President Donald Trump and his transition team are preparing to launch his second term with a series of high-profile executive actions on critical issues like the border, trade, and national security. Promoting election integrity ought to be high on the list of priorities.
The federal role in elections is limited, and rightly so. The Constitution leaves the power to regulate elections with the states. But the Biden administration and its Democrat allies expanded and abused federal power to stack the deck for their own reelections. They failed, and now President Trump has the chance to right the ship.
Trump can start by repealing <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2021/03/07/executive-order-on-promoting-access-to-voting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Executive Order 14019</a>, Joe Biden’s unprecedented attempt to weaponize the federal government to help elect Democrats and defeat Donald Trump. The order requires every agency to focus on voter registration and get-out-the-vote activities in close coordination with partisan left-wing groups like the ACLU and the League of Women Voters. Small wonder, then, that the administration’s efforts were focused on driving turnout among college students, so-called “underrepresented groups,” and other demographics that make up the core of the Democratic Party.
Much of what the administration did remains hidden from Congress and the public, but what we know is shocking. Earlier this year, Vice President Harris announced that the Federal Work-Study program would <a href="https://mynbc15.com/news/nation-world/kamala-harris-says-government-will-pay-college-students-to-register-voters-joe-biden-president-white-house-2024-trump-election-november-federal-work-study" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pay</a> students to register and turn out voters, a policy only a hair away from buying votes with tax dollars.
The <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/top-red-state-official-demands-answers-biden-executive-order-attempting-register-illegals-vote" target="_blank" rel="noopener">U.S. Marshals Service</a> renegotiated jail contracts across the country to require officials to provide voter registration materials to federal prisoners, with no apparent regard for whether they are eligible to vote or are even citizens.
And the <a href="https://www.sba.gov/article/2024/03/19/sba-administrator-guzman-announces-agencys-first-ever-voter-registration-agreement-michigan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Small Business Administration</a> signed an unprecedented decade-long voter registration agreement with Democrat officials in Michigan, just weeks after a mass protest vote in the Democratic Primary revealed huge problems there for the Biden campaign.
Each of these, and the countless other rules, “Dear Colleague” letters, and agency actions that resulted from the Biden order should be systematically identified and undone. Existing contracts with third party groups for voter registration, mobilization, and related activities should be terminated. President Trump should issue his own order affirmatively banning any federal involvement in voter registration and turnout activities in the future, unless federal law explicitly requires it. The Trump administration should also release the planning documents and records the Biden administration has refused to disclose to Congress. And the Justice Department should consider opening investigations if the evidence suggests that officials violated federal laws like the Hatch Act by using their offices to illegally influence the election. 
Speaking of DOJ, under Merrick Garland the agency has chosen to spend its resources attacking popular voting laws in red states like Georgia and suing to force Virginia to add self-identified noncitizens to the rolls ahead of the election. Incoming Attorney General Pam Bondi has the chance to end that nonsense and refocus the Department on investigating and prosecuting election crimes like noncitizen voting. Rather than support Marc Elias-backed lawsuits, Trump’s DOJ should aggressively defend voter ID laws, citizenship requirements, and other commonsense election integrity measures against baseless attacks in the courts. And the Department could go on offense, suing states with bloated voter rolls for violating the National Voter Registration Act’s clear requirements to maintain clean and accurate lists.

The Trump administration should also make it far easier for state officials to use federal records to identify and remove ineligible noncitizens from the voter rolls. Under Biden, the federal government made it a chore to access programs like Homeland Security’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, prompting states like <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ohio-secretary-state-sues-biden-administration-obstructing-removal-non-citizen-registered-voters">Ohio</a> to sue for access. The Trump Administration should require federal officials to grant access promptly upon request and look for ways to make accessing these resources as easy and inexpensive as possible.
President Trump has the chance to make election integrity a cornerstone of his second term. Dismantling harmful policies like Executive Order 14019, defending election integrity laws, and empowering our states are critical steps to strengthen the foundation of our constitutional republic. By taking bold action, President Trump can rebuild faith in the democratic process and help make elections great again.

A judge on Monday upheld a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/missouri" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Missouri</a> law mandating that voters show photo identification at the polls to cast a ballot. 
Cole County Circuit Court Presiding Judge Jon Beetem <a href="https://www.courts.mo.gov/fv/c/JUDGMENT.PDF?courtCode=19&amp;di=3366631" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruled</a> that multiple groups that alleged the state’s voter ID laws were unconstitutional “failed to prove their case.” Beetem said Missouri’s law was a &#8220;reasonable&#8221; deterrent for voter fraud and did not violate the rights of those who challenged the measure. 
“Requiring photo identification at the polls is a reasonable way to deter potential voter impersonation,” the judge wrote. “It is not irrational or arbitrary for the State to enact laws that can deter voting fraud, such as voter impersonation.” 
The law, signed in 2022 and in effect for the 2024 presidential election, was challenged by the NAACP, the League of Women Voters, and multiple Missouri residents who claimed it imposed a burden on their right to vote. They argued the law would prevent many eligible residents from voting. 
Beetem was unconvinced, saying that Missouri makes it easy for people qualified to vote to acquire photo identification. 
“The State of Missouri provides free photo identification to individuals who wish to obtain it for the purpose of voting,” he wrote. “There was no evidence that any of the individual voter Plaintiffs were asked to pay money to obtain a qualifying photo identification from the State after asking for a photo ID in order to vote.”

