FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Tuesday that the FBI had uncovered documents pertaining to an &#8220;alleged Chinese plot to create fake mail-in ballots&#8221; ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
Patel shared a screenshot of a headline from Just the News that read, &#8220;FBI gives Congress intel on alleged Chinese plot to create fake mail-in ballots in 2020&#8221; — along with his own comment confirming that the FBI had, in fact, turned such information over to Congress for additional scrutiny.

According to the <a href="https://justthenews.com/accountability/political-ethics/fbi-gives-congress-intel-alleged-chinese-plot-create-fake-mail">report</a> published by Just the News, the alleged scheme involved the mass production of fake American driver&#8217;s licenses. The intelligence reports that raised the concern were from August of 2020 — and have now been declassified by Patel and turned over to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
Grassley knew of the intelligence reports, and had been concerned that they had never been properly investigated at the time. Instead, after President Joe Biden took office in January of 2021, his newly confirmed Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines declassified an <a href="https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/ICA-declass-16MAR21.pdf">intelligence report</a> in March stating that there had been no attempt by Communist China to interfere in the outcome of the election.
That report, declassified on March 10, 2021, stated in part, &#8220;We have no indications that any foreign actor attempted to alter any technical aspect of the voting process in the 2020 US elections, including voter registration, casting ballots, vote tabulation, or reporting results.&#8221;
With regard to China, the report said, &#8220;We assess that China did not deploy interference efforts and considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the US Presidential election.&#8221;
The report also determined that Iran had made attempts to influence the election in Biden&#8217;s favor, but had not been successful in doing so.

Biden&#8217;s vacation days outnumbered the 381 taken by President Donald Trump during his first term of 1,461 days — which comes out to approximately 26% of his time in office — and even managed to surpass the previous record set by the late George H.W. Bush, who spent 543 of his 1,461 days as president, or 37%, on vacation.
Former President George W. Bush had a slightly lower vacation-to-work ratio, taking 1020 vacation days out of his 2,922 days in office (35%). The late President Ronald Reagan and former President Barack Obama came in at 11%, and the late President Jimmy Carter vacationed for just 5% of his presidency.
Biden put them all to shame when, after being unceremoniously ousted from the Democrats&#8217; 2024 presidential ticket, he took 23 days off in a row beginning on August 8th.
Biden also made headlines when he issued 39 pardons and nearly 1,500 sentence commutations on December 12, 2024 — the &#8220;largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.&#8221;

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is taking further action against the 50 former intelligence officials who falsely suggested Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop was &#8220;part of a Russian disinformation campaign,&#8221; instructing agencies to also ban those individuals from stepping foot in secure U.S. government facilities, according to a memo obtained by The Daily Wire.
The Jan. 29 cabinet memorandum, first obtained by The Daily Wire, expands Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/holding-former-government-officials-accountablefor-election-interference-and-improper-disclosure-of-sensitive-governmental-information/">day-one executive order</a>, which revoked the security clearance for the 50 individuals. Sent &#8220;on behalf of the President,&#8221; it orders the country&#8217;s top national security agencies to &#8220;revoke unescorted access to secure U.S. Government facilities from the 50 former intelligence officials named in the Executive Order.&#8221;
&#8220;These individuals no longer possess a need to access secure facilities, and as outlined in the Executive Order, do not have the appropriate security clearances to access classified information,&#8221; the memo states.
Included in the list of individuals are prominent members of the intelligence community, including former CIA directors John Brennan, Michael Hayden, and Leon Panetta, who also at one time served as Secretary of Defense. It also includes the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and John Bolton, the longtime diplomat who most recently served under Trump as his national security advisor.

