While Democratic socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani used America&#8217;s 250th birthday to criticize capitalism, ICE, and what he described as an &#8220;arena of supremacy,&#8221; his wife, Rama Duwaji, spent the nation&#8217;s milestone celebration thousands of miles away at a luxury Islamic spiritual retreat in Spain.
Duwaji departed from Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this week for Mallorca, a Mediterranean island off of the western coast of Spain.
Far from simply vacationing abroad, Duwaji is serving as the artist-in-residence and one of the featured hosts for the sold-out Women&#8217;s Sanctuary retreat. Attendance costs roughly $3,400 per guest. The <a href="https://thewomensanctuary.com/retreats">program</a> centers on &#8220;Plants of the Quran&#8221; through art, botanical workshops, and Islamic spiritual reflection. She is also scheduled to help host a second sold-out retreat in Corsica later this month exploring &#8220;Mary in the Quran.&#8221;

The timing of the trip drew criticism as Americans celebrated the nation&#8217;s 250th anniversary over the Fourth of July weekend. Republican New York City Councilwoman Joann Ariola told the <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/04/us-news/mamdanis-wife-rama-duwaji-ditches-america-250-bash-for-islamic-spiritual-wellness-retreat-in-spain/">New York Post</a> the decision reflected poorly on the city&#8217;s first family. &#8220;Nothing says &#8216;America 250&#8217; quite like skipping the celebration for a Mediterranean vacation,&#8221; Ariola said. &#8220;I am not surprised because she has made her hatred for America very evident.&#8221;
Councilman Frank Morano similarly criticized the optics, &#8220;it&#8217;s disappointing that the First Lady chose to be overseas instead of taking part in one of the biggest civic events our city and country will mark this year,&#8221; Morano said. &#8220;No one is saying elected officials and their families can&#8217;t take vacations, but this was a moment to show up for the city and for the country.&#8221;
The Mayor&#8217;s Office declined to respond directly to the criticism but confirmed Duwaji was not accompanied by officers assigned to the family&#8217;s NYPD security detail.
The trip also renewed scrutiny of Duwaji&#8217;s past social media activity. Earlier this year, <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/zohran-mamdanis-wife-celebrated-palestinian-terrorists-including-plane-hijacker-in-social-media-posts-from-early-adulthood/">deleted posts resurfaced</a> in which Duwaji criticized the United States and American foreign policy. In one post, she shared a message claiming American soldiers &#8220;are not brave&#8221; and accused them of &#8220;slaughtering 3rd world civilians&#8221; in pursuit of American hegemony. Other deleted posts reportedly praised Palestinian militant organizations and criticized U.S. support for Israel.
Mamdani previously defended his wife, arguing she should not be judged by past social media activity because she holds no official role in his administration. Duwaji later apologized for a number of the posts.
Her overseas retreat came as the mayor himself marked the nation&#8217;s semi-quincentennial with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mamdani-paints-sinister-picture-of-america-in-speech-honoring-250th-anniversary">speech</a> that focused less on the country&#8217;s founding than on what he views as its present shortcomings.
Speaking from behind George Washington&#8217;s former desk at New York City Hall, Mamdani criticized the Trump administration’s immigration policy, condemned economic inequality, and argued that America had become &#8220;an arena of supremacy.&#8221;
&#8220;We see masked agents terrorizing our streets,&#8221; Mamdani said, referring to ICE officers, while also criticizing what he described as monopolies and oligarchs controlling the nation&#8217;s wealth.
Although Mamdani concluded his remarks by saying &#8220;God bless America,&#8221; much of the speech centered on America&#8217;s failures rather than the anniversary being commemorated.
The mayor later participated in several official America 250 events in New York, including the Parade of Sail and a Fourth of July lighting ceremony at the Empire State Building, while Duwaji remained overseas.

