CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings defended President Donald Trump&#8217;s administration for moving forward with charges against one of the House Democrats involved in a physical scuffle with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents outside a New Jersey detention facility — but CNN host Abby Phillip tried her level best to make the conversation about President Donald Trump instead.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-charge-new-jersey-democrat-over-clash-with-agents-at-ice-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver</a> (D-NJ) stemmed from a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dust-up</a> outside Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, where she was allegedly caught on body-cam video getting physical with federal agents during a protest that also involved two other House Democrats — New Jersey Reps. Bonnie Watson-Coleman and Rob Menendez — and Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. Jennings argued during a Monday panel discussion that Trump&#8217;s Justice Department was well within its rights to level charges against McIver for her actions — but Phillip jumped in to run interference.

Mayor Baraka began the discussion by claiming that he believed the videos would ultimately clear McIver of any wrongdoing, but Jennings was not buying it.
&#8220;I mean, the videos are pretty clear, are they not?&#8221; Jennings asked. &#8220;I mean, she&#8217;s shoving — elbows — pushing, I mean, this is violent activity against law enforcement, is it not?&#8221;
Barak attempted to downplay the scene, saying simply, &#8220;There&#8217;s a lot of pushing and shoving. I don&#8217;t know if —&#8221;
&#8220;Would a regular person, if they came and did that to a federal officer, get away with it?&#8221; Jennings pressed.
&#8220;A regular person —?&#8221; Baraka asked.
&#8220;Just a regular person, a non-politician,&#8221; Jennings clarified.
&#8220;They might get pardoned,&#8221; Phillip interjected, clearly referencing the people Trump pardoned for their involvement in the riots on January 6th, 2021.
&#8220;If they showed up at a federal facility —&#8221; Jennings continued.
&#8220;They might get pardoned,&#8221; Phillip repeated. &#8220;By this president.&#8221;
&#8220;But were they charged?&#8221; Jennings pressed. &#8220;Were they charged? Were they convicted in court? Would a regular person get away with it?&#8221;
Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky then tried to convince Jennings that the video of McIver was not clear, and that he&#8217;d be able to see that if he took off his &#8220;MAGA goggle glasses.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s not a &#8216;cheap fake,&#8217; I can tell you that,&#8221; Jennings said of the body cam footage.

The Department of Justice is reportedly set to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of Ashli Babbitt, who was killed on January 6, 2021, in the U.S. Capitol, for $5 million.
Babbitt’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the federal government last year, seeking $30 million. The Justice Department previously opposed the suit and planned to argue against it in a trial scheduled for July 2026.
Attorneys for the Justice Department and for Babbitt’s family said at a May 2 hearing that they had agreed to a settlement to end the case, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/05/19/ashli-babbitt-lawsuit-settlement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Washington Post</a>. No deal was filed, and U.S. District Court Judge Ana Reyes ordered the parties to update the court about the agreement this coming Thursday, May 22.
The settlement is reportedly an agreement by the Trump administration to pay Babbitt’s family $5 million. Babbitt was fatally shot by a police officer on January 6 after entering the U.S. Capitol.
The Babbitt family is being represented in the case by Judicial Watch, whose president, Tom Fitton, declined to comment on the settlement in a post on X.
“[Judicial Watch] can&#8217;t yet comment on the Ashli Babbitt settlement amount that is being reported because the settlement still hasn&#8217;t been finalized. But I can say, contrary to initial WPOST report, [Judicial Watch] is not getting a third (or any portion) of any settlement. We are representing Ashil&#8217;s family pro bono!” Fitton posted.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia conducted an investigation into Babbitt&#8217;s death, and released its findings in April 2021. Investigators concluded that the police officer who shot Babbitt did not violate federal laws “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
“Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber,” the U.S. attorney’s office <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/department-justice-closes-investigation-death-ashli-babbitt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
President Donald Trump has taken a more sympathetic view of those involved in January 6. On his first day in office, Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/granting-pardons-and-commutation-of-sentences-for-certain-offenses-relating-to-the-events-at-or-near-the-united-states-capitol-on-january-6-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a sweeping clemency order for all of the nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with the Capitol riot. Most received full pardons while over a dozen others had their sentences commuted. Those who had not yet been tried had their cases dropped.

