Michelle Obama joined the sex and dating podcast “Call Her Daddy” to criticize society&#8217;s fixation on women&#8217;s appearances while promoting her new book, “The Look,” which explores her outfits as the former first lady.
Without a hint of irony, Obama told podcast host Alex Cooper that she wished the press focused less on what she wore and more on her education and professional background.
“The top of the article would be ‘she was wearing…’” Obama lamented. &#8220;Not my education, not my professional career.” 
Cooper agreed with Obama, though both women seemed to forget that the interview had opened with, “Talk to me about your outfit. How did you pick it?” 
The irony continued when, instead of delving into her professional accomplishments, Obama highlighted the personal toll of being overlooked &#8220;as just Barack Obama’s wife.&#8221;
“All of that just disappeared in the course of this whole [2008] election,” she said after listing her professional accomplishments as an attorney, assistant to the Chicago mayor, nonprofit leader, and vice president for community relations at the University of Chicago Hospitals. “You now see me as just Barack Obama’s wife … my shoes became the most important thing about me,” she added. 
While she declined to say more about her past careers, Obama was clear about one path she would not take: Politics. “Don’t even ask me about running,” she said. “Because you all are lying. You aren’t ready for a woman. You are not.” 
Obama explained that Donald Trump didn’t win because Americans favored him over Kamala Harris or Hillary Clinton, but because the nation is not yet ready for a woman in the Oval Office. 
“Let’s look at the fact that we’ve had two really qualified female candidates,” she said. “One who was first lady, secretary of state, well educated, you know, my husband beat her… And now we just had the former vice president, you know, we’ve had qualified women and they just, you know, again, if they’re not perfect and they don’t cross every T and dot every I, there’s a falling shortness that is happening.” Still, she urged young women — especially those interested in public service — not to be discouraged. “We need you,” Obama said. 
Podcast host Cooper asked the former first lady, “How could a woman hold the highest seat in the government when she has less rights than half the population?” 
Obama responded, “Yeah, yeah,&#8221; before shifting to a message of encouragement. She emphasized that women should not give up just because the glass ceiling hasn’t been broken. 
“That doesn’t mean that women should roll up their sleeves and call it a day… prove us wrong. I would love that. The young women we’ve been talking to keep climbing. We need you. You may come up short, but keep going.”

Michelle Obama went viral yesterday — on Martin Luther King Day of all days — for comments about shopping habits and race.
The viral description making the rounds, however, reads, &#8220;Michelle Obama says she is mindful to try to avoid white-owned brands&#8230;&#8221;
The question is whether what she actually said matches that description.

At a superficial glance, just hearing her words verbatim, you’d probably have to say the viral description isn’t entirely fair. Nowhere does she explicitly say “don’t shop at white-owned brands.” Nowhere does she say “shop at black-owned brands and not white-owned brands.”
And in defense of Michelle Obama — and I don’t generally defend her — that’s not literally what she said.
She said that if she sees a black-owned brand and she likes their stuff, she’ll choose that brand. But she stops herself. She doesn’t say, “and I won’t buy from anyone else.” She doesn’t say, “I only do it because it’s black-owned.”
But here’s the problem: she injects race into the decision. She’s saying, “If I like their stuff, and if it’s black-owned, then I especially want to buy it.” And when she says, “If you have the money to buy Chanel, you have the money to buy everybody,” she very carefully stops short of finishing the sentence. She doesn’t say “black-owned brands.” She says “everybody.”
What she’s doing is trying to privilege the black-owned brand while avoiding the explicit consequence of that choice. She wants to be a racial identitarian when it comes to the positive act of buying — of supporting a business — but she doesn’t want to be a racial identitarian when it comes to the negative act of not shopping somewhere else.
She never says, “Don’t shop at white brands.” Instead, she says you need to shop at black brands, and everybody needs to shop at black brands — but maybe not less at white brands.
It’s a kind of gobbledygook. And that’s why, ultimately, I think the viral description is basically fair, even if it’s not perfectly precise.
It’s like the IQ bell curve meme. At one end, people say she told people not to shop at white stores. In the middle, it’s “she said to shop at black stores but also shop at white stores.” And at the other end, what she’s really saying is: shop less at white stores. Her minor premise is wrong. She says if you have the money to buy Chanel, you have the money to buy everybody.

