Former Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) said that comments from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in the wake of Charlie Kirk&#8217;s assassination were proof that the Democratic Party was &#8220;getting worse, not better.&#8221;
Manchin joined CNN host Kasie Hunt to discuss the current political climate, and she began by referring to Ocasio-Cortez&#8217;s comments objecting to the Congressional resolution to honor the recently murdered conservative commentator.

&#8220;She does say that we should &#8216;be clear about who Charlie Kirk was, a man who believed that the Civil Rights Act that granted black Americans the right to vote was a mistake,'&#8221; Hunt began. &#8220;She goes on to name some of the other things that he believes in. What was your reaction to her vote and to her statement afterward?&#8221;
&#8220;First of all, I just saw a little while ago, and I was stunned, Kasie. I really was,&#8221; Manchin replied. &#8220;This is not the place and the time for that at all. If the Democrats — if AOC and the far Left, the extreme Left I want to say — believe that&#8217;s where the party, the Democratic Party, is today, then that&#8217;ll tell you why you lost people like me, and an awful lot.&#8221;
&#8220;Now, let me tell you what you&#8217;ve lost,&#8221; Manchin continued. &#8220;Since the last election, they&#8217;ve been doing their national tour and thinking, boy, that&#8217;s something, we&#8217;re really getting into something. The Democratic Party has lost more than 160,000 Democrats that have basically left the party since the November election. So if that&#8217;s the way the Democrat Party is going, it’s getting worse, not better.&#8221;
Ocasio-Cortez was not the only one to use the resolution as an opportunity to smear Kirk and his legacy.

Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) slammed the Democratic Party in an interview over the weekend for being &#8220;extreme&#8221; and &#8220;toxic.&#8221;
Manchin made the remarks during a Sunday interview with CNN when asked why he decided to leave the party that he has belonged to for decades.
&#8220;I am not a Democrat in the form of what the Democratic Party has turned itself into,&#8221; Manchin said. &#8220;The national brand. Absolutely not.&#8221;
He said he told members of the party that they needed to ask themselves why a lifelong Democrat like him left the party when he and his whole family have supported them for generations.
&#8220;The brand got so bad. The D brand has been so maligned from the standpoint of — it&#8217;s just — it&#8217;s toxic,&#8221; he said.
Manchin said that he takes the Constitution very seriously and he believes in protecting the rights of everyone, even those who are in a fringe minority.
He said though that even though he would fight for everyone&#8217;s rights he did not want to be gaslit into believing that those on the fringe extremes were &#8220;the norm&#8221; and he did not want those views imposed on children.
&#8220;I will protect you. Just don&#8217;t try to mainstream it,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And the Democratic Party, the Washington Democrats, have tried to mainstream the extreme.&#8221;
He said that in doing so, Democrats have infringed on people&#8217;s right to make their own decisions about what&#8217;s best for their lives.
&#8220;It&#8217;s the mindset of the left, the progressive left, which was always a minority,&#8221; he said.

Sens. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-manchin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Manchin</a> (I-WV) and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kyrsten-sinema" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kyrsten Sinema</a> (I-AZ) joined with Republicans in a <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1182/vote_118_2_00320.htm#position" target="_blank" rel="noopener">50-49 cloture vote</a>, effectively stymying the bid to give McFerran a new five-year term.
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) was the only lawmaker who did not vote. Axios <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/12/12/manchin-sinema-schumer-nlrb-vote?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=editorial&amp;utm_medium=social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> Marshall had planned orthopedic surgery and GOP leaders were aware that he was not expected to be in attendance.
The setback for Biden means that Democrats were denied a majority at the five-member NLRB until at least 2026 with President-elect Donald Trump in office and Republicans retaking control of the Senate, <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/12/11/congress/nlrb-nominee-stalls-senate-democrats-00193798" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to POLITICO</a>.
Sen. Bill Cassidy, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee ranking member who has <a href="https://www.help.senate.gov/ranking/newsroom/press/ranking-member-cassidy-demands-accountability-from-nlrb-for-abusing-authority-influencing-union-elections-on-behalf-of-labor-organizers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised concerns</a> about NLRB allegedly influencing union elections in favor of organizers, celebrated the vote against McFerran.
&#8220;This NLRB seat should be filled by President Trump and the new incoming Senate. Not a historically unpopular president and a Senate Democrat Majority that has lost its mandate to govern,&#8221; Cassidy said.