He added that &#8220;any ‘harms’ to the organization resulting from the law are self-inflicted” and based on speculation. 
The judge ruled that these concerns do not trump the security the ID requirements bring to the election. 
“The State of Missouri has a compelling interest in promoting confidence among the electorate that the people who have voted in an election are the individuals who are registered and presented themselves at the polls.”
The ruling was celebrated by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who defended the law in court. 
“We went to court, we put on the evidence, and radical activists working to undermine our elections FAILED,” Bailey posted on X. “This is a HUGE win for election security.”
The order came <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/resounding-victory-judge-upholds-missouri-law-banning-trans-procedures-on-children" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the same day</a> that another judge in Missouri upheld the state’s law banning transgender procedures on minors.

Local <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/colorado">Colorado</a> election officials launched an investigation this week after they discovered that at least 12 mail-in ballots for the 2024 election had been stolen and turned in and multiple were counted as legitimate votes.
The voter fraud <a href="https://www.kkco11news.com/2024/10/24/fraudulent-ballots-caught-by-election-officials-mesa-county-reports-secretary-state/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was flagged</a> by election officials in Mesa County, a Republican-dominated area in western Colorado, on Tuesday due to signature verification measures. One of the ballots was flagged after a voter tracked the ballots and saw that it had been cast even though they had never received their ballot. 
“I am fully committed to ensuring the integrity and security of our elections. We are currently investigating attempted election fraud,” said Republican Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Bobbie Gross. 
Three ballots were counted as legitimate and cannot be voided though the voters can cast another ballot, NBC <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/colorado-election-officials-fraudulent-ballots-rcna177153" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The ballots were reportedly flagged by the signature verification process, but were approved by an election judge, who has since been “reassigned,” according to Colorado Public Radio.
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, said that while it was “unfortunate” that the ballots had been counted, the state’s election &#8220;system did work,&#8221; adding that they were still determining motive. Which candidates the ballots were marked for was not disclosed by the officials. 
Griswold <a href="https://www.coloradosos.gov/pubs/newsRoom/pressReleases/2024/PR20241024BallotFraud.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the investigation on Thursday, which Gross suggested may compromise the county’s criminal investigation. 
“Our priority is to handle this investigation with the utmost care and diligence, and I believe that prematurely releasing details could compromise our ability to hold those responsible accountable,” Gross said. “While we understand the Secretary of State’s desire to make public statements, this is our community and our investigation.”
Gross said that the county would share further information on the investigation when “it is responsible to do so.”

“It is critical that we follow proper procedures to ensure a thorough and effective investigation without tipping off those involved,” she said. “The people of Mesa County deserve transparency and accountability, but it must be done in a manner that protects the integrity of the investigation.”
“We ask for patience as we proceed with caution to ensure a just and fair outcome for our community,” Gross added. “I am committed to transparency and will provide updates as the situation evolves.”
Over 27,000 votes have already been counted in Mesa County, which went for former President Donald Trump by almost 30 points in 2020. A previous <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/swing-state-voters-receive-mail-ballots-for-relatives-who-died-moved-away" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Wire investigation</a> documented that people across the country had been receiving ballots for others who had moved away or even people who had died.

An 81-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illinois" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Illinois</a> man was shocked to receive a mail-in ballot for his wife, who died in October 2022. 
George, who lives in Kane County about 50 miles west of Chicago, showed The Daily Wire the ballot which he found in his mailbox on Saturday. He also received a ballot addressed to his late wife ahead of the Illinois primary in March. This was especially confusing, George said, because he had shown his wife&#8217;s death certificate to Kane County election officials — who also told The Daily Wire that George’s wife was no longer on the voter rolls.
The saga has George concerned about the integrity of the presidential election — and he&#8217;s not alone. Voters in several swing states have reached out to The Daily Wire to share stories like George&#8217;s, and raise concerns about what&#8217;s going on with mail-in ballots.
“There are states that do better than others in terms of identifying and removing all forms of inaccurate voter registration,” says Honest Elections Project executive director Jason Snead, adding that there are “widespread” issues with voter rolls throughout the country.

