The Tulsa Drillers have suspended their &#8220;bat dog&#8221; program after a bizarre on-field collision left top Dodgers prospect Kendall George with a knee injury earlier this week.
The Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers announced the suspension after Monday&#8217;s Memorial Day game, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/05/27/sports/dodgers-affiliate-suspends-bat-dog-program-after-freak-injury/">The New York Post</a>.
George, the Dodgers’ No. 13 prospect and a 2023 first-round draft pick, appeared to leap out of the way of the team&#8217;s bat dog as the animal ran onto the field to retrieve a bat. The outfielder landed awkwardly and injured his knee.

The incident was caught on camera, showing George limping after the run-in with the four-legged friend.
Minor league teams have recently started using &#8220;bat dogs&#8221; as a way to add to the eccentric atmosphere that comes with the minor leagues. Tulsa has been incorporating a dog into game day since 2022, per <a href="https://www.newson6.com/story/6657a715fa70eac939a5aa7e/fans-love-the-new-bat-dogs-for-the-tulsa-drillers">News On 6</a>. When the Drillers decided to go all in on the “dog days of summer” baseball trend, the team used dogs that were trained to retrieve bats after plate appearances and return them to the dugout.
The dog-induced knee injury that George sustained is an unfortunate setback for a guy who was the fourth minor league player since 2005 to steal 100 bases in a single season while posting a .409 on-base percentage.
This season, George had already stolen a division-leading 26 bases in 43 games while batting .333 for the Drillers. He also leads the Texas League in runs scored with 52.
The timing of the suspension is ironic: Tulsa&#8217;s home game Wednesday night against Northwest Arkansas is also the team&#8217;s first &#8220;Bark in the Park&#8221; promotion of the season, where fans are encouraged to bring their canine friends to the stadium.

A U.S. Army veteran who rescued his 11-year-old dog from ISIS is now fighting to save her again after local authorities in Virginia “kidnapped” the animal.
Brendan Jones, a military veteran with 18 years of counterterrorism experience, rescued his dog Lucy from the grips of ISIS while deployed in the Middle East. Now, he&#8217;s building a &#8220;<a href="https://hannity.com/media-room/save-lucy-army-vets-beloved-pup-who-survived-isis-now-locked-in-virginia-kennel/">pressure campaign</a>&#8221; to save Lucy from an animal shelter. 
Around a month ago, Lucy was taken from the family&#8217;s rural property near Strasburg, Virginia, after a neighbor claimed that the dog threatened her and accused Jones of failing to comply with Virginia’s dangerous dog registry requirements.

Dolly Jones, Brendan&#8217;s wife, said the couple has faced repeated conflicts with neighbors, including over a dozen police calls and multiple court appearances over animal-related noise complaints. Jones argued that the incident involving Lucy was &#8220;the weapon they needed to wield against us.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s been heartbreaking for everybody,&#8221; Dolly Jones said on &#8220;<a href="https://hannity.com/media-room/save-lucy-army-vets-beloved-pup-who-survived-isis-now-locked-in-virginia-kennel/">The Sean Hannity Show</a>.&#8221; &#8220;When they actually came and kidnapped her off our property, the kids were outside playing, and the cops came up and removed her from the field, put her in the car. It&#8217;s been devastating.&#8221; 
Brendan found and fell in love with Lucy in 2015 while &#8220;camping in the reddish moondust on the border between Jordan and Syria.&#8221;
&#8220;A young dog, pearl white in color, hung out with us at camp. We kind of adopted her and fed her leftovers. She appreciated having a full belly and a respite from the packs of wild dogs and angry Bedouins,&#8221; he said on social media. &#8220;We named her Lucy, which was appropriate, because it was similar to the Arabic word &#8216;Lulu,&#8217; which means pearl.&#8221;
Then, he bribed a Jordanian officer to get Lucy veterinary care. 
&#8220;First, I asked him straight up to take the dog to the vet in Amman. He laughed, spat on the ground, and said something disparaging about Americans and their love for filthy dogs. So I went for his Achilles heel — his love of Oakley sunglasses. I told him I would give him my Oakleys if he drove the dog 3.5 hours to Amman and delivered her to the vet. That got him. He said he would,&#8221; Jones said. 
Following the birth of his newborn son, Jones said Lucy helped fill the void of his emotional pain overseas. 
&#8220;I missed being a dad, I missed the dad life, and that&#8217;s not the headspace you want when you&#8217;re overseas in danger, when you have to be focused on the mission,&#8221; he told Hannity. &#8220;Lucy helped me get over that, because she filled that void that was missing. I would sit outside our gate after we adopted her and just pet her, play with her, feed her; it helped me overcome the pain that I felt.&#8221; 
Lucy is still sitting in her cell at the pound, <a href="https://x.com/jonesbrendanm/status/2057510905621975420?s=20">according to Jones</a>, and the dog is unlikely to be released before Jones&#8217; next court date, which is set for June 12.

