Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani received overwhelming support from many of New York&#8217;s wealthiest neighborhoods in Tuesday&#8217;s primary, while working-class voters earning under $50,000 rejected him by nearly 20 points in favor of ex-governor Andrew Cuomo — a margin that could increase.

Mandani emerged from the first round of New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary with roughly 44% of the vote, while Cuomo came in second with 36%.
According to election results <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/24/us/elections/nyc-mayor-primary-results-precinct-map.html">published</a> by the New York Times, Mamdani won counties with a median income of more than $117,000 by an average of 13 points, while Cuomo won counties with a median income below $62,000 by 13 points.

Cuomo trounced Mamdani by nearly 20 points among black voters, while Mamdani won white voters by 5 points, Hispanic voters by 6, and Asian-Americans by 15.
Mamdani’s margin of victory in wealthier counties is likely to increase after several rounds of ranked-choice tabulation conclude throughout the week.
Given their close relationship throughout the campaign and similar policy platforms, votes from city Comptroller Brad Lander, who received 11% of first-round votes, will likely lean in his favor.
Many of New York’s most affluent neighborhoods <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/06/24/us/elections/results-new-york-city-mayor-primary.html">went</a> for Mamdani, including Cobble Hill (45% Mamdani, 16% Cuomo), Park Slope (45% Mamdani, 13% Cuomo), and Brooklyn Heights (36% Mamdani, 24% Cuomo). Lander also won several wealthy precincts in wealthy counties, according to the Times’ results.
Cuomo overwhelmingly won several working-class neighborhoods in the South Bronx and Eastern Brooklyn, winning Far Rockaway by a dominant 58 points, and Longwood by 27. Cuomo beat Mamdani in some wealthy neighborhoods, particularly in the Upper East Side and Tribeca.
Mamdani, throughout his campaign, advocated for defunding the police, rent control expansion, government-sponsored grocery stores, higher taxes, and $65 million in taxpayer-funded “gender-affirming” trans procedures for adults and children.
Mamdani&#8217;s proposals are projected to cost the already cash-strapped city more than $10 billion.
Mamdani’s victory follows his effective use of social media to promote his platform and strategic partnerships with other far-Left Democrats. His campaign capitalized on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) endorsement to build momentum ahead of the June 24 primary.
Andrew Cuomo declined to say if he would run in the November general election as an independent for the Fight and Deliver Party, which he formed for this race.
Should the ex-governor enter the race as an independent, that would make the race a five-person contest between Cuomo, Mamdani, incumbent Democrat Mayor Eric Adams (running as an independent), Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, a talk show host, and independent Jim Walden, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

Andrew Cuomo’s scandal-plagued political career came to an unceremonious end Tuesday when voters overwhelmingly ranked their former governor below a 33-year-old socialist who wants to abolish the police and establish city-run grocery stores.
Zohran Mamdani, an Assemblyman from Queens, emerged from the first round of New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary with around 44% of the vote. Cuomo — who resigned as governor in 2021 amid allegations that he sexually harassed female staffers — came in second, with around 36% of votes. He called to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/24/nyregion/nyc-democratic-primary-election-mayor/heres-the-latest?smid=url-share">congratulate</a> Mamdani on his victory late Tuesday night, and did not say if he still plans to appear on the ballot for the Fight And Deliver Party, which he formed for this race.
“Tonight was not our night,” Cuomo said. “Tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night.”
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander, a progressive stalwart who recently got himself <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-democrat-nyc-mayoral-candidate-arrested-by-ice-at-immigration-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> at an anti-ICE protest, secured 11% of votes, placing third. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who sidestepped the Democratic primary entirely to run as an independent, told reporters today that he voted in the primary: for himself, all five times.