In movies like Enemy of the State, Americans are shown a dystopian world where government surveillance turns ordinary citizens into targets, with shadowy agencies tracking their every move without oversight or accountability. Sadly, this Hollywood nightmare is now reality.
During the Biden administration, federal agencies like the FBI were secretly monitoring law-abiding gun owners through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) — tracking their lawful firearm purchases without a warrant and without ever informing those being monitored. Even Congress was kept in the dark. What once seemed like fiction is now a troubling truth, as the federal government turns its surveillance powers inward against its own people, eroding the freedoms it was meant to protect.
For years, the FBI has been surveilling the gun purchases of thousands of law-abiding citizens using the NICS system. This daily NICS Monitoring program operates without the requirement of a warrant or probable cause, and entirely outside the purview of any court. It enables federal agents to select a target for surveillance and receive a notification every time the victim purchases a firearm. Surveilled Americans have no way of ever knowing they are being tracked.
None of this information is new. Gun Owners of America has reported on the FBI’s NICS Monitoring abuses <a href="https://www.ammoland.com/2024/12/foia-shows-the-extent-of-atf-monitoring-americans-through-fbis-nics-system/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at length</a>, and the FBI’s warrantless surveillance program has been the subject of a years-long Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) lawsuit pitting GOA against a <a href="https://www.gunowners.org/atf-attempts-to-silence-gun-owners-of-america/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">belligerent</a> and uncooperative Department of Justice.
<h3>Ongoing NICS Monitoring Abuses</h3>
Naturally, being free to operate entirely without legal standards or judicial oversight, federal agents have rampantly abused NICS Monitoring, surveilling individuals engaged in all manner of innocuous activities. Without any accountability, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) requested NICS Monitoring of individuals who purchased firearms in response to social unrest, those whose firearm expenditures appeared disproportionate to their income, and even persons who bought and sold firearms as a hobby.
During the Biden administration, federal agents even directed their surveillance toward ordinary Californians — like a modern-day Panopticon, where prison inmates can be secretly watched without knowing when. In a recent <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/political/fbi-weaponizes-background-checks-enforce-california-gun-ban" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FOIA production</a>, GOA discovered that the FBI had been assisting in the enforcement of anti-gun states’ “assault weapons” bans. The FBI actually used NICS Monitoring on one individual for suspected violations of California’s unconstitutional gun regime — despite there being no evidence of any federal wrongdoing.
Thankfully, Pam Bondi’s DOJ recently <a href="https://x.com/GunOwners/status/1915855957927616648" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered the FBI</a> to end the Biden-era practice of using NICS monitoring to help enforce state gun laws. But who knows how long this practice has been occurring? Because with such a low bar for monitoring, perhaps you have also been NICS Monitored, maybe for nothing more than a Facebook comment or a bumper sticker, or attendance at a political rally. Of course, you would never know either way.
<h3>FBI Weaponization Against January 6 Protesters</h3>
Now, GOA has discovered that the FBI’s surveillance program goes further than previously thought. Recently obtained FOIA documents reveal the NICS Monitoring of a person suspected of being present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In fact, in one June 6, 2023 NICS Monitoring submission, an unnamed FBI agent requested NICS Monitoring of an individual’s lawful gun purchases for a period of six months, for several “violations or potential violations” that are common J6 charges:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">18 U.S.C. § 231(a)(3) &#8211; Civil Disorder; </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) and (2) &#8211; Restricted Building or Grounds; </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(E) &#8211; Impeding Passage through the Capitol Grounds or Buildings.</li>
</ul>
Of course, this should come as no surprise. After all, the Biden-era FBI was no stranger to victimizing thousands of Trump supporters associated with January 6. On January 6 itself, the U.S. Capitol was crawling with <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/political/legal-scholar-raises-concerns-over-doj-hiding-fbi-informants-jan-6">FBI informants</a>, seemingly directed to frame those attending the President’s “Save America” rally.
In the days that followed, the FBI <a href="https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/540721-intercept-reporter-fbis-rapid-collection-of-phone-records-after-capitol-riot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aggressively collected</a> cell phone data of those who had been present in Washington, DC, often without a warrant. The FBI even improperly <a href="https://apnews.com/article/justice-department-fbi-surveillance-75c466a64e838ab12eaef96f6335f3cd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accessed</a> information collected under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to target purely domestic persons and activities. And in the twilight hours of the Biden regime, the Department of Justice <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/fbi-searches-alleged-jan-6-rioters-home-ahead-donald-trumps-return-pre-rcna137787" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued to raid</a> suspected January 6ers’ homes, with FBI operations extending well into December of 2024.
But now, the United States has a new Attorney General. And when Pam Bondi took her oath of office, she <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bondi-sworn-attorney-general-mission-end-weaponization-justice-department" target="_blank" rel="noopener">promised</a> to end the rampant “weaponization” of the FBI and to close Biden’s chapter of hyper-partisanship and two-tiered justice for good.
That promise will ring hollow if NICS Monitoring is not dismantled. So long as the mechanism remains in place to surveil gun owners’ lawful purchases — especially with no judicial approval or oversight — there is little stopping a future administration from resuming the abuses of Biden’s FBI.
What once seemed like the stuff of Hollywood thrillers has become a sobering fact of American life. The secret surveillance of lawful gun owners through NICS Monitoring is not just a bureaucratic overreach — it’s a direct assault on the freedoms that define our nation.
To restore trust in our institutions, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel must act swiftly to end warrantless spying on law-abiding gun owners. Americans should not have to live in fear that exercising their rights will land them on a secret government watchlist. We are not characters in a movie — we are citizens of a free republic, and it’s time our government remembered that.

