This national park’s unique climate involves regular rainstorms during the wet season from October to May. The dry season, from June to September, is the ideal time for outdoor activities, such as hiking or enjoying the beaches. Visitors should also be prepared for humidity and warm temperatures year-round, according to the National Park Service (NPS) website.
The islands are home to diverse wildlife and span over 4,000 acres of underwater landscape. There are 800 types of fish, 200 types of coral, humpback whales, sea turtles, and other native creatures, including flying foxes, <a href="https://www.nps.gov/npsa/learn/nature/animals.htm">according</a> to the NPS.
Across the three islands, the park offers scenic mountain trails, beautiful coastal views, Samoan villages, rainforest hikes, white sand beaches, and snorkeling through coral reefs.

“These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. Passport the most secure documents in the world,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/28/politics/us-trump-passport">told</a> CNN in April, when the passports were first announced.
The limited edition passport is only available through the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., beginning July 6 while supplies last, <a href="https://travel.state.gov/en/passports/apply/help/security-design/passport-250.html">according</a> to the State Department’s website. The new design will be the default version at the Washington location, but the regular passport design will remain available online and at other passport-issuing locations.
Previous renderings of the passport featured a different portrait of Trump opposite the Trumbull painting, first <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/exclusive-state-department-introduces-new-us-passports-celebrating-america250">published</a> by Fox News. The new version appears to be based on a portrait of Trump in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery.
The special designs coincide with a variety of events celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary. The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that the Trump administration can move forward with plans to remove the &#8220;X&#8221; option on passports and require Americans to mark their biological sex on passports.
In a 6-3 unsigned <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/25a319_i4dj.pdf">opinion</a>, the Supreme Court froze a lower court&#8217;s order that stopped the Trump administration from enforcing the passport gender policy. The court&#8217;s ruling was not a final decision on the case, but the majority of justices agreed that the Trump administration is likely to succeed on the merits of the case.
&#8220;Displaying passport holders&#8217; sex at birth no more offends equal protection principles than displaying their country of birth — in both cases, the Government is merely attesting to a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment,&#8221; the court wrote. &#8220;And on this record, respondents have failed to establish that the Government&#8217;s choice to display biological sex &#8216;lack[s] any purpose other than a bare &#8230; desire to harm a politically unpopular group.'&#8221;
The three liberal justices dissented, with Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson writing in a dissenting opinion that &#8220;the plaintiffs will be subject to imminent, concrete injury if the policy goes into effect.&#8221;
&#8220;The Court nonetheless fails to spill any ink considering the plaintiffs, opting instead to intervene in the Government’s favor without equitable justification, and in a manner that permits harm to be inflicted on the most vulnerable party,&#8221; Jackson added in her dissent, which was joined by Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
U.S. passports have had only male and female designations throughout the country&#8217;s history until the Biden administration <a href="https://2021-2025.state.gov/x-gender-marker-available-on-u-s-passports-starting-april-11/">created</a> the &#8220;X&#8221; category to represent &#8220;unspecified or another gender identity&#8221; in 2022. The administration at the time framed it as a &#8220;milestone&#8221; that would &#8220;better serve all U.S. citizens.&#8221;
Since the 1990s, the State Department has allowed Americans, in some circumstances, to choose the gender option on passports that does not align with their biological sex. The Trump administration also wants to put a stop to that practice.
The Trump policy was blocked by a federal judge in Massachusetts after a trans-identifying woman from West Virginia sued when she was prevented from choosing the male option on her passport, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-court-allows-trump-enforce-passport-restrictions-targeting-tra-rcna235999">reported</a>. In the Trump administration&#8217;s filing with the Supreme Court, Solicitor General D. John Sauer <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/supreme-court-trump-administration-new-passport-policy-x-marker/">wrote</a>, &#8220;Private citizens cannot force the government to use inaccurate sex designations on identification documents that fail to reflect the person&#8217;s biological sex — especially not on identification documents that are government property and an exercise of the President&#8217;s constitutional and statutory power to communicate with foreign governments.&#8221;