The memo was sent to the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Director of National Intelligence, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. It was also distributed to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, who is tasked with informing any other &#8220;clearance-granting U.S. Government entity&#8221; of the ban &#8220;to ensure compliance.&#8221;
The action comes as part of the Trump administration&#8217;s effort to weed out government officials who participated in political weaponization of their power. His initial executive order charged that &#8220;the signatories willfully weaponized the gravitas of the Intelligence Community to manipulate the political process and undermine our democratic institutions.&#8221;
Trump on Friday ordered several FBI officials who served in the prior administration to resign, telling them they will be fired if they choose not to. Trump&#8217;s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, faced a contentious confirmation hearing on Thursday, and pledged to &#8220;de-weaponize&#8221; the intelligence community.
“America deserves a better brand of justice and I’m going to give it to them,” Patel said in the hearing.
The <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/19/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276">initial letter from the intelligence officials</a> came in October 2020, weeks before the presidential election, after the <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/10/14/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad/">New York Post reported</a> on emails on Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop. The story stated that the laptop was left by the former president&#8217;s drug-addicted son at a computer repair shop. The letter, however, said the story had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” and this claim was used as an excuse to censor the reporting ahead of the election. The laptop and the emails on it proved to be authentic.
Trump&#8217;s newly confirmed CIA Director, John Ratcliffe, was Director of National Intelligence at the time, and from the beginning <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2020/10/19/russian-disinformation-not-behind-biden-emails-dni-ratcliffe-says/3712484001/">stated that there was no evidence</a> of Russian involvement.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-times-calls-chinese-dictators-clothes-hip/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times</a> story Monday about a group of “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-democrat-congressman-jailed-for-committing-election-fraud-to-help-democrats/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">far-right election deniers</a>” aged especially poorly when the same journalist was forced to write a story making their case the very next day.
The initial story claimed that a “conspiracy theory” about an elections software company having ties to Beijing was a pack of lies that left the owner, a Chinese immigrant, in tears. But the very next day, Konnech founder and CEO Eugene Yu, was arrested by L.A. County’s liberal district attorney for allegedly giving the Chinese government access to the personal data of nearly two million U.S. poll workers.
“I have never seen anything age this poorly, this quickly,” The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway quipped on Twitter.

Times reporter Stuart Thompson’s Monday story reported on the election integrity advocacy group True the Vote, which claimed in August to have hacked into Konnech’s database and learned that the company stored data on a server in China, which would be illegal.
“In the ensuing weeks, the conspiracy theory grew as it shot around the internet,” Thompson wrote. “To believers, the claims showed how China had gained near complete control of America’s elections.”
Yu told Thompson True the Vote’s claims were false and denied that his company had any ties to Beijing. Yu claimed to have received death threats and gone into hiding as a result of True the Vote’s allegations.
“I’ve cried,” Yu, who sued True the Vote over the allegations, told the Times. “Other than the birth of my daughter, I hadn’t cried since kindergarten.”
A day later, Thompson reported that Yu was arrested in Los Angeles “in connection with an investigation into the possible theft of personal information about poll workers.” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón alleged that Konnech had indeed stored American poll workers’ data on servers in China.
Yu was arrested in Meridian Township, Michigan, by investigators from the LA District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation with help from local police. Gascón said his office is seeking extradition. In addition to the arrest, hard drives and other digital evidence were seized by Gascón&#8217;s investigators.
“Data breaches are an ongoing threat to our digital way of life,&#8221; Gascón said in a statement. &#8220;When we entrust a company to hold our confidential data, they must be willing and able to protect our personal identifying information from theft. Otherwise, we are all victims.&#8221;
Konnech, which sells its PollChief election-worker management system software to local jurisdictions, had a $2.9 million contract with LA County. The software manages poll worker assignments, communications and payroll and collects personal identifying information. Konnech was required to securely maintain the data and prevent access by anyone but U.S. citizens or permanent residents, but investigators alleged information was stored on servers in China.
True the Vote officials praised Gascón, a liberal prosecutor who has been harshly criticized by conservatives for his soft-on-crime policies, for &#8220;rapid action&#8221; in the case. The group blasted media outlets including The New York Times for &#8220;unblinkingly&#8221; accepting Konnech&#8217;s version of events.
“Election integrity should not be a partisan issue, nor should media try to suppress all conversation about it in a way that benefits one party,&#8221; said True the Vote Founder Catherine Engelbrecht. &#8220;We will continue to report evidence of threats to our election process and work with law enforcement to ensure our elections are a secure space for all American voters.”

