A high-profile clean-energy startup is running short on cash and may fail to obtain a $1 billion government loan promised by the Biden-Harris administration.
Monolith, a company that makes a tire-strengthening material called carbon black and ammonia for fertilizer using a low-emissions process, is running out of the money it needs to expand its facilities, The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/a-high-profile-clean-energy-startup-is-running-short-on-cash-e05d28ff" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Part of the problem is the rising costs for the company’s planned expansion, which is a key part of the company’s future.
The company is now in danger of running out of cash by the end of the year, according to company documents reviewed by WSJ.
Some existing investors are expected to give Monolith more than $100 million to keep it going, but it needs several hundred million to get the company a $1 billion loan from the Biden-Harris administration.
Of course, the government could still fund the loan even if Monolith doesn’t meet requirements, either in part or under different conditions. And given how Democrats regularly fund green-energy projects, it’s likely Monolith will still get its massive government loan.
Monolith Chief Executive Rob Hanson told WSJ that he expects to start raising the needed cash for the expansion early next year, and a government Loan Programs Office spokeswoman told the outlet that Monolith is making progress on the milestones it needs to obtain the government loan.
The deal to give Monolith a $1 billion government loan was made in December 2021 and was the first commitment from the Energy Department’s Loan Programs Office under Jigar Shah, himself a former clean-energy entrepreneur, the WSJ reported. Shah made a name for himself, working on green energy programs and advocating for solutions to climate change, both major leftist policies that have seen advocates become extremely wealthy without showing meaningful results.

Once Monolith received the government loan deal, it was able to raise more than $300 million the next summer from investors – including TPG and Decarbonization Partners, which is owned by BlackRock and Temasek in Singapore. In total, the company has raised around $725 million in equity.
As WSJ reported, Monolith is facing the same problems as similar companies, including a high-valued battery startup in Europe that has had to cut jobs and halt a factor expansion because people aren’t buying electric cars. The outlet noted that several climate startups have filed for bankruptcy in the past few months.
It’s similar to the green tech boom and failure of former President Barack Obama’s first term when his administration handed out billions to green energy companies that either filed for bankruptcy or didn’t live up to expectations. The most famous example of Obama’s presidency was Solyndra, which received half a billion government loans before <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/solyndra-politics-infused-obama-energy-programs/2011/12/14/gIQA4HllHP_story.html">filing for bankruptcy</a> in 2011.

On Monday night, speaking at the Democratic National Convention, President Joe Biden insisted that as part of his effort, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers was installing 500,000 charging stations for electric cars across America.
But recent reports show that <a href="https://www.autoweek.com/news/a60702457/federal-funds-yield-only-8-ev-charging-stations/">fewer than twenty</a> have been put in place so far.
“Remember we were told we couldn’t get anything done,” Biden declared. “We couldn&#8217;t get anything done in the Congress. Well with your support, we passed the most significant climate law in the history of mankind. For $370 billion dollars, cutting carbon emissions in half by 2030, launching a climate corps, similar to AmeriCorps or Peace Corps creating tens of thousands of jobs for young people in the future who are going to make sure this continues.”
“Creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in clean energy for American workers including the IBEW installing 500,000 charging stations all across America,” he claimed.

Two years later, the program has yet to install a single charger.”

“The vast majority of chargers added in the US last year were bets by for-profit companies on the future of battery-powered driving,” Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-31/the-us-installed-more-than-1-000-ev-charging-stations-since-summer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> in January.
In contrast to Biden’s supposed effort, Elon Musk’s Tesla has been quite successful in its undertaking; as Reason Magazine <a href="https://reason.com/2024/05/30/7-5-billion-in-government-cash-only-built-8-e-v-chargers-in-2-5-years/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed out</a> at the end of May, stating that Musk’s company had a “network of Superchargers” that included “over 57,000 DCFC chargers around the world and generated an estimated $1.74 billion of revenue in 2023 alone. Just in the <a href="https://insideevs.com/news/705972/tesla-supercharging-network-roughly-6000-stations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fourth quarter of 2023</a>, the company built 357 new stations, accounting for 3,783 charging ports. &#8230; Around <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-31/the-us-installed-more-than-1-000-ev-charging-stations-since-summer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">two-thirds</a> of all public chargers in the U.S. are manufactured for Teslas.”

