A resident of Dearborn, Michigan, accused the city of promoting Islam with city funds while discriminating against other religions. 
The city funded decorations for the Islamic religious celebration of Ramadan while ignoring requests for equal recognition for Christian and Jewish holidays, <a href="https://www.americanfreedomlawcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Complaint-Cleveland-v-City-of-Dearborn-Filed.pdf">according</a> to a lawsuit filed in federal court on Thursday. Additionally, the suit accused the city and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, a Democrat, of violating the constitutional rights of non-Muslims.
“By selectively permitting and promoting religious expression for Muslims but denying similar expression for Christians and Jews, as set forth in this Complaint, Defendants have conveyed and effected governmental preference for one faith tradition over another,” argues the lawsuit filed by Margot Cleveland, a Dearborn resident and senior legal correspondent for The Federalist. 
Dearborn is home to the largest per capita Muslim population in the United States and more than 50% of its residents have roots in the Middle East or North Africa. Over the weekend, federal agents <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-bust-saddam-hussein-associate-hiding-in-u-s-muslim-hotspot?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Of+Course+This+Is+Where+A+Saddam+Hussein+Henchman+Was+Found+Hiding+In+America">arrested</a> a former intelligence officer under Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein who was hiding out in the city. 
Cleveland’s <a href="https://www.americanfreedomlawcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Complaint-Cleveland-v-City-of-Dearborn-Filed.pdf">lawsuit</a>, filed by the American Freedom Law Center, said that she was in downtown Dearborn in April 2025 when she noticed city-sponsored banners celebrating Ramadan and a crescent moon display erected in a public park.

Through subsequent public records requests, Cleveland found that the city spent thousands of taxpayer dollars on the religious decorations and created Ramadan-themed T-shirts for the police department. Cleveland said the decorations constituted “a governmental endorsement and promotion of the Islamic faith.”
Other records revealed that Hammoud held a private religious event paid for by city funds. 
Cleveland’s suit said the city “has never commissioned a comparable City-sponsored street light, banner, or park display program to mark Easter, Passover, Christmas, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, or any other Christian or Jewish observance.”
The lawsuit also said that Hammoud was openly hostile to Christians. It quoted one <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/muslim-mayor-in-dearborn-michigan-tells-christian-resident-you-are-not-welcome-here" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viral exchange</a> where the mayor told a Christian pastor who spoke in opposition to naming a street in the city after a supporter of designated terrorist organizations that he was not welcome in the city. 
“And although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of the city . . . because you are not somebody who believes in coexistence,” Hammoud said. 
Cleveland’s suit claims Hammoud violated her First Amendment speech rights by directing city officials not to speak with her and by not providing equal recognition for Christian or Jewish holidays. The Daily Wire reached out to the city for comment. 
Islam&#8217;s growing presence in Michigan has become more established in recent years and has become a focus with Democrat Abdul El-Sayed&#8217;s bid to be the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate.
Last month, the sheik of a mosque in Dearborn Heights <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dearborn-sheikh-declares-muslims-will-build-america-on-islam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> that Islam and the Shiite faith are “coming to America” and said its adherents would help “build America.”
“We will build America on the basis of moral civilization and Islam,” said Sheikh Ibrahim Yassine. “What they have is no civilization. It is nothing but worldly life, nothing but technology. For them, civilization means killing nations and plundering their resources, even if it means killing all the people.”

With less than two weeks to go before the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed is raising eyebrows with deleted social media posts that reference 9/11.
El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign told Politico earlier in the campaign that he&#8217;d deleted all tweets posted prior to July 2023 in an effort &#8220;to prevent any old posts from being taken out of context&#8221; — but the posts that have resurfaced in the time since then have only sparked more questions.
Two of the deleted posts — originally shared in 2020 — were evaluated in a <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/abdul-el-sayed-deleted-social-media-sept-11-attacks-michigan/">report</a> published Monday by CBS News and showed El-Sayed comparing the American lives lost in the terrorist attacks to those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In one 2020 post, CBS reported that El-Sayed argued for a national mobilization to combat COVID that mirrored the response to the 9/11 attacks — while in another from that same timeframe he argued as the COVID death toll eclipsed the number killed on 9/11, he hoped &#8220;that means we&#8217;ll spend the next ten years fighting a war for public health &amp; against poverty &#8230; like we launched a global #WaronTerror after 9/11. We could save lives rather than take them.&#8221;
A third post from 2021 — shared on the 20th anniversary of the attacks — was first reported by The Washington Free Beacon, and appeared to suggest that America&#8217;s actions against terrorist organizations were just as bad as the terrorist attacks that had prompted them.
&#8220;Today, I mourn the 3K lives, 6K injuries, &amp; infrastructural devastation in NYC, perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my faith. Tomorrow, I&#8217;ll mourn ~1M lives, millions of injuries, &amp; infrastructural devastation in 3 countries, perpetuated ignorantly in the name of my country,&#8221; he said.
Matt Grossmann, a political scientist at Michigan State University, told CBS News that he didn&#8217;t believe a deleted tweet or two would necessarily herald the end of El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign — but the threat they posed was in the likelihood that they&#8217;d bolster the overall perception that the candidate&#8217;s views were too extreme.
&#8220;Is any specific tweet going to matter for the general election? It seems unlikely,&#8221; Grossmann explained. &#8220;But does the general impression that he might be too extreme [&#8230;] will that make a difference? That has a bigger chance of doing so.&#8221;
Toward that end, El-Sayed&#8217;s continued association with socialist Twitch streamer and Mao Zedong superfan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-gives-el-sayed-a-chance-to-renounce-hasan-piker-he-does-the-opposite">Hasan Piker</a> — who cheerleads for terror groups like Hezbollah and claimed that &#8220;America deserved 911&#8221; — might ultimately prove to be the political baggage he&#8217;s unable to shed.