The Jasper County, Indiana, Sheriff&#8217;s Office released dashcam footage on Thursday showing last month&#8217;s traffic stop where a man pardoned by President Donald Trump was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/man-who-received-j6-pardon-shot-and-killed-during-traffic-stop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot and killed</a> during an altercation with a deputy.
Matthew Huttle of Hobart, Indiana — who benefited from Trump&#8217;s sweeping January 6 Capitol riot pardons — allegedly resisted arrest after being pulled over on January 26. Huttle, who was stopped on State Road 14 for driving 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, told the deputy, &#8220;I just want to let you know that I&#8217;m a January 6th defendant,&#8221; according to body cam footage, the Indianapolis Star <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2025/02/27/body-cam-footage-jan-6-defendants-traffic-stop-shooting-death-released-matthew-huttle-jasper-county/80731312007/#body-cam-matthew-huttle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
&#8220;What do you mean?&#8221; the deputy asked.
&#8220;I stormed the Capitol. I&#8217;m waiting on my pardon,&#8221; Huttle replied, adding, &#8220;Yeah, and I can&#8217;t really afford to get into any trouble right now.&#8221;
He then admitted to driving without a license. Informed that his felony offense requires that the officer transport him to jail, Huttle said, &#8220;I can&#8217;t do it. No, I can&#8217;t go to jail for this, sir.&#8221;
The bodycam footage appears to have been taken down by YouTube. Dashcam <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-B64wlUUOs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">footage</a> of the incident is still on the platform and shows Huttle sprinting to the driver&#8217;s side door and reaching into the vehicle.

