On the eve of Operation Barbarossa, Adolf Hitler’s long-desired invasion of the Soviet Union, the German high command issued a chilling edict to the Axis armies waiting for their marching orders, setting the tone for one of the most horrific and prolonged episodes of mass barbarity ever recorded. 
“This will be a war of annihilation,” said the German Army chief of staff, General Franz Halder, relaying the wishes of his Führer. “Commanders must make the sacrifice of overcoming their personal scruples.” 
Beyond the scope of Hitler’s four million-man operation spanning a front line some 1,200 miles from Finland to the Black Sea, it was the viciousness, indeed the racial hatred, that underpinned the assault on the detested Slavs, Bolsheviks, and, of course, Jews, that made this crime and others of Hitler and his Nazi hordes so unique in the annals of warfare. 
Barbarossa was the ultimate expression of Hitler&#8217;s megalomaniacal zeal to eradicate tens of millions of those whom he considered unworthy of sharing the same continent with his master race. The orgy of mass murder his loyal soldiers inflicted upon the people of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic States was the equivalent of over six 9/11s each day, every day, for over 1,400 days. The 27 million dead would be added to the tally of millions more murdered Poles, Greeks, French, Dutch, Belgian, Danes, British and British Commonwealthers, Americans, Norwegians, Czechs, Yugoslavs, and others, to the point where Adolf Hitler, in his hate-filled descent into bona fide madness, could claim direct responsibility for the deaths of over 36 million people. This does not even include Axis dead.
This is the man to whom a desperate Democrat Party is once again shamelessly trying to link their GOP opponent, Donald Trump. Such lack of shame in making so ludicrous an analogy actually beggars the mind. More so when you consider how many Americans on the left blindly accept this comparison as even remotely valid. As such, although not surprisingly, Trump has been the target of three assassination attempts due to such demonization. After all, when you draw a nexus between him and the architect of Barbarossa, The Holocaust, and other atrocities, it is easy to see how not just the mentally unstable, but even many otherwise normal Americans fearing for their nation&#8217;s future can want the man dead. In fact, <a href="https://www.christianpost.com/news/one-third-of-democrats-wish-trumps-assassin-didnt-miss-poll.html">almost one-third</a> of Democrats surveyed expressed disappointment that Trump was not felled by the bullet that took the life of an innocent father of two. That is self-evidently disturbing.
But who is Donald Trump really, when you strip away the bizarre, visceral hatred for the man? As it turns out, he was a politician who was already President for 1,447 days. And the nation survived with its bedrock civil liberties well intact while the world was at relative peace. This was a man who firmly supported the Jewish state of Israel, and was, in fact, the only President in my adult lifetime to refrain from starting yet another ill-conceived war.
Indeed, the only atrocities I ever saw him commit while in office were his hairdo, fast food diet, and sometimes undisciplined tongue. And, yes, he should have been more forceful in his words to try and stem a four-hour riot on Capitol Hill.

