Spirit Airlines might soon opt for liquidation if they are not bought out or bailed out — and the Biden administration’s opposition to its proposed merger with JetBlue may be largely to blame, one economist explained to The Daily Wire.
A federal judge ultimately dealt the death blow to the plan to have the two airlines combine, but the ruling ultimately stemmed from a 2023 lawsuit filed by the Biden-era DOJ and a handful of states. The lawsuit arguably played a key role in the airline&#8217;s demise, as Spirit now struggles to get out of bankruptcy and risks becoming a ghost of aviation&#8217;s past.
“Today’s decision by JetBlue is yet another victory for the Justice Department’s work on behalf of American consumers,” then-Attorney General <a href="https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa/pr/justice-department-statements-jetblue-terminating-acquisition-spirit-airlines" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Merrick Garland</a> stated at the time.
“The Justice Department proved in court that a merger between JetBlue and Spirit would have caused tens of millions of travelers to face higher fares and fewer choices. We will continue to vigorously enforce the nation’s antitrust laws,” he added.
Peter St. Onge, an economist at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Wire that the blocked merger — along with high taxation and rising jet-fuel prices due to the ongoing conflict in Iran — have led to the airline’s woes.
“The main thing that drove them over the edge was blocking the JetBlue merger. On the day that it was denied, their stock fell 47%. And the big picture here is that the low-cost carriers can&#8217;t pass anything on, right? They have razor-thin margins, like 2 or 3%. So they need scale in order to survive,” he said.
“The Department of Justice argued that Spirit was useful because it was keeping fares low, but of course, the reason it was keeping fares low was because of that razor-thin margin. And the only way to sustain that was to get scale. So effectively the Department of Justice killed the golden goose because it was golden,” he added.
St. Onge noted that an increase in regulations under Biden added increased difficulty.
“The legacy carriers were able to pass that on. The low-cost carriers, they couldn&#8217;t pass it on,” he said.
President Donald Trump told CNBC’s &#8220;<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/21/cnbc-transcript-president-donald-trump-speaks-with-cnbcs-squawk-box-today-.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Squawk Box</a>&#8221; on Tuesday that he wants to see that airline get purchased, saying “Spirit’s in trouble” and suggesting that “maybe the federal government should help that one out.”
“I don’t mind mergers. I think I’d love somebody to buy Spirit, it’s 14,000 jobs,” he said.
However, he cautioned against a floated merger between American Airlines and United Airlines, as American Airlines denied a Reuters report over the possibility, according to <a href="https://www.fool.com/investing/2026/04/21/american-airlines-has-denied-rumors-of-a-merger-wi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Motley Fool</a>.
“But with American, it&#8217;s doing fine, and United is doing very well […] I don&#8217;t like having them merge,” Trump added.
St. Onge noted that “United and American traditionally would be an absolute no-go for antitrust” due to their much larger size, noting that Trump may view Spirit as a “special case” because of their strong emphasis on “low-cost fares” for Americans who otherwise could not afford to fly.
Last week, the Department of Transportation told The Daily Wire on background that &#8220;when Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg blocked a proposed Spirit/JetBlue merger in 2024, their DOJ bragged it was &#8216;a victory for U.S. travelers who deserve lower prices and better choices.'&#8221;
&#8220;If American consumers were faced with one fewer ultra low cost carriers, they would obviously disagree,&#8221; the department added, noting that DOT is &#8220;monitoring the situation.&#8221;
Spirit Airlines did not respond to a request for comment. The airline told <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2026/04/15/spirit-airlines-could-liquidate-as-early-as-this-week-sources-say.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNBC</a> last week that it does not “comment on market rumors and speculation.”