George, who has lived in Illinois for over six decades, said his ballot issues began with the 2022 midterms, when he got to his polling place on Election Day, only to be told he couldn’t vote in person because he had a pending mail-in ballot. 
In the end, George said he had to go home and pick up his mail ballot, which he hadn&#8217;t used, and take it in to get it voided. He also brought the ballot that had been sent to his late wife, which he said really “upset” the election officials. He said he was eventually able to vote, but only after about 45 minutes of discussions with election officials and showing his wife’s death certificate to have her ballot voided.
While Illinois law allows voters to request permanent mail-in vote status for primary and general elections, George told The Daily Wire that he never signed up to get a mail-in ballot, and always votes in person.  
“My assumption is that they are just sending everyone they can think of a ballot,” George said. 
Kane County Clerk John Cunningham told The Daily Wire that George’s wife was no longer on the rolls, and that the county’s signature verification process would have caught any attempted voter fraud. 
“Even if someone got a ballot and they mailed it in, and filled it out, it would not be counted because the signature would not be right,” he said. “Because we check for signature on our voter database with the signature on the ballot and if they don’t match, then we don’t count them.”
He said that he did not know how she could have ended up with a ballot for the primary election.  
“She’s not on our records, so I don’t know how she would have gotten that,” he said, but said he couldn’t tell when she was removed from the record. 
Several current and former Arizona voters told The Daily Wire they have received ballots for people who had moved out of the state.
Skyler, a former Army medic, told The Daily Wire that he and his wife have received 2024 mail-in ballots from Arizona at their home in Colorado, where he is now registered to vote. Previously a resident of Maricopa County, Skyler said that he voted absentee throughout his military career before retiring in May 2024, when he registered to vote in Colorado. 
Despite changing his voter registration and informing Maricopa County that he was no longer an Arizona voter, Skyler said that received mail-in ballots for both the July primary election and the November general election. He doesn&#8217;t know how Maricopa County got his Colorado address.
Another Maricopa County resident told The Daily Wire they had been receiving a ballot for their daughter for the past three years, even though she had moved to Utah. They said they returned the ballots every year, indicating that their daughter no longer lived there, but that they still had been receiving her ballot. 
One Maricopa County woman told The Daily Wire that she had received a ballot to her home for her son for years, as recently as the 2024 primary elections, even though he had lived in Alabama for six years. 
According to Arizona law, voters on the Active Early Voting List (AEVL) are automatically <a href="https://azsos.gov/elections/voters/early-voting">sent</a> a ballot “for all elections in which they are eligible to vote.” However, voters are <a href="https://elections.maricopa.gov/voting/active-early-voting-list.html">supposed</a> to be taken off the list if they do not vote in two consecutive federal elections. 
“A voter may be removed from AEVL if the voter does not cast an early ballot in at least one candidate election over the course of two consecutive federal election cycles and fails to respond to an official notice from the Elections Department,” Maricopa County’s election website says. 
&#8220;If you don’t vote the ballot, why do they keep sending you one?” the concerned Arizonan asked, noting that her son has not voted in the 2018, 2020, or 2022 federal elections, but received a ballot for the 2024 primaries. 
She said that she also had received a ballot for a prior resident of a home she and her husband had purchased in Tucson. She said this raised concerns about how many ballots may be floating out there for people who have not moved out of Arizona, or even to a different home. 
When asked about concerns with mail-in ballots, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said voters could “fill out a voter cancellation form” online and pointed to the county&#8217;s “voter list maintenance practices” posted online. 
“Under Recorder [Stephen] Richer, more than 400,000 voters have been removed from our voter rolls due to diligent list maintenance. Our office reviews multiple databases to ensure our voter rolls remain as accurate as possible,” the recorder’s office told The Daily Wire in a statement. 
Voting by mail in Arizona begins on October 9. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is October 25.

With just 34 days until the election, issues with mail-in ballots have begun to make headlines. Last week, election officials in Madison, Wisconsin, sent out 2,215 duplicate ballots to the heavily-Democratic city. 
“This was a mistake,” said city spokesman Dylan Brogan. “The clerk’s office moved to rectify it as quickly as possible.”
In response, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) has <a href="https://tiffany.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/tiffany.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/Madison_Clerk_Duplicate_Ballots.pdf">called</a> for an independent investigation into the incident, saying that voters “deserve clear answers regarding the full scope of this blunder.”
In Pennsylvania, another battleground state, the Republican National Committee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rnc-says-pennsylvania-county-ignored-state-law-before-sending-out-mail-in-ballots" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a lawsuit</a> last month alleging that Montgomery County officials had sent out 2024 election ballots without conducting accuracy testing required by state laws. The suit said that the county, the commonwealth&#8217;s third most populous, did not conduct logic and accuracy tests before sending out absentee ballots.
Former President Donald Trump has long raised concerns about mail-in voting, arguing that it opens up the door to fraud. And while Trump has encouraged supporters to vote however they can in the coming cycle, he has said he would restrict mail-in voting if he wins the White House.
&#8220;Any time you have a mail-in ballot, there&#8217;s going to be massive fraud. What we have to do is, get control, and then we have to change it,&#8221; he said during an interview in August. &#8220;And it&#8217;s a very simple change, same day voting.&#8221;

