A number of Republicans fired back on Tuesday after Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) claimed that he could &#8220;kick most of their ass.&#8221;
Walz made the assertions during a conversation with fellow Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) for his new podcast after complaining about the fact that his own masculinity had been called into question during his bid for the vice presidency alongside running mate and former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024.
Walz said that it was a mistake for Democrats to let Republicans define issues like masculinity before claiming that he could &#8220;kick most of their ass&#8221; and suggesting that they only attacked him because he &#8220;scared them a little bit&#8221; — but his critics made it clear in their responses that was not the case.
Knox County, Tennessee, Mayor Glenn Jacobs — perhaps better known by his WWE name Kane — posted several responses to Walz&#8217;s comments.

Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) complained about the fact that critics had cast doubt on his &#8220;masculinity,&#8221; particularly during the 2024 presidential election while he&#8217;d been vying for the vice presidency alongside running mate, former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Walz turned to Newsom, who said, &#8220;This notion of masculinity is deeply part of it. I mean, I think it goes — you can look at the reasons why we&#8217;ve had this sort of dialectic over the Me Too movement, we&#8217;ve had this dialectic even prior to the Me Too movement and this notion of —&#8221;
&#8220;How do you fight it?&#8221; Walz interrupted. When Newsom attempted to answer, the Minnesota governor interrupted again, claiming, &#8220;I think I could kick most of their a**! I do think that &#8230; I know I can outrun them. I don&#8217;t know if we&#8217;re going to fall into that place where we, okay, we challenge you to, you know, a WWE fight here, type of thing.&#8221;
The conversation about masculinity — and &#8220;toxicity in masculinity&#8221; — continued with Newsom arguing that too many people had conflated the two ideas: &#8220;We&#8217;re going to have to work on that a little bit.&#8221;

Walz followed by claiming that he believed conservatives were actually intimidated by him, adding, &#8220;I think some of us scare them. I think I scare them a little bit, it&#8217;s why they spend so much time on this. No, I&#8217;m serious, because I can fix a truck. They know I&#8217;m not bull-s****ing on this. But I&#8217;m not putting this in people&#8217;s grill. I don&#8217;t know if — my identity is not hunting. My identity is not football coaching. Vice President JD Vance delivered a strong message to young people — particularly young men — during his remarks on Thursday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Pointing ahead to the 2026 midterms, Vance noted that unless Republicans keep winning, the ability to implement Trump&#8217;s agenda could be very short-lived.
He then turned to the young men in the audience, offering another message to them specifically: &#8220;You ask me — my message to young men is — I think that our culture sends a message to young men that you should suppress every masculine urge. You should try to cast aside your family, you should try to suppress what makes you a young man in the first place. And I think that my message to young men is don&#8217;t allow this broken culture to send you a message that you&#8217;re a bad person because you&#8217;re a man, because you like to tell a joke, because you like to have a beer with your friends, or because you&#8217;re competitive.&#8221;
&#8220;The cultural message, and I think the president&#8217;s and mine is the exact opposite, but our cultural message — I think that it wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same, and act the same,&#8221; Vance continued. &#8220;We actually think God made male and female for a purpose, and we want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women, and we&#8217;re going to help with our public policy to make it possible to do that.&#8221;

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the Right must stop cheering on bad people who don’t care about their principles.
Today’s case: Andrew Tate.
Now, let me say at the outset, I’m not upset at all with anyone interviewing Tate. Go for it. Have at it. There are lots of great questions to ask him. But that’s not what’s happening here. What’s happening is that people are dishonestly conflating “interviewing” Tate with cheering on Tate — applauding him, talking about how brave and wonderful he is while he rips off thousands of people with his scam Hustlers University and preaches the virtue of treating women in a way you would never allow anyone to treat your wife or daughter.
No one is saying you can’t have Tate on your show. It’s a free country. What I’m saying is that if you claim you are a conservative and have someone truly disgusting on your show, and you proceed to tout them, praise them, and nod along to everything they say, you’re doing more than “platforming” — you are becoming a propagandist for that person. A person who purports to stand for Biblical values, American values, and traditional values has a moral obligation to ask Tate hard questions about his actions, beliefs, and past — not help him falsely rewrite his legal record or ignore all he has actually said while nodding enthusiastically.

Tate isn’t a conservative politician trying to push conservative policies, with part of the job being to separate out his agenda from his personal behavior. He’s an online troll who revels in precisely the evils conservatives hate. It’s his entire, self-stated persona. If you don’t ask about that, you’re not doing your job.
Now, I get the appeal of Andrew Tate. For decades, the hatred of traditional masculinity has been so strong, so thoroughgoing throughout the media and politics, that people have run away from traditional masculinity altogether. Young men were basically told they were useless, if not outright toxic. That left a vacuum. And Tate filled that vacuum with masculinity, but its ugliest iteration — not a responsible masculinity that protects women, children, and civilization, but the sort of masculinity that tears everything good down.
Tate’s basically playing a WWE heel, and he knows it. He says he wants to be the most hated man on Earth, and he professes to make money off of that — and that’s what he’s telling the truth about.
But here’s the thing: Andrew Tate is a crap sandwich. He presents differently to different audiences: He’ll present as a sort of low-rent anti-feminist talking head for people on the Right, bashing Left-wing wokeism; he’ll present as an anti-Semitic radical who’s willing to violate any taboo for the fringes; and he’ll pretend to be an upstanding person who cares about family values when he’s sitting down with someone conservative.
But what he really is, in the end, is a con artist.
And an evil con artist at that.

