<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kevin-costner">Kevin Costner</a> publicly addressed the lackluster earnings from the first installment of his Western-themed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">film</a> franchise, “Horizon,” claiming that even though the first film flopped and the second was delayed, he’s still counting on the movie standing “the test of time.”
The 69-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">actor</a> spoke with reporters at the 2024 Venice Film Festival over the weekend, admitting that “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” didn’t perform well at the box office. “It didn’t have overwhelming success,&#8221; he said, per <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/festivals/kevin-costner-horizon-2-scrapped-theatrical-release-reaction-to-box-office-not-overwhelming-success-1236133084/">Variety</a>.
“I’ve had a lot of movies that way, that have stood the test of time,&#8221; Costner added.
Originally, the second installment in the “Horizon” series was slated to come out just six weeks after the first one did, which he called a “studio decision.” He said the studio was also the reason for the release being delayed.
“For me, it fell back into my plan, which was I always wanted to come out with movies about five-six months apart. And that was going to allow me to come to Venice,” Costner said, per the outlet. “I would have never come to Venice, because they won’t show the film here if it was already out.”
“Part One” made just over $29 million in North America against an estimated production budget of $100 million.

The actor said he’s still planning to forge ahead with making “Horizon” a four-part film series despite negative reviews and poor earnings. 
“Sometimes when things don’t come to us easily, we want to just step away. But there’s something in me that only increases my desire when something is not working,” Costner said. “It’s a story, it’s a piece of entertainment that I think can stand the test of time. When I feel rejection, unlike anybody else, when I open my eyes from my disappointment, my desire is only increased.”
He said in terms of making the third movie, he wants to “hurry and not let the rock fall back downhill, I gotta go put my hands on it again and start to push it up.”
The “Dances with Wolves” actor also asserted that the movies don’t take sides in terms of politics, mentioning how “it’s not a message politically to anyone.”
“‘Horizon’ is not a message to my country, it’s a reminder to my country of how difficult it was that people made this journey,” he said, per Variety.

Former sitcom star Roseanne Barr sat down to discuss Matt Walsh’s upcoming documentary, “Am I Racist?” 
The actress had nothing but praise for the film and for Walsh’s approach, which was to use humor to help people “step out of the tiny box&#8221; they’d been in and the brainwashing constantly happening in the media and corporate environments when it comes to DEI. Barr said the key to resonating with the intended audience is by telling an entertaining yet important story, which is not easy to achieve. But “Am I Racist?” does exactly this.
Walsh agreed that while there’s a lot of value in his daily podcast, there are many people you can’t reach through those avenues. This film was made to have broad appeal to a larger audience. Barr agreed, saying he was doing “the right thing by making a funny movie.”
“That’s really the way to reach people, by doing something funny that just happens to be exposing a grift,” she said.

Walsh also explained how the film wasn’t meant to “put the message before the story.” Instead, he sought to create something entertaining that also packed a powerful message about the extreme grifting in the DEI industry. 
“The story really matters, we have to put that first,” Walsh told Barr.
Walsh described one part of the film when he visited a biker bar in the South and also went to an impoverished area in New Orleans. In both places, he encountered people unfamiliar with the mainstream DEI language. 
“Of course, we didn’t know how these conversations were going to go. But we kind of suspected that we would hear really similar things from both of these groups. Even though we’re told by the media that these groups hate each other. What we found is that we heard exactly the same thing… almost the exact same words.”
Walsh went on to say that no one in either of those environments was very concerned with racial identities.
“Because you were talking to the working class, you weren’t talking to the operatives that graduated brainwashed from college,” Barr observed. “You know, the privileged.” 
Walsh also mentioned how those who don’t have corporate jobs aren’t influenced by the “DEI brainwashing” happening there. 
“The default position is that [race is] not a big deal,” Walsh said.

The duo talked about one of Walsh’s most-asked questions from fans after making this film and his 2022 smash hit “What is a Woman?” which had to do with keeping a straight face during interviews. He said it might seem funny in retrospect, but actually dealing with grifters who were immersed in the lie was more frustrating than funny. 
“The challenge isn’t not laughing, it’s not screaming at them,” he told Barr. 
Later in the conversation, Walsh spoke with Barr about how theaters surprisingly accepted the film&#8217;s content, but they cautioned that it would be harder to sell audiences on a documentary-style project. The Daily Wire host said he was happy to report that promising ticket presales allowed them to expand the release to double the theaters they originally had.
Finally, the “Roseanne” star gave her thoughts on the project. “I’m glad you made the movie,” she told Walsh. “You were game to get a laugh, and it was funny.” 
Barr compared Walsh’s tactics to those of Michael Moore and Sacha Baron Cohen in terms of style and talent, even if they have different messages. 
“I’m glad you’re doing it. I’m glad you’re funny. I’m glad God gave you the gift of humor,” she added. “I think you made a good film; I hope you’ll make more.”

