It is said that the first casualty of war is truth. Perhaps so. But consider the compensating benefit: the humor to be found in the frantic, self-infatuated verbiage that gushes in to coddle the lies and float the narrative.
The propaganda press has been working overtime since February 28, when Donald Trump determined to end the war that Iran started in 1979.
Many connoisseurs of political pathology have commented on the presence of aggravated Trump Derangement Syndrome in the coverage of the war. There is certainly no shortage of TDS in the fabrications that the media have been passing out about the war. But behind the unbridled hatred of Trump is the more abiding hatred of American and Israeli military prowess.
Where to start?
A few days ago, <a href="https://x.com/ishapiro/status/2037167715635404844?s=20">a protest in Philadelphia</a> featured the applause line “For every US soldier who comes back in a casket, we cheer!” Then there are the many “expert” reports claiming that, appearances notwithstanding, America is actually losing the war. We have taken out Iran’s entire leadership, sunk nearly all of its navy, obliterated its air force, crushed its air defenses, exploded more than 90% of its stockpiles of missiles and drones, and leveled most of its war-making infrastructure.
Is The Economist magazine owned by Iran or some other opponent of America? I ask because its surreal, reality-free writing about the war has descended from the tendentious to the preposterous. Just a few days ago, they ran a cover story under the title “<a href="https://x.com/TheEconomist/status/2037126183649689877?s=20">Advantage Iran</a>.” “A month of bombing Iran has achieved nothing,” that once-sober publication whimpered. “Will Donald Trump escalate, or talk? For now, at least, the advantage lies with the Islamic Republic.” Really? Tell that to <a href="https://x.com/davidharsanyi/status/2034973352331268380?s=20">these chaps</a>. Or maybe tell <a href="https://x.com/EYakoby/status/2036987387616628859?s=20">Alireza Tangsiri</a>, head — rather, the late head — of Iran’s Navy. He was checked out just a couple of days ago.
If it were not that unbridled displays of insanity are inherently disturbing, such anti-Trump rhapsodies would be merely amusing. As it is, the element of pathetic mendacity renders them more contemptible than amusing. Consider “<a href="https://foreignpolicy.com/2026/03/20/us-trump-victory-iran-war-dangers/">Why U.S. Victory in Iran Would Be Bad for Washington—and the World</a>,” a recent column in Foreign Policy by Howard French, a professor at Columbia University. It is not often that one encounters such a confection of blinkered, ideologically driven nonsense. French begins by telling his readers that the political situation in the United States is not “normal.” He does not directly name the source of the putative abnormality, but it soon emerges that the primary cause of our discontents is — yes, you guessed it — Donald Trump. Things are so far out of whack, French says, that both the American public and world opinion “should simply not wish for a U.S. victory in the country’s 3-week-old war against Iran.”
Why is that? Why would you not wish America to win a war against the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, a misogynistic totalitarian death cult that for forty-seven years, ever since the installation of Khomeini’s lunatic Shia regime, has murdered hundreds if not thousands of Americans while avidly pursuing nuclear weapons and the extinction of Israel?
Instead of offering an argument, French offers a series of sentiments. We should not want victory in Iran because the United States and Israel are engaged in a “senseless war.” What makes it “senseless”? French says that “U.S. President Donald Trump himself has never given a remotely coherent vision of what a victory in Iran would consist of.” But from the very beginning, <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116147082884192486">President Trump said</a> that his aims in the war were to deny Iran the capacity to acquire nuclear weapons, to make it impossible for them to harry their neighbors with drones and ballistic missiles, to dismantle their network of support for terror exporting proxies like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis, and finally to make it possible for the Iranian people to rise up and take back their country from the Mullahs. Those very specific goals define the “sense” of the war.
President Trump and his lieutenants have <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/2035102800074432620?s=20">iterated those desiderata</a> early and often. French faults President Trump for failing to have “sought authorization from Congress, as the U.S. Constitution calls for him to do.” Let me introduce Howard French to the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Powers_Resolution">War Powers Resolution </a>of 1973, which explicitly authorizes the president to deploy the military for 60 days without congressional approval.
But all this persiflage about process was really just what Kierkegaard called a “preliminary expectoration.” What really bothers Howard French are two things — or rather, two people: Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. “The far bigger problem that underpins all of these realities,” French says, “is that the United States is governed by a malignant narcissist whose megalomaniacal tendencies have bloomed alarmingly before the world’s eyes during his second term in office.” Oh dear. The TDS is far advanced in this one. So is the NDS. Israel, he says, “has become addicted to permanent war as a substitute for politics and reason in its own region, and thereby empowering and emboldening another malignant politician, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
Neither Trump nor Netanyahu is popular in the corridors of Columbia University or the pages of the propaganda press. Ask the Iranian people, though, or Americans uncorrupted by the clarity- and testosterone-sapping virus of elite opinion. French warns about “a future in which Washington has lost most of its other alliances” because of this war. But in fact new allies all over the Middle East are flocking to Washington’s banner. The UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the nations who have <a href="https://x.com/_GlobeObserver/status/2037156692966642016?s=20">refused to consider a ceasefire</a> until the Iranian regime is gone, and both are putting boots where their mouths are, so to speak, promising to send nearly <a href="https://x.com/mitchellvii/status/2037147014383689735?s=20">300,000</a> troops to join battle.
The single worst president in dealing with Iran was Barack Obama, who sent them billions in cash as a bribe but merely accelerated their nuclear program and enabled them to fund their terrorist proxies more lavishly. It should come as no surprise, then, that Howard French holds up Obama as the man whose policies could lead the way forward to “dialogue and mutual reassurances.” What a fool.
Howard French’s embarrassing column proceeds with, “An expert’s point of view on a current event.” His subhead tells us that “the possibility of Trump imposing his personal whims on another nation is even more frightening than U.S. failure.” Some wit on X had the perfect response. It, too, features the rubric, “An expert’s point of view on a current event.” But his subhead gives the game away: “<a href="https://x.com/JTAlexander_/status/2036829710987190705?s=20">Why SPQR Victory in Gaul Would Be Bad for Rome </a>—and the World. The possibility of Caesar imposing his personal whims on another nation is even more frightening than Roman failure.” Touché.

