<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matthew-mcconaughey" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matthew McConaughey</a> claimed during an interview published Thursday that a psychic convinced him to accept the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leading role</a> in “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” opposite Kate Hudson.
The 53-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/movies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">movie star</a> told the story during an <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2023/02/how-to-lose-a-guy-in-10-days-oral-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Vanity Fair in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary this year. 
&#8220;I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard when suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortuneteller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?’ I was like, &#8216;Yeah, man. Sure,’&#8221; McConaughey recalled.
&#8220;He immediately goes, ‘There’s a movie you’re considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it will be one of the biggest regrets of your life. It is going to be a blast, it is going to be an incredible experience and it is going to make a bunch of money,’&#8221; he continued.
The actor remembered wondering if the studio had set up the interaction to convince him but ultimately determined the interaction was real. &#8220;Did the studio hire this guy? I laughed at the thought, but I also remember taking a more serious consideration. I think I even accepted the offer the next day.&#8221;
While McConaughey had already starred in several big-name projects by 2003, he hadn’t made the transition to starring in romantic comedies yet. The movie’s producer admitted to being skeptical about casting the actor, too.
Lynda Obst told Vanity Fair that a talent agent pitched McConaughey to her.
&#8220;I’m like, ‘Well, Matthew McConaughey is so Texan, but it’s kind of genius.’ So that’s in the back of my head. Now we’re in the meeting and [then-Paramount President] Sherry [Lansing] says to Kate [Hudson], &#8216;We have to bring this to a head. We have to find an actor that we both agree with,'&#8221; she said.
Obst recalled bringing up McConaughey&#8217;s name during the discussion. &#8220;And then Sherry said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ And Kate said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ And John Goldman said, ‘Matthew McConaughey.’ Everybody just looked at each other, and Kate said, ‘I would do it with him.’&#8221;
During the interview, the movie execs also mentioned how Gwyneth Paltrow was originally slated to play the lead actress role but later had to pull out of the project. 
Hudson also said that there are no plans for a sequel to the hit romantic comedy. &#8220;My hope is that [Andie and Ben] are happy, they’ve got a bunch of kids, they got married, and they’re still playing Bulls*** with his parents,&#8221; she told Vanity Fair. &#8220;If there was a sequel, I’m sure there would be some conflict in there somewhere.&#8221;

Actor <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/matthew-mcconaughey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matthew McConaughey</a> visited Congress shortly after the horrific school shooting in his home town of Uvalde, Texas, and he shared what he learned in a no-holds-barred op-ed that blistered both parties.
<a href="https://dailywire.com/news/conservatives-slam-gun-control-activist-matthew-mcconaughey-thats-gonna-be-a-no-from-me-dawg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McConaughey</a> explained in the <a href="https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/a41502792/matthew-mcconaughey-gun-reform-uvalde/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a>, which was published on Tuesday, that he had gone to Washington, D.C., hoping to find people there who wanted to see change and perhaps to be a part of bringing about that change. Instead, he said, he found a number who were unwilling to take risks because they feared it could impact their chances at being re-elected.