With that said, I have often wondered if those who somehow compare Donald Trump (or anyone really) to Hitler have ever even heard of such nightmarish places as Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belsen, Sobibor, or Dachau. And these infamous death factories, run with the Nazis’ knack for dispassionate efficiency, are just a handful of the <a href="https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/how-many-concentration-camps">over 6,000</a> concentration camps set up throughout Germany and the conquered territories from 1933-1945. And the millions of innocents murdered in these grisly places do not even include the inhumane POW camps into which millions of Red Army prisoners were dumped and condemned to die of starvation, summary execution, torture, and disease.
As just one example of the atrocities about which I’ll guarantee you the “Trump is Hitler” crew are unaware, consider Babi Yar. In September 1941 as the Wehrmacht moved through the Ukraine, Hitler’s roving SS assassins called the <a href="https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/einsatzgruppen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Einsatzgruppen</a>, along with elements of the regular German Sixth Army, sent out an order that all Jews in Kyiv were to report for relocation. They were instructed to bring ID, money, and warm clothing. The unsuspecting Ukrainian Jews were ignorant of the Nazis’ rabid anti-Semitism; until the invasion, Stalin had forbidden negative press re: Germany as part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Non-Aggression Pact. Some 33,000 showed up and were subsequently ushered to the ravine of Babi Yar. Hitler’s executioners then systematically massacred them all…men, women, children, the latter of whom were often lined up and shot three at a time with one round to save ammunition. It has been said that before there was “Shoah by gas&#8221;, there was &#8220;Shoah by bullets.” And the Nazis were just getting started. Not only was Hitler fully aware of this and countless other atrocities in his name, he enthusiastically encouraged them.
As for the broader Ukraine, Hitler and his Nazi henchmen vowed to strip “Europe’s breadbasket” of its grain harvest which would be spirited away to the Reich. In what they unashamedly labeled “der Hungerplan,” Hitler gleefully expected that his edict would condemn some 30 million to die of slow starvation. The very well-fed Hermann Göring, echoing his Fuhrer’s sentiments, boasted that the population would have to “eat Cossack saddles!” 
Those allowed to live and work the land at the behest of their German overlords would be relegated to slaves, modern helots. It is not difficult to see where Tolkien’s inspiration for his “Lord Of The Rings” series — featuring Sauron’s malice, lust for power, conquest, and drive to inflict suffering upon the people of Middle Earth — originated.
Like many of us in the post-war world, I’d grown up knowing about Hitler and his crimes. But it was not until I began researching my <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Another-Time-Place-Brad-Schaeffer/dp/1682616630">first book</a> that I came to understand just how close to pure evil this man was. Indeed, for Europe, Hitler’s ascent to power, and the unfathomable suffering and devastation he unleashed upon the continent in his six-year rampage of gore, was, quite simply, the worst thing to happen since the Black Death.
Yet, now we must endure the latest round of “Trump is Hitler” from the Left that will try any and every approach to save Kamala Harris’ sinking campaign.
Do such dubious equivalences stem from ignorance? Is it desperation? I don’t know. But I do know this: The more the “H” word is casually bantered about as the go-to analogy for anyone the Left finds disagreeable, the less the actual crimes of Hitler himself are properly remembered. Like his morally anesthetized soldiers, we become inured to them. And that is dangerous. Because, as Mark Steyn said, “When everybody’s Hitler, nobody’s Hitler.” How, then, will we know if a true successor to the man the historian Hugh Trevor-Roper referred to as “the coarsest, cruelest, least magnanimous conqueror the world has ever known” is among us?
That a president should choose to use his Constitutionally granted authority to secure the border and sit across the table from bad actors who command nuclear arsenals, so as to prevent a Third World War (from which humanity would never recover), while placing U.S. interests above those of the other 192 nations, does not make him the new Führer.
To compare Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler only serves to shamelessly insult and belittle the memory of the Nazis’ tens of millions of victims. This is a truly grotesque tactic deployed at the eleventh hour to score cheap political points to salvage a campaign that is rapidly sinking under the weight of its own candidate’s incompetence, mendacity, and astounding vacuousness. When this campaign is over, no matter who wins, the Democrats will owe not just Trump, but Hitler&#8217;s victims, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/auschwitz-survivor-blasts-kamala-for-comparing-trump-to-hitler">some still living</a>, an apology.
It is time to banish the “Hitler” analogies from the political landscape once and for all. Otherwise, I fear that, given our lack of understanding of just how horrific the real Hitler was, we may not recognize his true reincarnation when we see him. And like those poor souls of Babi Yar, we won’t come to realize just how mistaken we have been until it is too late.

The mayor of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/berlin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Berlin, Germany</a>, gave a no-nonsense answer when asked why his office had Israeli flags flying in front of it.
The questioner claimed Israel was perpetrating a “genocide,” asking Mayor Kai Wegner, “The genocide taking place in Palestine does affect us, even if geopolitics is now perhaps more important than the office of a small mayor, I say. Nevertheless, we cannot duck away from a genocide. But why, why, for example, are there Israeli flags hanging in front of our Berlin town halls?”
Wegner decried those who have called Israel’s actions “genocide,” firing back, “So it’s not happening. Period. And I won’t allow it, either.”
Wegner implicitly referred to the effort by Germans to atone for the terrible crimes of the Nazis against the Jews in World War II, saying, “This is a massive, one-sided propaganda campaign by certain circles, where I simply say, I thought we were further along. I thought we had moved on and learned other lessons from our history, too. So apparently, some people haven’t yet. And I can tell them that the Israeli flag will hang outside my red town hall until we know the fate of the hostages, who are being held in the most cruel, atrocious conditions, in agonizing suffering in the tunnels of Hamas terrorists. As long as there is still hope that one of these hostages will be returned to their families, the Israeli flag will hang in front of the ruling mayor’s official residence.”