Mamdani&#8217;s clear, early lead came as a bit of a shock following polls that put him and Cuomo <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mixed-polls-major-stakes-experts-decode-the-tight-nyc-mayor-battle?author=Nathan+Gay&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=17&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Mixed+Polls%2C+Major+Stakes%3A+Experts+Decode+The+Tight+NYC+Mayor+Battle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">neck-and-neck</a> in the days leading up to the election. An Emerson College poll released Monday had Cuomo leading Mamdani by a slim 35% to 32% margin in first-choice votes, but found that Mamdani pulled ahead after several rounds. But a Marist University poll conducted a week prior showed Cuomo winning both in the first round and after several rounds of ranked choice.
Tuesday’s election marks the beginning of the end of a colorful and contentious primary race between 11 candidates. New York City uses ranked choice voting, in which voters select up to five candidates and rank them in order of preference. Election officials <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/24/new-york-city-mayoral-results-timeline-00420347" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won’t declare a winner</a> until one candidate wins more than 50% of first choice votes.
If no candidate receives a majority of votes on the first ballot, each voter’s last-ranked candidate is eliminated, and the votes are recalculated. It took two weeks and eight rounds of counting for Adams to clinch the nomination, though Mamdani will likely clinch the nomination sooner, given his lead. The New York City Board of Elections is <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/24/nyregion/nyc-democratic-primary-election-mayor/72784e32-1220-58bc-81a7-3417e2191df3?smid=url-share">expected</a> to deliver a final result in a week.
Regardless of who ultimately wins the Democratic nomination, Cuomo, Mamdani, and Adams are set to be on the ballot in November’s general election. They’ll face off against Republican Curtis Silwa, a talk show host, and independent Jim Walden, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
Cuomo, still mired by sexual harassment allegations and his botched handling of the COVID pandemic, became an early foil for his more progressive opponents. Mamdani encouraged his supporters to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nycs-mayoral-race-takes-sharp-turn-putting-muslim-socialist-neck-and-neck-with-cuomo">donate</a> to rival progressive Adrienne Adams&#8217; campaign. Last month, Mamdani and Lander cross-endorsed each other, urging voters not to rank Cuomo.
True to his pledge, on Tuesday, Lander <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/24/nyregion/nyc-democratic-primary-election-mayor/ea3e46b9-da7f-55b5-a471-097d6c3d382b?smid=url-share">told guests</a> at his election night party that &#8220;with our help, Zohran Mamdani will be the Democratic nominee&#8221; and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06/24/nyregion/nyc-democratic-primary-election-mayor/73bff53c-fb61-587f-b0e1-a4d68dea84a6?smid=url-share">reportedly</a> led a &#8220;goodbye Cuomo&#8221; chant at his election night party, according to the New York Times.
While none of the Democratic mayoral candidates cross-endorsed Cuomo, the former mayor racked up <a href="https://www.andrewcuomo.com/endorsements" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsements</a> from big-name Democrats like Bill Clinton and Michael Bloomberg. Mamdani has the backing of progressive stalwarts like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and a slew of <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/nyregion/mamdani-nyc-emily-ratajkowski-bowen-yang.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">celebrities</a> including Emily Ratajkowski and Cynthia Nixon, who <a href="https://x.com/CynthiaNixon/status/1937526396521218398" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> Cuomo a “TRUMP BILLIONAIRE-FUNDED SEX PREDATOR.”

And State Senator Zellnor Myrie called for the city to impose anti-racism curricula in its kindergartens.
Also on the ballot Tuesday was Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. A soft-on-crime Soros prosecutor best known for his relentless pursuit of President Donald Trump, Bragg easily defeated his <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/nyregion/alvin-bragg-manhattan-district-attorney.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sole challenger</a> to secure the Democratic nomination.

Andrew Cuomo Falls To Radical Socialist Zohran Mamdani In NYC Mayoral Primary

Former New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, 67,  and self-declared Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, 33, are facing off on Tuesday in the New York Democratic mayoral primary, with a final poll suggesting the Syrian-born lawmaker could topple the veteran politician through ranked-choice voting.
Steve Kornacki, a national political correspondent and election analyst for NBC News, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/steve-kornacki-breaking-state-new-yorks-mayoral-race-primary-day-rcna214579">paints</a> a nuanced picture of Tuesday’s primary vote, emphasizing that only two major public polls have been conducted in the lead-up to the primary, each showing vastly different results.
The Emerson College/PIX11/The Hill <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/new-york-city-mayoral-poll-june/">poll</a> shows Cuomo leading Mamdani by a slim 35% to 32% margin in first-choice votes, but after multiple rounds of ranked-choice tabulation, Mamdani overtakes the former governor to win 52% to 48%. There are 11 Democrats on the primary ballot.
A Marist University poll <a href="https://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Marist-Poll_June-NYC-NOS-and-Tables_202506162130-2.pdf">conducted</a> a week prior has Cuomo leading 38% to 27% in the initial round and 55% to 45% after several rounds of ranked choice.
In ranked-choice voting, voters rank up to five candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives more than 50% of first-choice votes, the last-place candidate is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed based on voters’ next choices until someone wins a majority.
The polls diverge in two major areas, Kornacki explains: performance among black voters and the distribution of City Comptroller Brad Lander’s votes after he is eliminated in the ranked choice tabulation.
The Marist poll showed Cuomo with a 52-point advantage among black voters in the final round, while the more recent Emerson survey indicates Mamdani has closed that gap significantly, winning 38% of black voters in the final tabulation.
Lander’s projected elimination had little impact on the final round of the Marist poll, as Cuomo’s lead diminished only slightly from 13 to 10 points. In contrast, Emerson’s final round shows Lander’s votes propelling Mamdani to a 4-point lead over Cuomo after trailing in the prior round.
Brad Lander, recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-democrat-nyc-mayoral-candidate-arrested-by-ice-at-immigration-court">arrested</a> at an immigration court protest, could emerge as the race&#8217;s kingmaker.
Lander and Mamdani formed a strategic alliance last week, with each candidate asking supporters to include the other in their ranked ballots while excluding Cuomo — a move that explains why Mamdani gains substantially if Lander is eliminated in the tabulation process.
Political analyst and statistician Nate Silver <a href="https://x.com/NateSilver538/status/1937185148736618695">points out</a>, “[O]ne of the nuances of RCV (ranked-choice voting) is that negative campaigning can backfire just because it puts your name more in voters&#8217; minds and therefore they&#8217;ll list you *somewhere* on their ballot.”
&#8220;I&#8217;m hearing things I don&#8217;t like about this Zohran guy, I&#8217;d better make sure to list him below [preferred choices] on my ballot’ is a lot *better* for Zohran than if voters don&#8217;t list him at all. Cuomo may benefit from this effect too,” Silver <a href="https://x.com/NateSilver538/status/1937185150611357725">adds</a>.
Kornacki predicts the tallying will likely continue past Tuesday, and the primary result might not even indicate the next mayor of deep blue New York City.
But no matter who wins the Democratic primary, both Cuomo and Mamdani are expected to appear on the general election ballot. Cuomo has already created the &#8220;Fight and Deliver Party,&#8221; which will allow him to appear on the November ballot regardless of today&#8217;s outcome, while Mamdani is poised to be the candidate of the Working Families Party in the event of defeat.
Meanwhile, current Democratic Mayor Eric Adams is running as an independent in the general election, while Republicans are poised to nominate Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa. The potential addition of both Cuomo and Mamdani further crowds the field for the general election in November.