A new documentary about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/abraham-lincoln">Abraham Lincoln</a> focuses on the former president’s sexuality, speculating that his private writings and certain actions prove he was most likely <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/homosexuality">gay</a>.
“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/documentary">Lover of Men</a>” argues that the 16th president likely had several male lovers even after marrying his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Some historians have explored the subject, and it has become an urban legend in academic circles.
“We live in a homophobic society,” producer Rob Rosenheck said, per <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2024/09/06/abraham-lincoln-documentary-lover-of-men/75061112007/">USA Today</a>. “People keep talking about Lincoln&#8217;s queerness as a ‘theory’ or ‘myth,’ but you need to acknowledge the fact that it keeps coming up over and over and over again. The reason for that is because it&#8217;s part of our history and it won&#8217;t go away.”

“Do we really need to get into his personal life?” director Shaun Peterson said. “To me, there’s always a homophonic tinge to that. There have been thousands of writings about Lincoln and Mary having this fractured marriage. People are fine writing about a heteronormative relationship, but when it comes to the possibility of his love of men, it’s like, ‘Well, we shouldn’t dig that deep.’”
The documentary, which hit theaters on Thursday, claims Lincoln may have had sexual relationships with several men he shared beds with in the 1800s despite that being a common practice for heterosexual men of the time. 
The main suspected love affair presented in the film was between the former president and one of those bedmates, Joshua Speed. The two friends shared a bed for four years, and Lincoln spoke fondly of him after he moved away. Speed got married and stayed in touch with Lincoln by exchanging letters.
“You can see the passion on the page,” Peterson says. “Lincoln would write things like, ‘I miss you’ and ‘I’m jealous of your new wife, Joshua.’ He pours his heart out in these letters. Nowhere else in any of Lincoln’s work have you seen anything quite like it.”
The documentary also makes much out of the fact that Lincoln fell into a “suicidal depression” when Speed moved away, <a href="https://people.com/abraham-lincoln-documentary-biggest-bombshells-8706767">writing</a>, &#8220;I&#8217;m now the most miserable man living. If what I am feeling were distributed to the whole human family, there would not be a cheerful face on the earth.&#8221;
Another argument in favor of Lincoln being gay or bisexual stems from him and his wife having separate bedrooms in the White House. The couple had four children together.

Presidential historian Tom Balcerski said Lincoln was likely “sexually fluid” and everyone needs to get on board with that concept. 
“This next generation of Americans that we call Gen Z, they’re more queer and fluid than ever. They get this argument,” he said, per the outlet. “But talk about hitting your head against the wall trying to have this conversation with older folks.”

The long-awaited “Beetlejuice” sequel is currently tracking to set a near record when it debuts on September 6 across the country.
Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” hits theaters this week — 36 years after the first film came out — and the film currently looks to earn $100-$110 million at the domestic box office, based on advanced ticket sales and tracking data, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/beetlejuice-beetlejuice-box-office-preview-1235991724/">Hollywood Reporter</a> reported.
If those numbers hold, the highly-anticipated sequel will be able to claim the second-best opening of all time coming in behind the monster hit in September 2017 of &#8220;It,” which launched at $123 million, not adjusted for inflation.
However, Warner Bros is being more conservative and believes it will debut with $80 million plus, the outlet noted.
The current record holders for movies with the second-biggest September openings include Marvel’s 2021 “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” with $75.4 million and 2019’s “It Chapter Two” with $91.1 million.