&#8220;Writing this story was hard. It’s personal—for me, but more so for the victims and their families, who have paid the ultimate cost. Which is why I’ve hesitated to write it,&#8221; McConaughey prefaced the article. &#8220;Observing from the front lines, then sharing what I saw—it makes me feel a bit like a fraud. Am I trespassing? Sharing sacred secrets that are not my stories to tell? I hope not.&#8221;
The Oscar-winning actor, who grew up in Uvalde, headed home as soon as he heard about the shooting. &#8220;This would be a journey with a one-way ticket. We had no sense of how long we’d go for, nor a plan beyond showing up. But we knew that if we did, purpose would intercept us,&#8221; he said — and when he arrived with his wife, model Camila Alves, they made a point to avoid media. Instead, they went from home to home — where they hugged, listened to, and spoke with the families who had just endured the unthinkable.
He then turned to the topic of gun control — and his own early experience with a father who taught him that firearms were to be treated with respect and used only in the proper fashion.
&#8220;I was nine, and I still remember the sober tone he assumed while presenting it. &#8216;This is a tool, son,&#8217; he said. &#8216;It can feed you, and it can take a life. You must give it full respect,’” McConaughey wrote of receiving his first BB gun. &#8220;He instilled in me the rules of engagement: barrel management, muzzle control, safety catch, secure storage, the awareness of what’s behind your target.&#8221;
His belief that protecting the Second Amendment came along with a responsibility to protect children sent him to Washington, D.C., shortly thereafter. He said that he had initially intended to try to meet with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), but that he had eventually set up a number of meetings with members of both parties from all over the country.
&#8220;I arrived in Washington with such a reverence for our government and those who run it. While I’m not going to say that I lost that reverence, I did see the most powerful legislators in America playing an implicit political game, one they seemed to be handcuffed to, even systematically imprisoned by, as if it were the price of entry,&#8221; the actor continued, noting that one of the key takeaways from his trip to the nation&#8217;s capital was a crash course in just how frustrating politics can be for those in the middle of it.
&#8220;It sometimes feels like politicians don’t really want solutions, because solutions would put them out of a job. Optics are often prized over substance—who gets the credit often takes precedence over whom that credit is serving, or how well,&#8221; he wrote, adding, &#8220;With a disparity between belief and action, it’s hard to be in the make-a-difference business if you’re only in the reelection business.&#8221;
McConaughey&#8217;s conclusion was simple: the American people needed to take the power back from both party&#8217;s extremes.
&#8220;We are reasonable and responsible, and we share more values than we’re being told we do—and we believe that meeting each other in the middle is in service of the greater good. We have the majority. We have the numbers,&#8221; he explained. &#8220;That’s why it’s high time we take the megaphone back from the extremists who’ve been manufacturing these false fractures among us. They’ve been selling us soft porn at the pep rally for too long. It’s time to kick them off the port and starboard sides of the boat on which American democracy sails &#8230; or at least relegate them to mopping the deck.&#8221;

The “Dazed and Confused” star, who has flirted with a gubernatorial run in his native <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas</a>, told attendees at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/san-francisco" target="_blank" rel="noopener">San Francisco</a>’s Dreamforce conference this week that he would “be arrogant not to” consider a White House run in the future. McConaughey, who has never publicly identified with either major party, did not say what his time frame would be but did not rule out 2024, <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/matthew-mcconaughey-talks-presidential-run-17456929.php?IPID=SFGate-HP-CP-Spotlight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to SFGate.com</a>.
&#8220;Yeah, I&#8217;ll consider it in the future, I&#8217;d be arrogant not to, absolutely I would consider it,&#8221; said McConaughey, who won an Oscar for his role in “Dallas Buyer’s Club.” &#8220;If I got into any form of politics I&#8217;d be remiss not to also go in as an artist and a storyteller; help put a narrative together. You&#8217;re the CEO of a state and a nation, a lot of compartmentalization and choices to be made. They scare me but I&#8217;m not afraid of &#8217;em.&#8221;