The American daughter of a hostage who was kidnapped and held by the despotic Iranian regime for the last four years savaged the Biden-Harris administration and the German government when they criticized Israel for not doing enough to gain freedom for the hostages held by Hamas.
Jimmy Sharmahd, an independent journalist, was born in Iran but migrated to Germany after the Islamic Regime took over in 1979. In 2003 he and his family moved to the United States and settled in California. He created websites that offered news and support to Iranian dissidents. In 2009, Iranian agents tried to assassinate him. In 2020, on a business trip overseas to Dubai, he was kidnapped by Iranian agents. “In January 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council reported that Mr. Sharmahd was one of several &#8216;foreign and dual nationals who remain imprisoned under inhumane conditions, including limitations on contact with their families,&#8217;” Global Liberty Alliance <a href="https://www.globallibertyalliance.org/jamshid-sharmahd-kidnapped-into-iran.html">noted</a>.
Gazelle Sharmahd spoke out on X, saying, “Everybody is a freaking expert on how to get hostages out and everybody this week is pointing fingers at Israel, saying, ‘You haven’t done enough. This is not how it’s being done. Let me tell you how it’s being done,’ including two of our world leaders, Germany and the U.S.”
“So let’s look at what they’re saying and what they have done to get their hostages out,” she stated. “Our world leader, our President Biden, was chilling at the beach this week while his VP was using the hostage family, the American hostage family, for her campaign trail on the DNC. And after Hamas executed him [Hersh Goldberg-Polin], she made a phone call and was very sorry about that. But let’s look back at how the Biden-Harris administration has handled other American hostages; one, specifically: my dad, Jimmy Sharmahd, is an American and a German, and he’s been kidnapped, taken to Iran, held hostage there for four years, the entire time of this administration, and they haven’t done anything to bring him home.”
“Neither President Biden nor his VP Harris have even talked to us or even mentioned my dad’s name, [let] alone done something for him,” she noted. “And last year, around this time, in September, me and my brother were in a sit-in strike with other hostage families in front of the state Department, asking, ‘What is being done to bring our family, our parents, back home?’”
“Well, this is what happened,” she recalled. “While we were sweating in the heat, they, Biden and Harris, made a deal with the Islamic regime in Iran. Yeah, the same Islamic regime that is funding Hamas and is responsible for the terror attack plus is responsible for the 240 hostages that were taken to Gaza. And what did they do? They transferred $6 billion to a bank in Qatar, the same Qatar that is housing the terrorist that is protecting their money. So the terrorists got $6 billion, and what did we get? A spit in the face.”
“My dad together with other Americans were left behind to die. My dad has an execution sentence. He can be executed, just like Hersh. And you left him behind?” she charged. “So bravo. Fantastic track record. If you know better how to get Americans out of the hands of terrorists, and not executed, tell us your plan. Tell us how it’s done. And then tell us why you failed to do that for your own American hostages in Iran.
“Yesterday, our Foreign Minister from Germany came out and told Israel, ‘You should negotiate. You should make a deal with Hamas because it’s worth the life of hostages,&#8217;” she pointed out. “So what are you exactly telling us here? Because Israel should negotiate for their hostages because their life is worth something? What about the life of your citizens? If it’s worth negotiating for hostages, can you explain to us why for four years you haven’t negotiated to save the life of my dad, of the other German hostages in Iran, of the other German hostages in Cuba, and other places of the world? Are we not worth anything? Is that what you’re telling us? Your citizen’s life is worth nothing?”
“So again, our question is what have you done to save your citizens from terrorists that want to execute them,” she continued. “What have you done? Financial pressure? Economic pressure? Have you threatened to break off trade relations? Have you closed your embassy in Iran? Have you kicked them out of the embassy in Germany? What exactly have you done to get your citizens back safe home? If you have a plan, let us know why you haven’t done it in four years for your own citizens.”
“So before pointing fingers left and right and telling Israel what to do, demonstrate to us how you have saved your hostages from the hands of terrorists that want to execute them,” she said bluntly. “And if you did that, explain to me why you haven’t done it for my dad. Why is my Dad this Sunday 1,500 days and nights alone in a torture chamber, in a tunnel? We don’t know even where he is in Iran. And you haven’t even tried to get him back out.”
“I haven’t seen anybody who has tried more than Israel has tried now,” she declared, then, turning to the Biden-Harris administration and the German government, concluded, “I would love to see what they have to say about my dad, if they even dare to mention my dad’s name. he exists, and so do we. And we will not be silenced.”

Law enforcement officials in Germany and France arrested two Islamic foreign nationals in separate cases who are accused of carrying out terrorist attacks over the weekend in the respective countries.
Approximately 200 police officers in France were searching for the individual who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cars-explode-building-set-on-fire-in-islamic-terrorist-attack-on-french-synagogue-reports">blew up</a> two cars at a synagogue in La Grande-Motte on Saturday morning, tried to enter the building with a gun, and later set the building on fire — all while carrying a Palestinian flag.
Local media <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/france/20240825-french-police-arrest-suspect-over-fire-attack-on-synagogue">said</a> that police arrested a 33-year-old Algerian man who was suspected of carrying out the terrorist attack.

