Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is under fire for saying “every day gets better” for Democrats during the government shutdown.
Speaking to Punchbowl News, the New York Democrat explained why he was confident in the Democratic Party’s strategy as the government shutdown winds through its second week with no signs of stopping.
“Every day gets better for us,” <a href="https://punchbowl.news/article/senate/schumer-dems-momentum/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Schumer said.</a> “It’s because we’ve thought about this long in advance and we knew that health care would be the focal point on Sept. 30 and we prepared for it … Their whole theory was — threaten us, bamboozle us, and we would submit in a day or two.”
Republicans quickly took issue with Schumer’s comment.
“Better for Schumer. Worse for Americans,” Vice President JD Vance <a href="https://x.com/jdvance?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on X. “What a vile sentiment from an alleged leader in our country.”

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) wrote on X that Schumer “said the quiet part out loud.&#8221;
Schumer&#8217;s comment left Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) with more questions than answers.
“Better for us. Who is us? Not our military working without pay. Not law enforcement. Not air traffic controllers,” the senator asked.

As the shutdown drags on, more and more government services will cease operating. The Daily Wire reported this week that the shutdown has led to massive <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americans-face-flight-delays-as-government-shutdown-fuels-air-traffic-control-woes?author=Cameron+Arcand&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Americans+Face+Flight+Delays+As+Government+Shutdown+Fuels+Air+Traffic+Control+Woes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flight delays</a> and prevented the release of the latest monthly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-government-shutdown-means-theres-no-september-jobs-report-is-that-bad?author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=The+Government+Shutdown+Means+There%E2%80%99s+No+September+Jobs+Report.+Is+That+Bad%3F" target="_blank" rel="noopener">jobs report.</a>
The shutdown could also have a negative impact on the economy as a whole.
“Each week, a shutdown subtracts about 0.1% of annualized GDP growth via reduced government activity,” Chief U.S. economist at J.P. Morgan Michael Feroli <a href="https://www.jpmorgan.com/insights/global-research/current-events/government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “For as long as the government shutdown goes on, we will be iterating a little bit blind.”
A growing number of Americans — including active-duty service members — will <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americans-will-miss-paychecks-if-shutdown-doesnt-end-tonight?author=Brecca+Stoll&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=1&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Americans+Will+Miss+Paychecks+If+Shutdown+Doesn%E2%80%99t+End+Tonight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">miss paychecks</a> as the shutdown continues.
Instead of a paycheck, federal employees received a letter to pass along to their lenders and creditors asking for consideration given “the unforeseeable nature of this furlough when making decisions that affect employees finances.”
Lawmakers like Schumer are paid throughout the shutdown.