On X, HuffPost&#8217;s Igor Bobic <a href="https://x.com/igorbobic/status/1866919229976613229" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared</a> that Manchin said his opposition to McFerran &#8220;is not a surprise to anyone,” pointing to a joint employer rule that he previously <a href="https://www.manchin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/manchin-applauds-senate-vote-to-overturn-biden-administration-rule-threatening-american-franchise-model-small-businesses" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bemoaned</a> for &#8220;saddling&#8221; franchisers with liability for franchise owners.
C-SPAN&#8217;s Craig Caplan <a href="https://x.com/CraigCaplan/status/1866907564509696050" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> Sinema, who like Manchin is leaving the Senate in a couple weeks after not running for another term, returned Wednesday for floor votes for the first time since the upper chamber came back from its Thanksgiving break.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had also filed cloture on a Republican NLRB pick, Joshua Ditelberg, but he <a href="https://x.com/NickNiedz/status/1866919080046862524" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> shut down his own effort to move forward with the nomination after McFerran was blocked.

When pressed by a reporter on whether he would still stand by her in the 2024 presidential contest, he nixed that possibility immediately: &#8220;I&#8217;m not endorsing her, never.&#8221;

Manchin was not the only one to criticize Harris&#8217; plans to axe the filibuster, either. Independent Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema also warned that it would be an unwise course of action — in part because of the door that would open for Republicans if Democrats pressed the issue.
Noting that a move to a 50+1 majority would also give Republicans the ability to pass legislation by that margin — even the nationwide abortion ban that Democrats have repeatedly claimed would come if Trump were reelected. Trump has also repeatedly said that he would not push an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vance-trump-would-veto-abortion-ban-wants-to-end-culture-war-on-abortion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">abortion ban</a>, arguing that regulation of abortion was and should be in the hands of the states.

Sen. Joe Manchin (I-WV) said Tuesday that he would not endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president because of her call to end the filibuster in order to pass federal law creating a right to an abortion. 
Manchin, who became an independent in May after 14 years as a Democratic senator, <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2024/09/24/politics/joe-manchin-not-endorse-harris-filibuster/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told CNN</a> that getting rid of the filibuster, which requires 60 votes to advance most legislation, would lead to chaos in the Senate and tear the country apart. 
“Shame on her,” said Manchin, who is stepping down in January. “She knows the filibuster is the Holy Grail of democracy. It’s the only thing that keeps us talking and working together. If she gets rid of that, then this would be the House on steroids.”
“That ain’t going to happen,” he added when asked if he would back Harris’ campaign. “I think that basically can destroy our country, and my country is more important to me than any one person or any one person’s ideology. … I think it’s the most horrible thing.”
Harris made the comments about getting rid of the filibuster in an <a href="https://www.wpr.org/news/kamala-harris-presidential-campaign-vice-president-housing-affordability-pfas-pollution-wpr-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Wisconsin Public Radio on Tuesday. 
“I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe,” she said. “And get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law the protections for reproductive freedom and for the ability of every person and every woman to make decisions about their own body and not have their government tell them what to do.”
Other Democrats have expressed support for Harris’ proposal to do away with the filibuster for a vote on abortion. 
“I am confident that many of our colleagues will do it exactly as Vice President Harris said, which is to make sure we restore the rights of Roe to every woman in this country,” <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/senate/3165436/harris-renews-senate-democrats-weaken-filibuster-despite-hurdles/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Sen. Harris has focused much of her campaign on abortion, and Democrats have mobilized to place pro-abortion legislation in Republican-led states like Florida, Missouri, and Montana. 
Her call to end the filibuster was criticized by pro-life advocates, who said it would not most Americans would not support it.
&#8220;Harris&#8217; extreme record on the issue of abortion should frighten even pro-choice voters, not to mention vulnerable mothers who face unexpected pregnancies,” said  March for Life President Jeanne Mancini. “She is clear about her support for unlimited abortion, but now she’s calling for the elimination of the filibuster in order to advance the most radical abortion policy the United States has ever seen and one which is totally out of touch with mainstream America.”

