Graham Linehan is a comedian and comedy writer who was just arrested in the UK — for his tweets.
Unfortunately, this is not uncommon in the UK. In mid-August, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/19/world-news/uk-free-speech-struggle-30-arrests-a-day-censorship/">titled an article</a>, “UK free speech crackdown sees up to 30 people a day arrested for petty offenses such as retweets and cartoons.” The Post wrote:
<blockquote>Bernadette Spofforth lay in jail on a blue gym mattress in a daze, finding it difficult to move, even breathe. “I just closed down. But the other half of my brain went into Jack Reacher mode,” she said, referring to the fictional action hero. “Every single detail was in this very vivid, bright, sharp focus.”
She remembers noticing that you can’t drown yourself in the toilet, because there’s no standing water in it and the flush button is too far to reach if your head were in the bowl. She’d end up being detained for 36 hours in July 2024. Three girls had just been <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/20/world-news/uk-teen-pleads-guilty-to-murder-of-three-girls-at-taylor-swift-themed-dance-party/">murdered in Southport</a>, England, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party. But Spofforth was not under suspicion for the crime.
Instead, horrified, and in the fog of a developing tragedy, she’d reposted on X another user’s content blaming newly arrived migrants for the ghastly crime — clarifying in her retweet, “If this is true.” Hours later she realized she may have received bad information and deleted the post — but it had already been seen thousands of times. &#8230;
Her story is one repeated almost hourly in the UK, where data suggests <a href="https://freespeechunion.org/police-make-30-arrests-a-day-for-offensive-online-messages/">over 30 people a day are arrested</a> for speech crimes, about 12,000 a year, under laws written well before the age of social media that make crimes of sending “grossly offensive” messages or sharing content of an “indecent, obscene or menacing character.”</blockquote>
Four police vehicles arrived at her home days later.
Linehan <a href="https://grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/i-just-got-arrested-again">wrote on</a> Substack:
<blockquote>The moment I stepped off the plane at Heathrow, five armed police officers were waiting. Not one, not two—five. They escorted me to a private area and told me I was under arrest for three tweets. In a country where paedophiles escape sentencing, where knife crime is out of control, where women are assaulted and harassed every time they gather to speak, the state had mobilised five armed officers to arrest a comedy writer for this tweet (and no, I promise you, I am not making this up.)</blockquote>
The tweet read: “If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the ba**s.”
Linehan was arrested for that tweet. He was also arrested for another tweet in which there was a gigantic trans protest in London, of which he tweeted a photo, captioned, “A photo you can smell,” followed by a tweet in which he wrote, “I hate them. Misogynists and homophobes. F*** em.”
“At Heathrow police station, my belt, bag, and devices were confiscated,” he wrote. “Then I was shown into a small green-tiled cell with a bunk, a silver toilet in the corner and a message from Crimestoppers on the ceiling next to a concave mirror that was presumably there to make you reflect on your life choices. &#8230; At one point, I said ‘I bet I know who made this complaint. Lindsay Watson’ (demented ex-copper troon who was fired for his online conduct). Then, lo-and-behold, one of my lawyers sent me this reply to the ‘bollocks’ tweet.”
The reply stated, “That weird ex-copper claims he has reported this to police and is trying to get other troons to do so. Just FYI.”

It&#8217;s not just that these folks in the UK are interested in tearing away free speech and saying you’re not allowed to tweet a bad thing, that bad tweets might land you in jail: They are importing people from parts of the planet who hate and despise all of the centralizing Western principles, such as free speech.
I write in “Lions And Scavengers” about the coalition of scavengers, about the idea that you have barbarians — the people from outside who hate our civilization — who join forces with the lechers inside our civilization who believe that they are marginalized by our traditional institutions and values, and then they make common cause together. 
That&#8217;s the UK in a nutshell.
It is no coincidence that on Tuesday, the Home Secretary of the UK, Yvette Cooper, said that the UK is going to take in refugees from Gaza. She stated:

We have done the same for all the Chevening scholars and are now in the process of doing so for the next group of students from Gaza who have been awarded fully funded scholarships and places at UK universities so that they can start their studies in autumn this year.
Later this year, we will set out plans to establish a permanent framework for refugee students to come and study in the UK so that we can help more talented young people fleeing war and persecution to find a better future, alongside capped and managed ways for refugees to work here in the UK.</blockquote>
Congrats to the people of Great Britain. They don&#8217;t just have to contend with the insanity inside their borders, but out of some sort of misplaced sympathy, they are going to be importing people who almost certainly do not share their values.
There are plenty of other countries on planet Earth that are more akin ideologically and culturally to the people of Gaza, but according to the wonderful folks in the UK, those countries don’t exist.
There&#8217;s been some opposition within Westminster to taking in refugees from Gaza.
Conservative shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick expressed apprehension at the idea of resettling Palestinians in the UK. He wrote in The Telegraph, “The truth is that Gaza&#8217;s Arab neighbors are prepared to offer humanitarian support, but consider the idea of inviting Gazans into the country at any scale a risk only a fool would take.”
Which, of course, is true.
This is a misapplied sense of guilt directed at the Third World by the Labor Party in the UK, a belief that in the oppressor/oppressed matrix, the UK is an oppressor; Israel is an oppressor; the people of Gaza are the oppressed, and therefore the people of the UK must accept people who believe that Western civilization is in and of itself wrong and terrible.
As a side note, we should point out at this point here that Qatar — which is essentially Hamas with nicer suits — owns much of London.

Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton said on Tuesday that he is seeking the arrest of Democrat Robert Francis &#8220;Beto&#8221; O&#8217;Rourke over O&#8217;Rourke&#8217;s alleged violation of a court order requiring him to stop fundraising for the AWOL Texas Democrats.
Paxton <a href="https://x.com/KenPaxtonTX/status/1955295153079586937">accused</a> O&#8217;Rourke of &#8220;blatantly&#8221; violating a temporary restraining order &#8220;by continuing to fundraise and pay for the personal expenses of runaway Democrat legislators.&#8221; Last week, Tarrant County, Texas, District Court Judge Megan Fahey <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-election/beto-orourke-blocked-financially-supporting-texas-democrats-fled-state-rcna224002">barred</a> O&#8217;Rourke and his political group, Powered by People, from funding the group of 50 Democrats who fled the state to stop a vote on a GOP-backed Congressional map.
Paxton alleges that O&#8217;Rourke violated the restraining order immediately after it was issued by telling a crowd of supporters that he would continue fundraising for the runaway Democrats. O&#8217;Rourke also told the crowd that Democrats should “f*** the rules” and “win whatever it takes,&#8221; calling on Democrat-led states to redraw Congressional maps to take seats away from Republicans, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/f-the-rules-beto-goes-off-the-rails-says-dems-will-win-whatever-it-takes">reported</a>.
&#8220;There are no refs in this game, f*** the rules, we are going to win whatever it takes. We’re going to take this to him in every way that we can,&#8221; O&#8217;Rourke said.
In a press release, Paxton said that O&#8217;Rourke &#8220;is wrong on both counts.&#8221;
&#8220;There is a referee—the Honorable Megan Fahey—and there are rules—namely, that a person violating a temporary restraining order can be fined up to $500 and jailed for up to six months,&#8221; the Texas attorney general added. &#8220;Given Robert Francis&#8217;s vulgar disdain for the rule of law and immense personal wealth, imprisonment is absolutely necessary to persuade him to obey the lawful restraining order issued by the Tarrant County court.&#8221;