Thousands of non-citizens and felons were removed from the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/texas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Texas</a> voter rolls since the implementation of a 2021 law that has been celebrated as a way to safeguard the state’s elections.
More than 1 million ineligible voters have been removed from the Lone Star State’s voter rolls, Governor Greg Abbott <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-announces-over-1-million-ineligible-voters-removed-from-voter-rolls">announced</a> yesterday. The cleanup of the voter rolls, which was made possible by <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-signs-election-integrity-legislation-into-law">Senate Bill 1</a>, resulted in over 6,500 non-citizens and more than 6,000 felons being removed.
“Election integrity is essential to our democracy,” Abbott stated. “I have signed the strongest election laws in the nation to protect the right to vote and to crackdown on illegal voting. These reforms have led to the removal of over one million ineligible people from our voter rolls in the last three years, including noncitizens, deceased voters, and people who moved to another state.”
“We will continue to actively safeguard Texans’ sacred right to vote while also aggressively protecting our elections from illegal voting,” Abbott went on to state. The announcement from Abbott also noted that the process is ongoing.
In addition to the thousands of non-citizens and felons, the cleanup also resulted in the removal of more than 457,000 deceased people and over 134,000 people who had moved from the voter rolls.

The voter roll cleanup comes as Texas has become an increasingly competitive state in some recent elections, with Republicans sometimes only winning by slim margins. In the <a href="https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/results/texas">2018 midterms</a>, for example, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz beat his Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke by just over 200,000 votes.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-removes-more-than-6000-non-citizens-from-voter-rolls">removed 6,300 non-citizens</a> from his state’s voter rolls after signing an executive order telling the Department of Elections to remove “non-citizens who may have purposefully or accidentally registered to vote.”
Gov. Abbott and Gov. Youngkin’s efforts to remove non-citizens from their states’ voter rolls come amid growing concerns that mass illegal immigration could harm the integrity of American elections. Elon Musk has <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/elon-musk-says-democrats-allow-illegal-immigration-build-political-power">accused</a> the Democratic Party of leveraging illegal immigration to grow their political power, in part by allowing illegal immigrants to be counted in the Congressional district apportionment process.

Thousands Of Non-Citizens, Felons Removed From Texas Voter Rolls

Virginia this week removed more than 6,300 non-citizens from the state&#8217;s voter rolls as part of election security measures spearheaded by Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
On Wednesday, Youngkin signed an <a href="https://www.governor.virginia.gov/media/governorvirginiagov/governor-of-virginia/pdf/eo/EO-35-Comprehensive-Election-Security-Ensuring-Legal-Voters-and-Accurate-Counting---vF---8.7.24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">executive order</a> instructing the Department of Elections to remove &#8220;non-citizens who may have purposefully or accidentally registered to vote.&#8221; Pursuant to the order, the state also identified and removed from voter rolls 79,867 deceased voters, and identified registered voters who had moved out of state.
“The Virginia model for Election Security works. This isn&#8217;t a Democrat or Republican issue, it&#8217;s an American and Virginian issue,&#8221; Youngkin said in a <a href="https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/news-releases/2024/august/name-1031585-en.html">statement</a>. &#8220;Every legal vote deserves to be counted without being watered down by illegal votes or inaccurate machines.&#8221;
Virginia does not require voters to present identification at the polls, which allows unregistered voters to impersonate deceased individuals or others on the voter rolls.
Youngkin&#8217;s executive order notes that it is essential for different agencies&#8217; jurisdictions to work together to ensure clean elections. Virginia identified non-citizens using information submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles cross-referenced with Department of Homeland Security and Social Security information. Virginia entered into comprehensive data-sharing agreements with seven states and, has received data from 42 states.

Other states could have a harder time purging non-citizens from voter rolls, however, because &#8220;Virginia is one of only three states in the nation that require those registering to vote to provide their full 9-digit social security number.&#8221;
Youngkin&#8217;s efforts to secure elections come after the Democrat-controlled legislature created extended early voting periods and mail-in voting. Youngkin said drop boxes are &#8220;under 24/7 monitoring,&#8221; but still called for &#8220;strengthening state and federal law.&#8221;
His executive order said that absentee ballots must only be mailed when requested by a voter, and that returned absentee ballots cannot be counted unless &#8220;the last four digits of a voter&#8217;s social security number and year of birth provided on the envelope are matched to the voter&#8217;s record in the statewide voter registration system.&#8221;
The order also requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to generate a daily file of non-citizen transactions, and instructs local registrars to notify county prosecutors when they become aware of an illegal immigrant&#8217;s attempt to register to vote. The order made clear that Virginia&#8217;s Attorney General &#8220;has full authority to enforce election laws,&#8221; and that the state will use only paper ballots going forward.
&#8220;In Virginia, we don’t play games, and our model for election security is working,&#8221; Youngkin said.