Since 2021, more than 80 churches across Canada have suffered <a href="https://ccrl.ca/">arson attacks</a>. The most recent casualty is the <a href="https://x.com/RebelNewsOnline/status/2036815655941353570">reported</a> fire at the historic Christ Church Anglican in Maugerville, New Brunswick.
If Canadian media covers the fires at all, they will claim a total of 30 to 35 churches have burned across Canada, meaning churches that have burned entirely to the ground. The media will often use phrases like “arson is suspected” and “motives remain unclear.” By that description, one would think a Walmart had burned down. An attack on a house of God, however, is treated by the media as an incidental detail. This is not a stylistic tic — it is the prose of a society willfully blind to the crisis in which it is engulfed.
One need not be Socrates to see the obvious. These are not random accidents but episodes in a larger campaign: an open war being waged against the West. Our collective silence does not assuage it; it shields it and helps it spread.
Every Canadian understands, though few will confess publicly, that these burnings are half-applauded as revenge. Our previous prime minister <a href="https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2024/01/18/church-burnings-canada-unmarked-graves-246978/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIt%20is%20sad%2C%E2%80%9D%20Horgan,%2C%20including%20against%20Catholic%20churches.%E2%80%9D">assured us</a> they are “understandable,” albeit regrettable, responses to the “discovery” of mass graves at residential schools. Except there is one problem: it was and is a lie.
Nevertheless, hints became headlines, headlines became dogma, and dogma became license.

To the Left, whether it corresponds to the truth is secondary to the permission it grants. It conceals under the guise of “justice” a hatred that long predates the tale. Much of what now presents itself as moral outrage is little more than repackaged hatred of Western civilization: of its God, its truth, and its nobility. Old resentments have now learned to call themselves righteous.
To refuse to name this as such is not neutrality but complicity. Consider Canada’s nominally Catholic Prime Minister, Mark Carney. He is known to thunder like a prophet when it comes to Trump or climate change. And yet here he is conspicuously silent. Indeed, he takes great pains to avoid invoking the terms “the West” or “Western civilization.” One gets the impression Mr. Carney prefers to deliver its eulogy rather than defend its inheritance.
This silence is instructive. It educates citizens, especially the young, that nothing is sacred, least of all its own civilization. Resentment, not reverence, becomes the proper orientation towards the highest things. Our enemies, both foreign and domestic, understand precisely what must be erased if the West is to be disarmed.

These fires, however, did not begin in sanctuaries but in the seminar rooms of our universities. Our reigning orthodoxy and radical relativism, pushed by the Left, have filtered down through every institution: from our classrooms to our boardrooms and even our bathrooms. The church burnings are simply where theory meets action: where the lit match meets our steeples.
For decades, we have taught students that all ways of life are equal; that any claim to superiority is a disguised will to power; and that distinctions between noble and base, just and unjust, good and bad, and above all, true and false, are instruments of “oppression.” Relativism came promising peace. We were told that wars and persecutions arose from the conviction that one’s own way is best. Reduce all virtues to “values,” all truth to “opinions,” and civilization to “cultures,” and the source of conflict would dissolve. After all, if there is no truth, there is nothing over which to fight.
But relativism produced not gentle tolerance but a new and fanatical intolerance. “Everything is relative” except, of course, relativism. This alone is absolute and unquestionable. The one unforgivable sin is precisely what the West at its best affirms: that our way of life is superior not by race or conquest, but because it is true; therefore, it is good, just, and noble.
For these radicals, the West represents a rival claim to their tyrannical rule. The West does not simply assert that it is true: we boldly proclaim it is true by both God and nature. Our founding is constituted by the twin roots of Jerusalem and Athens: biblical revelation and reason. Despite their differences, both converge on the same point: there is the Truth; there is a best way of life; and there is a standard that stands both outside and above us.
This is why our churches must burn. Our steeples are the most visible symbol of the biblical half of our inheritance. It is no wonder these steeples were once the highest structures in cities and towns, rising above parliaments, banks, and homes. Our steeples served as silent reminders guiding our eyes, and with them our souls, upward to the highest things, higher than political power, commerce, or comfort.
When the Christian claims that Jesus is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” it is a living rebuke to these radicals. It not only condemns them as inferior or unequal, but exposes them as false. The Church testifies that there is an order and law greater than ourselves and accessible to all through our reason: we are neither our own Creators nor legislators. For leftist radicals, this is intolerable. For, when there is God and Truth, then everything is not permissible.