A college professor claims that some of the hate against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">Barney the Dinosaur</a> is due to men rebelling against an alternate version of masculinity and being <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/homophobia">homophobic</a>.
There have been multiple articles and documentaries on the topic of the public backlash against the popular <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">cartoon</a> from the 1990s. These latest statements were made on a new podcast episode in the series “Generation Barney,” which takes a look at the history of the show and its reception.
&#8220;Understanding particularly why adult men didn&#8217;t like Barney reveals a lot about gender and power in our current society. There were women who didn&#8217;t like Barney, but the high-profile hate was really coming from men,&#8221; podcast host Sabrina Herrera says in the <a href="https://www.ctpublic.org/podcast/generation-barney/2024-11-19/love-2-hate">episode</a> titled, “Love 2 Hate.”
&#8220;He offered up a different model for masculinity, even as a purple dinosaur and not a human. This message about love, about nurturing, about looking after others, that these are emotions and also sort of social practices and responsibilities that in our culture are constructed and understood to be sort of feminine and feminizing,&#8221; Dr. Emily Contois, a media studies teacher at the University of Tulsa, replied.

&#8220;Barney could be understood as resisting that, pushing back against that, offering a different model of sexuality and gender and size all coming together. And so for some of these men who reacted very poorly to him, that could be a piece of their reaction,&#8221; the professor continued.
Dr. Contois added, “A part of that white masculine sort of set of authorities is also this incredible resistance to homosexuality.&#8221;
The “Barney &amp; Friends” series was based on a friendly purple and green Tyrannosaurus rex character and a cast of children who went on adventures, enjoying songs, dances, and games that made learning fun. The show debuted in 1992 and was extremely popular with young children of that generation.
Bob West, the original voice actor for Barney, recalled getting death threats for playing the character. &#8220;There were certain things, certain messages that people would send that were pretty threatening,&#8221; he said during last week’s episode of the same podcast. 
&#8220;If you get a death threat from a middle school child who sends you an email, then it doesn&#8217;t make me feel bad for me. College Prof Says 'Hate' For Barney The Dinosaur Came From 'Resistance To Homosexuality'

A decade ago if you asked a man the manliest thing he could smell like, no doubt he would say gunpowder and whiskey with a hint of cigar. But a close second would be Axe deodorant, a popular brand known for marketing to men with hilariously accurate ad campaigns. 
These over-the-top ads were filled with rugged men, gorgeous women, and the underlying message that smelling good was a component of true masculinity. However, like most other things in life, Axe has since been neutered and reborn with weaker, lamer messaging in service of the woke overlords who rule society. 
Take this line from Axe’s website for example. “What do we mean by awesome? Well, we create relevant and unexpected fragrances that rewrite the rules of traditional masculine scents.” 
This type of talk isn’t anything new from Axe. In 2017, the brand <a href="https://mashable.com/article/axe-ad-toxic-masculinity?test_uuid=01iI2GpryXngy77uIpA3Y4B&amp;test_variant=b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> the &#8220;Is It OK for Guys?&#8221; promo as part of Axe&#8217;s &#8220;Find Your Magic&#8221; campaign. The overall messaging encouraged men to forgo macho stereotypes and take on a more enlightened version of masculinity instead.

&#8220;What we wanted to do is show &#8230; that there is this habit of guys going online in the privacy of their own home asking all these questions,&#8221; Rik Strubel, then-global vice president for Axe, said of the campaign. Their mission was to “redefine what it means to be a man.”
Stubel <a href="https://www.dailydot.com/irl/axe-toxic-masculinity/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in another statement, “As a global lifestyle brand, we see it as our responsibility to use our platform and reach to help drive positive change and champion good,” Strubel said. “In fact, consumers today actually demand that, and as society changes, we’re committed to leading a celebration of a more modern and inclusive view of masculinity. We realize this means tackling very tough issues, including toxic masculinity.
“By championing individuality, self-acceptance, and self-expression,” he continued, “we want to encourage guys to be what they want, dress how they want, love who they want and live more freely … If we can shift this paradigm, we can help break the cycle of toxic masculinity and create a healthier, more equal world for both men and women.”
Apparently, Axe thinks guys want a deodorant that overhauls traditional masculinity. That just stinks. 
This should come as no surprise since Axe falls under the Unilever umbrella, the leftist company that sells you Dove — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wokest-wash-around-heres-how-dove-has-pushed-woke-nonsense" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the wokest wash around</a>. Former CEO Alan Jope said in 2021, “The two biggest threats that the world currently faces are climate change and social inequality. The past year has undoubtedly widened the social divide, and decisive and collective action is needed to build a society that helps to improve livelihoods, embraces diversity, nurtures talent, and offers opportunities for everyone.”