The fate of a controversial judicial nominee who has faced stern GOP opposition may come down to attendance, leading to pressure on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-senate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate</a> Republicans to &#8220;show up&#8221; after several of them did not vote during a key juncture last week.
Conservative activists sounded off as U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz of Tennessee, whom President Joe Biden picked to become a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, could pass his final confirmation test <a href="https://www.democrats.senate.gov/2024/09/12/schedule-for-monday-september-16-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">as early as Monday</a>.
Warning of Democrats pushing &#8220;radical and unqualified judicial nominees,&#8221; Judicial Crisis Network President Carrie Severino told The Daily Wire, &#8220;With a tightly divided chamber, Senate Republicans not showing up for key judicial votes is an own goal.&#8221;
May Mailman, director of the Independent Women’s Law Center, said, &#8220;Wake up Senate Republicans. Here we have an attorney accused of unethically pursuing criminal charges, using his government post to pick and choose winners.&#8221;
She also told The Daily Wire, &#8220;That’s exactly the weaponized DOJ our nation cannot survive. Nothing could be more concerning for a lifetime judicial appointment. Show up for this, because American citizens deserve a fair judiciary.&#8221;
Republican lawmakers have raised <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0Tj566sjYE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">concerns</a> about claims that Ritz has acted unethically as a prosecutor, including allegations that he misrepresented the terms of a plea deal and went too soft on defendants accused of gun crimes.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) charged the White House did not <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0Tj566sjYE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;properly&#8221;</a> consult herself and Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) about Ritz, given they are his home-state senators and would traditionally have <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/02/politics/senate-judicial-nominations-blue-slips-durbin/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;blue slip&#8221; authority</a> to block him.
During his confirmation hearing, Ritz said he had a &#8220;clean ethical record,&#8221; <a href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/biden-sixth-circuit-pick-pressured-by-republicans-over-ethics" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Bloomberg</a>. Democrats shrugged off the criticism and said Republicans set a precedent of <a href="https://demandjustice.org/the-path-forward-for-president-bidens-judicial-nominees/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ditching</a> home-state deference under the Trump administration.

The Senate is <a href="https://www.senate.gov/history/partydiv.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">narrowly controlled</a> by the Democrats thanks to the independent members who caucus with them. Overall, there are 49 Republicans, 47 Democrats, and four independents with an election coming up that could shift the balance.
By an 11-10 <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-senate-panel-advances-tennessee-prosecutors-nomination-6th-circuit-2024-05-09/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vote</a> along party lines, the Judiciary Committee advanced Ritz&#8217;s nomination in May, and last week the Senate voted 49-42 to <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1182/vote_118_2_00239.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invoke cloture</a> in a move that paved the way to a final vote expected to happen late Monday afternoon.
Nine senators, <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1182/vote_118_2_00239.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including eight Republicans</a>, did not vote on cloture for Ritz. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) joined with the Republicans who did show up in opposing it. All voting Democrats and the other independents voted to move forward.

The outlet said Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is planning <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/09/10/schumer-judges-confirmation-biden-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a &#8220;blitz&#8221;</a> of votes on judicial picks in the final weeks of Biden&#8217;s administration to beat the 234 mark achieved under former President Donald Trump. You know, a person can be in one position and make a change or a direction change and I would like to see that direction change.&#8221;
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is expected to have its delegates vote on a nominee next month during a virtual roll call or in an open convention at the party&#8217;s convention in Chicago from August 19-22. DNC Chairman Jaime Harrison said there would be a &#8220;transparent and orderly process&#8221; to pick a nominee who Democrats believe can defeat former President Donald Trump.
Manchin said many people would like to see a &#8220;mini primary&#8221; that would help determine &#8220;if you have the strongest candidate, whether it be Kamala or whoever else.&#8221; He rejected the suggestion that he could join the race as Harris&#8217; running mate, chuckling and saying it would not be him. When shown a graphic of governors, senators, and Biden Cabinet members who could join Harris&#8217; ticket, Manchin said they were all &#8220;good people.&#8221; He added, &#8220;Wouldn&#8217;t it be great to see them all? Facing intense pressure from allies to drop out after a fumbling debate performance and concerns about his age and electability, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-drops-out-of-presidential-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Sunday afternoon that he would be stopping his 2024 campaign to focus on the remainder of his term.
Biden, who is 81, later said he was <a href="https://x.com/JoeBiden/status/1815087772216303933" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsing</a> Harris to become the Democratic Party&#8217;s presidential nominee. Harris is 59 years old while Manchin is 76. Former President Donald Trump, who is the GOP&#8217;s presidential nominee, is 78.
Others quickly rallied behind Harris, but not everyone, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/obama-does-not-endorse-kamala-harris-for-president-we-will-be-navigating-uncharted-waters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">including</a> former President Barack Obama. Harris released a statement that said she intended to “earn and win” the nomination — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-happens-with-the-dem-presidential-nomination-now-that-biden-has-dropped-of-the-2024-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">possibly through an open convention</a> in the next several weeks.
During the hours before Biden ended his re-election bid, Manchin appeared on Sunday morning talk shows and joined the chorus of elected officials <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/joe-biden-2024-campaign-step-aside-joe-manchin-face-the-nation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">calling</a> on the sitting president to step aside.

