<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan</a>&#8216;s Supreme Court, which has a majority of Democrat-nominated justices, ruled on Monday that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-jr-scores-major-wins-for-trump-in-2-battleground-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Robert Kennedy Jr.</a> must appear on the battleground state&#8217;s ballot despite his efforts to get removed after ending his presidential campaign.
Kennedy, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-endorses-trump-for-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> former President Donald Trump after dropping out of the 2024 race last month, &#8220;has not shown an entitlement to this extraordinary relief, and we reverse&#8221; an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-jr-scores-major-wins-for-trump-in-2-battleground-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeals-level decision</a> from last week, <a href="https://www.courts.michigan.gov/4a58a0/siteassets/case-documents/uploads/sct/public/orders/167545_43_01.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a majority order said</a>.
The reversal could have significant consequences in a state where Trump won against Hillary Clinton by roughly 10,000 votes in the 2016 election and President Joe Biden prevailed against Trump by about <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/muslim-voters-michigan-biden-trump-2020_n_5fa41369c5b6f1e97fe77a1f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">150,000 votes</a> in the 2020 contest.
&#8220;This plainly has nothing to do with ballot or election integrity,&#8221; said Kennedy’s attorney Aaron Siri, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/rfk-jr-michigan-ballot-lawsuit-4aa84852759b5f3fe9ac7e5790af54d0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the AP</a>. &#8220;The aim is precisely the opposite — to have unwitting Michigan voters throw away their votes on a withdrawn candidate.&#8221;
Michigan&#8217;s secretary of state, a Democrat named Jocelyn Benson, <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2024/08/23/robert-f-kennedy-rfk-jr-suspends-presidential-campaign-endorses-trump-michigan-ballot-natural-law/74923208007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refused</a> to take Kennedy off the ballot, prompting a lawsuit. The Natural Law Party had nominated Kennedy and Benson&#8217;s office insisted minor party candidates <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2024/08/23/robert-f-kennedy-rfk-jr-suspends-presidential-campaign-endorses-trump-michigan-ballot-natural-law/74923208007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;cannot withdraw.&#8221;</a>
In a statement hailing the Michigan Supreme Court&#8217;s decision, a spokesperson for Benson declared, &#8220;Clerks can now move forward with the ballot printing process to ensure absentee ballots will be delivered to voters by the federal deadlines.&#8221;
The order to keep Kennedy on the Michigan ballot earned a stern rebuke from two Republican-nominated justices on the high court, David Viviano and Brian Zahra, who warned the ruling &#8220;will do nothing to rebuild&#8221; the public&#8217;s trust in elections.
&#8220;The ballots printed as a result of the Court’s decision will have the potential to confuse the voters, distort their choices, and pervert the true popular will and affect the outcome of the election,&#8221; the pair wrote in their <a href="https://www.courts.michigan.gov/4a58a0/siteassets/case-documents/uploads/sct/public/orders/167545_43_01.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dissenting opinion</a>.
Kennedy, who labored to get on the ballot in all 50 states as an independent candidate, is now trying to undo his success in various places that could prove to be pivotal in Trump&#8217;s election face-off against Vice President Kamala Harris.
The AP reported North Carolina&#8217;s high court, which has a majority of justices who are registered as Republicans, gave Kennedy a victory <a href="https://www.cbs17.com/news/north-carolina-news/supreme-court-orders-nc-ballots-reprinted-without-rfk-jr/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on Monday</a> by ruling ballots for the presidential election must be reprinted without his name on them.

Michigan Democratic Gov. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/gretchen-whitmer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gretchen Whitmer</a> said on Thursday that she&#8217;s &#8220;nervous&#8221; about polls giving Vice President Kamala Harris a clear advantage over former President Donald Trump in the Great Lakes State.
Speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival, Whitmer mentioned a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/04/politics/cnn-polls-battleground-states/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN poll</a> of battleground states that was released earlier this week that was very favorable toward Harris in Michigan and Wisconsin. According to the poll, Harris leads Trump 48% to 43% in Michigan and 50% to 44% in Wisconsin.
&#8220;It makes me nervous to see any poll that says there&#8217;s a five-point lead for Kamala Harris in Michigan now. It&#8217;s just not true,&#8221; Whitmer said, according to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/gretchen-whitmer-rejects-polls-showing-harris-up-5-points-against-trump-michigan-not-true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s gonna be a very close race. I believe we can win it. And I believe we wlll, but it&#8217;s gonna be very close.&#8221;
Whitmer incorrectly stated that the CNN poll didn&#8217;t take third-party and independent candidates into account. The latest CNN poll factored in Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — who has dropped out — Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. None of them polled above 4% in Michigan.
&#8220;In 2016, Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump by 11,000 votes. Jill Stein was also on our ballot and earned more than 11,000 votes,&#8221; Whitmer said.

