that didn’t stop Tintiangco-Cubales, with other like-minded educators, from marketing the rejected curriculum, which they have labeled the <a href="https://www.liberatedethnicstudies.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum</a> or simply “Liberated.”
Given that AB101 allows school districts to either adopt the revised model Ethnic Studies curriculum or develop their own, PVUSD initially elected to bring on Tintiangco-Cubales and CRE as the sole contractor to develop a custom curriculum. As feared by the Pajaro Valley Jewish community, the PVUSD ethnic studies curriculum has been infused with “Liberated” anti-Semitic language in English, History, and Art classes, as well as one standalone ethnic studies class mandated by California.
In a recent <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahhernholm/2024/05/02/new-paradigm-or-political-agenda-ethnic-studies-vs-liberated-es/?sh=29c3732a52aa">article</a> examining the “Liberated” ethnic studies curriculum, Sarah Hernholm noted how the curriculum characterizes Zionism as a settler colonial movement. Such a description deprives the Jewish people of their historical ties to the land of Israel, dating back to around <a href="https://www.history-of-israel.org/history/time_line.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1000 B.C.</a>, as well as their right to self-determination as a people. The “Liberated” curriculum also <a href="https://ceasefiretoday.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">links to a site</a> calling for a ceasefire in Gaza which describes the root causes of violence in Gaza as the “Israeli military occupation and apartheid.”
Concerned Jewish organizations have written letters to PVUSD expressing their opposition to the “Liberated” curriculum. The Simon Wiesenthal Center asked PVUSD to not renew its contract with CRE due to its blatant anti-Semitism. Local Santa Cruz County rabbis asked the same, and further asked PVUSD to develop a curriculum that will unite, not divide, the PVUSD community. And from the very beginning, the California Legislative Jewish Caucus has argued that this curriculum promotes anti-Semitism by denigrating Jewish identity and singling out Israel for condemnation.
The Pajaro Valley Jewish community members I spoke with made it clear they support ethnic studies but oppose anti-Semitism and what they assess as an erasure of the American Jewish experience in the curriculum. After hearing testimony from the community in September 2023, the PVUSD board decided not to renew the contract with CRE and stuck to their decision, despite pressure from vocal activists who support CRE. 
Yet while the controversial curriculum remains, board members and members of the community have been publicly attacked as white supremacists, racists, and genocide supporters by ethnic studies teachers, students, anti-Israel activists outside PVUSD, and University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) professors who have waded into the PVUSD controversy.
Jewish community members fear that adoption of this ethnic studies curriculum is a portent of things to come nationally. <a href="https://campusdirectory.ucsc.edu/cd_detail?uid=cjhong" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Christine Hong</a>, Department Chair of the openly <a href="https://calendar.ucsc.edu/event/education-department-colloquium-do-palestinian-lives-matter-in-teacher-education-centering-an-anti-zionist-commitment-in-early-childhood-teacher-educationhttps:/calendar.ucsc.edu/event/education-department-colloquium-do-palestinian-lives-matter-in-teacher-education-centering-an-anti-zionist-commitment-in-early-childhood-teacher-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-Zionist</a> Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) at UCSC (who was subject to a recent <a href="https://ia600402.us.archive.org/9/items/2-final-hjaa-report.-the-soil-beneath-the-encampments/OCR%20UC%20resolution%20letter%2012-20-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">federal investigation</a> into charges of faculty anti-Semitism), has led the charge of UCSC faculty, appearing many times at PVUSD board meetings and insisting that Tintiangco-Cubales and CRE provide PVUSD what she deems as the only acceptable ethnic studies curriculum.
Alarmingly, Dr. Hong has also been actively involved in a working group seeking to develop the California high school ethnic studies <a href="https://edsource.org/2022/uc-considers-imposing-criteria-for-californias-high-school-ethnic-studies-classes/670186" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requirement for admission</a> into the UC school system. This would have national implications – if the curriculum is accepted for admission to UC schools, the requirement could then be imposed on all other states as well.
California has exported bad policies to other states in the past — on energy, gig workers, and firearms, to name a few. It now seems to be flirting not only with inflicting on its own students a divisive approach to teaching ethnic studies but exporting its radical teaching nationwide. Hopefully the U.S. Department of Education will take note of what’s going on at the K-12 level in California before it too becomes a national problem.

For more than four decades, the federal government has controlled American education, and the results speak for themselves: declining test scores, skyrocketing costs, and millions of students left behind. Since its creation in 1979, the Department of Education has burned through more than <a href="https://committeetounleashprosperity.com/hotlines/trump-is-right-federal-education-department-a-trillion-dollar-failure/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$1 trillion</a> in taxpayer dollars. What do we have to show for it?
The latest data from the Nation’s Report Card paints a bleak picture. <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mathematics</a> and <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/reading/2024/g4_8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reading</a> scores for 13-year-olds are at their lowest in decades. Barely a third of elementary school students can read at grade level. <a href="https://gizmodo.com/u-s-students-post-lowest-reading-scores-in-decades-2000557027" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Low-performing</a> students are faring even worse. And despite the government throwing more money at the problem — per-pupil spending has surged by more than <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/2572941/test-scores-have-barely-risen-since-1970-despite-245-spending-increase/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">245%</a> since the 1970s — outcomes have only gotten worse.
Meanwhile, the cost of college has exploded by <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/college-tuition-cost-rise-loans-administrative-bloat/#:~:text=Between%201980%20and%202023%2C%20the,News%20and%20World%20Report%20found." target="_blank" rel="noopener">155%</a> since the Department of Education’s founding. Students are graduating with crushing debt, only to land jobs that <a href="https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/careers/college-degree-jobs-unused-440b2abd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">don&#8217;t</a> even require degrees. We have seen funding fall by <a href="https://www.heritage.org/education/commentary/the-pork-barrel-politics-the-department-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">50%</a> for career and technical education while Democrats continue to spend money on woke nonsense. Funding for Indian education has also declined by 27% alongside impact aid for schools serving military families which has dropped by 41%. Instead of fixing these problems, the Biden administration made things worse. Our kids deserve better.
