There was a time in my life when I lived in the shadow of terror — not just as a distant observer, but as someone who felt its grip firsthand. I was born into a world where radical Islam was not just a belief system, but a way of life — a force that dictated what I could wear, how I could think, who I could marry, and whether I lived or died. I have seen the face of oppression up close. I have felt the cold breath of death whispering lies of hopelessness into my soul.
And yet, by God’s grace, I escaped. I ran from that life and stepped onto foreign soil, hoping to leave the nightmare behind. But the nightmare was not confined to one land, it has followed me. It has followed us all.
I came to America believing I had reached a place of true freedom — a nation that stood tall in the face of tyranny. Today, however, the more I watch, the more I realize America is sleeping.
I see the same signs I saw growing up. I recognize the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/radical-islams-long-game-of-propaganda-in-the-west-is-over-because-of-trump">rhetoric</a>, the infiltration, and the subtle shift in public sentiment that paves the way for radical ideologies to take root. America needs to wake up.
<h3>Telltale Signs Of Radical Infiltration</h3>
I spent years brainwashed by radical Islam — a system that taught me to see the world through the lens of hatred, victimhood, and power. And now, I see the same toxic poison seeping into the West.
The warning signs are clear:
<ul>
<li>Weaponized victimhood: Radical groups manipulate emotions to justify violence. They claim oppression while seeking to destroy the very system that offers them refuge.</li>
<li>The rise of anti-American and anti-Semitic rhetoric: This is no accident. College campuses, media outlets, and even political leaders amplify messages that erode national unity and biblical truth.</li>
<li>Propaganda disguised as tolerance: What begins as an appeal for “understanding” slowly turns into a demand for compliance.</li>
</ul>
This is not speculation. I have witnessed this same strategy destroy nations. I have watched entire governments bow down to ideologies that despise them, only to be consumed by the very monster they tried to appease.
<h3>Why The Resistance To Border Security?</h3>
Why is there such a backlash against strengthening America’s borders? The answer is simple: When light is shined into darkness, the enemy panics.
In the <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2028&amp;version=NIV">book of Acts</a>, the Bible shares a story about the Apostle Paul becoming shipwrecked on the island of Malta. When Paul gathers wood and builds a fire, a hidden viper lunges and bites his hand. The fire exposed what had been hidden — a deadly, silent enemy, slithering beneath the surface. This is exactly what is happening today.
When leadership enforces stricter immigration policies, the vipers slither out, <a href="https://www.christianpost.com/voices/hamas-mask-slips-evil-exposed-with-israeli-hostage-returns.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealing their true colors</a>. When corruption is called out, the ones who benefit from it are the loudest in their opposition.
For too long, our enemies have gleefully watched America, knowing we were too distracted, too divided, too passive to see what was happening right in front of us. The moment we begin to take action, however, they cry out in rage.
Make no mistake: they are afraid because they know their time is running out.
<h3>The Cost Of Weak Immigration Policies</h3>
I know what it’s like to be a desperate immigrant seeking freedom. I also know what it’s like to live in a nation destroyed by lawlessness.
America’s weak and lawless immigration policies have:
<ul>
<li>Allowed radical jihadists to walk freely into our cities</li>
<li>Enabled human trafficking and child exploitation at unprecedented levels</li>
<li>Weakened national identity, making Americans question national patriotism</li>
<li>Provided sanctuary for those who seek to destroy us from within</li>
</ul>
This is not about hate. This is not about closing doors to the needy. This is about preserving a nation that was built on biblical values and protecting the people who call it home. If we do not act now, we may not recognize America in 10 years.
<h3>What Must Be Done?</h3>
Many Americans do not recognize the warning signs because they have never lived under a radical regime. America cannot afford to remain blind any longer. It is time for stronger border security. It is not racist or unloving to protect our home.
It is also time for American Christians to take a stand. This is not just a political battle; it is spiritual warfare. It&#8217;s time for the Church to wake up. Yes, Christians are called to love the foreigner, but we are also called to protect our borders and to stand for righteousness, even when the world calls us intolerant. We are called to expose darkness, not coexist with it.
As the Apostle Paul <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=ephesians%205&amp;version=NIV">wrote</a>, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” This is our moment. The fire has been lit. The vipers are being exposed.
The battle for America’s soul is not over. The question is: Will we fight? Or will we simply go back to sleep?

