New York Democratic Mayor Eric Adams will attend President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration on Monday after reportedly receiving a last-minute invitation from the Trump team.
Adams was initially set to attend two events in New York City in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, but his team announced the schedule change early Monday morning, ending weeks of speculation about whether Adams would attend the inauguration.
&#8220;In the early hours of Monday morning, the Trump administration reached out inviting Mayor Adams to attend the inauguration at the incoming administration’s request. Mayor Adams accepted on behalf of New York City,&#8221; Fabien Levy, a spokesman for the mayor, <a href="https://x.com/Fabien_Levy/status/1881332601279094942">posted on X</a> Monday morning.

Adams&#8217; attendance comes just three days after the mayor traveled to Florida to meet with Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach.
The embattled mayor is facing federal corruption charges and is set to go to trial in April. He has pled not guilty in a five-count indictment that accuses him of accepting luxury travel gifts for years in exchange for several things, including getting the fire department to approve a new Turkish consulate in Manhattan despite safety concerns.

Trump said last month that he would consider pardoning Adams.
“I think that he was treated pretty unfairly,” Trump <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-maralago-press-conference-44beea6cf8c93f070638842712bf3aca" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, although he added that he does not “know the facts.”
However, the mayor said they did not discuss his legal troubles at their lunch.

Adams has <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/26/white-house-eric-adams-indictment-00181241" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> that the federal charges were brought down on him in retaliation for his harsh criticism of the Biden administration in the thick of New York&#8217;s migrant crisis, which he said would &#8220;destroy&#8221; the city.
“The president and the White House have failed this city,” Adams said in 2023 as tens of thousands of illegal migrants poured into New York City, most relying on the city to house and feed them.
Adams is not the only prominent Democrat to take a meeting with Trump in recent weeks.
Another was Senator John Fetterman (D-PA), who met with Trump in Florida after his election victory. Trump later <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5082097-donald-trump-john-fetterman-meeting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> him “a commonsense person.”
Trump will be sworn in around noon on Monday. He is expected to sign a flurry of executive orders afterward on issues from immigration to gender ideology as his first official moves as president.

Scott Jennings, often CNN&#8217;s sole Republican commentator on panels, gave his take Thursday night on why some Democrats are looking to have a relationship with President-elect Donald Trump in the wake of his massive election victory.
Mayor Eric Adams of New York City is set to meet with Trump on Friday at Mar-a-Lago. Rumors circulated that Adams is angling for a pardon in the wake of his indictment on charges of bribery and wire fraud, but the Democratic mayor has also indicated he wants to work with the incoming administration and has been critical of the Biden administration.

&#8220;This is the first election in my adult professional career that both parties seem to have accepted the outcome of the election. There doesn&#8217;t seem to be any dispute thankfully this time about who won,&#8221; Jennings said.
&#8220;I think we&#8217;re off the slippery slope. That&#8217;s my view,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I hope these little slights don&#8217;t alter that, but I feel like we are about to go into a couple of years — I&#8217;m just going to try to will it into existence — of political peace. New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ troubles regarding alleged corruption just got deeper.
In September, federal prosecutors charged Adams with conspiracy, wire fraud, and bribery over events that dated back years; he was accused of permitting Turkish officials and businesspeople to buy his influence, and of <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nyc-mayor-eric-adams-indictment-fbi-5aad135d1808cb9d049fccd74604e5d4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">receiving campaign contributions from straw donors</a>.
On Monday, real estate construction firm owner Erden Arkan, who was named in the September indictment, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/12/23/turkish-construction-executive-adams-indictment-guilty-plea-00195930" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pled guilty</a> to a conspiracy charge. He allegedly committed wire fraud by using straw donors.
The September <a href="https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000192-2ee4-df4e-a3be-aee7ca500000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indictment</a> noted that Adams became Brooklyn Borough President in 2014. “Thereafter, for nearly a decade, Adams sought and accepted improper valuable benefits, such as luxury international travel, including from wealthy foreign business people and at least one Turkish government official seeking to gain influence over him.”