Our American friends should not delude themselves into thinking this is some uniquely Canadian phenomenon. The same doctrine, the same hatred for the West, and the same fanatics are already entrenched in your universities, bureaucracies, and halls of power. They look north and see not an aberration but a guiding model. Given the opportunity, they would happily bury your churches under ashes, too.
And yet, our enemies pay us great compliments. Hatred and resentment always look upwards: inadvertently, they betray our superiority. If we were truly inferior, the proper orientation would be pity or indifference. Confident victors do not waste precious time and energy making war against defeated opponents. One does not attempt to murder a corpse.
In this way, we owe our enemies thanks. The vehemence of their rage is proportional to the threat they perceive. Our enemies declare that the West is not dead: it is alive and well and remains the greatest obstacle to the tyranny they wish to institute. Our enemies understand this; it is we who have forgotten.
The proper response is not to hide or to apologize for existing, but to regain a seriousness equal to that of our opponents. If they judge this way of life dangerous enough to burn, then it is time we judged it once more worthy of living and of defending in full.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth didn&#8217;t just drop bombs on the IRGC today; he nuked the mainstream media’s &#8220;fake news&#8221; narratives that have been shielding a crumbling Iranian regime.
Speaking from the Department of War, less than two weeks into a conflict that has redefined modern warfare, Hegseth delivered a &#8220;bottom line up front&#8221; that should send shivers down the spines of the mullahs—and some editors at CNN. The reality on the ground? The Iranian military is functionally extinct.
Hegseth, a veteran of the media world himself, didn&#8217;t hold back:

Some in this crew, in the press, just can&#8217;t stop. Allow me to make a few suggestions. People look up at the TV and they see banners. They see headlines. I used to be in that business. And I know that everything is written intentionally.  For example, a banner or a headline, “Mid-East War Intensifies,” splashing on the screen the last couple of days alongside visuals of civilian or energy targets that Iran has hit because that&#8217;s what they do. What should the banner read instead? How about “Iran Increasingly Desperate.” Because they are. They know it and so do you, if it can be admitted.

“Or more fake news from CNN,” he continued. “Reports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war&#8217;s impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Patently ridiculous, of course. For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do: hold the Strait hostage. CNN doesn&#8217;t think we thought of that. It&#8217;s a fundamentally unserious report.”
“Another example of a fake headline that I saw yesterday: ‘War Widening,’” he noted. “Here&#8217;s a real headline for you for an actual patriotic press. How about ‘Iran Shrinking, Going Underground’? You see, Iran&#8217;s leaders are hiding in bunkers and moving into civilian areas. The only thing that is widening is our advantage.”
Hegseth detailed an unprecedented air campaign, a lethal symphony between the U.S. Air Force and the Israelis that has conducted over 15,000 strikes in less than two weeks, more than 1,000 strikes a day. He said Iran has no air force and no navy—at least not one that isn&#8217;t currently decorating the floor of the Persian Gulf. Their missile volume is down 90%, and their drone capability has been slashed by 95%.
But Hegseth emphasized the most critical blow: it’s not just what they’ve lost; it’s what they can never replace.
&#8220;Every company that builds every component of those missiles has been functionally defeated, destroyed,&#8221; Hegseth declared. &#8220;Buildings, complexes, and factory lines—all across Iran—have been destroyed.&#8221;
The Secretary also pulled back the curtain on the state of the Iranian leadership. He described the &#8220;so-called not-so-supreme leader&#8221; as a wounded, disfigured coward hiding in a bunker, unable to even produce a video or voice recording to prove he’s still functional.
&#8220;Who&#8217;s in charge? Iran may not even know,&#8221; Hegseth said, contrasting the &#8220;confused&#8221; regime with the &#8220;unshakable&#8221; will of the American people and President Trump.
Despite the tragic loss of a U.S. KC-135 tanker crew—heroes Hegseth promised to meet at Dover—the mission remains clear: Peace through strength. Hegseth confirmed that today will see the highest volume of sorties and bomber pulses yet.
With President Trump’s hand &#8220;firmly on the throttle,&#8221; the objective is total victory: the destruction of the defense industrial base, the elimination of the navy, and the absolute denial of a nuclear weapon. As Hegseth put it: &#8220;We’re going up. They’re going down.&#8221;

The Washington Post, the crown jewel of the billionaire-funded activist press, reportedly hemorrhaged more than $100 million in 2025, according to a report from <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/media/washington-post-losses-topped-100-million-in-2025-85076aae">The Wall Street Journal</a>.