WASHINGTON—As the government shutdown rolls into the weekend, Republicans are making something very clear: this may be the &#8220;Schumer Shutdown,&#8221; but it&#8217;s a different New Yorker who&#8217;s really to blame.
It started on Wednesday, when Vice President JD Vance surprised the White House press corps at the day&#8217;s briefing.
&#8220;The reality here, and let&#8217;s be honest about the politics, is that Chuck Schumer is terrified he’s going to get a primary challenge from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,&#8221; Vance <a href="https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1973442899892191464">said.</a>
From there, it was off to the races. House Speaker Mike Johnson took the talking point and ran with it, highlighting an alleged rift between New York&#8217;s senior senator and the congresswoman from Queens in several interviews and <a href="https://x.com/SpeakerJohnson/status/1973501784909029810">on X,</a> where he proclaimed &#8220;Chuck Schumer is driving his party OFF A CLIFF because he’s TERRIFIED of AOC and the far left. That’s not leadership.&#8221;
All manner of prominent Republicans have invoked the looming Schumer-AOC contest as the reason for the shutdown, including Treasury Secretary <a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1973727982280663179">Scott Bessent,</a> Senators <a href="https://x.com/SenBillCassidy/status/1973756759904039089">Bill Cassidy</a> (LA), <a href="https://x.com/TomCottonAR/status/1973024614487056463">Tom Cotton</a> (AR), and <a href="https://www.marshall.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/senator-marshall-chuck-schumer-is-afraid-that-aoc-will-primary-him/">Roger Marshall</a> (Kansas), as well as <a href="https://x.com/RepDonaldsPress/status/1973172460943274034">Reps. Byron Donalds (FL)</a>, and <a href="https://x.com/NancyMace/status/1973223980036501796">Nancy Mace</a> (SC).
Congressman Mike Lawler (R-NY) told The Daily Wire that the &#8220;Schumer Shutdown&#8221; has &#8220;nothing to do with policy and everything to do with politics.&#8221;
&#8220;Chuck is so consumed by the threat of a primary challenge from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that he’s willing to put his own job security ahead of the American people,&#8221; Lawler said.
He slammed Schumer for &#8220;cowardice&#8221; and said his actions only &#8220;hurt hardworking New York taxpayers.&#8221;
This is hardly the first time lawmakers have blamed the opposing party and their policies for shutting the government down. In 2013 it was Harry Reid and Obamacare; in 2017, Donald Trump and the border wall. But this time around, Republicans are going beyond blaming Democrats or even Democratic leaders. Notably absent from these conversations is House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) who has been as active on the issue as Schumer.
The attempt to drive a wedge between Schumer and AOC — whether to alienate the moderate and radical wings of the Democratic Party, or signal that there&#8217;s no daylight between them — seems to be as much about defining the post-shutdown conversation as it is about assigning blame. Like President Donald Trump, who is leveraging the shutdown to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-meeting-set-to-axe-democrat-agencies">curtail the federal government</a>, congressional Republicans seem intent on using this shutdown to their advantage.
On Friday afternoon, Senate Democrats for the fourth time <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/votes_new.htm">blocked</a> a continuing resolution that would reopen the government. Republicans&#8217; rhetorical strategy continued apace.
NRSC spokeswoman Joanna Rodriguez pointed The Daily Wire an <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/09/26/schumer-government-shutdown-democrats-strategy">Axios report</a> that indicates Schumer &#8220;has been plotting this government shutdown with far-Left radical activists for months.&#8221;
She said she believes Democrats&#8217; low approval ratings are &#8220;only going to keep getting worse&#8221; because Schumer and &#8220;rank-and-file Democrats&#8221; including Georgia Senator John Ossoff are &#8220;more focused on appeasing the deranged rage of their liberal base that wants illegal aliens to have free healthcare.&#8221;
&#8220;There are two very big reasons why Chuck Schumer would make a toxically-leftist policy like free healthcare for illegals as his &#8216;why&#8217; for this shutdown: crazy Democrat primary voters love it, so it could help in an AOC primary. And he is desperate to win over this radical group of openly socialist Senate candidates leading in Democrat primaries across the country that want to end Schumer’s reign as Senate Democrats’ leader if any of them win in the midterms next year,&#8221; Rodriguez said.
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) <a href="https://mariodiazbalart.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-diaz-balart-schumers-shutdown-shows-democrats-are-disarray">observed</a> that the continuing resolution, already passed by the House, is the &#8220;same clean bill Senate Democrats — including Schumer — voted for in March.&#8221;
So, what changed?
Sources with knowledge of the issue told The Daily Wire it all began after Schumer voted to fund the government until Sept. 30, <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/03/13/nx-s1-5327600/house-democrats-outrage-spending#:~:text='Deep%20sense%20of%20outrage%20and%20betrayal':,Democrats%20react%20to%20Schumer%20announcement&amp;text=When%20Senate%20Minority%20Leader%20Chuck,the%20face%2C%22%20she%20said.">reportedly</a> receiving backlash from Democrats.
A month later, a <a href="https://www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2025/4/4/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-leads-chuck-schumer-in-hypothetical-2028-matchup-by-19-points">poll</a> showed AOC leading Schumer in a hypothetical 2028 matchup by 19 points.
“Because Schumer allowed the government to be funded several months ago, the Left wing rose up against him,&#8221; Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said on his <a href="https://x.com/tedcruz/status/1973513750926991502">podcast</a> this week. &#8220;You want to understand why we have a shutdown? It’s one thing: Schumer is looking over his left shoulder and he sees AOC running up behind him — and he is terrified he is going to lose his job,” Cruz said.
Perhaps the surest sign Republicans&#8217; strategy is working is that AOC keeps responding. On Tuesday, she told <a href="https://x.com/BreitbartNews/status/1973186304205865213">MSNBC</a> that the shutdown is &#8220;so not about me.&#8221; Two days later, she and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — the leaders of the Democrat Party&#8217;s radical wing — released a <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5535687-sanders-ocasio-cortez-aca-subsidies-shutdown/">three-minute video</a> on the shutdown.
The next day, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-says-schumer-jeffries-are-leading-democrats-s-rcna235300">NBC</a> pressed AOC again about a possible Senate run. The congresswoman equivocated, saying “I think the answer is that people are sick of politics being determined by these horse races.&#8221;
Schumer&#8217;s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Troops Protecting America Will Go Without Pay 
Thanks to the shutdown, members of the military working to protect America will go without pay until new funding is approved. Despite not getting paid, military personnel will still be expected to stay on duty and perform their required tasks. 
“Military personnel on active duty, including reserve component personnel on Federal active duty, will continue to report for duty and carry out assigned duties. This includes duty involving excepted and, to the extent they can be performed without incurring new obligations, non-excepted activities,” <a href="https://wjla.com/resources/pdf/79d6e679-134e-465a-ade4-dbb99d290dd9-CONTINGENCYPLANGUIDANCEFORCONTINUATIONOFOPERATIONSINTHEABSENCEOFAPPROPRIATIONS.pdf">according </a>to the Department of War’s shutdown contingency plan. 
Civilian employees of the military who are not needed in support roles will be furloughed while the shutdown continues. At the same time, other federal law enforcement officers, such as those working for the Department of Homeland Security, will also go without pay. 
“Our [Homeland Security] law enforcement officers will continue to work throughout the Democrats’ Shutdown to make sure our homeland is safe and secure. More than 200,000 of these patriots will go without pay,” <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1973229586910683546">said</a> Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. “The Democrats will be forcing over 150,000 officers and nearly 50,000 members of the military—our frontline of defense—to continue protecting our nation without pay.”