Kennedy has been polling the highest among independent and third-party candidates in Michigan, even after suspending his campaign. Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michigan-dem-sos-says-rfk-jr-s-name-must-remain-on-ballot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> late last month that Kennedy had to remain on the Michigan ballot despite dropping out of the race. The Michigan Court of Appeals, however, ruled on Friday that Kennedy&#8217;s name <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-jr-scores-major-wins-for-trump-in-2-battleground-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">should be removed</a> from the Michigan ballot.
Judges in North Carolina also ruled in favor of Kennedy removing his name from the ballot. The independent candidate endorsed Trump last month and said he would seek to remove his name from ballots in battleground states where he could potentially act as a &#8220;spoiler.&#8221;
Whitmer discussed the unpredictable political direction of Michigan, saying, &#8220;I do think, you know, in Michigan over my lifetime, we take big swings. We&#8217;ve had 12 years of a Republican governor, and then we have term limits so eight years of a Democrat, then eight years of a Republican, then eight years of a Democrat. So it is a state that is notoriously kind of independent. We split our ticket a lot. And that&#8217;s who we are in Michigan.&#8221;
Trump won the state in 2016 over Hillary Clinton and lost to President Joe Biden in 2020. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. scored major back-to-back courtroom wins on Friday when judges ruled that his name would be removed from the ballot in the battleground states of North Carolina and Michigan.
Since he dropped out of the race last month and endorsed former President Donald Trump, Kennedy has been fighting Democratic officials in several states to have his name removed from ballots ahead of the November presidential election — with the consensus being that his name on the ballot would hurt Trump more than it would hurt Vice President Kamala Harris. Kennedy opted to remain on the ballots in solid blue or red states, giving his supporters room to cast a protest vote against both major party candidates.

In North Carolina, the Democrat-controlled State Board of Elections denied Kennedy&#8217;s request to remove his name along party lines. Kennedy filed suit, and a judge on Thursday ordered that his name should remain on the ballots — but gave him until noon on Friday to appeal that decision.
Appeal Kennedy did, and on Friday morning the North Carolina Court of Appeals <a href="https://appellate.nccourts.org/dockets.php?court=2&amp;docket=2-P2024-0624-001&amp;pdf=1&amp;a=0&amp;dev=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reversed the prior decision</a>:
<blockquote>By unanimous vote, the motion for temporary stay and petition for writ of supersedeas filed in this cause by petitioner Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on 5 September 2024 are allowed as follows: The Petition for Writ of Supersedeas is allowed and the &#8220;Order on Plaintiff&#8217;s Motion for Temporary Restraining Order, and, in the Alternative, an Expedited Preliminary Injunction&#8221; entered on 5 September 2024 by Judge Rebecca Holt is hereby stayed. Respondents are hereby enjoined from disseminating ballots listing petitioner as a candidate for President of the United States. The stay and injunction will remain in effect until the disposition of petitioner&#8217;s appeal or until further order of this Court. This cause is remanded to the Superior Court of Wake County for entry of order directing the State Board of Elections to disseminate ballots without the name of petitioner Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. appearing as a candidate for President of the United States.</blockquote>
North Carolina Board of Elections General Counsel Paul Cox has since ordered county elections boards throughout the state to hold the mail-in ballots that were supposed to be sent out until the state board determines whether or not to appeal the decision.
&#8220;Our attorneys are reviewing the order and determining how to move forward. No decision has been made on whether this ruling will be appealed,&#8221; Cox said.
A similar scene played out in Michigan, where Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson — despite arguing that independent presidential candidate Cornel West should be removed from the ballot — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michigan-dem-sos-says-rfk-jr-s-name-must-remain-on-ballot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refused to remove</a> Kennedy&#8217;s name after he requested that she do so.
Kennedy again filed suit, and on Friday morning, a panel of three judges <a href="https://aboutblaw.com/bfxt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruled in his favor</a>. The conclusion of their three-page decision was as follows:
<blockquote>Plaintiff sought to have his name withdrawn from the ballot in advance of the upcoming general election. While the request was made close to the deadline for defendant to give notice of candidates to local election officials, it was not made so late that laches should apply. Additionally, we conclude that the absence of any statutory authority prohibiting his withdrawal gave plaintiff a clear legal right to have his name removed from the ballot. [Secretary of State Benson] had no ability to disregard that request. And, at this point, no other remedy aside from mandamus is available to plaintiff, given the impending deadline for defendant to send notice to local election officials. &#8230; Accordingly, we hold that plaintiff is entitled to mandamus relief and that defendant shall remove plaintiff’s name from the ballot, as requested.</blockquote>