The annual conference is hosted by tech firm Salesforce and known for attracting celebrity speakers who address Silicon Valley liberals. McConaughey made his remarks in a discussion with Salesforce co-CEO Marc Benioff which covered the school shooting in his hometown of Uvalde and gun control as well as his general political beliefs.
But he said if he were to mount a presidential bid, it would be somewhat reluctantly.
&#8220;If that happened to me I would be pulled into it,” McConaughey, 52, said. “If I&#8217;m living right, which I&#8217;m trying to, we get pulled into things &#8230; it&#8217;s inevitable. I didn&#8217;t choose it, it chose me.&#8221;
McConaughey noted the extreme political polarization gripping the nation, but said there is room for someone who can reach out to reasonable folks on both sides.
&#8220;There&#8217;s definitely a greater divide now than there has been,&#8221; the “Failure to Launch” actor said. &#8220;One thing is we have to admit that part of that divide is the Kool-Aid we&#8217;re being sold. The divide is not as thick as we&#8217;re being sold; most of us are much more near the middle than we&#8217;re being told.&#8221;
McConaughey, who called for more gun control measures in the wake of the May 24 school shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead, said both parties have good points – and big gaps – in their Second Amendment views.
&#8220;[To] the Left, this is about regulation, this is about keeping the weapon out of the bad guy&#8217;s hand, [to] the Right, this is about mental health, but each one of them would put a period after their argument,” he said. “You&#8217;re right, just put a comma after your argument. Both of your arguments are much closer to the solution than each of them independently.&#8221;
Despite sounding like a liberal on some issues, McConaughey, his wife Camila, and their three children left Malibu for Texas because the Lone Star State’s values match theirs, Camila said in an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matthew-mcconaugheys-wife-opens-up-on-their-decision-to-leave-malibu-for-a-life-that-embodies-their-belief-system-in-texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">April interview with Fox News</a>.
“It’s been great,” the Brazilian model and designer said. “It really embodies our belief system, especially the ones I grew up with, like going to church every Sunday, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no, sir.&#8217;”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/matthew-mcconaughey">Matthew McConaughey</a> recently addressed the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sexual-abuse">sexual assault</a> he experienced as a teenager, saying he doesn’t plan to let it “beat” him.
The 52-year-old Hollywood <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">A-lister</a> described being abused as part of his memoir “Greenlights,” which was released in October 2021. In the book, he described how he was sexually abused at both 15 and 18 years of age. McConaughey most recently described how a conversation he had with his father about consent never factored into what eventually happened with him.
“Well, I had been taught, been guided by my parents about respect for a woman, respect for the relationship, respect for sexual intimacy, respect for space,” he said during an interview with Amanda de Cadenet on “The Conversation: About the Men” podcast.
“My dad had always had this thing when he taught us the birds and the bees, he sat me down talking the birds and the bees. ‘You&#8217;re getting that age you kiss?’ and I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ And he goes, ‘Well, it&#8217;s gonna go further than that one day. It&#8217;s probably gonna go to where you&#8217;re gonna get intimate and there&#8217;s gonna be the breast, and there&#8217;s gonna be below the belt.’ I&#8217;m paraphrasing, and he goes, ‘It&#8217;s gonna happen to you as well.&#8217;”
“And so he goes, and he&#8217;s talking to me, he says, ‘Son, as a male in the situation,’ speaking to me about a heterosexual relationship, ‘If you ever feel the girl, the female, hesitate, stop,’” McConaughey continued, per <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11230339/Matthew-McConaughey-refuses-let-blackmailed-sex-teenager-beat-him.html">The Daily Mail</a>.
“He even said this, he goes, ‘You may even feel them hesitate, and then after you stop, they may go, oh, no, no, come on. Don&#8217;t. Wait til next time.’ And he was right, I got in certain senses where it was like, ‘No, no, no. OK, I&#8217;m out.’ And saying, ‘OK, cool. I&#8217;m out.’”
He went on to describe just how he had put that advice into practice.
“After that, I got to have some healthy sexual relations and have girls that I liked and liked me, and we slowly got intimate and it was beautiful and clumsy, and all those things, but it wasn&#8217;t ugly like that was,” he said.
McConaughey said he “didn’t connect” the conversation with a sexual assault that occurred a few years later when he was 18 and “knocked unconscious” by a man “in the back of a van.”
The “Dallas Buyers Club” star insisted he didn’t want the experience to ruin his life.
“I&#8217;m not gonna be afraid of relationships because my first experience was blackmail. Uh uh. That&#8217;s an aberration. No, no. That&#8217;s not the way it is,” has said during the podcast interview.
“And if I go on &#8211; and I&#8217;m not gonna let it beat me. I&#8217;m going, &#8216;I&#8217;m not gonna let that beat my sense of trust in people and say, &#8216;No, I can have a healthy relationship.&#8217; Non-negotiable. No.&#8221;
Just after the book came out, McConaughey said he didn’t feel like the victim from his experiences.
“I write also in the book I&#8217;ve never felt like a victim,” he said on the Tamron Hall Show. “Yes, was I victimized in those two situations? Sure. But that doesn&#8217;t mean that I&#8217;ve carried on through my life the feeling of ‘Oh I was victimized’ or ‘Oh I was a victim’ or that those two unfortunate events have turned me into the man that I am or are even an excuse.”
“Those two events happened to me at 15 and 18. If they would&#8217;ve happened to me younger, maybe I would&#8217;ve been more confused,” the actor said. “But when they happened to me, it was very clear to me, that they were wrong, that they were not ideal, that they were not how it&#8217;s supposed to be.”