My dog, Lemmy, is one of my favorite people. He snores like an old man, scares himself with his own farts, and snorts directly into my eyes. Always on the lookout for new friends (he&#8217;ll take humans over other dogs), he wiggles, rolls into a ball, and lies on strangers’ feet, lapping up belly rubs and compliments about his cuteness.
Of the <a href="https://vcahospitals.com/resources/behavior-dog/communication/how-many-words-do-dogs-know#:~:text=Dogs%20can%20learn%20words%20and,understand%20more%20than%201%2C000%20words!">200 words</a> most dogs can comprehend, at least 197 words of Lemmy’s vocabulary are probably nicknames I’ve made up for him over the years. A blue French Bulldog with a nub for a tail, smushed nose, googly eyes, and “tulip ears,” he answers to Bunny, Skoonch, Teddy, Boops, and variations on the theme. He’s the best boy. I joke that he’s my biological son based on our shared love of peanut butter, long walks on the beach, and packages from Amazon. 
Though the <a href="https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2026/is-the-us-birth-rate-declining">birthrate</a> is declining in the U.S., pet ownership is skyrocketing — up <a href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/pet-insurance/pet-ownership-statistics/">more than 50%</a> since the 1980s. As the <a href="https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2026/is-the-us-birth-rate-declining">human population shrinks</a>, dogs, cats, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/pet-insurance/pet-ownership-statistics/">horses, turtles, and chinchillas</a> have us feeling a little less <a href="https://plantationanimalclinic.com/news/mental-health-benefits-of-owning-pets#:~:text=According%20to%20the%20American%20Psychiatric%20Association%20and,a%20more%20organized%20life%20for%20their%20owners.">lonely</a>. But as researchers scramble to uncover the real reasons behind the dip in population, dogs get wrapped up in the mix as a “substitute kids” scapegoat.
Some surveys suggest that currently childless <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/may/27/researchers-dogs-substitute-children-know-answer-birthrates-hungary#:~:text=According%20to%20a%20review%20of%20pet%20research,dogs%20because%20they%20are%20not%20like%20children">dog owners</a> see a four-legged buddy as “<a href="https://econtent.hogrefe.com/doi/10.1027/1016-9040/a000552">a child surrogate to spoil</a>.” Even the late Pope Francis warned, &#8220;We see a form of selfishness. We see that some people do not want to have a child … They have dogs and cats that take the place of children.” (He also said pets <a href="https://time.com/3631242/pope-francis-dogs-heaven-catholic-church/">go to Heaven</a>, so he gets a pass.)
There’s no world in which I think Lemmy is, in fact, my kid. Of course I tell him he’ll always be my baby, and I love taking him to every restaurant that will have him. But I can tell the difference between how he sees the world and how my niece and nephews do. He also doesn’t have as many weekend soccer tournaments on his calendar. When I lived in LA, there was a much greater chance that someone was pushing a stroller with a dog swaddled in the main compartment versus a human baby. But new research shows that people who pamper their pups like babies might actually save humanity. Or, at least, be more likely to eventually have their own kids. 
<a href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=5656231">A study</a> in Taiwan followed 23 million participants and millions of pets over a decade, revealing that pet owners weren’t replacing hypothetical children with animals. Instead, those pets were simply <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/world/birthrates-falling-dont-blame-dogs.html">joining the family first</a>. The human kids came next. (The findings also showed this doesn’t work in reverse where babies lead to people getting dogs.) 
Pets make people parents. It’s just science, you guys!
Goldendoodles and other furry friends probably create this desire for family because our brains see our dogs just like we see our human babies. (It’s not just me saying this; our brains light up like Christmas trees in <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/dogs-furbabies-evolution-science#:~:text=According%20to%20scientists%2C%20there%27s%2020%2C000%20to%2040%2C000,that%27s%20responsible%20for%20attachment%2C%20affection%2C%20and%20connectedness.">MRI</a>s to prove we’re especially fond of our own squad.) Mother of three Alison LaCoss said she felt a <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/dogs-furbabies-evolution-science">similar feeling</a> after adopting her dogs as she did giving birth to her kids: “I felt a flood of emotions. Here were these cute, adorable creatures that I suddenly wanted to love and protect. I felt like they were my babies.”
With dogs licking their paws in over <a href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/pet-insurance/pet-ownership-statistics/">65 million</a> American homes, word is out on the beneficial bond between dogs and their humans. People were buried with their dogs <a href="https://www.academia.edu/62443033/When_Dogs_and_People_Were_Buried_Together">14,000 years</a> ago (I&#8217;m telling myself they died on the same day). And now, the family dog helps <a href="https://www.thedrakecenter.com/services/dogs/blog/5-advantages-kids-who-grow-dogs#:~:text=%233%20Better%20Emotional%20Intelligence,you%20probably%20already%20knew%20that).">kids feel less anxious</a>. Even just petting your dog releases the “<a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22618-oxytocin">cuddle chemical</a>” oxytocin in your body — <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2023/08/03/1190728554/dog-pet-mental-health-benefits">as well as your dog’s</a>. 
No offense to the <a href="https://www.forbes.com/advisor/pet-insurance/pet-ownership-statistics/">second most popular pet</a> in the U.S., but there have yet to be studies proving the same is true of cats. “If this is the exhaustion that comes with a cat, how much would it be with a child,” posted one <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/n61yfs/i_feel_like_having_a_cat_has_made_me_realize_how/">Redditor</a>, claiming to have been socially conditioned by conservative relatives to want children. “I&#8217;m happy with my fur baby, and he&#8217;s the only baby I want to have.”
Elsewhere, on r/cats, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/1ev9muf/i_swear_since_getting_cats_my_desire_to_have_kids/">someone</a> posted, “I swear since getting cats my desire to have kids has vanished. Anyone else? Lol.”  This two-person Reddit sample certainly doesn’t represent every cat owner, but there&#8217;s just something different about dogs.
Writer Christine Derengowski <a href="https://www.mother.ly/life/adopting-a-puppy-made-me-realize-how-much-i-wanted-to-be-a-mom/">recalled</a> a serendipitous adoption of her family&#8217;s dog, Gertie, a few weeks before she experienced a miscarriage. “For the first time in my life, I felt the full force of my desire to be a mom,” she said of cradling her sweet pup after the devastating doctor’s appointment. “I couldn’t bring myself to put her back down. I rocked her like an infant and cried.” She went on to welcome two children. “[Gertie] taught me the difference between wanting a baby and wanting to be a mom … She not only comforted me through my greatest loss but also put me in touch with a part of me I hadn’t yet discovered.”
They may be the goofy face of <a href="https://phys.org/news/2025-10-fur-baby-culture-fueling-overtreatment.html">fur baby culture</a>, but maybe <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn0ky1n791go">man’s best friends</a> will keep the future of humanity out of the dog house.