With the Democratic primary in the New York City Mayoral election only a day away, the competition for who will likely be in charge of the largest city in the country is reaching a boiling point. The two front runners are Andrew Cuomo, former New York state Governor who resigned in disgrace after multiple scandals, and Zohran Mamdani, a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who seems ready to burn the city to the ground to become king of the ashes.
Andrew Cuomo was a horrific governor of New York State. He pushed radical, far-Left agendas on a variety of issues, from gun control to abortion to climate change. He raised taxes, demonized and prosecuted his political opponents. He also oversaw a mass exodus from the state. And yet, he is the best chance New York Democrats have of avoiding complete ruin.
Zohran Mamdani, on the other hand, is the epitome of an ignorant, spoiled millennial who appears to have read the Wikipedia entry on Karl Marx and never looked back. If he were white, he would assert his identity with a half dozen facial piercings and by dying his hair blue.
Born in Uganda to Indian parents, Mamdani is a silver-spoon socialist who hates capitalism, hates the West, and is pushing policies that will destroy New York City and the surrounding areas.
Mamdani’s policy platform on his <a href="https://www.zohranfornyc.com/">campaign website</a> reads like a 6th grader running for class president who promises free pizza for lunch and unlimited recess for all. He wants to freeze rent and build affordable housing, which is a mutually exclusive proposition. If landlords cannot make money on their properties, then investment in new properties dries up. If new properties, like Class 2 apartment buildings, dry up, then a significant portion of tax revenue to the city disappears, leaving no money for the city to invest in “affordable” housing. Rent control has failed everywhere it’s been tried because people don’t leave their apartments. The prices on all other apartments then skyrocket to make up for the shortfalls as a result. 
Mamdani wants to build a “Department of Community Safety,” which is socialist lingo for defunding the police. He wants to pull money from the police budget and give it to social workers who will be ill-equipped to deal with the myriad problems. So the issues that arise from this are two-fold. First, you have fewer police officers. The policemen who are left will then need to use more aggressive tactics to ensure order, leading to more confrontations with the community, leading to more unrest and crime. Second, New Yorkers are then left with unqualified, unarmed civilians dealing with severe issues in the worst parts of the city. When they find themselves in over their heads — and they will — they will slow their work down to focus on the few cases they can handle and ignore the rest, leaving mentally unstable people on the streets for the general public to worry about.

