When the Food and Drug Administration announced that the agency would be removing the black-box warning from hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, women everywhere threw their hands up in celebration.
And rightly so. America’s health agencies are finally acknowledging that women are not simply “little men,” and that research and clinical care must account for a woman’s unique biology and hormonal fluctuations across every stage of life.
But amid the cheering, some important nuance is being overlooked. The FDA’s decision to remove the black-box warning from HRT is just one example of how recommendations offered without adequate context or distinction may do more harm than good.
The idea that estrogen supplementation is a cure-all for the symptoms women commonly experience during perimenopause and menopause — hot flashes, disrupted sleep, fatigue, muscle aches, inflammation, weight gain, bloating, and mood swings — is a myth.
Often, women are not suffering from a lack of estrogen, but from what <a href="https://www.healthygutgirl.com/">Kitty Martone</a>, a holistic health educator who works with women to <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/1426024567689906">navigate perimenopause and menopause</a>, refers to as <a href="https://www.amenclinics.com/blog/what-is-estrogen-dominance/">estrogen dominance</a> — a state in which estrogen outweighs progesterone, producing symptoms that look identical to low estrogen.
Estrogen does not act in isolation, but the details are rarely explained to women. To be tolerated well, estrogen must be balanced by adequate progesterone and supported by a healthy metabolic rate. For many women, progesterone is the first hormone to decline — often years before estrogen meaningfully drops — due to chronic stress, under-eating, thyroid suppression, and blood sugar instability.
This creates a common paradox: estrogen may appear “normal,” or even low, on a lab test, yet functionally feel excessive in the body because there is not enough progesterone to counterbalance its effects. Women are then told they are estrogen-deficient and prescribed more estrogen, while symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, migraines, heavy or irregular bleeding, bloating, and inflammation intensify rather than improve.
In these cases, simply prescribing more estrogen does not resolve symptoms. In fact, it can make them worse.
These mechanisms were not understood properly during the Women’s Health Initiative study, which was abruptly halted in the early 2000s upon a suggested correlation between HRT and breast cancer as well as heart disease. In an effort to recover from the fallout of the highly <a href="https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10758198/">flawed study</a>, which caused millions of women to abandon hormone therapy altogether, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction.
Cue the pharmaceutical ads: dancing women in sunflower meadows, singing about how wonderful life is with the latest HRT option. The fine print instructs women to “ask your doctor if it’s right for you,” but many doctors may not be properly equipped to offer nuanced guidance.
Over the past few decades, medical visits have been reduced to 15–20 minute symptom reviews that are translated into billing codes entered into a computer. While this system serves insurance and data collection, it fails to treat women as whole individuals. It leaves little room to explore how diet, stress, thyroid function, gut health, or metabolic status influence hormonal symptoms — particularly in perimenopausal women.
Martone argues that this system has created an environment where estrogen is prescribed casually, without sufficient context. “Doctors now essentially have carte blanche to prescribe estrogen for any hormone complaint — without evaluating detox pathways, metabolism, liver function, or estrogen clearance.”
Some clinicians have been cautioning against this oversimplification for decades. <a href="https://raypeat.com/">Dr. Ray Peat</a>, who studied hormones, metabolism, and stress physiology extensively, <a href="https://raypeat.com/articles/aging/aging-estrogen-progesterone.shtml">wrote about</a> how estrogen tends to accumulate under conditions of chronic stress and low thyroid function, while progesterone plays a stabilizing, protective role for both the nervous system and bodily tissues.
In plain terms, how a woman feels on hormones can have less to do with hormone levels and more to do with improper functioning of the liver, metabolism, and stress load at the time therapy is introduced. Two women can take the same prescription and have completely different outcomes — not because one is “doing it wrong,” but because their internal terrain is different.
This helps explain why so many women feel dismissed when HRT is presented as a simple solution. When symptoms worsen, they are often told to increase the dose or switch brands, rather than step back and ask whether the body is prepared to handle additional estrogen.
Martone emphasizes that women often need to experiment with hormones to discover individualized therapies that are right for them. Even low doses may require careful adjustment, alternative delivery methods, and significant trial and error — an experience that can be costly, frustrating, and far from straightforward.
Meanwhile, big pharmaceutical companies are circling middle-aged women like sharks around blood. With the FDA’s decision, they’ve gained an expanded customer base — one encouraged to start hormone therapy earlier and remain on it for decades.
The truth is no one — not even a doctor — can predict exactly how a woman will respond to HRT. Hormones are powerful biological signals, not cosmetic fixes. Their effects depend heavily on the body’s metabolic health, stress physiology, and ability to process and clear them.
The renewed interest in hormone therapy reflects a real and valid desire for relief for women. But before removing warning labels and declaring HRT a universal solution, it’s worth asking why those cautions existed in the first place.
Hormone replacement therapy is not a magic bullet. Women deserve care that honors complexity, not just convenience.