Only 15 Democrats were willing to vote with Republicans on Thursday on a measure that would make non-citizens who harmed police animals — such as dogs or horses — either inadmissible or subject to deportation.
The BOWOW Act <a href="https://x.com/CraigCaplan/status/2034639336612745286">passed the U.S. House</a> on Thursday by a margin of 228-190, with every Republican voting in favor of the legislation. It will head to the Senate next.
Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) <a href="https://calvert.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-calverts-bowow-act-advanced-judiciary-committee">introduced</a> the bill in June of 2025 &#8220;after Freddie, a Customs and Border Patrol agriculture detector dog, was <a class="ext" title="(opens in a new window)" href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/local-media-release/egyptian-traveler-eats-federal-charges-kicking-dulles-cbp-beagle" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow noreferrer" data-entity-type="external" data-extlink="">assaulted</a> in June by a non-citizen from Egypt&#8221; — and the House Judiciary Committee voted to advance the measure in November.
&#8220;I appreciate my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee advancing the BOWOW Act and joining me in standing up for our law enforcement animals who help keep Americans safe. Coming to America is a privilege, not a right. Anyone who assaults an animal, like Freddie, simply has no place in our country,&#8221; Calvert said at the time.
The purpose of the bill, according to its <a href="https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/4638/text">official description</a>, is &#8220;to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deem any alien who has been convicted of or admits to harming a federal law enforcement animal as inadmissible and deportable.&#8221;
The bill would affect non-citizens who were convicted under 18 U.S.C. 1368 — which pertains to the abuse of animals used in federal law enforcement such as service dogs and horses — or those who have admitted to assaulting such animals. Anyone who fit that description would either be inadmissible to the United States or subject to deportation.
The 15 Democrats who voted in favor of the bill were as follows: Reps. Henry Cuellar (TX), Sharice Davids (KS), Don Davis (NC), John Garamendi (CA), Jared Golden (ME), Vicente Gonzalez (TX), Josh Gottheimer (NJ), Adam Gray (CA), Chrissy Houlahan (PA), Greg Landsman (OH), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA), Josh Riley (NY), Eric Sorensen (IL), Tom Suozzi (NY), and Eugene Vindman (VA).
Rep. Kevin Kiley (I-CA), in his first vote since leaving the Republican Party, also voted with the Republicans in favor of the measure.