“By 2018, Adams – who had by then made known his plans to run for Mayor of New York City – not only accepted, but sought illegal campaign contributions to his 2021 mayoral campaign, as well as other things of value, from foreign nationals,” the September indictment declared. “As Adams’s prominence and power grew, his foreign-national benefactors sought to cash in on their corrupt relationships with him, particularly when, in 2021, it became clear that Adams would become New York City’s mayor. Adams agreed, providing favorable treatment in exchange for the illicit benefits he received. … Eric Adams, the defendant, sought and accepted illegal campaign contributions in the form of ‘nominee’ or ‘straw’ contributions, meaning that the true contributors conveyed their money through nominal donors, who falsely certified they were contributing their own money.”
“On May 7, 2021, Businessman-5 held a fundraiser for the 2021 Campaign at his construction company’s offices,” the indictment continued. “Adams, Businessman-5, the Adams Fundraiser and the Adams Staffer attended. The Turkish official did not attend but sent his driver to deliver several additional contribution checks. Prior to the fundraiser, Businessman-5’s construction company, at the direction of Businessman-5, had provided $1,250 per employee to ten of its employees. Each of those employees then contributed that amount to the 2021 campaign, with the exception of one employee who donated in his wife’s name, and another who donated $1,200 of the funds.”
“Adams then used those funds to fraudulently obtain public funding under the city’s matching funds program, which provides a generous match for small-dollar donations, prosecutors allege,” AP <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nyc-mayor-adams-new-york-b15b5b96cae3a5b01daf73fceffec5a9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Alex Spiro, a lawyer representing Adams, stated, “We know from the government’s own interviews that Mr. Arkan repeatedly said that Mayor Adams had no knowledge of his actions.”

The Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office charged Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the former chief adviser to New York City Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eric Adams</a> (D), and her son with allegedly taking $100,000 in bribes from businessmen in exchange for taking official city action to help them.
Ingrid Lewis-Martin and her son, 38-year-old Glenn Martin II, allegedly received the money in written checks that were then cashed and used to buy a Porsche.
The men who offered the bribes were also charged in the four-count <a href="https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000193-e061-d8da-a5df-e5e30abb0000" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indictment</a> for the scheme that prosecutors said lasted from January 2022 through June 2024.
&#8220;It was the purpose of this conspiracy for Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the Chief Advisor to Mayor Eric Adams, to use her authority and influence in that position for the benefit of Raizada Vaid aka Pinky, Mayank Dwivedi, and/or entities owned and/or controlled by them and/or others, known and unknown, in exchange for United States currency and other benefits, including benefits to her son,&#8221; the indictment said.
Prosecutors said that her son acted &#8220;as an intermediary between&#8221; her and the businessmen &#8220;to communicate with, schedule and arrange meetings with, and receive payment and other benefits&#8221; from the businessmen.

The businessmen were seeking help with getting construction projects approved by the city&#8217;s Building Department, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/19/nyregion/ingrid-lewis-martin-corruption-charges.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
A lawyer for Lewis-Martin said that the charges against her &#8220;will make no sense to any New York jury.&#8221;
“To think that a high-ranking city official would take a bribe in the form of a check deposited into a bank account defies common sense,” the lawyer said. “We look forward to the citizens of the City of New York, who Ingrid has served so admirably for decades, clearing her name after a trial.”
Investigators used wiretaps to record conversations between the defendants that were then quoted and included in the indictment. Defendants also communicated with each other through text messages and on encrypted apps.
Adams&#8217; inner circle has been <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/nyregion/eric-adams-investigations.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">engulfed in controversy</a> for month as several officials, including Adams, have been hit with criminal charges for other alleged corrupt schemes.

During the meeting — which was held at Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the New York City mayor — Adams and Homan agreed on the urgency of removing illegal immigrant criminals from America&#8217;s largest city, according to the mayor. The meeting came after Homan warned sanctuary cities, such as New York and Chicago, about releasing illegal immigrants back onto the street after they commit a crime.

The New York City police commissioner said at a press conference on Wednesday that the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson appears to be a targeted hit.
&#8220;I want to be clear: at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack,&#8221; said New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
The suspect arrived on foot outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan around five minutes before Thompson was seen walking alone without any security detail toward the hotel where his company was holding a conference, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said. The suspect, who appears to be a white male, approached Thompson from behind and shot him in the back just after 6:45 am, according to Kenny. The suspect continued walking toward Thompson, shooting him multiple times.
The shooter then fled on foot before getting onto an electric city bike and riding into Central Park. The last known location of the suspect was in Central Park, and Kenny said the city e-bikes have GPS locators on them. Kenny added that authorities still do not know the motive for the shooting.
The UnitedHealthcare CEO was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the shooting. New York City Democratic Mayor Adams told reporters, &#8220;We want to be clear to New Yorkers that this does not appear to be a random act of violence,&#8221; The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/04/nyregion/brian-thompson-uhc-ceo-shot/4f205e7b-c99a-5aa3-b2af-1a5af9f2aa14?smid=url-share" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The Times reported that the shooter appeared to know which entrance Thompson would use to enter the hotel.

