Don Lemon returned to his morning show on Wednesday and did not issue an on-air apology following the backlash against him over his comment about Republican presidential hopeful <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nikki-haley-declares-her-candidacy-for-the-presidency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nikki Haley</a> not being &#8220;in her prime.&#8221;
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/don-lemon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">anchor</a> of &#8220;CNN This Morning&#8221; returned after being absent from three broadcasts after dealing with the blowback for his remark about the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nikki-haley-torches-sexist-middle-aged-cnn-anchor-don-lemon-in-viral-post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">51-year-old</a> former United Nations ambassador.
Lemon joined co-anchors Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins, and the trio proceeded with business as usual without mentioning the drama.

In 2017, Bill Maher upset viewers of &#8220;Real Time&#8221; when he used a racial slur in a joke during the program. He issued an apology, and when he returned to the show, he sat down with guests like Ice Cube and Michael Eric Dyson, <a href="https://variety.com/2017/tv/news/real-time-bill-maher-ice-cube-1202461328/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the outlet</a> reported.
In 2018, Megyn Kelly discussed on her NBC show whether people should wear blackface as part of a Halloween costume. She faced a backlash and apologized upon her return, and took part in a panel discussion with Roland Martin and Amy Holmes.
It is unclear just how secure Lemon&#8217;s spot at the network is. <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2023/02/22/don-lemon-final-warning-cnn-sexist-comment/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TMZ</a> reported that sources with knowledge of the situation claim Lemon&#8217;s been told this was his final warning, one more insult of his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/don-lemon-left-cnn-co-host-kaitlan-collins-rattled-after-he-screamed-at-her-for-interrupting-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">co-hosts</a> or <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11190077/Don-Lemon-branded-misogynist-asking-stuttering-commentator-MOMMY-BRAIN.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">creating a toxic environment,</a> and he&#8217;s out. Past examples have included telling colleague S.E. Cupp that she was having &#8220;mommy brain&#8221; when she forgot her words during a segment.
CNN President Chris Licht told staffers in a letter Monday that Lemon had agreed to &#8220;participate in formal training,&#8221; <a href="https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/cnn-morning-don-lemon-return-drama-1235531766/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> noted.
&#8220;We take this situation very seriously,&#8221; Licht shared. &#8220;It is important to me that CNN balances accountability with fostering a culture in which people can own, learn and grow from their mistakes.&#8221;

Many on both sides of the political aisle have spent the last week calling for embattled CNN host Don Lemon&#8217;s head on a platter — or at least his job — but Fox News&#8217; Tammy Bruce isn&#8217;t quite ready to demand that he be fired.
Bruce published an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/cnn-shouldnt-cancel-don-lemon-being-jerk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion column</a> on the Fox News website on Wednesday, and she argued that however &#8220;blatantly sexist&#8221; and &#8220;infuriating&#8221; Lemon&#8217;s comments had been, demanding his ouster would only feed the cancel culture monster.
Lemon, 56 — whose Presidents&#8217; Day vacation sparked rumors that he had been benched by the network — <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/were-just-getting-started-janice-dean-blows-up-don-lemon-over-sexist-dig-at-nikki-haley/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incurred the wrath</a> of women everywhere when he claimed that former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), 51, was no longer &#8220;in her prime.&#8221;
He faced <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/don-lemons-sexist-slam-of-nikki-haley-draws-sharp-rebuke-from-cnn-co-host/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">immediate pushback</a> from his two female co-hosts — Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins — and as video clips of the exchange quickly went viral, many began to suggest that CNN should cut the embattled anchor loose.
But Bruce said otherwise, explaining, &#8220;It was and is infuriating, and almost immediately the cancel culture mob had formed. As someone who has worked most of her adult life advocating for women, I agree that pushing back on bigotry like this that demeans women is a must. However, demanding that Lemon lose his job goes too far. Firing him would normalize the expectation that someone will be professionally and personally annihilated for a dumb comment, backward attitude, or unapproved opinion.&#8221;
Bruce went on to say that demanding Lemon&#8217;s ouster would only serve to further the growth of cancel culture — the need to purge all who have ever made a wrong move or had a wrong thought from the public discourse, often destroying their lives in the process.
&#8220;Courtesy of bloodthirsty Marxists disguised as American liberals, the scourge of cancel culture has been charging through Western civilization like a monster truck speeding through the Mojave Desert, with piles of hapless victims smashing against the windshield at record pace,&#8221; Bruce commented — and she added that the conservative position would be to allow CNN to handle its own.
&#8220;Lemon’s latest foot-in-mouth episode presents a perfect opportunity to stand against his presumed annihilation and be consistent with our rejection of the left’s attempt to train us all into becoming cancel culture assassins,&#8221; she said.