The Kamala Harris Campaign recently published an image of her with the text, “we are not going back.” Will Democrats seek to replace her or Tim Walz from the ticket as their numbers start to tank? All it may take is another trip to the grocery store or a fill-up at the pump for reality to set back in for Americans excited about her candidacy. Most Americans would certainly like to “go back” to affordable gas prices, groceries, housing, and electricity.
Regardless of the ticket, any Democratic nominee would likely continue down the same policy path that has wrecked the American economy and — perhaps most importantly — dismantled our energy dominance.
Why does energy matter when everyone is talking about inflation, the border, and global conflicts? Because everything we do depends on access to affordable, reliable energy—and that means our next president’s energy policy will shape the future of America and the world. The Democrats’ vision for expensive, scarce, and government-controlled energy, dependent on the whims of the weather, is as reliable as Obamacare is affordable, and it would spell disaster for our nation.
Kamala Harris’ record on energy is clear. She endorsed California’s cap-and-trade carbon tax, co-sponsored the Green New Deal, and cast the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act, which is, as <a href="https://x.com/dgelles/status/1635301875967983616" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one journalist</a> aptly put it, “the first major climate legislation…EVER!” These are the same policies that have driven California’s energy prices to astronomical levels and have left tens of thousands of people in the dark — literally.
In California last year, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/energy-oil/why-californians-have-some-of-the-highest-power-bills-in-the-u-s-a831b60e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">215,000 people</a> had their power disconnected for inability to pay, and over 40,000 of those households still had not had their services restored by year’s end. For those individuals, residential lease and mortgage terms are violated and homeowners insurance policies are canceled because requirements to keep utilities connected aren’t being met. These 40,000 people are at the highest risk of homelessness, all because they couldn’t afford to pay their energy bills.
This is not just a California story — though the numbers are much higher there, it’s a nationwide crisis unfolding under the Democrats’ watch. In California last year, nearly 27% of Californians missed payments on utility bills — compared to 16% nationwide, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey. The previous year saw <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/utility-power-shutoffs-4-2-million/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">5 million Americans</a> receive disconnect notices from their utility companies. The pattern is clear: the Democrats’ energy policies, embraced in California, are making it harder for everyday Americans to keep their lights on.
Under the Trump administration, Americans enjoyed the benefits of a robust energy sector. The United States became a net energy exporter for the first time in decades, and <a href="https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2020/10/f79/Natural%20Gas%20Benefits%20Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American households saved an average of $2,500 a year</a> on energy costs alone. Today, under the Biden-Harris administration, American families are <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-29/u-s-households-face-5-200-inflation-tax-this-year-chart" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paying $5,200 more per year,</a> thanks to the Biden-Harris policies that have attacked the energy industry and levied higher costs on everything.
Harris’s stance on fracking is particularly troubling for energy-producing states like New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming as significant portions of their energy are produced on federal lands. In 2019, she unequivocally stated, “There is no question I’m in favor of banning fracking. And, starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, right!” In New Mexico, nearly two-thirds of energy production occurs on federal lands, generating over $6 billion in tax revenue. A Harris administration would be a direct threat to this critical industry, leaving millions unemployed and our nation more dependent on foreign oil.

The consequences would be equally dire in states like Pennsylvania, and Ohio where auto production is a key economic driver. A Harris/Walz regime, with its bureaucratic deep state, would continue to unleash attacks against the energy and auto manufactures in these states. Chinese EV battery maker Gotion has already set up shop in Michigan, claiming U.S. federal and state tax subsidies while also receiving subsidies from the Chinese Communist Party. This is the kind of pro-China double-dealing that is resulting in, as President Trump predicted, a “bloodbath” for the American auto industry.
No wonder President Trump said he was “thrilled” with Tim Walz as Harris’ the VP pick. Not content with a centrist candidate to balance the ticket, Harris instead chose another hard leftist, verging on communist. The Democrats’ regime is no friend to American energy producers or the American automotive industry. And, as Harris has made clear, &#8220;we are not going back.&#8221;
In the end, the choice is clear. America needs leadership that will protect our energy independence, lower costs for American families, and strengthen our economy. The alternative is more of the same disastrous policies that have plagued California and could result in the United States being known as Kamalafornia — where energy is expensive, scarce, and unreliable, and where the American dream is slipping further out of reach for millions.