Over the time we’ve spent together, one of the things I’ve had the privilege of is seeing the things in life through the eye of a master teacher, to try and get the understanding.”
“That brings me to the second lesson that Imam taught me,” he continued. “I represent southern Minnesota in the United States Congress, and I’m not telling you anything new here, but Congress is a very broken place right now. It is a place that feeds on fear more than hope, it’s a place that feeds on division more than unity; it’s a place that feeds on trying someone to be the other than to be my brother. And I understood that, and I spent a lifetime making sure that all were welcome.”

Two polls released this week show Michigan Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin leading GOP Senate candidate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/republicans-land-top-recruit-in-battleground-senate-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Rogers</a>, but Rogers is gaining ground in the race for retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow&#8217;s (D-MI) seat.
A poll from <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/slotkin-leads-over-rogers-recent-100000953.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill/Emerson</a> released on Thursday showed Slotkin leading Rogers by six points, 47% to 41%. Rogers performed better in a poll released Friday by <a href="https://www.woodtv.com/news/elections/presidential-race-in-michigan-remains-tight-new-poll-shows/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">EPIC-MRA</a>, where he was just four points behind the Democrat, trailing 42% to 46%. While the polls show that the Republican Senate candidate still has some ground to cover, they are significantly better for Rogers than a poll released earlier this week by <a href="https://cdn.amgreatness.com/app/uploads/2024/08/Tables-Michigan-August-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Greatness/TIPP</a> that gave Slotkin a 10-point lead.
Polling on the Michigan Senate race, which is one of the many open doors for Republicans seeking to gain back control of the Senate in November, has ramped up this month. Poll results have varied widely, but all have given Slotkin the advantage.
Rogers, who was a U.S. House representative for Michigan&#8217;s 8th District from 2001 to 2015, has focused his attacks on Slotkin on issues such as illegal immigration, the economy, and China. Rogers served on the House Intelligence Committee from 2011 to 2015, and before his time in Congress, was a special agent in the FBI and a U.S. Army officer.

On the border, on the economy, and on stopping China,&#8221; Rogers <a href="https://x.com/MikeRogersForMI/status/1828817353158840410" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on X on Wednesday. &#8220;But on November 5th, that comes to a stop. We&#8217;ll get Michiganders back in the driver&#8217;s seat, and always put our values first!&#8221;
Slotkin, meanwhile, has focused her messaging on gun control and abortion and has <a href="https://x.com/ElissaSlotkin/status/1765080700754264167" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> she is &#8220;loud and proud on reforming the filibuster&#8221; to cram through Democratic policies. The Democrat is currently the U.S. House representative for Michigan&#8217;s 7th District. Slotkin previously worked as a CIA analyst.
The seat being vacated by Sen. Stabenow, who has been in the Senate since 2001, is <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/20/politics/senate-race-rankings-july-2024/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one of nine</a> Senate seats that could potentially flip from Democrat to Republican control in the 2024 election. Michigan has not elected a Republican senator since 1994.
Michigan is also a vital battleground state in the 2024 presidential election. Currently, former President Donald Trump is trailing Vice President Kamala Harris in the polling in Michigan by just under 2 points, according to the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/president/general/2024/michigan/trump-vs-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RealClearPolitics</a> average.