Podcast host Megyn Kelly bashed CNN CEO Chris Licht for not acting more harshly after CNN host Don Lemon’s incendiary comments about women being “past their prime.”
Lemon precipitated outrage from both the political Left and Right after <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/things-get-awkward-after-don-lemon-dings-nikki-haley-by-insisting-women-are-in-their-prime-in-their-20s-30s-and-40s/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claiming</a> that former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), 51, was no longer “in her prime.” Haley, in an apparent shot at President Biden, had stated that many American politicians were not “in their prime” and suggested a cognitive test for political candidates who were over 75 years old.
&#8220;This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable. I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are suddenly not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime. Sorry, when a woman is in their prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s,” Lemon said in response.
During a recent show, Kelly discussed a report that said that Lemon would face &#8220;recourse&#8221; from Licht &#8220;if the same stupid things become a trend.&#8221; Lemon, who will return to CNN on Wednesday, was required to go through sensitivity training.
“I tweeted out, ‘If?’ I realize he only took over about a year ago but there’s a history here. Hello? Hello?” Kelly said, before referencing “Back to the Future,” quipping, “MacFly?”
“Here’s how I see this latest decision by Chris Licht. Here’s a question I have for him. Do women matter? Do we matter? Because it shouldn’t have to be that you were raped by a man or 21 women come forward alleging that they were sexually harassed by a man or they were inappropriately touched by a man for their offense to matter. Because we have seen person after person get fired because they caused offense, mere offense, when it comes to race, when it comes to sexual orientation, when it comes to gender identity,&#8221; she said.
“Does women’s offense matter? “ she pressed. “Does it matter? Because this guy managed to piss off half the country. And it’s not Left or Right, it’s male or female, and by the way, a lot of the men are with us. You don’t have to be a #MeToo supporter to be irritated and offended by what Don Lemon said. This one’s not breaking down along partisan lines”
“Does our offense matter to CNN or does someone have to grab a boob for us to count, Chris Licht?” she fired. “That&#8217;s my question to you.”
Then she referred to Lemon&#8217;s “formal training” after the incident. “Because Don Lemon’s ‘reeducation camp’ is a farce. It’s a lie and we know it. No one’s fooled by your stupid fig leaf,” she said.

Republican cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back, arguing that compared to much of Washington, D.C., Haley certainly was a different generation. At 51, for example, she is 29 years younger than President Joe Biden and 38 years younger than retiring Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
&#8220;But it&#8217;s not a new generation,&#8221; Goldberg insisted, suggesting that Haley didn&#8217;t count as a &#8220;new generation&#8221; because she still held Republican ideals. &#8220;She may be younger than most of those people but her rhetoric is the same. She&#8217;s saying the same beats and I love the young kid, but you know what? The only way you&#8217;re going to get younger people to run, dude, is if you&#8217;re out there talking to people and saying, &#8216;Run!'&#8221;
Goldberg&#8217;s complaint came on the heels of an awkward CNN segment in which anchor Don Lemon, 56, claimed that Haley — at 51 — was &#8220;not in her prime.&#8221;