At Harrah&#8217;s Cherokee Center in Asheville, the GOP presidential nominee <a href="https://x.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1823825622835057096">said</a> he aimed to reach that objective in less than two years of a second term.
&#8220;I am announcing today that, under my leadership, the U.S. will commit to the ambitious goal of slashing energy and electricity prices by half — at least. Half!” Trump said. 
&#8220;We intend to slash prices in half within 12 months, at a maximum 18 months,&#8221; he continued, adding that if he does not fully succeed, costs would still be down &#8220;a lot.&#8221;

Back in April, reports said gas prices had <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/energy/gas-prices-again-doubled-biden-took-office-despite-white-house-claiming-costs-fallen">risen 50%</a> since President Joe Biden took office. Biden has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-admin-plans-election-year-summer-sale-of-gasoline-from-reserves" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sought to lower prices</a> at a time of high inflation with sales from strategic oil reserves.
Trump told the North Carolina audience that Vice President Kamala Harris, who has replaced Biden atop the Democratic Party&#8217;s presidential ticket, will not end the economic crisis.
Harris will only &#8220;make it worse,&#8221; he warned.

Trump <a href="https://x.com/GOP/status/1823840713672679877" target="_blank" rel="noopener">touted</a> his <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-social-security-income-tax-cut-here-is-the-impact-on-benefits/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">proposal</a> to cut taxes that senior citizens pay on Social Security benefits.
“To help seniors on fixed incomes who are suffering the ravages of inflation, there will be no tax on Social Security!” Trump explained. &#8220;We’re going to stop it.”
Trump also referred to his idea to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2024-07-19/trump-pledges-to-end-the-green-new-scam-video" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shift money</a> for renewable energy priorities under the Biden-Harris administration to infrastructure projects. 
&#8220;To further combat inflation, I will terminate Kamala Harris’ ‘green new scam’ and … give all of the unspent funds back to building roads, bridges and give it back to the government,” Trump <a href="https://x.com/rsbnetwork/status/1823831164315939195?s=46&amp;t=yVg_AIbZC0FnyCtU4qPVYw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “It’s like what she did, what they did, it’s like throwing billions of dollars out the window.”
Near the end of the <a href="https://x.com/greg_price11/status/1823834801570230721?s=46&amp;t=yVg_AIbZC0FnyCtU4qPVYw">speech</a>, Trump tightened up his broader election message, saying he wanted to put an end to the rising costs of groceries, gas, and homes. It’s just “common sense,&#8221; he declared.
Adding in calls to &#8220;stop the invasion&#8221; at the border and get &#8220;transgender insanity the hell out of our schools,&#8221; Trump rallied support for defeating Harris and her “country destroying liberal agenda.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has a track record of supporting aggressive <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/fossil-fuels" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anti-fossil fuel</a> energy policies over the course of his political career.
Walz has supported policies such as cap-and-trade and clean energy mandates over his career as a U.S. House representative and in his time as governor of the state of Minnesota. Some of Walz’s most aggressive positions on energy have come in the past few years as Walz has led his state in a California-style makeover of its energy policies.
“If you like the record prices and sky-high inflation delivered by the Biden-Harris energy agenda, you’re going to love Tim Walz,” said Daniel Turner, founder and executive director for Power The Future. “As Governor, Tim Walz based his agenda on the failed California model which may endear him to Kamala Harris, but not to struggling families. Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote for the failed Inflation Reduction Act, and in picking Tim Walz, it looks like she wants just another green rubber stamp.”
Walz began his career in government in 2007, getting elected to represent a rural Minnesota district in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2019, Walz left the House to take the governor’s seat. He was reelected as Minnesota’s governor in 2022. Here are a few of Walz’s most controversial stances on energy and climate policy over the course of his career:
Cap-and-Trade
Just two years into his role as a U.S. House representative, Walz, under pressure from the Obama White House, voted in support of the 2009 Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade bill. The bill passed the House, but died in the Senate, leaving Democrats from moderate districts to defend the unpopular legislation.
Walz later downplayed his support for the climate legislation by saying he never expected cap-and-trade, which refers to the creation of a system of emissions credits to trade and cap the overall amount of emissions, to be a part of the final bill.