President Donald Trump’s allied super PAC is taking its $400 million war chest into the midterms, beginning with a Michigan rally headlined by Vice President JD Vance and featuring several of the state’s top Republican candidates.
MAGA Inc. announced Thursday that Vance will appear Monday in Sterling Heights alongside Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers, gubernatorial nominee Rep. John James, and 10th Congressional District nominee Mike Bouchard Jr.
“MAGA Inc. will be hosting events throughout the nation to ensure that Republicans retain control of Congress in order to finish cleaning up the mess the Biden-Harris-Pelosi-Schumer Democrats left,” MAGA Inc. spokesman Alex Pfeiffer told <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2026/08/27/congress/maga-inc-michigan-event-midterms-jd-vance-01053671">Politico</a>. “We’re not going back to their record inflation, open borders, and surging crime.&#8221;
The event marks one of MAGA Inc.’s first major public moves of the general election after sitting on a massive cash reserve during the 2026 cycle so far.
MAGA Inc. reported more than $400 million in cash on hand heading into the general election, giving Trump&#8217;s political operation enormous financial resources to deploy during the campaign&#8217;s final months.  Republican candidates and party officials have spent months pressing Trump and his political operation to begin putting that money to work in competitive races.
Until recently, however, MAGA Inc. had spent only a small fraction of its available funds. The group’s most significant recent expenditure came Monday, when it spent $827,711 on phone calls and text messages <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-unloads-campaign-war-chest-for-the-first-time-of-2026-in-a-gop-primary?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Unloads+Campaign+War+Chest+For+The+First+Time+Of+2026+%E2%80%94+In+A+GOP+Primary">supporting Sen. Darline Graham</a> in the South Carolina Republican runoff. 
The Michigan rally represents a different kind of move: a public event designed to put the Trump administration’s most prominent surrogate alongside multiple candidates in a key battleground state.
Rogers, a former congressman and Army veteran, is running to claim Michigan’s open Senate seat for Republicans after winning the GOP nomination. He will face Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, the left-wing former Detroit health official who emerged from a bruising Democratic primary earlier this month. 
Republicans have identified Michigan as one of their most promising Senate pickup opportunities as they attempt to defend their majority in the upper chamber.
James, who currently serves in Congress, is running for governor after two unsuccessful campaigns for the Senate. Bouchard is seeking the open House seat in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District.
MAGA Inc.&#8217;s reserve adds to a significant Republican financial advantage. GOP committees and allied congressional super PACs reported roughly $657 million in cash on hand at the end of June, compared with approximately $334 million for their Democratic counterparts. MAGA Inc.’s more than $400 million reserve sits outside those figures.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-democrats-cash-crunch-and-what-it-means-for-2026-and-beyond">Democrats are also confronting financial difficulties</a> at the national party level. The Democratic National Committee reported only $16.3 million in cash on hand and $18.5 million in debt at the end of June. By comparison, the Republican National Committee reported $128.5 million in cash and no debt.
Despite that financial advantage, Republicans still face the historical challenge confronting the party that controls the White House during a midterm election.
Trump has promised to spend heavily on Republican candidates as Election Day approaches.