It’s not too late, Will Smith.
Yes, Smith’s career hit a brick wall when he slapped Chris Rock in front of a global audience on Oscar night.
Smith has been in virtual hiding ever since, and for good reason. America is a forgiving nation, though, especially when it comes to our brightest stars.
They can fall, and fall hard, and chances are we’ll be there to pick them up again. That’s assuming they show genuine contrition or have the talent to back up their second acts.
The following stars came roaring back against sizable odds. Some, though, may require a secondary comeback tale.
<h3>Matthew McConaughey</h3>
The man known for his slacker, “alright, alright alright” catch phrase found his career faltering in his late 30s. The star reduced his talents by laboring in one milquetoast rom-com after another.
“Fool’s Gold.” “Failure to Launch.” “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.” And, most regrettably, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”
He became known for losing his shirt and gaining the ladies by the third act, but said act was growing stale.
Movies like 2011’s “Killer Joe” and the following year’s “Mud” showcased a darker side of the smilin’ Texan, a prelude to his breakout performance in “Dallas Buyers Club.” McConaughey committed to the role, shedding serious weight to play a dying man battling Big Pharma and the F.D.A.
He earned a Best Actor Oscar for his troubles, and no one looked at him the same way again. He may still lose his shirt now and then, but audiences take McConaughey very seriously no matter the role.
<h3>Shia LaBeouf</h3>
Child stars often go astray. It’s a sad state of affairs, but we’ve seen it happen too many times to ignore. For a while, it seemed as if LaBeouf, now 36, would be another case in point.
The young star found steady gigs with Disney’s “Even Stevens” and features like “Holes” and “Constantine.”
He kept on working, landing the lead in the “Transformers” mega franchise as a sign of Hollywood’s trust in his talents. His innate curiosity led him to more challenging work, witness performances in “Bobby” and “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”
Even when he flamed out as Indiana Jones’ successor in the franchise’s fourth film his future seemed bright. And then LaBeouf got hit with disturbing allegations from a former lover, actress and singer FKA Twigs in 2021. She alleged <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/shia-labeouf-abuse-allegations-apology-1235352434/">serial cruelty from the actor</a>, who has spoken openly about his hardscrabble upbringing.
Hollywood’s MeToo movement appeared ready to swallow him whole. Except acclaimed filmmaker Abel Ferrara cast him in “Padre Pio,” and LaBeouf found faith along the way. He also owned up to his personal mistakes, vowing to become a better person in the process.
Now, he’s set to co-star in Francis Ford Coppola’s comeback film, “Megalopolis,” and there’s little outrage heading the star’s way over it.
<h3>Michael Keaton</h3>
Two words. “I’m Batman.” Suddenly, Keaton went from Mr. Mom to atop the A-list in 1989. Except he slowly descended from that rarified perch. 
Yes, the obligatory “Batman Returns” sequel made money, but Keaton’s subsequent movie choices left audiences cold. “Jack Frost.” “Speechless.” “Multiplicity.” “First Daughter.”
Keaton didn’t go away, exactly, but he hardly commanded our attention or figured into the annual awards season race.
The 2014 drama “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance”) ended the Pittsburgh native’s slump. He earned an Academy Award nomination to go along with the film’s Best Picture trophy.
His next meaty role came via “Spotlight,” which also walked away with a Best Picture award on Oscar night 2015.
We knew Keaton had come full circle when he snagged a villainous role in the “Spider-Man” franchise as the Vulture. Now, he bounces from respectable work (“The Founder,” “Dopesick”) to more superheroics (the upcoming “Flash” as Batman, again).
<h3>Britney Spears</h3>
Oops, she did it again, replicating the pop princess formula and shooting straight to stardom. Spears had it all, or at least all pop music demanded – a music video-friendly visage, a knack for irresistible hooks and a voice chipper enough to bully past the competition.
She racked up industry victories even if her attempt at movie stardom fell flat in 2002 with “Crossroads.”
And then it all came crashing down. She melted down in public, fought with her family behind the scenes and eventually got put under a conservatorship, ripping her career out from under her.
And then, the “Free Britney” movement was born, and by November of 2021 a <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/11/12/1054860726/britney-spears-conservatorship-ended">judge rescinded her father’s conservatorship.</a>
Time away from the spotlight may have helped her mental state. In recent months she’s begun reclaiming her old life, and her fans were more than happy to renew their bond with her. 
She recently <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/09/06/britney-spears-elton-johns-hold-me-closer-on-billboard-top-10/">raced up the pop charts</a>, alongside the legendary Elton John, with “Hold Me Closer.” The duet gave her a hit for the <a href="https://variety.com/2022/music/news/britney-spears-top-10-elton-john-hold-me-closer-1235360241/">first time in nearly a decade</a>, but this comeback story is far from complete.
Spears’ mental health challenges are well known, and she released a cryptic message around the time of the single’s release saying <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/sep/13/britney-spears-never-perform-again-conservatorship-trauma">she may never perform again</a>.
<h3>M. Night Shyamalan</h3>
They called him “the next Spielberg,” and for a while the phrase made sense. Shyamalan’s 1999 smash “The Sixth Sense” took the culture by storm, and his follow-up films (“Unbreakable,” “Signs”) proved his singular voice mattered.
His 2004 hit “The Village” suggested his trick endings were growing stale, and his follow-up, “The Lady in the Water” proved disastrous. He even mocked famous film critics via <a href="https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/lady-in-the-water-2006">Bob Balaban’s irksome character</a>, showcasing a thin skin for the young auteur.
Matters got worse from there, with clunkers like “After Earth,” “The Happening” and “The Last Airbender” proving his creative tank was empty.
Or was it?
His 2016 return to form, “Split,” suggested Shyamalan had a rich second act awaiting him, and us. The film’s sneaky ties to “Unbreakable” caught everyone by surprise, and suddenly an “M. Night Shyamalan project” wasn’t snicker-worthy anymore.
Sadly, his third film in the “Unbreakable” saga, “Glass,” proved ordinary, and his most recent directorial effort, “Old,” proved great trailers can yield lousy movies.