We now know that the Biden administration was literally partnering with abortion activists to track and imprison pro-lifers.
When I see President Trump and Pope Leo going at it, I think to myself, if we&#8217;re going to talk about presidents who are legitimately attacking Catholics, we should really be talking about Barack Obama, who went after the Little Sisters of the Poor and decided that he was going to mainstream every sin he could find.
We should talk about Joe Biden, who apparently was using the DOJ to go after pro-lifers, which is insane.
According to Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-biden-partnered-with-abortion-activists-to-track-and-imprison-pro-lifers">reporting</a>, President Biden&#8217;s administration relied on information gathered from radical pro-abortion groups to track, prosecute, and snoop on peaceful pro-life protesters who were later arrested by the FBI.
A DOJ report titled “The Biden Administration&#8217;s Weaponization of the FACE Act” examined more than 700,000 records.
The FACE Act is a bill that was designed to prevent people from obstructing entry to abortion clinics. The FACE Act also said that you weren&#8217;t allowed to invade churches during services. That came up in the context of Don Lemon and his friends invading and disturbing a church service in order to protest ICE.
The dossiers that the DOJ examined contained information about pro-life activists who had not yet been charged with any federal crimes, but were deemed threats by abortion groups because of their activism.

We&#8217;ve seen this kind of pattern emerge in all of the reporting from the Biden administration, over and over and over. They were using left-wing cutout groups to do their dirty work, whether it was the Biden administration State Department contracting out to other services to promote boycotts of right-wing news outlets, or whether it was the Biden administration outsourcing its investigative pursuits to anti-life, pro-choice organizations to target pro-lifers.
The Biden administration liked to do such things.
According to the Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-biden-partnered-with-abortion-activists-to-track-and-imprison-pro-lifers">reporting</a>, the weaponization can be traced to former Attorney General Merrick Garland&#8217;s resurrection of the National Task Force on Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers the month after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
That task force was operating out of the department&#8217;s civil rights division under the direction of Sanjay Patel, who was <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/doj-fires-4-prosecutors-face-act-biden-administration/">reportedly fired</a> on Monday. Patel was on texting terms with the National Abortion Federation security team and was regularly communicating with the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Feminist Majority Foundation, according to the DOJ. Members of the Biden DOJ were coordinating openly with various abortion groups and leaders in the abortion movement.
This was all part of these non-governmental organizations working hand-in-glove with the federal government under Joe Biden. Daily Wire reporting looked into the sentences that were sought by the Biden DOJ against pro-life activists, and what they found is that the Biden DOJ asked for a longer, average sentence for pro-life defendants compared to pro-abortion defendants. Actual sentences shook out to an average of 14 months for pro-life defendants, versus three months for pro-choice defendants.
This is astonishing. It demonstrates the full-scale animus that the Biden administration had for the pro-life movement.
This is nothing new. If you go back to the Clinton administration, the attempt to target political adversaries using the DOJ is perfectly obvious.
I&#8217;ve said over and over that the Left likes to say that Donald Trump broke all the rules, that he&#8217;s the one who killed the American political system.
The reality is that the American political system was already dead, and Trump stumbled upon it. Barack Obama used the IRS to go after pro-life groups, conservative groups, and Tea Party groups. Joe Biden&#8217;s DOJ targeted pro-lifers.
There&#8217;s nothing new here. Democrats have been doing this for a very, very long time.
Imagine the scandal if, for example, the Trump administration were coordinating with pro-life groups to go after abortion advocates. Can you imagine the scandal? Can you imagine the front page coverage?
One of the questions here is how people who were involved in this were allowed to stay at the DOJ for so long. Sanjay Patel was still working for the DOJ all the way until Monday, which is crazy and demonstrates the truth of President Trump&#8217;s statement that there is, in fact, a deep state.
There are lifelong appointees of various administrations who are still working inside the current administration — working against the president’s priorities. That&#8217;s very real. It just goes to show you that the attempt to cleanse the administration of holdovers is an ongoing pursuit.
The Democratic Party is perfectly willing to use the auspices of government to go after religious people. They&#8217;ve been doing it over and over and over again. It’s one of the reasons I said to my family that we ought to leave California. My great fear is that states like California will effectively quasi-criminalize religious practice by essentially saying that any 501C3 that receives tax-exempt status from the state government must buy into the left-wing social agenda.
If the Democrats were able to take over the Supreme Court, they would get away with that. They would be able to use anti-discrimination law as a guise for cracking down on First Amendment religiously protected activity. That is the direction that Democrats would love to move. And if left to their own devices, they absolutely would be able to do it.
If the Democrats had won in 2024, Kamala Harris would have attempted to stack the Supreme Court and state governments everywhere would be pursuing anti-religious activity just like this.
The Biden administration was, in my opinion, the worst administration in modern American history, worse even than Obama — because Obama didn&#8217;t say the quiet part out loud.