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed compared Sharia Law to Canon Law when he was pressed by Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday night on a past eyebrow-raising statement about America&#8217;s opposition to Sharia.
During an interview on &#8220;Jesse Watters Primetime,&#8221; El-Sayed, a Muslim, was confronted with a statement he made in 2022 when he argued that white supremacist forces are behind the effort to prevent Sharia Law from being implemented in America.
&#8220;So getting rid of Sharia Law is white supremacy? Can you explain that one?&#8221; Watters asked.
El-Sayed replied with his own question, &#8220;Do you know what Canon Law is, Jesse? I assume you&#8217;re a Christian, right? So Canon Law is the name for Christian law. I don&#8217;t begrudge you and your right to practice your faith as you choose. I don&#8217;t know why the idea that I could practice my faith that I choose is a problem.&#8221;
&#8220;Nobody is trying to push Sharia Law on anyone else. Just like I hope nobody is trying to push Canon Law on anybody else because we live in an America where you should have the freedom of religion,&#8221; El-Sayed added.
El-Sayed&#8217;s comparison doesn&#8217;t quite match up. Canon Law is the Christian system of rules and practices set up for leaders and members within a specific church. Sharia Law, meanwhile, encompasses rituals practiced within the Muslim faith while also setting up rules for legal systems and public practices.
Extremist Muslim nations, including Iran and Afghanistan, are completely under Sharia Law for their governmental systems. The implementation of Sharia Law in these Middle East countries has led to numerous human rights violations and extreme punishments for so-called lawbreakers, which typically target and oppress women, Christians, and people who identify as LGBT.
In many Muslim-majority nations around the world, Sharia Law is incorporated into public life and used as the basis in civil law — such as for marriage and divorce — while the government adheres to more Western principles.
During his interview with Watters, El-Sayed slammed efforts to ban Sharia Law from being implemented in U.S. legal systems, calling out one bill proposed by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). El-Sayed said that such efforts are &#8220;deliberately targeting the Muslim community because they&#8217;re different,&#8221; adding, &#8220;As if somehow Muslims are out here trying to push Sharia Law.&#8221;
&#8220;I would never want someone to push their faith on me, and I would never push my faith on somebody else,&#8221; he added. &#8220;When people preemptively go out there and start preemptively passing laws to ban something that&#8217;s not happening, what you&#8217;re trying to do is target a very small community because they&#8217;re different.&#8221;
Watters shot back, saying, &#8220;Sharia Law in Michigan is kind of scary. People don&#8217;t go for that. You know, it&#8217;s like men and women [aren&#8217;t equal], it&#8217;s like physical punishments. People don&#8217;t like that in Michigan. I&#8217;m just saying I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s a good position.&#8221;
&#8220;Nobody is pushing it,&#8221; El-Sayed said. &#8220;You know what the issue is in Michigan. The issue that people are worried about is not that someone is going to come and put Sharia Law on them. The issue in Michigan is people are worried about how they&#8217;re going to afford their gas. The issue in Michigan is how am I going to see a doctor when I get sick? How am I going to keep my job?&#8221;
In a 2009 interview with The New York Times, El-Sayed said that he had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abdul-el-sayed-dedicated-his-life-to-sharia-law">dedicated</a> his life to Sharia Law. In the interview, he was asked about buying his first home, and he said that he had chosen a Sharia-compliant mortgage that avoided interest, which Islamic law prohibits.
“Ultimately, the question is, when I die and I stand before God and go through everything I did in my life, I don’t want to say I did it the easy way instead of the Shariah-compliant way. Not because of fear but because of obligation,&#8221; he said.

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who regularly rails against Israeli influence on American elections, had no issue speaking at a conference aimed at influencing the politics of a foreign country over the weekend.
Surrounded by Pakistani flags, El-Sayed spoke at the Pakistan Association of America in Metro Detroit on Sunday, celebrating the 79th anniversary of Pakistani independence and calling for an end to military rule in the South Asian country, The Detroit Free Press <a href="https://x.com/nwarikoo/status/2091643859272945749">reported</a>. He also compared the fight for democracy in Pakistan to his party&#8217;s efforts against President Donald Trump.
&#8220;I&#8217;m so honored to be here with you today to celebrate Pakistani independence, but I do want to speak specifically to this moment right now because the only reason I could be running for office is because I was born in these United States of America because of an accident of history,&#8221; El-Sayed said.
&#8220;Democracy is a precious thing. It is a beautiful thing,&#8221; El-Sayed added. &#8220;And it operates on a knife&#8217;s edge, and we see that in these United States right now under a president who threatens the very ideals of democracy itself.&#8221;
El-Sayed went on to condemn the current regime in Pakistan that has jailed its political opponents, including the former prime minister. The Democratic candidate, who routinely bashes the American Israel Public Affairs Committee&#8217;s (AIPAC) activities in U.S. elections, did not hesitate to push for major reforms in Pakistan while speaking at the Pakistan Association of America gathering.
El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign did not respond to The Daily Wire&#8217;s request for comment.
The leftist Muslim made his opposition to Israel and AIPAC a central part of his Senate primary campaign against Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI), who was backed by AIPAC. El-Sayed regularly highlights how AIPAC and its affiliated groups <a href="https://www.ap.org/news-highlights/elections/2026/aipac-has-spent-a-record-amount-on-michigans-senate-primary-the-biggest-test-of-its-influence-yet/">spent</a> roughly $30 million backing Stevens in the primary. In June, El-Sayed warned that he was &#8220;coming for the system that tells us that the best way to run and win campaigns is to take money from corporations and special interests like AIPAC,&#8221; adding that Israel was “the most egregious example” of foreign governments attempting to influence U.S. elections.
While El-Sayed touts himself as the candidate pushing back against foreign influence, questions have also been raised about outside influences on his own campaign. On Monday, The Midwesterner <a href="https://www.themidwesterner.news/2026/08/egyptian-sentenced-to-life-for-funding-muslim-brotherhood-giving-money-to-abdul-el-sayeds-u-s-senate-campaign/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign is benefiting from thousands of dollars from an Egyptian-American activist who was sentenced to life in prison for helping radicals in the Muslim Brotherhood.
Mohamed Soltan, 38, the president of the American Committee for Middle East Rights, has made at least two contributions to El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign. Soltan&#8217;s organization has also donated $25,000 to the Fighting for Michigan PAC, which was created to support El-Sayed.
Soltan faced charges related to aiding protests against the military coup that ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in 2013, including accusations that he funded and belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood. Soltan disputed the charges. He was released from prison in 2015 after pressure from the Obama administration.
El-Sayed&#8217;s birth mother, Fatten Fathy Elkomy, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abdul-el-sayeds-mother-worked-for-terror-group-that-funded-bin-laden-and-taliban">worked</a> for an Islamic charity later designated by the U.S. government as a supporter of terrorism after the organization was accused of funneling funds to Osama bin Laden, the Taliban, and Hamas. El-Sayed has said little about his birth mother and said that his stepmother and grandparents mostly influenced him after Elkomy and his father divorced.
El-Sayed also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abdul-el-sayed-displayed-book-written-by-extremist-tied-to-1993-world-trade-center-attack?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Abdul+El-Sayed+Displayed+Book+Written+By+Extremist+Tied+To+1993+World+Trade+Center+Attack">displayed a book</a> written by an Islamic scholar linked to the 1993 World Trade Center terrorist attack, the Washington Free Beacon first reported. The book, called “Dream Interpretation According to the Qur’an,” was written by Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, an Islamic scholar listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the first bombing attack on New York’s World Trade Center. The book was just one of several tied to radical Islam seen on the bookshelf that El-Sayed attempted to hide from cameras in resurfaced documentary footage.
El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign responded, saying, &#8220;This was not Abdul’s bookshelf.&#8221; The campaign added, &#8220;Abdul is a doctor and Rhodes Scholar who reads widely, including authors whose views he may disagree with. A book appearing in the background of documentary footage is not an endorsement of its content nor a reflection of his beliefs.&#8221;
The Democrat has campaigned with Marxist streamer Hasan Piker, who said that &#8220;America deserved 9/11.&#8221; El-Sayed is also scheduled to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/el-sayed-to-speak-at-conference-that-will-include-cleric-who-forced-13-year-old-into-marriage?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=El-Sayed+To+Headline+Convention+With+Cleric+Who+Loves+Child+Marriage">headline a conference</a> organized by the Islamic Society of North America over Labor Day weekend. El-Sayed&#8217;s panel is set to address &#8220;Cultivating God Awareness in a Turmoiled America&#8221; alongside Cenk Uygur, the radical-leftist founder of The Young Turks and Piker&#8217;s uncle.
Allies of Republican Mike Rogers, who&#8217;s running against El-Sayed in the general election, are <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mike-rogers-allies-urge-aipac-to-stay-out-of-michigan-senate-race">reportedly</a> asking AIPAC to back off plans to broadcast its support for Rogers. Axios reported that Rogers met with AIPAC chairman Michael Tuchin earlier this month before the organization held off on releasing an ad attacking El-Sayed.