Mamdani also proposes a network of city-owned grocery stores. This plan is straight out of the communist playbook. In his TikTok video promoting the idea, Mamdani says that grocery stores are too expensive. His proposal will simultaneously increase the overhead costs of grocery stores via property costs, congestion pricing, adding to delivery costs, and green new deal policies that increase the costs of electricity and maintenance. He will undercut pricing until other, independent stores can’t compete and will be forced to close, leaving only city-owned grocery stores. Then the stores themselves will either have to skyrocket the prices, have little to no inventory, or be massively subsidized by taxpayer dollars, creating another redistribution scheme.
His proposal on childcare? Free childcare, of course. Get the kids early and keep them forever, that’s the socialist motto. Once again, no plans on how to pay for this.
Mamdani also wants free bussing around the city, which brings in approximately $1.2 billion in revenue for the <a href="https://council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2024/03/MTA.pdf">MTA</a>. Other, saner people would actually talk about prosecuting <a href="https://www.cityandstateny.com/policy/2024/05/cracking-down-fare-evasion-new-yorks-subways-and-buses/396821/">fare evasion</a>, which costs $350-700 million per year and forces the rest of the public to pick up the monetary slack, but Mamdani actually wants to reward the criminals and say that everyone gets free bussing. Of course, he also claims that this means that buses will be safer and cleaner to ride and everyone will love them, when in reality, this means that they will become mobile homeless shelters or overcrowded nightmares.
The gaslighting by Mamdani is shockingly brazen. Recently, he touted his free bussing proposal while riding the Staten Island Ferry. He claimed on social media that since the ferry is free, why can’t bussing be free? Either he doesn’t know that the ferry costs well over <a href="https://council.nyc.gov/budget/wp-content/uploads/sites/54/2024/03/MTA.pdf">$100 million</a> per year to operate while the bus system costs over $4 billion per year, or is assuming that his audience is too dumb to put that together. Either way, it doesn’t matter to Mamdani, because to a socialist, everything can be paid for just because they say it can.
How will Mamdani pay for all of his proposals? You guessed it, he will raise taxes.
All of these proposals come directly from Mamdani’s campaign website and should concern every responsible New Yorker. It’s his opinions and views on Israel and the Jews, however, that should concern them even more.
His defenders will, of course, claim that he doesn’t hate Jews — and anti-Zionist Leftist Jews from “IfNotNow” and “Jewish Voice For Peace” will line up around the block to take pictures with him to prove that he’s not anti-Semitic. But that’s all a sham.
Mamdani was the sponsor of the ‘<a href="https://www.notonourdime.com/">Not On Our Dime</a>’ act in Albany, one of the first bills he proposed. It would empower the Attorney General to shut down any non-profit (which includes any synagogue) that gave charity to any entity in the “Occupied Palestinian Territories.” Now, he would claim that he means Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, but everyone knows that the pro-Hamasniks believe that all of Israel is truly the “Occupied Palestinian Territory.” They literally wear t-shirts that say exactly that.
Mamdani also does not believe Israel should exist as a Jewish state. So the standard that applies to the 27 Muslim, 13 Christian, or two Buddhist countries does not apply to the only Jewish state?

During the recent Democratic mayoral debate, when asked specifically if Israel should exist as a Jewish state, Mamdani replied, “I believe Israel can exist as a state with equal rights.” His statement ignores the fact that Israel offers equal rights for all its citizens, that Arabs serve in the Israeli government, on courts, and any other setting they wish to. In fact, Israel has far more equality than Mamdani’s birth country of Uganda.
So, Mamdani wants to shut down every Jewish non-profit or synagogue, thinks the Jewish state should be eradicated, and we’re supposed to believe he doesn&#8217;t hate the Jews?
This couldn’t come at a more important time. Recently, Molotov cocktails were thrown at Jews in Boulder, Colorado, for the crime of wanting to free Jewish hostages. Several weeks ago, two young people were shot in Washington, D.C., for the crime of attending an Israeli event. Students in New York City can’t get to classes, the streets have been blocked, and lives have been ruined. Will this mayoral hopeful have an interest in directing what remains of his police force to protect the Jews who live in his city, or will he publish a trite statement on social media and turn a blind eye?
Now we’re seeing riots in Los Angeles and around the country as deranged Leftists take on ICE agents. The president activated the National Guard to prevent a return to the summer of 2020. Will Mamdani stoke the same fires as Democrats in California have, calling them a “mostly peaceful protests” while the fires burn? Will he throw fuel on those fires?
This election could be a breaking point for New York City. Everything that can be done to prevent Mamdani from winning must be done right now. The future of New York is in the hands of the voters. If they sit this one out, they only have themselves to blame.

Democrats have been wondering what has happened to their party. 
Why is it that Donald Trump has been elected twice in a three-election span? Why is it that the Democrats are currently riding in the 20% range with regard to their popularity in American life? Where did Democrats go wrong?
When you look at the public figures who are being put forward by the Left as the most salient, the most important, the most brilliant thinkers, the people who need to lead the country, they are all from Manbun McSoy Boy’s neck of the woods.
All of them.
The AOC self-congratulatory Democratic Socialists of America wing of the Democratic Party — people who have barely held a job, with a huge percentage of them getting a college education on the dime of their parents, the vast majority of whom are white — are taking over the Democratic Party.
The luxury beliefs that are held by white, college educated liberals are at complete odds with reality. For them, it’s all about values signaling. &#8220;Do you need to even work, bro? Who cares about your work, bro? Your job? Your community? Your safety?&#8221;
What really matters is that you&#8217;re holding the right lawn sign.
For the Democratic Party, it has become all about sounding off. It&#8217;s all about the performative. It&#8217;s all about the “resistance.”