Dominion Voting Systems filed a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News on Friday, the first time Dominion has targeted a media outlet over its 2020 election coverage.
Dominion has already filed defamation lawsuits against former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-dominion-sues-rudy-giuliani-for-1-3-billion-over-election-claims">Rudy Giuliani</a>, pro-Trump lawyer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-dominion-files-1-3-billion-defamation-suit-against-sidney-powell">Sidney Powell</a>, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell. In its lawsuit against Fox, Dominion argues that the network “set out to lure viewers back — including President Trump himself — by intentionally and falsely blaming Dominion for President Trump’s loss by rigging the election,” the lawsuit says according to <a href="https://www.axios.com/dominion-lawsuit-fox-news-defamation-295ffe29-9a8f-4c91-82bc-989da9ec418e.html">Axios</a>.
“Fox, one of the most powerful media companies in the United States, gave life to a manufactured storyline about election fraud that cast a then-little-known voting machine company called Dominion as the villain,” the lawsuit says. “[E]ven after Fox was put on specific written notice of the facts, it stuck to the inherently improbable and demonstrably false preconceived narrative and continued broadcasting the lies of facially unreliable sources — which were embraced by Fox’s own on-air personalities — because the lies were good for Fox’s business.”
&#8220;These lies transformed Dominion into a household name,” the lawsuit continues. “As a result of Fox’s orchestrated defamatory campaign, Dominion’s employees, from its software engineers to its founder and Chief Executive Officer, have been repeatedly harassed. Some have even received death threats. And of course, Dominion’s business has suffered enormous and irreparable economic harm.”
Fox News denied Dominion’s allegations, telling The Daily Wire in a statement: “FOX News Media is proud of our 2020 election coverage, which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism, and will vigorously defend against this baseless lawsuit in court.”
In its election coverage, Fox News had on Dominion spokesman Michael Steele to <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/dominion-rep-responds-to-trump-campaign-impossible-to-switch-votes">respond</a> to allegations by Powell that the company&#8217;s machines had altered enough votes to flip the election from Trump to President Joe Biden. Steele said in the November segment that Powell&#8217;s allegations were &#8220;physically impossible.&#8221;
In February, the voting company <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/voting-company-smartmatic-sues-fox-news-others-for-allegedly-running-disinformation-campaign">Smartmatic</a> filed a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News, making similar allegations that the network smeared the company for profit. Fox News also denied those allegations, saying, “Fox News Media is committed to providing the full context of every story with in-depth reporting and clear opinion. We are proud of our 2020 election coverage and will vigorously defend this meritless lawsuit in court.”
Fox News has filed four motions to dismiss Smartmatic lawsuits against it and several of its hosts since the lawsuit was filed on Feb. 4. In a Feb. 8 <a href="http://press.foxnews.com/2021/02/fox-news-media-moves-to-dismiss-smartmatic-lawsuit/">statement</a>, the media outlet slammed Smartmatic for attempting to dictate its coverage and accused the voting company of attacking the First Amendment.
“This suit strikes at the heart of the First Amendment. Smartmatic’s theory is fundamentally incompatible with the reality of the modern news network and deeply rooted principles of free speech law,” Fox said in a statement. “FOX News has moved to dismiss the Smartmatic lawsuit because it is meritless. If the First Amendment means anything, it means that Fox cannot be held liable for fairly reporting and commenting on competing allegations in a hotly contested and actively litigated election. We are proud of our election coverage which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism.”