A visit to Michigan from potential 2028 presidential candidate Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) was characterized by botched meetings and fundraisers, according to a new report. 
Newsom spent the first half of this week campaigning and fundraising for Democrats in Michigan while stopping for a photo op at the University of Michigan&#8217;s famed “Big House” football stadium. The visit to the critical swing state didn’t exactly go as planned, according to a <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2026/08/12/newsoms-swing-and-miss-state-tour-01035105">report</a> from Politico’s Playbook. 
Politico reported on Wednesday that interviews with multiple Michigan Democrats raised &#8220;questions about the coastal leader’s resonance in the middle of the country and political operation following one of his most in-depth, high-touch early state trips this year.”
Newsom has long been considered one of the top contenders for the Democratic nomination, but some recent polls show his chances falling. One <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-new-2028-poll-just-shook-up-both-parties">survey</a> out of New Hampshire showed Newsom trailing Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) by 14 points and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg by 13 points.
An unnamed Democrat “insider” told Politico that Newsom&#8217;s Michigan trip was “rushed” while another person rated the trip as a “B-minus.&#8221;
Several top Democrats in the state also said they missed out on connecting with Newsom. Democratic National Committee Black Caucus chair Virgie Rollins complained that she didn’t get a meeting with Newsom — even though Politico reported a representative for Newsom did reach out to her on August 7. 
“Every Democratic president that has won an election has been in my house,” she said. “I did not hear from him. I did not get a call.”
Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), a member of the influential Rules and Bylaws Committee for the DNC, said she did not meet with Newsom either. She referenced her support for auto manufacturing while Newsom has pushed stringent environmental standards that aim to ban the sale or production of gas vehicles by 2035. 
“I didn’t hear from the governor. I didn&#8217;t expect to: I’m a car girl,” she said. 
Additionally, a meeting between the powerful United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain did not happen despite efforts from the Newsom team. 
During the trip, two scheduled fundraiser appearances by Newsom fell through. One was for state House Democrats that ended up being called off by participants, while another for Democrat attorney general candidate Eli Savit was canceled by Newsom. That event was set to feature fundraiser Kelly Neumann, who has faced backlash for a Veterans Day post where she <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/21/us-news/michigans-abdul-el-sayed-to-attend-fundraiser-hosted-by-lawyer-in-nazi-flap/">revealed</a> her grandfather “was on the German side in WWI &amp; WWII.” 
Newsom did meet with Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel. He also met with Michigan Democratic Senator Elissa Slotkin.
“I doubt that it will be the governor’s last time here,” Hertel said. “There will be plenty of opportunities the next time he’s here, too.”