One of the things that has truly broken the country is the primary process in both parties, but largely in the Democratic Party. That primary process, which says that the most motivated Left wingers are going to decide who the nominees are, has completely skewed the nature of American politics.
Thus, there is a brand new poll showing that the new frontrunner in the New York Democratic mayoral primary is not Andrew Cuomo, the disgraced former governor who&#8217;s now running for mayor in New York; it’s a person named Zohran Mamdani, according to a new poll by Public Policy Polling. (Mayor Eric Adams, who was a Democrat, is now running as an Independent.)
Who exactly is Zohran Mamdani? A state lawmaker from Queens, an open democratic socialist, one of these privileged, highly educated people who is completely disconnected from real life. He is the son of a Hollywood director and a college professor at Columbia University. He’s 33 and never held a real job.
He believes there should be city-run <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@zohran_k_mamdani/video/7447528235836902686" target="_blank" rel="noopener">grocery stores</a>, because the problem with grocery stores is that they operate at a profit motive. He’s a full-scale Bernie Sanders nut case. He said, “We will redirect city funds from corporate supermarkets to city-owned grocery stores whose mission is lower prices, not price gouging. These stores will operate without a profit motive or having to pay property taxes or rent, and we&#8217;ll pass on those savings to you.”
That&#8217;s not how things work. The Soviet Union tried to operate “stores without profit motive.” You know what ended up happening? Misallocation of resources. What ends up happening is shortages, because the profit motive is what determines how to control supply, what to bring into the grocery store and what not to.
“We have to make it very clear that people cannot eat words,” he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K7HDuoJ0MQ">declared</a>. “People need to have actual food. People need to have actual houses to live in, people need to have actual schools that they can go to. And I think it&#8217;s so critical that this journey into understanding the way in which we should relate to power, this journey and understanding that it is socialism that we are fighting for, is a journey that should begin as soon as possible for every single person in this country and this world.”
How radical is Mamdani? He said in 2020 that the New York Police Department — this was in 2020, while the riots were going on — should be removed from high-crime areas.
These are luxury beliefs. These are beliefs that nobody who actually lives on the ground in New York City holds, except for white libs and their allies. Mamdani isn&#8217;t white, but his voting base is predominantly white.
The New York Times even asked him about his voting base and the fact that they&#8217;re predominantly white, saying, “The polls show you&#8217;re doing really well with younger, whiter, more progressive voters. Why do you think you&#8217;re having a harder time with voters of color, who seem to be supporting former Governor Cuomo?” 
Mamdani suggested it was because the vast majority of New Yorkers had yet to tune in to the race. He said the polling obscured Asian New Yorkers, who were not listed as a category.
That’s not why. The answer is, as I’ve said, because the luxury beliefs that are held by white, college educated liberals are at complete odds with reality.
In 2020, Mamdani called for defunding the police. In February 2024, he was screaming about Israeli genocide while wearing a keffiyeh.
This is the guy who&#8217;s on the verge of becoming mayor of New York City, the most populous city in the United States. This is how off the rails the Democratic Party is.
Mamdani is a representation in human form of the Omnicause, the leftist agglomeration of grievances in one giant cause.
The question is not why people like Mamdani exist. We know why: They&#8217;ve been turned out by the university system, by a far-Left in this country that is taking control of the commanding heights of American popular culture and education and the media.
Name one political difference between the obnoxious Swedish woman child Greta Thunberg and this obnoxious American manchild now running for mayor in New York.

Days after being endorsed by fellow democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Zohran Mamdani is leading former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor for the first time, according to a poll released on Wednesday.
The <a href="https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000197-6195-da2a-a9bf-6fbd7abe0000">poll</a>, conducted by Public Policy Polling for Democrat Justin Brannan&#8217;s city comptroller campaign, showed Mamdani leading the primary 35% to Cuomo&#8217;s 31%, within a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points. The survey of 573 likely Democratic voters was conducted on June 6-7, one day after AOC endorsed Mamdani.
The results indicate that the primary has effectively narrowed to a two-person contest between Mamdani and Cuomo, with no other candidates breaking double digits, despite endorsements from a plethora of top New York Democratic officials.
Mamdani, 33, elected to the State Assembly in 2020, has positioned himself as a leftist alternative to Cuomo&#8217;s more moderate brand of Democratic politics, campaigning on free public bus fares, free child care, and city-run grocery stores. The self-described democratic socialist has yet to present any realistic plan to pay for these programs, which would <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/27/zohran-mamdani-policy-pitches-new-york-00369756">require</a> roughly $10 billion in funding for an already cash-strapped city.