Under Biden, the Department of Education wasted <a href="https://defendinged.org/investigations/granted/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$1 billion</a> on grants pushing radical ideologies and <a href="https://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=411780" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rewrote</a> Title IX to let men compete in women’s sports. Bureaucrats in Washington are drowning schools in regulations, adding <a href="https://regrodeo.com/?year%5B0%5D=2024&amp;year%5B1%5D=2023&amp;year%5B2%5D=2022&amp;year%5B3%5D=2021&amp;agency%5B0%5D=Education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$3.9 billion</a> in costs. Even a simple task like simplifying the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) proved <a href="https://budget.house.gov/imo/media/doc/fafsa.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">too much</a> for Biden’s team.
Enough is enough.
President Trump is delivering the reform America needs. His administration has already canceled <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-cancels-divisive-and-wasteful-grants-under-comprehensive-centers-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$226 million</a> in woke grants which forced divisive agendas like race-based discrimination and gender identity ideology onto states. But that’s just the beginning. By dismantling the Department of Education, we will return power to where it belongs: states, parents, and teachers.
The Constitution never envisioned a federal role in education — it’s a responsibility reserved for the states. Yet for decades, the Department of Education has smothered schools with regulations, diverted resources to ideological crusades, and undermined teachers, parents, and students. Thanks to President Trump, taxpayers will no longer foot the bill for progressive experiments and obsolete programs.
This isn’t just about cutting costs — it’s about unleashing potential. Imagine empowering states to achieve educational excellence: going back to basics like math and reading — not divisive ideologies — and adopting <a href="https://www.donaldjtrump.com/agenda47/agenda47-president-trumps-ten-principles-for-great-schools-leading-to-great-jobs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">patriotic civics lessons</a> that inspire pride in our nation’s history. Governors will be measured by student success, not by how well they comply with Washington’s bureaucratic demands. Education will be brought closer to the students and our system will be transformed.
The benefits will ripple outward. Teachers, freed from layers of red tape, will be able to do what they do best — teach. Parents will finally have a real say in their children’s education. And America’s schools will no longer be controlled by faceless bureaucrats or teachers’ unions pushing political agendas. The woke stranglehold on public education will be broken.
Critics will cry that eliminating the Department of Education will hurt students. But the truth is, Washington has failed them for generations. It’s time to try something new. President Trump’s vision trusts states and parents to deliver what Washington never could: an education system that works.
With President Trump’s leadership, we’re not just reforming education — we’re reclaiming it. The future of our children, and our nation, depends on it.

President Trump is winning big victories.
His big victory of the day is slashing and burning his way through the Department of Education, which he has proposed to eliminate completely.
People don&#8217;t seem to understand what it is that the Department of Education actually does. They seem to believe that all public schools all over the country are paid for by the federal government. That is not true. The vast majority of public school spending is state and local spending, as it should be, because there is no legitimate reason why a taxpayer in Florida should subsidize the public school education of a student in California.
The truth is that the vast majority of money spent via the Department of Education is federal student aid on college loans. In other words, the cost of college has skyrocketed due to the gigantic subsidies that are paid for by your taxpayer dollars to colleges that are then churning out good little Left-wing apparatchiks.
Looking at the Department of Education by subcomponent for fiscal year 2025, the largest outlay by far comes from the Office of Federal Student Aid — roughly $68 billion just on federal student loan aid.
Remember when Joe Biden wanted to radically expand that? Why?
Because those are all his friends.

The number one place the pipeline of dollars flows from permanent employees in the federal government to permanent staffers in the blue infrastructure around America is higher education, which is subsidized by the American taxpayer.
It should not be. This could all be done privately. All of it. It would be better if it were done privately, a case I have made previously. The reason this would be better is because students would actually be forced to consider whether they need a degree in lesbian dance studies, as opposed to simply taking money from the federal government, subsidized over the course of 30 years, to get a degree in lesbian dance studies.
We&#8217;ve artificially inflated the necessity for a degree in this country. There are numerous jobs in this country that now require a degree but didn&#8217;t before. Why?
Because when the number of people going to college increases, the expectation that people will have gone to college increases as well.
A signal category error in higher education in the United States was made back in the 1960s. The dunderheads in the federal government looked at the stats and saw that college graduates made more money than high school graduates. Their conclusion was not that college graduates earn more than high school graduates because they were going into professions that made more money. Rather, their conclusion was that this was a lack of opportunity for high school graduates in general. Thus, if we could artificially boost the number of high school graduates who go to college, then the overall income in the United States would somehow be boosted.
Instead, this resulted in everybody being pushed up one level. So now, graduate students make a lot more money than undergraduate students, who make a lot more money than high school graduates — which just prolongs the time before entry into the workforce. So people who do not need a college degree for the job they are currently doing spend four years incurring anywhere from $100,000 to $200,000 in debt on the taxpayer dime, subsidized, before they get to go to a job they certainly could have done going straight into the workforce when they were 18 years old.
It is a scam. It is a massive scam. Notably, this doesn&#8217;t mean everything in our universities is a scam. For specific career paths, universities can be great. For science, technology, engineering, math, and STEM fields, people need a degree because it prepares them for a higher-level job that requires higher levels of training.
But there are many people who believe that colleges and universities should be a prerequisite to entry into public life because they somehow create good citizens.
That died long ago.
The argument for liberal arts colleges died with the Left’s takeover of those liberal arts colleges.
It used to be that universities and colleges in the United States inculcated a sense of virtue and citizenship. The occasional college or university still does that. Some of them are sponsors of my show. Others are startup universities. Some are Christian universities. But they are few and far between.
The reality is that the vast majority of colleges and universities take in high school students and turn out Left-wing thinkers or people who are apathetic about politics with a degree that costs much money subsidized by taxpayer dollars.
Cutting the Department of Education has been a Republican agenda item since the 1980s. But only President Trump has actually taken that seriously. All credit to him. 
Linda McMahon, the newly-approved Secretary of Education, is taking over a department that has already been cut by roughly 50%.

What about the proper jobs of the Department of Education, such as the Office of English Language Acquisition (which is designed for people to learn English in the country) or other parts of the DOE you might want to maintain? Those are shifted out of that department and the department is killed entirely so that it can&#8217;t be rebuilt from within by the Left.