A surveillance photo taken near the hotel showed the suspect wearing all black with a backpack and appearing to hold a long handgun. Another photo showed the suspect fleeing on a bike after the shooting.
At the press conference on Wednesday, police released a flyer showing the surveillance images and offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who has information on the suspect.
New York Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has been briefed on the shooting and called it &#8220;horrific.&#8221;
“Our hearts are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Thompson, and we are committed to ensuring the perpetrator is brought to justice,” she said.

The mayor also referenced the mental health crisis in NYC. &#8220;Then you look at the complete failure of our mental health system, a complete failure from the days of closing psychiatric wards and having those who needed help just turned over into the street without giving any safety net to accept them.&#8221; 
In 2022, Adams faced criticism from the far-Left when he <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/new-york-city-mayor-eric-adams-calls-fatal-subway-chokehold-a-tragedy-that-never-should-have-happened" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> a plan to hospitalize some severely mentally ill people involuntarily, noting the city’s “moral obligation to act.”
Adams also accused the media of downplaying Neely&#8217;s alleged threatening behavior by promoting photos of a youthful Neely working as a Michael Jackson impersonator.

&#8220;Look at the photo that they used to show the victim,&#8221; Adams said, &#8220;It seemed like it was a young innocent child who was brutally murdered, and it gave that impression when you look at the photo that was being used. It wanted to set up in the minds of people that we were dealing with a young innocent child that was, you know, just a Michael Jackson [impersonator].&#8221;
Neely, however, <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/05/04/jordan-neely-had-history-of-mental-health-issues-before-subway-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has</a> a criminal record and a history of mental health issues. According to several witnesses, he threatened the subway train and made it clear he was willing to die or go to prison for life, if necessary.
It was also found that Neely had K2 and other drugs in his system when he died. K2 is a synthetic drug, sometimes called “spice,” which has been linked to psychosis. 
Penny has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-the-daniel-penny-trial-proves-self-defense-is-under-attack-in-our-country" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in Neely’s death and could face up to 15 years behind bars. Jury deliberations in the case are expected to start Tuesday.

New York City Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/eric-adams" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Eric Adams</a> announced on Thursday that the city is ending its controversial program that gave illegal aliens hundreds of dollars of taxpayer money every week for food.
Adams&#8217; office said in a statement, &#8220;As we move towards more competitive contracting for asylum seeker programs, we have chosen not to renew the emergency contract for this pilot program once the one-year term concludes.&#8221;
The move comes after President-Elect Donald Trump promised mass deportations once he takes office in January.
The program gave debit cards to illegal aliens who were living in taxpayer-funded hotels, allowing them to buy whatever kind of food they wanted.
The city gave millions of dollars to thousands of illegal aliens through the program.

Rumors are swirling that ex-New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace three years ago, may run for mayor of New York City.
Cuomo has long told insiders he wouldn’t run for the position because he didn’t want to run against current NYC mayor Eric Adams, POLITICO <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/26/cuomo-mayor-adams-indictment-00181288" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The two share a similar base of moderate, black Democrat voters.
But Adams was indicted this week, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyc-democrat-mayor-eric-adams-charged-with-bribery-fraud-acting-as-foreign-agent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, charged with bribery, fraud, and acting as a foreign agent. He faces up to 45 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
That indictment may have changed the game for Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 following allegations of sexual misconduct by nearly a dozen female staffers. But with Adams’s legal troubles, some insiders are suggesting Cuomo may run for mayor.
“I think he’s going to run,” Chris Coffey, a former adviser to ex-Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Andrew Yang’s 2021 mayoral campaign, told POLITICO. “He was probably going to run no matter what, and a weakened, or out-of-the-race Eric Adams is a better bet for him.”
Cuomo also reached out to New York business and labor leaders last year to gauge interest in a potential mayoral run. But his spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, says that’s not going to happen.
“Governor Cuomo has spent a lifetime in public service fighting and delivering for the people of New York — that said, the speculation is premature as Governor Cuomo believes Mayor Adams is entitled to due process,&#8221; Azzopardi told The Daily Wire.
But, POLITICO reported, Cuomo’s political team is trying to create an aura of inevitability, even after the ex-governor testified before Congress about his disastrous COVID policies, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-cuomo-to-defend-nursing-home-covid-policy-as-congress-demands-accountability-for-13000-deaths" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Shortly before he testified, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic released a report that found Cuomo “edited” a state report that minimized the deaths that occurred in New York nursing homes during the pandemic, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-cuomo-edited-report-that-minimized-covid-deaths-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“They [Cuomo and his then-staff] want to assert that that order is exactly the same as the federal CMS, which it is not,” Rep. Marc Molinaro <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/11/us-news/cuomo-grilled-by-house-panel-over-nys-covid-nursing-home-deaths-dont-see-a-lot-of-remorse/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “The state order says, ‘You shall take back individuals and you cannot deny them solely on the basis of COVID,’ which left them no option but to accept individuals that we knew would cause risk to the other patients.”