A pastor and dozens of Christians were killed in an overnight attack on a Nigerian village, the latest massacre in a region where targeted violence, land conflict, and terrorism have increasingly converged around Christian communities.
The assault began around 2 a.m. on June 22 in Kawel village in Bokkos County, Plateau State, where Fulani herdsmen killed 28 Christians, including Rev. Markus Nyam, pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, according to <a href="https://www.christiandaily.com/news/fulani-terrorists-kill-28-christians-in-central-nigeria" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Christian Daily International</a>.
Resident Jesse Peter Dukut said villagers were trapped inside their homes as gunmen moved through the community.
“We were inside our houses when the Fulani herdsmen invaded our village,” Dukut said. “If anyone came out of their houses, they were shot at sight. And a sound from any of the houses in the village attracts shooting from the terrorists.”
Dukut said phone and telecom services had been cut, preventing residents from calling security agencies for help. He also said the attackers spoke in Fulani and Hausa and called out the names of Christian leaders, leading him to believe they were being guided during the attack.
“They killed my uncle and brothers,” he said. “I narrowly escaped being shot.”
Nyam was killed alongside members of his congregation. Church leaders in Bokkos later confirmed his death, saying they received the news “with deep sadness” and offering prayers for his family, friends, and community.
Premier Christian News <a href="https://premierchristian.news/en/news/article/reverend-among-those-killed-in-latest-attack-on-christian-village-in-nigeria">reported</a> that the attack was part of a documented pattern of escalating anti-Christian violence across Nigeria’s Middle Belt. According to Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List, 3,490 of the 4,849 Christians killed globally for their faith between October 2024 and September 2025 were Nigerian, representing 72% of the worldwide total.
Christian leaders in the region say Fulani herdsmen attacks are driven by efforts to seize fertile farmland as desertification pushes herders south, while also being shaped by radical Islamist ideology.
The distinction matters. Most Fulani people do not hold extremist views, but a radical faction has adopted tactics comparable to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province, according to a 2020 report from the United Kingdom’s All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom or Belief.
“They adopt a comparable strategy to Boko Haram and ISWAP and demonstrate a clear intent to target Christians and potent symbols of Christian identity,” the report states.
Open Doors U.K. reported that at least 20 people were killed in the Kawel attack, including a church leader and a pregnant woman, and said police arrived only after daylight despite the attack beginning around 2 am. Bishop Ayuba Matawal, a church leader in Bokkos, said the late arrival of police “left the defenseless community entirely at the mercy of their assailants for the duration of the raid,” according to <a href="https://www.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-news/20-killed-in-latest-devastating-attack-in-nigeria/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Open Doors U.K</a>.
The attack also comes as violence has spread beyond Nigeria’s north. Christian Daily reported that a new jihadist terror group, Lakurawa, has emerged in the northwest with advanced weaponry and a radical Islamist agenda. The group is affiliated with Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin, or JNIM, an Al-Qaeda-linked insurgency originating in Mali.
The massacre shows the brutality of Nigeria’s Middle Belt crisis, where religiously targeted violence and terrorism are no longer separate stories, and where Christian communities continue to bear a devastating share of the bloodshed.

The Texas State Board of Education voted on new curriculum that requires public schools to teach the historical context of the Bible, impacting more than 5 million public school students. 
Building on America&#8217;s foundation in Judeo-Christian values, Texas wants to include Bible passages along with other classic literature in the K-12 education curriculum. This comes just after Texas won the fight to mandate posting the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
Multiple titles will be mandated at each grade level, including a “picture-book adaptation of the David and Goliath story for elementary students,” and the story of Adam and Eve for older students. Other biblical stories include the Book of Jonah, the Book of Psalms, and excerpts from the Book of Genesis and Lamentations, according to the <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/26/texas-bible-required-reading-public-school">Guardian</a>. There will also be an increased emphasis on classic literature and culturally significant readings such as Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address.”
The board of education gave its final <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/26/texas-bible-required-reading-public-school">approval</a> to the curriculum during Friday’s vote. 
This new curriculum is based on “a 2023 Texas law requiring state education officials to designate at least one literary work for every grade level, with the state board expanding on that mandate by recommending multiple texts for each grade,” <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jun/26/texas-bible-required-reading-public-school">The Guardian</a> reported.
The decision has led to both praise and criticism.
Parents in favor of the new curriculum believe that it will help students better understand the Judeo-Christian values that founded the nation and Western history. 
Those opposed claim it will be a violation of the separation of church and state. Saying the curriculum lacks diversity and favors Christianity over other faiths, they complain it will “infringe on parents’ ability to lead their children’s religious education &#8230; particularly in non-Christian households.”
However, many public schools already teach stories tied to the Hindu and Islamic faiths despite the fact that there is a “church and state separation.” 
Policymakers have assured parents that the curriculum is not teaching a religion, but providing historical context within the state education code already requiring K-12 to teach “religious literature, including the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and New Testament, and its impact on history and literature.” 
Susan Perez, founder of a Christian parent advocacy group, Citizens for Education Reform, argued in Monday’s school board meeting that not every religious belief needs to be incorporated into public school education because “our nation was founded on Judeo-Christian values.”