Asked about gun control rhetoric from President Biden and celebrities like actor Matthew McConaughey, Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) declared, “Obviously I’m not giving up my AR-15. That’s mine, not happening.”
Crenshaw <a href="https://grabien.com/story.php?id=381623?utm_source=cliplist&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=cliplist20220613&amp;utm_content=story381623">appeared</a> with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, who started by asking him about President Biden’s appearance on late night TV with Jimmy Kimmel, where he mocked the GOP vis-à-vis gun control. Kilmeade asked, “Did he help the debate with his speech after the shooting?”
“No. No,” Crenshaw answered. “I think they’re doing the same thing they always do after a mass shooting; they politicize it and they try to convince America that you can actually legislate away these extremely rare and anomalous events.”
“These are very evil events,” Crenshaw acknowledged. “I think they make us all cringe; I think they make us all very upset, and that’s understandable.”
“But then we have to take a step back and take the emotion and think what policies do we enact to prevent these things,” he asserted. “Are these preventable? Can you see these mass shooters ahead of time? What kind of contagion is infecting our young people and our old people that they seek to engage in these dramatic mass killings? Ever since Columbine happened these are really difficult questions, and you can’t politicize it or put emotion in front of reason.”
“Obviously I’m not giving up my AR-15,” Crenshaw said firmly. “That’s mine, not happening. I’m pretty clear on that. Look, raising the age to 21, if you are going to talk about that you just need to change what it is to be an adult in America. We need to see that conversation about all aspects of how young people act and mature. So I don’t think an arbitrary 21 versus 18 is really gonna change a whole lot of things when it comes to gun violence.”
He referred to the Senate considering the expansion of  background checks for younger people: “That makes a lot of sense. If you’re 18 and you have a terrible juvenile history but we can’t look at it in a background check? We should be able to look at that; that should be part of the analysis on your background check.”
“When it comes to red flag laws, despite what all the trolls on the internet say, I’m really not for red flag laws,” he continued. “There’s good arguments and bad arguments about this, and there’s a lot of misconceptions on both sides of this argument but fundamentally with a red flag law you’re trying to enforce a law before it’s been broken, and that’s a really difficult thing to do. If you take somebody’s word for it and then you confiscate someone’s property and their right to self-defense as a result, this is a really difficult thing to enforce by any practical measure, and I don’t think it will have the outcome either that a lot of Democrats hope that it will.”

A CNN panel discussion went off the rails Tuesday evening when panelists Kasie Hunt and Ana Navarro teamed up to shout down Jonah Goldberg when he attempted to break down the statistical data surrounding school shootings.
The panel, moderated by host Laura Coates, responded to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-matthew-mcconaughey-gives-away-the-political-lefts-game-on-gun-control/">comments</a> made by actor Matthew McConaughey during a special Tuesday press briefing about the recent school shooting in his home town of Uvalde, Texas. McConaughey <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/conservatives-slam-gun-control-activist-matthew-mcconaughey-thats-gonna-be-a-no-from-me-dawg/">argued for a number of restrictions</a> — including more stringent background checks and raising the minimum age to own a rifle — but focused much of his time on encouraging people on both sides to work together, saying that the American people were not really as divided as politicians and media wanted them to believe they were.
Goldberg responded first, noting that he had agreed with much of what McConaughey had said but he was wary of the insistence that everyone&#8217;s kids were in danger.