A separate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/islamic-terrorists-take-responsibility-for-mass-stabbing-attack-in-germany-as-multiple-arrests-made">attack</a> was carried out late Friday night in the German city of Solingen at the “Festival of Diversity” — a three-day event celebrating the 650th anniversary of the city’s founding.
Witnesses described the suspect as &#8220;Arab-looking,&#8221; and they say that he shouted &#8220;Allahu Akbar&#8221; while stabbing nine people, killing three. Police said four of the six who survived remain in life-threatening condition.
The suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian identified as &#8220;Issa Al H.&#8221; turned himself in to authorities and took credit for the attack, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/deadly-knife-attack-festival-germany-rcna168050">reported</a>. Police said that he shares the same terroristic ideology as ISIS, which he reportedly joined before the attack.
&#8220;Due to his radical Islamist beliefs, he decided to kill as many people as possible, who he considered to be non-believers, at the Solingen city festival on August 23, 2024,&#8221; the prosecutor&#8217;s office said in a statement. &#8220;There he stabbed festival visitors repeatedly and deliberately in the neck and upper body with a knife.&#8221;

French, German Police Arrest Islamic Foreign Nationals In Separate Terror Attacks: Reports

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/germany" target="_blank" rel="noopener">German</a> law enforcement officials are searching for an Islamic man following a mass stabbing attack in the city of Solingen on Friday night that left several people dead.
At least nine people were stabbed, three of whom have died, at the “Festival of Diversity” — a three-day event celebrating the 650th anniversary of the city’s founding.
The suspect &#8220;specifically targeted the necks of his victims,&#8221; German authorities said at a press conference.
German newspaper WELT AM SONNTAG obtained a copy of a police report on the attack that <a href="https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article253170104/Solingen-Polizeibericht-Zeuge-hoerte-Allahu-Akbar-Ruf.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>: &#8220;A witness who was injured in the attack stated that the unknown suspect was &#8216;known from Solingen&#8217; and that he was also a visitor to a local mosque. A witness reported that the suspect shouted &#8216;Allahu Akbar&#8217; during his actions.&#8221;
Bild, Germany’s largest newspaper, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/multiple-people-stabbed-by-arab-looking-man-in-terror-attack-on-diversity-festival-in-germany-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that police were treating the incident as a “terror attack” after the suspect, whom witnesses described as “an Arab-looking man,” began attacking people at a busy city square in Solingen where a stage was set up for the event.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack, saying: &#8220;The perpetrator of the attack on the Christian gathering in the city of Solingen, Germany, yesterday, was a soldier from the Islamic State, and he carried it out as revenge against Muslims in Palestine and everywhere.&#8221;

Police arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the stabbing, but later indicated that he was not the suspect they were looking for. Police believe he may have known about the attack and failed to alert the authorities.

A manhunt is underway in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/germany" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Germany</a> after at least nine people were stabbed at a diversity festival on Friday night reportedly by a middle eastern-looking man.
Bild, Germany&#8217;s largest newspaper, said that police are treating the incident as a &#8220;terror attack&#8221; after the suspect, who witnesses described as &#8220;an Arab-looking man,&#8221; began attacking people at a busy city square in Solingen where a stage was set up for the event.
At least three people were killed during the attack, the report <a href="https://www.bild.de/news/inland/messer-amok-in-solingen-mehrere-menschen-bei-stadtfest-getoetet-641fe8c9d020c344f0b8ee09" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. The suspect reportedly stabbed people in the neck during the attack.
&#8220;The attacker stabbed people at random with a knife. That&#8217;s why we are currently assuming it was an attack,&#8221; said Chief Inspector Sascha Kresta, spokesman for the Wuppertal police. &#8220;There are currently three fatally injured victims, five seriously injured and people in shock. A large-scale search for the attacker is underway, and we absolutely want to arrest the perpetrator. But investigations, forensic evidence and witness interviews are also underway at the same time.&#8221;
The attack happened during the “Festival of Diversity” — a three-day event celebrating the 650th anniversary of the city’s founding.

&#8220;This evening we are all in Solingen in shock, horror and great sadness,&#8221; the city’s mayor, Tim Kurzbach, wrote on social media. &#8220;We all wanted to celebrate our city&#8217;s anniversary together and now we have dead and injured people to mourn. It breaks my heart that there was an attack on our city. I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost. I pray for all those who are still fighting for their lives.&#8221;