Immigration Minister Morten Bødskov announced this week that the government would relaunch an inquiry into whether a nationwide prohibition on the Adhan — the traditional summons to prayer broadcast five times daily from mosque loudspeakers — could be enacted without violating constitutional protections for religious freedom. Bødskov, a Social Democrat, framed the move in blunt terms, arguing that parts of Denmark risked losing their cultural identity to what he called a slow creep of Islamization. He said the country should sound and feel distinctly Danish, not like a neighborhood in a Pakistani city.
Some Danish localities, including Copenhagen, already effectively silence outdoor calls to prayer through strict noise regulations. A new investigation would seek to determine whether a uniform national ban could be written to survive legal challenge under Denmark&#8217;s constitution, which protects the right to public worship while already permitting limits on anti-democratic religious speech.
The move fits a broader pattern in Danish policy. Under Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Denmark has cultivated some of the most restrictive immigration rules in Europe, including laws that allow authorities to resettle migrants out of neighborhoods deemed to have too high a concentration of foreign-born residents. Denmark is home to roughly 270,000 Muslims and around 100 mosques in a general population of about six million.
The Danish debate is one front in a wider international conversation about the call to prayer&#8217;s place in Western cities. The picture looks markedly different in parts of the United States. New York City moved in 2023 to <a href="https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/muslim-call-to-prayer-can-now-be-broadcast-publicly-in-nyc-without-a-permit/4633760">eliminate permit requirements</a> for mosques to broadcast the Adhan on Fridays and during Ramadan, with Mayor Eric Adams describing the change as an overdue step toward inclusion. Minneapolis that same year became the first major American city to allow <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/29/minnesota-islamophobia-muslim-mosque-attacks-prayer">unrestricted outdoor broadcasts at any hour</a>. But in Dearborn, Michigan — home to one of the country&#8217;s largest Arab-American communities — residents have lodged noise complaints against mosques, and city officials have <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news/complaint-dearborn-mosque-noise-call-to-prayer/">confirmed</a> that at least one mosque was found in violation of local ordinances following decibel testing.

Years of open-door policies and unchecked immigration have resulted in a rise of radical Islamism across Europe — and some countries are looking to reverse course.
In the United Kingdom, migrant rape gangs have victimized at least 250,000 British girls over the past several decades, a recent report conducted by Restore Britain, led by Member of Parliament Rupert Lowe, found. A disproportionate number of attackers came from Pakistani Muslim backgrounds, according to the report, which cited court records, previous inquiries, and witness testimonies.
Roughly 87% of those convicted in major group-based child sexual exploitation cases also had distinctively Muslim names, the report said of previous analyses.
&#8220;Britain is not a unique case,&#8221; the report noted. &#8220;This sort of thing goes on anywhere that either welcomes mass migration from Muslim countries or contains long-established Muslim populations. There is a consistent pattern of sexual violence directed against non-Muslim minorities in settings where Muslims form the majority.&#8221;
In many instances, authorities were reluctant to address the issue due to potential racism accusations or concerns about community relations.
&#8220;They are certainly trying to shut down any speech towards Islam, any criticism of Islam. I don&#8217;t understand why people are so afraid of Islam. I think it&#8217;s an awful religion, it&#8217;s violent, sexist,&#8221; Sammy Woodhouse, a survivor of such brutal attacks, told The Daily Wire&#8217;s Michael Knowles in a recent interview.
Woodhouse said the grooming gangs&#8217; activities would escalate during Muslim holidays when they would throw &#8220;parties.&#8221;
&#8220;If you look at all the murders that&#8217;s been committed, the terrorist attacks &#8230; there is a clear problem with Islam,&#8221; she said.
A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrant-arrested-after-attempted-beheading-caught-on-video">Sudanese migrant</a> allegedly attempted to behead another man in the streets of Belfast earlier this month. The gruesome incident was captured on video, showing the moment the foreign suspect pinned another man down and repeatedly stabbed the victim in the face and neck.
In the wake of the brutal stabbing, Northern Ireland Justice Minister Naomi Long said she was scared about backlash against minorities and said the attack should not be used to fuel &#8220;dangerous narratives.&#8221;
&#8220;I also know there are many people in our community people from ethnic minority backgrounds who are terrified today about any kind of retaliation or backlash against them, which we have seen in the past,&#8221; she told the BBC.
The attack also sparked protests in Northern Ireland, with demonstrators taking to the streets to condemn the country&#8217;s immigration policies.
A Syrian asylum seeker who swore allegiance to ISIS went on a stabbing spree in Villach, Austria, killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring five others in February 2025.
In the aftermath of the attack, Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner called for &#8220;mass checks without cause in many areas&#8221; since the foreign attacker was not previously known to authorities.
But in some countries, the tide is turning.
Roughly 8% of Sweden&#8217;s population in 2020 was Muslim, up from around 4% in 2010, according to Pew Research.
Sweden, which previously had an open-door policy toward Syrian refugees, recently passed legislation to expedite deportations by requiring public sector workers to report illegal immigrants to the police.
The country&#8217;s parliament also enacted the &#8220;good behavior&#8221; law to rescind the residency permits of foreigners who are affiliated with extremist groups, have unpaid debts, or are doing undeclared work.
The European Union has also shifted its policies, with member nations entering into a new pact to speed up deportations and to better vet immigrants at their borders.
Migrants from &#8220;safe&#8221; countries or those posing a &#8220;security threat&#8221; will have a three-month asylum process instead of six, <a href="https://abcnews.com/International/wireStory/eus-new-rules-migration-asylum-effect-133807585" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ABC News. Border authorities will also be able to keep some migrants at the border until their cases are processed.
Migrants will also have only one chance to appeal their rejected applications for asylum.
The pact will expedite deportations by automatically issuing applicants return orders when their asylum cases are denied.