The Department of Education is one of the most bloated parts of the federal government. The total budget and budgetary resources of the Department of Education amount to roughly $100 billion. All of that can be cut.
The Left, of course, is screaming over this. Unions are freaking out, which is a good sign. Randi Weingarten, the head of the American Federation of Teachers and one of the most loathsome figures in American public life, is a person who helped keep kids out of school for two years to get her constituents (i.e., union members) paid to effectively do nothing while wrecking kids for a couple of years on the basis of pseudoscience. Weingarten moaned that the Trump administration would wind up boosting funding for school choice.
You mean the most popular civil rights policy of our era might be boosted? That parents might have the opportunity to take their kids out of failing public schools and put them in better private schools or competitors?
Oh, no.
Of course this is bad for her because her entire shtick is “taxpayers should fund me, Randi Weingarten, and my jerks over at the AFT to indoctrinate your kids or keep them out of school entirely.”
All of this is very good.
It&#8217;s a big win for the Trump administration, and we hope that it continues.

Trump Slashes And Burns Through Department Of Education

When I was growing up in Los Angeles, the bumper stickers proclaimed “Work Union, Live Better.”
For more than two decades as an educator, I lived by those words, serving actively in the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), even representing my colleagues in the House of Representatives.
But in January 2022, I made the difficult decision to leave the union I once cherished.
The U.S. District Court in Los Angeles will be deciding a landmark case brought by Jewish teachers — with the support of the Freedom Foundation — challenging UTLA’s legal status as their exclusive representative.
This case isn&#8217;t just about workplace discrimination. It’s about the transformation of a once-proud teachers’ union into a platform for anti-Semitism and radical politics.
The change began about six years ago when a group called Union Power seized control of UTLA’s leadership. Instead of focusing on teacher welfare, fair wages and workplace protections, it began pushing divisive social and political agendas.
The monthly union newspaper, which had long provided transparency into union operations, mysteriously ceased publication. UTLA’s new leadership endorsed the anti-Semitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement and voted to demand the immediate cessation of U.S. aid to Israel.
The hostility toward Jewish members became increasingly overt. Jewish teachers have been systematically removed from online meetings for questioning anti-Semitic stances.
During a UTLA ethnic studies meeting, President Cecily Myart-Cruz declared the Museum of Tolerance — a Holocaust museum — the union’s “enemy.” At the same event, protesters shouted “F*** Israel” alongside calls for violence.
A UTLA chapter chair even taught students that life in Palestine was comparable to Holocaust concentration camps — a grotesque distortion of history that minimizes the systematic murder of six million Jews.
This isn’t about choosing sides in global conflicts. It’s about a union betraying its fundamental purpose — protecting and supporting all of its members, regardless of their faith or heritage.
The union’s increasingly toxic culture extends beyond anti-Semitism. The LAUSD headquarters houses what teachers grimly call the “Teachers in Trouble” room — essentially a holding pen where educators under investigation languish for days, weeks or months while UTLA does little to defend them.
It’s a stark example of how far the union has strayed from its mission to protect teachers.
After the election of President Trump, Myart-Cruz stoked racial tensions by warning that, “Parents of black and brown children really need to pay closer attention this week to their kids’ classes. Remember, 55 percent of white women voted for Trump, and they are nearly 80 percent of the teaching profession.”
During board meetings, union members openly maintain databases of parents who dare to speak out against their agenda. They’ve even threatened to visit dissenting parents at their homes.
UTLA collects nearly $120 monthly from each of its 30,000 members, totaling more than $43 million annually. Yet when teachers need real support, the union often fails them.
Its legal department routinely abandons educators facing workplace issues, forcing many to seek costly private representation. The union’s standard response to teachers in trouble has become a cynical question, “How close are you to retirement?”
The Freedom Foundation has been instrumental in exposing these practices and supporting teachers who wish to opt out of UTLA’s discriminatory regime. The ongoing legal challenge represents a crucial effort to hold this union accountable for its systemic failures and discriminatory practices.
While opting out of membership provides some relief, Jewish employees still face a fundamental challenge: Under current labor law, UTLA remains their exclusive bargaining representative regardless of membership status.
This means they continue to be associated with the union’s positions even after leaving.
Teachers unions should unite educators, not divide them. They should fight for better working conditions, not propagate hatred.
They should protect all members, not discriminate based on faith or ethnicity.
The reality is, UTLA has abandoned its core mission of protecting teachers’ rights and dignity in favor of anti-Semitic rhetoric and divisive politics. Until fundamental change occurs in UTLA’s leadership, I’ll keep my $1,440 in annual dues and my conscience clear.
Thanks to the Freedom Foundation, teachers have support in challenging UTLA’s discriminatory practices. This court case offers hope for change.
It’s an opportunity to hold UTLA accountable and remind them of their true purpose: supporting and protecting all educators, regardless of their faith, ethnicity, or political beliefs.
Our schools, our teachers and, most importantly, our students deserve nothing less.

Gov. Brad Little (R) came through for the families of Idaho last Thursday morning by signing House Bill 93, the <a href="https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2025/legislation/h0093/">Parental Choice Tax Credit bill</a>, into law shortly before the 11:46 a.m. deadline. Idaho now has a school choice program for the first time in the state’s history.
The bill enacts a $50 million private school choice tax credit program with all schoolchildren statewide eligible. Idaho becomes the 14th state in the nation to enact universal (or near-universal) school choice, joining Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.
Upon signing the bill, Gov. Little <a href="https://gov.idaho.gov/pressrelease/gov-little-signs-house-bill-93-creating-the-parental-choice-tax-credit-program/">declared</a>, “With the passage of the $50 million Parental Choice Tax Credit program, Idaho boasts even more abundant schooling options for Idaho students and families.”
Early in February, the state House passed the bill by a vote of <a href="https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2025/legislation/h0093/">42-28</a>, providing hope to parents that Idaho may finally see school choice become a reality. The longtime Republican-controlled state had been void of any form of private school choice, resembling its Democratic-controlled West Coast neighbors of Washington, Oregon, and California.