Trump’s appearance in Wisconsin will follow another campaign stop in Potterville, Michigan, a town of about 2,600 located about 15 miles south of Lansing. Trump will <a href="https://www.wilx.com/2024/08/28/trump-gizzard-city-potterville-community-prepares-campaign-visit-mid-michigan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> speak on his economic policies, focusing on inflation and manufacturing at the Alro Steel factory.

Independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr.&#8217;s name must remain on Michigan&#8217;s general election ballot despite his push to remove it from ballots in battleground states, according to Michigan Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
After <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rfk-endorses-trump-for-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsing</a> Trump last week, Kennedy said he would remain on the ballot in &#8220;red&#8221; and &#8220;blue&#8221; states but remove himself from &#8220;10 battleground states&#8221; where he could potentially act as a &#8220;spoiler.&#8221; Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/08/27/michigan-rfk-jr-ballot-2024-trump?utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday that Michigan Secretary of State Benson&#8217;s office said in a statement, &#8220;Minor party candidates cannot withdraw, so his name will remain on the ballot in the November election.&#8221;

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed voting-related lawsuits in two different states, Michigan and North Carolina, in a matter of days.
The RNC, run by chairman Michael Whatley and co-chair Lara Trump, is suing the city of Detroit, over a &#8220;deliberate&#8221; refusal to hire an equal number of Republican election inspectors as Democrat election inspectors.
In a suit against the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE), the RNC is seeking to force the board to require identification to prove a potential voter&#8217;s citizenship. RNC officials say the suit is necessary to comply with federal law and keep non-citizens from voting.
The RNC said in a press release sent to The Daily Wire that Michigan law requires election officials to hire an “equal number, as nearly as possible,” of poll workers from each major political party. The GOP nominated 675 election inspectors, but Detroit only appointed 52 of them; in contrast, the city has hired over 2,300 Democrat election inspectors.
&#8220;A ratio of 7 Democrats to every one Republican inspector is not even close to equal,&#8221; the RNC release said.

“Detroit’s failure to hire Republican poll workers is the kind of bad-faith Democrat interference that drives down faith in elections,&#8221; Whatley said. &#8220;The RNC is bringing suit to remedy this completely unacceptable breach of public trust and our unprecedented election integrity campaign will continue to fight in Michigan and nationwide to protect the rights of every voter to have fair, accurate, secure and transparent elections.”
In the North Carolina suit, the RNC claims the NCSBE is violating the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). A past voter registration form the NCSBE used did not include HAVA-required identification information and NCSBE eventually corrected the noncompliant form.
However, the RNC says about 225,000 people in the state have been registered without the HAVA-required information due to the past form, and NCSBE has refused to reach out to those voters to acquire the necessary identification.

Michigan Technological University has rebranded its diversity office, the latest in a trend of schools renaming their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
The school&#8217;s Office of Diversity and Inclusion will now be known as &#8220;Engagement and Belonging,&#8221; the school <a href="https://blogs.mtu.edu/belonging/2024/08/01/introducing-engagement-and-belonging/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on its website.
The change was made official on August 1.

The office’s services, functions, and staff will remain the same, the school said.
&#8220;Engagement and Belonging is excited for this next chapter and looks forward to collaborating with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners to further strengthen a sense of belonging for everyone at Michigan Tech,&#8221; the school said.
Michigan Tech did not respond to a request for comment.
The Upper Peninsula school is far from the first to make such a change amid controversy around DEI and its effects on higher education.
Last summer, the University of South Carolina reorganized and <a href="https://www.thestate.com/news/local/education/article278561334.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">renamed</a> its DEI office to the Division of Access, Civil Rights and Community Engagement.
In December, Clemson University, also in South Carolina, <a href="https://scdailygazette.com/2023/12/19/clemson-becomes-second-sc-university-to-rename-equity-and-inclusion-office/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">renamed</a> its DEI office the Division of Community Engagement, Belonging and Access.
In Texas, a new law prohibiting higher education institutions from having diversity offices prompted some Texas schools to give their DEI offices new names involving words like “belonging,” “community engagement,” and “student development.”
However, the Republican Texas lawmaker who sponsored the DEI law pushed back.
State Senator Brandon Creighton wrote letters to Texas&#8217; public university systems warning that simply renaming their diversity offices does not comply with the law.
“While I am encouraged with the progress I have seen from many institutions of higher education in implementing SB 17, I am deeply concerned with the possibility that many institutions may choose to merely rename their offices or employee titles,” Creighton <a href="https://mcusercontent.com/97acf22aca6983d50d142ba88/files/2094d322-b63e-9c09-9f97-42b0169c58d2/3.26.24_.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>.