&#8220;When you run a disciplined, grassroots campaign relentlessly focused on an agenda to address the crises in working people&#8217;s lives, these are the results,&#8221; Mamdani spokesperson Andrew Epstein said. &#8220;New York City is so close to turning the page on the corrupt politics of the past and winning a future we can afford.&#8221;
Cuomo&#8217;s campaign has disputed the poll results, with spokesperson Rich Azzopardi <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/11/zohran-mamdani-climbs-to-top-of-poll-leading-andrew-cuomo-00401594">telling</a> POLITICO that their internal polling shows the former governor maintaining &#8220;a consistent double-digit lead for more than three months.&#8221; The Cuomo spokesman complained that &#8220;the only polls showing this trend line are paid for by Zohran Mamdani Inc,&#8221; and, &#8220;It&#8217;s not lost on us that Politico is the only NYC media outlet that continues to take these outlier polls.&#8221;
According to POLITICO, the poll methodology might have slightly favored Mamdani, as 61% of responses came from text messages rather than landlines.
The former governor has recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cuomo-says-hell-spend-eight-years-in-washington-fighting-trump-if-he-wins-nyc-mayors-race?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Cuomo+Says+He%E2%80%99ll+Spend+%E2%80%98Eight+Years+In+Washington%E2%80%99+Fighting+Trump+If+He+Wins+NYC+Mayor%E2%80%99s+Race">sharpened</a> his attacks against Mamdani, questioning his &#8220;thin resume&#8221; and ability to lead New York City&#8217;s complex government. Cuomo maintains 42% support among black voters, while Mamdani showed the strongest appeal with white and Asian voters.
Ranked choice voting, which will be used in the Democratic primary in two weeks, was not simulated in the survey. However, a recent Emerson <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/nyc-2025-poll/">poll</a> showed Mamdani performing better in later rounds of ranked choice voting than in early rounds by picking up second-choice votes after other candidates are eliminated, which could indicate an even larger lead than the PPP poll suggests.
In ranked-choice voting, voters rank up to five candidates in order of preference, and if no candidate receives more than 50% of first-choice votes, the last-place candidate is eliminated and their votes are redistributed based on voters&#8217; next choices until someone wins a majority.
Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, running as an independent this cycle, has been far behind both Mamdani and Cuomo in general election polling, and is reportedly <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/30/us-news/eric-adams-quietly-tries-to-rally-nyc-republicans-to-run-on-gop-line-or-back-his-independent-mayoral-bid-as-politicos-grew-fearful-of-socialist-zohran-mamdani/">courting</a> Big Apple Republicans for support. Adams, who made an <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/22/adams-and-homan-deepen-partnership-law-enforcement-ice-00305221">alliance</a> with Trump border czar Tom Homan earlier this year, moved to open an ICE office on Rikers Island and cooperated to indict 27 alleged Tren de Aragua members.
Cuomo and Mamdani will face each other again in a debate Thursday night, where Cuomo is expected to continue highlighting Mamdani&#8217;s limited government experience and the fiscal impact of his policy proposals.

Democratic Socialist Surges Ahead Of Cuomo In NYC Mayor Race: Poll

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani surged to within single digits of disgraced former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary race, according to newly released polling.
According to a PIX 11/Emerson College poll released earlier this week, Mamdani, a 33-year-old Muslim from Queens who is a state assemblyman, trails Cuomo 54.4% to 45.6% after 10 simulated rounds of ranked-choice voting, a notable improvement from late March when Cuomo was ahead 38% to 10%.
“Cuomo has led in the polls since early 2025, but Mamdani has surged, gaining 23 points and winning second-choice votes nearly 2-to-1, cutting Cuomo’s ranked-choice lead from 12 points to 9 points,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, <a href="https://emersoncollegepolling.com/nyc-2025-poll/">said</a>. &#8220;With four weeks to go, the question is whether Cuomo can run out the clock, or if he needs to win over second-choice voters to hold off Mamdani&#8217;s momentum.”
Cuomo maintained his strong lead in the early rounds of ranked choice voting in the poll, with Mamdani only closing the gap in later rounds.
In ranked-choice voting, voters rank up to five candidates in order of preference, and if no candidate receives more than 50% of first-choice votes, the last-place candidate is eliminated and their votes are redistributed based on voters&#8217; next choices until someone wins a majority.
The ranked-choice voting system appears to be working to Mamdani&#8217;s advantage, as, according to the poll, he continues gaining ground by picking up second-choice votes after other candidates are eliminated.
Per the Emerson report, “35% of voters support former Governor Andrew Cuomo on the first round of the ballot, 23% support State Rep. Zohran Mamdani, 11% support Comptroller Brad Lander, 9% former State Rep. Scott Stringer, 8% City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, and 5% State Senator Zellnor Myrie.”
“Cuomo’s strongest support comes from black voters (74%), voters over 50 (66%), and women (58% to 42%),” Kimball added. “Mamdani leads among voters under 50 with 61%, and holds an edge among white voters (57% to 43%) and college-educated voters (58% to 42%).”