The original film in 1988 grossed $74 million at the box office, or more than $195 million when adjusted for inflation, and became an instant cult classic.
Returning for the sequel are several stars of the original film, including actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-keaton-promises-beetlejuice-character-wont-be-politically-correct-in-sequel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Keaton</a> who famously played the bizarre lead character “Beetlejuice,” along with actress Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. Newcomers to the fantasy comedy include <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/jenna-ortega/">Jenna Ortega</a>, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, and Justin Theroux.
On his return to the maniacal “Beetlejuice” character, Keaton recently assured fans that his character, once again, does not accommodate the politically correct crowd.
The 72-year-old star said one of his stipulations for agreeing to participate in the sequel project 36 years later was not giving his titular character a lot of screen time, just like in the first film.
“The idea was, no, no, no, you can’t load it up with Beetlejuice, that’ll kill it,” Keaton told <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/michael-keaton-gq-hype">GQ</a>. “I think the Beetlejuice character doesn’t drive the story as much as he did in the first one. He’s more part of the storyline in this one as opposed to the first one, which is a case of, this thing comes in and drives the movie a little bit.”
In the 1988 fantasy horror film, Beetlejuice was only on screen for 17 minutes total. Keaton elaborated that Beetlejuice is an “it” but not because of society’s obsession with pronouns.
“He’s a thing. He’s more of a thing than a he or a she, he’s more of an it. And I’m not saying ‘it’ to be politically correct. I just viewed it as a force more than anything. I mean, there’s definitely strong male energy, like stupid male energy, which I love,” the actor explained. “You don’t want to touch that because it’s not like you go, ‘Well, it’s a new year and this thing would now act like that.’”

During an interview with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjZd3W7kgxc&amp;t=3s">MTV</a> about her upcoming movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the 21-year-old actress said she doesn’t think women should simply be swapped into movie roles previously given to men and said that actresses should have their own franchises.
“I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays, I think that’s so special, but we should have our own,” Ortega told the reporter. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff — I don’t want to see, like, ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another bada**.”

The comments echoed that of “James Bond” producer Barbara Broccoli, who previously said that she thought the next Bond should definitely be a male, and not a woman, as some at the time had suggested, The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/jenna-ortega-james-bond-franchises-1235990259/">Hollywood Reporter</a> noted.
“I think [the next James Bond] will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond,” Broccoli said in 2021. “I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles.”

“I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women,” she added. “He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”
“Knives Out&#8221; star and former &#8220;Bond girl &#8220;Ana de Armas made headlines when she also said there’s no reason for there to be a “female Bond” just in order to flip things around, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood">Hollywood</a> continues to do.
During an interview in 2022 with <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/19253997/ana-de-armas-bond-woman/">The Sun</a>, the then 34-year-old actress was asked about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bond-james-bond-he-him-future-007-could-be-non-binary-producer-says">reports</a> that the next installment in the James Bond franchise could consist of a “non-binary” Bond, meaning a person who doesn’t consider themselves either male or female.
“There’s no need for a female Bond,” the “Knives Out” star shared. “There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over. This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.&#8221;
“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way,” de Armas continued. “That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”

In a press release from the studio — that brought such hits as the faith-centered movies “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sound-of-freedom-beats-taylor-swift-to-finish-in-top-ten-at-2023-domestic-box-office">Sound of Freedom</a>” and “Cabrini” — it said that a new <a href="https://fansinvest.angel.com/">investment campaign</a> called <a href="https://usw2.nyl.as/t1/152/z15bycqxw9bdks98gnqfs3pj/1/a8d795f5db581da7c8f65722cb9905e35ffe90ccf523bac74c8e7a5d08a4e54a">Regulation A+ (Reg A+) </a>offering, has been a very successful way for the company to expand its Angel Guild, the community that drives the investment in projects to “distribute films and tv shows.”

Conservative commentator and podcast host Megyn Kelly had nothing but rave reviews for the upcoming Daily Wire documentary, “Am I Racist?” 
Kelly sat down with creator and Daily Wire host Matt Walsh to discuss what happened behind the scenes, including how Walsh was able to go undercover among the DEI crowd, including “White Fragility” author Robin D’Angelo.
“Everyone must see,” Kelly said. 
“If you watch this movie for no other reason, watch it to see the scene where Matt Walsh, in his man bun, sits down with Robin D’Angelo,” she added. “I died. Honestly, there were so many great moments in there, again I’ll keep them a secret, but one of my favorites was when the issue of what is mansplaining… and let’s just say you’ll laugh just as hard as Doug and I did when you get to that scene.”