Four Democrat campaign workers have been criminally charged with absentee ballot fraud during the 2019 Bridgeport, Connecticut, Democratic mayoral primary.
Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced the charges on Tuesday against Alfredo Castillo, age 52, Wanda Geter-Pataky, age 67, Nilsa Heredia, age 61, and Josephine Edmonds, age 62, all of Bridgeport.

All four were charged with Unlawful Possession of Absentee Ballots and other election-related charges, prosecutors <a href="https://portal.ct.gov/dcj/press-room/press-releases/06112024bridgeport#:~:text=Inspectors%20from%20the%20Statewide%20Prosecution,Ballots%2C%20in%20violation%20of%20Connecticut">said</a> in a statement.

The State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) opened up a civil investigation into allegations of ballots that were mishandled which later turned into a criminal investigation after evidence was uncovered.
“Integrity of our voting process is vital to our democracy,” Chief State’s Attorney Griffin said. “I appreciate the attention and time the Statewide Prosecution Bureau put into these investigations. I hope these prosecutions will send a message that deters tampering with election results in the future in Connecticut.”
Geter-Pataky, who works for the city, &#8220;is the subject of recent absentee ballot fraud allegations, after she was seen in city surveillance footage seemingly placing stacks of absentee ballots into drop boxes ahead of [Democratic Mayor Joe] Ganim’s 2023 primary election against John Gomes,&#8221; the CT Examiner <a href="https://ctexaminer.com/2024/06/11/warrants-reveal-new-details-in-2019-bridgeport-election-fraud-case/">reported</a>. &#8220;That footage prompted a state Superior Court judge to overturn the initial round of elections.&#8221;