Dominion Sues Fox News For $1.6 Billion Over 2020 Election Coverage

Fox News filed a motion on Monday to dismiss a defamation lawsuit Smartmatic filed against the company for its post-election coverage.
Smartmatic <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/voting-company-smartmatic-sues-fox-news-others-for-allegedly-running-disinformation-campaign">sued the network</a> on Thursday alleging that Fox and several of its hosts – Maria Bartiromo, Lou Dobbs, and Jeanine Pirro – had defamed the voting technology company. A day after the lawsuit was announced, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fox-news-suddenly-cancels-lou-dobbs-tonight-fox-business-highest-rated-show">Fox cut Dobbs’ show</a> from its lineup on Fox Business, though he still remains under contract.
Smartmatic’s defamation suit also targeted former President Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani and Trump ally Sidney Powell. Fox News said the lawsuit was an attack on its “First Amendment mission” to report the news.
“This lawsuit strikes at the heart of the news media’s First Amendment mission to inform on matters of public concern,” Fox said in its motion to dismiss, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/08/business/media/fox-smartmatic-defamation-lawsuit.html">The New York Times</a>. “An attempt by a sitting president to challenge the result of an election is objectively newsworthy.”
The network argued that it cannot be held liable for statements made on its shows by Giuliani and Powell, who were both key players in the former president’s legal fights to challenge the results of the 2020 election. The network also said that the Smartmatic lawsuit did not identify any specific defamatory statements made by any of its hosts. In December, the network ran a fact-checking <a href="https://video.foxnews.com/v/6217414534001#sp=show-clips">segment</a> on election fraud claims on each of the three hosts’ shows that were mentioned in the lawsuit.
“The public had a right to know, and Fox had a right to cover, that the president and his allies were accusing Smartmatic (and others) of manipulating the election results, regardless of the ultimate truth or accuracy of those allegations,” Fox’s filing says.
In its lawsuit, Smartmatic claimed that Fox News and others orchestrated an election narrative that painted the voting technology company as “a Venezuelan company under the control of corrupt dictators from socialist countries” that was “responsible for stealing the 2020 election by switching and altering votes to rig the election for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.”
“Defendants’ story was a lie. All of it. And they knew it. But, it was a story that sold. Millions of individuals who saw and read Defendants’ reports believed them to be true,” the lawsuit said. “Smartmatic and its officers began to receive hate mail and death threats. Smartmatic’s clients and potential clients began to panic. The company’s reputation for providing transparent, auditable, and secure election technology and software was irreparably harmed. Overnight, Smartmatic went from an under-the-radar election technology and software company with a track record of success to the villain in Defendants’ disinformation campaign.”
“Smartmatic’s loss was Defendants’ gain. Fox News used the story to preserve its grip on viewers and readers and curry favors with the outgoing administration – one of their anchors was even able to get a pardon for her ex-husband,” the lawsuit continued. “Ms. Powell used the story to raise money and enrich herself. Mr. Giuliani used the story to guarantee himself a flow of funds from the sitting President and to sell products. Defendants knew the story could not change the outcome of the election. It could, and did, make them money.”

The voting company Smartmatic filed a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News’ parent company Fox Corporation, as well as Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and Trump ally Sidney Powell on Thursday.
Smartmatic accused the defendants of participating in a cynical campaign to capitalize off the election, asserting that each privately knew that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had won the election. The defendants, Smartmatic alleged, used the election loss as an opportunity to smear the voting company for profit.
“In their story, Smartmatic was a Venezuelan company under the control of corrupt dictators from socialist countries,” the company’s <a href="https://www.smartmatic.com/uploads/Smartmatic_Complaint_Against_Fox_Corporation.pdf">complaint</a> says. “In their story, Smartmatic’s election technology and software were used in many of the states with close outcomes. And, in their story, Smartmatic was responsible for stealing the 2020 election by switching and altering votes to rig the election for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.”

Fox News used the story to preserve its grip on viewers and readers and curry favors with the outgoing administration – one of their anchors was even able to get a pardon for her ex-husband,” the complaint says. “Ms. Powell used the story to raise money and enrich herself. Mr. Giuliani used the story to guarantee himself a flow of funds from the sitting President and to sell products. Defendants knew the story could not change the outcome of the election. It could, and did, make them money.”
Fox News rebutted the voting company’s claims, telling <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/04/business/media/smartmatic-fox-news-lawsuit.html">The New York Times</a> through a spokeswoman: “Fox News Media is committed to providing the full context of every story with in-depth reporting and clear opinion. We are proud of our 2020 election coverage and will vigorously defend this meritless lawsuit in court.”
Powell also told the Times that the claims outlined in the lawsuit are “just another political maneuver motivated by the radical left that has no basis in fact or law.”
Smartmatic’s lawsuit comes on the heels of a pair of election-related lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-dominion-sues-rudy-giuliani-for-1-3-billion-over-election-claims">Giuliani</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-dominion-files-1-3-billion-defamation-suit-against-sidney-powell">Powell</a>. In the suit filed against Giuliani, Dominion suggested that it may continue to take legal action against Fox News and a host of other companies and personalities.
“As a result of the defamatory falsehoods peddled by Giuliani—in concert with Sidney Powell, Russell Ramsland, L. Lin Wood, Mike Lindell, Patrick Byrne, Lou Dobbs, Fox News, Fox Business, Newsmax, One America News Network (“OAN”), The Epoch Times, and other like-minded allies and media outlets determined to promote a false preconceived narrative about the 2020 election — Dominion’s founder and employees have been harassed and have received death threats, and Dominion has suffered unprecedented and irreparable harm,” the lawsuit filed last month says.