The radicalized teenage suspects who shot up the Islamic Center of San Diego and killed three adult victims, including a security guard, aligned themselves with Adolf Hitler and spewed hatred against Muslims and Jews in a manifesto. 
The suspects, Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, targeted a mosque in their rampage, but appeared to hate many different groups of people, police said
“We also identified writings and various ideologies outlining religious and racial beliefs of how the world they envisioned should look. They didn’t discriminate on who they hated,” Mark Remily, special agent in charge of the FBI San Diego office, said in a Tuesday press briefing. 
Clark and Vazquez wrote a “nihilistic” manifesto before killing three people and then each other, <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/19/us-news/manifesto-reveals-motive-behind-islamic-center-of-san-diego-shooting/">according to the New York Post</a>, which cited law enforcement sources.
“The 75-page document is laden with the same Nazi iconography that Clark was seen wearing during a horrifying livestream video of the attack, including the Black Sun, which is associated with Nazi SS head Heinrich Himmler, and Atomwaffen, which is tied to a violent neo-Nazi group,” the Post reported on Tuesday. 
The writings reportedly contained a chaotic blend of anti-Trump, anti-liberal, antisemitic, and homophobic rhetoric, tied together by a deep sense of resentment of their personal life standing.
A section believed to have been written by Clark reportedly drew ideological alignment with Hitler and expressed deep disdain for both Left and Right-wing ideology. The manifesto cites convicted mass killers — including Ted Kaczynski, Timothy McVeigh, and Anders Breivik — as sources of inspiration, the Post reported. 
Clark reportedly targeted Muslims, Jews, and gay people in his writings and expressed a desire to spark an “all-out race war” that would usher in the “collapse of society.” 
Vazquez, in his section of the manifesto, described being short as a source of deep pain and humiliation.
“I would say we&#8217;re still too early in the investigation to say that the Islamic Center of San Diego was the specific target,” Remily said. “We&#8217;re still looking through electronics to give us the answers. But again, what I can say is they definitely had a broad hatred towards a lot of folks.” 
Authorities searched two residences in connection with the investigation and seized 30 firearms and a crossbow.
“I can tell you at this point the guns were not registered to these individuals and belong to the parents of one of the individuals, and exactly how they came into they were able to obtain them still under investigation,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl told reporters. 
The security guard shot to death “played a pivotal role” in stopping more casualties and likely saved the lives of school-aged children nearby, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said Monday.
On Monday afternoon, authorities said the mother of one of the suspects contacted the San Diego Police Department at 9:42 am to report that her son had gone missing, along with multiple firearms, and her car. She said he was suicidal and was probably with a friend.
SDPD said officers received reports of gunfire at the center located at 7050 Eckstrom Avenue at 11:43 am local time and responded within four minutes. Police found all three victims dead outside the center, then cleared each room amid a “chaotic” scene. The teenage shooters, according to police, met each other online. 
“Through the course of that online communication, they discovered that they were both residing in the San Diego area, and they became acquaintances or associates in person, and had in-person contact at that point, but in terms of how the radicalization occurred, we&#8217;re still digging into all of it,” Remily said.

The Daily Wire could not find U.K. Metropolitan Police statements on antisemitic or anti-Christian attacks in the United States, including the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-we-know-about-the-trans-identifying-gunman-who-slaughtered-catholic-school-children">transgender-identifying 23-year-old who shot and killed</a> two children and injured 28 other people at a Minneapolis Catholic school last summer.
Nor did the U.K. government weigh in on the June 2025 <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-sentenced-after-deadly-antisemitic-firebombing?author=Jacob+Wheeler&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=26&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Illegal+Immigrant+Sentenced+After+Deadly+Antisemitic+Firebombing">antisemitic firebomb attack in Boulder</a>, when an Egyptian national hurled Molotov cocktails at Jewish demonstrators supporting the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, killing one person and injuring more than a dozen others, including a Holocaust survivor.
In January 2025, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s far-Left Labour Party blocked a push by the Conservative Party to open an investigation into Pakistani child rape gangs that garnered significant international attention, <a href="http://The Daily Wire previously reported.">The Daily Wire previously reported.</a>
The selective outrage drew the attention of some social media critics.

The Daily Wire reached out to the Metropolitan Police but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Authorities said the mother of one of the suspects in the mosque shooting contacted the San Diego Police Department at 9:42 a.m. to report that her son had gone missing, along with multiple firearms, and her car. She said he was suicidal and was probably with a friend.