The Clinton County, Indiana, Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and said that the deputy chased Huttle before a struggle ensued. After jumping into the car, Huttle allegedly raised a gun and said, &#8220;I&#8217;m shooting myself.&#8221; The prosecutor&#8217;s office <a href="https://www.in.gov/sheriffs/jasper/files/Jasper-County-OIS-Final-Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">concluded</a> that the officer &#8220;was legally justified in using deadly force to defend himself.&#8221;
&#8220;Believing that Huttle posed a deadly threat, the Deputy fired multiple shots, striking Huttle. The Deputy then retreated to his vehicle and awaited backup. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but Huttle was pronounced deceased at the scene,&#8221; the prosecutor&#8217;s office said.
During the traffic stop, Huttle &#8220;was found to be a Habitual Traffic Violator,&#8221; a felony under Indiana law, according to the prosecutor&#8217;s office. The 42-year-old Indiana man previously spent time behind bars for a driving offense.
Shortly after being released from jail for his previous offense, Huttle attended the rally at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. He later pled guilty to entering a restricted building after being inside the U.S. Capitol for 16 minutes. Huttle&#8217;s defense attorney, Andrew Hemmer, said that his client was “not a true believer in any political cause” but was only at the Trump rally that day “because he thought it would be a historic moment and he had nothing better to do after getting out of jail.”

Enrique Tarrio, the former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/proud-boys" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Proud Boys</a> leader who was facing decades behind bars, spoke out on Tuesday, after President Donald Trump pardoned him and nearly all other J6 defendants hours into Trump&#8217;s second term.
Tarrio was prosecuted by the Biden DOJ and convicted of the rare and serious charge of seditious conspiracy for supposed J6 involvement, though he was not even in Washington, D.C., on the day of the breach. In 2023, Tarrio was <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/proud-boys-leader-sentenced-22-years-prison-seditious-conspiracy-and-other-charges" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sentenced</a> to 22 years in prison.
&#8220;As my first tweet I have to give thanks to the many people that made this happen, my life was given back to me after their persistence and resilience,&#8221; he posted on X. &#8220;They didn’t do it for any other reason than love for me and this amazing country we live in.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to thank God, because through Him ALL things are possible,&#8221; Tarrio said. &#8220;In Exodus Chapter 15, Verse 3, it describes God as a Man of War. He certainly showed that with us and through His guidance of President Trump. To Him all the glory!&#8221;
Tarrio was released from prison last week and met up with his family in Miami wearing a black &#8220;Make America Great Again&#8221; hat.
&#8220;I&#8217;m just happy that Trump kept his promises,&#8221; Tarrio <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ex-proud-boys-leader-enrique-tarrio-back-home-trumps-jan-6-clemency-rcna188841" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the press after he landed at Miami International Airport. &#8220;If we would have gotten a fair trial, I wouldn&#8217;t have been in a position where I needed a pardon.&#8221;

Since Tarrio was not in D.C. at the time of the breach, the government argued that he was a leader and not a foot soldier, calling him “intelligent, charming, creative, and articulate,” and claiming that he used those talents to “inflame and radicalize an untold number of followers.”
The government relied heavily on private communication from J6 defendants to try to make their case. Notably, the DOJ highlighted a document outlining a Capitol takeover that was sent to Tarrio on social media platform Telegram called “<a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/04/26/proud-boys-leader-verdict-jan-6-00093891">1776 Returns</a>,&#8221; though Tarrio did not directly respond to the sent document and claims he never even saw it, let alone opened it.
Tarrio&#8217;s first post on X also thanked his family, specifically his mother Zuny Tarrio, whom he called a &#8220;warrior,&#8221; his fiancée, and many others, including fellow J6 defendants.
Tarrio called Zachary Rehl and Ethan Nordean his &#8220;brothers&#8221; and thanked them for standing &#8220;their ground in the face of decades in prison.&#8221; Rehl and Nordean were also convicted of the rare seditious conspiracy charge. Tarrio noted that Rehl missed the birth if his daughter &#8220;because of the wicked DOJ.&#8221; 
&#8220;A special place is reserved for Joe Biggs, who is currently STILL under restrictions because of a corrupt probation office that is defying the ORDERS from [Presidnet Donald Trump],&#8221; Tarrio said. Biggs, too, was convicted of sedition conspiracy. &#8220;He is not able to talk to us or use the internet. He cannot give interviews about his harrowing treatment at the hands of the [Federal Bureau of Prisons]. Joe is not new to being an American Hero. He is a two-time Purple Heart recipient and has served his country faithfully.&#8221;