This promo specifically targeted Gen Z and their “anything goes” mentality in an effort to “resonate with this generation of men who are notoriously open-minded when it comes to attraction,” according to Axe’s press release.
But what about men who just want to smell manly and attract beautiful women? What about men who don’t want their deodorant brand to redefine masculinity? 
For them, the answer is clear: it’s Jeremy’s all the way.

American journalists and other human folderol are claiming that Democrat men are “redefining masculinity.” And no, I’m not making that quote up. Jen Psaki psaid pso on her psucky pshow on MPSNBC. And there have been similar headlines in USA Today and other trusted news outlets or at least outlets trusted by the same sort of people who think, “Okay, this time I’m sure I know which card is the queen. I’ll bet another twenty dollars.”
So let’s take a look at the Democrat men these journalists are talking about.
One example is Doug Emhoff, who’ll be first gentleman if Kamala Harris wins the election. Which definitely does redefine masculinity if by that you mean eliminates it completely. I mean, holy crap, it’s bad enough to be married to Kamala Harris but now you have to go to parties and people say &#8220;What do you do?&#8221; and you’re like, &#8220;I’m the first gentleman,&#8221; and they sort of simper and say &#8220;Oh, how wonderful, you’re redefining masculinity,&#8221; but what they’re really thinking is: this poor guy must have a package the size of a mustard seed. So now you’re lying awake at night in the Lincoln bedroom or wherever, staring at the ceiling and wondering how you got to a place where technically you’re still a man I guess, but not only are you the king cuck of the universe, but you also have to listen to that laugh Kamala has until you start thinking, “Hey, she’s guarded by the same Secret Service that guarded Donald Trump, so basically she&#8217;s got no protection. I could still get out of this.”
Okay, I kind of went off on a tangent there and I’m not sure what point I was trying to make. But let’s remember that Mr. Doug Redefining Masculinity actually cheated on his last wife with the nanny until she got pregnant and had an abortion, which sounds to me like the same old Democrat definition of masculinity as always. And now he’s also been accused of slapping his former girlfriend after she flirted with another man at a party.

That raises some interesting questions, right? For instance, you might ask: “Well, is it always wrong to smack your girlfriend?” And yes, of course it is! And you might ask, “But what if she’s, like, really, really annoying — like Kamala Harris level annoying with that laugh and everything?” And I would say: Still, you don’t just slap her. It’s not like she’s your wife where the occasional swat on the backside is probably cheaper than a divorce. She’s your girlfriend, you can dump her if she’s that much trouble. And you might say, “Well, okay, what if she’s a journalist, and not just any journalist, but like one of those two dames who moderated the Vice Presidential debate and sat there all night with those prissy little smiles on their faces while skewing all the questions in a leftist direction and then cutting off JD Vance’s microphone when he tried to correct their so-called fact check which was against the rules in the first place?”
And okay, look, there are always gray areas. But if you’re dating a girl who’s a journalist, you might want to take a good look in the mirror before you just get handsy with her. The problem could be you, my friend.
Anyway, the question is: are Democrat men really redefining masculinity or are they just a bunch of sleaze-balls? Because not only do you have Doug Emhoff banging the nanny then playing ping-pong-face with a flirty girlfriend. But you’ve also got Tim Walz and, oh my God, right? Talk about a guy who’s redefining masculinity to the point where it could become a capital offense. I mean, is there something creepy about that dude or what? I don’t want to go too far here. If it turned out Walz had, like, an oubliette in his basement with his next victim already down there praying to God Clarice Starling can find her before it’s too late, I would be surprised. But only maybe thirty percent surprised. Maybe twenty. If that.
So in conclusion, Democrat men are redefining masculinity. Yeah, either that or Democrat women are cucking them nutless to keep from getting smacked in the kisser.

Daily Wire podcast host Michael Knowles sat down with social media influencer Justin Waller to discuss life while enjoying high-quality cigars. Over the course of their conversation, they discussed the issue of how men can reclaim their place in society and the phenomenon of women initiating divorce more often than men.
Waller said one way husbands can avoid being left by their wives is to make themselves men of substance. After discussing the crisis of a lack of male role models, the influencer talked about how to overcome this problem.
He offered this advice to the men out there, “Become a man that&#8217;s so hard to replace that she never wants to be the hero. Which is the beautiful thing about love, by the way. I love nothing more than winning. And then calling her and being like, ‘Hey, babe.’”

While society focuses on issues like “toxic masculinity,” men are continually falling behind by every single metric, including academically, socially, and professionally. The number of men enrolling in college has dropped. And it’s no secret that a lack of strong male role models has contributed heavily to societal decline. 
The one place men are overrepresented is not a good one. In 2021, men <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/traditional-masculinity-is-the-solution-to-the-male-loneliness-epidemic-not-the-cause">accounted for</a> roughly 80% of suicides.
Waller told Knowles that he believes family doesn’t always mean being related by blood. 
“[The] thing about love, and I have plenty of that in my life, so I have really deep understanding of what it&#8217;s supposed to be like. And that has nothing to do with my childhood. You build your family in life, you know, and I don&#8217;t particularly believe that family is the blood that was given to you. I think it&#8217;s the family that you build.”
The influencer said of his wife, “We become one flesh. And now we get to have kids who are of the same blood [as] both of us.” 
Waller added, “Sometimes people say, my friends, they&#8217;re really my family, and I&#8217;ve got very close friends.”
The conversation moved to the general negative attitudes toward traditional masculinity in our culture. “A woman is never going to stay attracted to you if she feels like she&#8217;s the dominant force in the relationship anyway,” Waller told Knowles.
He also said it’s not possible to have “society without religion.”
“The nuclear family was a real thing, and I truly believe the only reason we really lost it is because when we went off the gold standard and started inflating money, we went from a man that could go to work 40 hours a week, take care of his family, take care of the people that he loves, and be the head of the household to this situation where they started to become peers.”
“And when you lose respect, you lose love. And that&#8217;s when the family broke,” Waller said.