Two Jewish men were stabbed by a 45-year-old man in London on Wednesday in what witnesses have described as a targeted attack. 
A knife-wielding man was detained after attacking men in Golders Green, a largely Jewish north London suburb, according to reports from the United Kingdom. Shomrim, a Jewish neighborhood patrol group, said the attacker was targeting “Jewish members of the public.”
The attacker was <a href="https://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/metpoliceuk/news/man-arrested-after-two-stabbed-in-barnet-508805">running</a> through the neighborhood with a knife before being confronted by members of Shomrim. The attacker was later tased and arrested by police after attempting to stab responding officers. Police have labeled the attack as terrorism. 
The victims — one in his 30s and the other in his 70s — were treated at the scene by Hatzola, a local volunteer medical group. They have since been transported to the hospital in stable condition. 
Police have arrested the man on suspicion of attempted murder and said they are trying to determine his nationality and background.  
“We are aware of the significant distress and concern this incident is likely to cause in the face of a number of incidents in the local area,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams. “A suspect is in custody, and investigators are considering all possible motives.
The stabbing spree followed a suspected arson attack in the neighborhood on Monday. 
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer <a href="https://x.com/Keir_Starmer/status/2049460049139900719">called</a> the attack “utterly appalling.” 
“Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain,” he said. “Thank you to Shomrim, Hatzola, and the police for acting swiftly. Those responsible will be brought to justice.”
London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the attack and said police “have stepped up high visibility patrols in the area.”
Member of Parliament Chris Philp said the British government was not doing enough to combat radical Islam. 
“This is yet another appalling antisemitic attack. The Jewish community are not being properly protected from this hate. We have seen Iran sponsoring antisemitic attacks and Islamist extremism run rampant,” he <a href="https://x.com/CPhilpOfficial/status/2049449357674484065">said</a>. “The government must urgently step up tangible actions against antisemitism, Iran, and Islamist extremism.”
One 30-year-old Jewish man told The Telegraph that the government had not done enough to protect his community.
“We used to feel very comfortable here. We thought we were safe and that the Government had our backs,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/29/two-men-stabbed-outside-golders-green-synagogue/">said</a>. &#8220;But so much has happened in the past few weeks and all we get is reassurances and words of condemnation from the prime minister.&#8221;
The attack comes as King Charles visits the United States and is set to visit the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on Wednesday.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti accused a Nashville public school of &#8220;promoting particular religious viewpoints&#8221; through its accommodation of Muslim students during Ramadan, saying the school crossed the line from allowing religious exercise to actively facilitating it.
In a Tuesday <a href="https://tennesseestar.com/justice/tennessee-ag-skrmetti-weighs-legal-implications-of-muslim-prayer-accommodations-in-nashville-public-school/khousler/2026/04/15/">interview</a> with the Tennessee Star, Skrmetti responded to reports that a Metro Nashville Public Schools employee set up a dedicated Islamic prayer room at John Overton High School and encouraged Muslim students to skip class to use it.
“Free exercise says the government can’t stop you from practicing your religion,” Skrmetti explained. “The establishment clause, as interpreted, and as we hear about every time the legislature tries to do anything these days, says that the state can’t … participate in promoting particular religious viewpoints.”

John Overton High School, according to a <a href="https://nashvillebanner.com/2026/04/07/ramadan-muslim-students-overton-high-school/">report</a> from the Nashville Banner, permitted more than 80 students to skip class daily during Ramadan prayer sessions, in addition to separate “food-free” classrooms for fasting Muslim students. Students reportedly used paper towels as improvised prayer mats and set up a divider separating boys and girls before one student recited passages from the Quran. Outside of the month of Ramadan, students are reportedly permitted to leave school grounds once a month to pray.
“So if the school is dedicating resources to something, that’s a very different situation than if the students are self-organizing,” Skrmetti added. “I look at it as an attempt to propagandize and proselytize [non-Muslim] students. That’s my view.”
In a similar vein, the U.S. Department of Education guidance released in February <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-issues-guidance-prayer-and-religious-expression-public-schools">states</a> that “public schools may not sponsor prayer nor coerce or pressure students to pray.”
“School officials should allow members of the public school community to act and speak according to their faith, as long as&#8230; The school itself does not engage in religious activities or speech as an institution,” the guidance continues.
The Tennessee attorney general teased further state action on the issue, concluding: “I expect that we’ll be hearing more about it one way or another.”
The controversy comes as Tennessee lawmakers grapple with the role of religion in public schools more broadly. State House Bill 1491, which would have required public schools to set aside a period for prayer and Bible reading, was temporarily <a href="https://www.tnfirefly.com/news/protecting-religious-liberty-and-expression-in-public-schools-act-tabled-for-summer-study?ref=pamphleteer.co">tabled</a> in a 12-7 committee vote last week in favor of further research on the issue over the summer.
Proponents of the bill argue that the bill aligns with the Supreme Court&#8217;s Kennedy v. Bremerton decision in 2022, which held that the First Amendment protects individuals engaging in religious activities from government reprisal.