That’s simply not true. Money is a finite resource. Just because you can afford one expensive brand doesn’t mean you have infinite money. And even if you did have infinite money, you have finite closet space. You have a finite number of dresses you’ll wear. A finite number of days in the week. Where are you going to wear all these clothes?
This is the core problem with diversity ideology. If you privilege one thing, you necessarily disadvantage another. 
This is exactly the problem with affirmative action. Everyone says, “Oh, it’s great, we should help out black people.” And yes, for the vast majority of Americans, that sounds good. Who doesn’t want to help?
But affirmative action in practice means something very concrete. There are a finite number of spots at a university. A finite number of jobs. When you give an advantage to black people simply for being black, you are necessarily disadvantageous to someone else — often white people, or Asian people in the case of college admissions. There is discrimination happening. There is an injustice that comes with that, too.
The same logic applies here. When you say, “I’m going to shop at the black brand,” you are necessarily saying that, at the margin — the last dress that fits in your closet — you are not going to shop at the white brand. You are choosing not to go into that shop, not because you dislike the dress, but because of the race of the person who owns it.
That is discrimination on the basis of race. That’s what Michelle Obama is saying — without saying it. She doesn’t want to go all the way, but there is no other conclusion you can reach from her premises.
This ties directly into why people don’t really talk about Martin Luther King Jr. the same way anymore. Part of it is that the modern Left rejects him because he was too conciliatory and too egalitarian. But the other reason is that the practical politics don’t match the rhetoric.
Dr. King famously said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” 
And yet his successors say that in order to achieve that dream, we need affirmative action, DEI, and diversity ideology. Which, in practice, means judging people — especially white people — by the color of their skin.
Taken to its extreme, it means not shopping at white-owned businesses. And even if you agree with MLK’s premise, you are completely undermining it with these practical consequences.
So no, I don’t begrudge Michelle Obama for shopping at black-owned businesses. That’s fine. But if you’re going to say it, say it with your whole heart. Finish the sentence.
Tell people explicitly: shop at black businesses. Don’t shop at white businesses. Define what counts as ownership — 50% plus one ownership? Board seats? Stakeholders? I don’t know. But say it clearly.
And if you’re not willing to say that, then just buy the dress you like.

Michelle Obama blames white people for the fact that black people can’t swim. In an interview promoting her new book called I forgot what — that’s not the title of the book, I just forgot what the title is — the wife of the president who ruined our healthcare system spoke in that condescending, sassy black woman tone of voice that makes all of us love sassy black women so very, very much. She said, &#8220;Let me explain something to white people. Our hair comes out of our heads naturally in a curly pattern. So, when we&#8217;re straightening it to follow your beauty standards, we are trapped by the straightness. That&#8217;s why so many of us can&#8217;t swim, and we run away from the water … because we&#8217;re trying to keep our hair straight for y&#8217;all. It is exhausting, and it is so expensive, and it takes up so much time!&#8221;
Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, &#8220;Oh, Klavan, you jocular junkie of jovial jokery, where do you come up with these fantastically fanciful satire ideas?&#8221; Just the notion that a woman with degrees from both Princeton and Harvard would talk to her fellow grown-ups in that condescending sassy black woman tone that just makes you want to plant a foot of whatever color right in her sassy black buttock and watch her go sailing through the air like a Cameron Dicker field goal attempt from sixty yards out, is totally unbelievable in itself. But when you add to that this ridiculous concept that an unfathomably privileged woman with a net worth of approximately a hundred gazillion Somalis would go on TV with her straightened hair that no white man gives a twitch of a rat’s ass about and tell people that the reason she can’t swim is because white people give a twitch of a rat’s ass about her hair, well, sure, it’s hilarious, but just so totally unreal.
But no, I am not making this up. The wife of the president who reintroduced racial hatred into an American culture that had all but abandoned it, has a new book out called I don’t care what it is — that’s not the title of the book, I just don’t care what it is — and she promoted the book by claiming that her obsession with how white people see her, is the fault of white people who mostly don’t see her at all.