Walsh is not in disguise at the beginning of the film, but after being recognized, he goes semi-incognito and dons a tweed jacket, skinny jeans, and a man bun, and carries a man bag equipped with a copy of Ibram X. Kendi’s “How to Be an Antiracist.”
Even with the change in fashion, Walsh still looked like himself. Kelly marveled that he was able to gain access to people like D’Angelo. The best-selling author is currently embattled in a scandal after being <a href="https://freebeacon.com/campus/robin-diangelo-plagiarized-minority-scholars-complaint-alleges/">accused</a> of plagiarism by several scholars, including minorities, in her 2004 dissertation. 
Walsh said he and the film crew used the participants’ “arrogance and false sense of security” to get interviews with people who appear in the film. He said they all live in such a “bubble” and rarely encounter people who disagree with them, which made it easier to infiltrate their ranks without an elaborate disguise.
Kelly also debuted a new clip from the documentary which shows Walsh speaking with anti-racist educator Kate Slater, known for creating what she calls an “anti-racist road map.”

Walsh responded by saying his 3-year-old daughter’s favorite princess is Moana, but said he was fearful of committing “cultural appropriation” by allowing her to dress like Moana for Halloween.
“Do I go and buy the Pacific Islander native attire for my white 3-year-old?” Walsh asked Slater, referring to it as “The Moana Problem.”
“I wouldn’t. I f***ing wouldn’t,” she replied.
“It’s almost like no matter which way you go, you end up back in racism,” the podcaster said.
Slater chalked it up to “living in a white supremacist society.”
“Is America an inherently racist country?” Walsh asked. Slater initially tried to avoid making a declarative statement by focusing on the word “inherent” and saying she couldn’t say that for sure. So Walsh tried another tactic. It was all in service of fulfilling the documentary’s mission of exposing the DEI grift.
After suggesting that America was “fundamentally” racist, Slater agreed.
“Fundamentally, yes, America is racist to its bones,” she said.

Daily Wire podcast host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/author/matt-walsh">Matt Walsh</a> recently joined <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/megyn-kelly">Megyn Kelly</a> to discuss his upcoming film, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/am-i-racist">Am I Racist?</a>,” including how he kept from laughing at the absurdity of the conversations he was having.
Kelly began by asking Walsh about how he stayed in character for his 2022 smash hit documentary “What is a Woman?,” and again with this latest project, which has the podcast host speaking with people who are fully indoctrinated by DEI propaganda.
Walsh said the question he gets asked a lot about the process of making these kinds of films is about how he keeps a straight face.
“The truth is, stopping myself from laughing is pretty easy, it turns out, because when you’re actually in the room doing this and you’re in the room with these people in real time … it’s pretty intense. And these are really unpleasant people most of the time.”
Walsh said looking back on these conversations may be humorous, but that “in the moment, it’s actually not all that funny” watching “grifters” trying to break down normal people.
“It’s like this brainwashing session that you see in the movie that goes on over and over again,” he added.
Kelly commended Walsh for putting “all the craziest DEI pushers” into a single film to show people what’s going on in this industry. “They hate America, and they really don’t much like white people,” she said.
The pair next discussed Walsh’s disguise and how he didn’t need to go to great lengths to conceal his identity. The podcast host mentioned how it’s probably because most of the people he encountered exist in a bubble and don’t often associate with anyone who disagrees with them.

Walsh said he and the film crew used the participants&#8217; “arrogance and false sense of security” to secure interviews with a variety of race hustlers, including “White Fragility” author Robin D’Angelo.
Next, Walsh spoke about the frivolity of getting a DEI certification card, which requires little effort yet is used by certain individuals to make themselves sound important. “It’s all completely made up and really all it’s about is showing ideological alignment with these race hustlers,” he said.
During the same conversation, Kelly debuted a new clip from “Am I Racist?,” which involves Walsh speaking with anti-racist educator Kate Slater, who is proud of developing the “anti-racist road map.”

A new biopic of President Ronald Reagan has earned nearly $10 million since premiering and clocked a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, exceeding expectations for the film’s success.
But this success was hardly a foregone conclusion. “Reagan,” directed by Sean McNamara and starring Dennis Quaid as the 40th president, hit several roadblocks on its way to the silver screen. First, the coronavirus pandemic, and then Hollywood strikes derailed production, and delayed the film’s premiere.
Looking back, McNamara sees these delays as “providential.”
“This film…was never intended to come out in an election year,” McNamara told The Daily Wire. “But now, in the wake of recent events, the film feels more urgent and relevant. Watching it today, especially with the backdrop of the recent assassination attempt and campus protests, it’s clear that history has a way of repeating itself. Reagan’s story, and his message, is one that we need to hear right now.”
“Reagan” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-new-trailer-for-reagan-movie-starring-dennis-quaid-just-released" target="_blank" rel="noopener">follows</a> the titular president from his childhood and Hollywood career through his time in politics. Told from the perspective of a fictional KGB agent, portrayed by Jon Voight, the film is based on Paul Kengor’s 2006 book, “The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism.”
There was another fortuitous result of “Reagan’s” delayed premiere. Sailors aboard the USS Ronald Reagan — who would have been deployed supporting operations including the withdrawal from Afghanistan at the time of the original premiere — were instead able to see the film and meet with McNamara and Voight at a special screening within their hangar bay.
&#8220;This was an incredible Reagan moment aboard USS Ronald Reagan,&#8221; Capt. Harry Evans III, Executive Officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;We pride ourselves in keeping President Reagan&#8217;s legacy alive by upholding the highest standards in everything we do.”