The Texas State Board of Education faces pressure from leftist activists and conservative lawmakers as it meets Friday to consider a push to place more positive references to Islam in the state’s history curriculum. 
Officials in the Lone Star State are reviewing social studies standards amid a push from Muslim advocacy groups, which claim current proposals are “exclusionary and Islamophobic.” At the same time, congressional Republicans are urging the board not to give Islam a more prominent role, particularly in response to lobbying from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a group that has been designated as a terrorist organization by Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott. 
“It has come to our attention that an extensive lobbying effort is underway to have the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) alter curriculum standards in a way that would diminish American and Texas history,” Rep. Brandon Gill and other Texas Republicans wrote in a Friday <a href="https://www.scribd.com/document/1024602690/Rep-Gill-Letter-to-Texas-SBOE?_gl=1*1gq3kdd*_up*MQ..*_ga*NjgyMzMyMjg3LjE3NzU4MzYzNTA.*_ga_Z4ZC50DED6*czE3NzU4MzYzNDkkbzEkZzEkdDE3NzU4MzYzNTMkajU2JGwwJGgw*_ga_8KZ8BV0P5W*czE3NzU4MzYzNDkkbzEkZzEkdDE3NzU4MzYzNTMkajU2JGwwJGgw">letter</a> first obtained by The Daily Wire. The letter went on to describe CAIR as a &#8220;transnational criminal organization.”
CAIR has denied any connection to terrorism and has sued the state over the designation. Members of CAIR-Texas have <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/texas-education-officials-pushed-delay-175944847.html?guccounter=1">attended</a> recent board meetings to voice their opposition to how Muslims are currently represented in state curriculum. 
Republicans also pushed back on claims they say are being introduced into the standards.
“The petitioners’ efforts claim that Islam influenced our founding, culture, and way of life,&#8221; the letter states. &#8220;For instance, the (board) recently responded to public testimony asserting that the Alamo is an Islamic building.” 
&#8220;Such claims are intended to introduce sensationalized or false history into our curriculum, and it is not the (board&#8217;s) responsibility to accommodate flagrant lies or cultivate spurious claims of their belonging.”
The fight over the standards has been raging for weeks, with local Muslim groups organizing in support of changes. In March, an Islamic center in Houston <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DWRUs5Bjk-U/">hosted</a> a discussion on “challenging Islamophobia in Texas schools.” 
Gill said that Islam played no major role in the founding or development of Texas and warned against what he described as &#8220;revisionist history.&#8221;
“Students should be taught age-appropriate facts and hard-truths, even when it is uncomfortable. Islam did not play a role in the founding or development of Texas, and to say so would be an outright lie,” he wrote.
The other lawmakers who signed onto the letter include Reps. Chip Roy, Wesley Hunt, Michael Cloud, Nathaniel Moran, Ronny Jackson, Lance Gooden, Brian Babin, Keith Self, and Pat Fallon.

The Trump administration arrested the president of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee, the Department of Homeland Security said on Thursday, describing the man as a Jordanian terrorist.
Salah Sarsour, who has lived in the United States for over 30 years, was convicted in Israel as a teenager after throwing molotov cocktails at the homes of Israeli soldiers. He has also been <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2017/01/21/womens-march-organizer-recently-met-ex-hamas-operative-has-family-ties-to-terror-group/">accused</a> of helping raise money for Hamas in the 1990s. Sarsour was issued a green card under former President Bill Clinton after lying on his immigration application, Homeland Security said.
Sarsour has been the president of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee for the past five years. The society is the largest Islamic group in Wisconsin, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/us/ice-milwaukee-muslim-leader-arrest.html">reported</a>. He is also a board member of the American Muslims for Palestine, a group that has faced <a href="https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/news/releases/attorney-general-ken-paxton-files-legal-brief-against-american-muslims-palestine-and-other-radical">scrutiny</a> over alleged links to Hamas and its support for intifada in the wake of Hamas&#8217; October 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel.

The Trump administration posted the description and photo of Sarsour on social media in response to Wisconsin Democratic Governor Tony Evers criticizing the administration over Sarsour&#8217;s arrest.
&#8220;Targeting people because of their beliefs or background is wrong,&#8221; Evers said. &#8220;This is clearly about sowing division and fear and doesn&#8217;t help make Wisconsin safer. I’m thinking of Mr. Sarsour&#8217;s family in this difficult time, and I join [Rep. Gwen Moore] 
in calling for his immediate release.&#8221;
Sarsour&#8217;s attorney said the Milwaukee Muslim leader received deportation papers from the Trump administration, which said that the State Department determined Sarsour &#8220;poses an adverse consequence to foreign policy considerations.&#8221; The man&#8217;s attorneys argued that the Trump administration is only targeting Sarsour because of his anti-Israel views, adding that Sarsour has no criminal record in the United States.
Hundreds of Muslims gathered for a rally at the Islamic Society of Milwaukee&#8217;s Salam School gym following the arrest of Sarsour, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/milwaukee/2026/04/02/islamic-society-of-milwaukee-president-salah-sarsour-detained-by-ice/89433525007/">reported</a>. Othman Atta, the executive director of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee mosque told the crowd, &#8220;They want to criminalize advocacy for Palestine. That is the only reason that he is being targeted. There is nothing else.&#8221;
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has vowed to strip the legal status of immigrants found to be &#8220;Hamas supporters.&#8221; Last year, the Trump administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-court-rules-against-mahmoud-khalils-release-from-ice-detention">arrested</a> pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, who led anti-Israel and anti-America demonstrations at Columbia University after the October 7 attack. The Trump administration won a legal victory in January over its arrest of Khalil when a federal court ruled that he could be taken back into custody after a lower court ordered his release.