“This letter should serve as notice that this practice is unacceptable,” he said.
Numerous states <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/data-graphics/anti-dei-bills-states-republican-lawmakers-map-rcna140756" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have</a> introduced legislation to ban or crack down on DEI programs and practices over the last several years.
Florida&#8217;s education board banned public colleges from using state or federal funds on DEI initiatives.
Utah prohibited diversity programs such as DEI statements in higher education, public schools, and government employment. The state also banned the words “diversity, equity and inclusion” from being in a public office&#8217;s name.
In Arizona, where a bill to ban DEI practices passed, Republican state Senator Anthony Kern said, “We don’t want public money going to political activism; promoting DEI.”

Former President Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign indicated on Tuesday that he would make performing transgender surgeries on minors without parental consent a felony.
The promise appeared in Trump&#8217;s prepared remarks for his Tuesday rally at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department in Howell, Michigan. Excerpts of his prepared remarks were released by his campaign ahead of the event.
“And to protect our children from sexual mutilation, we will make it a felony for any medical professional to perform surgery on a minor without parental consent,” Trump&#8217;s remarks read.

Transgender medical interventions on minors, which include double mastectomies of girls&#8217; healthy breasts as well as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, have become one of the most controversial cultural issues of the last several years.
The Biden administration has pushed to keep such interventions legal for minors, arguing against age restrictions for some transgender procedures in one Alabama court case, documents <a href="https://cbs6albany.com/amp/news/nation-world/trump-will-charge-doctors-for-sexual-mutilation-of-children-campaign-says-donald-trump-politics-2024-election-lgbt-transgender-minors-surgeries-surgery-felony-charge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show</a>.
At least 25 U.S. states have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nebraska-supreme-court-upholds-bans-on-abortion-transgender-surgeries-for-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> restrictions on transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for minors. Republicans in state legislatures have butted heads with Democrats on whether to keep the treatments legal.
Transgender surgeries like double mastectomy and phalloplasty for females and vaginoplasty for males are not reversible. Genital surgeries are less commonly performed on children, but some trans-identifying minors go on to receive them as adults. Some of the effects of hormone treatments, such as voice damage, are also irreversible.
Last year, Trump <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-vows-stop-gender-affirming-care-minors-re-elected-president-rcna68461" target="_blank" rel="noopener">promised</a> to task several federal agencies with working to “stop” transgender medical interventions for minors, calling it “child abuse.”
Additionally, Trump had said he would prohibit federal agencies from working to “promote the concept of sex and gender transition at any age.”
The Republican nominee also said last year that he would push schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family” and “the roles of mothers and fathers.”

Detransitioners, people who underwent transgender surgeries and hormone treatments at a young age but now express regrets, have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/it-was-mutilation-5-detransitioners-harmed-by-medical-transition-speak-out-in-new-documentary">spoken out</a> in recent years about how the treatments harmed them. Some have accused their doctors of not addressing their underlying mental issues, such as autism, anxiety, or depression, before shunting them towards transgender medicalization.

HOWELL, M.I. — Supporters of former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> showed up in force on Tuesday afternoon outside of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan</a> as the former president gave a speech on law and order at a private event.
At least one thousand Trump supporters descended upon Howell, about 55 miles northeast of Detroit, to line the streets outside the sheriff’s office where Trump was speaking. Many wore shirts and hats featuring the now-famous picture of Trump being rushed off the rally stage in Pennsylvania after he was nearly killed in an assassination attempt. 
“I’m here to try to make sure that our folks get as much exposure to the president as possible,” Livingston GOP Chair Rob Rodriguez-Pelizzari told The Daily Wire outside the sheriff’s office. “It’s not an everyday occurrence where we get to talk with or even see the President of the United States. We’re really pumped up about it.” 
Rodriguez-Pelizzari said he would love to host a rally for Trump in the county, which backed Trump by wide margins in 2016 and 2020. He said he handed out all of the 1,000 Trump signs he had ready for the day, adding that Republicans need to maximize voter turnout in red counties like Livingston because there are “a lot of voters that aren’t voting.”