Now, this might actually be a good sales strategy. Michelle Obama’s tone of bitter, entitled, totally unearned self-satisfaction is very popular with liberal women… for some reason. And I’m sure whatever nonsense she spews out will be greeted by those women as a thoroughly welcome change from the nonsense they&#8217;re spewing out in a tone of bitter, entitled, totally unearned self-satisfaction.
In fact, the same audience also enjoys Michelle’s nasty remarks about her husband, the former president, who would have gotten away with giving the terrorist nation of Iran a nuclear weapon if Donald Trump hadn’t bombed the living Barack out of their nuclear facilities. For instance, Michelle said there was an entire decade of her marriage in which she “couldn’t stand,” her husband, which may account for the fact that the former president, who managed to lose the war in Iraq after George W. Bush won the war in Iraq, formed a suspiciously close relationship with his male chef — until the chef mysteriously drowned in a pond on Martha’s Vineyard, probably because he was so worried about getting his hair wet, he forgot how to swim. Either that, or it was because he threatened to tell. But probably it was his hair. 
Now, just to be clear, it really is a problem that black people don’t learn how to swim. Black kids drown at around three times the rate of white kids, and it may be because white people don’t like curly hair. Or it may be because too many black kids don’t have fathers, so there’s no one to throw them into the water and listen to their mothers scream, “Oh my God, he’ll drown, and what about his hair?” while the kid happily paddles back and forth, not worrying about his hair because he has a father.
But sure, maybe it’s because of white people.

Michelle Obama is continuing her book promo tour and complaining nonstop about how she believes she’s been perceived by the public. Her latest in a long list of complaints has to do with her hair.
The former first lady discussed the topic during a conversation with Tracee Ellis Ross that was posted on YouTube over the weekend.
Obama whined that black women are “trapped” by societal pressure regarding their looks and feel compelled to keep their hair straight, meaning they can’t participate in everyday activities. 
“Let me explain something to white people. Our hair comes out of our head naturally in a curly pattern,” the 61-year-old lectured. “When we straighten it to follow your beauty standards, we are trapped by the straightness.”
“That&#8217;s why so many of us can&#8217;t swim, and we run away from the water. People won&#8217;t go to the gym because we’re trying to keep our hair straight for y&#8217;all! It&#8217;s exhausting, expensive and takes up so much time.”
Obama concluded by effusively telling society to “get out of&#8221; her hair.
“So why do we need an act … an act of law to get white folks out of our hair? Don’t tell me how to wear my hair. Don’t wonder about it. Don’t touch it. Just don’t. It just is.”

The former first lady got some negative reactions from both sides of the political aisle. 
One Threads user has been gaining traction online for her reaction to Obama’s rant.
“Dear Michelle Obama, newsflash black women do not straighten their hair because of white peoples beauty standards,” user Chanel Coco <a href="https://www.threads.com/@chanelcocofive/post/DRE3Ws3AF0d">posted</a> in reply. “As a Curly natural myself most black women straighten their hair because they choose to and it’s easier to manage for them. Let’s drop this narrative that we do anything for the white beauty standard, black women are the true beauty standard. Why get on stage and say that nonsense?”
“Dear Michelle Obama, Abandon the victimhood. There is no standard. If you don’t want to straighten your hair…then don’t,” an X user posted alongside a photo of a large Afro hairstyle. 
“I, for one, have never once cared about Michelle Obama&#8217;s hair and what she does or doesn&#8217;t do with it,” former collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines <a href="https://x.com/Riley_Gaines_/status/1989788112214741464">wrote</a> in reply, echoing what so many others were saying. 
Obama has been complaining about her hair and the way she thinks it&#8217;s viewed for years. In 2022, she said she decided to straighten her hair while her husband Barack was in office because the public was not “<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/11/17/michelle-obama-black-hair-braids/">ready for</a>” her to have braids.  
Obama has been promoting her new book, “The Look,” which is touted as a reflection on her “lifelong journey with fashion, hair, and beauty.” The book tour has featured nonstop complaining about the pressure she was under, including when Obama <a href="https://x.com/EndWokeness/status/1986835412204016114">said</a> having a team for hair, makeup, and styling was a &#8220;time necessity&#8221; rather than a &#8220;luxury.”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is discussing America&#8217;s supposed racism and complaining about her time in the White House.
During an upcoming special, Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts reads quotes from Obama&#8217;s new book, &#8220;The Look,&#8221; which, in part, opines about the scrutiny Obama says she felt from white people in America.
&#8220;You said, &#8216;We were all too aware that as the first black couple, we couldn&#8217;t afford any missteps,'&#8221; Roberts read. &#8220;And you also say, &#8216;As a black woman, I was under a particularly white hot glare.'&#8221;
&#8220;Did you feel that?&#8221; Roberts asked Obama.
&#8220;For sure,&#8221; she answered.
&#8220;You can&#8217;t afford to get anything wrong, because you didn&#8217;t &#8212; at least until the country came to know us &#8212; we didn&#8217;t get the grace that I think some other families have gotten,&#8221; the former first lady continued.
Radio host Buck Sexton commented on the remarks, &#8220;Starting to feel like maybe Michelle Obama is a bitter malcontent addicted to complaining about her incredibly privileged life.&#8221;

Obama has talked about her time in the White House previously, calling it isolating and complaining that the family had to pay for their food and travel. The Obamas are reportedly worth $70 million.