“Andrew Cuomo was attempting to shift blame for what was a clear directive,” Molinaro continued. “When they identified and knew that the order was causing great loss, they subsequently cooked the books to suggest that the numbers of those who died in nursing homes were much less than we knew.”
His handling of COVID is not the only baggage Cuomo would carry in a mayoral election. He ultimately resigned after multiple female staffers, including former adviser Lindsey Boylan, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/woman-who-accused-andrew-cuomo-of-sexual-harassment-finally-details-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> him of sexual harassment. Boylan claimed in 2021 that Cuomo sexually harassed her “for years” and that “many saw it, and watched” and that she “could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks.”
“Not knowing what to expect what’s the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it. No one. And I *know* I am not the only woman,” she continued. “I’m angry to be put in this situation at all. That because I am a woman, I can work hard my whole life to better myself and help others and yet still fall victim as countless women over generations have. Mostly silently. I hate that some men, like @NYGovCuomo abuse their power.”
Boylan is now speaking out about a potential Cuomo mayor candidacy, saying, “There is no fight I will not take on if this monster thinks he can slime himself into power once again.”
“It already is retraumatuzing (sic),” she said in a post on X. “Frankly it never stopped being traumatizing legally because he never stops abusing. But he didn’t just abuse his women staffers. New Yorkers, Andrew Cuomo abused you too. He abused you with his constant lies, bullying, and self-promotion. For years.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) made his first remarks in public on Thursday after the federal indictment against him was unsealed and law enforcement officials raided his home.
Adams, who faces decades behind bars if convicted, was charged in a sprawling corruption probe that alleged he acted as an official of a foreign power, accepted bribes, committed fraud, and conspired to commit all the crimes.
&#8220;I want to thank you for being here this morning, and I want to thank the supporters of all ethnic groups that are here, particularly the men and women of the clergy that&#8217;s here that have joined me here today,&#8221; he told a group of supporters at a press conference. &#8220;And we are not surprised. We expected this. This is not surprising to us at all. The actions that have unfolded over the last 10 months, the leaks, the commentary, the demonizing. This did not surprise us that we reached this day.&#8221;
He asked that New Yorkers wait to pass judgment until they have heard his side of the story.

I will continue to do the job for 8.3 million New Yorkers that I was elected to do. And the 300,000 plus employees of our city government will continue to do their jobs, because this is what we do as New Yorkers.&#8221;
He said that it was an insult to the people of the city that people were claiming that he and his administration would be unable to do their jobs while the case moves forward.
&#8220;They are dedicated public servants, and I have been one of them for many years, and they are going to continue to do their job, moving the city forward every day,&#8221; he added. &#8220;It&#8217;s an unfortunate day and it&#8217;s a painful day.&#8221;

New York City Democrat Mayor Eric Adams was indicted on multiple federal corruption charges in an indictment that was unsealed on Thursday.
Adams, whose residence was raided on Thursday morning, was indicted on one count of Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, Federal Program Bribery, and to Receive Campaign Contributions By Foreign Nationals; one count of Wire Fraud; one count of Bribery, and two counts of Solicitation of a Contribution by a Foreign National.
The indictment says that Adams began soliciting and accepting improper benefits as a public official dating back to 2014, including luxury international travel from wealthy foreign businesspeople and at least one Turkish government official seeking to gain influence over him.
Adams &#8220;not only accepted, but sought illegal campaign contributions to his 2021 mayoral campaign, as well as other things of value, from foreign nationals,&#8221; the indictment said.
Prosecutors said that those who had illegally donated to Adams&#8217; campaign sought to cash in on their investment and were rewarded with &#8220;favorable treatment.&#8221;