On Thursday, the United States and its allies secured a deal with Russia in order to return some 16 people, including multiple Americans, from the Russians. The Russians have basically taken several Americans hostage over the course of the last several years, and the United States traded a bunch of murderers as terrorists and spies for these hostages.
This is being treated as a massive win for the Biden administration by the media and the Biden administration itself. In return for Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan, Russia retrieved eight people, including a convicted murderer who shot dead a former Chechen rebel leader in Berlin, a Russian agent accused of helping give sensitive American electronics and ammunition to Russia, a man involved in what American authorities <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/01/world/who-are-detainees-russia-us-prisoner-swap-intl/index.html">called</a> “an elaborate hack-to-trade scheme that netted approximately $93 million through securities trades based on confidential corporate information stolen from US computer networks,” and four other convicted spies.
Republican Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/lawyer-ex-us-marine-whelan-jailed-russia-says-she-cannot-confirm-his-whereabouts-2024-07-31/#:~:text=%22I%20remain%20concerned%20that%20continuing,Committee%2C%20said%20in%20a%20statement">said</a> in a statement, “I remain concerned that continuing to trade innocent Americans for actual Russian criminals held in the U.S. and elsewhere sends a dangerous message to Putin that only encourages further hostage-taking by his regime.”
It&#8217;s great that we&#8217;re getting back our people; that is a wonderful and good thing.
But the treatment of this as a massive triumph by the Biden administration betrays an enormous amount about the way that Americans think about foreign policy, particularly on the Left and in the hallowed precincts of the State Department. The West has become accustomed to looking at foreign policy as though the best foreign policy ends in trading murderers and spies for innocent people. That is the best-case outcome.

That is an extension of a generalized world view that the best foreign policy for America is to lose slowly and with the least possible cost, not to actually push to victory. It&#8217;s part and parcel of a broader worldview that says, for example, that Afghanistan was a triumph, which is something Joe Biden and Kamala Harris said, despite the fact that pulling out of Afghanistan left 13 American service people to be killed, hundreds of Americans behind, tens of thousands of American allies to be slaughtered by the Taliban, and millions of women to be dragged back into basements so they can&#8217;t go to school.
According to Biden, his State Department team, and Harris, that was a triumph. To them, the best form of foreign policy involves losing very, very slowly and with the least amount of cost; the worst foreign policy is where you win.
This is not unique to Biden or Harris. This has been an essential element of American foreign policy strategy on the Left for decades. It&#8217;s why America has not won a full-scale victorious war since World War II. It&#8217;s been a long time in America since we won a full-scale victorious war because we&#8217;re always fighting to stasis; we&#8217;re always looking for a way out.
What this did was incentivize Vladimir Putin to take more Americans hostage.
The West has been sucked into the morass of never winning victories and treating what are, by any standard of the imagination, losses as victories.
Two things can be true here: It is incredibly good that Americans are coming home, and it is a diplomatic loss to trade murderers for innocents.
Diplomacy is a tactic. It is not a strategy. The foreign policy establishment is constantly suggesting that diplomacy is in and of itself a strategy, that talking is a strategy.
Talking is a means to an end. Sometimes it’s useful; sometimes it’s not.
When you treat diplomacy as the strategy, what you end up with are bad deals and lost wars.
Which is the name of the game when it comes to Joe Biden.

Russian operatives were allegedly behind an arson attack on a German factory last month, according to western intelligence officials who say that the attack is part of Russia&#8217;s campaign to sabotage Ukraine&#8217;s war effort.
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/world/europe/russian-saboteurs-behind-arson-attackat-german-factory-c13b4ece">reported</a> that officials initially believed that that the fire at a Diehl Metal Applications factory was an accident.
They now believe that the fire was intentionally set by &#8220;Russian saboteurs trying disrupt shipments of critical arms and ammunition to Ukraine,&#8221; the report said.
The fire happened in an area of the factory where &#8220;only a few people had access,&#8221; the report said. All CCTV footage was allegedly destroyed in the fire.
An intelligence agency of a member state of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) intercepted electronic-communications that &#8220;provided evidence of Russia’s involvement,&#8221; but the evidence was not allowed in Germany&#8217;s court system thus preventing criminal charges from being filed and blame being placed on Russia.
European countries have tried to avoid escalating tensions with Russia amid its war in Ukraine but not placing blame on it for various mysterious incidents that have occurred on civilian and military infrastructure on the continent, the report said. Privately, however, they believe that Russia is responsible for at least some of the incidents.
The goal of Russia&#8217;s sabotage <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/bf128ebf-2e3f-40a3-b7ec-bcd1b477ab9a">campaign</a> is to cause division in country&#8217;s that support Ukraine. Russian nationals have been <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/germany-arrests-two-alleged-military-sabotage-plot-behalf-russia-2024-04-18/">arrested</a> for trying to attack U.S. military facilities in Germany and for carrying out <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/suspects-alleged-russia-linked-uk-arson-attack-face-trial-next-year-2024-05-10/">attacks</a> in the U.K.
Suspected cases of Russian sabotage include destroying an undersea gas pipelines and data cables in the Arctic and the Baltic Sea regions by civilian ships tied to Russia, the report said.
The report said that Russia is recruiting criminals on social media to carry out the attacks, some of whom may not be aware that they are being recruited by Russia and may believe that they are working for someone else. They are often paid in cryptocurrency.