Senator Adam Schiff complained during a recent interview that former Attorney General Merrick Garland had not done enough to prosecute President Donald Trump, and claimed that the reason was Garland&#8217;s unwillingness to be seen as a partisan actor.
Schiff argued that Garland had intentionally slow-walked efforts made by then-President Joe Biden&#8217;s Justice Department to prosecute Trump — in cases that stretched across multiple jurisdictions — because he was taking precautions to ensure that those prosecutions were not partisan in nature.

Schiff, during a lengthy conversation with The New Yorker&#8217;s David Remnick, effectively complained that Garland&#8217;s &#8220;reluctance&#8221; to prosecute Trump had kept him out of prison long enough for him to win reelection.
&#8220;I hear all the time how the Justice Department under Merrick Garland, under that horrible partisan Merrick Garland, was so weaponized against Donald Trump. And that&#8217;s a complete fiction of fabrication,&#8221; Schiff insisted.
&#8220;Do you feel that Merrick Garland moved too slowly, too cautiously?&#8221; Remnick asked.
&#8220;I absolutely do. Yeah. And this is the irony of it, of attacking Merrick Garland, which is they moved with alacrity against the foot soldiers who broke into the Capitol that day,&#8221; Schiff complained. &#8220;They moved not at all for entire year against the higher-ups.&#8221;
&#8220;Why did Merrick Garland move so slowly?&#8221; Remnick pressed. &#8220;What about his character or tactics or strategy led him to behave that way?&#8221;
&#8220;The Justice Department in the first Trump was abused and made partisan, and he wished to restore the Department&#8217;s reputation for independence. Now, what they did in the first Trump Justice Department is peanuts compared to today,&#8221; Schiff insisted. &#8220;But nevertheless, Merrick Garland wanted to restore the reputation of the Department for strict non-partisanship. And that made him very reluctant to pursue an investigation of the President, too reluctant.&#8221;
Schiff then pinned the blame on the Supreme Court, arguing that Garland&#8217;s lack of urgency had given the court time to throw out additional roadblocks. His overall assessment was that Garland may have had the right idea, but that his execution had created a buffer zone around Trump that actually helped him prevail.
&#8220;Ultimately that gave the Supreme Court the time it needed to drag things out further and make the case against Trump go away completely when it could have been brought to fruition,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And we might be in a very different place today, but I think it was that laudable aim that taken too far amounted to a kind of immunity for the President.&#8221;

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed that the Department of Justice under former President Joe Biden could not possibly have been “weaponized” because Biden’s Attorney General, Merrick Garland, was not a particularly partisan actor.
Schiff spoke on Saturday at the Texas Tribune Festival, and he mocked his Republican colleagues in Congress — some of whom were actively targeted by Biden’s DOJ — saying that it was “absurd” to believe that Garland would oversee a Justice Department driven by politics.