The Kansas Republican&#8217;s “Passport Sanity Act” mandates that the State Department can only issue passports marked male or female. Currently, Americans with &#8220;gender confusion&#8221; can apply for passports with the gender marked &#8220;X.&#8221; The bill would codify executive actions by President Donald Trump, which require passports be designated male or female.
&#8220;Passports play a critical role in safeguarding our national security by confirming the true identity of individuals leaving and returning to the U.S. — which is why they must reflect factual, biological reality,” Marshall told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Congress should act quickly to enshrine the Passport Sanity Act into law, reinforcing the common-sense approach championed by President Trump and Secretary Rubio.&#8221;
In January, President Trump signed an <a href="https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2025/01/30/2025-02090/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> that stipulated that travel documents, including passports and visas, could only be issued on the basis of sex. Shortly after that order, Secretary of State Marco Rubio froze all passport applications with the gender marker “X.”
“My Administration will defend women&#8217;s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male,” Trump wrote.
Marshall’s bill would codify that order, stating that the Secretary of State can ensure that a travel document “only includes the gender designation male or female” and blocks the issuance of a travel document with the designation “X.”
Trump’s directive has been blocked by a federal judge and the administration has appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the ruling.
“The Constitution does not prohibit the government from defining sex in terms of an individual’s biological classification,” said Solicitor General John Sauer.
Under President Joe Biden, the State Department began issuing passports marked “X” to those who rejected their biological sex. It <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-rolls-out-gender-neutral-passports-americans-can-now-identify-as-x" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first allowed</a> X passports in March 2021, with Biden special diplomatic envoy for LGBTQ rights Jessica Stern claiming that “humans do not always fit within a male or female category around the world.”
“The addition of a third gender marker propels the U.S. forward toward ensuring that our administrative systems account for the diversity of gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics among U.S. citizens,” she said.
The Trump administration has reversed Biden&#8217;s embrace of transgender ideology, removing ideological language from federal documents and cracking down on taxpayer funded hospitals that perform transgender procedures on kids.

Under the new policy, passports already issued with &#8220;X&#8221; as the gender will still be valid.
The move comes after Trump&#8217;s day one executive <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal-government/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">order</a> to officially &#8220;recognize two sexes, male and female,&#8221; and defined a woman as an “adult human female.” The order reversed the policy of allowing people to change their sex on passports and personnel records.
Since 2010, Americans have been allowed to change their sex on their passports. Initially, the change required forms showing a physician&#8217;s approval, but in 2021, then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken scrapped that requirement. In 2022, he added the “X” gender marker, a change announced on Transgender Day of Visibility.

Trump&#8217;s order also attempts to ban housing men in women’s prisons, as well as taxpayer-funded medical gender transitions for federal prisoners. This move is likely to be challenged in court by liberal opponents. The order aims to protect women’s privacy in migrant shelters and rape shelters.
Federal funds are prohibited from promoting gender ideology under the order, which also includes protections for Americans’ First Amendment rights not to use preferred pronouns in the workplace and public schools.