&#8220;I think many of us, Collin included, [are] not altogether comfortable with the cap-and-trade mechanism, but there were so many other things in [the bill] that went the right way,” Walz <a href="https://www.startribune.com/walz-defends-cap-and-trade-vote-says-bill-was-likely-to-change/99954784">said</a> of the legislation during his reelection bid in 2010. “I never thought that the final version I would vote on would look anything like it, but it’s to move it forward.”
The bill preceded a wave of Democrats exoding the House after losing seats to the GOP in 2010. Walz was one of a few Democrats to hold on to a largely agricultural district.
Putting California in the Driver&#8217;s Seat of Minnesota’s Car Industry
In 2021, Walz <a href="https://apnews.com/article/technology-government-and-politics-business-environment-and-nature-minnesota-1808afe5d06edd7127b0566c29850915">embraced</a> California-style emissions standards for Minnesota’s car industry. The governor’s administration used executive rule-making authorities to tie Minnesota’s emissions standards to California’s.
The practical impact of the rulemaking is to force Minnesota car manufacturers and dealers to stock more electric vehicles for purchase, regardless of demand for them by consumers. Minnesota’s car industry leaders expressed anger over the new rules at the time, as well as Republican legislators who felt that Walz’s administration had abused his authority to cram down the rules.
“It puts California bureaucrats in charge of our industry here in Minnesota,” Scott Lambert, president of the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association, said at the time. “The state has no ability to modify or amend these rules.”
Republican Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka said in a statement: “His emergency powers may be over but his ego trip is not, and it looks like ‘One Minnesota’ is just ‘Walz’s Minnesota.’”
Purging Fossil Fuels From Minnesota’s Grid
Walz signed legislation in 2023 <a href="https://mn.gov/commerce/news/?id=17-563384">committing</a> Minnesota’s utility companies to drawing 100% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2040. In signing the law, Walz cited the threat from “climate change.”
“Climate change impacts lives and livelihoods in every corner of our state,” he said in a statement at the time. “Minnesota will continue to lead the way on combatting climate change and we’ll create clean energy jobs in the process.”

Former President Donald Trump said over the weekend that if he wins the presidential election this fall that he will unleash America&#8217;s energy production.
Trump made the remarks during a pre-taped interview that aired Sunday on Fox News&#8217; &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; with host Maria Bartiromo.
&#8220;We&#8217;re going to get energy way down. Drill, baby, drill,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We have more energy — we have more liquid gold, as I call it, under our feet than Saudi Arabia, than Russia, than anybody. We&#8217;re going to be energy-dominant, we&#8217;re going to make a fortune, we&#8217;re going to supply it all over Europe, all over the world. We&#8217;re going to be double and triple what they&#8217;re doing. We&#8217;re going to have tremendous energy, and we&#8217;re going to lower our prices of energy.&#8221;

He added that he wanted to bring back tariffs because he believes that they will protect the U.S. auto industry.
&#8220;Those people in Michigan that love me and that I love, and they&#8217;re going to give us a victory because their auto industry won&#8217;t exist in two years, if she [Harris] gets elected — China is going to make, and other countries are going to make, all the cars. The largest U.S. producer of solar panels donated $1.5 million to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, reportedly spent $2.8 million lobbying the Biden administration and Congress after Biden was inaugurated, then reaped enormous financial benefits from Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.
Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which got nary a single Republican vote in Congress, allotted an estimated $1 trillion for environmental spending. Since Biden signed it into law in 2022, Arizona-based First Solar’s stock price has doubled.
“[I]ts profits have soared thanks to new federal subsidies that could be worth as much as $10 billion over a decade,” the Associated Press (AP) <a href="https://apnews.com/article/biden-solar-inflation-reduction-act-dca914675cd0855004214d82aab5b10c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, adding, “The company will benefit from billions of dollars in lucrative tax credits for domestic clean energy manufacturers.”
After Biden signed the bill, First Solar’s executives and lobbyists “met at least four times in late 2022 and 2023 with administration officials, including John Podesta, who oversaw the measure’s environmental provisions,” the AP noted.
Last December, First Solar sold roughly $650 million of tax credits to a tech company. The company could use tax credits of as much as 16 cents per watt for a solar module.