“I listened in the Judiciary Committee to a lot of my colleagues across the aisle rail with just the most righteous indignation about the horrible weaponization of the Justice Department under that well-known partisan Merrick Garland,” Schiff began, his tone already mocking, prompting laughter around the room.
“And it was so fanciful as to be absurd, but they speak it with what appears to be total conviction,” he claimed, shifting his tone to convey shock. “And I don’t know, maybe they&#8217;re better actors than they used to be, or maybe they&#8217;ve so internalized the talking points that they&#8217;ve persuaded themselves …”
Schiff also raised eyebrows with other comments he made at the Texas Tribune Festival, particularly when he argued that lawmakers should not destroy presidents or make them “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/adam-schiff-claims-lawmakers-shouldnt-use-politics-to-destroy-presidents">unsuccessful</a>” simply because it was “good politics.”
“That attitude that you can make a president or a party unsuccessful, no matter what damage it might do to the country, because it’s good politics — we have to get past that ruinous idea,” the California senator said. “We have to figure out a way to stop viewing each other as our enemy.”
Critics, of course, quickly pointed out the fact that Schiff had spent a fair amount of his time and energy devoted to doing just that to President Donald Trump.
Schiff spent most of Trump’s first term telling any media personality who would listen that he had proof of Trump’s “collusion” with Russia — proof that he never delivered. He then served as one of the House Managers during President Trump’s first impeachment in 2019, presenting a case that was so one-sided that it provoked an angry response from George Washington University law professor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/impeachment-witness-professor-jonathan-turley-congress-committing-high-crime-and-misdemeanor-in-impeachment-without-going-to-courts">Jonathan Turley</a>.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Thursday morning that his office will charge Ryan Routh, who allegedly attempted to assassinate then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on September 15, 2024, at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, with attempted murder and terrorism.
Uthmeier also asserted that the Biden administration had stonewalled the investigation into the matter, and that former President Joe Biden and former Attorney General Merrick Garland had “sought to frustrate our efforts and block our investigation.”
Trump was playing a round of golf on September 15 when Routh allegedly hid in a bush on the outside of the golf course with a semi-automatic rifle. The suspect was spotted by a Secret Service agent as Trump neared the would-be assassin’s hideout.
“On September 15, 2024, Ryan Routh attempted to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald J. Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach,” Uthmeier declared. “Shortly after the assassination attempt, Governor DeSantis signed an executive order directing the Office of Attorney General to work with our law enforcement partners and investigate Mr. Routh.”
“After 206 days of stonewalling by the federal government that stemmed from days of the Biden administration, I’m able to now announce that my office is charging Mr. Routh for the attempted first-degree murder of President Trump as well as a charge for terrorism,” he stated. “My office, as well as our law-enforcement partners, were met with major roadblocks in prosecuting this case during Biden‘s term. Biden and his attorney general sought to frustrate our efforts and block our investigation into the man who crossed into this state and attempted to commit political violence against a Florida resident.”
“Thank God he was unsuccessful, and thank God we have Donald Trump as president again,” he stated, continuing, “The leadership of Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel was instrumental in preserving Florida’s sovereign authority to do what is right and bring justice where it is due. We now have a federal government willing to work together to pursue justice.”
“Attempting to take the life of a former president and a leading presidential candidate isn’t just an attack on one man,” he said. “This was a political attack against our republican form of government and our shared American values. We cannot allow justice to be delayed or denied, and thanks to the president, our U.S. Attorney General, and the FBI director, we are moving forward in our pursuit.”
“Our state-wide prosecutors will work to hold this evil man accountable and keep Florida safe, strong, and free,” he concluded.

Many of the defendants pleaded guilty or were found guilty, and several hundred of them were sentenced to prison.