Legacy media anchor Don Lemon won&#8217;t appear on &#8220;CNN This Morning&#8221; on Monday after saying that 51-year-old Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley wasn&#8217;t &#8220;in her prime&#8221; following her 2024 White House bid last week.
Lemon had initially appeared on the schedule to anchor the show with co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins. However, according to a copy of the CNN anchor schedule obtained and reviewed by <a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/don-lemon-cut-from-monday-lineup-of-cnns-this-morning-insiders-say?ref=home">Confider</a>, officials at the network appear to have benched Lemon. Instead, they will have Sara Snider anchoring with Harlow in New York and Collins in Poland.
A source familiar with the matter told the news outlet that Lemon&#8217;s future on the show is being discussed in &#8220;ongoing conversations.&#8221;
&#8220;He is a constant distraction,&#8221; the source told Confider.
A CNN spokesperson denied the reporting to <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/new-cnn-denies-report-don-lemon-benched-over-sexist-comments-but-he-wont-be-on-air-monday/">Mediaite</a>, saying Lemon was &#8220;taking the holiday&#8221; due to paparazzi harassment — although they did not specifically deny he would be out on Monday.
&#8220;He is taking the holiday. He’s been chased by paparazzi all weekend,&#8221; the spokesperson said. &#8220;He’s been under attack. He’s not ready to go back on air.”
During the CNN morning show on Thursday, Lemon said, &#8220;Nikki Haley isn&#8217;t in her prime. Sorry, when a woman is in their prime [is] in [her] 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.&#8221;
Lemon&#8217;s co-host Poppy Harlow knew the comment would create a stir and asked him to clarify. &#8220;What are you talking — Wait … prime for what?&#8221;
&#8220;That&#8217;s not according to me,&#8221; Lemon responded. &#8220;It depends. It&#8217;s just like, prime. If you look it up,&#8221; Lemon added. &#8220;If you Google when is a woman in her prime, it&#8217;ll say 20s, 30s, 40s.&#8221;
The CNN anchor later tweeted that his comments about Haley were &#8220;inartful and irrelevant.&#8221;

CNN CEO Chris Licht reportedly said during an editorial call on Friday morning that Lemon&#8217;s comments about Haley &#8220;disappointed&#8221; him.
&#8220;His remarks were upsetting, unacceptable, and unfair to his co-hosts, and ultimately a huge distraction to the great work of this organization,&#8221; Licht said to his staffers, according to a readout of the call obtained by Confider.
Lemon offered an apology on the same call.
&#8220;I&#8217;m sorry,&#8221; Lemon said. I didn&#8217;t mean to hurt anyone. I did not mean to offend anyone.&#8221;
DailyMail.com <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11769993/Don-Lemon-cut-CNNs-Monday-breakfast-sexist-Nikki-Haley-remarks.html">reported</a> last week that inside sources described Lemon as &#8220;rude, self-righteous and clearly sexist&#8221; to the news outlet, adding that &#8220;his apology meant nothing.&#8221;
&#8220;Don has been skating on thin ice for so long, and many wanted him fired in December when he freaked out on Kaitlin Collins for no reason,&#8221; the sources said. &#8220;She was in tears, and it was so inappropriate.&#8221;
Lemon reportedly left Collins &#8220;rattled&#8221; on the set of &#8220;This Morning&#8221; on December 8 after he allegedly blew up at her once the show was over because she had interrupted him on air.
Confider reported that Lemon&#8217;s agent Jay Sures, also the Vice Chairman of United Talent Agency, hung up on the outlet when staff reached out to ask why Lemon would not be appearing on &#8220;This Morning&#8221; on Monday.
&#8220;I am now blocking your number,&#8221; Sures said in a follow-up text to the outlet, according to Confider.
The Daily Mail reported ratings for CNN&#8217;s &#8220;This Morning&#8221; had experienced record lows since its launch, with averages of just over 330,000 viewers.