Voting Company Smartmatic Sues Fox News, Others For Allegedly Running ‘Disinformation Campaign’

After weeks of campaigning in the turbulent and chaotic aftermath of November 3rd, Georgia’s runoff elections are finally over. With only a handful of votes left to be counted, both Republican incumbents have been defeated. Jon Ossoff — a millionaire armchair socialist-lite — beat David Perdue by over 41,000 votes (0.92%), and Raphael Warnock — a radical who has espoused anti-Semitic and anti-American sentiments — beat Kelly Loeffler by over 79,000 votes (1.8%). 
While it is possible that recounts will be requested, both margins are larger than the threshold required to automatically trigger a recount under Georgia law.
Many close to President Trump expressed disbelief consistent with the denial demonstrated since November’s election, including White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who <a href="https://twitter.com/kayleighmcenany/status/1346845701284753410?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1346845701284753410%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Feditorial.dailywire.com%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D178746action%3Dedit">implied</a> that Warnock’s win was illegitimate. It is likely that some will continue to refuse to accept the reality that Trump, and some who aligned with Trump, lost the election. Setting that debate aside, however, to apply that logic to the Georgia runoff races is simply an act of mathematical denial.
A basic analysis of the<a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/01/05/us/elections/results-georgia-runoffs.html"> vote</a> explains precisely why Loeffler will soon be replaced by a radical socialist embroiled in multiple scandals. In the counties of Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb, and DeKalb — the counties which surround Atlanta — Warnock outperformed his November margins. In Fulton, he increased his margin by 2%. In Gwinnett, 4%. In Cobb, 2.4%. In DeKalb, 2.5%. In the top 35 most populous counties that Loeffler won, she underperformed her November margins, in some cases by multiple percentage points. 
When one candidate improves and another declines, it doesn’t take a mathematical genius to understand why the improved candidate has a better chance of emerging victorious in an already tight race.
The same is true of the closer race between Ossoff and Perdue. In Fulton, Gwinnett, Cobb and DeKalb, Ossoff outperformed his November margins. Indeed, in every county that Ossoff won, he outperformed his November margins, and even flipped two counties (Baldwin and Washington). Perdue, on the other hand, consistently underperformed in multiple counties. Given that Perdue only received 1.8% more than Ossoff in the November election, it’s easy to see how Ossoff achieved his victory.
The brutal fact is that Republicans lost in Georgia solely because Republican voter turnout decreased since November. The driving factors behind this reduction in turnout in historically red counties are numerous, but likely include the campaign against the security and safety of the elections in Georgia. It’s difficult, after all, to convince people to vote while also claiming that their vote is meaningless. While that campaign ultimately drove down voter turnout, the Democrats focused on the opposite.
If Republicans and conservatives hope to avoid making the same mistakes of this election, then it’s crucial that we learn from these mistakes. At its heart, this means understanding that turnout cannot be taken for granted and that any electoral strategy which involves suppressing our own vote will have dire consequences.
Ultimately, the Democrats will now control the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate entirely because of Republicans&#8217; self-inflicted wounds.

On Thursday, The Washington Post announced that they would ask “every Republican member of Congress the same three questions,” which were: &#8220;Who won the presidential election?&#8221; &#8220;Do you support or oppose Donald Trump’s continuing efforts to claim victory?&#8221; and &#8220;If Joe Biden wins a majority in the electoral college, will you accept him as the legitimately elected president of the United States?&#8221;
The Post added in their tweet, “We will report back their answers.”