Obama has focused much on race. Just days ago, she <a href="https://people.com/michelle-obama-reveals-why-she-never-wore-braids-in-the-white-house-exclusive-11838287">complained</a> about black women having to spend &#8220;thousands of hours&#8221; and lots of money on their hair if they try to straighten in, instead of wearing it natural and curly.

The former first lady also famously suggested in 2008 that it was the first time she was proud of her country as an adult woman when the nation voted for her husband during the Democrat presidential primaries.
&#8220;But what we’ve learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback,&#8221; she said at the time. &#8220;It is making a comeback and let me tell you something: For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country.&#8221;
&#8220;And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change,&#8221; Obama continued. &#8220;And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues and it’s made me proud.&#8221;

The internet does not have high hopes for Larry David’s newly announced project, a sketch comedy show about American history produced by the Obamas.
Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/larry-david-american-history-sketch-comedy-series-hbo-1236451946/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that David will co-write the new HBO program with Jeff Schaffer, with whom he worked on the long-running comedy show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” David will star in and co-write the six-part series, the outlet noted.
Barack and Michelle Obama are set to executive produce the project through their Higher Ground Productions company.
The show’s description says, “President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion…But then Larry David called.”
Former President Obama commented on the pairing, saying, “I’ve sat across the table from some of the world’s most difficult leaders and wrestled with some of our most intractable problems. Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.”
Social media mainly had negative reactions to the news of David and the Obamas teaming up.
“It sounds like it’s gonna be one big lecture. I hope I’m wrong,” one account <a href="https://x.com/EricBalchunas/status/1943381813772325127">predicted</a>.
“Played out. Preaching to the choir. We don&#8217;t need more lectures from Hollywood,” another <a href="https://x.com/AwardsDaily/status/1943367269498917054">wrote</a>.
“This is going to be so awful,” a third commenter on X <a href="https://x.com/imjaredz/status/1943396360692097354">predicted</a>.
“Get ready for the most unfunny experience of your life,” another <a href="https://x.com/EliseMcCue/status/1943494127145955393">replied</a>.
“Trash propaganda I’m sure,” said another, while someone else just wrote, “Yikes.” 
David has been vocal about political issues and recently had a meltdown over Bill Maher having dinner with President Donald Trump. He was so incensed that the comedian penned an op-ed for The New York Times, repeating the tired trope that Trump was literally Hitler. 
CNN Republican Scott Jennings blasted David for publishing the op-ed, saying it was just another example of Democrats attacking anyone who tried to open the lines of communication between people with differing opinions.
“This is the modern Left,” Jennings <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-republican-torches-larry-davids-dinner-with-hitler-column-attacking-bill-maher">said</a>. “It’s an attempt always to intimidate people into not ever doing it again. It’s to silence yourselves, or we’ll do it for you. That’s the purpose of this op-ed, so that the next comedian, or the next person on the American left chooses not to speak to Donald Trump.&#8221;

&#8220;Women&#8217;s reproductive health is about our life,” Obama added. “It&#8217;s about this whole complicated reproductive system that the least of what it does is produce life.”
She continued, “It&#8217;s a very important thing that it does, but you only produce life if the machine that&#8217;s producing it—if you want to whittle us down to a machine—if the machine is functioning in a healthy, streamlined kind of way. But there is no discussion or apparent connection between the two.&#8221;
The former first lady’s friend, OB/GYN Dr. Sharon Malone, was a guest on the episode. She agreed with Obama’s thoughts, saying, &#8220;one of the things that is disturbing&#8221; is that the &#8220;government has gotten involved in decisions that are personal and healthcare decisions.”
“It&#8217;s not just about whether someone chooses to have a pregnancy or not, but this is a situation where a woman should have control over her body—when and if to have a baby, and to decide how that pregnancy should continue,&#8221; she said.
At another point in the episode, Dr. Malone also mentioned a link between “older sperm” and “more autism.”
“They&#8217;ll never let that secret out. That may be the key behind all the defunding everything,&#8221; Michelle Obama replied. &#8220;Then old men can keep marrying 20-year-olds. It&#8217;s like, &#8216;I&#8217;ll give you the baby you want.'&#8221;

Michelle Obama is complaining again, and this time it’s about how “expensive” it was living in the White House while her husband was president.
The 61-year-old former first lady discussed her woes during an appearance this week on “The Diary of a CEO” podcast.