The Associated Press <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/heres-where-jan-6-trials-stand-on-the-fourth-anniversary-of-the-capitol-riot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">says</a> hundreds of defendants &#8220;who did not engage in destruction or violence were charged only with misdemeanor offenses for entering the Capitol illegally,&#8221; while others faced more serious charges related to violence or conspiracy.
Trump <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-interview-meet-press-kristen-welker-election-president-rcna182857" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> NBC News in December that his team was &#8220;looking at&#8221; the prospect of pardoning January 6 defendants on the first day of his second term.  &#8220;Those people have suffered long and hard,&#8221; Trump said. However, Trump also conceded &#8220;there may be some exceptions&#8221; when it comes to dolling out pardons.
Last week, a federal appeals court gave Garland <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/09/politics/special-counsel-report-smith-trump/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">permission</a> to release <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-prosecutor-jack-smith-resigns-from-doj" target="_blank" rel="noopener">now-former</a> special counsel Jack Smith&#8217;s report volume on his 2020 election interference investigation into Trump, though it <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/judge-orders-doj-respond-trump-defendants-allegations-smith/story?id=117585664" target="_blank" rel="noopener">remained unclear</a> as of press time whether such a disclosure will ultimately get blocked.

A federal judge in Florida has temporarily blocked the expected release of special counsel <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jack-smith">Jack Smith</a>&#8216;s final report, a victory for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a> and his allies in the final weeks before the president-elect starts his second White House term.
Smith&#8217;s report must remain undisclosed while the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals considers a challenge from two of Trump&#8217;s former co-defendants in the classified documents case, District Court Judge Aileen Cannon <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25480420-cannon-injunction-final-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in an order on Tuesday.
Lawyers for the defendants, Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira, had <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25479596-nauta/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">requested</a> a hearing on an emergency motion to argue against the release of certain materials while contending an &#8220;unchecked release&#8221; would result in &#8220;prejudice&#8221; against them.
&#8220;Defendants are strictly precluded from refuting the Report,&#8221; their filing on Monday warned. &#8220;The Final Report is meant to serve as a Government verdict against the Defendants contrary to all criminal justice norms and constitutional guideposts.&#8221;
Cannon, a Trump appointee, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-dismisses-trump-classified-documents-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismissed</a> the <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/appeals-court-agrees-dismiss-trumps-classified-documents-case-rcna181942" target="_blank" rel="noopener">classified documents</a> case last summer. Smith appealed the decision but dropped the challenge after Trump won the 2024 election. However, the appeal with regard to Nauta and De Oliveira remains active.

The defendants&#8217; <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25479596-nauta/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filing</a> included a letter from Trump&#8217;s attorneys to Attorney General <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/merrick-garland" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Merrick Garland</a> requesting he not go along with Smith&#8217;s bid &#8220;to disseminate an extrajudicial &#8216;Final Report&#8217; to perpetuate his false and discredited accusations.&#8221;
Smith, who is <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/13/us/politics/jack-smith-special-counsel.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> stepping down from the Department of Justice before Trump is inaugurated on January 20, had responded to Nauta and De Oliveira&#8217;s motion by confirming a two-volume &#8220;confidential report&#8221; was being finalized.
The filing from the special counsel <a href="https://x.com/kyledcheney/status/1876599874193604836" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that one of the volumes pertains to the documents case, and it would not be sent to Garland before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Smith also said Garland would not release the volume to the public, if at all, before Friday.
POLITICO&#8217;s Kyle Cheney <a href="https://x.com/kyledcheney/status/1876632535515689105" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> earlier on Tuesday that Trump &#8220;is preparing to formally intervene in the effort to block Jack Smith’s report, his codefendants say. And they’re asking the 11th circuit to send the case back to Cannon so she can rule on it.&#8221;
The second volume may deal with Smith&#8217;s abandoned <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/special-counsel-jack-smith-moves-dismiss-election-interference/story?id=116207758" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2020 election subversion</a> case in Washington, D.C. District Judge Tanya Chutkan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-chutkan-dismisses-federal-election-charges-against-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismissed</a> the charges against Trump after the special counsel filed to drop the matter following the 2024 election.