Paxton launched an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beto-orourke-led-group-under-investigation-over-potential-bribes-to-help-runaway-texas-dems">investigation</a> into O&#8217;Rourke&#8217;s group last week after it was reported that Powered by People was bankrolling the Texas Democrats who shirked their responsibilities in the state House and fled to Illinois to block a vote on the new Congressional map. The group of Democrats faces a daily $500 fine, along with living expenses in Illinois.
Powered by People <a href="https://poweredxpeople.org/what-we-do/">focuses</a> on organizing volunteers to help Democrats win elections in “competitive Texas battleground districts.” The leftist group says it is also “focused on creating long-term changes to the Texas electorate that will outlast any one candidate or campaign cycle.”
The Democratic legislators <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/texas-democrats-illinois-vow-stay-special-session-ends-despite-st-charles-bomb-threat-greg-abbotts-arrests/17504587/">remain</a> out of the state this week, defying last Friday&#8217;s deadline that Speaker of the Texas House Dustin Burrows put in place for their return. The Democrats vowed to stay out of Texas past the 30-day special session, but Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abbott-vows-to-hold-special-sessions-in-texas-for-years-until-delinquent-dems-return">said</a> on Sunday that he would continue to call special sessions.
“I’m authorized to call a special session every 30 days. It lasts 30 days. And as soon as this one is over, I’m gonna call another one, then another one, then another one, then another one,” the governor said.
“If they show back up in the state of Texas, they will be arrested and taken to the capitol. If they want to evade that arrest, they’re gonna have to stay outside of the state of Texas for literally years,” he added. “They might as well just start voting in California or voting in Illinois, wherever they may be.”

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will head back to court in the fall as a federal judge has set a date for his sentencing. The rapper’s defense attorneys originally petitioned for expedited sentencing, but have since agreed to the original proposed date.
Court documents confirmed that the 55-year-old rap artist will face sentencing on October 3 after being found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
The Bad Boy Records founder’s attorney submitted a petition to have his client released on a $1 million bond, but that was turned down and Combs will remain incarcerated until the sentencing date. People <a href="https://people.com/diddy-sentencing-oct-3-11761014">noted</a> that the rapper will likely be credited for time served for the amount of time he spends behind bars.
The outlet further noted that the government is seeking to sentence Combs to between 51 and 63 months in jail. The defense is seeking a 21 to 27 month sentence. If he had been convicted of all charges, the rapper could have been facing life in prison.
The federal investigation into Combs gained national attention earlier this year when raids on his Los Angeles and Miami properties yielded large amounts of electronic devices, reportedly containing potential evidence connected to the charges. Prosecutors alleged that Combs orchestrated a network of parties and events where women were trafficked and abused. Meanwhile, the rapper claimed that his sexual exploits were unorthodox but fully consensual.
Beyond the courtroom, the fallout has already impacted Combs’ vast business empire. This has led to speculation about whether his music legacy can survive the scandal.
The upcoming sentencing hearing is expected to draw intense media coverage as observers watch to see whether one of the entertainment world’s biggest moguls will ultimately face significant prison time or be let off easy. Many critics are already furious that Combs was acquitted of the more serious charges. 
After the verdict was delivered, Combs appeared to celebrate the jury’s decision that acquitted him on the most serious charges. He raised his hands in a prayer motion and then hugged one of his defense attorneys, Teny Geragos.
His lawyer also said Diddy received a standing ovation from fellow inmates following the conclusion of the trial.

The family of 20-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/devastated-family-awaits-sentencing-of-suspected-illegal-immigrant-charged-in-fatal-hit-and-run" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Archuleta</a>, who was hit and killed by a vehicle last November, remains distraught on Monday after a judge went easy on the 41-year-old suspected illegal immigrant who was behind the wheel.
North Carolina Superior Court Judge Tiffany Powers sentenced Maria Concepcion Cardona Alejo to just 120 days in jail, Brunswick County Assistant District Attorney Shirley Smircic confirmed in a statement to The Daily Wire. The judge, a <a href="https://www.robesonian.com/news/129298/powers-resigns-as-chairperson-of-elections-board" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Democrat</a>, could have sentenced Alejo to up to 29 months behind bars, but opted for 120 days in jail and 36 months of supervised probation after the jail stint, which begins on Monday.
Alejo pleaded guilty to the fatal hit-and-run and driving without a license.
Archuleta&#8217;s mother Emily Carpenter told The Daily Wire shortly after the sentencing that &#8220;it&#8217;s unjust.&#8221;
&#8220;Like I said before, I have a life sentence. She gets to go home in 120 days,&#8221; Carpenter said. &#8220;My son&#8217;s birthday is next month; he would&#8217;ve been 21.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m just numb from this,&#8221; she added.
The 120-day sentence means Alejo will be out of jail on December 23, just in time for Christmas. The suspected illegal immigrant gave no statement in court and did not offer an apology to Archuleta&#8217;s family before she was sentenced, according to Carpenter.