&#8220;I share the moral outrage entirely with everybody on this panel about how horrific and just morally repugnant these slaughters are,&#8221; he began, but then he argued that some perspective was necessary. &#8220;If we’re going to start telling people that they should be scared that this is going to happen to them, we should at least put this in perspective.&#8221;
Pointing out the data, he said that there were over 54 million school-aged children in the United States — and in the last 29 years, 170 had been killed in school shootings.
Hunt and Navarro began to push back, but Goldberg continued, &#8220;The moral outrage is entirely valid and justified… You are absolutely right to be outraged about the crime. But if we’re going to tell people they should be terrified about their kids being dropped off at school, we should remind them their kids are more in danger on the drive to school, statistically, than they are at the school.&#8221;
&#8220;A child’s life cannot be a statistic,&#8221; Navarro objected.
&#8220;That’s moral bullying. I’m making a basic point to say that you shouldn’t tell people that they should be terrified,&#8221; Goldberg insisted.
&#8220;If it were your child, it would not be a statistic. It would be a tragedy that you would never ever recover from,&#8221; Navarro continued.
Goldberg said again, &#8220;That’s moral bullying!&#8221;
&#8220;Why is it moral bullying?&#8221; Navarro asked.
&#8220;You’re making it sound as if I don’t have compassion for these people, of course I do! I&#8217;m saying you shouldn’t tell the audience that this is the thing that they should be so terrified with, paralyzed with fear, about their own kids when their kids are more likely to die from a lot of other things,&#8221; Goldberg explained.
The argument continued as Navarro pointed to the fact that many car accidents had led to car seat, speed, and seat belt laws, but Goldberg argued that his point remained the same.

Navarro pushed back, arguing that it was past time for action because no one had done anything after the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.
&#8220;It’s a national shame. Paralyzed with fear and paralyzed with acceptance and resignation is what we have been for the last ten years. And it’s enough of that. No more paralysis. Get your a**es in gear and call your senator,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;That’s fine. I’m doing analysis. I am not doing activism,&#8221; Goldberg replied.

Actor Matthew McConaughey told Fox News during an interview on Tuesday night that Democrats want &#8220;the whole loaf&#8221; when it comes to restricting the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens, but that they are willing to just &#8220;take a slice&#8221; this time.
McConaughey made the remarks during an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier after he spoke at the White House press briefing earlier in the day.
During the interview, McConaughey, who has previously mulled running to become the governor of Texas, responded to a question about whether he had political ambitions by saying, &#8220;I am not running for political office.&#8221;
McConaughey claimed that this time would be different in terms of getting something done politically to prevent the next tragedy, even though Second Amendment experts like Dana Loesch <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/conservatives-slam-gun-control-activist-matthew-mcconaughey-thats-gonna-be-a-no-from-me-dawg">noted</a> that he was just “repeating every studied and proven non-solution the gun control lobby has ever proposed but he’s wrapping it in a veneer of friendly Texas drawl.”
&#8220;But the consensus word that I&#8217;m hearing and phrase is that this time is different, that there is some more momentum, that, on the Right, there are some things that they&#8217;re willing not staunchly say no to and consider, that on the Left, they&#8217;re willing to say, you know what, we may want the whole loaf, but we will take a slice of bread,&#8221; McConaughey said. &#8220;So, I&#8217;m told that this is a novel thing happening right now, and this is a novel and special time happening right now, where, actually, something may change, instead of just talking about it, and nothing changes again for another 30 years.&#8221;