Strangely, the Post didn’t ask similar questions after the 2016 presidential election, when President Trump’s election prompted efforts from Democrats to undermine the legitimacy of his presidency, from accusing Trump of having won the election because of Russian interference to even going so far as impeaching the president almost three years after he had been inaugurated.
And the Post itself harped on the supposed Russia-Trump connection for weeks after the 2016 election:

Despite being assured by both the legacy media and “expert” pollsters that a “blue wave” was imminent, Republicans outperformed all House race projections. Currently, the Democrats hold a slim majority of 222 seats to the Republicans’ 205, with just 8 seats remaining. Republicans lead in all 8.
Not only did the Republican Party flip a whopping 11 seats, giving them a net gain of 8 seats so far, it was a particularly successful election for women in the “party of sexism.” Here are the 17 newly-elected female Republicans joining the House of Representatives in 2021.
Stephanie Bice 
Stephanie Bice beat incumbent Kendra Horn in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District by over 12,000 votes (4.2%). Bice served in the Oklahoma state Senate, and is the first Iranian American to be elected to Congress. 
Lauren Boebert
Lauren Boebert beat Democrat Diane Mitsch Bush in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District — after Boebert defeated Republican Rep. Scott Tipton in the primary election — by over 26,000 votes (6.2%). Boebert is known for owning “Shooters Grill,” a restaurant in Rifle, Colorado where staff members are permitted to openly carry firearms. As a gun rights activist, she challenged Beto O’Rourke during a town hall, saying “Hell, no, you won’t take our guns.”
Kat Cammack
Kat Cammack beat Democrat Adam Christensen in Florida’s 3rd Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Ted Yoho — by over 55,000 votes (14.2%). Cammack was formerly a staffer for Rep. Yoho, having served as deputy chief of staff. 
Michelle Fischbach
Michelle Fischbach beat Democrat incumbent Collin Peterson in Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District by over 46,000 votes (13.2%). Rep. Peterson was one of just two House Democrats who voted against the impeachment of Donald Trump, and had represented the rural Minnesota district for almost 30 years. Fischbach previously served as lieutenant governor of Minnesota and as the first female President of the Minnesota Senate.
Diana Harshbarger
Diana Harshbarger beat Democrat Blair Walsingham in Tennessee’s 1st Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Phil Roe — by almost 160,000 votes (52.4%). Harshberger is a licensed pharmacist, and won a 16-candidate GOP primary before beating Walsingham.
Yvette Herrell
Yvette Herrell beat Democrat incumbent Xochitl Torres Small in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District by over 20,000 votes (7.8%). Herrell is the first Cherokee woman elected to Congress, and the first Republican Native American woman in Congress. She is also a former New Mexico state legislator. 
Ashley Hinson
Ashely Hinson beat Democrat incumbent Abby Finkenauer in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District by over 10,000 votes (2.6%). Hinson, who was previously a local news anchor, served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2017.
Young Kim
Young Kim beat Democrat incumbent Gil Cisneros in California’s 39th Congressional District by just over 4,000 votes (1.2%) in a race which wasn’t called until 10 days after Election Day. Kim is a former California Assemblywoman, and worked for Rep. Ed Royce as a community liaison and director of Asian affairs for 21 years. Kim is an immigrant from South Korea.
Nancy Mace
Nancy Mace beat Democrat incumbent Joe Cunningham by over 5,000 votes (1.2%) in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. Mace was the field director and coalitions director in the state of South Carolina for the 2016 Trump campaign, and served as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives since 2018. She is also the first woman to graduate from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.  
Nicole Malliotakis
Nicole Malliotakis beat Democrat incumbent Max Rose in New York’s 11th Congressional District by over 37,000 votes (15.8%). She is the only Republican woman elected in New York City, the first Hispanic American to win elected office in Staten Island, and one of the first two Greek American women elected to office in the state of New York. She had previously competed in the New York City mayoral election against Bill de Blasio in 2017.
Lisa McClain
Lisa McClain beat Democrat Kimberly Bizon in Michigan’s 10th Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Paul Mitchell — by over 133,000 votes (32.6%). McClain lauded her business experience, most recently as senior vice president of Hantz Group, during her campaign.
Mary Miller
Mary Miller beat Democrat Erika Weaver in Illinois’ 15th Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. John Shimkus — by almost 140,000 votes (43.2%). She is also a grain and cattle farmer based in Oakland, Illinois, and is the first Republican woman elected to represent Illinois in Congress since 2013.