Archuleta, who was developmentally delayed, was riding his bike home after spending time with a friend when he was struck and killed by Alejo. Archuleta&#8217;s body wasn&#8217;t found until the next day, and Alejo was arrested three days after the accident. She posted bail a few hours after being detained.
Alejo broke the law at least seven times between 2009 and 2021 for driving without a license, and was slapped with small fines for the infractions. Carpenter previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/devastated-family-awaits-sentencing-of-suspected-illegal-immigrant-charged-in-fatal-hit-and-run">told</a> The Daily Wire that it’s “not fair” that her son — who had recently scheduled an appointment to get his driver’s license — was killed by an illegal immigrant repeatedly charged with unlicensed driving.
According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s booking report, Alejo is a Mexican national. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesman told The Daily Wire that he could not confirm if Alejo is in the United States illegally because she was bailed out of jail in November before ICE could issue a detainer request. In order for ICE to issue a detainer, a suspect must be interviewed by an agent in person to determine his or her status.
Carpenter said that even if Alejo is deported following her sentence, it won&#8217;t give the family any closure because &#8220;she&#8217;s just going to make her way back.&#8221;

Following Alejo&#8217;s sentencing, Archuleta&#8217;s sister, Angel, wrote on Facebook, &#8220;Today [Alejo] got off on a guilty plea after we were told there was no chance of a plea deal, 120 days in jail and then probation for killing my 20 year old brother and admitting she saw him on his bike, still hit him and left him there because she had to go to work.&#8221;
&#8220;Our system and government in North Carolina and Brunswick county is truly corrupt and backward,&#8221; she added. &#8220;To sweep the case and string our family along for almost a whole year just for the court to laugh in our face and give her yet another slap on the wrist for breaking multiple laws as well as lying under oath in the court.&#8221;

The defense attorney for rapper Young Thug was held in contempt of court and arrested in Fulton County, Georgia, on Monday after he refused to reveal information he obtained about an ex parte meeting held in the judge&#8217;s chambers between the prosecution and a key witness.
Attorney Brian Steel got into a heated exchange with Judge Ural Glanville after Steel revealed information about a private meeting between the judge, the state, and a key witness, 11 Alive <a href="https://www.11alive.com/article/news/crime/ysl-trial/young-thug-lawyer-brian-steel-taken-into-custody-held-in-contempt/85-47a2aceb-0eb7-467a-ae57-30ac94a3a635" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, is in the middle of what has already been the <a href="https://www.ajc.com/news/crime/young-thug-trial-longest-in-georgia-history-started-one-year-ago-today/RLQKG42ZHFGABLSBUHJ5HBNTZM/#:~:text=Selecting%20a%20jury%20took%2010,state%20trial%20in%20Georgia's%20history." target="_blank" rel="noopener">longest trial</a> in Georgia history. Young Thug was indicted with 27 others in the spring of 2022 on allegations that he leads the YSL street gang, which investigators have tied to drug deals, drive-by shootings, and the deaths of at least three people in Atlanta.
Along with gun and drug charges, the rapper was charged with violating Georgia&#8217;s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) — the same charges leveled against former President Donald Trump, who is also being prosecuted in Fulton County.
Steel motioned for a mistrial, telling Judge Glanville that he received information about the ex parte meeting, which means it was done outside of the presence of opposing counsel, excluding the rapper&#8217;s defense team. The attorney alleged that during the meeting, the judge and district attorney&#8217;s office convinced Kenneth &#8220;YSL Woody&#8221; Copeland to testify. Copeland was previously held in contempt and arrested after pleading the fifth during testimony last week, but during the ex parte meeting, Copeland allegedly admitted to killing Donovan &#8220;Nut&#8221; Thomas Jr, who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.
&#8220;I need you to tell me how you got the information [about the meeting],&#8221; Judge Glanville told Steel. &#8220;If you don&#8217;t tell me how you got the information, I&#8217;m going to hold you in contempt.&#8221;
&#8220;I understand. I don&#8217;t want to be held in contempt,&#8221; Steel replied.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t want to hold you in contempt, but this is so sacrosanct to have a conversation in my chambers parrotted to you and others,&#8221; the judge added. &#8220;It is that serious.&#8221;
Steel agreed with the judge about the seriousness of the meeting, adding, &#8220;That&#8217;s why we should&#8217;ve been there.&#8221; He also asked why the meeting with a witness would be held ex parte.