President Joe Biden is reportedly angry that Attorney General Merrick Garland didn’t prosecute President-elect Donald Trump more aggressively.
Biden reportedly said he wished he had picked someone else for the job, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/12/28/bidens-lonely-battle-to-sell-american-democracy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, citing the president’s complaints about Garland’s prosecution of Trump.
“In private, Biden has also said he should have picked someone other than Merrick Garland as attorney general, complaining about the Justice Department’s slowness under Garland in prosecuting Trump, and its aggressiveness in prosecuting Biden’s son Hunter, according to people familiar with his comments,” the Post reported.
The Post went on to report that Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, pushed for Garland, claiming that as a federal judge, Garland would be seen as nonpartisan in an era when the Department of Justice was viewed as partisan due to its treatment of Trump during his presidency.
But choosing Garland led many in Biden’s circles to believe the department – which prosecuted Trump, his supporters, and pro-life activists – was too centered.
“Biden was persuaded, and some Democrats believe the decision had devastating results,” the Post reported of Biden’s decision to nominate Garland. “Had the Justice Department moved faster to prosecute Trump for allegedly seeking to overturn the 2020 election and mishandling classified documents, they say, the former president might have faced a politically damaging trial before the election.”
“(Others blame the Supreme Court and a Trump-appointed judge in Florida for repeatedly siding with the former president and delaying the cases; the Justice Department declined to comment),” the Post continued.
Trump, as president, had the power to declassify documents as he saw fit, and the Post ignores in this section that classified documents were found in Biden’s garage. As vice president under Obama, Biden had no power to declassify documents and faced no charges for taking them.
In that same Post article, Biden and his aides said they believed the current president would have won re-election if he had stayed in the race instead of dropping out, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-reportedly-says-he-wouldve-beaten-trump-in-election-wanted-garland-to-go-after-trump-harder" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Biden dropped out after a dismal debate performance that showed the American people that his health was declining and he could no longer function as president. Instead of holding a democratic vote to find a new candidate, Biden quickly endorsed his wildly unpopular vice president, Kamala Harris. Harris went on to lose the election badly, winning not even a single swing state.

Biden has also reportedly expressed regret that he chose Merrick Garland to serve as attorney general, since Garland apparently did not prosecute Trump quickly enough to substantially hurt him politically, and the AG supposedly showed &#8220;aggressiveness&#8221; in going after Biden&#8217;s son, Hunter.
&#8220;Biden and some of his aides still believe he should have stayed in the race, despite the rocky debate performance and low poll numbers that prompted Democrats to pressure him to drop out,&#8221; a Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/12/28/bidens-lonely-battle-to-sell-american-democracy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published Saturday said. &#8220;Biden and these aides have told people in recent days that he could have defeated Trump, according to people familiar with their comments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations.&#8221;
Biden, who had been showing mental decline for years, shockingly dropped out of the race in July after a dismal debate performance against Trump.

The president has also said that he was &#8220;stupid&#8221; for neglecting to put his name on COVID relief checks as a way to get more credit for what he sees as a strong economic recovery during his tenure.

The new media landscape, where Americans can bypass the bias of legacy media, was also a source of blame for Biden.
“We pick what news we want to hear — it’s a totally different deal,” Biden <a href="https://pitchforkeconomics.com/episode/the-middle-out-president-with-president-joe-biden/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> earlier this month. “We’ve got to figure out how we deal with this significant technological change. If Nixon was more accustomed to television, he wouldn’t have perspired so much, and he would be president when he’d beat Kennedy. I know that sounds silly. But think of the changes taking place. Where do you go? What is true? We have no evidence anymore. I’m not sure how that gets resolved.”