Spotify superstar <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-rogan">Joe Rogan</a> is a man’s man in the classic sense of the phrase.
The comedian loves hunting, eating red meat, and combat sports. He’s been part of the UFC revolution for more than 20 years, providing color commentary for some of the sport’s biggest matches.
He looks as wide as he is tall, and it’s all muscle, not fat. So why does he attract so many female listeners?

A <a href="https://business.yougov.com/content/47483-whos-listening-to-the-joe-rogan-experience-men-mostly" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2023 YouGov poll</a> found that Rogan’s podcast fan base leans younger and male.
No surprise there given the show’s content, Rogan’s personal interests, and the crush of male guests. He also curses like the proverbial sailor sans apology.
Yet <a href="https://variety.com/2024/digital/news/joe-rogan-renews-spotify-deal-not-exclusive-1235895424/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety’s announcement</a> of Rogan’s Spotify contract extension included this nugget:
<blockquote>Per Edison Research’s Q3 2023 survey of most listened-to podcasts, “The Joe Rogan Experience” ranked No. 1 for the period. In addition, “JRE” was the No. 2 most listened-to podcast for women 13 and older in the U.S., according to Edison.</blockquote>
Number two. And it’s not for lack of female-centric podcasts or alternatives across the pop culture landscape. And that includes true crime podcasts, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/13/why-are-women-falling-asleep-to-true-crime-podcasts-and-tv-shows.html#:~:text=%22My%20research%20shows%20that%20women,what%20to%20do%20if%20kidnapped." target="_blank" rel="noopener">audio catnip for many women</a>.
Turns out women love Rogan, too. But why?

Rogan is unapologetically male at a time when pop culture suggests that’s off limits. So-called “toxic masculinity” must be called out and avoided at all costs.
That message got through to Rogan.
“It’s become a disparaged term, to be a man,” <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoE_VJ0UopM" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rogan said in an undated clip</a> from his podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
“We are now around soft men and hard times. We’re in a time of ‘<a href="https://www.thedailystar.net/opinion/views/news/peterson-rogan-tate-the-cult-toxic-masculinity-3129491" target="_blank" rel="noopener">toxic masculinity’</a> where you can be toxically male,” he said <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5Za3RPE9uc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in another talk</a> on the subject. “And if you’re suppressing masculinity, you’re going to bring on hard times.”
He dug deeper into the phrase last year with <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/podcasts/joe-rogan-goes-after-critics-who-believe-toxic-masculinity-is-an-indictment-of-all-men-thats-crazy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“The Punisher” star Jon Bernthal</a>.
<blockquote>There’s no term toxic femininity, right? But there’s toxic human beings, and some of them happen to be male and some of them happen to be female … but it’s not an indictment on male, you know, the male gender of the species. That’s crazy.</blockquote>
Rogan’s unabashedly male persona connects with his female flock.
It’s not unlike how women swoon over the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce courtship. The couple represents an old-school romance, the prettiest girl at the prom and the gridiron hero scoring touchdowns for his sweetie.
Podcaster Karol Markowicz noticed a recent viral moment when Kelce moved past a security guard to open a car door for his squeeze during a Big Apple date. The video swiftly got shared far and wide, with Markowicz noting how women swooned over his old-fashioned manners.
They’re playing out their gender roles to a T, sans apology. And so, too, is Rogan. Women reacted to Kelce’s Alpha Male move, much like they long for Rogan’s podcast brand.

When Cancel Culture came calling Rogan stood his ground. He apologized for using the N-word in the past, although never against a person of color in a derogatory way and carried on his show and career. The press piled on, too, shaping everything Rogan did or said as “controversial” or “problematic.” 
He ignored the attacks, understanding his fans didn’t believe the false narratives against him. Plus, he kept on challenging authority, promoting his professional and personal interests as if the woke mob never knocked on his door.
That’s courage in 21st-century America, and Rogan’s alpha male instincts served him well. Thus the new Spotify deal, reportedly worth up to $250 million.
Men appreciate Rogan as much for his content as his attitude toward their gender. He preaches discipline, much like Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, connecting with disaffected young males hungry for a father figure.
Alpha Males don’t wait for opportunities to knock on their door. They break the door down and make it happen.

Rogan is a mixed martial artist as well as a stand-up comic. That requires patience, discipline, and a dedication to one’s health that goes beyond what most people embrace.