“How do you raise kids in the White House? It’s dangerous,” Obama said. “As the first black potential president, we knew there would be death threats … how would we afford it? Because it’s expensive to live in the White House, as many people don’t know.”
“I mean, much is not covered,” she continued. “You’re paying for every food, every bit of food that you eat, you know, you’re not paying for housing and the staff in it … but everything, even travel, if you’re not traveling with the president, if you’re kids are coming on a Bright Star, which is the first lady’s plane, we had to pay for their travel to be on the plane.”
Obama repeated, “It is an expensive proposition, and you’re running for two years and not earning an income, so all of that was in my mind, um, how would we manage this.”
This isn’t the first time the “Becoming” author has mentioned the topic of paying for life during her husband’s presidency.
During a 2018 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she again discussed the topic of paying for food.
“If you say you want some exotic fruit, ‘Yes, ma&#8217;am, we&#8217;ll get that right away,’ and then you get the bill for a peach and it&#8217;s like, that was a $500 peach!?” Obama <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AktU2gettoU">told</a> the late night host. “I would tell Barack, ‘Barack, do not express pleasure for anything unless I know how much it costs.’”
Per <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/chart-shows-net-worth-us-presidents-before-after-office-1992975">Newsweek</a>, the Obamas entered the White House with a net worth of $1.3 million, and now have grown that amount to around $70 million. This 5,300 percent increase is the second highest jump in net worth for any president in history, second only to Bill Clinton.

Michelle Obama just explained her reasons for not attending the inauguration of President Donald Trump, a move which has inspired a lot of speculation among her followers.
The former first lady discussed her decision in a newly released <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL5q4BMln7M" target="_blank" rel="noopener">episode</a> of her podcast, “IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson,” where she spoke with actress Taraji P. Henson.
&#8220;My decision to skip the inauguration — or my decision to make choices at the beginning of this year that suited me — were met with such ridicule and criticism,&#8221; Obama explained. &#8220;People couldn&#8217;t believe that I was saying no for any other reason. They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m here really trying to own my life and intentionally practice making the choice that was right for me, and it took everything in my power to not do the thing that &#8216;was right,&#8217; or was perceived as right, but do the things that was right for me,&#8221; she said of the viral rumors of impending divorce. 
Obama said she had to “basically trick” herself into creating a situation where she wasn’t able to go to the inauguration.
&#8220;It started with not having anything to wear,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I was like, if I&#8217;m not going to do this thing, I got to tell my team, I don&#8217;t even want to have a dress ready, right? Because it&#8217;s so easy to just say let me do the right thing.&#8221;
The “Becoming” author said not having anything to wear would essentially force her to make the decision she actually wanted to make in the first place.
Obama said it’s all part of her goal of mastering the “art of saying no.”
“It&#8217;s a muscle that you have to build,” she said during the episode. “And I think we suffered, because it&#8217;s almost like we started training late in life to build that muscle, right? I am just now starting to build it.”
“I want our daughters, I want the young women out there… I want my girls to start practicing different strategies for saying no,” she continued. “After all that I&#8217;ve done in this world, if I am still showing them that I have to keep- I still have to show people that I love my country, that I&#8217;m doing the right thing, that I am always setting, going high all the time, even in the face of a lot of hypocrisy and contradiction, all I&#8217;m doing is keeping that crazy bar that our mothers and grandmothers set for us.”