Chief Operations Specialist (Select) Shaun Jacob echoed the significance of the moment, calling it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…to learn more about President Reagan’s history.”
The opportunity to share “Reagan” with the sailors was a personal highlight for McNamara.
&#8220;It was amazing,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;I voted for Reagan in my first election, and to come full circle by creating this film and sharing it with those who serve on a ship bearing his name — it was a profound experience.”
Voight, a passionate defender of Reagan’s legacy, told The Daily Wire that the 40th president “believed in the strength of the American spirit” who “led by that example.”
“Every part of our history deserves and needs heroes,” Voight said. “John Paul II was a hero of that time. Reagan was a hero. Margaret Thatcher was a hero in my eyes. All lived and led and worked together during that dark time. And what is a hero? A hero stands up against lies and deceit and evil behavior.”

Voight also commented on the fortuitous timing of the film’s delayed release coinciding with a period of heightened political tension.
“It’s remarkable how history seems to echo itself,” he said. “With the current political climate and recent events, including the attempted assassination of President Trump and the ongoing student protests, the film’s portrayal of Reagan’s leadership and resilience resonates deeply. It reminds us of the importance of courage and conviction in the face of adversity.”
Voight told The Daily Wire he hopes that “Reagan” will inspire a renewed sense of patriotism in a divided country.
“This movie isn’t just about looking back at Reagan’s presidency; it’s about inspiring us to look forward with hope and unity,” Voight said. “Reagan’s legacy is a testament to the power of leadership and the need for each of us to rise above our differences and work together for a better future.”

The film, directed by Sean McNamara, stars Quaid as the former president and Penelope Ann Miller as his wife, Nancy. Academy Award winner Jon Voight has a supporting role. Mainstream critics had few good things to say about the film, but despite their negative reviews on <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/reagan_2024">Rotten Tomatoes</a>, the movie has a 98% audience rating on the review site’s new Popcornmeter compared to a 19% critical rating.

The biopic is based on the 2006 book “The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism” by Paul Kengor. Moviegoers gushed about the film&#8217;s performances and content.
&#8220;Oscar-winning performances for Quaid, Voight, and Miller in this heartfelt biopic that pays homage to one of America&#8217;s most beloved, admired, and effective Presidents. Standing ovation in a packed theater shows how the audience really loved the subject matter and film,&#8221; one reviewer wrote.

“That’s the thing between the impersonation and getting to the person about what makes them tick,” he said. “And there was that thing of Reagan I heard from everyone that knew him, there’s this impenetrable space that he always had that, you know, this is the ‘Great Communicator,’ quite jovial of a person, but there was this place that you couldn’t get past as well, a very private place. And I think that was always there with him from childhood, really.”

“<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/yellowstone">Yellowstone</a>” fans finally got their first peek at what the last season of the hit Paramount series will look like following the departure of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kevin-costner">Kevin Costner</a> from the show.
In a 30-second <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PXuYlrORpc">teaser clip</a> shared by the Paramount network on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PXuYlrORpc">YouTube</a>, a voice over of Costner can be heard while images of the Dutton family and ranch come across the screen, giving audiences an idea what to expect when the second half of Season 5 comes out in November — two years after the first half of Season 5 debuted, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/yellowstone-trailer-season5b-1235987773/">Hollywood Reporter</a> reported.
“Legacy … we build something worth having, someone&#8217;s going to try and take it,” Costner, who played head of family character John Dutton, said.
We then hear Jaime Dutton’s character (played by Wes Bentley) issue a warning to rival sister Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly), “You destroy me, you destroy yourself.”
Reilly’s character replied, “Unlike you, I keep my promises.”