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/karla-sofia-gascon-becomes-first-trans-identifying-man-up-for-best-actress-oscar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karla Sofia Gascon</a>, the first trans-identifying man nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, is now facing backlash for since-deleted posts the actor made about George Floyd and Islam.
On Thursday, old Twitter posts deemed offensive began to resurface, putting Gascon, who is up for an Academy Award this year for the transgender musical crime drama “Emilia Perez,” under fire, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/karla-sofia-gascon-tweets-george-floyd-islam-controversy-emilia-perez-1236122525/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to The Hollywood Reporter.
Though the posts were deleted, social media users grabbed <a href="https://x.com/KindaHagi/status/1884980574865232056">screenshots</a> and <a href="https://x.com/chlmtslut/status/1885030489297182913">videos</a> that showed the posts on Gascon&#8217;s X account.
In June 2020, Gascon&#8217;s post (written in Spanish, translated by the outlet) about Floyd’s death read, “Let me get this straight, a guy tries to pass off a counterfeit bill after consuming methamphetamine, an idiot policeman arrives and goes too far in arresting him, killing him, ruining the lives of his family and his colleagues, and turning the guy with the bill into a martyr hero.”

“I really think that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict swindler, but his death has served to once again demonstrate that there are people who still consider black people to be monkeys without rights and consider policemen to be assassins,” a later post added, <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/karla-sofia-gascon-tweets-muslims-george-floyd-backlash-emilia-perez-1236291448/">Variety</a> noted. “They’re all wrong.”
In a November 2020 post, the actor took aim at Islam and said, “Sorry, is it just my impression or are there more and more Muslims in Spain? Every time I go to pick up my daughter from school there are more women with their hair covered and their skirts down to their heels. Maybe next year instead of English we’ll have to teach Arabic. Until we ban religions that go against European values and violate human rights, such as Islam, under the protection of freedom of worship, we will not end part of the huge problem we face.”
Another post from 2020 read, “Islam is marvelous, without any machismo. Women are respected, and when they are so respected they are left with a little squared hole on their faces for their eyes to be visible and their mouths, but only if she behaves. Although they dress this way for their own enjoyment. How DEEPLY DISGUSTING OF HUMANITY,” <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/karla-sofia-gascon-tweets-muslims-george-floyd-backlash-emilia-perez-1236291448/">Variety</a> noted.
A 2021 post from Gascon took aim at all religions, with the actor writing on social media, “I am so sick of so much of this s***, of Islam, of Christianity, of Catholicism and of all the f***ing beliefs of morons that violate human rights,” Variety noted.
Gascon also slammed the 2021 Oscars telecast in another post, suggesting at the time, “More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films. I didn’t know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M. Apart from that, an ugly, ugly gala.”
After the posts resurfaced, social media users slammed Gascon, with some pleading for the Academy not to give the actor an award.

Former German Chancellor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/angela-merkel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Angela Merkel</a> is facing intense backlash, including from her own political party, over a new memoir she wrote that is a nightmare for German political parties looking to stop the ascending right-wing AfD party.
She wrote the book hoping to &#8220;secure her crumbling legacy,&#8221; The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/angela-merkel-wants-her-memoir-to-save-her-legacy-its-backfiring-509b30c5?st=W9jzbM&amp;reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, noting that &#8220;the effort is backfiring.&#8221;
The more than 700-page book was &#8220;riling up even some of her most ardent supporters&#8221; because she does not believe that any of her failed policies were bad for the country — including allowing millions of Muslim refugees from the Middle East to be resettled in Germany.
Powerful German state broadcaster ARD titled the headline of their report on her book: “Much pride, little self-reflection.”
Merkel’s Christian Democratic Party blame her directly for the problems that the country is facing and they say that her memoir is making things even worse.
“The publication of this unrepentant, self-righteous book at a time of economic and political turmoil like this is hurting [her political party],” said former senior Merkel official Nico Lange.