A 42-year-old Indiana man who was pardoned by President Donald Trump last week —after entering the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021 — was shot and killed during a traffic stop on Sunday afternoon.
Matthew Huttle of Hobart, Indiana, allegedly resisted arrest and got into an &#8220;altercation&#8221; with a Jasper County Sheriff’s Department deputy, according to authorities, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/indiana-man-killed-trump-pardon-matthew-huttle-8c674e76c8e3c5ef1610ed29d0669050" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Indiana State Police said that after Huttle was pulled over, &#8220;an altercation took place between the suspect and the officer, which resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect.&#8221;
Huttle was in possession of a firearm when he was pulled over, the state police said. Authorities did not say why Huttle was pulled over or what led to the confrontation. The officer who shot Huttle has been placed on leave as authorities investigate the fatal shooting.
Huttle&#8217;s attorney, Nick Barnes — who was representing the 42-year-old in multiple pending motor vehicle cases — said he did not know what led to the shooting, according to the AP. Huttle previously spent time behind bars for a driving offense.
In 2023, Huttle pled guilty to entering a restricted building after he was in the U.S. Capitol for 16 minutes on January 6, 2021. Defense attorney Andrew Hemmer said that Huttle was &#8220;not a true believer in any political cause,&#8221; but was only at the Trump rally that day &#8220;because he thought it would be a historic moment and he had nothing better to do after getting out of jail.&#8221;
Huttle, and his uncle, Dale Huttle, were two of the roughly 1,500 people who received pardons from Trump last week after being charged in the January 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-issues-full-pardon-to-nearly-all-j6-defendants-could-be-released-from-prison-tonight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> his executive order granting pardons to nearly all the defendants charged in relation to the Capitol breach just hours after taking office.
“This proclamation ends a grave national injustice that has been perpetrated upon the American people over the last four years and begins a process of national reconciliation,” the order states.

William Shipley, an attorney representing dozens of J6 defendants, including the so-called <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/qanon-shaman-jacob-chansley-has-mind-bending-chat-with-michael-knowles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Qanon Shaman</a>, told The Daily Wire this week that President Donald Trump&#8217;s sweeping action for J6 defendants, even for those accused of violence, was necessary due to the Biden DOJ&#8217;s refusal to give the accused fair trials. 
Trump&#8217;s executive <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/granting-pardons-and-commutation-of-sentences-for-certain-offenses-relating-to-the-events-at-or-near-the-united-states-capitol-on-january-6-2021/">order</a>, which was signed just hours after Trump was sworn into office, granted full pardons for every person convicted in relation to J6, with the exception of 14 commutations. The EO also ordered dismissals for the hundreds of cases awaiting trial or sentencing.
“ I have said this publicly, I have filed this argument, I have argued it in court to multiple judges: the reality is that January 6 defendants could not receive a fair trial in the District of Columbia given the juror pool,&#8221; Shipley told The Daily Wire. 
&#8220;The government never moved off of that position, and demanded that the cases go forward in the District of Columbia, knowing that to be true, which is reflected by the fact that so many defendants opted for bench trials to avoid the D.C. jurors,&#8221; the attorney continued. &#8220;I mean, that speaks volumes.&#8221;
 J6 defendants &#8220;could not get their 5th and 6th Amendment rights to a fair trial in the District of Columbia,&#8221; which &#8220;justifies the pardons,&#8221; Shipley said. &#8220;The Biden Justice Department has themselves to blame for that fact.&#8221;