Michigan&#8217;s U.S. Senate race is viewed as one of the most consequential and contentious elections of the 2026 cycle. The three-way Democratic primary contest to replace retiring incumbent Gary Peters — between moderate Congresswoman Haley Stevens, progressive state senator Mallory McMorrow, and far-left podcaster-physician Abdul El-Sayed — has emerged as a proxy war over the soul of the Democratic Party. As Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2026/02/01/michigan-senate-mcmorrow-stevens-el-sayed-00758408">noted</a> last month, the race is a &#8220;catch-all for every question and problem plaguing Democrats politically and tactically.&#8221; Democrats need to flip four Republican-held seats to win a Senate majority. Michigan is not optional.
But two weeks ago, the national spotlight on the Great Lakes state got a little brighter. Ayman Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Lebanon living in Dearborn Heights, collected arms and drove an explosive-laden truck into the preschool at Temple Israel in my hometown of <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/temple-israel-west-bloomfield-michigan-synagogue-shooting-attack">West Bloomfield</a> — the nation&#8217;s largest Reform synagogue in the heart of Michigan&#8217;s Jewish community. By some miracle, security guards engaged him and stopped the violent rampage before he could kill the nearly 140 children and their caretakers inside.
The attack was an act of Islamic terrorism, possibly carried out as revenge for a conflict between combatants on the other side of the globe. Ghazali’s brother was a commander in the Hezbollah terrorist organization, killed in a recent Israel Defense Forces airstrike. But Ghazali’s desire to sow terror could’ve also been incubated in Michigan. He lived next to “<a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/welcome-to-dearborn-americas-jihad-capital-pro-hamas-michigan-counterterrorism-a99dba38?gaa_at=eafs&amp;gaa_n=AWEtsqeUTMNFjSRKEfwkYQ0IjPbfnp66S4OqNvk1IFXeBo3o5BCIKVDFzY0uvS1V54k=&amp;gaa_ts=69b39d4b&amp;gaa_sig=bX6tBUfC_GFHlVuLaQyJG3NhliIh5ORaMzQfDJqHkUzN9aDIqrza94PpOtdWtvInqzoQmCbcVWGKkEYS3tNfQw==">America’s jihad capital</a>,” a community where, in the days after October 7th, 2023, thousands marched through the streets celebrating Hamas&#8217;s slaughter of more than 1,200 innocent men, women, and children — including 46 Americans.
In the week following the West Bloomfield attack, one might expect a Michigan Senate candidate to take pains to lower the temperature. El-Sayed chose differently. Six days after the near-massacre at Temple Israel, he <a href="https://x.com/AbdulElSayed/status/2034360293116067859">posted</a> a smiling photo of himself appealing to fans of Hasan Piker. Shortly thereafter, his campaign <a href="https://x.com/AbdulElSayed/status/2036431020233293934">announced</a> joint appearances with Piker at rallies on the trail.
For those unfamiliar: Piker is a <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/the-handsome-face-of-terror-apologia">Twitch streamer</a> and self-described <a href="https://www.wsj.com/opinion/free-expression/democrats-are-too-cozy-with-hasan-piker-2ecee4cc?st=R2ZQfB&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink">Marxist</a> with three million followers who has built his brand on antisemitism, terror apologia, misogyny, and anti-Americanism. He has called Jews &#8220;inbred&#8221; and declared that property owners who don&#8217;t rent out their homes should be <a href="https://x.com/Rightanglenews/status/1966264506486853810">killed</a> while letting &#8220;the streets soak in their red capitalist blood.&#8221; He has compared supporters of Israel&#8217;s existence to being a &#8220;rabid neo-Nazi&#8221; and <a href="https://freebeacon.com/media/from-defending-rape-to-excusing-9-11-10-statements-that-define-mainstream-media-darling-hasan-piker/">said</a> he doesn&#8217;t “have an issue with” the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah. He has offered justifications for Hamas&#8217;s October 7th massacre and stated that &#8220;it doesn&#8217;t matter if rapes happened on October 7th.&#8221; He has claimed &#8220;America deserved 9/11,&#8221; praised the Chinese Communist Party, and gleefully shared Houthi terrorist recruitment videos with his audience.
El-Sayed is only a slightly more polished version of the <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/michigan-senate-candidate-abdul-el-sayed-compared-an-oklahoma-ban-on-sharia-law-to-the-trail-of-tears/">same thing</a>. He has appeared at Islamist conferences alongside speakers who praised the October 7th attackers. He has raised money from an Arab-American PAC whose leader called for Israeli Jews to be sent &#8220;back to Poland.&#8221; And while speaking before a chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations — which has been designated a terrorist organization by both <a href="https://x.com/GovRonDeSantis/status/1998156452377293228">Florida</a> and <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-designates-muslim-brotherhood-cair-as-foreign-terrorist-organizations">Texas</a> — he once compared an Oklahoma ballot measure restricting the application of Sharia law to the Trail of Tears.