Days before the 2022 midterm elections, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon brought criminal charges against an executive of an election software company, saying Konnech Corporation&#8217;s election worker management software, PollChief, <a href="https://da.lacounty.gov/media/news/head-election-worker-management-company-arrested-connection-theft-personal-data">sent data to China</a>.
But after the action attained praise from Donald Trump and other conservatives, the far-left Gascon dropped the charges, and arranged to pay the executive, Eugene Yu, $5 million. He also placed the deputy prosecutor who spearheaded the probe, Eric Neff, on leave for 18 months, implying that he had bungled the case.
Neff has been gagged from discussing the case while he was on leave — an order which has now been lifted with the closure of the investigation into him. In an interview with The Daily Wire, he said his employer&#8217;s claims just don&#8217;t add up.
“The official story on my leave they would tell you is to sort out whether I bungled the investigation,&#8221; Neff said. &#8220;They can’t say that now because they cleared me. Especially after they paid one of the top law firms in the country to investigate me.&#8221;
Neff said that after conservatives concerned with election integrity praised Gascon for pressing the case, the far-left DA felt compelled to do the opposite. The New York Times said the case provided <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/09/technology/konnech-eugene-yu-charges-dropped.html">“fodder for election deniers”</a> despite the fact that it did not alleged that votes were changed. Yu’s arrest came the day after the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/03/technology/konnech-election-conspiracy-theories.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> mocked concern about Konnech Corporation as “conspiracy theories.”
Gascon’s backtracking restored the narrative. The <a href="https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-11-22/l-a-prosecutor-placed-on-leave-over-bungled-case-sparked-by-election-conspiracy-theories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LA Times</a> ran the headline for the story pushed to it by three anonymous sources: “L.A. prosecutor put on leave over questionable case sparked by election conspiracy theories.”
Los Angeles&#8217; Board of Supervisors went on to pay Yu $5 million, Neff says, &#8220;in order to create a media narrative that there was something wrong with the case.&#8221; Neff spoke before the board in his personal capacity, asking if the investigations were even complete, and if the county lawyers had read them and were familiar with the facts before approving the settlement. The board <a href="https://www.nbclosangeles.com/investigations/la-county-pays-5-million-to-settle-alleged-baseless-prosecution-of-voting-software-provider/3319783/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> the payment without any public discussion.
A lawyer for Yu <a href="https://www.kasowitz.com/media/client-news/kasowitz-secures-5-million-settlement-and-proclamation-of-innocence-on-behalf-of-election-logistics-firm-and-its-founder-in-civil-rights-suit-against-la-county-da/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the time that the charges were &#8220;utterly false&#8221; and that in addition to paying $5 million, LA had agreed &#8220;to publicly proclaim Mr. Yu&#8217;s innocence.&#8221; Neff, of course, was still bound by a gag order.
The felony <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23131926-yu-complaint-101322" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrest warrant</a> complaint said that although Konnech&#8217;s contract with LA required only Americans to have access to the data, &#8220;based on evidence recovered from a search warrant executed October 4, 2022,&#8221; employees sent personal identifying information of LA election workers to third-party developers based in China.
On August 18, 2022, the papers said, &#8220;Luis Nabergoi, project manager for Konnech&#8217;s contract with the County of Los Angeles, confirmed via the messaging app DingTalk that any employee for Chinese contractors working on PollChief software had &#8216;superadministration&#8217; privileges for all PollChief Clients. Mr. Nabergoi described the situation as a &#8216;huge security issue.'&#8221;
Yu&#8217;s lawyer, Dean Pamphilis, did not return a request for comment from The Daily Wire asking whether these assertions were false, and how Los Angeles came to be persuaded of their falsity.
Last month, Neff filed his own claim for damages, in which he says that after reviewing evidence that indicated that Konnech&#8217;s servers were resolving to a Chinese address, DA investigators &#8220;recovered several explosive pieces of evidence,&#8221; including statements from an employee who cooperated, and that &#8220;it was immediately clear that Konnech&#8217;s deception of LA County with regard to its practices with poll worker information was even worse than initially feared. Konnech was sending sensitive PII data to Chinese-owned and operated third-party contractors through Chinese-owned and operated messaging applications.&#8221;
Neff’s grievance said that after Trump praised Gascon in October 2022, each manager up to Chief Deputy District Attorney Sharon Woo, the top non-elected prosecutor, reviewed the evidence, and approved the filing of a criminal complaint October 13.
But in November, after the case continued to get attention from those perceived as conservative, management ordered the complaint dismissed, it said. Neff registered his objection in an email, saying that although prosecutors have discretion on what cases to bring, under California law &#8220;a prosecutor cannot use political gains as a basis for dismissing a prosecution.&#8221; Two days later, he was placed on &#8220;administrative leave pending an internal investigation.&#8221;
Gascon announced the dismissal of the criminal case publicly on November 9, 2022, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/charges-dropped-against-ceo-of-election-tech-company" target="_blank" rel="noopener">saying</a>, &#8220;We are concerned about both the pace of the investigation and the potential bias in the presentation and investigation of the evidence… As a result, we have decided to ask the court to dismiss the current case, and alert the public in order to ensure transparency.”
More than a year later, in March 2024, Neff &#8220;was informed that the investigation was completed and that no disciplinary actions would be taken against him&#8221; — though he was reassigned to a less desirable position.
Gascon&#8217;s office did not return a request for comment from The Daily Wire, including which facts in the indictment were wrong, and how it could be that the case was so egregiously wrong that the defendant was paid millions of dollars yet Neff did not do anything warranting punishment. It is rare for prosecutors to pay lawsuit settlements to people who are charged with crimes even if the criminal cases brought against them are flimsy.
In September 2022, Konnech sued the Texas-based group True the Vote, which has made allegations about widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election, for defamation and computer fraud, and claimed its accusations against Yu <a href="https://www.votebeat.org/texas/2022/9/14/23353874/true-the-vote-konnech-lawsuit-catherine-englebrecht-gregg-phillips-tiger-project/">stemmed</a> from &#8220;racism and xenophobia.&#8221; True the Vote said it played a “small role” in the LA case.
In December 2022, Konnech employee Grant Bradley sued Yu and the firm, <a href="https://cdn01.dailycaller.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/CC-Summons-And-Complaint-COMPLAINT-FILED-WITH-FEE-22-000853-CZ-C30-CZ-OTHER-GENERAL-CIVIL.pdf">alleging</a> that he &#8220;witnessed customer&#8217;s data (specifically poll watcher information) being made accessible to foreign nationals from China,&#8221; and that managers instructed him not to worry about it because &#8220;everyone&#8221; was using Chinese programmers. He also said Yu solicited him to violate campaign finance law by making a donation to a politician for which he would be reimbursed by Yu.
The case was dismissed &#8220;with prejudice and without costs or fees&#8221; in February 2024, according to court records, suggesting a possible settlement.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is ramping up efforts to monitor and crack down on election-related threats ahead of the 2024 election.
DOJ officials announced on Monday that the department is prepared to “aggressively investigate and prosecute” those who criminally interfere with election processes, such as making threats against poll workers.
“If you threaten to harm or kill an election worker, volunteer or official, the Justice Department will find you and we will hold you accountable,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said, according to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/13/justice-department-election-threat-technology-00157686" target="_blank" rel="noopener">POLITICO</a>. “The public servants who administer our elections must be able to do their jobs without fearing for their safety or their families. We will aggressively investigate and prosecute those who threaten election workers.”
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said that the “democratic process and the public servants who protect it have been under attack like never before,” according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/05/14/justice-department-election-workers-threats-ai-technology" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Axios</a>. Monaco added that artificial intelligence has created “new avenues” for bad actors to “hide their identities” and “misinform and threaten voters,” according to POLITICO.
“A particularly disturbing trend across these cases is the way perpetrators use new technologies to mask their identities and communicate their threats,” Monaco said. “Today, criminals use a range of anonymizing technologies, not just burner phones and social media.”
“These advanced tools are providing new avenues for bad actors to hide their identities and obscure sources of threats,” she continued. “They’re providing new avenues to misinform and threaten voters through deep fakes, spreading altered video or cloned audio impersonating trusted voices, and providing new avenues to recruit and radicalize with incendiary social media content that accelerates online hate and harassment.”