Law Enforcement Operations
The shutdown could stifle the work of certain federal law enforcement task forces cracking down on violent crime across the country, the National Association of Police Organizations <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrat-led-shutdown-will-put-law-enforcement-lives-on-the-line-without-pay-top-orgs-warn?author=Mary+Margaret+Olohan&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Democrat-Led+Shutdown+Will+Put+Law+Enforcement+%E2%80%98Lives+On+The+Line%E2%80%99+Without+Pay%2C+Top+Orgs+Warn">warned</a>. 
“Federal funding for task forces will stop flowing,” the organization warned. “Federal grants, resources, and supports for state and local law enforcement will stop, leaving vital public safety initiatives in the lurch.”
The organization, which represents 250,000 law enforcement agents, stated that law enforcement personnel should not be expected to put their lives on the line without adequate compensation.
“To have them risk their lives without pay undermines support for the work they are doing and increases the stresses and strains the job puts on them and their families,” the organization added. “We are calling on all lawmakers to do the right thing and enact a continuing resolution to fund the government before time runs out.”
Veterans Will Lose Assistance
Military veterans will also lose access to key Department of Veteran Affairs assistance programs, <a href="https://www.legion.org/information-center/news/veterans-benefits/2025/october/whats-affected-by-the-government-shutdown">according</a> to the American Legion. They will no longer be able to receive transition program assistance or career counseling, regional benefit centers will be closed, and there will be no ground maintenance or placement of permanent headstones at VA cemeteries. Additionally, multiple hotlines will be closed. 
“President Trump opposes a lapse in appropriations, and on September 19, the House of Representatives passed, with the Trump Administration’s support, a clean continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21. Unfortunately, Democrats are blocking this Continuing Resolution in the U.S. Senate due to unrelated policy demands,” the VA <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/trump-administration/live-blog/government-shutdown-2025-trump-live-updates-rcna234261">said</a> in a letter to veterans. 
Travel 
While airports will continue to operate across the country, there could be delays as thousands of Federal Aviation Administration employees are <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/faa-would-furlough-11000-employees-us-government-shutdown-2025-09-30/">expected</a> to be furloughed. Additionally, aircraft controllers and TSA employees will also be working without pay throughout the shutdown. 
“Under [President Trump’s] leadership, [the Department of Transportation] has hired 20% more air traffic controllers than the previous administration did in the same time period. Our team at the [FAA] did tremendous work to make this happen AHEAD of schedule,” said Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. “Now, [Sen. Schumer] and [Rep. Jeffries] are holding their paychecks HOSTAGE to push their America Last agenda through Congress.”
“The American people shouldn’t have to suffer through endless delays and cancellations because Democrats are too busy fighting for benefits for illegal immigrants! Make it make sense!” Duffy added.