On February 16, President Donald Trump weighed in with strong support by <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114015581630558522">posting</a> on Truth Social: “Congratulations to Governor Brad Little, and Idaho Legislators, who are fighting to bring School Choice to their beautiful State. $50 Million Dollars to empower parents to provide the very best Education for their child – GREAT news for Idaho families. This Bill, which has my Complete and Total Support, MUST PASS!”
Then, on February 19, the Idaho Senate voted <a href="https://legislature.idaho.gov/sessioninfo/2025/legislation/h0093/">20-15</a> in favor of the bill, which sent it to the Governor’s desk for signature.
Yet, in uncanny measure for a red state governor, who already had the votes from the legislature and public support from the President of the United States, Gov. Little signaled it was not a given that he would sign the bill.
Before the bill reached his desk on February 21, Gov. Little’s Office had quickly placed an automatic voice message for all incoming calls. The message instructed callers to press one if the call relates to House Bill 93. From there, the voice recording stated that the Governor’s Office was only receiving calls from Idaho residents and only one call per household. It continued, “If you would like Gov. Little to sign House Bill 93, please press one. If you would like Gov. Little to veto House Bill 93, please press two.”
Within a few days of the bill reaching the governor, Press Secretary Joan Varsek <a href="https://www.eastidahonews.com/2025/02/thousands-of-phone-calls-flood-governors-desk-as-school-choice-bill-awaits-his-decision/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the Governor’s office received “thousands of calls, emails, and voicemails on both sides in reference to H.B. 93.”
On Monday, the specific number of responses was released, which totaled <a href="https://www.idahoednews.org/state-policy/governors-office-received-more-than-32k-requests-to-veto-house-bill-93/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">37,457</a>. Only 13.6% of those who reached out were in support of the governor signing the bill, while 86.4% were in opposition.
Yet, these last-minute cries for a veto were far from an accurate reflection of Idahoans’ support of school choice. A <a href="https://www.clubforgrowth.org/wp-content/uploads/securepdfs/2025/02/CfG_ID_ParentalChoiceTaxCredit_PollingMemo1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">February 11-12 poll</a> showed that “nearly three-in-five Idaho voters support passing the Idaho Parental Choice Tax Credit bill.” The favorability of parental choice in education is nothing new as a 2024 poll of Idahoans by Boise State University found that <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/sps/2024-idaho-public-policy-survey/#education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">49%</a> strongly favor or somewhat favor education funding following a student to a “private or religious” school whereas only <a href="https://www.boisestate.edu/sps/2024-idaho-public-policy-survey/#education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">41.1%</a> somewhat or strongly oppose it.
While the Governor may never reveal why he waited until just a few hours before the deadline to sign the bill or why his office set up the phone poll when the results didn’t sway him, parents with schoolchildren statewide are grateful nevertheless that he delivered.
With House Bill 93 now law, parents who opt for a different education avenue than the failing public school system will be eligible to receive a refundable tax credit of up to <a href="https://idahocapitalsun.com/2025/02/19/private-education-tax-credit-bill-heads-to-idaho-governor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$5,000</a> per student. The amount will increase to <a href="https://idahocapitalsun.com/2025/02/19/private-education-tax-credit-bill-heads-to-idaho-governor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$7,500</a> per student for those with special needs. Both amounts are thousands of dollars less than public schools spend per student, with unacceptable educational outcomes.
As evidenced by the latest National Assessment of Educational Progress Exam scores, <a href="https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2024/pdf/2024219ID4.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">60%</a> of fourth-grade and <a href="https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2024/pdf/2024219ID8.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">69%</a> of eighth-grade public school students in Idaho are not proficient in math. Reading is worse, as <a href="https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2024/pdf/2024220ID4.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">69%</a> of fourth-grade and <a href="https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/subject/publications/stt2024/pdf/2024220ID8.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">68%</a> of eighth-grade public school students in Idaho aren’t proficient. That’s nearly seven out of ten children failed by the system and robbed of their future.
Idaho is long overdue for allowing parents the freedom to select a better learning option for their children. Parents should not be bound to a failing system and left hoping their child will be one of the three out of the ten students who learn to read and perform math proficiently by the eighth grade.
The Office of the Governor website, on the “About Governor Brad Little” page, <a href="https://gov.idaho.gov/our-governor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>: “Governor Little is committed to making decisions through one lens: the lens of ensuring Idaho’s children and grandchildren have the best opportunities to stay in Idaho and for the ones who have left to choose to return.
While it may have been in the eleventh hour, Gov. Little took action, recognizing that school choice is the solution to ensuring Idaho’s children and grandchildren have the best opportunities. Continuing course without an exit option for families from schools failing to provide students with proficiency would plague not only each child’s life but the state’s future. Not to mention, families with schoolchildren who have left Idaho would not have been incentivized to return when school choice abounds in other red states.
But thanks to a monumental signature last Thursday, that won’t be the case for the Gem State.

This State’s Governor Delivers On School Choice In The Eleventh Hour

A major court has ruled that parents don’t have the right to know that their child is changing genders while at school.
The <a href="https://www.ca1.uscourts.gov/sites/ca1/files/opnfiles/23-1069P-01A.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion</a>, from the First Circuit Court of Appeals, determined that it does not violate parental rights for a school to transition a child without the parents’ knowledge.
“[P]arental rights are not unlimited,” the court ruled. “Parents may not invoke the Due Process Clause to create a preferred educational experience for their child in public school.”
“As per our understanding of Supreme Court precedent, our pluralistic society assigns those curricular and administrative decisions to the expertise of school officials, charged with the responsibility of educating children,” the court continued. “And the Protocol of nondisclosure as to a student&#8217;s at-school gender expression without the student&#8217;s consent does not restrict parental rights in a way courts have recognized as a violation of the guarantees of substantive due process.”
The decision comes from a case in Massachusetts, where in 2020 a Baird Middle School student referred to in court documents as B.F. began questioning her identity after she received “unsolicited LGBTQ-themed video suggestions” on her school-issued computer. The student, in sixth grade at the time, was given an assignment along with her fellow students to create biographic videos about themselves and to include their pronouns in those videos.