What makes much of this increasingly normalized radicalism especially maddening is how unrepresentative it all is, even of most Democratic voters. The median Michigander who tends to vote Democrat is not any sort of Hasan Piker acolyte. New Manhattan Institute <a href="https://manhattan.institute/article/do-democrats-want-to-be-normal-survey-analysis-of-todays-democratic-coalition">polling</a> of nearly 2,600 Democratic voters found that most Democrats affirm Israel&#8217;s right to exist, that a plurality want their party to move toward the ideological center, and that an overwhelming majority believe political violence is never justified. The faction demanding maximalist anti-Western positioning as the price of progressive authenticity represents a small, loud, hyper-online minority.
So why does the radical left seem to continue gaining traction? As I’ve written previously in <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/democrats-party-voters-manhattan-institute-poll">City Journal</a>, the answer lies in examining who controls the actual machinery of Democratic politics. Over the past two decades, a network of progressive advocacy groups, ideological nonprofits, activist donors, and aligned unions has accumulated enormous influence over candidate recruitment, messaging, and policy prioritization. In election cycles without a presidential contest and thus lower voter turnout, that influence is magnified. Hit the right notes on all the crazy woke stuff, and the George Soros-types will make it worth your while. If not, it will go to your primary challenger. Many of these entities are deploying resources to achieve total ideological fealty to their extreme ideas, rather than to help Democrats win elections. After all, were ideological moderation to prove consistently successful at the ballot box, it would be economically threatening to the progressive groups&#8217; ecosystem itself.
Look at El-Sayed’s relationship with the Pod Save America network. Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Ben Rhodes — the former Obama aides turned podcast hosts — organized a <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/former-obama-speechwriters-to-fundraise-for-progressive-dem-senate-candidate-abdul-el-sayed/">fundraiser</a> for El-Sayed. Rhodes, notably, earned the <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2021/12/05/huckleberry-capone-turd-blossom-white-house-nicknames-523723">nickname</a> &#8220;Hamas&#8221; during his White House years, bestowed by senior White House staffers for his relentlessly hostile stance toward Israel even then. That same crew has now attached itself to El-Sayed&#8217;s campaign as part of a broader attempt to nationalize the lesson they took from Zohran Mamdani&#8217;s mayoral victory in New York City: that the path forward for Democrats is to move left, not toward the center.
Mamdani won a Democratic primary in one of the bluest cities in America, under highly unique circumstances and against a uniquely unpalatable field. Attempting to run that same play in a dark purple Midwestern state and expecting the same result is what you do if you are chiefly focused on advancing a radical agenda and only secondarily on optimizing for victory. But all that won&#8217;t stop a large group of well-paid consultants coasting on Mamdani’s win from trying to sell that blueprint everywhere. And it won&#8217;t stop left-wing donors eager to believe it from buying it.
Meanwhile, the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/polls/michigan-us-senate-election-polls-2026.html">polling</a> is clear. Stevens held an early lead in the primary. While the race has tightened considerably, she has consistently posted the strongest numbers against expected Republican nominee Mike Rogers — a former longtime congressman and well-known Michigan political figure who has run statewide before — in every publicly available general election survey to date.
Republican voters tempted to root for El-Sayed’s nomination — or operatives considering meddling on his behalf, as Democrats <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-democratic-group-meddles-michigan-republican-congressional-primary">did</a> in Michigan&#8217;s 3rd Congressional District Republican primary in 2022 when the DCCC spent big bucks boosting election-denier John Gibbs against moderate GOP incumbent Peter Meijer — should think carefully. Democrats successfully flipped that seat after helping Gibbs win his primary. But primary meddling remains a highly risky and unreliable instrument, especially in an election cycle where the fundamentals do favor the Democrats. In this case, the downside risk is particularly severe: Abdul El-Sayed in the United States Senate.
We already have a pair of bigoted, America-hostile Islamic terror sympathizers in the House in Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. That is two too many. Patriotic Americans of all political persuasions should be unified in their desire to ensure that a third does not join them in the Senate — especially in the weeks following the resurgence of jihadist violence, not just in Michigan, but in <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2026/03/12/shooting-old-dominion-university">Virginia</a>, <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/suspect-in-texas-bar-shooting-wore-property-of-allah-clothing-and-iranian-flag-emblem-according-to-ap-source">Texas</a>, and <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-isis-supporters-charged-attempting-detonate-explosive-devices-during-protests-outside">New York</a> as well.