Adams &#8220;sought and accepted illegal campaign contributions in the form of &#8216;nominee&#8217; or &#8216;straw&#8217; contributions, meaning that the true contributors conveyed their money through nominal donors, who falsely certified they were contributing their own money,&#8221; the indictment said.
He allegedly compounded his corrupt gains by using them to defraud the city and steal from public funds.
&#8220;New York City has a matching funds program that matches small-dollar contributions from individual City residents with up to eight times their amount in public funds, to give New Yorkers a greater voice in elections,&#8221; the indictment said. &#8220;Adam&#8217;s campaigns applied for matching funds based on known straw donations, fraudulently obtaining as much as $2,000 in public funds for each illegal contribution.&#8221;
Adams sought and received improper benefits from some of the foreigners who were illegally funding his campaign, court documents alleged, including paying for numerous luxury travel benefits that totaled $100,000.
The mayor &#8220;and others working at his direction, repeatedly took steps to shield his solicitation and acceptance of these benefits from public scrutiny,&#8221; the indictment said. &#8220;Adams did not disclose the travel benefits he had obtained in annual financial disclosures he was required to file as a New York City employee. Sometimes, Adams agreed to pay a nominal fee to create the appearance of having paid for travel that was in fact heavily discounted. Other times, Adams created and instructed others to create fake paper trails, falsely suggesting that he had paid.&#8221;
One of the Turkish officials who gave to Adams told him in September 2021 that it was his turn to repay the illegal donations he received by &#8220;pressuring the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) to facilitate the opening of a new Turkish consular building &#8211; a 36-story skyscraper &#8211; without a fire inspection, in time for a high-profile visit by Turkey&#8217;s president.&#8221;
&#8220;At the time, the building would have failed an FDNY inspection,&#8221; the indictment said. &#8220;In exchange for free travel and other travel-related bribes in 2021 and 2022 arranged by the Turkish Official, Adams did as instructed. Because of Adams&#8217;s pressure on the FDNY, the FDNY official responsible for the FDNY&#8217;s assessment of the skyscraper&#8217;s fire safety was told that he would lose his job if he failed to acquiesce, and, after ADAMS intervened, the skyscraper opened as requested by the Turkish Official.&#8221;
If convicted on all charges, Adams faces up to 45 years in prison.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams delivered a defiant message Wednesday night after news broke that he has been charged in a federal corruption investigation.

The indictment remains under seal, the New York Times <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nyc-democrat-mayor-eric-adams-indicted-in-federal-corruption-case-report?topStoryPosition=2">reported,</a>  but the investigation into Adams initially centered around allegations that the Democrat accepted illegal foreign campaign contributions from the Turkish government in exchange for favors performed as mayor. In recent months, prosecutors have subpoenaed Adams and his campaign for materials related to other countries, including Qatar and China.
&#8220;For months, leaks and rumors have been aimed at me in an attempt to undermine my credibility and paint me as guilty,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Just this past week, they searched the home of our new police commissioner, looking for documents from 20 years ago. Just one week after he joined my administration. Enough. I will fight these injustices with every ounce of my strength and my spirit. If I&#8217;m charged, I know I am innocent.&#8221;

Federal officials have investigated several people in Adams&#8217;s orbit, including Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks and former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who resigned from his post last week. Shortly thereafter, the FBI raided the home of Caban&#8217;s successor, interim Commissioner Thomas Donlon.
Adams said he would request an immediate trial so New Yorkers can &#8220;hear the truth&#8221; quickly and the city can get on with its business.
&#8220;I have been fighting injustice my entire life. That fight has continued as your mayor,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Despite our pleas, when the federal government did nothing as its broken immigration policies overloaded our shelter system with no relief, I put the people of New York before party and politics.&#8221;
&#8220;Now, if I am charged, many may say I should resign because I cannot manage the city while fighting the case,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I can also understand how everyday New Yorkers will be concerned that I cannot do my job while I face accusation, but I have been facing these lies for months since I began to speak out for all of you and their investigation started, yet the city has continued to improve.&#8221;
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams is expected to announce the charges against Adams when the indictment is unsealed Thursday, according to the New York Post. Sources told the paper that Adams will turn himself in early next week.