A dog abducted by terrorists on October 7 was reunited with its owner, Rachel Dancyg, on Wednesday, after a year and a half of being apart.
Billy, a three-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz during Hamas’ massacre. 
In a viral video, Billy is seen running into the arms of the Dancyg family while Rachel cries. Rachel then hugs Aviad Shapira, the reservist who found the dog.

Shapira told Israel’s Channel 12 that the dog ran into his arms while he was in Rafah. Shapira, of the Golani’s 13th Battalion, took care of the dog for four days before returning to Israel, <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/dog-abducted-from-murdered-hostages-family-found-by-troops-in-gaza/">The Times of Israel reported</a>.

Rachel’s son-in-law, Yaron Maor, <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/3-year-old-spaniel-abducted-on-oct-7-found-in-gaza-to-be-returned-to-family/">told</a> YNet that the family didn’t believe that Billy survived and purchased another dog of the same breed for the family’s children.
“We are in complete shock and overwhelmed with emotion to see her tomorrow. We didn’t believe she had survived,” he said before reuniting with the dog. “Now the two dogs will live together with us. It’s a miracle from heaven.”
Rachel is the ex-wife of Alex Dancyg, a murdered hostage who was buried in August after his body was recovered by the IDF. Dancyg’s brother, Itzik Elgarat, was also murdered and buried after his body was returned in the latest hostage deal.
Rachel is known for her heroic act of saving her teenage granddaughters on October 7. While sheltering in a safe room that didn’t have a lock, the 72-year-old grandmother successfully held the door shut while terrorists fired bullets at the door.

“Dogs are not only man’s best friend, offering companionship and loyalty, but also guardians, instinctively protecting their loved ones with unwavering devotion,” Trump’s message read.  “On National K-9 Veterans Day, the First Lady and I join our Nation in honoring the dedicated service of those working dogs serving alongside our military and law enforcement to defend our citizens and our Homeland.”