This staggering deficit follows a $100 million loss the previous year, and a $77 million loss in 2023, highlighting a catastrophic downward spiral for the Jeff Bezos-owned outlet that has failed to find a pulse in the modern media landscape.

The financial bloodbath has already triggered a &#8220;painful&#8221; restructuring, with the Post slashing its staff by a massive 30% earlier this month. In a candid internal meeting held Wednesday, acting CEO Jeff D’Onofrio and Executive Editor Matt Murray laid bare the dysfunction. D&#8217;Onofrio revealed that while newsroom costs surged 16% over the last five years, productivity cratered; the number of stories published by the outlet has plummeted by 42% since 2020.

His departure followed a brutal year of buyouts and resignations.

Many of these exits were prompted by Bezos’ attempts to steer the paper back toward &#8220;timeless American values&#8221; and &#8220;personal liberties,&#8221; a move that reportedly infuriated a newsroom more accustomed to acting as a megaphone for the D.C. establishment than a balanced news source.

As the Post struggles to remain solvent, its desperate pivot to technology has only worsened its credibility crisis. The recent launch of &#8220;Your Personal Podcast,&#8221; a customizable AI-generated audio tool, turned into an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-washington-posts-ai-podcast-rollout-has-been-a-train-wreck">unmitigated disaster</a>. The AI began &#8220;spitting out fake quotes&#8221; and inventing commentary, forcing editors to scramble to fix errors delivered at scale.

Internal communications showed editors were &#8220;infuriated&#8221; by the botched rollout, which occurred just as the Trump administration intensified its criticism of the outlet as a top &#8220;media offender.&#8221;

The Post’s reporting has also faced embarrassing public rebuttals from the Pentagon. Earlier this year, the paper published a widely circulated hit piece on War Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging he gave a &#8220;kill them all&#8221; order during a naval operation. The report was swiftly and flatly refuted by Navy Admiral Mitch Bradley, who told Congress the order was never given, exposing the Post’s reliance on &#8220;anonymous sources&#8221; to push partisan narratives.

With sports departments shuttered and international bureaus shrinking, the Post is now attempting to reinvent itself as a lean, national-focused outlet. But as the &#8220;exodus&#8221; of both readers and writers continues, it remains to be seen if even the deep pockets of the Amazon founder can save a legacy institution that has effectively alienated half of its potential audience.

Democrats are claiming that President Trump is a racist because he is deploying help to clean up the giant poop spill in the Potomac.
On Monday, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/02/16/potomac-raw-sewage-moore-trump-fema-truth-social/">reported</a>:
<blockquote>President Donald Trump said Monday that federal authorities will respond to a major sewage spill that occurred four weeks ago in the Potomac River, which flows between Maryland, Washington and Virginia. In a post on his social network, Truth Social, Trump said the Federal Emergency Management Agency would play a key role in a response involving “Management, Direction, and Coordination” to protect the Potomac. FEMA is one of the agencies affected by the current partial government shutdown; in past shutdowns, its employees have largely been required to work without pay.
Trump blamed “local Democrat leaders” for “gross mismanagement” in his post, and he singled out Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D), suggesting that the governor is incapable of handling the situation. On Air Force One on Monday afternoon en route to Washington from Mar-a-Lago, Trump again criticized Moore. “I don’t like the fact that he did that horrible, you know, with the pipes and the Potomac, and he’s not doing the job,” Trump said. “I’m going to have to get the federal government involved in getting it fixed, because he can’t fix anything.”</blockquote>
Wes Moore tried to claim it was actually the federal government&#8217;s fault. It is not. He says he&#8217;s a victim of President Trump now. Sure, it&#8217;s his state pumping raw sewage into the rivers, but it is President Trump who is the real exploiter here.
 Moore will most likely run for president in 2028. I think that would be a quixotic quest; I do not think that he has “it,” whatever “it” is.
“I think the president just seems to have a very real issue with the fact that I do not bow to him and I will stand up to him because I will always defend my people. But the fact that I am the only black governor in this country and the fact that he seems to have a real issue with me, I think that&#8217;s an issue he&#8217;s got to take up,” he <a href="https://x.com/TheArenaCNN/status/2024252428959310008">declared</a>.
It&#8217;s very sad. What a victim.