Maria Elvira Salazar beat incumbent Donna Shalala in Florida’s 27th Congressional District by almost 10,000 votes (2.8%). Salazar is of Cuban descent, and worked as a broadcast journalist for outlets such as Univision, Telemundo, and CNN Español. She ran on a platform which vocally opposed socialism.
Victoria Spartz
Victoria Spartz beat Democrat Christina Hale in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Susan Brooks — by almost 17,000 votes (4.1%). Spartz is a Ukrainian American, and was appointed to the Indiana Senate from the 20th District in 2017 when State Sen. Luke Kenley resigned. 
Michelle Steel
Michelle Steel beat Democrat incumbent Harley Rouda in California’s 48th Congressional District by just under 8,000 votes (2%). Steel is an immigrant from South Korea, served as the chair of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, and is a former member of the California State Board of Equalization.
Marjorie Taylor Greene
Marjorie Taylor Greene beat Democrat Kevin Van Ausdal in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Tom Graves — by over 151,000 votes (49.5%). Greene began her candidacy in 2020 in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, but shifted to the 14th District when Graves announced he would not run for reelection. Greene is the second Republican woman to represent Georgia in the House, and the first Republican woman to be elected to a full term from a Georgia district.
Beth Van Duyne
Beth Van Duyne beat Democrat Candace Valenzuela in Texas’ 24th Congressional District — which was vacated by Republican Rep. Kenny Marchant — by over 4,000 votes (1.3%). Van Duyne served as the mayor of Irving, Texas, from 2011 to 2017, and served in the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the Trump administration. Her platform focused on border control issues.

When election day turned into election week and now election month, the bated breath with which we waited for results has turned our faces blue from a lack of oxygen and now red from anger and distrust. It’s like the opposite of CNN’s electoral map where everything turns red first, then blue.
Americans has been forced to sit on their hands and wait for the excruciatingly sluggish process of counting votes, a practice some states seemed prepared to handle while others…not so much. Consider that Florida &#8212; a state with over 10 million votes &#8212; was called a little after midnight while Pennsylvania &#8212; a state with over 6million votes &#8212; was called four days after the election. 
There’s one huge reason why Florida was able to count its votes so quickly: state election laws. Florida started counting mail-in ballots on October 12, which means that up to election day, they counted votes as they came in. Pennsylvania on the other hand, did not start processing mail-in ballots until the morning of election day.
Why the difference? According to a <a href="https://twitter.com/JebBush/status/1324168561582055426?s=20">twee</a>t from former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, “we learned our lesson in 2000 and changed our laws.” Seems easy enough, yet <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/When_states_can_begin_processing_and_counting_absentee/mail-in_ballots,_2020">only 10 states</a> have laws that allow them to count ballots prior to election day. 
It’s almost like we should’ve seen this coming. If only there was something regularly covered in the news that could’ve given us a hint that there would be more mail-in ballots than usual. Well, yes, there was. But instead of seeking provisions to begin counting ballots early, Pennsylvania (along with North Carolina) sought to extend deadlines past election day to allow voters to submit ballots later.
That&#8217;s right, instead of choosing to count ballots earlier, they removed a hard deadline and encouraged people to submit votes later. Not only did this lead to confusing election day coverage, but it also contributed to the uncertainty surrounding the rest of election week—uncertainty that still lingers today.
But let’s not blame it all on Pennsylvania. They’re not alone. Thirteen days after the election, <a href="https://twitter.com/DKThomp/status/1328362968988389384?s=20">the NYT estimates</a> that Manhattan and Westchester, New York have reported only 60% of their ballots. In New Jersey&#8217;s 8th District, just 67% of the vote has been reported and in California, Lake County has reported just 40% of their votes. That is fewer than half of the votes counted in two weeks. 
This data alone may not legitimize Trump&#8217;s claims of election fraud, but it does serve as a reminder that America might not be as adept at running elections as some would like to think. We still leave ample room for human error, plenty of reasons for contested results, and plenty of extra time for uncertainty and doubt.
Today, the American people want clarity around who they just elected to lead them, and with the election in the rearview mirror, we still don’t have it. But in a truly American twist, the fault for the uncertainty lies in the hands of local governments—the people who have chosen to unnecessarily delay the counting of votes. 
The good news? If you don’t like the way your state counts votes, you can vote for someone else to run it.