In 2014, Hurricane made headlines for his bravery when he took down a White House intruder who had scaled the White House fence during former President Barack Obama’s presidency while his family was inside, per a former <a href="https://www.secretservice.gov/newsroom/releases/2022/03/former-uniformed-division-k-9-officer-hurricane-awarded-distinguished">USSS release.</a>
Longtime handler Marshall Mirarchi, who served in the Secret Service’s Special Operations Division from 2006 to 2017, later <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/pre-viral/2025/02/19/very-good-boy-hurricane-americas-most-decorated-dog-dies-at-16/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">talked about</a> the pup&#8217;s actions and said the intruder “beat Hurricane really bad. But Hurricane did not give up.”
Shortly after the incident, Hurricane retired due to the injuries but was always credited with being a “very good boy.”
“On every shift of every day, we at the Secret Service strive to uphold five core values; Duty, Honor, Loyalty, Justice, and Courage,” Uniformed Division Assistant Chief Michael Buck said during a ceremony that honored the four-legged hero with the Distinguished Service Medal. “They are the five points of our agency’s star, and on a dark night in October 2014, they were embodied by a very good boy named Hurricane.&#8221;
Hurricane’s name and legacy will live on through a <a href="https://www.k9hurricanesheroes.org/our-mission">non-profit organization</a> called “Hurricane’s Heroes,” created in his name to help cover medical expenses for retired law enforcement and military dogs, per its website.
K9 Hurricane’s Heroes, a federally recognized, non-profit organization, provides “retired law enforcement and military dogs” with subsidized veterinary care so they can live a long and healthy life. Often these incredible dogs are the unsung heroes behind the operations put in place to keep us safe,&#8221; its mission statement read.

Peanut, an orphaned squirrel who became a social media sensation after being rescued by a New York couple, was euthanized by the State of New York this week.
His crime? Being a squirrel.
“Peanut was an indoor squirrel, not harming anybody,” Mark Longo, one of Peanut’s owners, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/internet-sensation-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-new-york-state-government" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told TMZ</a> on Friday. “He’s been with us for seven years. Not a single complaint was ever filed,” he added.
You can’t say the same about President Joe Biden’s German Shepherds, Major and Commander, whose history of attacking innocent bystanders has long cast a pall over the White House.
Major, the older of the dogs, “attacked” a Secret Service agent “unprovoked” in 2021, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/21/politics/commander-biden-secret-service-bites-white-house/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. That incident “caused a breach of trust” between the Bidens and the Secret Service, according to the CNN report. Major was <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/08/politics/president-joe-biden-white-house-dogs/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sent permanently</a> back to Delaware in May 2021, shortly after the incident.
But that was only the beginning. In December 2021, the Bidens <a href="https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/national-international/welcome-to-the-white-house-bidens-adopt-new-puppy/2915411/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">welcomed</a> Commander to the White House.
That’s when the trouble began.
As of February 2024, Commander had bitten Secret Service personnel in at least 24 separate incidents, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/21/politics/commander-biden-secret-service-bites-white-house/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Commander reportedly bit <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bad-dog-or-bad-owner-bidens-dog-cant-stop-biting-people-records-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">seven people</a> in a four-month stretch of 2023 alone. Biden reportedly witnessed several of Commander’s attacks himself, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-witnessed-his-dog-attack-multiple-secret-service-members-document" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to documents obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request.
The document also revealed that Secret Service agents would wish each other a “safe shift” before heading to work with Biden and the dog. Commander <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bad-dog-or-bad-owner-bidens-dog-cant-stop-biting-people-records-show" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> bit one agent so hard, he had to go to the hospital.
“The View” host Whoopi Goldberg attempted to laugh off Commander’s attacks in February, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-view-host-laughs-off-bidens-bite-happy-dog-what-did-he-see-that-nobody-else-saw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Goldberg joked that perhaps Commander was able to “see” something “that nobody else saw.”
But Commander is so violent, even liberal media outlets have begun to draw attention to the problem. Days after Goldberg’s comments, Slate <a href="https://slate.com/human-interest/2024/02/joe-biden-dog-commander-white-house-secret-service.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> an article headlined “How Is Joe Biden’s Dog Not Dead Yet?”
“Aggressive dogs have been put down for far, far less,” the piece notes.
Aggressive dogs, yes. But also, as we now know, peaceful squirrels.

