NASCAR driver Kyle Busch’s widow, Samantha, revealed in an Instagram post Wednesday night the promise she made to her husband before his untimely death last month.
Busch died at the age of 41 after he developed sepsis following a bout of pneumonia. The couple had two children together, Brexton and Lennix. Brexton has already begun his racing career at the age of 11.
“Watching Brexton back at the track is both heartbreaking and beautiful all at once because there are moments when I catch a glimpse of Kyle in him, the same determination, the same passion, the same spark, and for a second it feels like a piece of him is still right here with us,” the grieving widow wrote.

At just 41 years old, NASCAR legend <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/legendary-nascar-driver-kyle-busch-dead-at-41">Kyle Busch</a> died after severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, causing fatal complications.
In Busch’s case, reports indicate he initially believed he was dealing with a sinus infection or cold before the illness worsened into bacterial pneumonia, which later triggered sepsis.
The husband and father of two’s untimely death has put a spotlight on sepsis, a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s response to an infection begins damaging its own tissues and organs. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1.7 million adults in the United States develop sepsis each year, and at least 350,000 die during hospitalization or are discharged to hospice.
Typically, older adults, young children, and immunocompromised individuals are at greater risk of developing sepsis. However, it can also occur in otherwise healthy people, particularly when infections are left untreated or quickly worsen.
To help people recognize potential warning signs of sepsis, Sepsis Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness about the condition, developed the acronym TIME. The acronym stands for Temperature — higher or lower than normal; Infection — signs or symptoms of an infection; Mental decline — confusion, sleepiness, or difficulty waking up; and Extremely ill — severe pain, shortness of breath, or feeling like you might die.
The organization urges people to watch for a combination of these symptoms and seek immediate medical care as soon as possible, since prompt treatment can improve outcomes significantly.

Health experts also stress that proper treatment of infections is critical to reducing sepsis risk. Sepsis Alliance encourages people to closely monitor infections and follow treatment plans exactly as directed by their doctor. In particular, people recovering from surgery, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, or other bacterial illnesses are advised to pay close attention to their symptoms.
Regarding the use of antibiotics, these should be taken exactly as directed. Doses should not be skipped and patients should complete the full course of medication even if symptoms begin to improve. Stopping antibiotics too early can allow bacteria to survive, potentially causing an infection to return or worsen.
Sepsis Alliance also advises against using leftover antibiotics or taking medication prescribed for someone else, warning that improper antibiotic use can delay effective treatment and contribute to antibiotic resistance.
The organization further recommends seeking medical attention if an infection is not improving, symptoms suddenly worsen, or warning signs of sepsis — like confusion, difficulty breathing, extreme pain, or a feeling that something is seriously wrong — begin to appear.
Although sepsis is a serious medical emergency, experts say greater public awareness, timely treatment, and proper infection care can help save lives.

NASCAR legend Kyle Busch died after severe pneumonia triggered sepsis and a cascade of overwhelming complications, according to a statement released by his family Saturday morning.
“The medical evaluation provided to the Busch Family concluded that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications,” the family said. “The family asks for continued understanding and privacy during this difficult time.”
He was 41 years old.
The new details emerged less than 48 hours after Busch’s sudden death stunned fans, drivers, and teams across the NASCAR world just days before one of the sport’s biggest races of the year.
Busch suffered a medical emergency Wednesday at a General Motors facility in Concord, North Carolina. According to a 911 call, someone at the scene told dispatchers Busch was struggling to breathe, felt extremely hot, believed he was going to pass out, and was coughing up blood.
“I’ve got an individual that’s experiencing shortness of breath, very hot and thinks he’s going to pass out and he’s producing a little bit of blood, coughing up some blood,” the caller said.
Busch was transported to a Charlotte-area hospital.
On Thursday morning, Richard Childress Racing announced he would miss the Coca-Cola 600 because of what was described at the time as a “severe illness.”
Just hours later, NASCAR confirmed Busch had died.
News of Busch’s death quickly sent shockwaves through the racing community.
“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch,” NASCAR, Richard Childress Racing, and the Busch family said in a joint statement Thursday. “A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation.”