In 2016, Rodriguez-Pelizzari said everyone was “super excited” about the election, saying that turnout in Livingston County was the “linchpin” of Trump’s victory in Michigan. Trump won the county by 31,000 votes and the election by about 11,000. 
&#8220;We feel like we’re pretty important,” he said. “We feel like we have to do a really good job here. His presidency is depending on it.” 
Rodriguez-Pelizzari said that energy dipped in 2020 and 2022, but “we’re back again,” and “everybody is excited” for November. He said Republicans in the area were “very mobilized” and “very responsive.” 
A Trump supporter named Scott, who works in casino management and lives in Brighton, was confident that Trump would perform well in Michigan this year. He said that the “silent majority was not going to be silent anymore,” adding that he didn’t trust the polls.

He said his biggest issues were illegal immigration, high grocery prices, and the economy. He was especially critical of Vice President Kamala Harris’s price control proposals. 
Scott was skeptical of Harris&#8217; promises to fix the economy, the border, and inflation since the Biden-Harris administration has already been in office for nearly four years.

As a Midwest voter, he said that he believes the Democrat&#8217;s vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz, is “more liberal than Kamala,” and he&#8217;s worried about his “incredibly deep ties to China.” 
A group of pro-life Christians was also outside the sheriff&#8217;s office, rallying for a woman named Heather Idoni, who has been incarcerated at the Livingston County Jail for her conviction on FACE Act-related charges. Several of those demonstrating held signs saying “Free Heather Idoni.”
Idoni and six other pro-life Christians were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-89-year-old-woman-convicted-faces-over-a-decade-in-prison-for-peaceful-pro-life-protest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted in Detroit</a> earlier in the day on Tuesday on FACE Act and conspiracy against rights charges brought by the Biden-Harris administration. Several of those convicted, including Eva Edl, Cal Zastrow, and Eva Zastrow, were present with the “free Heather” signs. 
During his speech, Trump said that Harris was weak on crime and that there was a spree of lawlessness sweeping Democrat-run cities.&#8221;You can&#8217;t walk across the street to get a loaf of bread,” he <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2024/08/20/donald-trump-howell-michigan-crime-campaign-speech-kamala-harris-illegal-immigration/74844154007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “You get shot. Lee was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-89-year-old-woman-convicted-faces-over-a-decade-in-prison-for-peaceful-pro-life-protest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reacting to the news</a> that Edl and six other pro-life activists were convicted in federal court in Detroit late Tuesday morning of charges brought against them by the Biden administration accusing them of conspiracy against rights and violating the FACE Act. They could now be sentenced to over a decade in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines upon sentencing.
Edl, a devout Christian, was rounded up as a child and forced into a concentration camp by the forces of Yugoslavian communist dictator Josip Broz Tito in the aftermath of World War II. She later immigrated to the United States and became very active in pro-life activism across the country.

Lee has repeatedly pointed out the disproportionate use of the FACE Act against pro-lifers and has introduced legislation multiple times in the Senate to repeal the Clinton-era law.
Fellow Republican Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has also pushed for the repeal of the FACE Act and reacted on Tuesday to the verdict out of Detroit.

The other pro-lifers convicted on Tuesday include Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-life-father-facing-11-years-in-prison-says-biden-doj-is-targeting-conservative-christians">Joel Curry</a>, Justin Phillips, Cal Zastrow, and his daughter Eva Zastrow.
The charges stemmed from a peaceful demonstration, which the defendants called a “Rescue,” where the group sat and stood outside of the Northland Family Planning Clinic in Sterling Heights, Michigan, alongside a group of other pro-life activists. Edl and Idoni were convicted on an additional charge for a pro-life protest they attended at the Women’s Health Clinic in Saginaw, Michigan.
Each of the defendants pointed to their faith in Jesus as what motivated them to go to Northland to try persuade women from getting abortions.
Concluding arguments were made on Monday before the case was handed to the jury, which started deliberating Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. local time. The jury, composed of seven women and five men, took around 3.5 hours to find them all guilty.
A sentencing date has not yet been set as the lawyers have an opportunity to make briefings to Judge Matthew Leitman, who oversaw the case, to dismiss it.