The following is an edited transcript of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/morning-wire/hunter-biden-jury-deliberates-europe-turns-right-6-11-24" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Morning Wire interview</a> between Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley and Nile Gardiner from The Heritage Foundation.
Conservative and populist parties in several European countries made major gains in European Parliamentary elections Sunday, shaking up several regimes and prompting calls for snap elections. Nile Gardiner, Director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation, joined Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley to discuss what is driving Europe to the Right.
JOHN: Welcome, Nile. First, what has unfolded since Sunday?
NILE: Well, I think the results released on Sunday night are nothing less than a political earthquake in Europe. We have seen an emphatic rejection of socialist ruling elites across much of Europe. We have seen a resounding set of victories for parties on the Right in many European countries. And we&#8217;ve seen the utter humiliation of big European figures, such as Emmanuel Macron, president of France, Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, and huge gains for conservative political parties.
JOHN: Who are some of the big names and parties emerging in this sort of rise of the Right?
NILE: The biggest winner, actually, from these European elections has been Georgia Meloni in Italy, whose Brothers of Italy party did extremely well in the European elections, quadrupling their level of support. Meloni has emerged as a very, very powerful leader in Europe. In France, of course, with Marine Le Pen, her political party took over 30% percent of the vote — double the size of the vote for Emmanuel Macron&#8217;s party. She will likely face off against Macron in the French presidential race in 2027. And if that election were to be held today, she would probably emerge as the winner.

JOHN: Now, we saw a snap election called by Macron. What prompted it and how risky is this for the French president and his party? 
NILE: In France, Macron&#8217;s political party received only around 15% of the vote in the European Parliamentary elections. A massive humiliation really for Macron&#8217;s ruling party. Macron therefore decided to call a snap Parliamentary election. It will be held in two rounds, late June, early July. And these elections actually could go very badly potentially for the French president. And he could end up as a lame duck president for the remainder of his term, which stretches until 2027, if his party doesn&#8217;t do well in these Parliamentary elections. So, a high-risk gambit, of course, by Macron. In the UK, the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, called an early general election to be held on July the 4th. The conservatives are trailing the opposition Labour Party very heavily in the polls, also, of course, this is a high-risk move by Sunak. He&#8217;s come under a lot of criticism for calling this early election and the UK is one of the only parts in Europe where conservatives are actually in real trouble. That&#8217;s probably largely the result of having been in power for 14 years and failing to deliver on a lot of the promises made by successive conservative governments. So a rather different situation in the UK compared to most of the rest of Europe, where we are seeing conservative parties really gaining a great deal of ground. The UK is a bit of an outlier in this area compared to the rest of Europe.

JOHN: Would you argue that a lot of the dissatisfaction is coming from the Right in the UK?
NILE: Yes, I think that a large part of the dissatisfaction with Rishi Sunak is that he&#8217;s not being conservative enough as prime minister. And so we&#8217;ve seen the rise of Reform, a party headed by Nigel Farage. Reform is now polling at around 15 to even 20% of the vote. These are largely conservative voters who have switched to Reform, so the ruling conservatives actually face a major challenge from Reform on the Right. Of course, the biggest challenge is from the Labor Party on the Left, but the Right in the UK is split right down the middle, and that will be a big factor in most likely allowing the socialists to take power on July the 4th.
JOHN: And what about in Germany? What are some of the trends we&#8217;re seeing there and some of the figures that are starting to define those trends?
NILE: In Germany, it&#8217;s significant that the ruling socialists headed by Olaf Scholz have done very badly. They pulled in only around 14% of the vote. Also, the Green Party did very, very badly. They&#8217;re the main allies of the socialists. They pulled in around 12% of the vote. On the Right, the Christian Democrats did very well, winning nearly a third of the vote. But the AFD political party, which in Germany is designated as hard-Right, they actually pulled in close to around 20% of the European vote, which was a big result for them. Now, I would say that the AFD are quite different from many of the other sort of Right-wing parties in Europe, and they&#8217;re somewhat isolated from the main political groupings in the European Parliament. Significantly, Marine Le Pen actually removed the AFD from her political grouping, the Identity and Democracy group within the European Parliament. So there are big differences among parties on the Right within Europe. But undoubtedly, the reality in Germany is that it is moving Right-wards. The Left is actually losing very heavily in Germany and I would expect to see next year with the national elections in Germany a conservative Christian Democratic Union-led government to take power. It&#8217;s hard to see how the socialists are going to survive with the national elections in Germany next year. There&#8217;s too much power in Brussels. And so most of the political parties on the Right that were successful in this election campaigned against the idea of Euro-federalism and against giving the EU, and the European Commission in particular, more power. We saw the sort of “Brexit Effect” in a big way in this European Parliamentary election.