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/france">French</a> actor who requested for his pet <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/dogs">dog</a> to be euthanized and buried with him has been denied by his family as multiple animal activist groups spoke out against the idea.
Alain Delon died on Sunday at the age of 88. The French <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">film star</a> became an international sex symbol beginning in the 1960s, starring in the crime thriller “Purple Noon” that year. He received multiple awards over the course of his career including the César Award for Best Actor for his role in “Notre histoire” (1984).
Delon started making headlines after his death due to a 2018 interview he did with Paris Match magazine. During the conversation, the actor expressed his intentions for his pet.
&#8220;He is my end of life dog. A Belgian shepherd who I love like a child,&#8221; Delon told the outlet at the time, per <a href="https://ew.com/alain-delon-family-rejects-late-actors-wish-to-have-his-dog-euthanized-8699411">Entertainment Weekly</a>. “I’ve had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a special relationship with this one. He misses me when I’m not there.”
The actor added, &#8220;If I die before him I will ask the vet to let us go together. He will inject him so that he dies in my arms. I would rather that than knowing that he would let himself die on my grave with so much suffering.&#8221;
The dog in question is a healthy 10-year-old Belgian malinois named Loubo. Delon had previously buried the remains of at least 35 of his deceased dogs in a cemetery on the grounds of his home, The Guardian <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/aug/20/alain-delon-family-refuse-to-put-down-dog-actor-wished-to-be-buried-with">reported</a>. The actor’s children mentioned his current pet when announcing their father’s passing.
“Alain-Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, as well as Loubo, are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father,” their joint statement said.

Multiple animal rights organizations spoke out on the matter. The French Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) <a href="https://x.com/SPA_Officiel/status/1825565691409268958">shared</a> on X, “The life of an animal should not be conditioned by that of a human. The SPA is volunteering to take in his dog and find him a family.”
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation also posted about the issue, writing on Instagram that followers need not worry about Loubo. They shared that Delon’s family had been in touch and confirmed the animal would not be put down as his owner requested.
A spokesperson for the same organization had similar reassurances in their <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/aug/20/alain-delon-family-refuse-to-put-down-dog-actor-wished-to-be-buried-with">statement</a> to The Guardian. “I’ve just had Anouchka Delon on the phone and she has told me that Loubo is part of the family and will be kept. The dog will not be put down.”

Actress <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Angie Harmon</a> said she’s still grieving the loss of her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/dogs">dog</a>, Oliver, who was shot and killed on March 30 by an Instacart delivery driver. 
The 51-year-old actress told <a href="https://people.com/angie-harmon-opens-up-about-dog-death-suing-instacart-and-driver-exclusive-8648337">People</a> in a new interview that she was upstairs feeding her rescued pet squirrels when she heard the gunshot. She said she heard her 18-year-old daughter scream, &#8220;Oh my God. Oh my God. Did you just shoot our dog!?&#8221;
&#8220;We were running, screaming, crying. I remember thinking how weird — like, why isn&#8217;t he helping? Why is he just watching us like entertainment?&#8221; Harmon said of Instacart worker Christopher Anthoney Reid&#8217;s reaction.
Per the police statement, Reid said &#8220;the dog attacked him and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog.&#8221; 
&#8220;Yeah, I shot your dog. I shot him,&#8221; Harmon alleges Reid said at the time. The actress claimed, &#8220;He just kept saying that over and over and over again. He wasn&#8217;t agitated. He wasn&#8217;t afraid. He wasn&#8217;t mad. He wasn&#8217;t sorry. He wasn&#8217;t helping us. He wasn&#8217;t anything. I was like, &#8216;What are you talking about?'&#8221;
She also alleges that Reid didn’t appear injured while questioned by law enforcement. &#8220;But he didn&#8217;t have a mark on him. He didn&#8217;t have a scratch; he didn&#8217;t have torn jeans. He didn&#8217;t have puncture marks. Most importantly, he didn&#8217;t ask for help. He says he was attacked multiple times by Ollie and that he had to kick him off. But he didn&#8217;t even ask for a Band-Aid or an ambulance.&#8221;
The actress went on to describe taking the injured animal to the emergency vet.
&#8220;I just couldn&#8217;t breathe. I couldn&#8217;t get up, I couldn&#8217;t do anything, and I couldn&#8217;t help him as much as I kept trying, I kept failing,&#8221; Harmon told the outlet. &#8220;When I went in there, they were doing CPR on him, and they did that for 7 to 13 minutes. And then everything just got really still. There I was watching him covered in his blood.&#8221;
The actress is suing both Instacart and Reid, alleging that he was delivering items using someone else’s account, which the company does not permit. People noted that Harmon is seeking $25,000 for damages, accusing Reid of trespassing, conversion, negligence, negligent supervision/hiring, invasion of privacy, and negligent misrepresentation.
&#8220;It&#8217;s just so unnecessary. If this man was afraid of dogs, why is he a delivery person hiding under a false identity, carrying a gun?&#8221; the “Rizzoli &amp; Isles” alum told the outlet. &#8220;If he&#8217;s so scared of dogs, why wouldn&#8217;t he have pepper spray, an air horn or a stick? There&#8217;s no way that this man was in such bodily danger that he needed a gun to shoot our 43-pound dog.&#8221;
She said now she and her daughters are still suffering following the incident. &#8220;We&#8217;re all in therapy for PTSD. There is no reason for anybody to go through this, none,&#8221; Harmon said.