On Monday evening, Trump reasoned that the J6 defendants accused of violence have already done their time.
“I will say this, they’ve been in jail for a long time already,&#8221; the president <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWOEIdnb7vQ" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the press. &#8220;I see murderers in this country get two years, one year, and maybe no time. So they&#8217;ve already been in jail for a long time. These people have been destroyed, what they&#8217;ve done to these people is outrageous.”
Shipley noted former President Joe Biden&#8217;s last-minute pardons for his family members and the dozens of controversial commutations for violent death row inmates in context with Trump&#8217;s sweeping J6 pardons.
&#8220;I think after the Biden administration did what they did with just the massive pardons on their way out the door &#8212; I don&#8217;t know that that had any actual influence on what the Trump administration decided to do, but I don&#8217;t think anybody was really anticipating a sweeping set of pardons and commutations of sentences to time served across the board, resulting in the release of everybody.&#8221;
The attorney told The Daily Wire that there were 211 J6ers in custody at the time Trump&#8217;s executive order was signed. They are all now out of custody, despite some delays.
When Shipley was contacted by his clients&#8217; family about delays, he said he was able to get in touch with Trump administration officials who helped to quickly secure releases. However, that was not the case in Washington D.C., where the longest delays took place.
&#8220;Now there is the problem in D.C. that has persisted until just the last hour or so where the District of Columbia Department of Corrections, which is not part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, they did not respond in the same way and they just said, &#8216;Well, we&#8217;ll do it tomorrow,'&#8221; Shipley said on Tuesday.

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) rebuffed a reporter hounding her over President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-issues-full-pardon-to-nearly-all-j6-defendants-could-be-released-from-prison-tonight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sweeping January 6 pardons</a>.
Hours after being sworn into office, Trump signed an executive order pardoning nearly all individuals charged with J6-related crimes.
&#8220;Is this all you&#8217;re really talking about, is the J6ers have been pardoned?&#8221; MTG asked the reporter, to which the reporter responded, &#8220;Yeah.&#8221;
&#8220;Okay, are you gonna talk about the Biden family that got pardoned? No?&#8221; Greene continued to push. &#8220;I haven&#8217;t &#8211;,&#8221; the reporter replied.
To much controversy, former President Joe Biden pardoned five members of his family with only minutes left of his time in office.
&#8220;Okay, what about the rapers [sic], killers, and murders that Joe Biden pardoned &#8212; there are tons of them &#8212; is that a focus at all?&#8221; Greene once again asked, only to receive a response that the reporter was focused on the J6 issue.
In late December, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-commutes-sentences-of-dozens-of-murderers-two-days-before-christmas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commuted the death sentences</a> of dozens of convicted killers, including a man who murdered a police officer and a man who kidnapped and murdered a 12-year-old girl.
&#8220;I know what you&#8217;re asking about &#8212; I&#8217;m not doing this,&#8221; Greene told the reporter. &#8220;This insane place up here, and all of y&#8217;all&#8217;s obsession with January 6 is absurd. Everybody outside of here is sick and f***ing tired of it. I&#8217;m serious.&#8221;

&#8220;We express our gratitude to President Biden for recognizing that we and our families have been continuously targeted not only with harassment, lies, and threats of criminal violence but also with specific threats of criminal prosecution and imprisonment by members of the incoming administration, simply for doing our jobs and upholding our oath of office,&#8221; the pair said, adding, &#8220;We have been pardoned today not for breaking the law but for upholding it.&#8221;

Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) complained on Tuesday that Pam Bondi, President Donald Trump&#8217;s nominee to serve as attorney general, had not reviewed each individual case prior to Trump pardoning the vast majority of those charged with January 6-related crimes.