Moore also claims that President Trump may be a racist because he is “assaulting” employment opportunities for black women.
He <a href="https://x.com/TheArenaCNN/status/2024252428959310008">stated</a>, “He also has spent the past year making a direct assault on scholarships for HBCUs. The past year, we have seen the greatest assault on unemployment for black women that our country has ever seen. He&#8217;s spending his time attacking history and banning books. I honestly think that, you know, it&#8217;s a question not just for the president, but frankly, I think it&#8217;s also a question for white America. If they are looking at his actions. I think that&#8217;s something that people need to wrestle with.”
This is ridiculous. The unemployment rate in the country right now is 4.3%. Trump is not undercutting black women.
If the claim by Moore is that government employment has been cut in certain areas and that demographically this disproportionately affects black women, that does not mean that Trump is specifically targeting black women by cutting federal jobs.
Claiming victimhood on behalf of black women everywhere because President Trump is cutting federal jobs is truly silly, especially on the same day that President Trump was celebrating Black History Month at the White House.
Our apparently incredibly racist president <a href="https://x.com/rapidresponse47/status/2024222985142382935?s=46">said this</a>:
<blockquote>Black Americans have stepped forward to defend the flag and to defend our country like few others. And you&#8217;ve never really been given the recognition that you should get for that. I don&#8217;t think a lot of people have given the kind of recognition, but, everyone knows all about the Tuskegee Airmen. They were great and amazing. The Buffalo Soldiers, you know, the Buffalo Soldiers? Good stuff, right? Black leaders from Frederick Douglass to Martin Luther King. &#8230; have made our country freer. What they&#8217;ve really done is made life more just.</blockquote>
What a racist. That is egregiously KKK-type racist stuff.
One reporter on Wednesday took the opportunity to ask about whether Trump is a racist, since he has been called racist so many times. 
He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bHKojtGTPI">asked</a>, “Where or when does the president believe he&#8217;s been falsely called racist?”
“You&#8217;re kidding, right?” White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt fired back, “I will pull you a plethora of examples. I&#8217;m going to get my team in that room to start going through the internet of radical Democrats throughout the years who have accused this president falsely of being a racist. And I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s many people in this room and on network television across the country who have accused him of the same. In fact, I know that because I&#8217;ve seen it with my own eyes.”
I love it. 
One D.C. resident gave a very lively speech during this event at the White House. Her grandson was violently killed in Washington, D.C., and she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DU6nStNjl2A/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link">raved about Trump</a>: 
“We need National Guard, which we did years ago. He brought it on. I love him. I don&#8217;t want to hear nothing you got to say about the racist stuff. And don&#8217;t be looking at me on the news, hating on me because I&#8217;m standing up for somebody that deserves to be stand up for. Get off the man&#8217;s back. Let him do his job. He doing the right thing. Back up off. And grandma said it!”
But, oh, look at that vicious racist in the White House.

Now, see if you can detect a <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/melania/reviews/top-critics">slight tonal shift</a> in reviews for “Melania,” the new documentary capturing First Lady Melania Trump, who also produced the film, as she moves back into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
<blockquote>Globe and Mail: Ratner has accidentally delivered the ultimate chronicle of 21st-century excess and greed, a world of casual yet immense cruelty covered in flop sweat and gold glitter.
Variety: A documentary that never comes to life. It’s a “portrait” of the First Lady of the United States, but it’s so orchestrated and airbrushed and stage-managed that it barely rises to the level of a shameless infomercial.</blockquote>
Several reviews compared the film to Nazi propaganda. One critic gave “Melania” a “rotten” score at Rotten Tomatoes while admitting <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/melania-reviews-critic-didnt-watch/">he never actually saw the film</a>. (That review was quickly removed from the critical aggregator site)

The Guardian’s review compared the movie to <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2026/jan/30/melania-review-trump-film-is-a-gilded-trash-remake-of-the-zone-of-interest">2024’s “The Zone of Interest.”</a> That well-received drama depicted a Nazi family living next door to a concentration camp.
The reviewer didn’t stop there, mocking FLOTUS’s face and voice, a no-no in critical circles. Review the film, not the physical attributes of the people on screen. When a Variety scribe suggested actress Carey Mulligan wasn’t pretty enough to play the femme fatale in 2020’s “Promising Young Woman,” the outlet <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/2021/jan/28/variety-apology-carey-mulligan-film-critics">uttered an apology</a> directly to the actress.
For some reason, that unwritten rule didn’t apply to “Melania.” Nor should FLOTUS expect an apology any time soon.
The chasm between movie critics and general audiences over “Melania” may be the new, startling benchmark. Rotten Tomatoes lists the film as having a 7% “Rotten” score from movie scribes and <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/melania">a 99 percent “fresh”</a> rating from the public at large.
Those blistering critiques, delivered by a film body that leans overwhelmingly to the Left, were just part of the media’s war on “Melania.”
The said war began before “Melania” hit American theaters on January 30. Outlet after outlet preened over reports of <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/movies/articles/melania-trump-promotes-film-amid-210206431.html">poor pre-release ticket sales</a>. So did <a href="https://www.aol.com/lifestyle/stephen-colbert-roasts-melania-documentary-144531012.html">Stephen Colbert of “The Late Show” fame.</a>
Empty theaters, reporters cried, suggested “Melania” would underperform even modest expectations. It did the opposite, earning north of $7 million in its opening frame. Recent documentaries made far, far less.