JOHN: Speaking of Brexit, as you mentioned, Nigel Farage, the architect of Brexit and a pro-Trump ally, has decided to run for Parliament under the Reform Party. How will his entrance into the political arena affect the race?
NILE: Yes, as you point out, Nigel Farage jumped into the race as the leader of the Reform Party just last week. I think it&#8217;s a significant game changer in the sense that Farage is joining the race, heading the Reform political party and encouraging many more conservative voters to switch to Reform. No doubt about it, the conservatives are going to lose a lot more seats as a result of Farage&#8217;s decision here. I think also, secondly, Nigel Farage has a good chance of winning a parliamentary seat. He&#8217;s running in the constituency of Clacton, which is a strongly Euro-skeptic, pro-Brexit area. And if Farage ends up in Parliament, I think he&#8217;ll be a very important, influential figure. What this doesn&#8217;t change, though, in terms of the big picture, is the fact that Reform, even with 15 to 20% of the vote, will likely end up only with a few seats in Parliament because of the “First-past-the-post” political system. And so the conservatives will remain the biggest party on the Right in the UK in terms of parliamentary seats, regardless of how well Reform actually performs in terms of percentage of the vote, because Reform simply doesn&#8217;t have enough firepower to win a large number of MPs under the parliamentary system. So, I expect that Reform, if they do get a few MPs in Parliament, will be closely aligned with the conservatives in terms of how they vote in the next Parliament.

JOHN: While the Right-leaning parties aren’t uniform, there are a lot of unifying characteristics of most of these parties. What would you say are some of the shared ideas and policies driving them?
NILE: Yes, that&#8217;s a very good question. I would say that the number one issue in the European Parliamentary elections was really the issue of mass migration, cultural identity – a fear among many in Europe that Europe is taking in far too many migrants — and has taken in too many migrants over the course of the last two decades. This election was a fundamental rejection of mass migration to open borders. So, all of the parties on the Right who gained heavily campaigned on a platform of secure borders, limiting the flow of migrants into their countries, cracking down on migrant crime, and also fighting against Islamification in Europe. Also, high on the agenda are environmental issues as well as a rejection of net zero ideology. Nearly all of the political parties on the Right that won big in the European Parliamentary elections fought against what they believed as far-Left ideological dogma dictating hugely expensive green policies. A third factor was rising Euro-skepticism and a belief among many in Europe that the European Union has become too centralized. And so most of the political parties on the Right that were successful in this election campaigned against the idea of Euro-federalism and against giving the EU and the European Commission in particular more power.
JOHN: Final question. What aspect of these trends in Europe do you feel are important for an American audience to understand?
NILE: From a U. S. perspective, I think the European election results are going to make the Biden White House very nervous. Because some of the big issues that successful parties on the Right in Europe campaigned on are the same issues that American voters are going to be voting on in November. And the European electorate emphatically rejected the kind of woke, Left-wing, elitism that has dominated Europe in recent decades. And many American voters share European voters’ concerns over mass migration, open borders, rising crime, and higher cost of living. So, what happens in Europe, I think is important to what happens in the U.S. as well.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-air-force" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Air Force</a> spent hundreds of taxpayer dollars to hire a drag queen for “drag bingo” and a “glow party,” according to internal documents obtained by Judicial Watch. 
Drag queen “Miss Lexi Andrews” was hired by the 423rd Support Squadron at the RAF Alconbury Air Base in England for a “drag bingo” event on June 23, 2022, and a “glow party” on June 24, 2022, an <a href="https://www.judicialwatch.org/documents/dod-drag-shows-may-2024-pg-27/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invoice</a> obtained by Judicial Watch through a freedom of information request shows. The cost for the “bingo” event was $150 while the “glow party” ran the Air Force $250. 
The invoice was obtained as part of an investigation by CatholicVote Civil Action and Judicial Watch into the Air Force’s promotion of drag queens, which <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/air-force-base-cancels-drag-queen-story-hour-event-after-public-outcry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made headlines</a> two years ago after a drag queen story hour for children — scheduled to be held at an American air base in Germany — was canceled following public outcry. 
“How on Earth is it appropriate to spend our limited defense dollars on promoting these sexually themed events for children and adults rather than on advancing the military’s mission,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “As we see in these troubling Air Force records, our nation’s military is being ruined by woke ideology.”