Monaco said that in cases that involve the use of such “advanced tools” that make crimes “more dangerous and more impactful, the Department of Justice will seek enhanced sentences.”
The DOJ under President Joe Biden has focused significant resources on pursuing election-related charges, such as those related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. The department’s focus has <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/media/press-releases/fbi-whistleblower-alleges-bureau-took-agents-off-child-sex-abuse-cases-to" target="_blank" rel="noopener">re-routed</a> resources away from other significant areas of criminal conduct, such as child sex abuse, according to an FBI whistleblower.
The Justice Department has also prioritized cases against pro-life protesters, which Republicans allege have become victims of political prosecution under the Biden administration. GOP lawmakers <a href="https://www.lee.senate.gov/2023/10/sen-lee-rep-roy-team-up-to-repeal-the-face-act" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> that federal laws restricting protests have been used unequally against pro-life protesters.

Biden DOJ Vows To ‘Aggressively Investigate And Prosecute’ Election Crimes In 2024

The Michigan Democrat-controlled Senate passed a bill earlier this week that would ban bipartisan election boards from investigating voter fraud and make it more difficult — in some circumstances — to start a recount.
The legislation, <a href="https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Bills/Bill?ObjectName=2023-SB-0603" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate Bill 603</a>, was passed along party lines on Tuesday and drew harsh criticism from Republican state lawmakers, who say that if the bill becomes law, “there’s nothing that can be done” if a board of state canvassers sees or suspects election fraud, Bridge Michigan <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/election-recount-reforms-pass-michigan-senate-over-gop-objections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Democrats, however, argue that voter fraud investigations should be handled by law enforcement.
“We’ve got other areas of law that talk about fraud, that talk about tampering, but when we’re talking about a recount &#8230; let’s make sure that what we’re talking about with a recount is the actual re-tally of the votes,” said Democratic state Sen. Stephanie Chang, who introduced the bill.
Currently, state boards of canvassers — made up of two Democrats and two Republicans — have the authority to investigate suspected voter fraud or ballot tampering.
“Senate Bill 603 ends the ability of local officials to investigate potential fraud, illegal activity, or even ballot tampering during a recount by deleting current provisions in Michigan election law that give this authority to bipartisan county boards of canvassers,” <a href="https://www.misenategop.com/johnson-blasts-bills-that-strip-ability-to-investigate-election-fraud-during-recounts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Republican state Sen. Ruth Johnson, who previously served as Michigan’s Secretary of State. “These are time-honored checks and balances that exist in our system.”
“If we want people to have faith in the electoral process, we should not be taking away people’s rights to have allegations of election fraud investigated during a recount,” Johnson added. “There is a process in place now that empowers bipartisan boards of canvassers to play this role, and it simply should not be removed from the law.”
Along with preventing boards of canvassers from looking into potential election fraud, the state Senate bill would also increase the cost of a recount to between $250 and $500, Bridge Michigan reported. Candidates are required to pay the amount if they request a recount but are refunded if the election result changes after a recount.
Additionally, the bill would change the automatic recount threshold from a 2,000-vote difference to a 0.1% difference, which in the 2022 Michigan gubernatorial race would have been 4,391 votes, according to Bridge Michigan. If passed into law, the state Senate legislation would allow for a recount in a precinct where the poll book doesn’t balance with the total number of votes counted, an issue that has been especially prevalent in Detroit precincts in recent elections.

Jim Runestad took his criticism of legislation further, saying it would essentially “sanction the potential legal ability to cheat on elections in Michigan,” The Midwesterner <a href="https://www.themidwesterner.news/2024/05/senate-dems-pass-bill-banning-election-boards-from-investigating-voter-fraud/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“Michigan Democrats are terrified Biden will implode and drag them down,” Runestad <a href="https://twitter.com/runwithrunestad/status/1785475513857069408?s=43&amp;t=CpiDDVgx8CP3JE3hAtL8zw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a>. “So today they bet the bank and went all out to codify election fraud into state statute with SB 603.”
Michigan is a major battleground state in the upcoming 2024 election, where residents will vote for president and for a candidate to fill outgoing Democratic Sen. Debbi Stabenow’s seat. President Joe Biden took the state by more than 154,000 votes in 2020 after former President Donald Trump won the state by just 10,000 votes against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Dem-Controlled Michigan Senate Passes Bill Banning Bipartisan Election Boards From Investigating Voter Fraud