For context, most documentaries are lucky to earn $1 million in theaters. “Melania,” media voices argued, might not make it to the $3 million mark. And, with a gaudy $40 million price tag courtesy of Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, that’s a debacle.
Except “Melania” delivered the biggest <a href="https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/insight/melania-opens-with-decade-best-documentary-debut/gm-8AE15378FA?gemSnapshotKey=8AE15378FA-snapshot-4&amp;ocid=AARDHP">documentary debut in a decade</a>. The film <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2026/02/05/nolte-exclusive-melania-gains-more-box-office-steam-with-wednesdays-1-25-million-haul/">has kept earning since then</a>.

USA Today argued it’s <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/columnist/2026/01/30/melania-movie-amazon-documentary-trump/88415378007/">“patriotic” to slam “Melania</a>.”
To be the subject of a documentary, one would think you’d have to accomplish something beyond being a complicit grifter in two of the most cruel, dishonest, and dangerous presidential terms in American history.
Indiewire said the film’s box office success <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/features/commentary/melania-box-office-documentary-filmmakers-worried-1235177403/">is terrible news for the documentary genre</a>.  Suddenly, a rising tide doesn’t lift all boats.
It’s a scary time for documentarians. Will they have to start working with the likes of Brett Ratner to make infomercials that please Donald Trump to pay the bills? The success of “Melania” suggests they might.
Meanwhile, a news media landscape that routinely decries review bombing – the practice of slagging a film or TV show sight unseen due to a variety of pre-release complaints, like overt wokeness – suddenly <a href="https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/01/melania-documentary-reviews-deleted-letterboxd/">cheered on review bombing of “Melania.”</a>
NPR needed something negative to share about the film. So it dug into the demographic breakdown of movie patrons and determined a large number of <a href="https://www.npr.org/2026/02/02/nx-s1-5693775/melania-documentary-box-office-audience">older white women</a> lined up to see “Melania.”
How often do media outlets report on the demographics of a given film? Hint: Not very often. NPR likely sought to portray the film’s fan base as overwhelmingly white (with a touch of supremacy?)
A few outlets have thrown all credibility to the wind to savage “Melania.” The far-Left Daily Beast took the crown here. The site has repeatedly called the film a “<a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-desperately-tries-to-juice-melania-doc-after-box-office-flop/">flop,”</a> although it’s on pace to pass 2024’s “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/am-i-racist?elementPosition=1&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Shows+and+Movies&amp;rowType=Portrait+Show+Carousel">Am I Racist?</a>” as the most successful documentary of the last decade.

“Melania” expands its release pattern in its second weekend, upping the theatrical count to 2,000 screens. Even if the film underperforms from here, the theatrical release has done its job.
Amazon likely viewed the film all along as a Prime Video draw, first and foremost. The documentary will draw attention and eyeballs to the streaming service, giving it a competitive title in a cutthroat streaming landscape. The film’s theatrical bow is an extended promotion for its final, digital destination.
Why all the unprofessional hate? The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/politics-news/melania-trump-brett-ratner-documentary-interview-1236489826/">First Lady may have said it best</a> at the premiere of her own movie.
“Superior storytelling drives culture and in turn moves markets.”
Legacy Media outlets fear a conservative encroachment on their turf most of all.

After months of criticism from former CBS News staffers and other leftists over her push for even-handed journalism, new Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss appears vindicated: CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil pulled in 6.4 million viewers on January 19, its biggest audience since 2021.

The first flashpoint came when Weiss spiked an investigative segment by Sharyn Alfonsi titled &#8220;Inside CECOT,&#8221; which focused on a notorious prison in El Salvador. Weiss said the segment lacked sufficient context and did not include a response from the Trump administration. The backlash later escalated when roughly 200 former CBS staffers and industry figures signed an <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/12/29/media/cbs-news-journalists-to-urge-david-ellison-to-protect-independence-after-bari-weiss-pulled-60-minutes-report-on-salvadoran-prison/">open letter</a> to Paramount CEO David Ellison, expressing &#8220;deep reservations&#8221; about Weiss&#8217;s leadership and urging him to protect the network&#8217;s &#8220;crown jewel&#8221; from what they called her &#8220;clumsy editorial interference.&#8221;
Weiss later drew criticism after reportedly sending a memo to staff asking for a detailed account of their weekly working hours, signaling a shift toward stricter newsroom expectations.
When she was hired, former CBS News anchor Dan Rather <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/dan-rather-bari-weiss-skydance-paramount-merger-statement/">stated,</a> “It is also hard to believe Weiss will be an equitable steward of the storied news division &#8230;”
The usual suspects have declared war on Weiss for refusing to continue CBS News&#8217;s slavish devotion to leftist perspectives. Even David Letterman called the media outlet a &#8220;wreck,&#8221; saying its integrity had been &#8220;eviscerated by these idiots that have taken it over.&#8221;
The Guardian<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/media/2026/jan/05/bari-weiss-cbs-news?utm_source=chatgpt.com"> reported</a> earlier this month, “ &#8230; her three months as editor in chief have been more chaotic than even many of her critics expected. ‘There is blood in the water,’ said one CBS News journalist.”
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/13/business/media/cbs-evening-news-bari-weiss.html">chimed in</a>, “Her reimagining of CBS News has faced heavy scrutiny, and even became a punchline on her own network: At Sunday’s Golden Globes, broadcast by CBS, the host, Nikki Glaser, earned one of her biggest laughs when she declared that CBS News was ‘America’s newest place to see BS news.’”