Gavin Newsom Gets Rude Awakening During Swing-State Visit

David Duke, the former leader of the Ku Klux Klan and avowed racist, attempted to conduct a hostile infiltration of the Republican Party in the early 1990s.
Duke won a state legislative seat as a Republican in Louisiana in 1989, and then ran for Senate in 1990 and then governor in 1991. He lost the Senate race amid Republican consternation about what he was doing, but 1991 became the real showdown. When Duke tried to become governor, and advanced to the final runoff for the seat after winning over 30% of the vote in the jungle primary, the GOP kicked into action.
Republicans across the country, and in Louisiana, disavowed Duke and urged their supporters not to vote for him. This went all the way up to President George H.W. Bush, who urged voters to reject him. Louisiana&#8217;s sitting Republican governor, who Duke defeated in the primary, told people to vote against him. Some Republicans even outright endorsed his Democratic opponent, who was renowned for being corrupt.
Duke lost by over 20 points.
You might rightly point out that this was nearly 40 years ago, during a different time in American politics, so let&#8217;s get more current. In 2016, the Republican establishment went to great lengths to stop Donald Trump from becoming their presidential nominee. (I want to be crystal clear here, I am not comparing Donald Trump to David Duke — just the two situations where an insurgent force was resisted by Party leaders.)
Major conservative institutions of the time — from National Review to Club for Growth — actively worked to stop Trump during the primary. Mitt Romney gave a speech during the race denouncing him and urging voters to get behind whoever was most likely to defeat Trump in their state. At the RNC, when Trump was already the nominee, Ted Cruz gave a speech where he went out of his way to tell people to &#8220;vote their conscience.&#8221; When the Access Hollywood tape came out, just weeks before the election, prominent Republicans again denounced their own candidate.
That takes us to today. There&#8217;s been much talk of a &#8220;Democratic Civil War&#8221; going on, but I&#8217;m just not seeing it. The war is over, and much like they often do in the Middle East, the Islamist insurgents have won.
Democrats have had some heated primary fights. Mamdani v. Cuomo, the New York DSA challengers, El-Sayed v. Stevens. But even then, prominent leaders in the party have largely stayed out. To Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer&#8217;s credit, she was really the only heavy hitter to outright endorse Stevens over El-Sayed.
El-Sayed proceeded to win by around 15,000 votes in an election where 1.5 million were cast. Democrats could&#8217;ve easily stopped him if they threw their whole weight behind Stevens, but they didn&#8217;t.
Now, after his victory, every top Democrat is getting in line.
Chuck Schumer, who has the survival instinct of a hen in a foxes&#8217; den, endorsed El-Sayed at the same time El-Sayed said he wanted to see Schumer replaced as Senate minority leader.
The El-Sayed development is particularly shocking because he is not even pretending to play nice. He said he wants to put John Fetterman&#8217;s head on a pike as a warning to other Democrats. He is campaigning to overthrow Democratic leadership, and has already threatened to undermine 2028 Democratic presidential candidates if they don&#8217;t meet his demands.
Even David Duke spent years trying to soften his image before his political runs, maintaining the same racism but in a shift, obfuscating tone to try to appeal to the masses. El-Sayed hasn&#8217;t moderated an inch.
He is taking the party hostage, and rather than resist it, the party is handing him the zip ties and machine gun he&#8217;s going to do it with.
Only a few brave Democrats have spoken out. Rep. Hillary Scholten and Fetterman have said they won&#8217;t support him. But his own primary opponent, Stevens, has gotten on board like a true coward. Schumer is behind him. Kamala Harris is fundraising for him. Michigan&#8217;s other senator, Elissa Slotkin, ostensibly a moderate and definitely a presidential hopeful, is supporting him.
Where is Barack Obama? Hell, where is Joe Biden? Where is Nancy Pelosi? These people could have stopped this force in its tracks if they really tried, and they still could, but they are choosing not to.
These people are signing their own political death warrants, and I truly feel like I&#8217;m experiencing some sort of psychotic episode watching it.
What&#8217;s in this for Chuck Schumer, exactly? The man is 75 years old. He has no future. If he runs for Senate again in 2028, he will likely lose to a left-wing primary challenger, especially if that challenger is AOC. At his age, he might not run again at all.
Schumer often touts being the highest-elected Jew in America. He has been a staunch supporter of Israel his entire career, and has a role as his party&#8217;s senate leader to shepherd it in the most effective way possible, not be an activist.
There&#8217;s basically no downside to him taking his stand here and saying enough is enough, I will not go along with this. Instead he will die leaving a legacy of feckless cowardice in the face of demonic anti-Americanism.
So spare me the talk of a Democratic &#8220;civil war.&#8221; It&#8217;s not a war if one side never fires a shot back.