Cuomo’s campaign maintains that the Emerson poll is an “outlier,” with campaign spokesman Rich Azzopardi <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/state/3425895/zohran-mamdani-andrew-cuomo-new-york-city-mayor-race-closes-gap-poll/">telling</a> the Washington Examiner that the ex-governor “is the consistent and overwhelming frontrunner in this race.”
However, Mamdani has effectively formed strategic alliances with other left-wing candidates in an effort to block the 67-year-old former governor&#8217;s political comeback and consolidate his base.
Mamdani called on his supporters to <a href="https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2025/05/how-much-did-zohran-mamdanis-call-action-help-adrienne-adams-fundraising/405674/?oref=csny-skybox-lander">contribute</a> to rival progressive Adrienne Adams&#8217; campaign in order to help her qualify for matching public funds in a slight against Cuomo, aiming to pick up second-choice votes after other candidates are eliminated.
In a hypothetical general election matchup, the poll shows Cuomo performs better against Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, with Cuomo winning 44% support compared to 35% for Mamdani if he were the Democratic nominee. Sliwa is the founder of the Guardian Angels and lost the 2021 mayoral election to current New York Mayor Eric Adams, a registered Democrat running this cycle as an independent, according to Emerson College Polling.
Meanwhile, incumbent Mayor Adams, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-adams-back-in-nyc-mayor-race-as-an-independent">running</a> as an independent, would receive just 10% support against Cuomo but would climb to 15% against Mamdani.

The Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/27/us-news/zohran-mamdani-makes-up-ground-in-nyc-mayoral-race-but-still-cant-topple-cuomos-lead-poll/">adds</a> that ranked-choice surveys released by other pollsters, including Mamdani’s own polling released on Tuesday, show Cuomo defeating the democratic socialist by significant margins.
The Emerson poll was conducted with 1,000 registered NYC voters with a margin of error of +/- 3%, and the ranked choice voting simulation included 500 Democrats, excluding undecided voters, with a margin of error of +/- 4.3 percentage points.
The primary election is scheduled for June 24, with early voting beginning June 14.

NYC’s Mayoral Race Takes Sharp Turn, Putting Muslim Socialist Neck-And-Neck With Cuomo

Disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), who resigned amid twin scandals regarding his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, is now the subject of an investigation undertaken by the U.S. Justice Department.
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/20/us/politics/andrew-cuomo-investigation-doj.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Tuesday that the investigation had begun about one month earlier, and that it stemmed from his order mandating that nursing homes in the state of New York accept patients regardless of whether or not they&#8217;d tested positive for COVID-19.
The times cited two as-yet-unnamed &#8220;sources familiar with the matter&#8221; and said, &#8220;The Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation of Andrew M. Cuomo, a front-runner in the New York City mayoral race, after Republicans accused him of lying to Congress about decisions he made during the coronavirus pandemic as governor.&#8221;
A Justice Department spokesperson reportedly declined to comment on the situation, citing a policy against discussing ongoing investigations either to confirm or deny their existence.
Cuomo is currently leading the Democratic field going into the next New York City mayoral election, and his spokesman Rich Azzopardi claimed that the investigation was politically motivated.
&#8220;We have never been informed of any such matter, so why would someone leak it now? The answer is obvious: This is lawfare and election interference plain and simple — something President Trump and his top Department of Justice officials say they are against,&#8221; Azzopardi said, arguing that Cuomo had &#8220;testified truthfully to the best of his recollection about events from four years earlier, and he offered to address any follow-up questions from the subcommittee — but from the beginning this was all transparently political.&#8221;
The investigation was opened by the Washington, D.C., U.S. Attorney’s Office when Ed Martin was still serving in the position on an interim basis. Jeanine Pirro has since been appointed to the role and her office will spearhead the investigation.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said after a hearing in June of 2024 that he had seen &#8220;overwhelming evidence&#8221; that Cuomo had been part of a 2020 audit that undercounted COVID nursing home deaths by 46%. He was referred to the Justice Department for what were termed &#8220;criminally false statements.&#8221;
The news comes just weeks after the Justice Department dropped a case against current Mayor Eric Adams — who is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-adams-back-in-nyc-mayor-race-as-an-independent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">running for reelection</a> as an independent — over concerns that it had been a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-judge-dismisses-corruption-case-against-nyc-mayor-eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">political prosecution</a> undertaken by the DOJ under former President Joe Biden.

Justice Department Probe Takes Aim At Andrew Cuomo Amid His NYC Mayoral Bid

Just one day after a federal judge <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-judge-dismisses-corruption-case-against-nyc-mayor-eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dismissed</a> his corruption case, New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams announced that he is running for re-election as an independent, skipping the Democratic primary to focus on November&#8217;s general election.
Adams, who has served as mayor since 2022, said that the months-long corruption case brought against him &#8220;dragged on too long, making it impossible to mount a primary campaign while these false accusations were held over me.&#8221; He was indicted on federal charges last September that included accepting payment for overseas travel expenses paid by wealthy Turkish nationals.
In an announcement video posted to X, Adams said that while he remains a Democrat, he will &#8220;forego the Democratic primary for mayor and appeal directly to all New Yorkers as an independent candidate in the general election.&#8221; Adams <a href="https://abc7ny.com/post/nyc-mayoral-race-2025-new-york-city-candidates-mayor-push-back-comments-made-andrew-cuomo/16118468/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trails</a> other Democrats in <a href="https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2025/3/26/cuomo-leads-nyc-mayors-race-with-39-mamdani-at-15-all-other-candidates-in-single-digits" target="_blank" rel="noopener">polling</a> for the June 24 primary. Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned as governor amid sexual harassment allegations, leads Democratic candidates in the race, followed by Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.
Adams added, &#8220;I firmly believe that this city is served by truly independent leadership, not leaders pulled at by the extremists on the far-Left or the far-Right, but instead those rooted in the common middle, the place where the vast majority of New Yorkers are firmly planted.&#8221;
&#8220;New Yorkers are strong and they deserve strong leadership,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;And when New Yorkers worry about their bills at the kitchen table or feeling safe on a subway platform, they don&#8217;t expect a political party to help. They want leadership from a person who understands their struggle and their story.&#8221;