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/republican-national-committee-rnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republican National Committee</a> and the presidential campaign for former President Donald Trump announced on Friday a plan to mobilize over 100,000 &#8220;election integrity&#8221; volunteers and lawyers across expected battleground states for the 2024 election.
The plan will include having people to monitor both polling voting sites and ballot tabulation centers in what the RNC <a href="https://gop.com/press-release/trump-campaign-and-rnc-unveil-historic-100000-person-strong-election-integrity-program/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> the “most extensive and monumental election integrity program in the nation&#8217;s history.” An “Election Integrity Hotline” will be set up in each battleground state where lawyers will monitor questions or concerns from those monitoring the voting. States typically included as battlegrounds include Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Nevada. 
“Every ballot. Every precinct. Every processing center. Every county. Every battleground state. We will be there,” said RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump. &#8220;The RNC is hiring hundreds of election integrity staff across the map – more than ever before because our Party will be recruiting thousands of more observers to protect the vote in 2024. These campaign officials in states are tasked with recruiting, training, and when possible, shifting poll watchers and poll workers day in and day out.&#8221;
The efforts were backed by Trump, who has frequently raised questions about the results of the 2020 election. 
“Having the right people to count the ballots is just as important as turning out voters on Election Day,” Trump said. “Republicans are now working together to protect the vote and ensure a big win on November 5th!”
The RNC said that it would have five primary focuses for observation and potential litigation including voting machine testing, early voting, election day voting, mail ballot processing, and post-election audits and recounts. 
&#8220;Election integrity is the foundation of our democracy,&#8221; said RNC Chair Michael Whatley. &#8220;Through this unprecedented program, we are mobilizing lawyers and volunteers who are committed to preserving the sanctity of our elections.&#8221;

The plan has already drawn criticism from Democrats who claim that the Republicans are trying to suppress the vote. 
&#8220;I think they are going to have a massive voter suppression operation and it is going to involve very, very large numbers of people and very, very large numbers of lawyers,&#8221; Democrat election lawyer Marc Elias <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/trump-rnc-vote-monitor-election-integrity-rcna148557" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> NBC. &#8220;I think we need to take the RNC literally and seriously — except on their numbers.&#8221;

RNC To Mobilize 100,000 ‘Election Integrity’ Workers Across Battleground States

A former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/wisconsin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wisconsin</a> election official was found guilty of voter fraud charges on Wednesday after she generated ballots for fictional members of the military during the 2022 election. 
Former Milwaukee Election Commission Deputy Commissioner Kimberly Zapata was <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/elections/2024/03/20/former-milwaukee-election-deputy-convicted-in-fake-military-ballots/72950576007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a> guilty of felony misconduct in public office and three misdemeanor counts of making a false statement to obtain an absentee ballot. Zapata’s lawyers claimed that she was a whistleblower trying to expose loopholes in the Wisconsin election system while the jury determined that she had committed election fraud. 
During the 2022 election cycle, Zapata used My Vote Wisconsin to obtain three absentee ballots using the names of fictional military members. The ballots were sent to the home of state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, a Republican who voiced questions about the integrity of the 2020 election. Military members do not need to show an ID to obtain an absentee ballot in Wisconsin.
Brandtjen reported the ballots addressed to fictitious military members, and shortly after, Zapata was fired and accused of voter fraud. 
“We rely on our election workers to maintain the integrity of our election system,” Milwaukee County Assistant District Attorney Matthew Westphal said during the trial, <a href="https://www.wpr.org/news/jury-former-milwaukee-election-official-guilty-election-fraud-zapata" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WPR. “Ms. Zapata took a tiny hammer and started chiseling away at that foundation. Instead of helping secure the absentee ballot system, she introduced fraud into that system.”
Lawyer Daniel Adams, who defended Zapata, claimed she was trying to expose vulnerabilities in the election system. 
“She was a whistleblower, she was showing the truth, with an action — an imperfect action, but a truthful action — what was going on,” he said. “There’s a huge flaw here, and if people don’t take it seriously, some nefarious person will do something bad with this flaw in the system.”

Brandtjen said she was unaware of why the ballots were sent to her and had never spoken with Zapata.
“If Ms. Zapata had wished to raise concerns about the election process, she could have done so anonymously by contacting appropriate authorities rather than jeopardizing her job and reputation,” she said. “I cannot speak to Kim Zapata’s intent as I have never spoken with her.”
Zapata, who will be sentenced in May, could face more than four years in prison and over $10,000 in fines for all four counts. 
Headed into 2024, election measures are expected to be scrutinized as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump appear set for a rematch. The Wisconsin Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wisconsin-supreme-court-bans-uses-of-drop-boxes-in-elections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously ruled</a> that the widespread use of ballot drop boxes in the 2020 election violated state election law.