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is rolling out a new organizing strategy aimed at turning ordinary online spaces — including family group chats, neighborhood Facebook groups, and alumni networks — into vehicles for Democratic messaging as he continues expanding his national political operation ahead of a potential 2028 presidential campaign.
Newsom&#8217;s federal political action committee, Campaign for Democracy, emailed supporters this week inviting them to join a new digital volunteer program designed to spread Democratic messaging through personal relationships rather than traditional campaign advertisements, The <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/08/06/us-news/gavin-newsom-recruits-supporters-to-spread-campaign-messages-in-family-group-chats/">New York Post</a> reported.
The program centers on training volunteers to carry campaign-approved messaging into online communities where politics is typically not the focus. &#8220;A lot of those spaces aren&#8217;t political at all,&#8221; the email states. &#8220;That&#8217;s the point.&#8221; 
Rather than asking supporters to simply repost campaign content, the PAC says volunteers will receive weekly training and messaging that they are encouraged to rewrite in their own words before sharing with friends, relatives, classmates, and other acquaintances. &#8220;So the task isn&#8217;t forwarding talking points or propaganda,&#8221; the email explains. &#8220;It&#8217;s taking what we send you and translating it for people you understand better than we do.&#8221;
The email argues that trusted personal relationships provide an opportunity campaigns cannot replicate through conventional advertising. &#8220;The person already in that room is the only one who can get a message in, and the only one who knows how to say it so it doesn&#8217;t feel out of place,&#8221; it says.
Supporters who enroll will participate in weekly virtual training sessions over the next eight weeks and use a web application called &#8220;Echo&#8221; to distribute campaign messaging through their existing online networks.
Political consultant Matthew Klink criticized the organizing strategy, arguing it further blurs the line between everyday social interactions and partisan politics. 
&#8220;The Left has this preoccupation of making everything political and this is carrying it to another extreme,&#8221; Klink told the Post. &#8220;We joke that families are already divided by talking politics at the dinner table — this is that on steroids.&#8221;
According to Newsom&#8217;s PAC, volunteers will receive messaging supporting Democratic candidates in competitive races across the country, including Nevada gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford and New Hampshire Senate candidate Chris Pappas — two contests that could prove important to Democratic electoral prospects while also raising Newsom&#8217;s visibility in states expected to play significant roles during the next presidential nominating process.
The effort comes as Newsom continues building a national political infrastructure widely viewed as laying the groundwork for a 2028 White House bid, even as he continues to publicly decline to say whether he intends to run.
Newsom&#8217;s political team has framed the new initiative as part of a broader effort to help Democrats perform well in the 2026 midterms. 
&#8220;This is smart political organizing: empowering real people to persuade the people they know best,&#8221; Newsom spokesman Izzy Gardon told the Post.
Gardon emphasized that the effort relies on volunteers rather than paid influencers and said Newsom has used his national political organization to raise millions of dollars for Democratic candidates.
The digital organizing campaign coincides with Newsom&#8217;s increasingly aggressive national travel schedule. This weekend, Newsom will spend three days <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/gavin-newsom-michigan-democrats-22376220.php">campaigning in Michigan</a> following the Democratic primary victories of several Left-wing candidates, including Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
Newsom quickly endorsed El-Sayed after his primary victory and plans to campaign for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot while meeting with black community leaders, students, labor activists, and grassroots organizers.
The Michigan trip follows similar campaign appearances in other battleground states and adds to Newsom&#8217;s growing national profile as Democrats position themselves for both the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential cycle.

Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Justice Democrats, and other Left-wing organizations that have spent the past year targeting incumbent Democrats they view as insufficiently aligned with the party&#8217;s activist base.
Thanedar&#8217;s defeat came alongside another major victory for the Democratic Party&#8217;s Left flank. Since then, he increasingly positioned himself as one of Congress&#8217; more outspoken pro-Israel Democrats while repeatedly introducing articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump — efforts that frustrated many fellow Democrats and were never embraced by party leadership.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) endorsed Thanedar despite lingering frustrations over his impeachment efforts, but the backing failed to stop an organized far-Left campaign that portrayed the incumbent as out of step with his Detroit-based district.
McKinney campaigned on Medicare for All, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, restricting military aid to Israel, and expanding federal spending on housing and clean energy. He also emphasized his upbringing in Detroit and contrasted his background with Thanedar&#8217;s, arguing the district deserved representation more closely tied to the community. Justice Democrats made Thanedar one of its top targets this cycle, spending nearly $1 million to help elect McKinney, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/08/05/thanedar-loses-michigan-house-primary-01025173">Politico</a>.
After conceding the race, Thanedar acknowledged the broader political forces that had overtaken his campaign. &#8220;The socialist movement that has defeated many sitting members in New York and elsewhere has come to Michigan, and we came out short,&#8221; Thanedar <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/05/us/politics/michigan-house-primary-mckinney-thanedar.html">told reporters</a>, while pledging to support McKinney in the general election.
Democratic Socialists of America-backed candidates have already unseated multiple incumbent House Democrats in New York and Colorado, while socialist-aligned candidates have scored victories in municipal races from New York City to Denver.
McKinney is expected to cruise to victory in the safely Democratic 13th District this fall, while El-Sayed and Lawrence now head into competitive general elections that Republicans hope will become referendums on the Democratic Party&#8217;s increasingly leftist direction.