The report said that her approval rating has plummeted from her time as a popular elected official to someone that the German public has turned against. Her allies overseas have abandoned support for her, the report said.
The most shocking part of the report focused specifically on her retelling of why she allowed millions of Muslim refugees into Germany.
Merkel said that it was &#8220;fully irrelevant whether they had a right to stay in Germany or not&#8221; when she let them enter the country.
She then blamed the German people for the problems that the refugees have caused:
<blockquote>The consequences—failed integration, ballooning welfare spending, rising crime, political polarization—can be partly blamed, she writes, on Germans’ lack of “will to change.”
In the decade since she instituted her open-door policy, immigration has changed the face of Germany and its political dynamics. An average of around 400,000 immigrants—the population of a large German city—have entered each year, and Germany now spends as much on refugees as it does on defense.</blockquote>
The report noted that the phrase that Merkel repeatedly used to justify her failed policies — that she had &#8220;no alternative&#8221; but to do what she did — served as the inspiration for the Alternative for Germany, or AfD.
The AfD is rapidly growing and is now the country&#8217;s second-largest party.

Vice President Kamala Harris not only met with a Michigan Iranian cleric who supports Hezbollah and praised Iran’s despotic founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, but also reportedly planned to visit his Islamic House of Wisdom before a flood canceled her plans.
The Islamic House of Wisdom, where Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi serves as the spiritual leader, has been a beneficiary of the Alavi Foundation aid program; the Alavi Foundation has been alleged to have “acted on behalf of the Iranian regime &#8230; Alavi’s connection to the Iranian state is clear and concerning, especially considering the broad span of Alavi’s activities in the fields of education and religion, where the Iranian regime can subtly but powerfully seed its influence, agendas, and extremist rhetoric,” the George Washington University Program on Extremism reported in “<a href="https://extremism.gwu.edu/sites/g/files/zaxdzs5746/files/2024-10/Full%20Report_compressed.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Propaganda, Procurement and Lethal Operations: Iran’s Activities Inside America.</a>”
The Alavi Foundation “has funneled nearly $500,000 to Elahi’s organization since 2000, along with another nearly $1.9 million to American universities, including Columbia, according to tax records reviewed by The Post,” the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/10/12/us-news/kamala-harris-mingled-with-iranian-regime-operative/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, adding, “Elahi is also a member of the Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly &#8230; the group has tentacles in about 90 countries, aims to extend regime influence through networking with academic institutions, civil rights organizations, charities and welfare projects around the world.”
Harris met with Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi at a COVID vaccination event in Detroit in July 2021, “Propaganda, Procurement and Lethal Operations: Iran’s Activities Inside America,” stated. “Vice President Harris thanked Imam Elahi and IHW for their preparation to host her at the House of Wisdom last Monday and regretted missing the visitation because of the flood emergency in the area,” the Islamic House of Wisdom <a href="https://www.jns.org/harris-associates-with-iranian-operative-who-lauds-hezbollah/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acknowledged</a> on its website, JNS reported.

Elahi has lauded Khomeini, who founded the Islamic Republic of Iran, as “the leader who led the greatest revolution in the history of Islam” and “an exceptional religious authority who combined religion and reason, morality and modernization, purification and civilization.”
Elahi served as head of the Iranian Navy’s political-ideological office in 1982, according to a CIA report. The GWU report stated that “what arguably constitutes the most problematic aspect of Imam Elahi’s persona is his explicit and continuous support for Hezbollah.”
In 2007, he said, “We need to have another interview talking about whether Hezbollah is a terrorist organization or not. I know that legally in the U.S. now, Hezbollah is on that list. [&#8230;] They [Hezbollah] were resisting against [Israeli] occupation. I think that is something that is supported even by our government.”