Texas Congressman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chip-roy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chip Roy</a> demanded Thursday that the FBI and Justice Department preserve all records of its prosecutions of peaceful pro-life protesters across the country.
Roy said in a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/12/2024-12-05-Roy-Biggs-to-Garland-Wray-re-FACE-Act-follow-up.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland that lawmakers had “serious questions” about the Biden administration’s “weaponization” of the FACE Act, a Clinton-era law that made it a federal crime to block the entrance of an abortion facility. Thursday’s letter, first shared with The Daily Wire, comes after the FBI ignored a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chip-roy-demands-biden-harris-admin-preserve-records-of-peaceful-pro-lifers-prosecutions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">similar request</a> from Roy in October. 
Roy, the chair of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, said that the need to keep records was “imperative” with the outgoing Biden administration and incoming Trump administration. The letter was also signed by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), the chairman of the Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Surveillance. 
“Congress has a sacred duty to preserve the rights of the American people, including the First Amendment, against any overreach by the Executive Branch,” Roy and Biggs wrote. “As we examine how to best protect Americans’ fundamental freedoms, the Subcommittees must first understand how the DOJ and FBI enforce the FACE Act.”
As written, the FACE Act is meant to protect both churches and crisis pregnancy centers. However, the Biden administration has disproportionately used it to go after pro-lifers despite an increase in targeting of pregnancy centers after Roe v. Wade was overturned. 
“However, since January 2021, the Civil Rights Division has brought a total of 24 FACE Act cases against 55 defendants, with only two of these cases — consisting of five defendants — concerning attacks on pregnancy resource centers,” Roy wrote. “You should construe this preservation notice as an instruction to take all reasonable steps to prevent the destruction or alteration, whether intentionally or negligently, of all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information and metadata, that are or may be responsive to this congressional inquiry.”

Pro-lifers are imprisoned across the country, including in Washington, D.C.. and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pro-lifer-spending-thanksgiving-in-prison-grateful-for-opportunity-a-doj-sponsored-mission-trip" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Illinois</a>, after they were successfully prosecuted by the Biden administration under the FACE Act. 
During his time in Congress, Roy has consistently pushed for the FACE Act to be repealed and has introduced legislation to end the law. Data <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-harris-doj-seeks-jail-time-for-pro-lifers-convicted-over-peaceful-protest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a> that 97% of all prosecutions of the FACE Act since its inception have been against pro-lifers.

In a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/10/2024-10-10-Roy-to-Wray-Garland-re-FACE-Act-prosecution-preservation.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> first shared with The Daily Wire, Roy called on FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland to take steps to keep all documentation of their Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) cases. The FACE Act is a Clinton-era law that makes it a federal crime to physically obstruct the entrance to an abortion facility. 
Roy, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee&#8217;s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, has long called for the FACE Act to be repealed because of its disproportionate use against pro-lifers. He told Biden administration officials that he remained &#8220;concerned with the Biden-Harris Administration’s continued weaponization of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act against pro-life Americans.”
“As the Subcommittee continues to conduct oversight over the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) enforcement of the FACE Act, serious questions remain about the disparity in prosecutions between Americans supporting life and the violent attacks on pregnancy resource centers that occurred in the wake of the leak of the draft Supreme Court opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization,” Roy wrote. 
Data <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/07/30/joe-biden-department-justice-doj-face-act-pro-life-conspiracy-against-rights/">shows that</a> 97% of all FACE prosecutions since the law&#8217;s inception have been against pro-lifers, even though the law was passed to protect churches and pregnancy centers.
“Congress has a sacred duty to preserve the rights of the American people, including the First Amendment, against any overreach by the executive branch,&#8221; Roy said. &#8220;As we examine how to best protect Americans’ fundamental freedoms, the Subcommittee must first understand how the DOJ and FBI use the FACE Act.&#8221;
Peaceful pro-life protesters across the country, from Tennessee to Washington, D.C., have received prison time in FACE Act cases. Meanwhile, a growing number of crisis pregnancy centers have been attacked in the wake of the Supreme Court&#8217;s overturning of Roe v. Wade. At least 94 centers have been vandalized since the draft of the decision to overturn Roe leaked in May 2022. 
Roy said that the FBI and Justice Department should take steps to retain all documents, communications, and other information, including electronic information, from past, present, and future prosecutions. 
The Biden-Harris administration has frequently paired FACE Act prosecutions with conspiracy against rights charges, a Reconstruction-era measure that was designed to crack down on the Ku Klux Klan. A conviction on the conspiracy charge could carry a penalty of over 11 years in prison and hundreds of thousands in fines.
Efforts to have the FACE Act struck down are underway. The Thomas More Society has filed several appeals to convictions of pro-lifers that are currently making their way through the courts.
“FACE always was about protecting one thing and that was abortion,” Thomas More Society lawyer Steve  Crampton said last month. “Since the Dobbs decision and the overturn of Roe, abortion is no longer recognized as a federally protected right. So FACE is an act without really a purpose.”