My therapist said, &#8216;When you go through trauma at your home, you get rid of all the things that are unnecessary,&#8217; and that&#8217;s exactly what I&#8217;ve been doing because I&#8217;m trying to make my home feel safe again because it doesn&#8217;t right now.&#8221;
&#8220;This is horribly wrong. I feel neglected, unsafe and feel like people and their pets don&#8217;t mean anything. It&#8217;s how we all feel. The fact that [Reid] just got away with it and that Instacart is like, &#8216;Oh, well, we&#8217;ll shut his account down.&#8217; It&#8217;s not enough,&#8221; Harmon added.
&#8220;I&#8217;m still bawling and crying. I can feel myself shaking. It&#8217;s difficult — unfathomable — but we can&#8217;t just sit back and do nothing. We can&#8217;t just sit by and take our rebate from Instacart and say, &#8216;Okay, thank you.&#8217; This is like a public service announcement,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I mean, people need to know that this is what could happen.&#8221;

Zoogoers in China became upset after discovering that an advertised Panda exhibit actually just contained dogs that were painted white and black.
It happened at the Taizhou Zoo in Jiangsu Province on May 1, when people went to see what was advertised as a new exhibit of pandas and instead saw painted Chow Chow dogs, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/05/06/lifestyle/zoogoers-outraged-to-discover-panda-exhibit-was-actually-dogs-dyed-black-and-white/?utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter">New York Post</a> reported. Photos and videos of the fake pandas have since gone <a href="https://x.com/MerGarza/status/1787822776633454768">viral</a>.
Zoo officials reportedly dyed the faces of the dogs black and trimmed their hair to make them look like the popular bamboo-eating bears. They then put the fake pandas in the exhibit every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., drawing in people to come and see these little &#8220;bears,&#8221; per the sanctuary’s staffers. 
When zoo officials were asked why they had tricked people into thinking the dogs were pandas, one zoo rep replied, “There are no panda bears at the zoo and we wanted to do this as a result.”

Zoogoers, who thought they were going to see pandas but instead saw painted dogs, then accused the zoo officials of animal cruelty for what they had done to the pups.
One spokesperson hit back at the criticism and said, “People also dye their hair. Natural dye can be used on dogs if they have long fur.”
<a href="https://twitter.com/nypost/status/1787567909687996919">Social media users</a> seemed less upset about the pup cosplay after seeing the pictures, suggesting the dogs looked cute.
“They are very small to run that fast! I think they’re lovely,” one person wrote.
Another added, “I think they’re cute,” said another.
While a third wrote, “Well that’s an extreme way to get your dogs cared for while you’re at work lol.” 
Another person took a page out of the left&#8217;s playbook on gender ideology and joked, “Did anyone ask if the dogs were identifying as pandas? Dogs have rights as well.”
Last year, a zoo in the eastern province of Zhejiang went viral after images surfaced of a sun bear standing on its hind legs for a very long time, looking similar to a human in a costume wearing baggy pants, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/sun-bears-zoo-china-denies-humans-costume-rcna97477">NBC News</a> reported.
“Some people think I stand like a human, and it seems that you don’t understand me that much,” Hangzhou Zoo wrote on its official social media account from the perspective of the bear in the video, named Angela.
“Previously, some tourists thought that I was too tiny to be a bear,” the message added. “I have to emphasize again: I am a Malayan sun bear! Not a black bear! Not a dog! A sun bear!”