Hate crime data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation this week shows that individuals committed a disproportionately greater number of hate crimes against Jews than Muslims in the past year.
The FBI <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/news/press-releases/fbi-releases-2023-crime-in-the-nation-statistics">reported</a> 1,951 anti-Jewish hate crimes between January 2023 and December 2023, and 266 anti-Muslim or anti-Islamic hate crimes. The new data follows a rise in anti-Semitic rhetoric and attacks after Hamas&#8217; Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel, <a href="https://www.ajc.org/news/how-many-americans-have-been-killed-by-hamas-before-and-after-october-7">according to the American Jewish Coalition</a>. Since that attack, many Jewish Americans have reported attacks based on their religion, and anti-Jewish protestors have demonstrated on college campuses across the nation.
In the aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre suggested that the White House had not seen &#8220;any credible threats&#8221; of anti-Semitism as she discussed whether the administration was worried about increases — then proceeded to discuss how &#8220;Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim have endured a disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks.&#8221;
Jean-Pierre later said that she <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/24/white-house-press-secretary-antisemitism-question-00123246">misheard the question,</a> and emphasized the White House&#8217;s stance against anti-Semitism. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment for this story.
Anti-Jewish hate crimes between January 2023 and December 2023 were made up of 51% of destruction, damage, or vandalism of property, 34% of intimidation, and 6% of simple assault, while 61% of the hate crimes were against individuals, 16% were against businesses, 12% against the government, 4% against religious organizations, and 6% against &#8220;other.&#8221; The FBI does not know what race 50% of the offenders are, but 36% of the offenders are white and 9% are black or African American.
Anti-Muslim hate crimes were made up of 48% of intimidation, 20% of simple assault, 18% of destruction, damage, or vandalism of property, and 8% of aggravated assault, according to the FBI statistics. The crime data shows that 54% of those offenders were white, 19% were black or African American, and 19% were of an unknown race. These anti-Muslim hate crimes were largely (90%) committed against individuals.
Between January 2022 and December 2022, the FBI recorded 1,257 anti-Jewish hate crimes, and 176 anti-Muslim hate crimes.
Jonathan Greenblatt, the CEO of the American Defamation League, said that this year&#8217;s numbers are &#8220;unfortunately entirely consistent&#8221; with the organization&#8217;s tracking and the Jewish community&#8217;s experience, noting that the Jewish community &#8220;is still suffering from the sharp rise in antisemitism following Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel.&#8221;
The American Jewish Committee&#8217;s Ted Deutch called the rise in anti-Semitic violence &#8220;earth-shattering.&#8221;
&#8220;The worst part of this new reality is that young Jews are increasingly on the receiving end of this rise in antisemitic hate, according to AJC’s State of Antisemitism in America 2023 Report,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.ajc.org/news/ajc-warns-staggering-fbi-hate-crimes-data-likely-represents-under-reporting-of-anti-jewish">said in a statement</a>. &#8220;It’s unacceptable that in America of all places there are nearly five antisemitic hate crimes on average per day.”

A suspected Islamic terrorist accidentally blew himself up in Tel Aviv, Israel on Sunday night while he was transporting a bomb that authorities believe was either meant for a suicide attack or to be placed and remotely detonated.
The incident happened at around 8 p.m. when Israel Police&#8217;s emergency hotline was flooded with calls about an explosion that happened.
&#8220;It has been confirmed as a bomb explosion,&#8221; police said. &#8220;As a result of the explosion, one person, whose identity is still unknown, was killed, and another person was moderately injured according to medical sources and was transported to a hospital for treatment.&#8221;

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sat down with British activist Tommy Robinson to discuss Robinson’s years-long fight against Islamic Jihad’s increasing presence in Europe under the protection of multiculturalism. 
Robinson, 41, was recently <a href="https://news.sky.com/story/tommy-robinson-arrested-over-immigration-offence-in-canada-13158512">arrested</a> in Canada and ordered to remain in the country over alleged immigration offenses before he was scheduled to speak at multiple events. The full interview between Peterson and Robinson was released on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/watch/jordan-peterson">DailyWire+</a> on Monday.
During the discussion, Robinson told Peterson that he grew up in Luton, England, a town north of London that is now considered “the epicenter of terrorist activities” in Europe. 
“When I was born in 1982, there was one mosque,” he said. “There’s now 45 mosques.” 
“The fertilizer bomb plot was planned in Luton, the 7/7 attacks, they got their bombs in Luton, the Stockholm bomber was radicalized in Luton,” Robinson added. “Terrorist attack after terrorist attack was orchestrated from Luton.”