Gender ideology became a flashpoint during the election, especially as parents across the country sounded the alarm on child medical gender transitions and controversial lessons around the topic in public schools.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/state-department" target="_blank" rel="noopener">State Department</a> has been able to process routine applications between 10 weeks and 13 weeks after their submissions, while expedited applications currently take between 7 weeks and 9 weeks, according to a <a href="https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/passports/passport-processing-updates.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from the Bureau of Consular Affairs. The office warned that the State Department may also take as many as 2 weeks to receive mailed applications and another 2 weeks for the completed passport to be mailed back to the holder.
Employees tasked with handling passport applications are witnessing “unprecedented demand” after lockdown measures and vaccine mandates across the world limited the scope of international travel. “We are aggressively recruiting and hiring across our passport agencies and centers. Our passport team members nationwide contribute tens of thousands of hours of overtime a month to issue the millions of passports sought by traveling Americans,” the Bureau of Consular Affairs said. “We have opened a satellite office to help process the large number of applications we are receiving.&#8221;
Passport application rates are generally highest in the months before summer travel.
American travel spending rose 9% between February 2022 and February 2023, according to <a href="https://www.ustravel.org/research/monthly-travel-data-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data</a> from the United States Travel Association, while spending levels between February 2019 and February 2023 increased 5%, implying that expenditures reached amounts previously seen before the lockdown-induced recession. Overseas visitations, on the other hand, were 31% below levels recorded in February 2019, marking a slight improvement from the previous month.
The State Department recently concluded a <a href="https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/renew-online.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">test</a> of an online passport renewal process and is working to implement improvements before a nationwide rollout sometime this year. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last month that his agency is receiving 500,000 new passport applications each week, marking an increase of 30% to 40% from rates seen last year.

The lockdown-induced recession caused a labor shortage in both the public and private sectors, worsening inflation as employers struggle to operate and increase pay to remain competitive in the job market. A new study by UCLA’s School of Law Williams Institute estimated how many “nonbinary LGBTQ adults” living in the United States &#8220;might request&#8221; a “Gender-X” marking on their U.S. passports.
The report <a href="https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/x-gender-markers-passports/">noted</a>, “We estimate that 1.4% of the nonbinary LGBTQ population in the U.S., or 16,700 people, may request passports with an X gender marker each year. This estimate is based upon current demand for X gender markers on driver’s licenses in states which allow such an option.”
The report explained, “the average number of driver’s licenses with X gender markers issued per year in the 18 states with available data (13,804) was multiplied by 0.425 to create an estimate of how many passports with X gender markers may be requested and issued per year in these states (5,866).”
This estimate was then “divided by the total population of nonbinary LGBTQ people ages 18-60 estimated to live in these states, to create an estimated percentage of nonbinary LGBTQ people who would request passports with an X gender marker per year (1.37%).”
The percentage was multiplied by the total estimated amount “of nonbinary LGBTQ people ages 18-60 in the United States (1,219,000), to create an estimate of the number of passports with X gender markers that may be requested or issued per year (16,700).”
The report noted that it includes several assumptions when determining the estimated amount. It also pointed out how it did not consider any changes in desire for the “X” marker over the future, noting how the younger demographic is more likely to “identify as nonbinary” than people who are older. 
The Hill <a href="https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/diversity-inclusion/3258443-nearly-17000-americans-may-request-gender-x-passport-this-year/">reported</a> that 21 states and the District of Columbia currently permit residents to choose an ‘X’ gender marker on driver&#8217;s licenses.

In June of last year, Secretary of State Antony Blinken <a href="https://www.state.gov/proposing-changes-to-the-departments-policies-on-gender-on-u-s-passports-and-consular-reports-of-birth-abroad/">discussed</a> changes to policy, saying the State Department “will be taking further steps toward ensuring the fair treatment of LGBTQI+ U.S. citizens, regardless of their gender or sex, by beginning the process of updating our procedures for the issuance of U.S. Passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA).”
“Most immediately, we will be updating our procedures to allow applicants to self-select their gender as ‘M&#8217; or ‘F’ and will no longer require medical certification if an applicant’s self-selected gender does not match the gender on their other citizenship or identity documents.  The Department has begun moving towards adding a gender marker for non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming persons applying for a passport or CRBA,” he added.
The TSA is also <a href="https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/diversity-inclusion/3258443-nearly-17000-americans-may-request-gender-x-passport-this-year/">updating</a> its policy for gender markers on its &#8220;TSA PreCheck&#8221; system. 
The TSA <a href="https://www.tsa.gov/transgender-passengers">stated</a>, “Beginning in April 2022, a TSA PreCheck® applicant can select the gender they would like saved in their TSA PreCheck® record simply by selecting ‘M’ or ‘F’ during the enrollment / renewal process. The gender selected does not need to match the gender on supporting documentation, such as birth certificate, passport, or state-issued ID.” 
“TSA PreCheck® is also working to include an ‘X’ gender marker option on its application to ensure the TSA PreCheck® program accurately reflects traveler gender and keeps pace with identity documents that offer the ‘X’ gender marker option.  TSA expects this update to be complete by the end of this year,” it added. 
The move comes as the Biden administration continues to push for more policies promoting transgenderism. 
Last week, on the “Transgender Day of Visibility,” the Biden administration <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/03/31/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-advances-equality-and-visibility-for-transgender-americans/">released</a> a statement saying:

The move to make “gender neutral” passports was first announced back in June 2021 by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. At the time he said that the State Department would add another “gender marker” and allow people to choose whether they were marked male or female despite medical documentation.
“Most immediately, we will be updating our procedures to allow applicants to self-select their gender as ‘M’ or ‘F’ and will no longer require medical certification if an applicant’s self-selected gender does not match the gender on their other citizenship or identity documents,” Blinken <a href="https://www.state.gov/proposing-changes-to-the-departments-policies-on-gender-on-u-s-passports-and-consular-reports-of-birth-abroad/">said</a>. 
The Transportation Security Administration <a href="https://www.axios.com/us-gender-neutral-x-passports-a5374c37-5bbe-4696-8df5-54e351086ce4.html?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_content=politics-trans">will</a> also be implementing policy changes to move its protocols in line with the addition of the “X” passport. 
These moves include changing the “current, gender-based system” for pat-downs and other screening and taking away “gender considerations when validating a traveler’s ID at airport security checkpoints,” according to Axios. 
The Biden administration’s integration of transgender ideology into international travel comes as Biden recognizes “Transgender Day of Visibility” on Thursday, which included a special focus on transgender children. 
In a <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/03/31/fact-sheet-biden-harris-administration-advances-equality-and-visibility-for-transgender-americans/">statement</a>, Biden vowed that his administration would provide support and “resources for transgender kids and their families.”
This support included backing “gender affirming care” on the “mental health” of children. He also explained that he had the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health develop a <a href="https://opa.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/2022-03/gender-affirming-care-young-people-march-2022.pdf">resource</a> to detail the importance of “gender affirming care.”
So-called gender affirming care includes things like puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for children and adolescents. The “surgeries,” which include “creat[ing] male typical chest shape” on females and “surgery” on male and female reproductive organs and genitalia, are to be used on a “case- by-case in adolescence,” according to the administration. 
The statement from the White House also condemned states that have passed bills outlawing transgender surgery and hormone blockers for minors.
&#8220;The President has consistently made clear that legislative attacks against transgender youth are un-American, and are bullying disguised as legislation,&#8221; the statement added.

On September 1, Crenshaw slammed President Biden’s State Department, headed by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, for their passivity regarding rescuing trapped Americans out of Afghanistan. In late August, after news broke of the terrorist attack on the Kabul, Afghanistan, airport, which killed 13 U.S. service members and dozens of Afghans, Crenshaw, who lost his right eye to an IED blast in Afghanistan on his third deployment, blasted President Biden on Twitter, snapping, “Fix the mess you created. Stop running from it. We are still at war.”

Stern also stated, “We see this as a way of affirming and uplifting the human rights of trans and intersex and gender-nonconforming and nonbinary people everywhere.”
On June 30, Secretary of State Antony Blinken <a href="https://www.state.gov/proposing-changes-to-the-departments-policies-on-gender-on-u-s-passports-and-consular-reports-of-birth-abroad/">released a statement</a> in which he lauded President Biden for “demonstrating this administration’s commitment to human rights,” adding:

“The United States joins a handful of countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Nepal and Canada, in allowing its citizens to designate a gender other than male or female on their passports,” AP noted.