Meanwhile, investors in the company who donated huge sums to Biden’s 2020 campaign have been raking in the cash. Farhad Ebrahimi, co-founder of the software company Quark who owns roughly 5% stake in First Solar, donated at least $1 million to Biden’s campaign four years ago. He “was added to Forbes billionaires list in 2023 thanks to the skyrocketing value of his roughly 5% stake in First Solar,” AP noted.

Lukas T. Walton, of the family that owns Walmart, owned 4.9% of the company; he also donated $360,000 to Biden’s 2020 campaign and $100,000 to Biden’s 2021 inauguration.
In July 2022, the day after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and holdout Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) started secret negotiations to get the stalled Inflation Reduction Act to move toward passage, Democratic megadonor Jim Simons gave $2.5 million to Schumer’s super PAC.
Between that time and September, when Biden signed the bill, a hedge fund created by Simons bought 60,000 shares of First Solar, later upping its investment to 1.5 million shares, then selling them in 2023 after First Solar’s stock price had skyrocketed.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/russia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Russia</a> has overtaken the United States as the top exporter of natural gas to Europe despite the continent trying to break its reliance on Russian energy in response to Russia&#8217;s war in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin cut his country&#8217;s supply of gas to Europe following his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the continent responded by importing liquified natural gas (LNG) from the U.S.
&#8220;The US overtook Russia as a supplier of gas to Europe in September 2022, and has since 2023 accounted for about a fifth of the region’s supply,&#8221; The Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/15e7b892-c4f3-45b8-b375-80ef52e4b83c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. &#8220;But last month, Russian-piped gas and LNG shipments accounted for 15 per cent of total supply to the EU, UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia, according to data from ICIS.&#8221;
U.S. shipments of natural gas to Europe have since fallen to 14% of the region&#8217;s supply, the report said, which comes despite efforts from several European nations to sanction Russian energy, which would reduce Russia&#8217;s ability to continue funding its war through energy sales.
Experts claimed to the newspaper that &#8220;one-off factors drove the reversal,&#8221; including an outage at a major U.S. natural gas export facility.
However, the outage comes after President Joe Biden halted issuing new licenses for natural gas exporters, which has forced companies to delay signing new contracts with U.S. energy producers, Bloomberg News <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-15/biden-s-lng-freeze-delaying-projects-and-risking-us-market-share?embedded-checkout=true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) responded to the development by telling The Daily Wire in a statement: &#8220;The Biden Administration’s decision to pause approvals for new LNG export terminals has once again forced Europe into the pockets of Putin.&#8221;
&#8220;His decisions not only counter his climate goals, since Russian natural gas is 41% dirtier than American, but harms our domestic producers,&#8221; she added. &#8220;When it comes to Russia, Biden talks the talk, but his actions are doing nothing but supporting Putin.&#8221;
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also responded to the news during the most recent episode of his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast this week, saying that Biden and the Democrats &#8220;are united in favor of this policy.&#8221;