The racing world was heartbroken Thursday as news quickly spread that Kyle Busch, one of this generation’s most prolific racers, died suddenly at 41 years old.
While the exact cause of death hasn’t been disclosed, 911 audio obtained by <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/05/22/kyle-busch-911-audio/">TMZ</a> reveals more details about the father-of-two’s final moments.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve got an individual that&#8217;s uh … shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he is going to pass out … and is producing a little bit of blood … coughing up some blood,&#8221; the 911 caller said, audio released by TMZ revealed.
&#8220;He’s awake &#8230; he’s on the bathroom floor right now,&#8221; the person added. Busch was on the floor of the General Motors Charlotte Technical Center where he was training when the medical emergency occurred.
The person who made the 911 call asked responders to turn the sirens off when heading toward the Concord, North Carolina, address where Busch was training. The 911 call was made around 5:30 that evening, per TMZ.
Sources close to the situation told The Daily Wire the 41-year-old passed out Wednesday while he was testing a Chevrolet racing simulator. After EMTs got on scene, Busch was transferred to a local hospital, where he died less than 24 hours later.
The tragedy happened less than two weeks after Busch requested medical assistance at a race at Watkins Glen in New York for a &#8220;sinus cold.&#8221;
After the May 10 competition, Busch went on to race in the Truck Series on May 15, winning the Ecosave 200 at Dover Motor Speedway. Two days later, he participated in the NASCAR All-Star Race.
On Thursday, Busch&#8217;s family announced he was in the hospital with a &#8220;severe illness&#8221; before revealing that he had died hours later.
Some of NASCAR&#8217;s biggest names have expressed shock and sadness following Busch&#8217;s passing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. penned a thoughtful message about their, at times, rocky relationship that turned into a lasting friendship.
&#8220;Kyle was one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. No one can deny that,&#8221; Dale Jr. <a href="https://x.com/DaleJr/status/2057596215206805756?s=20">wrote</a>. &#8220;But he was also a father, a husband, brother, son, and a friend to many. My heart is broken for the Busch family. I will never be able to make sense of this loss but I am thankful that we had found a way to become friends.&#8221;
Busch was set to race in this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 in the legendary driver’s backyard of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In the race preview email sent out Wednesday, Busch was listed among the race storylines as a driver who has &#8220;something to prove&#8221; during Sunday’s race.
Now, the entire storyline has changed around the premier NASCAR event with the passing of the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.
Still, the checkered flag will wave Sunday with NASCAR officials planning to honor the life of Busch in a big way.

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Daniel Dye, 22, after he mocked another racer using what he described as a &#8220;gay voice&#8221; during a livestream.
The <a href="https://x.com/LostSchemes/status/2033933092109303947">video</a> that circulated on social media Tuesday shows the Kaulig Racing driver altering his voice to imitate fellow driver David Malukas.
“As soon I start doing a David Malukas gay voice I get a gold, so let’s keep it going,” Dye can be heard saying in the clip.

Malukas, a 24-year-old Team Penske driver, has frequently been pictured on social media with his girlfriend, Kamila Jurkus, and has not publicly identified as gay. 
Dye issued an apology later Tuesday, saying he chose his words “poorly” and understood why they upset people. 
“I have some close friends in the LGBTQ+ community who I would never want to feel less of themselves because of what I said,&#8221; Dye wrote. &#8220;That’s exactly why I should hold myself to a higher standard.”
Dye said he is “committed to learning from this.”

NASCAR has not provided a timeline for Dye&#8217;s reinstatement.
Brad Moran, managing director of the NASCAR Cup Series, said Dye must complete a customized program before being considered to return.
“They are all one-on-one and customized to fit every situation,” he <a href="https://www.nascar.com/videos/franchise/tuned-in/nascar-official-explains-process-for-dyes-return/">said</a> during an interview with Sirius XM. 
“Once he gets through the program, and the folks that hold and manage the program are comfortable that there were some good lessons taught, and he understands the severity of what these things can do to folks, once that happens, he gets put back in for reinstatement,” Moran added.
This is the second time Dye has been suspended.
At age 18, Dye was arrested at a Daytona Beach racing event and charged with felony battery after punching a classmate, resulting in a ruptured testicle, per <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-daniel-dye-suspended-david-malukas-livestream-3e6730a5d383fa2a8d8a2368a0c71e22">Associated Press</a>.