Young men in particular won’t find many Alpha Male role models in pop culture. James Bond had to ride behind his female partner on a motorcycle in the most recent 007 affair, “No Time to Die.” Iconic male figures like Mad Max and He-Man now play second fiddle to strong, empowered female characters.
Male politicians like Gov. Gavin Newsom and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hardly radiate Alpha Male energy. That leaves many men without a sense of purpose or identity. How many times must they see “the future is female” messages before they feel less than useful?
Rogan welcomes them with humor and tough love. That’s the Alpha Male approach, and it means the Spotify superstar will keep attracting both men and women to his signature showcase.

During an interview with Fox Business&#8217; Neil Cavuto on &#8220;<a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/legendary-cover-model-fabio-criticizes-state-masculinity-world-upside-down?utm_campaign=later-linkinbio-foxnews&amp;utm_content=later-39228772&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=linkin.bio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cavuto: Coast To Coast</a>,&#8221; the 64-year-old model/actor, born Fabio Lanzoni, expanded on comments he made earlier in the year when he slammed the &#8220;woke movement&#8221; of making male characters &#8220;too soft&#8221; in new romance books.
&#8220;Today, it&#8217;s almost like they don&#8217;t like men [to have] testosterone…&#8221; Lanzoni told the host. &#8220;Of course, in times of war, who are you going to rely to [sic]? Soldiers, they have to have testosterone.&#8221;

The &#8220;Bubble Boy&#8221; star then gave his advice to the next generation of men.

&#8220;Be yourself and don&#8217;t drink soy milk,&#8221; Fabio told Cavuto. &#8220;Men and women, they&#8217;re different. Men have to have testosterone.&#8221;
&#8220;And especially, in cases of war &#8230; who do you think is going to save you?&#8221; he added. &#8220;The metrosexual guy in the city or somebody who has testosterone, who is in the army? I&#8217;m telling you, it&#8217;s like the world right now is upside down.&#8221;
Cavuto also showed a picture of the Italian-American star years earlier donning a military uniform as a soldier.
The comments were similiar to ones the actor made earlier this year when he told the <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/06/17/romance-novels-ditch-hunks-for-squishy-centered-men-but-fabio-calls-it-hogwash/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> that the &#8220;woke movement&#8221; of &#8220;soft masculinity&#8221; portrayed in new romance books is &#8220;ridiculous.&#8221;
&#8220;I talk to many people, I talk to many women and the women say, &#8216;We can&#8217;t find real men anymore,&#8217; and they say, &#8216;We want a real man, not a metrosexual,&#8217; so what they say is happening in the new romance novels is detached from reality,&#8221; the actor told the Post. &#8220;It&#8217;s La-La Land.&#8221;
Fabio&#8217;s career took off in the 80s and 90s when he was the face of dozens and dozens of romance novels before making his move to the big screen, the Post noted.

Asked to name the most pressing problem confronting the American family, many conservatives would say its breakdown since the advent of the welfare state. That’s a valid answer, but a larger problem is looming today: a lack of family formation. Fewer Americans are getting married and having children.
Birth rates began to plummet with the generational shift from Gen X (born 1965-1979) to Millennials (born 1980-1994), according to professor of psychology Jean M. Twenge’s Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and Silents—and What They Mean for America’s Future. Fertility had been rising prior to the Great Recession of 2008, <a href="https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pewtrusts.org%2Fen%2Fresearch-and-analysis%2Fissue-briefs%2F2022%2F12%2Fthe-long-term-decline-in-fertility-and-what-it-means-for-state-budgets&amp;data=05%7C01%7CEvan.Myers%40heritage.org%7Cef3d8f9425b54ea0118608db9d9f888f%7Ccbd93b4867ea46759ee84178b273204a%7C0%7C0%7C638277080765269129%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=4LXPnmtQjXnYrzqXlRijEk9VUa%2F35p7dtoPYPit3dso%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a recent Pew report notes</a>, but it fell off sharply after that, and has yet to recover.

Shaw notes that the primary driver behind falling birthrates is not that mothers are having fewer children, but that the number of women who have no children has risen sharply. Most of these women, about 80%, wanted children but either never found a partner or did not do so in time to have children. They were caught unawares, had been poorly educated about female fertility, and thought they had more time.
Part of this outlook towards biology could have to do with the general perception that, through technology, modern society has conquered nature. The contemporary world is a customizable one, and the individual expects his every preference and desire — from his Uber Eats orders to his online dating options — to be met, and promptly. It is difficult to confront the reality that even science is limited by nature, as was exemplified by some of the reactions during the pandemic.

The broken families of one generation can lead to a lack of family formation in another.