&#8220;They are demanding that the incoming UK government commit to working with other governments to agree an equitable plan to end the extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal by 2030,&#8221; the group <a href="https://juststopoil.org/2024/06/19/its-time-for-megalithic-action-just-stop-oil-decorate-stonehenge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Other people can be seen in the clip, which has garnered millions of views on X, intervening and taking away the fire extinguishers the protesters were using.
Wiltshire police <a href="https://x.com/wiltshirepolice/status/1803402484930535571" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> officers arrested two people following the incident in the afternoon.
&#8220;At around noon, we responded to a report that orange paint had been sprayed on some of the stones by two suspects,&#8221; Wiltshire police said. &#8220;Officers attended the scene and arrested two people on suspicion of damaging the ancient monument.&#8221;
Police <a href="https://www.wiltshire.police.uk/news/wiltshire/news/2024/june-2024/two-arrested-after-stonehenge-monument-damaged/">added</a>, &#8220;Our enquiries are ongoing, and we are working closely with English Heritage,&#8221; referring to the <a href="https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charity</a> that cares for hundreds of historical monuments, buildings, and places — including Stonehenge.
Just Stop Oil identified the protesters as a 21-year-old student from Oxford and a 73-year-old from Birmingham. The group noted the demonstration took place one day before the summer solstice is expected to draw thousands of people to the site.
&#8220;Orange powdered paint has been thrown at a number of the stones at Stonehenge. Obviously, this is extremely upsetting and our curators are investigating the extent of the damage,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/EH_Stonehenge/status/1803403879100375052" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> an X account for Stonehenge run by English Heritage. &#8220;More updates to follow but the site remains open.&#8221;
Just Stop Oil claimed the orange powder paint was made of cornflour and should wash away in the rain.
BBC correspondent Paul Clifton, who <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cw44mdee0zzo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> to the scene at Stonehenge after the incident, said he &#8220;heard a suggestion that because it is powder paint and the weather is dry and sunny, it may perhaps be removed without lasting damage, but they will need experts to inspect the stone before forming an opinion.&#8221;
In recent years, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/climate-protest-last-generation-brandenburg-gate-paint-9518c67e688628c89e65e106e346b900" target="_blank" rel="noopener">climate activists</a> have used paint to target various works of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-sentences-climate-activists-who-glued-themselves-to-painting-to-light-sentence-to-avoid-discouraging-future-protests" target="_blank" rel="noopener">art</a> in museums, <a href="https://www.fox29.com/news/climate-activists-spray-paint-private-plane-in-germany" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a private jet</a>, and <a href="https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/just-stop-oil-wellington-arch-london-orange-paint/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">monuments</a> in places across Europe.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden&#8217;s</a> war on the oil and gas industry has cost the United States more than a quarter of a trillion dollars in lost economic activity, according to a new study.
The Committee to Unleash Prosperity released the findings of its study to The Daily Wire after U.S. oil production under Biden has failed to reach the same trend line regarding rate of growth that was achieved under former President Donald Trump.
While the U.S. is currently producing more oil than ever before, it is only slightly higher than the U.S. was producing in 2019, prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
The study was conducted by Stephen Moore, Co-Founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, and Former Chief Economist of the White House Council of Economic Advisers Casey Mulligan, Ph.D., Professor in Economics at the University of Chicago and Senior Fellow at the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.
&#8220;The Energy Information Agency had predicted that the U.S. could produce as much as 15 million barrels of oil under current trends,&#8221; the study found. &#8220;According to EIA, in the second half of 2023, U.S. daily oil production averaged 13.2 million barrels, which is close to the peak reached under Trump.&#8221;
The study found that the average price of a barrel of oil has been significantly higher under Biden, $72 per barrel, than it was under Trump, $54 per barrel.
The productivity generated from each new well surged under Trump by 23%, but &#8220;fell significantly&#8221; once Biden took office in January 2021 through late last year &#8220;both in absolute terms and relative to previous trends.&#8221;
The decline in the rate of production reflects &#8220;rising extraction costs, which is one of the consequences of increased regulation, tax hikes, and investor unwillingness to fund petroleum companies,&#8221; the study said.