Longtime NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his family were among those killed in a plane crash on Thursday morning in Statesville, North Carolina, about 45 miles outside of Charlotte.
Representative Richard Hudson confirmed the news.
&#8220;I am devastated by the loss of Greg, Cristina, and their children, and my heart is with all who loved them,&#8221; Rep. Hudson said.
Biffle&#8217;s close friend, Garrett Mitchell <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AMbpQWYR7/">said</a> the Biffles were flying to visit him when the plane crashed.
&#8220;Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane &#8230; because they were on their way to spend the afternoon with us. We are devastated. I&#8217;m so sorry to share this,&#8221; Mitchell said.
Biffle&#8217;s daughter was a teenager, and their son had just turned five.
A source with knowledge of the situation told The Daily Wire there were a total of six passengers on board.
According to airport officials, the Cessna C550 airplane crashed while landing at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DkbX45b4h/">Statesville Regional Airport</a> around 10:15 a.m. <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/2001696669822284016?s=20">Video</a> from witnesses showed the aircraft engulfed in flames near the runway. The crash caused a multi-agency response.
Flight tracking records showed a Cessna C550, registered to GB Aviation Leasing LLC, that took off from Statesville Regional Airport at 10:06 a.m. before turning around shortly after takeoff to head back to the airport. GB Aviation Leasing LLC is a private company linked to Biffle.

Biffle was a longtime NASCAR driver, becoming one of only three drivers to win the Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series. He was a nominee for the 2025 NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Biffle was known for more than just his skills on the track. He was a humanitarian who helped out greatly when North Carolina was devastated by Hurricane Helene. Biffle used his personal helicopter to take generators, chainsaws, water, and essential supplies needed to those in the impossible-to-reach regions devastated by the storm. He even helped raise more than $60,000 from t-shirt sales for western North Carolina relief efforts.
&#8220;They were friends who lived their lives focused on helping others,&#8221; Rep. Hudson said. &#8220;He was an extraordinary person as well, and will be remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track.
Biffle said he loved anything with gas and wheels — it was evident in his love for aviation.
The private pilot flew out of the Statesville airport often. According to the city of Statesville’s website, the airport is city-owned and provides corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams.
Airport officials said in a press conference Thursday that the airport is shut down while debris is cleaned up. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash. At this time, there is no official cause of the crash.

Comedian Druski, who is black, is being criticized for disguising himself in “whiteface” and filming himself pretending to be a racist NASCAR fan.
The 30-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Andrew Desbordes, covered his face and upper body in very realistic paint to make himself appear to be a Caucasian man with a farmer’s tan sunburn. He wore no shirt under a pair of overalls, and accentuated the look with an American flag cowboy hat, American flag tattoos, a mullet, and a beard and mustache combo.
Clips of the skit have gone viral, with the X clip of the bit racking up 84 million views.

The comedian targets certain people in the video, spitting at the feet of a passing black man and stopping another black man to say, “Are you lost, boy?” and spitting again. 
“Here’s to love. Here’s to honor. If you can’t come in her, come on her,” Desbordes says in a mock toast in the clip. The comedian also shouts the lyrics to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” while driving in a vehicle. 
Reactions to the skit were mixed in the comments, including from Druski’s fans.
“Notice how no white folk acted like you were? And WHY did you spit at the feet of black people? I wish you would go back and ask them how many times that happened that day — you treated them worse than any white person did I assure you,” one popular comment <a href="https://x.com/ThinkArchimedes/status/1963020832143196176">said</a>. “Always have to invent the racism.”

Former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick said supporting men in women’s sports is “irrational” as she defended former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines in her spat with Olympic gymnast Simone Biles over trans-identifying athletes.
“This issue has a shelf life,” Patrick said in a social media post. “I truly believe common sense will prevail. But until then, I am grateful for people like Riley Gaines who are making sure no one gets away with it. Not to mention the fact that she actually lived it.”
The argument began over the weekend, when Biles attacked Gaines and voiced support for trans-identifying athletes. Gaines had recently criticized a trans-identifying man who led a Minnesota high school softball team to win a state championship.
“You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race,” Biles said in a post on X. “Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!”

Gaines, who competed against trans-identifying man Lia Thomas, called Biles’ post “disappointing.”
“My take is the least controversial take on the planet,” Gaines said in an X post. “Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams? Didn’t have that on my bingo card.”