It is unknown how B.F. referred to herself in the assignment, but in the following months, she began receiving the “unsolicited LGBTQ-themed video suggestions” and started questioning whether she &#8220;might be attracted to girls&#8221; and if she had gender identity issues, according to court documents.
By December 2020, B.F. told her teacher that she was “depressed and struggling with insecurity, low self-esteem, poor self-image, and a perceived lack of popularity.” The teacher told B.F.’s parents, Marissa Silvestri and Stephen Foote, what their daughter had said, and the parents agreed to get her the help she needed.
But on February 28, 2021, B.F. announced to her teacher and other school officials that she was “genderqueer” and would use her preferred pronouns and go by a new name. B.F. told school officials that she hadn’t explained this all to her parents yet and asked that she be referred to by her birth name and proper pronouns when discussing things with her parents. Teachers immediately switched to the new name and pronouns, and the school librarian started meeting with the student to talk to her about gender identity and to give her “LGBTQ-related resources,” according to court documents. The school counselor also told the girl she could use whichever bathroom she wanted at the school.
At the same time, B.F.’s 12-year-old sibling also suddenly decided to start using a different name and pronouns.
The parents learned in early March 2021 – just days after B.F.’s declaration – learned about her new name and pronouns from her teacher. The parents spoke with the school principal and superintendent to express concern that school officials had ignored their request not to engage with their child “regarding mental health issues.” When the parents eventually sued the school and its officials, they argued that transitioning the child at school amounted to mental health treatment because social transitioning is &#8220;recognized as a medical/mental health treatment for children with gender dysphoria.&#8221;
Educators at Baird ignored the parents and continued to refer to B.F. by her new name and pronouns. The school counselor also contacted the student through text messages and online chat to keep encouraging B.F. to discuss any gender-related concerns on a weekly basis. At one point, the counselor asked B.F. if her parents were providing her “with appropriate care.” The counselor also asked if B.F. felt comfortable discussing these issues with the counselor her parents were paying for.
When the parents sued, the school district moved to dismiss the case, and the case eventually moved forward to the First Circuit, which ruled the parents had no right to know that the school was transitioning their child behind their back.
The First Circuit’s ruling is filled with biased language, using “they/them” pronouns for B.F. because is it allegedly “gender neutral.”
As Frederick Claybrook, Jr., <a href="https://fedsoc.org/commentary/fedsoc-blog/wrong-foote-forward-first-circuit-tramples-parental-rights">noted in an article</a> for The Federalist Society — an organization that supports limited government — this is the first time a federal court of appeals has waded into parental rights when it comes to transgender issues. Until now, Claybrook states, the courts &#8220;have dodged&#8221; the issue as it relates to parental rights.
“When district courts have ruled in favor of parents, for example in a <a href="https://adflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Ricard-v-475-Geary-County-Schools-2022-05-09-Memorandum-and-Order.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">District of Kansas case</a> and in a <a href="https://casetext.com/case/mirabelli-v-olson">Southern District of California case</a>, the school districts have not appealed,” Claybrook writes. “When parents have lost, for example in <a href="https://casetext.com/case/parents-v-montgomery-cnty-bd-of-educ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Parents v. Montgomery County Board of Education</a>, they have proceeded to circuit court, but those courts to date have dodged addressing the merits.”
The Fourth and Seventh Circuits, Claybrook noted, have both ruled that parents don’t have a standing to complain schools were keeping things secret from them because they didn’t know for sure the schools were keeping things secret from them. Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, who dissented from denial of certiorari in the Seventh Circuit, said that the school’s existing policy meant parents weren’t speculating about anything, and suggested circuit courts were avoiding the merits of the cases.
Jonathan Turley, a renowned law professor, <a href="https://x.com/JonathanTurley/status/1894444445656899712" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> about the First Circuit case on X, writing that there “is no more cherished right that citizens possess than raising their children.”
“Indeed, the right to raise one&#8217;s children according to your own faith and values is the touchstone of freedom,” Turley continued. “Conversely, the subordination of such rights is the harbinger of state tyranny. True pluralism allows families with different norms and values to thrive. Public schools are effectively demanding that parents give up their rights to critical aspects of rearing their children as a condition for public education. It is a virtual slogan for school choice.”

A Virginia school district insists it will not tell parents if a child begins identifying as a different gender, despite the Trump administration&#8217;s warning that schools promoting gender ideology will lose their federal funding.
Albemarle County Public Schools in Charlottesville sent an email to parents on February 3 reminding them about the district&#8217;s transgender and anti-racism policies. The transgender policy states that students are &#8220;not required to obtain parental consent&#8221; to be called a new name and pronoun by teachers and school staff, who are expected to &#8220;honor&#8221; the student&#8217;s request.
&#8220;School administration will not contact a student’s parents in relation to such a request unless asked to do so by the student,&#8221; the policy reads.
&#8220;Recent events have highlighted the importance of standing together against bullying, harassment, and discrimination,&#8221; Dr. Daphne Keiser, Assistant Superintendent for School Community Engagement wrote to families.
President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-signs-order-defunding-schools-teaching-gender-ideology-crt">signed</a> an executive order last month warning that schools promoting ideas like Critical Race Theory or gender ideology would see their federal funding stripped. However, the district says it will back down if the parents of an underage student become aware of their child&#8217;s new gender identity and object to it. In that case, the school will do what the parents want but also &#8220;offer resources&#8221; on gender identity issues.
&#8220;It is not unusual for a child’s desire to transition to first surface at school,&#8221; the policy states.
The policy also says some children may make the &#8220;personal decision&#8221; to opt for puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or transgender surgeries.
In Albemarle County Public Schools, trans-identifying students are allowed to use the bathrooms and locker rooms and play on the sports teams of the opposite sex, according to the policy.
&#8220;Although some students may feel uncomfortable with a gender-expansive student using the same sex-specific facility, that discomfort is not a reason to deny access to the gender-expansive student,&#8221; the policy reads.
Even on overnight trips, trans-identifying students &#8220;must be permitted&#8221; to participate in accordance with their gender identity, the policy says. Privacy concerns will be addressed on a case by case basis, but school staff are directed not to require a student to stay in a single-occupancy accommodation when other students do not have to do so.