Healthcare Programs Expire, Nutrition Programs Languish 
Certain healthcare programs have either expired or are expected to face delays as the shutdown continues. 
For example, the Acute Hospital Care at Home Initiative, which enables hospitals to obtain approval to treat Medicare patients with conditions such as respiratory diseases or bacterial infections at home, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/popular-health-program-will-expire-if-senate-dems-force-government-shutdown-white-house-warns?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=7&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Popular+Health+Program+Will+Expire+If+Senate+Dems+Force+Government+Shutdown%2C+White+House+Warns">expired</a> on Tuesday. The popular program required congressional approval to continue and had been benefiting approximately 1,200 patients per month. 
Two other healthcare programs that could be impacted by the shutdown are the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which provides low-income families with additional nutrition, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which is intended to provide food benefits to low-income individuals. 
The <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/government-shutdown-2025-air-travel-social-security-impact-rcna234594">programs</a> will move forward “subject to the availability of funding,” and House Speaker Mike Johnson said they could be significantly hampered by the program.

“You already see, I think, the Democrats cracking a little bit because they realize it’s such a preposterous position to say, ‘We’re gonna shut down TSA, we’re gonna not pay our troops because you guys won’t give us benefits for illegal aliens.’ It’s crazy, and I don’t think it’s a tenable political situation for them to be in,” Vance said.

Vance explained that the memes — which showed Jeffries with a fake mustache and sombrero and Schumer complaining about the Democratic Party — were made in an effort to &#8220;poke fun at the absurdity&#8221; of some of the demands being made by Democrats with regard to any agreement to fund the government going forward.

Vance went on to say that, in all seriousness, if there were any Senate Democrats who wanted to negotiate a deal to reopen the government, he would be glad to take part.

Vice President JD Vance told Ben Shapiro that he believes that the Democrats’ resolve to continue blocking government funding was “cracking” less than one day into a government shutdown. 
Vance pointed to the support from multiple Democratic senators for a Republican-backed temporary funding bill on Tuesday night as evidence that some rank-and-file Democrats would soon abandon their opposition to the stopgap measure. The vice president made the comments during a Wednesday <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/ep-2290-warfighters-hegseth-trump-launch-assault-on-woke-military?utm_campaign=dwplus&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=iterable&amp;utm_content=20251001_bss">appearance</a> on “The Ben Shapiro Show.” 
“You already see, I think, the Democrats cracking a little bit because they realize it&#8217;s such a preposterous position to say, ‘We&#8217;re gonna shut down TSA, we&#8217;re gonna not pay our troops because you guys won&#8217;t give us benefits for illegal aliens.’ It&#8217;s crazy, and I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s a tenable political situation for them to be in,” Vance said. 
The Democrats who voted with Republicans for a bill that would continue federal spending at the same levels as the previous fiscal year were Sens. John Fetterman (PA) and Catherine Cortez Masto (NM). Sen. Angus King, an independent from Maine who caucuses with Democrats, also supported the temporary spending measure. 
Vance said that Democrats wanted another $1.5 trillion in spending, adding that they are “asking us to give taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits for illegal aliens.”
“Under the Biden administration, we would pay all of the hospital benefits for illegal aliens if they went to an American hospital,” Vance said. “So we turned that program off in President Trump&#8217;s ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill.’ The Democrats want to turn it back on, and that would cost, again, hundreds of billions of dollars.”