Robinson described growing up and going to school in the British town, where Muslims, mainly from Pakistan, had migrated. 
“When I went to school, you had the Muslim playground and the non-Muslim playground, so I had very quick learning,” he said. 
“Why were they segregated?” Peterson asked. 
“Well, they segregate themselves. The Muslims did not integrate or assimilate,” Robinson said. “So when you go into the school dinner table, just so people can picture it, you&#8217;ll have white sitting with blacks and with Indians and with Sikhs and Hindus all sitting together. And in the corner there&#8217;d be ten tables of Muslims. I never understood it as a child.” 
As Robinson grew older, he said that he learned more about the radical Islamic jihadists who had come to his town and how they coordinated with local street gangs that peddle drugs and prostitutes. Robinson added that these issues have been prevalent since 2004 when he began seeking to bring attention to them. 
“There&#8217;s a total two-tier policing operation in this town where they get away with what they want. The Islamic community gets whatever they want,” he said in the interview. “The police do not know how to deal with these problems.”

The Maldives — an Islamic nation located a few hundred miles south of India in the Indian Ocean — banned Israeli passports this week to punish the country over its war against the Hamas terrorists that carried out the October 7 massacre.
President Mohamed Muizzu announced that he would follow his country&#8217;s recommendation and impose the ban.
&#8220;The Cabinet decision includes amending necessary laws to prevent Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives and establishing a Cabinet subcommittee to oversee these efforts,&#8221; the statement said.
The country said that it was going to raise money for the The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), an organization <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/at-least-12-u-n-agency-employees-involved-in-oct-7-attacks-intelligence-reports-say-a7de8f36">directly linked</a> to the October 7 terrorist attack.

Israel&#8217;s Foreign Ministry responded to the development by encouraging its citizens to leave the country immediately.
&#8220;For Israeli citizens already in the country, it is recommended to consider leaving, because if they find themselves in distress for any reason, it will be difficult for us to assist,&#8221; the ministry said.
The tourist hotspot has made Islam its official religion and requires its citizens to be Muslim. Those who hold government positions must be followers of Sunni Islam.
It is a criminal offense in the country to be anything other than Muslim and those who criticize the religion are subject to criminal penalties.
The Lowy Institute said in a <a href="https://www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpreter/maldives-legacy-islamic-state">report</a> from 2022 that more Maldivians per capita went to Syria to fight for ISIS than any other country.
&#8220;From 2014 to 2018, more people departed the Maldives to join with Islamic State than from any other country,&#8221; the country said. &#8220;In total, this figure is estimated at 250 men and women from a country of only 500,000. Most who went died.&#8221;

Comedian <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bill-maher" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill Maher</a> said during his HBO &#8220;Real Time&#8221; show on Friday that pro-Hamas protesters in the U.S. should get &#8220;a taste&#8221; of how Islamic countries treat women.
Maher made the remarks as far-Left extremists have caused major disruptions at college campuses and in cities throughout the U.S.

Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro talked with Somali-born author, human rights activist, and former Dutch Parliamentarian Ayaan Hirsi Ali about the strange alliance between the Left and radical Islam and asked her about the biggest challenges facing the West during the latest edition of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/oppression-to-empowerment-ayaan-hirsi-ali-member-exclusive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Ben Shapiro Show Sunday Special</a>.”
Ali was born into a devout Muslim family in 1969, but fled to the Netherlands to avoid an arranged marriage to one of her distant cousins. The Somali woman has since become a fierce free speech and human rights advocate. She <a href="https://unherd.com/2023/11/why-i-am-now-a-christian/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">converted</a> to Christianity after being a prominent atheist in part because of Christianity’s positive influence on Western civilization.
“I want to start with what may be the biggest crisis facing the West and there are really two aspects of this. One is a failure of the West to understand itself, and one is a failure of the West to understand other parts of the world,” Shapiro said before asking Ali to share her thoughts.
“Let me start by the first part of your question,” Ali replied. “Which is ‘what&#8217;s the biggest challenges facing the West?’ And in my view, the biggest challenge by far is the West&#8217;s insecurity about its own legacy, about its own Judeo-Christian traditions, about the institutions it has built, about its own prosperity, and the values that led to that prosperity.”
Ali then dove into what she believes is the culprit behind Western society losing its Judeo-Christian traditions.
“At some point, the West has allowed itself to feel guilty and that guilt was weaponized against it,” she said.
“So why do you think that the West has lost its way?” Shapiro asked. “There are a lot of people who posit that it&#8217;s a loss of religious faith. There are a lot of people who posit that in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, the West basically has no confidence in its own ability to shape the world. But where do you place the blame for the West having lost its confidence?”
“It&#8217;s both. But I think that the loss of faith and the loss of faith in the Christian core,” Ali said, adding. “I think that is a very, very important point that was neglected and maybe so neglected to the point where we literally are on the brink of losing everything.”