&#8220;Although the EIA lowered its forecasts in early 2021 due to new challenges oil companies faced in securing capital, the agency still anticipated productivity growth to return,&#8221; the study said. &#8220;According to their modest forecast, U.S. production should have already reached 14 MMb/d [million barrels per day] by 2022. But, in fact, production had yet to reach 13.0 MMb/d even by mid 2023. The surprisingly low production results are part of the reason why EIA cut its production forecasts in 2022 and, especially, 2023.&#8221;
Had the rate of production under Biden remained the same as under Trump, the U.S. would have produced at least an additional 2.4 billion barrels. The lost oil and gas production and increased extraction costs have reduced &#8220;cumulative GDP by about $250 billion.&#8221;
&#8220;Anti-energy policies in the United States enrich the major oil producers in Asia and the Middle East, some of whom use their wealth to fund terrorism,&#8221; the study said. &#8220;Indeed, they are enriched twice by our policies. One benefit they get is that subtractions from U.S. production are subtractions from world production that contribute to higher world oil prices. The second benefit is that undermining shale activity in the U.S. gives OPEC more pricing power, because we are no longer as able to respond to OPEC production cuts with production increases of our own. Indirectly, Biden’s policies regarding U.S. production are reducing OPEC production too.&#8221;
Moore said that the report made it clear that Biden&#8217;s policies were wounding U.S. national security, the economy, and global stability.
&#8220;This report makes it clear that the left’s radical agenda, led by Biden’s policies, are self-inflicted wounds that are directly contributing to the current economic challenges and rising energy costs hurting millions of working Americans across the country,&#8221; he said.

Biden’s War On Oil And Gas Has Cost The U.S. $250 Billion In Lost GDP: Study

Left-wing bureaucrats at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are working hard to force states to abandon reliable, low-cost, fossil fuel-based energy in favor of unreliable, high-cost, solar, wind, and battery-based power.
The EPA’s latest scheme includes a power grab for the grid by imposing several new regulatory commandments that states must follow under the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Air Act. The intended effect of these regulations is to replace the fossil fuel-fired plants that form the backbone of America’s electric grid with renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar.
I call it Joe Biden’s plan to wreck the grid — a grid which provides the energy needed to charge our iPhones, access the internet, heat and cool our homes, and power our schools, businesses, factories, farms, and hospitals.
This reckless and radical scheme jeopardizes the safety and security of America’s electrical grid and forces all of us to pay far more for the electricity we take for granted.
Indeed, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency — which provides electricity to many rural customers — projects a double-digit rate increase under the Biden administration’s Clean Power Plan 2.0.
The EPA’s pet project to force the grid to go green is also illegal — which is why my office is fighting these regulations in court.
<h4>The Good Neighbor Rule</h4>
The first legal challenge is to the “good neighbor” rule imposed under the Clean Air Act, which requires states to reduce ozone pollution from in-state sources transported downwind into other states. 
Although the EPA establishes national air quality standards, Congress has reserved to the states the authority to determine how those standards will be met — including those relating to states’ “good neighbor” obligations. This dual allocation of responsibility between the federal government and the states reflects the Clean Air Act’s “cooperative federalism” model. 
As the U.S. Supreme Court noted in Union Elec. Co. v. EPA, each state enjoys “wide discretion in formulating its [air pollution] plan.” Biden bureaucrats apparently never got that memo. In 2022, the EPA arbitrarily rejected the good neighbor plans of 23 states, including Indiana’s. To make things worse, instead of allowing states to remedy any alleged deficiencies in their plans, as the Clean Air Act contemplates, the EPA imposed a one-size-fits-all plan on the states. 
In truth, Biden bureaucrats aren’t interested in working with Indiana or any other state. So much for the “cooperative federalism” model; under this Administration, it’s do as you’re told. However, Hoosiers don’t bend the knee to D.C. bureaucrats, which is why my office has joined the attorneys general of Ohio and West Virginia in a legal challenge to the EPA’s “good neighbor” rule.
In addition to the dubious legality of the “good neighbor” rule, the EPA has failed to address where the energy to support the electric grid will come from after fossil fuel-based sources are forced offline.
The company managing the electrical grid for Indiana and other states, PJM, recently <a href="https://www.pjm.com/-/media/library/reports-notices/special-reports/2023/energy-transition-in-pjm-resource-retirements-replacements-and-risks.ashx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the current pace of new energy sources, such as solar and wind, would be “insufficient” to keep up with expected retirements of fossil-fuel energy sources mandated by the EPA.
The report explains that wind and solar energy sources are “intermittent and limited duration resources”—meaning the sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow. Thus, for each megawatt of electricity generated by fossil fuels lost under the EPA rule, it will take multiple megawatts of wind and solar energy to replace it.
Don’t be fooled by the Administration’s green energy gas bags touting the alleged superiority of solar and wind power. They may have a role in meeting America’s future power needs, but they are inferior when it comes to producing reliable power.
Joe Biden claims that his energy policies will make electricity more affordable, but Hoosiers know hogwash when they hear it. Great Britain and Germany live under the same mandates the Biden administration pushes here, and people there pay about three times more for electricity than Americans.
Rather than being dissuaded by these facts, Biden bureaucrats are doubling down. The EPA just unveiled the final version of a rule regulating greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. I’m proud that my office, in conjunction with West Virginia, is leading a 25-state strong coalition challenging the new rule—a rehash of the Obama-era “Clean Power Plan” found unlawful by the Supreme Court in West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency. Like its predecessor, Clean Power Plan 2.0 would shutter fossil fuel power plants, despite the Court’s rejection of the notion that federal bureaucrats can dictate “how Americans will get their energy.”
Given the advent of new technologies with an unquenchable thirst for electricity, regulations that reduce the power supply can only be called reckless. As demand for power grows and these radical green policies suppress supply, electricity prices will surge — jolting the most vulnerable Hoosiers.
Joe Biden’s energy bureaucrats are fully committed to their radical and reckless agenda to wreck the grid, despite the untold costs to Americans’ security and pocketbooks. That’s why Indiana and our partner states are committed to challenging their actions in court and pulling the plug on their illegal power grab.