“Miss Lexi Andrews” is a Washington, D.C., based “internationally performing” drag queen and author, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lexi__andrews/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to his social media pages, The Daily Caller first reported. 
Other <a href="https://www.judicialwatch.org/documents/dod-drag-shows-may-2024-pgs-3-4/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">documents</a> sent by the Defense Department to Judicial Watch include promotions of drag events at U.S. Military bases, including a story hour in Ramstein, Germany by “our local Drag King, Sauvage.”
According to promotional materials, one of the books to be read was called “The HIPS on the DRAG QUEEN Go Swish, Swish, Swish.”
Another event advertised by the 86th Force Support Squadron in Germany for those 18 and up was “<a href="https://www.judicialwatch.org/documents/dod-drag-shows-may-2024-pg-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Drag Karaoke</a>” at “Club E” with a “special guest from Monarchy of RoyalTEA.&#8221;
The promotion of the drag events drew <a href="https://www.judicialwatch.org/air-force-drag-story-time/">sharp criticism</a> from CatholicVote Senior Advisor Tim Huelskamp.
“The Department of Defense has once again proven that radical leftist ideology is more important than military preparedness and protecting Americans from tangible threats at home and abroad,” Huelskamp said. “After an entire year of stonewalling, the DOD finally returned materials from just one command in one branch, which confirmed what we feared – that taxpayer funds were being used to promote drag shows and radical gender ideology on military bases, with full approval from Air Force leadership.”

Four teenagers in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/germany" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Germany</a> have been arrested for allegedly planning an Islamic terrorist attack against Christians and Jews.
Deutsche Welle, a German public state-owned international broadcaster, <a href="https://www.dw.com/en/germany-3-teens-held-over-suspected-islamist-attack-plans/a-68800624" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that three teenagers — two girls aged 15 and 16 and a 15-year-old boy — had &#8220;glorified&#8221; ISIS and &#8220;declared themselves ready&#8221; to carry out an “Islamist-motivated terror attack” against churchgoers and police.
The suspects were arrested in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Associated Press <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/3-teenagers-suspected-planning-islamic-extremist-attack-arrested-109157987" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that a fourth teenager, a 16-year-old boy in the southwestern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, was also arrested.
Police arrested the suspects on pending charges of &#8220;declaring themselves ready to commit murder and manslaughter and preparing a serious act of violence,&#8221; the report said.
The teens planned to use knives and Molotov cocktails to carry out the attacks. Investigators recovered a dagger and a machete from the suspects.

The investigation was launched after officials suspected that the 16-year-old girl was planning to leave Germany to go to Syria to fight for ISIS.
Investigators found on her cell phone messages that indicated possible targets for their Islamic terror attack included churches and synagogues in Dortmund, Duesseldorf, Cologne, and Iserlohn.
DW reported that one of the suspect&#8217;s fathers had been under investigation because they suspected he was raising money for ISIS.

Tesla was forced to stop production at its assembly plant in Germany this week after a far-left extremist group destroyed a high-voltage pylon that resulted in electricity going down at the plant and the surrounding area.
<a href="https://www.dw.com/en/germany-tesla-gigafactory-hit-by-far-left-sabotage/a-68440976">Deutsche Welle</a>, a German public state-owned international broadcaster, said that the &#8220;Volcano Group&#8221; was responsible for the attack on the power grid.
&#8220;We sabotaged Tesla today,&#8221; the extremist group said in a letter, noting that it specifically targeted &#8220;the electricity supply.&#8221;
Police in Brandenburg said that the terrorist attack cut power to thousands of homes in the surrounding region, impacting approximately 60,000 people. Power was restored to most of the area later in the day but the power remained down at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Grünheide.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck said: “The attack on the electricity supply is an attack on our critical infrastructure. This must now be clarified and punished quickly. Violence and sabotage must not be a means of conflict.”
Tesla reportedly indicated that production at the plant will not restart quickly following the attack. The automaker has the ability to produce 500,000 vehicles per year, a number that Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly wants to double.
&#8220;These are either the dumbest eco-terrorists on Earth or they’re puppets of those who don’t have good environmental goals,&#8221; Musk <a href="https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1764998660406845620">said</a> in response to the attacks. &#8220;Stopping production of electric vehicles, rather than fossil fuel vehicles, ist extrem dumm.&#8221;
&#8220;Ist extrem dumm&#8221; is German for &#8220;is extremely dumb.&#8221;
German news media reported that the damage to Tesla will be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
“We are deeply, deeply shocked by what happened today,” said Tesla representative André Thierig. “Hopefully it will become clear over the course of this week whether we can start again at the beginning of next week.”