Former first lady Michelle Obama addressed the recent rumors that she and her husband of 32 years, Barack, could be heading for divorce.
The 61-year-old “Becoming” author discussed the rumors during an episode of Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast, which aired this morning.
Rumors about marital struggles for the Obamas swirled after Michelle skipped attending former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral in December. She also didn&#8217;t attend President Donald Trump’s second inauguration, even though her husband was there, as were all the other former first ladies. 
&#8220;The interesting thing is that, when I say &#8216;no,&#8217; for the most part people are like, &#8216;I get it, and I&#8217;m okay,'&#8221; Michelle said, per <a href="https://www.eonline.com/news/1415869/michelle-obama-breaks-silence-on-barack-obama-divorce-rumors">E! News</a>. &#8220;That&#8217;s the thing that we as women, I think &#8230;we struggle with disappointing people. I mean, so much so that this year people were &#8230; they couldn&#8217;t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.&#8221;
&#8220;This couldn&#8217;t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right?&#8221; she continued. &#8220;But that&#8217;s what society does to us. We start actually, finally going, &#8216;What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?&#8217; And if it doesn&#8217;t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.&#8221;
Later, Michelle mentioned that she’s been considering &#8220;making some big girl decisions&#8221; at this point in her life and understanding that she has to “own it fully.”
&#8220;If not now, when? What am I waiting for? How am I going to spend 20 years?&#8221; she said during the interview. &#8220;Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of, &#8216;Who do I truly want to be every day?'&#8221;
“And that changes,” she added. “So, who do I want to have a lunch with? How long do I want to stay in a place? Do I want to travel? If a girlfriend calls and says, ‘Let’s go here,’ I can say ‘Yes!’ I can. And I’m trying to do that more and more.”
“I get to look at my calendar, which I did this year. It was a real big example of me, myself, looking at something that I was supposed to do, you know, without naming names, and I chose to do what was best for me,” she said. “Not what I had to do, not what other people wanted me to do, and between you and me, that was an important test for me just as a woman, as an independent person. Because, like all women, I operate from guilt.”
Barack didn’t specifically address divorce rumors, but he did mention his marriage while speaking with Hamilton College president Steven Tepper during an event last week, the outlet noted. 
&#8220;I was in a deep deficit with my wife, so I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things,&#8221; the former president said at the time.

Former first lady Michelle Obama opened up about her marriage to former President Barack Obama and said she is &#8220;not interested&#8221; in ever running for office. 
During her appearance on Kylie Kelce’s “Not Gonna Lie” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx9-v_cD8IY">podcast</a>, Michelle talked about being married to Barack since 1992, and said one area where they don’t agree is bedtime.

Michelle reflected on getting into “some good sheets” at night when it’s “cool.&#8221; But she insisted that if they have guests, she’s “game” and will stay up later.
“I’m talking but, you know, the minute we finish up, I’m just trying not to go to bed before the sun goes down,” Michelle added before sharing that her ideal bedtime is “anytime after dinner.”
The comments came following weeks of rumors about the Obama&#8217;s marital struggles, which were fueled by Michelle’s absence alongside Barack at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.
Later in the interview, Michelle made it clear she wants to stay as far away from politics as she can, pointing to their daughters Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23, as the main reason.
“I was so glad when we got out of the White House,” the 61-year-old said, referencing when the Obamas family left the White House in 2017. “I wanted them [her daughters] to have the freedom of not having the eyes of the world on them.”
“They still are dealing with paparazzi and being who they are and trying to carve out their own identity,” she added. “So, when people ask me, would I ever run [for office], the answer is no. If you ask me that, then you have absolutely no idea [of] the sacrifice that your kids make when your parents are in that role.”
“Not only am I not interested in politics in that way but the thought of putting my girls back into that spotlight when they are just now establishing themselves, you know, I think we’ve done enough,” Michelle continued. “Question asked and answered. Never going to happen. They’ve already served their time. … It would be unthinkable. Nope.”
Despite the comments, Michelle was involved in the 2024 election, though an insider previously shared that the former first lady “showed up reluctantly for the election,” <a href="https://pagesix.com/2025/03/19/celebrity-news/michelle-obama-reveals-point-of-contention-with-barack-after-divorce-rumors/">Page Six</a> reported.
“They were united, but she doesn’t have to unify around [Trump],” the insider said in reference to her absence from Trump&#8217;s inauguration. “She doesn’t have to say anything. Her absence speaks volumes.”