Noting that he was &#8220;partial&#8221; to governors, Manchin touted Democrats Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania as &#8220;two tremendous governors&#8221; in states close to West Virginia.
Manchin, himself an ex-governor, added, &#8220;They haven&#8217;t made you pick a side and demonize the other side. They have brought people together. This is what an open process would do, I think. It would bring more people out in a process that could bring Democrats like me back.&#8221;

Manchin cited &#8220;partisan extremism&#8221; from both Democrats and Republicans as the primary reason for his decision to register as an independent, claiming both parties had left &#8220;West Virginia and our country behind.&#8221;
&#8220;From my first day in public service in 1982, I have always focused on doing what’s best for my state and my country, without regard to party or politics. Throughout my days in elected office, I have always been proud of my commitment to common sense, bipartisanship and my desire to bring people together. It’s who I am. It’s who I will always be. Joe Manchin Leaves The Democratic Party

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-labels-announces-month-to-pick-2024-presidential-contender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">No Labels</a> is dispensing with its effort to put together a viable ticket to challenge the dominant Republican-Democrat binary in the 2024 presidential election, the group confirmed on Thursday.
Sources told <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/elections/no-labels-will-abandon-2024-presidential-campaign-effort-4b4e5121" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a> that the group&#8217;s founder and CEO, Nancy Jacobson, informed allies that a formal announcement was forthcoming after the group reached out to 30 candidates during the unfruitful search.
The group released a <a href="https://www.nolabels.org/no-labels-2024-ballot-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> affirming the decision shortly after the news broke.
&#8220;Americans remain more open to an independent presidential run, and hungrier for unifying national leadership, than ever before,” the group said. &#8220;But No Labels has always said we would only offer our ballot line to a ticket if we could identify candidates with a credible path to winning the White House. No such candidates emerged, so the responsible course of action is for us to stand down.&#8221;
The move comes a little more than a week after Joseph Lieberman, a former U.S. senator and vice presidential candidate who served as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-labels-announces-month-to-pick-2024-presidential-contender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">founding chairman</a> of No Labels, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joseph-lieberman-senator-and-vice-presidential-nominee-passes-away-at-82" target="_blank" rel="noopener">died</a> at the age of 82.
Last year, The New York Times reported that No Labels had raised as much as <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/19/us/politics/no-labels-president-manchin.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$70 million</a> that the group said was needed to help it get on the ballot in states across the country.
No Labels said it had been working to devise a <a href="https://www.nolabels.org/unity-ticket-faqs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Unity ticket&#8221;</a> while citing polls showing <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/01/13/biden-trump-rematch-lead-in-polls/72087419007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dissatisfaction</a> among voters over the prospect of a 2020 rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