Later in the interview, Shapiro and Ali discussed how the West straying from its Judeo-Christian roots has resulted in the culture witnessing an alliance between the far Left and radical Islam, which has been especially noticeable in the recent anti-Israel protests on college campuses across the U.S.
“The only commonality between the far-Left and radical Islamists is their desire to tear down the civilization,” Shapiro said.
Ali agreed, adding that there is a disconnect between the younger generation and the faith and principles that guided most people throughout the history of Western civilization.
“I think most of them maybe didn&#8217;t grow up with faith and don&#8217;t really know what their roots are. That&#8217;s not just faith … they&#8217;ve also been guilt-tripped,” Ali said. “So they&#8217;ve been left to the wolves to pick on their minds and culture — their minds, their hearts, their souls. And that method of fighting is proving to be much more effective than the use of military tools alone.”

Islamist extremists reportedly set fire to several Christian houses and businesses in southern <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/egypt">Egypt</a> last week.
The violence broke out on Tuesday night in the village of Al-Fawakher, which is home to about 3,000 Christian families. The local Christian community had recently received a permit to construct a new church building, prompting backlash from some Muslim hardliners.
&#8220;The attacks are believed to have been triggered by an attempt to build a new church in Al-Fawakher village in Minya [province],” one local source, who asked to remain anonymous, told <a href="https://www.newarab.com/news/extremists-set-fire-christian-homes-southern-egypt">The New Arab</a>. &#8220;When religious fanatics failed to expel Christians from their homes as a form of punishment, the extremists [reportedly] burned down their houses while they were still inside.”

“Security forces arrived and brought the situation under control, arresting the instigators and perpetrators,” Coptic Bishop Anba Macarius said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/AnbaMacarius/status/1782931537081557325">public statement</a> on Wednesday: “State agencies will compensate those affected and hold the perpetrators accountable.Calm prevails in the village now. May God protect our dear country, Egypt, from all harm.”
Christians have long been a persecuted minority in Egypt. Minya province in particular has been a hotbed of violence, with at least <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/22/opinion/egypts-cruelty-to-christians.html">77 incidents</a> recorded between 2011-2016, according to the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.
According to Copts United, a <a href="https://www.christiandaily.com/news/coptic-christians-are-attacked-in-two-villages-in-egypt.html">similar attack</a> took place on Friday in the village of Al-Kom Al-Ahmar, after a local Evangelical group was given permission to build a church there.
Bishop Macarius himself <a href="https://www.dailynewsegypt.com/2013/09/30/minya-bishop-escapes-assassination-attempt/">survived an assassination attempt</a> in 2013.
The exact number of Christians within the country is contested, and the officially Islamic Egyptian government has been accused of trying to downplay the size of its Christian minority – <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2011/02/16/how-many-christians-are-there-in-egypt/">estimates</a> range anywhere from 5-15% of the country’s 111 million people, although it is generally agreed that the share is shrinking – likely as a result of conversion, migration, or lower fertility rates compared to Egypt&#8217;s Muslim majority.
The majority of Egypt&#8217;s Christians belong to the Coptic Orthodox Church, which claims descent from the Patriarchate of Alexandria, one of the 5 major centers of early Christianity, alongside Rome, Constantinople, Antioch and Jerusalem. The Coptic Church broke away from what would become the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches in 451 AD after the Council of Chalcedon, over theological differences, and remained the dominant religion in Egypt until the country was conquered in 641 by Muhammed’s immediate successors in the Rashidun (“rightly guided”) Caliphate.
Egypt is also home to hundreds of thousands of Eastern Orthodox Christians, Protestants and Catholics.
“An unacceptable culture of intimidation and discrimination is still far too prevalent in this region despite positive steps taken by the Egyptian authorities in recent years, and the personal commitment of President Sisi to fight sectarian extremism and promote equality of citizenship,” Christian Solidarity Worldwide President Mervyn Thomas said in a <a href="https://www.christiandaily.com/news/coptic-christians-are-attacked-in-two-villages-in-egypt.html">press statement</a>. “Egyptian citizens should all be free to practice any religion or belief of their choosing without fear of threats or physical violence.”