There are a lot of things I&#8217;m willing to do for my podcast — a lot of sacrifices I&#8217;ve made over the years, both big and small. And usually I don&#8217;t like to draw attention to these sacrifices because no one tunes in to listen to my personal problems. But today I have to make an exception to my normal practice. And once you see the footage I&#8217;m about to share with you, you&#8217;ll see why.
I just endured what could be the single greatest trial of my podcasting career, if not my entire life on this planet. Without the assistance of any mind-altering substances or the YouTube fast-forward button or anything like that, I just listened to multiple minutes of Michelle Obama&#8217;s new podcast called &#8220;IMO.&#8221; Each episode is a full hour, and it features Michelle Obama, her brother Craig, and sometimes, if you&#8217;re lucky, a special guest.
The special guest, however, isn&#8217;t an important part of the formula. Whether the guest is there or not, you can expect to listen to approximately one hour of Michelle and her brother talking about themselves. It&#8217;s actually impressive, the degree to which the entire show is about inane, completely uninteresting details of these two people&#8217;s lives.
Here&#8217;s just a sampling of the first episode. And frankly, it&#8217;s an impressive achievement if you can even manage to get through this short montage of the most banal and uninteresting footage ever recorded. Here it is:

When she says &#8220;blah blah blah&#8221; at the end of that clip — that was the one moment, in this entire hour-long episode, that really resonated with me on a deep level. That was when I thought she recognized that actually, people didn&#8217;t want to hear about her inferiority complex at Princeton, or her mom giving her an alarm clock as a kid, or the precise educational credentials of her husband. Maybe this would mark a pivot point in the podcast, where she starts talking about something remotely interesting. But it never happened. It never even came close to happening.
By far the best part of the first episode was the comments section, which included lines like: &#8220;This should be called “Drop the Mike” with Michelle Obama&#8221;; &#8220;Remember when this guy drowned his chef in a lovers quarrel?&#8221;; and &#8220;Joan Rivers was Right.&#8221; And then Mark Dice chimes in with, &#8220;Which one is Michelle?” — which is, credit where it’s due, one of the funnier YouTube comments I’ve read in quit some time. Then there&#8217;s a bunch of people wondering why she&#8217;s unwilling to be seen in public with her husband anymore. And then there&#8217;s this observation: &#8220;Someone here has got some serious balls, by that I mean whoever hasn&#8217;t disabled the comments yet.&#8221;
And that last person makes a particularly good point. You will not find a single positive comment anywhere on the page. As of Wednesday afternoon, a full 24 hours after this episode launched, it managed to rack up just 65,000 views. And more than half of that figure is from trolls. In the first 15 hours, it had under 20,000 views. Now everyone&#8217;s flooding in to mock it — but in the first two days it did not come close to 100 thousand views, which is the bare minimum you&#8217;d expect a podcast like this to achieve. Overnight it seems to have made it up to 160 thousand views, which means they’re almost certainly paying for views now. But all in all, this show has not resonated, to put it mildly.

It&#8217;s actually incredible, if you think about it. Someone as famous as Michelle Obama launches a podcast that&#8217;s been so widely promoted and publicized, and yet no one&#8217;s watching it. The media tells us that Michelle is highly popular and would be a shoo-in if she ran for president. But the numbers suggest that the public isn&#8217;t all that interested in her.
Just to be sure I wasn&#8217;t missing anything, I subjected myself to the second episode of the podcast, which was also released on Wednesday. This one features an actress as a guest, but it doesn&#8217;t remotely change what they talk about, which is themselves. Watch:

The lack of self-awareness is genuinely breathtaking, and at least a little hilarious. That last clip came at the very end of the episode, by the way. She spends the whole time talking about herself. And then she nosedives into astrology, and she claims she&#8217;s really interested in trying to understand other people. Having discussed herself for two hours across two episodes, Michelle Obama wants you to know that she&#8217;s really interested in understanding other people. That&#8217;s what this is all about. And once again, the comments are full of people asking what Big Mike did to the chef. This episode has about 75 thousand views in two days. Just for comparison sake, Joe Rogan released an episode on the same day. It has a million views.
Unfortunately for anyone hoping the misery would end here, there was one more video — a &#8220;digital exclusive&#8221; — that they uploaded along with these episodes. Picture the most cliched, trite content imaginable. And somehow this will probably exceed your expectations. Even if you managed to get through the other two clips, there&#8217;s a very good chance this will take you out. Watch:

Whatever focus group they paid to come up with segments like this, they need to get a refund immediately. It&#8217;s like if you asked AI to generate a relatable podcast. It would come up with exactly this segment, and have everyone say exactly what these people are saying, and then it would give the podcast the name &#8220;IMO.&#8221; This is what Michelle Obama — who again, some people still pretend is major star and a potential presidential contender — is capable of producing. By the way, that video about hotdogs has 25 thousand views.
This is not just a problem that Michelle is facing. This is a broader crisis on the Left. The trans activist Dylan Mulvaney, for example, has just launched yet another effort to get himself some publicity, after falling off the face of the Earth. Specifically he released a new book that promises a &#8220;modern lens to womanhood,&#8221; even though it&#8217;s written by a man who decided he was a woman a couple of years ago. And predictably, his book launch has been a complete disaster, like everything else he&#8217;s ever been associated with. The word &#8220;flop&#8221; does not begin to describe this particular publication. It sits at number 1,081 on Amazon at the moment, just a few days after its release. A day after it’s release it had not cracked the top 500. This probably translates to maybe a few hundred books sold, at most. To go along with a rating of 2.9 stars on Amazon. So it&#8217;s an unmitigated failure.
Initially, I wasn&#8217;t even aware that Mulvaney&#8217;s book had come out. But then I saw that, like Michelle Obama&#8217;s podcast, pretty much every major media publication in the country has been covering it. CBS News, for example, had a friendly sit-down with Mulvaney. They asked him a bunch of softball questions which he somehow couldn&#8217;t answer. Getting a sit-down interview on CBS to talk about your book is the kind of promotion most authors can only dream about. Conservative authors especially. But this is the sort of assistance Mulvaney, as the great trans mascot, gets. And it has not moved the needle for him even one inch.
But maybe Mulvaney&#8217;s most embarrassing media appearance came on &#8220;The View,&#8221; when he didn&#8217;t seem capable of articulating a coherent thought. Watch:

So &#8220;Whoopi Goldberg&#8221; begins by distancing herself from Gavin Newsom, because he dared to suggest — dishonestly — that he doesn&#8217;t think men should compete against women in sports. And then she asks Mulvaney about his thoughts on the topic, and it turns out that he has no thoughts. He can&#8217;t defend the idea of men competing against women, because it makes no sense. So instead, he defers to someone named &#8220;Schuyler&#8221; who he says is a &#8220;trans athlete.&#8221;
From what I can tell, Schuyler was a top-performing female swimmer at Harvard. Then she decided during a &#8220;gap year&#8221; that she&#8217;s really a man, so she swam with the men. And in that capacity, she went from a record-breaking swimmer to one of the worst athletes on the team. Somehow this is supposed to be proof of something, I guess. If you ask Schuyler, it&#8217;s proof that men don&#8217;t have any advantages over women in sports, even though Schuyler herself is living proof that the opposite is true.
But as the interview continued, Whoopi offered her own assessment of the situation, in an attempt to pick up the slack for Mulvaney.

What Whoopi pretends not to understand is that no one&#8217;s &#8220;assuming&#8221; that women are weaker. We know that it&#8217;s true. It&#8217;s true in every relevant respect. This is why high school boys can defeat the best women&#8217;s soccer team on the planet. It&#8217;s why women don&#8217;t play in the NFL. And it&#8217;s why no one is watching &#8220;The View&#8221; anymore, or buying Dylan Mulvaney&#8217;s book, or listening to Michelle Obama&#8217;s podcast. People are tired of being lied to, in the name of a political ideology that becomes more discredited by the day.
We could add to this list the total failure of Meghan Markel’s Netflix show, and her Spotify podcast that was just canceled. These are all people — all leftists — who have been heavily promoted by the media and Hollywood. They get the kind of mainstream exposure that nobody on the Right has ever gotten or will ever get. And yet the audience doesn’t care. They can’t sell books or a podcast. The public is totally disinterested.
In fact, just about the only success the Left has had lately is with Gavin Newsom&#8217;s new podcast. That&#8217;s actually doing fairly well. But it&#8217;s only doing well because his guests are all Republicans. If Gavin Newsom were doing a solo show, or talking to other Leftists, it would do about as well as &#8220;IMO.&#8221; In other words, the Left has the same problem culturally that they have politically. 
They have no stars. No leaders in the culture or on the political scene. There&#8217;s a reason nearly all of the most popular political podcasts are right-wing. No matter how aggressively the Left tries to force demented actors and disingenuous politicians and incoherent ideologies on the public, it’s just not working. They can shove all of these people in our face, but what they’re discovering is that they can’t make us care.