School employees are also trained on how to &#8220;foster a more gender-inclusive environment&#8221; through the curriculum.
The policy also includes a laundry list of gender ideology terms, including &#8220;cisgender,&#8221; &#8220;gender-expansive,&#8221; and &#8220;agender.&#8221;
A mother in the school district said she was &#8220;disturbed&#8221; when she received the district&#8217;s email with the transgender policy earlier this month.
&#8220;I am very concerned and disturbed by the audacity of public school administrators casually informing parents (via mass email with an attached 10-page PDF) that they are purposely uninformed about their children’s access and exposure to transgender ideology,&#8221; the mother told The Daily Wire.
Albemarle County Public Schools did not respond to a request for comment.
Also in the email, the school district encouraged families with &#8220;concerns about immigration enforcement&#8221; to contact the district and <a href="https://www.k12albemarle.org/our-departments/esol/immigration-resources" target="_blank" rel="noopener">linked</a> to an &#8220;immigration resources&#8221; page on the website.
The district also has an anti-racism policy adopted in 2019 that <a href="https://www.k12albemarle.org/our-division/anti-racism-policy/policy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">directs</a> schools to implement anti-racist curricula and staff training.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t believe I am racist. Can I still perpetuate racist behavior?&#8221; reads a FAQ on anti-racism the district published.
&#8220;Yes, while a person can strive to overcome bias and prejudice, actively working to recognize and help to dismantle structures and practices that intentionally and/or unintentionally disadvantage historically marginalized people is a much more complex goal,&#8221; the answer reads.
The school district&#8217;s mission statement promises to &#8220;end the predictive value of race, class, gender, and special capacities for our children’s success through high quality teaching and learning for all.&#8221;

The <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American education crisis</a> has become a national emergency that demands immediate correction.
According to the new <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Report Card,</a> a staggering 72% of eighth-grade students who took the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) math exam failed to score at the proficient level. In 2019 and before COVID school shutdowns, eighth graders’ math proficiency levels were already at an unacceptable 66% — 6% lower than where they are now.
This <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=8">report card</a> underscores the need for a seismic shift toward academic excellence over DEI-driven policies, wasteful spending, and misaligned priorities. It also demands that Education Secretary nominee Linda McMahon’s leadership serve as the turning point in reclaiming global math leadership through strategies like those employed by Singapore.
Fortunately, the Senate has a chance to make this vision a reality by confirming McMahon — a remarkably successful entrepreneur with a proven track record of delivering a high-quality product. This time, her mission is even more critical: ensuring American families have every opportunity to access the world-class education they deserve.
McMahon <a href="https://youtu.be/6KPixHxNJuQ?si=P3tx26tzgC8XTVXs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acknowledged</a> during her Senate confirmation hearing that the state of American education falls far short of being world-class, stating, &#8220;We have failed in our mission&#8221; and emphasized that &#8220;we are not delivering the high-quality education our children need.&#8221;
Unlike corrupt bureaucrats who spend billions on DEI initiatives at the expense of true student achievement, McMahon embodies the spirit of American exceptionalism and is focused on restoring the once-high standards for U.S. educational institutions. Today, plummeting student achievement demonstrated by recent NRC scores has embarrassingly reduced the U.S. to <a href="https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/pisa-2022-results-volume-i_53f23881-en/full-report.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">34th place in global rankings</a>, lagging significantly behind top-performing countries such as Singapore and China.
The U.S. education system is in desperate need of an examination of conscience, which I elaborated on in <a href="https://x.com/nickineily/status/1887166519626383760" target="_blank" rel="noopener">my testimony</a> before the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/live/TB4nIgmvHwY?si=cG7FPhHJpWfMAm-O" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House Committee on Education and the Workforce</a>. The previous administration created a dumpster fire by spending over <a href="https://defendinged.org/investigations/granted/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one billion dollars</a> prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives over core subject areas like math.
Much to students’ detriment, identity politics have permeated classrooms across America. Agenda-driven “educators” are brainwashing our nation’s children with <a href="https://defendinged.org/incidents/chicago-public-schools-health-education-scope-and-sequence-includes-teaching-pre-kindergarteners-to-correctly-identify-body-parts-typically-considered-private-including-nipples-penis-anus-an/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gender ideology</a>. Schools have <a href="https://defendinged.org/investigations/list-of-school-district-transgender-gender-nonconforming-student-policies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">kept parents in the dark</a> about their child transitioning to a different gender. Boys have been <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/17/us-news/female-athlete-permanently-hurt-by-trans-athlete-speaks-out/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowed</a> to compete in girl&#8217;s sports. Schools remain <a href="https://zwly9k6z.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fdefendinged.org%2Finvestigations%2Flist-of-school-districts-using-restorative-practices%2F/1/01000194cd2e7442-77266d75-05ae-4df9-8e19-e0e4bb8dee38-000000/lc1ogL9S6PtZZziFOT06loyjYas=411" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unsafe</a>. <a href="https://defendinged.org/investigations/corrupted/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DEI initiatives</a> have pitted students, educators, and administrators against each other and placed race above merit at the sacrifice of standards in excellence. Foreign funding from the <a href="https://zwly9k6z.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fdefendinged.org%2Finvestigations%2Flittle-red-classrooms-china-infiltration-of-american-k-12-schools%2F/1/01000194cd2e7442-77266d75-05ae-4df9-8e19-e0e4bb8dee38-000000/G5UNp0ro-pKBgZxaFkxm9Fl_sK0=411" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chinese Communist Party</a> and the <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/nyc-public-school-wipes-israel-from-the-map" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Qatar Foundation</a> threatens U.S. national security, seeks to soften attitudes towards Chinese state-directed communism and antisemitism, and spreads hate among students in schools.
If confirmed as Education Secretary, McMahon will prioritize answering to students and parents over teachers’ unions and education progressive activists—a stark departure from the Biden administration’s approach over the past four years.
Conversely, Singapore’s fundamentally different approach to education — particularly in math — yields measurable success, as reflected in the nation’s consistently best-in-the-world test scores.