California&#8217;s new gasoline price gouging law will end up raising prices at the pump for everyday Americans and could even limit the state&#8217;s energy supply, critics say.
Gas prices in California have already <a href="https://www.barrons.com/amp/articles/gasoline-prices-california-profits-cap-73601fa6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">topped</a> $5 a gallon this year due, in large part, to the state&#8217;s high taxes and tough regulations on the industry.
However, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom blames his state&#8217;s expensive gas on greedy oil companies.
The governor wants to cap the profits of gasoline producers, but critics worry this will burden California refineries, who will, in turn, pass the costs onto drivers and push gas prices over $6 a gallon.
Last year, Newsom <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2023/06/26/nations-first-gas-price-gouging-law-in-effect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an anti-price gouging law that establishes an industry watchdog and increases scrutiny on oil companies.
&#8220;These new transparency laws will help us track refiners’ profits and shine a light on price manipulation so Californians aren’t vulnerable to the greedy whims of Big Oil,&#8221; Newsom <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2023/06/26/nations-first-gas-price-gouging-law-in-effect/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last year.
The California Energy Commission is currently considering the proposal to establish a penalty for gas producers who profit too much off of California drivers. Siva Gunda, the commission&#8217;s vice president, <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/possible-gas-price-gouging-penalty-in-california-faces-uncertain-future/60723615" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the commission has not found any clear evidence of price gouging so far, although he added that oil companies are indeed profiting off of the multiple gas price spikes California has seen in recent years.
&#8220;We are still in the process of evaluation the opinions of the experts we have,&#8221; Gunda said. &#8220;What we understand is there is a divergence of opinion.&#8221;
Earlier this month, California state senators <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/possible-gas-price-gouging-penalty-in-california-faces-uncertain-future/60723615" target="_blank" rel="noopener">held</a> an oversight hearing on the new law.
Industry leaders warn a profits penalty could not only raise gas prices but even drive gas companies out of the state and curb the state&#8217;s oil supply.
&#8220;Chevron is concerned about the impact a margin cap could have on gasoline supply. An ill-defined and arbitrary maximum margin for refiners will not lower gasoline prices this summer,&#8221; Chevron <a href="https://www.chevron.com/newsroom/2024/q2/california-regulations-could-cut-supply-raise-gasoline-prices-says-chevron-exec" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in a letter to the state&#8217;s energy commission.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have also expressed concerns.
&#8220;Some of us come from very disadvantaged communities and they are the ones who bear the brunt of the cost hikes,&#8221; said state Senator Susan Rubio, a Democrat from just east of Los Angeles.
Even lawmakers in neighboring states worry their states could feel the effects of California&#8217;s gas penalty.
&#8220;We all need each other,&#8221; <a href="https://www.kcra.com/article/possible-gas-price-gouging-penalty-in-california-faces-uncertain-future/60723615" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Arizona state Rep.