Patrick also criticized supporters of trans-identifying athletes.
“Defending men in women’s sports is the woke mind virus and/or another issue that requires therapy,” Patrick said.
Patrick <a href="https://www.danicapatrick.com/racing/profile" target="_blank" rel="noopener">competed</a> against male drivers during her NASCAR and IndyCar careers and became the first woman to win an IndyCar race after her IndyCar Series Indy Japan 300 victory. Studies differ on whether or not biological differences impact driving ability. A 2016 study of 35 male drivers and 25 female drivers <a href="https://www.jebmh.com/articles/effect-of-gender-difference-on-brake-reaction-time.pdf.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> men had a higher reaction time when braking, while a Michigan State University study from 2019 of six male drivers and six female drivers <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30925578/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> no significant physiological differences between sexes in racecar driving.
Patrick herself seems to believe there is a biological difference. In 2023, she said racecar driving is “masculine” by nature, according to Planet F1.
“​​You have to, you know, handle the car — not only just the car because that’s skill, but the mindset that it takes to be really good is something that’s not normal in a feminine mind, a female mind,” Patrick said.

Actor Frankie Muniz has made his mark in the racing world after finishing in the top 10 on Friday in his fifth NASCAR truck series race, a support event at the Daytona International Speedway that led up to the main event, the Daytona 500, on Sunday.
The 39-year-old, best known for his starring role in the FOX TV sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” which ran from 2000-2006, initially came in 11th place but ended up being bumped into the 10th after Parker Kligerman was disqualified because his truck did not meet the minimum post-race height requirement.

With a &#8220;Malcolm in the Middle&#8221; reunion series in the works, Muniz will attempt to balance his truck series schedule, which includes 25 more races through November, with his production work. Producers have given him some flexibility, though, agreeing to film Sunday through Wednesday, allowing the actor to race Thursday through Saturday.

After Sunday night’s NASCAR All-Star Race, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fired a punch at Kyle Busch because Busch had used his car to shove Stenhouse Jr. into a crash with the wall on Lap 2, forcing him out of the race.
Busch was apparently prompted to retaliate after Stenhouse Jr. went three-wide on the first lap. Stenhouse could not exit the track until the race was over, as the North Wilkesboro track had no way out of the infield. Stenhouse Jr. parked his car in Busch&#8217;s pit stall and told an interviewer he would be waiting for Busch, Yahoo Sports <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/nascar-ricky-stenhouse-jr-throws-punch-at-kyle-busch-after-all-star-race-020311803.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, adding that he mentioned the 2011 incident when car owner Richard Childress, 65,  <a href="https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nascar-from-the-marbles/richard-childress-faces-discipline-punching-kyle-busch-150715971.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">punched</a> Busch, then 26. Busch had door-slammed Joey Coulter, who raced for Childress in the O&#8217;Reilly Auto Parts 250.
“You hit the fence yourself. I didn’t touch you,” Stenhouse Jr. told Busch. “Go back and watch &#8230; I did not touch you. Not once. &#8230; You hit the fence and then you hit me. .. Go back and watch it.” Then, he took a swing at Busch.

“He left the door wide open, I went through the middle, almost had him clear, the 34 [of Michael McDowell] kind of ran up the track and we all kind of touched there — nothing major,” Stenhouse told <a href="https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nascar/ricky-stenhouse-jr-kyle-busch-fight-after-all-star-race">Fox Sports</a>. “Then Kyle tried to wreck me in [Turns] 3 and 4 and then finally did wreck me in [Turns] 1 and 2. &#8230; He just did a poor job on the start and then was mad about it — I think that&#8217;s the way his season has gone. I’m not sure why he was so mad. I shoved it three-wide, but he hit the fence and kind of came off the wall and ran into me. I don’t know, when I was talking to him, he kept saying that I wrecked him. Definitely built up frustration with how he runs his mouth all the time about myself. I know he’s frustrated because he doesn’t run near as good as he used to.”
On the way to his stall, Busch said, “First lap of the race, we don&#8217;t even have water temp in the car yet and we&#8217;re wrecking each other off of [Turn] 2. I am tired of getting run over by everybody. But that&#8217;s what everybody does — everybody runs over everybody to pass everybody.”

“I felt like Kyle and I have always raced each other really hard back to the Nationwide Series when we were competing for wins week in and week out, never had any issues,” Stenhouse said after the fracas. “I wrecked him one time at Daytona and he&#8217;s kind of badmouthed me ever since then. I feel like we get along with each other OK outside the race track, I talk to him quite a bit and I&#8217;m not sure why he was so mad that I shoved it three-wide but he hit the fence and kind of came off the wall and ran into me and I don&#8217;t know, when I was talking to him he kept saying that I wrecked him. So definitely just built up frustration with how he runs his mouth all the time about myself but I know he&#8217;s frustrated because he doesn&#8217;t run near as good as he used to and I understand that. We&#8217;re a single-car team over here and working really hard to go out and get better each and every weekend.”