McMahon’s leadership at the Department of Education could serve as a model for both federal and state policies, particularly by mirroring Singapore’s approach. In Singapore, the government actively resists identity politics, instead prioritizing national unity and meritocracy. Unlike the U.S., Singaporean schools prioritize academics and character development over <a href="https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/singapore-schools-israel-hamas-war-teachers-dont-impose-personal-views-moe-4146306" target="_blank" rel="noopener">social activism.</a> Singapore’s <a href="https://www.moe.gov.sg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Education</a> has made it clear that progressive gender ideology has no place in the curriculum. Parental authority is <a href="https://transgendersg.com/healthcare/minors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">upheld</a>, and schools are discouraged from withholding information about a child’s gender transition. Likewise, school sports remain sex-based, with no widespread movement to allow men to compete in women’s competitions. Instead of DEI-style initiatives that have led to division in the U.S., Singapore promotes diversity through <a href="https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/the-gist-new-bill-passed-to-maintain-racial-harmony-us-tariffs-could-have-indirect-impact-on-spore" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racial harmony.</a> Lastly, the country remains vigilant about foreign influence, particularly from China and the Middle East, by <a href="https://www.creatrixcampus.com/blog/role-cpe-protecting-rights-and-interests-international-students-studying-singapore">strictly regulating</a> foreign funding in education.
Moreover, Singapore&#8217;s Ministry of Education developed the world-renowned <a href="https://www.singaporemath.com/pages/what-is-singapore-math">Singapore Math</a> curriculum, which focuses on deep conceptual understanding through a <a href="https://mathsnoproblem.com/en/approach/concrete-pictorial-abstract">concrete-pictorial-abstract (CPA) approach</a>. This method emphasizes mastery of fewer topics, ensuring a strong foundation for advanced math. In contrast, the failing <a href="https://www.thecorestandards.org/Math/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Common Core</a> prioritizes multiple problem-solving strategies over mastery, often leading to confusion and a lack of deep understanding. With its broad scope and fast pace, Common Core leaves students without a solid math foundation, while Singapore Math’s structured approach leads to long-term success, as seen in Singapore’s top global rankings.
If confirmed, McMahon should draw inspiration from Singapore’s success in math education to restore U.S. leadership and reignite American exceptionalism in education. Singapore’s approach prioritizes student learning without any indoctrination and an innovative math curriculum. With achievement gaps still unacceptable six years post-COVID, it’s time for an outside-the-box leader like McMahon to close them.

A California teacher, who had previously been labeled &#8220;Teacher of the Year&#8221; in San Diego County, sobbed in court as she admitted to sexually abusing two students, ages 11 and 12.
Jacqueline Ma, who formerly taught at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City, was arrested in spring 2023 after the mother of a 12-year-old boy alerted authorities about Ma’s explicit texts to her son.
She had initially faced up to 180 years in prison for her crimes but entered a plea agreement for lesser charges, a likely 30-year-to-life sentence.
Per the New York Post, Deputy District Attorney Drew Heart <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/02/07/us-news/teacher-of-the-year-jacqueline-ma-sobs-as-admits-abusing-students-ages-11-and-12/">said</a>, “This was very significant to us, not just because she won an award, but because of who she was in the community.”
Ma pleaded guilty to possessing illicit material of a minor, which authorities said resulted from her sending X-rated images to the students and urging them to reciprocate. Prosecutors noted that Ma repeatedly pressured the minors to send explicit photos of themselves, prompting the 12-year-old to state, “Sometimes I think you don’t understand that I am a kid still.”
Superior Court Judge Maryann D’Addezio presided over the preliminary hearing in 2023 and later described the evidence as “overwhelmingly clear that the defendant took advantage of two children.”
Prosecutors said one instance involved Ma removing her shirt in a private meeting with the 12-year-old victim inside a classroom. After her arrest, law enforcement also discovered a photograph of one of the boys in her wallet.

Trump is reportedly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-department-of-education-may-be-on-the-chopping-block-what-could-that-look-like" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-department-of-education-may-be-on-the-chopping-block-what-could-that-look-like&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738962061046000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0A8kFzr-XoNWJWnG4Hl7Js">preparing</a> to sign an executive order that would gut the Education Department’s core functions, as well as call on Congress to work on eliminating it altogether. The department has already placed dozens of staffers on leave.
In an <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/betsy-devos-shut-down-the-department-of-education-trump-elon" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.thefp.com/p/betsy-devos-shut-down-the-department-of-education-trump-elon&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738962061046000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3S4IZH_sGXEHWS9nPKJzch">op-ed</a> published Thursday by The Free Press, DeVos acknowledged that the idea may sound &#8220;a bit radical.&#8221;
&#8220;But having spent four years on the inside as secretary of education, struggling to get the department’s bureaucracy to make even the smallest changes to put the needs of students first, I can say conclusively that American students will be better off without,&#8221; she wrote.
She noted that the latest Nation’s Report Card, which came out last week, shows students even further behind in reading and math than they were in 2019.
About seven in 10 fourth-graders <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/reading/2024/g4_8/?grade=4" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/reading/2024/g4_8/?grade%3D4&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738962061046000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2LOZTKhvYO3vKP3mSTc7kY">do not</a> read at grade level, and six in 10 fourth-graders are <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1738962061046000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2eQpPHNYbQUoME8mMXhIp5">behind</a> in math, the data show.
Also, the gaps between the highest and lowest performing students are &#8220;as wide as they have ever been, and by many measures, even wider,&#8221; DeVos said. The lowest performing fourth- and eighth-graders&#8217; scores sank in 2022 and even further last year.
DeVos also pointed out that the Education Department does not actually do much educating.
&#8220;Nothing could be more important to our success as a nation than having well-educated citizens,&#8221; she said. &#8220;But don’t be fooled by the name: the Department of Education has almost nothing to do with actually educating anyone.&#8221;
The department does not run any schools or set curricula, and in most states, it makes up a small percentage of K-12 public school funding.
&#8220;So what does it do? It shuffles money around; adds unnecessary requirements and political agendas via its grants; and then passes the buck when it comes time to assess if any of that adds value,&#8221; DeVos said.