Michigan Democrats on Tuesday elevated leftist firebrand Abdul El-Sayed to the party&#8217;s U.S. Senate nomination, marking the biggest triumph yet for the ascendant far-Left and a humiliating defeat for the establishment&#8217;s old guard, who failed to stop him from advancing to a pivotal November clash with Trump-endorsed Republican Mike Rogers.
With over 95% of the vote counted and after voters waited for Wayne County&#8217;s slow counting process, El-Sayed was finally projected to win Wednesday morning. Decision Desk HQ called the race at 8:35 a.m. ET, with El-Sayed at 48.9% to Stevens&#8217; 47.5%.
Early results showed El-Sayed, the former public health director for Detroit, performing stronger than expected across multiple counties. Stevens, a four-term congresswoman from the Detroit suburbs, performed the best in areas where most of the state&#8217;s black voters live, such as Wayne, Oakland, and Genesee Counties. El-Sayed, meanwhile, outperformed his benchmarks among younger voters while Stevens severely underperformed among older voters, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/08/04/us/elections/results-michigan-us-senate-primary.html">election data</a>.
Tuesday&#8217;s result caps a bruising primary and highlights the Democratic Party&#8217;s accelerating ideological shift, with the establishment failing to stop the socialist-aligned Left nationwide. In many of those races, party leaders ultimately chose accommodation over confrontation, reluctantly uniting behind nominees they had once viewed as too extreme. Michigan marked the first major exception. With control of the Senate potentially at stake, Democratic heavyweights rallied behind Stevens, fearing El-Sayed could give the GOP a ripe opportunity to flip a Senate seat and hold the upper chamber. 
High-profile establishment Democrats, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/things-just-got-harder-for-abdul-el-sayed?author=Blake+Schaper&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Major+Establishment+Democrat+Plants+Flag+Against+Abdul+El-Sayed">endorsed</a> Stevens.
“Just like me, Haley will do whatever it takes to get things done for the people of Michigan, and we need her now more than ever,” Whitmer said in a video <a href="https://x.com/gretchenwhitmer">posted</a> to X last month.
Stevens, who went viral for her quirky “<a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/2077370465522155935?s=20">stick it to them</a>” slogan, celebrated the endorsement, calling Whitmer “a champion for our state” who understands “the stakes of this race.”
It made little difference to an increasingly frustrated Democratic electorate that blames the party&#8217;s old guard for paving the way for President Trump&#8217;s election and return to power.
If elected, El-Sayed would become America’s first Muslim senator. His parents are both Egyptian immigrants, and his father <a href="https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2018/0329/Can-a-Michigan-doctor-become-America-s-first-Muslim-governor">was a part-time imam</a>, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-islamist-marxist-takeover-of-middle-america">The Daily Wire</a> previously reported. His father-in-law <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/abdul-el-sayeds-father-in-law-a-top-donor-to-an-el-sayed-super-pac-is-among-top-leaders-of-muslim-brotherhood-organization-linked-to-terror-funding/">is a founding committee member </a>of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), which has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the federal government.

In the mold of other leftist primaries, Israel emerged as one of the race&#8217;s defining issues. Stevens has embraced her identity as a &#8220;proud pro-Israel Democrat&#8221; and benefited from roughly $25 million in support from AIPAC, <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00799031/2001984/se">according to FEC filings,</a> while El-Sayed has called Israel&#8217;s war in Gaza a &#8220;genocide&#8221; and opposes U.S. military aid to Israel.
One El-Sayed voter <a href="https://x.com/JWheelertv/status/2084781813067600313?s=20">told NBC</a> his friend group under 25 won&#8217;t vote for any Democratic nominee who supports Israel, saying the party will have only itself to blame if Republican Mike Rogers wins the seat.
At a recent debate, El-Sayed turned his ire on Stevens over a recent vote for U.S. military aid to Israel. 
“Just last week, our friend here voted to send $3.3 billion of your tax dollars to a foreign government. That is the pro quo that comes with a quid of $30 million spent by AIPAC,” El-Sayed said. 
Stevens fired back, <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5993136-el-sayed-stevens-michigan-democratic-senate-primary-debate/">saying</a>, “The goal is always long-term peace, and also, the prime minister of Israel has attacked me by name. Let me just say this: that the only thing that ever motivates my work is the people of Michigan, the people who I hear from.” 
The back-and-forth on the debate stage did not stop things from turning ugly on the campaign trail. Earlier this month, a black school board member supporting Stevens told El-Sayed to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/black-democrat-tells-muslim-senate-candidate-to-stop-speaking-arabic?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Black+Democrat+Tells+Muslim+Senate+Candidate+To+Stop+Speaking+Arabic">stop speaking and playing Arabic music</a>, a viral moment that inflamed racial tensions. 
“The other candidate seems to be … doesn’t work a room. You have to know how to work the room. Don’t come out speaking only Arabic. Don’t come out with your Arabic music on,” Angie Smith said. “Represent everyone.”
Republicans see the simmering Democratic divisions as a ripe political opportunity come November. 
“The socialist takeover has its sights set on Michigan. That much is clear. They just have one major problem: we won’t let them get away with it,” <a href="https://rogersforsenate.com/news/rogers-sounds-alarm-on-socialist-takeover">said</a> Rogers, who <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/23/politics/michigan-senate-race-mike-rogers-haley-stevens-abdul-el-sayed">believes</a> his campaign is in “good shape” to win against El-Sayed.