If there&#8217;s one key rule to American politics, it’s this: Americans do not like ugly pictures on their television.
There’s a lot Americans will tolerate, so long as they don’t have to see it on their televisions. Bad things happen constantly, both around the world and here at home. In a country of 340 million people, that’s inevitable. But when bad things elevate to television on a consistent basis, people tend not to like it. And that&#8217;s what has happened with ICE activity in major cities.
Who gets blamed for those ugly pictures on the television becomes the question, but it is not typically good for the elevation of an issue when raised under a particular president. If there are tons of pictures of people crossing the border en masse on our television under Joe Biden, it is not going to redound to his benefit. If there are a lot of ugly pictures on television of ICE agents confronting illegal immigrants or people who are attempting to block and tackle on behalf of illegal immigrants, it turns out that Americans aren&#8217;t going to like that either.
Americans generally like the idea of Immigration and Customs Enforcement doing immigration enforcement, finding people who are here illegally and deporting them, particularly if those people are criminals.
But what they do not like are pictures on their television screens of mass mobilization in the streets. They don&#8217;t like images of people being shot in their cars, even under disputed circumstances like Renee Good.
Fifty-six percent of Americans thought ICE was being too tough in November; today, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ice-trump-greenland-trump-poll/">that number is 61%</a>. Only about 15% say they&#8217;re not being tough enough. Among independents, only 35% say that the protesters have gone too far.

The Trump administration would like to believe that Americans believe that the people being prioritized for deportation are criminal illegal immigrants, because that is who is generally being prioritized: criminal illegal immigrants. But increasingly, Americans are not feeling that.
In November, 48% of Americans said that it was largely dangerous criminals who were being prioritized for deportation. Today, that number is 44%. Approval for the Trump administration&#8217;s program to deport immigrants illegally in the United States has dropped from 51% in December, down to 46% today.
It isn&#8217;t about the goals; it is about the pictures. Fifty-three percent of Americans apparently say that ICE operations in the United States should be decreased. Those are not great numbers for the president on an issue where, generally, he is quite popular.
But that doesn&#8217;t mean people trust Democrats.
A recent poll out from the Wall Street Journal looked at which party in Congress is best able to <a href="https://x.com/PollTracker2024/status/2012737797832966225">handle border security</a>. Since Democrats are not trusted on this issue, the Republican numbers look good.
Ugly pictures on the television do make a difference. This is likely why Democrats are sending protesters into the streets now.
But Democrats can overplay their hand. Right now, people are attributing the ugly images to the activities of ICE. But what happens when, for example, chaos breaks out at a church, which is what happened over the weekend, when a chaotic mob stormed through and shut down a Minnesota church over a pastor&#8217;s alleged ties to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The First Amendment does not mean that you get to walk on private property and start shouting in the middle of somebody&#8217;s business or in the middle of a church service.
The FACE Act prohibits desecrating houses of worship or interfering with Christian worshipers. The DHS says they will investigate. “All of the civil DOJ agitators aren&#8217;t just targeting our officers,” said the DHS in a post. “Now they&#8217;re targeting churches to then going from hotel to hotel, church to church, hunting for federal law enforcement who are risking their lives to protect Americans.”
This sort of activity by Democrats is likely to backfire.
The most recent ugly image people have in their heads is the image of Renee Good.
But that image can be replaced by a series of ugly images from Democrats, including, for example, storming churches.
There&#8217;s a fascinating <a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/martin-luther-kings-game-theory-c33a577e?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqd7S08GEXiQtGaQ5zxl9lQ4CDKDNsoRDUaAA3VKE-QxR5JeQBma1kPr&amp;gaa_sig=fJoFFsQ3hXvmU_v4MjDcqQaWgVg0LpSM1bR8u86IiMpvsiJduWpcV1aqKX2WGjjtpe-Om7UQChhTMC66wbF4eA%3D%3D&amp;gaa_ts=696e74cb&amp;utm_source=chatgpt.com">piece</a> by Roland Fryer in The Wall Street Journal talking about the effect of protests. And one of the points Roland Fryer makes is that a nonviolent protest that does not disrupt things like church services is likely to work out better for you than being absolutely confrontational, violent, or chaotic.
He writes, “When I was young, I mistook restraint for weakness and anger for honesty. What I failed to see — and what we still fail to teach students—was that Martin Luther King wasn’t avoiding conflict. He was engineering it, on terms that made progress possible.”
In other words, don&#8217;t run into a church, start screaming at the top of your lungs, and hope that Americans are going to like that sort of thing — because they very likely will not.
Many things are less about the policy than about the implementation.
And ugly pictures, more often than not, make the difference.