&#8220;The only certain benefactor of the DOE’s existence is its patron saint: the teachers unions,&#8221; she added.
During the Biden administration, the department focused on canceling student loans, reinterpreted Title IX to favor trans-identifying males, and caused delays in aid for families when it tried to simplify the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, DeVos said.
She recommended the department send education funding straight to states and schools as a block grant, let the Justice Department enforce civil rights law, and give the student loan program to financial institutions rather than education bureaucrats.
&#8220;While it is true that no federal agency has ever seen its doors closed, there must be a first for everything. On the merits, the Department of Education has earned such a historic distinction,&#8221; she said.

President Donald Trump hit the ground running, reforming K-12 education and restoring parental rights during his second week back in the Oval Office, which coincided with the 15th annual National School Choice Week.
Last week, President Trump issued the “<a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/expanding-educational-freedom-and-opportunity-for-families/">Expanding Educational Freedom and Opportunity for Families</a>” executive order. According to a White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/01/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-expands-educational-opportunities-for-american-families/">fact sheet</a>, the order “recognizes that parents, not the government, play a fundamental role in choosing and directing the upbringing and education of their children.”
The <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/expanding-educational-freedom-and-opportunity-for-families/">executive order</a> states that within 60 days, “the Secretary of Education shall issue guidance regarding how States can use Federal formula funds to support K-12 educational choice initiatives.” It also “directs the Secretary of Education to prioritize school choice programs in the Department’s discretionary grant programs.”
Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services must issue guidance related to “how states receiving block grants for children and families can use those funds to support educational alternatives, including private and faith-based options.”
Furthermore, the <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/expanding-educational-freedom-and-opportunity-for-families/">executive order</a> requires the Secretary of Defense to review and make a plan for how military families “may use funds from the Department of Defense to attend schools of their choice … beginning in the 2025-2026 school year.” Finally, the Secretary of the Interior must submit a plan concerning “how families with students attending Bureau of Indian Education schools can use federal funds to send their children to the school of their choice.”
With clarity and resolve, the President <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/expanding-educational-freedom-and-opportunity-for-families/">communicated</a>: “It is the policy of my Administration to support parents in choosing and directing the upbringing and education of their children.”
The timing couldn’t have been more fitting as it was the same day the National Assessment of Educational Progress <a href="https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/">exam scores</a> were released. The scores revealed that <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/reading/2024/g4_8/?grade=8">7 out of 10</a> schoolchildren cannot read on grade level. Math scores showed that <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=4">6 out of 10</a> fourth-grade students and <a href="https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reports/mathematics/2024/g4_8/?grade=8">7 out of 10</a> eighth-grade students are not proficient for their grade. These scores make an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-national-test-scores-make-undeniable-case-for-school-choice">undeniable case for school choice</a>.
Also, on Wednesday, the President issued the “<a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/ending-radical-indoctrination-in-k-12-schooling/">Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling</a>” executive order. The order <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/ending-radical-indoctrination-in-k-12-schooling/">stated</a> that “In recent years &#8230; parents have witnessed schools indoctrinate their children in radical, anti-American ideologies while deliberately blocking parental oversight.”
The Secretary of Education, Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, consulting with the Attorney General, have 90 days to formulate an “Ending Indoctrination Strategy.” It will include <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/ending-radical-indoctrination-in-k-12-schooling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a plan</a> for “eliminating Federal funding or support for illegal and discriminatory treatment and indoctrination in K-12 schools, including based on gender ideology and discriminatory equity ideology; and protecting parental rights.”
The historic week also included the Trump Administration U.S. Department of Education issuing a <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-enforce-2020-title-ix-rule-protecting-women" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> stating that it “will return to enforcing Title IX protections on the basis of biological sex in school and on campuses.” This was a necessary measure as <a href="https://edworkforce.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=411780">the Biden Administration’s rule</a> had redefined the term sex to include ‘gender identity,’ therefore removing protection and equal opportunity for women.
The week prior, under the direction of the President, the <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-takes-action-eliminate-dei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Department of Education</a> took action to “eliminate harmful Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.” <a href="https://www.chalkboardnews.com/issues/cultural-issues/article_89d2f95a-da74-11ef-881f-c31173f69a5c.html?seyid=48320" target="_blank" rel="noopener">More specifically</a>, “The agency said staff leading DEI initiatives have been placed on administrative leave, and over 200 web pages with DEI resources that ‘promote or endorse harmful ideological programs’ have been deleted. It also killed over $2.5 million of DEI contracts.”
President Trump is far from alone in the charge to reform education and empower parents with educational choice for their children. At the state level, last week, the Tennessee House and Senate passed the <a href="https://tneducationfreedom.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Education Freedom Act of 2025</a>. With Gov. Bill Lee’s signature, Tennessee will become the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/with-gov-lees-signature-tennessee-will-become-13th-state-to-enact-universal-school-choice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">13th state in the nation</a> to enact universal (or near-universal) school choice, joining Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Utah, and West Virginia.
At the federal level, last week, Senators Bill Cassidy and Tim Scott, along with <a href="https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/cassidy-scott-lead-colleagues-in-reintroducing-bill-to-expand-school-choice-educational-opportunity/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">24 Republican colleagues</a>, introduced <a href="https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/ECCA.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Educational Choice for Children Act</a>. The <a href="https://www.theadvertiser.com/story/news/local/2025/01/29/cassidy-scott-introduces-bill-expanding-school-choice-and-education-opportunity/77716817007/">bill</a> “would provide $10 billion in annual tax credits for individuals and businesses to fund K-12 scholarships.” If passed, roughly 2 million children across the country will have access to scholarship funds for private school tuition and fees, and other educational expenses, including homeschooling.
According to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, <a href="https://x.com/WhiteHouse/status/1885388215692988724" target="_blank" rel="noopener">during a briefing</a> on Friday, President Trump communicated that “American education should focus on cultivating patriotic citizens who are ready for the workforce.” The President is not only right, but his executive orders last week to empower parental choice and end radical indoctrination in K-12 schooling are essential and foundational steps in the right direction.
More of these swift and sound common-sense measures are needed and undoubtedly on the way from this Administration.