The group declared on its website that it would make a determination on whether to proceed with the ticket &#8220;shortly after&#8221; March 15, but had not done so until more than two weeks later.
A number of people were floated as potential matches for No Labels, including Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-manchin-announces-he-will-not-run-for-president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> in February that he would not campaign for the White House after considering his prospects.
Joe Cunningham, the national director of No Labels and a former Democratic congressman from South Carolina, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/no-labels-chief-expresses-interest-in-haley-joining-ticket" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entertained</a> the idea of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nikki-haley" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nikki Haley</a> joining the group&#8217;s ticket before she ended her bid for the GOP nomination.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), a longshot candidate for the Democratic Party&#8217;s nomination who ended his campaign in March, also expressed openness to joining the No Labels ticket — <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/politics/democratic-presidential-candidate-dean-phillips-says-hes-open-to-being-nikki-haleys-running-mate-on-a-unity-ticket/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">as Haley&#8217;s running mate</a>.
Other names that had been bandied about included Jon Huntsman, a former governor of Utah, and Chris Christie, a former governor of New Jersey, who dropped out of the GOP primary contest in January.
There was also former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican who is now <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-republican-governor-announces-surprise-bid-for-senate-in-deep-blue-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">running</a> for the Senate.
No Labels said on Thursday it would &#8220;remain engaged over the next year during what is likely to be the most divisive presidential election of our lives.&#8221;
The group added, &#8220;We will promote dialogue around major policy challenges and call out both sides when they speak and act in bad faith.&#8221;
At this juncture, Biden and Trump have virtually locked up the nominations of their respective parties. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is running as an independent and working to get on the ballot in all 50 states.

According to a <a href="https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2024/03/20/congress/manchin-mounts-his-own-judicial-filibuster-00148147" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published Wednesday by Politico, Manchin has announced a plan to stage his own personal &#8220;filibuster,&#8221; refusing to vote in favor of any of President Joe Biden&#8217;s judicial nominees if they don&#8217;t also have Republican support. And it doesn&#8217;t have to be a lot of support, Manchin said, adding that he would be willing to consider a &#8220;yea&#8221; vote if just one Republican were convinced to vote with Democrats.
&#8220;Just one Republican. That’s all I’m asking for. Give me something bipartisan. This is my own little filibuster. If they can’t get one Republican, I vote for none. I’ve told [Democrats] that. I said, &#8216;I’m sick and tired of it, I can’t take it anymore,'&#8221; Manchin explained.
The West Virginia Democrat said that what he really wanted was to see more bipartisan cooperation, and for that reason, he was simply asking his colleagues to put in the effort and court Republican votes.
&#8220;If they don’t have a Republican, I’m opposing. That’s my way of saying: &#8216;I’m leaving this place, I’ve tried everything I can. Don’t tell me you can’t get one.&#8217; If you’ve got a decent person you can at least get one. Just go ask Lisa [Murkowski, R-AK], go ask Susan [Collins, R-ME], even Lindsey [Graham, R-SC],&#8221; Manchin continued. &#8220;Lisa and Susan both are not controlled by just voting party line, I know that. But you’ve got to ask them.&#8221;
Manchin&#8217;s mention of the filibuster – which then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) abandoned for judicial nominees in 2013 — was an apparent reference to the fact that his own party has been pushing efforts to remove the legislative filibuster altogether.

A far-Left protester was thrown to the ground after he confronted Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-manchin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Manchin</a> (D-WV) during an event on Friday and called the senator a &#8220;sick f***.&#8221;
The incident happened at a Harvard Institute of Politics event Friday morning just minutes after multiple leftists interrupted a talk that Manchin was giving at the Harvard Kennedy School because of his support for natural gas pipelines.
&#8220;Joe Manchin, you sold our futures and you&#8217;ve gotten rich doing it,&#8221; the protester claimed. &#8220;You sick f***. How dare you.&#8221;
Manchin immediately got up in the protester&#8217;s face, at which point one of his aides got between the two men. The aide then literally threw the protester out of the room.
The protester was apparently from a group called Climate Defiance, which posted on X: “We just called Joe Manchin a sick f***. We humiliated him in front of a herd of Harvard elites. He squared up. We held firm. Barbaric murderer, hideous fiend, he torches humanity and laughs.&#8221;
Manchin then addressed the other protesters and offered to sit down and talk with them, but they refused and declared they were not going anywhere.

A Kennedy School spokesperson <a href="https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/3/2/manchin-event-protester-confrontation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confirmed</a> that the Harvard University Police Department was investigating the incident.
“A Harvard University police officer ordered the protesters to leave the Kennedy School campus, and the protesters complied,” the spokesperson said.