Border czar Tom Homan said on Thursday that the Trump administration needs to be &#8220;better at messaging&#8221; on Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations to push back on what he called &#8220;false&#8221; legacy media narratives.
Homan <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6387789141112">told</a> Fox News host Laura Ingraham that recent polls showing growing disapproval for Trump&#8217;s massive deportation operations are &#8220;egged on by the press.&#8221; Recent surveys conducted by the <a href="https://www.axios.com/2026/01/15/trump-ice-foreign-policy-economy-immigration-polls">Associated Press</a>, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/republicans-split-trumps-aggressive-immigration-crackdown-reutersipsos-poll-2026-01-15/">Reuters</a>, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/14/politics/ice-minnesota-cnn-poll">CNN</a>, and <a href="https://poll.qu.edu/poll-release?releaseid=3945">Quinnipiac</a> show Trump&#8217;s approval rating on immigration slipping, despite immigration being one of the top issues that helped him win the 2024 election.
“Tom, are you concerned about the CNN and Quinnipiac polls that show declining public support for ICE and President Trump’s approach to immigration enforcement? Do you think those are accurate, or are they being egged on by the press?” Ingraham asked.
&#8220;I think they’re being egged on by the press. I think there’s a lot of false media out there. And I think we need to be better at messaging at what we’re doing,&#8221; Homan replied. &#8220;Look, bottom line is 70% of everybody arrested is a criminal. We need to start advertising that every single day and put their pictures all over social media.&#8221;
&#8220;We just gotta push back the lies because a lot of people don&#8217;t get the facts,&#8221; he added. &#8220;And we gotta be better about getting the facts out there.&#8221;
As part of gaining an advantage in messaging, Homan also proposed creating a &#8220;database&#8221; of people who are arrested for impeding ICE operations.
&#8220;These people saying, follow ICE, film ICE — you can protest, they have that right. But when you cross that line, and we&#8217;ve proven it, if you interfere or impede or assault an ICE officer, you will be prosecuted,&#8221; Homan said.
He added that he wants to make people who are arrested for getting in the way of ICE operations &#8220;famous&#8221; and will have their faces &#8220;put on TV.&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re going to make their employers and their communities and their schools know who these people are,&#8221; Homan continued.
Following the shooting death of Renee Good last week, protesters have followed ICE around the city, and in some cases, have confronted and impeded federal agents. Protesters in Minnesota were encouraged by Democratic Governor Tim Walz to record ICE activities to help the state &#8220;create a database of the atrocities against Minnesotans&#8221; that could be used for &#8220;future prosecutions.&#8221;
Demonstrators surrounded federal law enforcement officers on Wednesday night following another ICE shooting, when an agent shot a Venezuelan illegal immigrant in the leg after the agent was attacked by three illegal immigrants, according to the Department of Homeland Security. During the protests following Wednesday night&#8217;s shooting, agitators threw fireworks at law enforcement, and authorities had to clear them out of the area with tear gas.
Some federal law enforcement vehicles were also vandalized on Wednesday night, and one video showed agitators breaking into an agent&#8217;s equipment box, which was in the back of a vehicle.
&#8220;If the hateful rhetoric doesn&#8217;t stop, there&#8217;s going to be more bloodshed. It&#8217;s not over,&#8221; Homan said. &#8220;What scares me the most is there&#8217;s going to be another death.&#8221;

CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil delivered a New Year&#8217;s Day message promising changes in coverage at the legacy media network, at least as far as he is concerned. Dokoupil, who will helm the outlet&#8217;s iconic &#8220;CBS Evening News,&#8221; said he was ready to pull out all the stops to make viewers trust the news again.
Dokoupil, who appeared regularly on &#8220;CBS Mornings&#8221; alongside hosts Gayle King and former pro-footballer Nate Burleson, is making the move to primetime amid other changes being made by new Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss. He delivered a statement promising to do better via a video posted Thursday to X.

Dokoupil went on to list a number of stories with which people on one side of the aisle or the other had taken issue: from COVID lockdowns and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton&#8217;s emails to Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop, the Iraq War, and former President Joe Biden&#8217;s fitness for office — and he said that he understood why people were so upset.