Judge Glanville then again asked Steel to reveal how he obtained information about the meeting with the state and Copeland, but the defense attorney refused, arguing that he isn&#8217;t permitted to disclose his source.
&#8220;Well, I&#8217;m gonna hold you in contempt,&#8221; the judge said. &#8220;And you can think about it — 5 o&#8217;clock today we&#8217;ll see where you stand on that point.&#8221;

Four inmates have escaped from a jail in Amite, Louisiana, including three accused of breaking into a home and killing a father and shooting his 12-year-old daughter.
Two of the escaped men have already been caught, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office <a href="https://www.facebook.com/tpsosheriff/posts/pfbid035ro9P86bdTkJWvmpKqMw3ei7CAaMXS6GKBANUS7QCcZNEmWuotJNQw6hotA3kXwol" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The sheriff’s office said that the four men escaped from the local jail on Sunday evening during their recreation time in the yard. The TPSO said the four men were able to escape through a section of the perimeter fence that was “found to be vulnerable and easily maneuvered in such a way that a small statured body could slide through.”
The four escapees were identified as Omarion Hookfin, 19; Avery Guidry, 19; Jamarcus Cyprian, 20; and Tra&#8217;von Johnson, 21.
Guidry, Hookfin, and Johnson were arrested in 2022 for their alleged roles in a homicide. WWL-TV <a href="https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/crime/two-people-arrested-connected-deadly-home-invasion/289-49acdd29-d389-469d-8c78-69ded4d8c201" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time that the three allegedly broke into a home in Hammond, Louisiana, on September 13, 2022, and shot and killed Donte Perry. The group also allegedly shot Perry’s 12-year-old daughter at least 10 times, the outlet reported.
The fourth escapee, Cyprian, was serving time for armed robbery and weapons charges, the sheriff’s office reported.
On Monday, Chief Jimmy Travis of the TPSO told reporters on Monday that the jail didn’t know the men escaped until a family member of one of the escapees called Sunday afternoon saying Guidry and Johnson had appeared at their home asking for a place to stay.
Johnson and Guidry were found hiding in a dumpster behind a Dollar General and taken into custody, after police received a tip from someone who saw the pair.

Trump was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-hits-trump-with-fines-threatens-jail-time-over-gag-order" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fined</a> $9,000 by Merchan last week after the judge said the former president spoke about people involved in the trial on nine separate occasions, mostly in posts on his social media platform Truth Social. He was then fined another $1,000 on Monday for another Truth Social post.
The prosecution said on Monday that the hush-money trial could last another two to three weeks, which would force Trump to remain in the Manhattan courtroom for four days a week until the end of May.
&#8220;So, we just found out the government just said that they want two to three more weeks. That means they want to keep me off the trail for two to three more weeks,&#8221; Trump said. &#8220;The judge is so happy about two to three more weeks because they all want to keep me off the campaign trail. That&#8217;s all this is about. This is about election interference.&#8221;
The Republican presidential candidate is facing 34 felony charges as Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleges that Trump falsified business records to cover up an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels. Trump denies all of the allegations, arguing that the trial is a political &#8220;witch hunt&#8221; and &#8220;election interference.&#8221;