Wallerstein and San Francisco State University professor Julia M. Lewis suggest that the impact divorce has on children extends into adulthood, affecting relationships and marriages:
<blockquote>“The central finding of this study is that parental divorce impacts detrimentally the capacity to love and be loved within a lasting, committed relationship…In addition to overcoming their fear of failure, they have a great deal to learn about the give and take of living with another person, about how to deal with differences, and about how to resolve conflicts.”</blockquote>
Children of divorce can be pessimistic about marriage and dismissive of its importance for human happiness. More fundamentally, they are missing a mapped example of a healthy relationship, of what to look for in a spouse and how to communicate well.
Individuals are putting off marriage and children, not only because of shifts in attitudes towards marriage, but because many who want to get married are struggling to find partners. Contributing to this are the effects of what has come to be known as the “boy crisis.” Like falling birth rates, the boy crisis is not just an American phenomenon, but is manifesting itself in many developed countries around the world.
More women are going to college than men, but women still would like partners as educated or more educated than them; for example, women are <a href="https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fphys.org%2Fnews%2F2019-08-women-tinder-highly-men.html&amp;data=05%7C01%7CEvan.Myers%40heritage.org%7Cef3d8f9425b54ea0118608db9d9f888f%7Ccbd93b4867ea46759ee84178b273204a%7C0%7C0%7C638277080766831793%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=fMK2GiMWdf96jN%2BuQI7lvD8oNsnomviyRoQEOx1e9Pg%3D&amp;reserved=0">91% more likely to “swipe right” on Tinder</a> when a man has a master’s versus a bachelor’s degree. According to Twenge, Millennials are making more money than previous generations, but “Every single penny of the rise in younger adults’ incomes is due to women’s incomes.”
This has been some time in the making. In ”The War Against Boys: How Misguided Policies Are Harming Our Young Men,” Christina Hoff Sommers drew attention to the academic gaps between girls and boys and how such gaps would hinder boys’ future earnings in a knowledge economy. Her book was published over 20 years ago. The boys of 2000 are the men of today.
The boy crisis, as devastatingly detailed in political scientist Warren Farrell’s and counselor John Gray’s “The Boy Crisis: Why Our Boys Are Struggling and What We Can Do About It,” can be primarily traced to the absence of fathers, with 40% of children now born out of wedlock. Not only have boys been lagging academically, their lifespans and IQs are decreasing, and young men are turning to drugs, alcohol, and suicide in despair.
The boy crisis, primarily precipitated by the absence of fathers, and a lack of family formation, constitutes a vicious cycle. The effects of dad-deprivation are more severe for boys than for girls, and, according to Farrell and Gray, “This is true not only of boys’ economic future, but also of boys’ emotional intelligence and marital potential — all of which are inextricably connected.” Women desire mature spouses and tend to be hypergamous; they marry those who are equal or above them in terms of education or socioeconomic status. When men are doing poorly, women are without suitable life partners.
Under such circumstances, a hook-up culture, made more possible by the invention of the birth control pill (and, in the case of Millennials and Zoomers, online dating) and encouraged by the tenets of the Sexual Revolution, tends to prevail. This vicious cycle leads men and women to put off marriage. And when women are educated and economically independent, many make the choice of pursuing other opportunities rather than settling with a partner with whom they lack confidence.
Adaptive thinking is called for when it comes to strengthening American families (and indeed, families around the world). Responding to declining birth rates will not simply, nor perhaps primarily, be a matter of adjusting policies that obviously pertain to the family, like parental leave, but addressing phenomena like the boy crisis.
Family policies cater to families that have already been formed, but a major driver of falling birth rates is that people are not getting married in the first place. If we hope to save the American family, we have to recognize this shift — and respond accordingly.

The Real Crisis Affecting The American Family

If for some reason you&#8217;re still holding out hope that some of the &#8220;public health experts&#8221; you see all the time in the national news media actually care about the public, or health, consider the story that did not dominate the news cycle this week. Here&#8217;s the headline: “49,449 Americans killed themselves last year.” The data just came in a few days ago. That&#8217;s the highest number of suicides ever recorded in this country&#8217;s history.
If you viewed that as a problem worth solving as quickly as possible — as any decent person would — then you&#8217;d dive much deeper into that data. You&#8217;d want to know who exactly is committing all these suicides. You&#8217;d want to know their age, sex, race, occupation, and so on. And then you&#8217;d present your findings honestly, as a starting point to address the problem.
But no one from any major media outlet or public health institution is doing that. They&#8217;re not even trying. Instead, we&#8217;re getting quick-hit reports like this one, from Good Morning America:

What the doctor tells us is that &#8220;veterans, physicians, and LGBTQ youth&#8221; are particularly at risk. She doesn&#8217;t delve more deeply into the numbers, though, and neither does anyone else in that segment, which lasts less than two minutes.
You have to wonder if that&#8217;s deliberate, because there&#8217;s a certain demographic group that&#8217;s somehow missing from the ones the doctor mentioned there. It&#8217;s a demographic group that commits suicide at a far higher rate than any other — and has for many years: men. Last year, men accounted for roughly 80% of suicides. Let me say that again: 80%. Men living in rural areas were particularly vulnerable. As of the latest data, men working in the professions of &#8220;mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction&#8221; have the single highest per capita suicide rate in the country, at more than 54 deaths per 100,000 men. Construction is the next-highest category. Ask yourself why Good Morning America made special mention of “LGBT youth” and “physicians” but forgot to mention that nearly all of the suicides are men, and blue-collar men in particular are at the highest risk.
You&#8217;d hate to think that media producers in New York don&#8217;t want you to hear about the fact that men are killing themselves. You&#8217;d like to believe they care about miners, or oil and gas workers, and not just physicians. But that doesn&#8217;t appear to be the case. Most outlets are doing exactly what Good Morning America did. In their writeup on the data, for example, Reuters didn&#8217;t mention the difference between male and female suicide rates at all. Instead, they implied — in the second paragraph of their article — that the problem is not enough gun control. The real problem, according to Reuters, is that you haven&#8217;t given the Democratic Party more power. This is a very dumb conclusion to draw, first because it’s an assault on our constitutional rights. But also because getting rid of guns would simply eliminate one of the dozens of possible ways for a suicidal person to commit suicide. It would not do anything to address the fact that he is suicidal in the first place.
This is a longstanding trend in the media. Scour through the last year of coverage on suicide rates in this country, and you&#8217;d be hard-pressed to find anyone talking about how many men are killing themselves. To the extent you do find any reports on men committing suicide, it&#8217;s always filtered through some forced lens of racial equity and BLM. Here are just a few examples from recent months:

There&#8217;s an epidemic of suicides by black men, the media insists. Is that true? Here are the numbers from the CDC, to the extent you can trust them. Last year white Americans accounted for more than 37,000 suicides, while black Americans accounted for a little over 3,800 suicides. Accounting for population differences, that means white people are killing themselves at roughly twice the rate of black people. That&#8217;s in keeping with data we have going back the past few years — data that&#8217;s widely known. In 2017, the New York Times ran a whole story about how black people were about one-third as likely to kill themselves as white people. Of course, the Times suggested there was some unknown flaw in the data that explained the disparity. They hand-waved it away.
What&#8217;s going on here? Why are so many media outlets unwilling to talk, honestly and directly, about the suicide rate afflicting men in this country?  
Whatever the reason, they&#8217;re not just hiding data on suicide rates. They also rarely talk about all the other obvious, verifiable signs that men are suffering in this country, in ways they never have before. Approximately 70% of homeless people are men. And the total number of homeless people in this country has more than doubled in the last three decades. Meanwhile, men are far more likely than women to use — and overdose on — virtually every illicit drug that exists. The number of these overdoses has increased dramatically in just the past 20 years.

Look at this chart. Fewer than 20,000 people overdosed in 1999. In 2021, the number was over 100,000. Men account for the vast majority of these deaths. Women are nowhere close. Along the same lines, young men report that they&#8217;re single at more than twice the rate of young women. Statistics concerning unhappiness and depression are similar. We all know that men are far more likely to end up in prison, to drop out of school, to fall victim to violent crime, etc.
What&#8217;s causing this? Is it random statistical noise? Is it some combination of globalization, feminism, #MeToo and modern monetary theory? No one seems to care, which tells you a lot. To find anyone talking honestly about these problems, and what&#8217;s causing them, you have to turn to YouTube personalities. For example, here&#8217;s one YouTube channel&#8217;s attempt to address what&#8217;s happening to men in this country. This person begins by talking about social media, the rise of dating apps, and the decline of the economy, among other factors. Here&#8217;s her conclusion:

There&#8217;s a lot of truth to what she&#8217;s saying, obviously. And that video has 1.5 million views in just the last week. You can tell that people are desperate to find answers to this problem, but they can’t look to the corporate media to provide it — or even to acknowledge that the problem exists. What this YouTuber, who goes by the name ShoeOnHead, talks about would go a long way towards explaining the rise of despair, loneliness, and listlessness among men. But she ends her video without offering any solution. So what is the solution, exactly?
That’s where this conversation really starts to break down. To show you what I mean, here’s one corporate media outlet that is willing to acknowledge some of the struggles men face, but the prescription they offer is downright terrible. It would be hilarious if the issue wasn’t so dire. The article from the Washington Post — written by a woman, of course — is impressive in one sense, which is that it manages to reach exactly the wrong diagnosis on every single aspect of the problem. The article is called, &#8220;Men’s groups are embracing an alternative conception of American masculinity.&#8221;
The whole thing reads like parody, so if you&#8217;re able to, check it out immediately. I can&#8217;t recommend it highly enough. The Washington Post wants to give us the real story about why men are lonely and how best to combat the epidemic. What&#8217;s their suggestion? They say dudes should lie around doing breathing exercises and smelling incense while some guy named Rua gropes them and whispers stuff like this:
<blockquote>“I invite you to maybe bring up an intention. How you want to live in this world. How you want to love in this world. How you want to be in this world.”</blockquote>
That&#8217;s not an exaggeration. It&#8217;s a direct quote from the article. The men’s groups that the article profiles are not Bible studies or flag football leagues. They are new age, touchy-feely group hugs, where men learn how to get in touch with their feminine side. Later in the session, the men start screaming and sobbing and letting their emotions &#8220;flow freely&#8221; as they are &#8220;released into the darkness.” The article goes on to quote a bunch of experts who all say the familiar things about how men are lonely and lost because of toxic masculinity that encourages us to be too stoic and reserved, and so forth. It laments the &#8220;cowboy mentality&#8221; that has allegedly contributed to the problem. The masculinity “expert” who coined that phrase is a woman named Niobe Way. 
She of course quickly identifies the real victims in the story of male loneliness: women. She says: 
<blockquote>“Women end up being the therapist for their husband, and more are getting sick of it.” </blockquote>
Yes, God forbid wives have to listen to their husbands and offer them solace and comfort. They’re “sick of it,” says masculinity expert Niobe. This is not a conflicting message at all, is it? On one hand, men need to open up more, but on the other hand, if they do open up then they are putting an unfair burden on their wives, who are being asked to do too much emotional labor. Okay then. By the way, women, if you feel like you’re sick of hearing about your husband’s troubles, just keep in mind that he hears about your’s about a thousand times more often.
Meanwhile, a consultant named Mark Green says this:
<blockquote>&#8220;If a boy expresses too much emotion or too much need for connection, is too giddy, is too joyful, what we say to that boy is, ‘What are you, a sissy? What are you, a girl? What are you, gay?’ It’s your job to dominate those around you, or you will lose status, and that will increase the number of individuals above you who can dish out dominance to you. And what we find is that in that system, in that structure, men are constantly in competition with each other and constantly driven by this sense of anxiety.&#8221;</blockquote>
The problem with this theory is obvious. If a &#8220;cowboy mentality&#8221; and too much macho stoicism is what is driving the epidemic of lost and lonely men, then why is the problem getting worse over time? Everyone agrees it&#8217;s worse now than ever before. I just went through some of the many statistics that prove this. There is a major problem. Men are in bad shape.
But if that is all getting worse, then how can we blame traditional notions of masculinity? There&#8217;s no doubt that it is far less common for boys to be called &#8220;sissies&#8221; these days, or labeled &#8220;gay&#8221; as a pejorative, than it was 50 years ago or at any other time in human history. Indeed historically, the push for a man to be strong, dominant, and unemotional was much more pronounced than it is today. In fact, if a man didn&#8217;t exhibit those traits, then he would die and his whole family would die. It&#8217;s only in recent times that it&#8217;s even been a feasible option for men to be feminine, soft, and in touch with their feelings. And it&#8217;s also in recent times that men have lost all sense of themselves and their purpose and place in the world. 
Speaking of the cowboy mentality, why didn&#8217;t actual cowboys have these problems? If a cowboy mentality leads to despair and suicide, then we should find a whole hell of a lot of it if we look back at the latter half of the 19th century, which was the era of the cowboy. But we find no such thing. The Post’s overall thesis can probably best be summarized in this sentence from the article: 
<blockquote>“American men’s isolation stems in large part from a pervasive cultural belief, experts say: that men should be self-reliant and hide their emotions, especially from other men.”</blockquote>
The absurdity of the premise could not be any clearer. Would anyone argue that the cultural belief that men should be self-reliant and hide their emotions is more pervasive today than it was half a century ago? Of course not. So, again: if that is the cause of the problem, why is the problem worse today? The trends are clearly going the other way. The correlation works entirely in the other direction. As society loses traditional notions of masculinity, suicides increase. This is undeniable. You can try to explain that correlation away all you want, but if you deny it or pretend it doesn’t exist, you lose all credibility in this discussion.
Now, these &#8220;experts&#8221; are correct that men need fellowship, and men are missing it these days. But they even miss the point on that end too, because they encourage men to fellowship in the way that women fellowship. They tell men to sit around and talk about their feelings and so on — do some yoga, listen to soft music, and hold each other and cry. This is not the kind of fellowship men need or want. We can’t expect corporate media’s masculinity experts to understand this, because their masculinity experts are all effeminate. But any normal man can attest that men tend to bond while engaging in a shared activity — usually one that doesn&#8217;t require a lot of talking. Sitting and watching the game. Fishing. Golfing. Playing pickup basketball, and so on.
I went out fishing with my brother-in-law a few weeks ago. When we came back my wife asked me what we talked about. I said we really didn’t talk about much of anything. Mostly we talked about fishing. She was shocked and confused, because women don’t operate this way. But men and women are not the same. And you cannot hope to help men, or offer them any road map out of despair, if you don’t start by acknowledging that basic fact.
When it comes to true male fellowship, the problem is that society has closed off many of the opportunities for this kind of fellowship. There are no men&#8217;s lodges anymore, few bowling leagues and that sort of thing. Most men&#8217;s spaces have either been shut down or feminized. It has been decided that men should socialize like women, and with women, or not at all. This is the message across the board. Society beckons to men and tells them that their salvation is to be women. And then we wonder why so many are killing themselves. We live ultimately in a matriarchal society with institutions either run by women or by effeminate men, who in their arrogance simply cannot accept the fact that men are different from women, and have different needs and desires.
So this is the real problem. It&#8217;s not that men are too focused on masculinity. It&#8217;s that masculinity has been neutered, castrated, driven out of society, leaving men feeling lost and without purpose. Our notions of masculinity aren’t too traditional. On the contrary, they aren’t nearly traditional enough. The solution isn&#8217;t that we sit around and talk about our feelings. It&#8217;s that we do a whole lot less of that sort of thing, and get back to being men again. And if we can be men in a society that embraces and values our masculinity, suddenly this tide of male loneliness and despair will start to ebb. That is the solution. There is no other.