The decision gives Adams more time to submit his petitions to the Board of Elections to qualify for the ballot, The New York Post reported. Instead of submitting the petitions on Thursday to qualify for the Democratic primary, the mayor has until May 27 to come up with 3,750 more petitions. According to the Post, Adams has just $3 million cash on hand as he struggles to regain New Yorkers&#8217; trust following the corruption accusations.
U.S. District Judge Dale Ho dismissed the charges against Adams on Wednesday &#8220;with prejudice,&#8221; meaning the Department of Justice cannot bring charges against Adams in the future based on the same evidence. Adams was indicted by the DOJ under the Biden administration, a move that senior Trump officials argued was politically motivated to punish Adams for his criticism of former President Joe Biden&#8217;s immigration policies.
The DOJ dropped the case against Adams weeks after President Donald Trump was sworn into office, and Adams made an appearance with Trump&#8217;s border czar Tom Homan on &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; after the case was dropped to discuss cracking down on violent illegal immigrants in New York.
In his dismissal of the case, Ho stressed the importance of formally dropping it &#8220;with prejudice,&#8221; writing that if the DOJ were allowed to resurrect the charges, it “would create the unavoidable perception that the Mayor’s freedom depends on his ability to carry out the immigration enforcement priorities of the administration, and that he might be more beholden to the demands of the federal government than to the wishes of his own constituents.”

But since 2020 the city has lost more than 53,000 residents.

Former Oakland Democrat Mayor Sheng Thao and three other individuals were indicted on federal corruption charges last week for their part in an alleged bribery scheme.
The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that in addition to Thao, her longtime romantic partner, Andre Jones, and local businessmen David Trung Duong and Andy Hung Duong were also charged in the case.
&#8220;In the weeks leading up to the City of Oakland mayoral election in November 2022 and following her election as mayor, Thao promised to take official actions as the mayor of Oakland to benefit David Duong and Andy Duong, in exchange for the Duongs providing various benefits to Thao and Jones,&#8221; the statement said, according to the recently unsealed indicted.
David Duong was the president and CEO of a recycling company that provided residential recycling collection services to Oakland households, and was also the chairman and co-owner of a housing company formed to develop and manufacture prefabricated modular homes, the DOJ said. Andy Duong, David Duong’s son, was an employee of the recycling company and also a founder and co-owner of the housing company.
&#8220;The indictment describes that Thao promised to commit the City of Oakland to purchase housing units from the Duongs’ housing company, extend the City’s contract with the Duongs’ recycling company, and appoint city officials selected by the Duongs,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;In exchange, David and Andy Duong promised to and did fund a $75,000 negative mailer campaign targeting Thao’s opponents in the mayoral election, and made $95,000 in payments to Jones for a no-show job with their housing company, with the promise of additional payments, all intended for the benefit of Thao and Jones.&#8221;

Prosecutors said that once Thao became mayor in January 2023, she allegedly continued the corrupt scheme by following through on delivering her end of the deal.
&#8220;Defendants allegedly took steps to conceal their bribery scheme by, among other actions: at Thao’s direction, making the bribe payments to Jones to avoid a paper trail to Thao; misrepresenting that Jones had a legitimate job with the Duongs’ housing company to mask the bribery payments; creating false invoices for the bribe payments from the Duongs’ recycling company; and failing to disclose benefits received on California Form 700, Statement of Economic Interests,&#8221; the statement added.
All four defendants in the case were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery; one count of bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds; one count of conspiracy to commit honest services mail and wire fraud; one count of honest services mail fraud; and two counts of honest services wire fraud.
Prosecutors also charged Andy Duong with one count of making false statements to government agents.
If convicted, the defendants could each face more than 60 years in prison.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said this week that Republican governors needed to ship illegal aliens in their states to Denver after far-Left Denver Mayor Mike Johnston vowed to protect them from being deported after President-elect Donald Trump is sworn in.
In an interview with a local publication, Johnston <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/denver-mayor-warns-trump-of-tiananmen-square-moment-if-he-rounds-up-illegal-immigrants">said</a> he would deploy the Denver Police Department “stationed at the county line to keep [Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers] out.”
He went even further, warning of a “Tiananmen Square moment.” He also said that he was willing to go to jail to stop the deportations.
Cruz reacted to the comments during the most recent episode of his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson.