WASHINGTON—Vice President JD Vance emerged from a White House meeting with congressional leadership with a grim message.
&#8220;I think we&#8217;re heading to a shutdown, because the Democrats won&#8217;t do the right thing,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;I hope they change their mind, but we&#8217;re going to see.&#8221;
President Donald Trump and Vance met at the White House Monday afternoon with Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Their goal — to pass a continuing resolution that will keep the government open before October 1 — seems to remain out of grasp.
The seven-week extension will allow time for the appropriations process to take place and will fund the government until November 21. The House of Representatives passed the bill on Sept. 19 by a <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/5371/all-actions?overview=closed&amp;q=%7B%22roll-call-vote%22%3A%22all%22%7D">vote</a> of 217-212. The Senate, however, failed to adopt the continuing resolution by a <a href="https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes/vote1191/vote_119_1_00528.htm">vote</a> of 44-48. The Senate will need 60 votes in order to pass the resolution.
The leaders spoke with reporters outside the White House following the meeting, but did not indicate any sign of a deal as Republican leaders urged Senate Democrats to pass the continuing resolution which was previously passed by the House.
“We have disagreements about tax policy, but you don’t shut the government down. We have disagreements about healthcare policy, but you don’t shut the government down,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;You don’t say the fact that you disagree about a particular tax provision is an excuse for shutting down the people’s government and all the essential services that come along with it.&#8221;
Vance said he believes the American people are &#8220;going to suffer because these guys won&#8217;t do the right thing.&#8221;
Schumer said Democrats presented proposals to the president during the meeting and said they shared with him “some of the consequences of what’s happening in health care,” such as “the closing of rural hospitals, the fact that so many clinics are closing.&#8221;
“If he will accept some of the things we asked, which we think the American people are for, on healthcare and on recessions, he can avoid a shutdown, but there are still large differences between us,&#8221; Schumer said.
Schumer cited “very large differences” between the parties and said the Republican bill has “not one iota of Democratic input.”
He said it is “up to the Republicans if they want to shut down or not.”
Republicans have <a href="https://appropriations.house.gov/news/press-releases/house-passes-hr-5371-continuing-appropriations-and-extensions-act-2026">reportedly</a> called the continuing resolution &#8220;clean and straightforward.&#8221;
Johnson said Democrats &#8220;refuse to acknowledge the simple facts,&#8221; and called the continuing resolution a &#8220;commonsense thing to do — the right thing to do.&#8221;
The Speaker said Democrats previously issued a counterproposal that included $1.5 trillion in new spending &#8220;that is unrelated to the ongoing appropriations process.&#8221;
&#8220;If the Democrats make the decision to shut the government down, the consequences are on them and I think it&#8217;s absolutely tragic,&#8221; Johnson said.
During the press conference, Thune held up a copy of the continuing resolution, and said it is sitting at the Senate desk, and can be passed Monday night or Tuesday, if Democrats acquiesce.
&#8220;Right now, they are the only thing standing between the American people and the government shutting down,&#8221; Thune said.
Thune said that similar resolutions were passed 13 times when Democrats had the majority.
&#8220;To me, this is purely a hostage-taking exercise on part of the Democrats,&#8221; Thune said. &#8220;We&#8217;re willing to sit down and work with them on some of the issues they want to talk about, whether it&#8217;s the extension of premium tax credits, with reforms, we&#8217;re happy to have that conversation. But as of right now, this is a hijacking of the American people — and it&#8217;s the American people that are going to pay the price.&#8221;
On Sept. 20, Jeffries and Schumer wrote a letter to the president, shared <a href="https://x.com/RepJeffries/status/1969426282552119312">on X</a>, in which they insisted that Democrats will “not support a dirty spending bill that continues the Republican assault on healthcare.”
Jeffries claimed the bill includes “devastating Medicaid and Medicare cuts; skyrocketing premiums, co-pays, and deductibles; the refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits,” and more.
The government is set to shut down Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. if Congress does not approve a continuing resolution.

Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Vice President JD Vance <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1972294333861970197">told</a> host Martha MacCallum there was a series of very complicated ongoing discussions between the Trump administration, Israel, and Arab leaders. He said he was &#8220;cautiously hopeful&#8221; that a deal could be reached. 
“I think the president’s optimism is warranted here. I feel more optimistic about where we are right now than where we have been at any point in the last few months,” he <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1972294333861970197">said</a>. “Our principle here is very simple: we want all the hostages to come home, we want Hamas to no longer be a terror threat to the state of Israel, and we also want to bring the humanitarian aid in Gaza for the many innocent people caught up in the conflict. I think we are close to accomplishing all three objectives.” 
Negotiations from the Trump administration are being headed up by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. 
Speaking at the United Nations last week, Trump said he was “deeply engaged” in seeking a ceasefire in Gaza. Trump tore into nations that have sought recognition of a Palestinian state.
“The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities,&#8221; Trump said. “Instead of giving in to Hamas’s ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message: release the hostages now.” 
About 50 hostages taken from Israel on October 7 remain in Hamas captivity, though only 20 are believed to still be alive.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday aimed at ensuring TikTok becomes “American-operated all the way,” he said.
After months of delaying the enforcement of a law banning TikTok, Trump announced a new framework facilitated by his executive order, which would transfer ownership of the social media platform from China to a group of American investors. Congress passed a law in 2024 to either ban the Chinese-owned TikTok or force its sale due to national security and privacy concerns.
“This is going to be American-operated all the way,” Trump said as he signed the executive order. “I have great respect for President Xi, and I very much appreciate that he approved the deal, because to get it done properly, we really needed the support of China and the approval of China.”
Trump thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for agreeing to the deal. He said some of the investors in the project included Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, entrepreneur Michael Dell, and Rupert Murdoch.
Vice President JD Vance played a key role in negotiating the framework. He said that the deal would allow Americans to use TikTok “with more confidence than they had in the past because their data is going to be secure, and it’s not going to be used as a propaganda weapon against our fellow citizens.”
Vance said that TikTok was valued at around $14 billion and that more details about the specific investors would be revealed in the coming days.
According to the text of the executive order, the framework resolves the national security concerns by removing “the TikTok application and certain other applications from the ‘control’ of a foreign adversary and precludes any ‘operational relationship’ between a formerly affiliated entity controlled by a foreign adversary and the new joint venture.”
It also “prohibits the storage of sensitive United States user data in a manner that would place such data under the control of a foreign adversary and requires such data to be stored in a cloud environment run by an American company.”
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court upheld the law banning TikTok, ruling that it did not violate the First Amendment for Congress to prohibit the application due to national security concerns.

The suspicious man was allegedly falsely <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/armed-man-detained-charlie-kirk-memorial-service-stadium-report-2132909">posing</a> as law enforcement.
&#8220;The U.S. Secret Service in coordination with local law enforcement in Glendale, Arizona, is investigating an individual who was observed exhibiting suspicious behavior at State Farm Stadium,&#8221; Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/charlie-kirk-shooting-investigation-9-20-2025">confirmed</a> to Fox News.
&#8220;The individual was approached by Secret Service and stated during the encounter that he was a member of law enforcement and that he was armed. The individual is not a member of authorized law enforcement working the event and is currently in custody,&#8221; Guglielmi added.
A source told Fox that the man, who has yet to be publicly identified, &#8220;is a former deputy sheriff out of Idaho&#8221; and &#8220;identified himself with expired credentials.&#8221;
&#8220;They are going through his background and trying to figure out what he was up to there,&#8221; the source added.
The event has been designated by the Department of Homeland Security as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1 event, which gives it Super Bowl-level security.