Stevens, a sitting Congresswoman, has the backing of major Democratic figures like Gretchen Whitmer and Chuck Schumer, but El-Sayed has seen an infusion of energy from Bernie Sanders and &#8220;the squad.&#8221;
The contentious election has become a microcosm of the ideological and racial divisions reshaping and causing headaches for the Democratic Party nationwide. Socialist supporters view El-Sayed as their best chance to prove the movement can win in a battleground state.
Since President Donald Trump’s reelection, the Democratic establishment has watched a radical insurgency storm the country, racking up one victory after another. He&#8217;s campaigned with El-Sayed down the home stretch of the primary after making it his mission to oust as many establishment Democrats as possible. If they fail, it will be the greatest sign yet that the Democratic establishment’s old guard is losing its grip as the socialist-aligned left gains ground nationwide. 
High-profile establishment Democrats, including Michigan Governor Whitmer and South Carolina Congressman Jim Clyburn, have endorsed Stevens.
“Just like me, Haley will do whatever it takes to get things done for the people of Michigan, and we need her now more than ever,” Whitmer said in a video posted to X.
The congresswoman, who recently went viral for her quirky “stick it to them” slogan, celebrated the endorsement, calling Whitmer “a champion for our state” who understands “the stakes of this race.”
Meanwhile, Clyburn brought a racial component to the race. The South Carolina kingmaker who helped drag Joe Biden to his 2020 presidential nomination remarked that <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/james-clyburn-rips-el-sayed-205034507.html">there aren&#8217;t many black folks</a> at El-Sayed&#8217;s rallies.
In July, a black school board member supporting Stevens told El-Sayed to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/black-democrat-tells-muslim-senate-candidate-to-stop-speaking-arabic?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Black+Democrat+Tells+Muslim+Senate+Candidate+To+Stop+Speaking+Arabic">stop speaking and playing Arabic music</a>, a viral moment that inflamed racial tensions. 
“The other candidate seems to be … doesn’t work a room. You have to know how to work the room. Don’t come out speaking only Arabic. Don’t come out with your Arabic music on,” Angie Smith said. “Represent everyone.”
That line of criticism against El-Sayed — who is backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) — infuriated leftists.
“This is insanely racist,” left-wing commentator Mehdi Hasan wrote on X. “Not only should this Angie Smith be asked to apologize, but @HaleyforMI should be asked to disown and condemn these racist remarks about @AbdulElSayed and Arab-Americans.”
If elected, El-Sayed would become America’s first Muslim senator. His parents are both Egyptian immigrants, and his father <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-islamist-marxist-takeover-of-middle-america">was a part-time imam.</a> His father-in-law is a founding committee member of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), which has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, according to the federal government.
His background and hard-left platform — which includes Medicare for all, abolishing ICE, defunding the police, restructuring the U.S. Supreme Court, and raising taxes on billionaires — has galvanized the Democratic Party&#8217;s far-left base.
In the mold of other progressive primaries, Israel has emerged as the race&#8217;s defining issue. Stevens has embraced her identity as a &#8220;proud pro-Israel Democrat&#8221; and benefited from roughly $25 million in support from AIPAC and its allies, <a href="https://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/forms/C00799031/2001984/se">according to FEC filings,</a> while El-Sayed has called Israel&#8217;s war in Gaza a &#8220;genocide&#8221; and opposes U.S. military aid to the country. 
At a recent debate, El-Sayed turned his ire on Stevens over a recent vote for U.S. military aid to Israel. “Just last week, our friend here voted to send $3.3 billion of your tax dollars to a foreign government. That is the pro quo that comes with a quid of $30 million spent by AIPAC,” El-Sayed said. 
Stevens fired back, saying El-Sayed “attacked me by name for purporting that the people of Palestine and the people of Israel deserve to live side by side, peacefully,” she said. “The goal is always long-term peace, and also, the prime minister of Israel has attacked me by name. Let me just say this: that the only thing that ever motivates my work is the people of Michigan, the people who I hear from.” 
No matter the winner, Republicans see the internal Democratic divisions as prime real estate come November. 
“The socialist takeover has its sights set on Michigan. That much is clear. They just have one major problem: we won’t let them get away with it.” Rogers said in a statement. He reportedly believes his campaign is in &#8220;good shape&#8221; to win if El-Sayed captures Tuesday&#8217;s Democratic nomination.

Establishment Democrats Make Their Last Stand In Michigan

The nationwide diarrhea outbreak caused by the Cyclospora parasite turned deadly after Michigan health officials reported two deaths.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said “both individuals had significant underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by cyclosporiasis and dehydration.” The department declined to release additional information. 
“Cyclosporiasis is generally not a life-threatening illness,&#8221; the department said. &#8220;Death resulting from cyclosporiasis is uncommon in the United States.”
The parasite has spread across the country this summer <a href="https://health.ucdavis.edu/news/headlines/cyclospora-the-tiny-parasite-behind-explosive-diarrhea-cases/2026/07">through</a> contaminated produce, including lettuce, basil, cilantro, parsley, raspberries, blackberries, and snow peas. Symptoms typically begin one to two weeks after infection and include diarrhea, loss of appetite, bloating, extreme tiredness, low-grade fever, stomach cramps, and vomiting. 
Cases have been reported in 47 states and the District of Columbia. Michigan has been one of the hardest-hit states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed nearly <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/php/surveillance/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">7,000</a> laboratory cases and is tracking more than 11,500 additional cases, with the largest concentrations reported in Michigan and Ohio. 
Taylor Farms&#8217; iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico was initially identified as a potential source of the outbreak. On July 17, the company voluntarily recalled the affected lettuce.
“Anything currently on shelves is not the affected product,” Taylor Farms <a href="https://www.taylorfarms.com/cyclospora-information-hub/">said</a>. 
The Food and Drug Administration later said one positive test result was a false positive, but the agency continues investigating because that finding applied to only one shipment. 
“FDA’s traceback investigation and outbreak data continue to converge on shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms locations in central Mexico,” the agency <a href="https://x.com/US_FDA/status/2079238466118865220?s=20">said</a>. “The FDA will continue to work with federal and state partners to investigate this multistate outbreak and ensure products implicated in this outbreak have been removed from the market.”
Taylor Farms supplies produce to numerous grocery chains and restaurant brands nationwide, including Taco Bell, Chipotle, McDonald&#8217;s, KFC, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut, Walmart, Target, Safeway, Whole Foods, Meijer, Vons, Food4Less, Sprouts, Kroger, and Walmart.