Conservatives slammed left-of-center gun control activist Matthew McConaughey following his performance at the White House Tuesday afternoon in which he tried to persuade the American people to give into the gun control measures that Democrats are trying to pass.
The remarks from McConaughey comes after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, which is McConaughey&#8217;s home town, where an 18-year-old Hispanic male murdered 19 children at Robb Elementary School. The attacker was able to obtain his weapons despite a history of violence toward people and animals.
&#8220;We need background checks,&#8221; McConaughey said, even though the Uvalde attacker passed a background check, &#8220;we need to raise the minimum age to purchase an AR-15 rifle to 21, we need a waiting period for those rifles, we need red flag laws and consequences for those who abuse them.&#8221;
McConaughey has a history of calling for extreme gun control measures, including supporting gun bans.
Sounding like Democrat <a href="https://twitter.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1252282609981370372">Beto O’Rourke</a>, McConaughey <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matthew-mcconaughey-mulls-tx-governor-run-previously-suggested-people-take-one-for-the-team-give-up-some-gun-rights">said</a> at a 2018 rally for the anti-gun March For Our Lives group in Austin, Texas, that law-abiding gun owners needed to “take one for the team” and give up some of their gun rights, including the ability to own semi-automatic long guns and magazines that have the ability to carry certain amounts of ammunition.
“One, let’s ban the assault weapons for civilians. This is a no-brainer,” he said. “And to my friends out there, that are responsible owners of these assault weapons that they use for recreation, please let’s take one for the team and set it down.”

Actor Matthew McConaughey has traveled to Washington, D.C. this week to push lawmakers toward gun reforms following a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas — McConaughey&#8217;s hometown.
The actor met with Senate Judiciary chairman Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, on Monday, then met with Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, who is the top Republican on the panel, on Tuesday.

&#8220;And&#8230; we&#8217;ve landed. In the last ten months, we&#8217;ve had two late-term pregnancy losses, each of which put [Kimberly] in the hospital, we spent Christmas break thinking she had a tumor (the doctor was wrong, thank god), I was prematurely booted off a reality dancing show I was favored to win in front of the whole world, and my mom died,&#8221; the &#8220;Dawson Creek&#8221; star wrote on his <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CGSp4zrDJ9p/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=943f5725-cd32-4299-bb6a-420219c6feca">Instagram</a> at the time.
&#8220;And a shut-down,&#8221; he added. &#8220;All of that led to some drastic changes in our lives, and dreams, and priorities&#8230; and landed us here. Overflowing with profound gratitude today.”
&#8220;We&#8217;re so happy right now,&#8221; Van Der Beek also shared with the Parents outlet. &#8220;It&#8217;s been really good for all of us.&#8221;

Actor Matthew McConaughey made a &#8220;call to action&#8221; on Wednesday, following a gruesome elementary school shooting in his hometown of Uvalde, Texas, telling Americans &#8220;it&#8217;s time&#8221; to &#8220;re-evaluate, and renegotiate our wants from our needs.&#8221;
An 18-year-old male, who The Daily Wire is not naming in keeping with a policy of depriving mass shooters of undeserved notoriety, allegedly shot up the Robb Elementary School on Tuesday, killing at least 21, including 19 children and two adults, the Texas Department of Public Safety <a href="https://abc7.com/uvalde-texas-robb-elementary-school-active-shooter-district-lockdown/11892411/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://abc7.com/uvalde-texas-robb-elementary-school-active-shooter-district-lockdown/11892411/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1653569893790000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3h2sHkcnJZFFMhyMHfdbAi">confirmed</a>.
&#8220;The true call to action now is for every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror, and ask ourselves, &#8216;What is it that we truly value? How do we repair the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state, and neighborhood tomorrow?'&#8221; McConaughey said in a statement posted to Twitter. &#8220;We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo.&#8221;
&#8220;As Americans, Texans, mothers and fathers, it&#8217;s time we re-evaluate, and renegotiate our wants from our needs,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;We have to rearrange our values and find a common ground above this devastating American reality that has tragically become our children&#8217;s issue.&#8221;
Notably, McConaughey was in the past rumored to challenge Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, but announced in 2021 that he would not be making the political run.
McConaughey noted that his hometown is Uvalde, where the shooting took place. &#8220;We have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,&#8221; he said.
“This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better,&#8221; the &#8220;Time to Kill&#8221; actor wrote. &#8220;We must do better. Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured.”
&#8220;And to those who dropped off their loved ones today not knowing it was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we will keep them coming,&#8221; McConaughey closed the statement.

“One, let’s ban the assault weapons for civilians,&#8221; the Texan said. &#8220;This is a no-brainer.&#8221;
&#8220;And to my friends out there that are responsible owners of these recreational assault weapons that they use for recreation, please let’s just take one for the team here and set it down,&#8221; he added. &#8220;That issue saves lives.&#8221;