In the wake of two attempts on Donald Trump’s life, government officials are hard at work trying to determine why so many assassins are trying to kill a man government officials want dead. In their fearless pursuit of the truth, the Justice Department this week released a letter from the latest would-be killer in which the gunman offered $150,000 to anyone who would finish Trump off.
In an appearance before the news media, Attorney General Merrick Garland said, “I am absolutely appalled that this vicious criminal would offer so much money for what would be fifteen minutes’ work, twenty tops. It’s a very dangerous precedent. After all, just imagine what someone could buy with that much money! Even if you had to lay out, say, 6K for the sniper rifle, you’d still have enough left to buy almost anything you wanted. And boy oh boy, don’t the girls go for a man who flashes that big green? It’s disgraceful that anyone would think loyal Americans would take money to eliminate an existential threat to Democracy.”
The Attorney General went on to tell the news media, “The DOJ will do everything we can to foil the plans of fanatical Trump hating sociopaths, present company excepted.”

Congress, meanwhile, continues its investigation into the security failures that led to the July attempt on Trump’s life in Butler, Pennsylvania. Democrat Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee Senator Gary Peters told reporters, “We are determined to find out how a sniper got on top of a roof only a hundred yards away from Trump with an absolutely perfect line of sight where it should have been almost impossible for him to miss. I mean, really, anyone but a complete incompetent could have made that shot! In any case, we will not rest until we know which faulty radio or local police officer is to blame for the Secret Service’s failure to do their only job. Since Ronald Rowe Jr. arranged security in Butler, he has been promoted to acting head of the Service, so he more than anyone wants to fix the lapses that allowed the shooter to get in a position where, really, how could he miss? It’s absolutely baffling.”
The committee released on-site transcripts of Secret Service Agents during the Butler attack, revealing several lapses in security. The transcripts read in part:

Agent Rowe: Oh yeah, that reminds me. I think there’s a sniper on the roof. Also, we’ve received some credible threats against the president.
Agent Brennan: Well, luckily, the sniper missed.
Agent Rowe: How the hell could he miss? He was only a hundred yards away!</blockquote>
Even with the government making strenuous efforts to uncover something that sounds remotely like the truth, crazy conspiracy theorists continue to spin outlandish explanations for why a man with no motivational paper trail of any kind and no online presence except encrypted foreign bank accounts would first send a sophisticated drone to scout out a presidential appearance and then place himself in a perfect position to take an expert-level shot, which was only thwarted by the hand of God, even though God’s application to the Secret Service had recently been turned down because he’s a white man.

On one Right-wing platform, for instance, an anonymous silhouette hailed by conservatives as the “most respected schizophrenic in America,” said that history reveals how a cabal of Jews forced Hitler to use precious resources exterminating them so that he would lose World War II, allowing the few surviving Jews to escape to America where they could nuke the Christians in Nagasaki and seize control of our space lasers so that at long last they could use their unbounded power to cluster together in a country the size of a postage stamp where everyone and his uncle can easily vaporize them. These same Jews are the ones who wanted Trump eliminated because he threatened to foil their mass suicide plan by bringing peace to the region.
Some conspiracy theories are more plausible, however. For instance, it is true that the attempts to assassinate Trump were illegal, anti-Democratic, directed at American dissidents and completely incompetent, so they did bear all the hallmarks of a CIA operation.