But then a few noted that Bondi had only answered questions in the committee hearing regarding what she would do if confirmed to serve as the 87th U.S. Attorney General — and because members of his party had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-democrats-put-arbitrary-hold-on-pam-bondi-nomination" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arbitrarily delayed</a> the vote that would move her nomination forward out of committee, she had not yet even had a full vote in the Senate.
&#8220;Per Judiciary Committee <a href="https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/about/committee/rules" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rule</a> I.3, any member of the Committee may request an item on the Committee’s agenda be held over for a minimum of seven days. Holds are common practice in the Senate Judiciary Committee,&#8221; a notice issued on Wednesday by the committee read. &#8220;Pursuant to this rule, the Minority will hold Bondi’s nomination for seven days. As a result of this hold, which goes into effect tomorrow, the Committee will not meet in person for this week’s executive business meeting.&#8221;
A Judiciary Committee vote on whether or not to move Bondi&#8217;s nomination to the full Senate is now scheduled to take place on January 29th.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> called out a reporter on Tuesday for bias over hyper-focusing on the pardons that he issued this week while ignoring the pardons and commutations issued by former President Joe Biden during the final moments of his failed presidency.
Trump said that he was not aware of the specific details of the pardon that the reporter was asking about, after he pardoned or commuted the sentences of approximately 1,500 the night before, but said that he would look into it.
The president then highlighted how George Soros-backed district attorneys around the country have often let some of the most violent offenders off the hook.
&#8220;These people have already served years in prison,&#8221; Trump said of the January 6 defendants whom he pardoned. &#8220;And they&#8217;ve served them viciously. It&#8217;s a disgusting prison. It&#8217;s been horrible. It&#8217;s inhumane. It&#8217;s been a terrible, terrible thing.&#8221;

Some January 6 defendants were reportedly not released from a Washington, D.C. jail on Monday night, following President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-issues-full-pardon-to-nearly-all-j6-defendants-could-be-released-from-prison-tonight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sweeping Executive Order</a> offering full pardons, dismissals, or commutations to nearly all defendants.
A White House liaison showed up at the jail late Monday and said two brothers, Andrew Valentin, 26, and Matthew Valentin, 31, had been released, per Trump&#8217;s order.
However, people gathered outside the jail said there were other defendants still inside:

A possible explanation was posted on X by WUSA 9 investigative reporter Jordan Fischer. Basically, Trump&#8217;s order gave full pardons to almost everyone convicted of J6-related crimes. However, if someone is in jail and still awaiting trial, their case, per the order, will be dismissed. The dismissal of such cases could take longer to process, according to Fischer.

The explanation might follow with some defendants still awaiting trial, but numerous reports online say convicted J6 defendants&#8217; release are still being delayed, too.
Here&#8217;s the language from Trump&#8217;s executive order about such cases: &#8220;I further direct the Attorney General to pursue dismissal with prejudice to the government of all pending indictments against individuals for their conduct related to the events at or near the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Bureau of Prisons shall immediately implement all instructions from the Department of Justice regarding this directive.&#8221;

Utah Sen. Mike Lee (R), though, has excoriated the D.C. jail for not releasing all defendants immediately. Lee said he&#8217;s working to verify why the delay is happening, and said D.C.&#8217;s &#8220;<a href="https://wamu.org/story/24/11/15/friday-chat-dc-home-rule/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Home Rule</a>&#8221; should be repealed.
“Last night, from what we can tell, after Trump issued a pardon for a number of prisoners involved with January 6th, there were only two released last night,&#8221; Lee said. &#8220;I spoke to someone last night who had gone down personally to the D.C. jail, saw that only two of them had been released, and jail officials at the D. C. jail announced that they wouldn&#8217;t be releasing any more last night.&#8221;
&#8220;Now, this is not hard, Glenn,&#8221; Lee continued. &#8220;They have names, and they have pardons. They can identify those prisoners who have been pardoned. Trump&#8217;s directive was that they were to be released immediately, as one should when one sees that somebody has been pardoned, [yet] they still weren&#8217;t out.&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re still trying to get names, numbers, and verify how this is happening,&#8221; Lee added. &#8220;But from what we can tell, they haven&#8217;t complied with it yet.&#8221;