During Sirius XM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show&#8221; <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T1TLeIZ5mw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">podcast</a>, the host was speaking with guests Jim Geraghty and Michael Brendan Dougherty about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/don-lemons-sexist-slam-of-nikki-haley-draws-sharp-rebuke-from-cnn-co-host" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lemon</a> claiming that Haley &#8220;isn&#8217;t in her prime&#8221; following her presidential announcement on Tuesday, and calling on Americans to reject leaders &#8220;past&#8221; their &#8220;prime.&#8221;
&#8220;The latest comment that he has made I would submit to you is just the latest in a series of truly sexist comments by this guy,&#8221; Kelly explained. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know how much longer CNN can allow this to go on. … I&#8217;m so irritated by this guy, and, honestly, his misogyny — and I don&#8217;t use that word about a lot of people — but there’s a pattern with him. “What are you talking — Wait…,” Harlow quickly interjected.
“That’s not according to me,” Lemon scrambled. When asked to clarify what he meant by prime, the CNN host replied, “It depends. It’s just like, prime. If you look it up. If you Google when is a woman in her prime, it’ll say 20s, 30s, 40s…”
Lemon, who is 56, was discussing the subject of aging politicians being required to take competency tests, which has been a topic of discussion now that President Joe Biden is 80 and recently announced presidential hopeful Donald Trump is 76. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nikki-haley">Haley</a>, the former governor of South Carolina and onetime U.N. ambassador, was clearly referring to their ages when she made her announcement formal a day later in Charleston, SC.
&#8220;America is not past our prime,&#8221; Haley said. &#8220;It&#8217;s just that our politicians are past theirs.&#8221;
Lemon spent much of the rest of the segment trying to dig himself out of a hole.
“I’m not saying I agree with that,” he insisted. “So I think she has to be careful about saying that, you know, politicians are in their prime.&#8221;
“Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just saying what the facts are,” he continued. “Google it. Everybody at home, when is a woman in her prime? It says 20s, 30s and 40s. I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politicians are not in their prime, and they need to be in their prime when they serve. She would not be in her prime according to Google or whatever it is.”

Haley served three terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives before being elected governor in 2010, making her the youngest governor in the country at the age of 38. The Constitution requires that any presidential candidate must be at least 35 years old but makes no stipulations for upper age limits.
In the same segment, Lemon attempted to backtrack, saying individual capacity was based on the individual. 
He explained, “&#8230; My mom is 80 years old. I just gave her a surprise birthday party…Is she as physically strong as she once was? No. But mentally, she is sharp. Could she run the country? If she wanted to, I guess she could. But I guess it depends on the individual.”

CNN&#8217;s Don Lemon reportedly left co-host Kaitlan Collins &#8220;rattled&#8221; on the set of “CNN This Morning” on December 8 after he allegedly blew up at her once the show was over because she had interrupted him on air.
The incident reportedly happened while the network was covering President Joe Biden&#8217;s decision to <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/on-camera-conflict-watch-the-tense-moments-that-caused-dust-up-between-cnns-kaitlan-collins-and-don-lemon/">release</a> notorious Russian terrorist and weapons trafficker Viktor Bout in exchange for WNBA player Brittney Griner.
Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnns-don-lemon-snapped-co-host-kaitlan-collins-interrupting-during-incident">noted</a> that Lemon was absent from the show the following day as co-host Poppy Harlow told viewers that he had &#8220;the day off.&#8221;
“Don screamed at Kaitlan, who was visibly upset and ran out of the studio,” a source <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/02/02/don-lemon-screamed-at-cnn-this-morning-co-host-in-off-camera-tiff-sources/">told</a> the New York Post. The source said that the blowup happened in front of other staffers.
“At this point, Kaitlan wants to be on set with Don as little as possible,” another source told the Post. “It’s messy.”
Other sources indicated to the Post that Lemon has had a difficult time adjusting from having his own prime-time show to having to share the limelight with two female co-hosts.
“Don’s a bossy guy and difficult to work with — even he would admit that,&#8221; one source said. &#8220;He was a solo act before. He doesn’t want to be in Destiny’s Child.”
A source close to CNN&#8217;s top brass told the Post that Lemon had an ego problem and that he wants the show to be about him.
CNN <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/on-camera-conflict-watch-the-tense-moments-that-caused-dust-up-between-cnns-kaitlan-collins-and-don-lemon/">responded</a> to the reports by claiming that the entire situation was being blown out of proportion and that the three co-hosts were all friends.
“The Post’s account is wildly overblown and two months old,&#8221; CNN claimed. &#8220;Don, Kaitlan and Poppy were friends before they were co-anchors and they remain friends today.”
Fox News reported separately that Lemon was absent from the show on Friday morning following the report from the Post about the incident.
&#8220;Don is on assignment in Los Angeles,&#8221; Collins <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnns-don-lemon-assignment-amid-leaks-air-tensions-co-host-kaitlan-collins">said</a> to open the show.
The show&#8217;s ratings have been in a steady <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/cnn-this-morning-don-lemon-low-rating-b2273015.html">decline</a> ever since it launched in November.