The trailer dropped days after reports surfaced that Reilly and co-star Cole Hauser could be staying on board for another season despite all the reports that the original Dutton story with Costner will end after part 2 of season 5, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/yellowstone-season-6-kelly-reilly-cole-hauser-1235985253/">THR</a> noted. Paramount has yet to respond to the report.
The “Waterworld” star previously told <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/kevin-costner-gq-cover-story">GQ</a> that a scheduling conflict had nothing to do with his departure from the series amid reports that blamed him for halting production on the second half of the season due to filming for his western movie “Horizon: An American Saga-Chapter 1,” followed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/yellowstone-fans-get-major-update-about-series-return">reported</a>.
“They still haven’t shot it. As far as I know,” the actor said. “The scripts never came. And so then, at one point, they said to me that we don’t have an ending or anything.”
Costner said he offered options for killing off his character so he could make both work, saying, “‘Well, if you want to kill me, if you want to do something like that,’ I said, ‘I have a week before I start. I’ll do what you want to do.’”
The “Dances with Wolves” star said despite everything that has happened, he would be open to returning to the series, <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/05/yellowstone-season-5-part-2-release-date-cast-1235924863/?taid=664c12b263b61f0001608d43">Deadline</a> noted.
Paramount released a statement later to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/yellowstone-star-kevin-costner-offered-to-be-killed-off-hit-show-ill-do-what-you-want-to-do">Fox News</a> about Costner’s GQ comments and said that “Kevin has been a big part of ‘Yellowstone’s’ success.”
“While we had hoped that we would continue working with him, unfortunately, we could not find a window that worked for him, all the other talent, and our production needs in order to move forward together,” the statement read. “We respect that Kevin has prioritized his new film series and we wish him the best.”
The “Yellowstone” series focuses on the “Dutton family who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds and hard-earned respect — the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders — an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park,” <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/yellowstone-trailer-season5b-1235987773/">THR</a> noted.

Director Francis Ford Coppola promised that his new film, “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies">Megalopolis</a>,” won’t be filled with leftist propaganda like so many other <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Hollywood</a> films.
“What I didn’t want to happen is that we’re deemed some woke Hollywood production that’s simply lecturing viewers,” the director <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/francis-ford-coppola-megalopolis-the-godfather-1235068854/">told</a> Rolling Stone in a new interview. 
“The cast features people who were canceled at one point or another,” he continued. “There were people who are archconservatives and others who are extremely politically progressive. But we were all working on one film together. That was interesting, I thought.”

That star-studded roster includes Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight, who is vocally conservative and supports Donald Trump. His role in the film is said to be loosely based on Trump. 
Coppola also cast Shia LeBeouf, a former Disney Channel star who was accused of sexual assault in 2021. 
“Shia really took to it,” Coppola said. “I had no experience working with him prior to this, but he deliberately sets up a tension between himself and the director to an extreme degree. He reminds me of Dennis Hopper, who would do something similar, and then you’d say, ‘Just go do anything,’ and then they go off and do something brilliant.”
“Megalopolis” stars Adam Driver as architect Cesar Catilina, who has dreams of building a utopian city after a catastrophic incident destroys a large city resembling New York. His plans receive pushback from various characters and support from others. 
Other big-name stars in the production include Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D. B. Sweeney, and Dustin Hoffman.
The film received mixed reviews after it premiered at Cannes earlier this year. 
Deadline reviewer Damon Wise <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/05/megalopolis-review-francis-ford-coppola-1235919389/">called</a> the movie a “mad modern masterwork that reinvents the possibilities of cinema.” He said &#8220;Megalopolis&#8221; is “something of a mess; unruly, exaggerated and drawn to pretension like a moth to a flame” but is also “a pretty stunning achievement.”

Indiewire writer David Ehrlich said the spectacle was the point. “The silliness is a feature, not a bug!” he <a href="https://x.com/davidehrlich/status/1791189595411083584">wrote</a> of the movie on X. “A garish, epic, &amp; utterly singular $120 million self-portrait that’s also a fable about the fall of ancient Rome &amp; a plea to save our civilization (and its cinema) from itself. big fan.”
Meanwhile, the reviewer from The Guardian gave it two stars, describing the project as “megabloated and megaboring.”
A trailer for the film was taken down last week after it was discovered that it contained fake and misattributed critic quotes, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lionsgate-yanks-megalopolis-trailer-apologizes-for-fake-critic-quotes-we-screwed-up">reported</a>.