President Donald Trump said on Friday that White House doctors gave him a &#8220;perfect&#8221; bill of health, adding that he &#8220;ACED&#8221; another cognitive exam as questions again swirl about the president&#8217;s health following a new Wall Street Journal report.
Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115825378093317232">wrote</a> in a post on Truth Social that White House doctors &#8220;just reported that I am in &#8216;PERFECT HEALTH,&#8217; and that I &#8216;ACED&#8217; (Meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!), for the third straight time, my Cognitive Examination, something which no other President, or previous Vice President, was willing to take.&#8221;
Trump&#8217;s statement came one day after the Wall Street Journal published an <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/as-signs-of-aging-emerge-trump-responds-with-defiance-769c5dcd?mod=hp_lead_pos1">interview</a> in which the president discussed his health as he approaches 80. In the interview with the Journal, Trump admitted to taking more aspirin than his doctors recommend, which he said led to bruising visible in photographs showing his hand.

“They’d rather have me take the smaller one,” Trump said of his aspirin dosage. “I take the larger one, but I’ve done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.”
Trump told the Journal that he continues to take the larger dose of aspirin because he&#8217;s been doing it for 25 years, adding, &#8220;I&#8217;m a little superstitious.&#8221;
“They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” Trump said. “I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”
The Journal reported that Trump&#8217;s hands have bled easily on multiple occasions, including at the 2024 Republican National Convention, when now-Attorney General Pam Bondi caused Trump&#8217;s hand to bleed when her ring nicked him during a high-five. White House aides told the Journal that Trump&#8217;s hands have been cut other times as well.
To conceal the cuts and the bruising, Trump said, “I have makeup that’s, you know, easy to put on, takes about 10 seconds.”
Trump&#8217;s doctor, Sean Barbabella, revealed in July that the president also has chronic venous insufficiency, a &#8220;benign, common condition&#8221; for people over 70, that causes swelling in his legs. Trump said that since July, the swelling has improved as he has walks around more often instead of remaining at his desk.
Trump acknowledged for weeks that he underwent an MRI scan at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in October, but when asked about the scan by the Journal, Trump corrected his previous statements, saying, “It wasn’t an MRI. It was less than that. It was a scan.” Barbabella told the Journal that Trump had a CT scan to check for any cardiovascular issues, and the scan came back showing no problems.

Trump also faced criticism after he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_odLnavZCs">appeared</a> to fall asleep during a Cabinet meeting last month. The president denied dozing off during meetings or events at the White House, saying, “I&#8217;ll just close [my eyes]. It’s very relaxing to me.”
&#8220;Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink,&#8221; he added.
Trump has discussed his unusual sleep schedule in the past, saying he gets between four and five hours each night. The president often texts, posts on Truth Social, or calls his aides and advisers in the early hours of the morning.
“I’ve never been a big sleeper,” Trump told the Journal.
Despite little sleep and nearing 80, Trump kept a jam-packed schedule throughout the first year of his second term. The president admitted that he doesn’t exercise much because he finds it &#8220;boring&#8221; and attributed his good health to his &#8220;very good genetics.&#8221;
Trump said on Friday, &#8220;I strongly believe that anyone running for President, or Vice President, should be mandatorily forced to take a strong, meaningful, and proven Cognitive Examination. Our great Country cannot be run by &#8216;STUPID&#8217; or INCOMPETENT PEOPLE!&#8221;

Poorly equipped, unsanitary, and understaffed facilities. A sewage leak caused patients to vomit. Positive sexually transmitted infection results went unreported. 
The New York Times gave a shocking <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/us/planned-parenthood-clinics.html">glimpse</a> behind the curtain of Planned Parenthood. Although the legacy media usually defends and promotes the largest U.S. provider of abortion (nearly <a href="https://cdn.plannedparenthood.org/uploads/filer_public/ec/f4/ecf43d92-fcd2-4d11-b299-e67b5c3ac394/2024-ppfa-annualreport-c3-digital.pdf">39%</a> of <a href="https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/induced-abortion-united-states">all</a> abortions in our country), some things are too egregious to ignore. 
This is what Planned Parenthood dispenses under the guise of providing “necessary women’s health care.” 
These grotesque lapses aren’t due to a lack of funding, but a lack of desire to provide quality care. According to its 2022-2023 annual <a href="https://cdn.plannedparenthood.org/uploads/filer_public/ec/f4/ecf43d92-fcd2-4d11-b299-e67b5c3ac394/2024-ppfa-annualreport-c3-digital.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, the collective organization received over $2 billion in income, including $699.3 million in taxpayer funding and $997.5 million in private donations. Yet, they don’t prioritize “care, no matter what,” as their advertising claims. Instead, they funnel money into lawsuits and to loyal politicians, spending nearly <a href="https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org/tipsheets/the-quickie-planned-parenthood-votes-launches-2024-electoral-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$40 million</a> in the 2024 election cycle.
Their goal is to overturn any limitations on abortion, even <a href="https://www.plannedparenthoodaction.org/issues/abortion/types-attacks/trap-laws" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arguing against</a> basic safety standards that would improve care for the women Planned Parenthood claims to be concerned about.
I have seen the disintegration of Planned Parenthood’s mission firsthand, as I worked part-time for a local Planned Parenthood while I was an OB-GYN resident 30 years ago. At the time, I wasn’t concerned with my ideological differences on the abortion issue, especially since they never asked me to perform abortions. I enjoyed my time there, caring for underserved women, performing necessary gynecologic services such as pap tests, well-woman exams, STI testing, and contraceptive management. Like many Americans, I assumed that abortion was only a small part of the services they provided, and that other services were addressing women’s needs. 
When I compare Planned Parenthood’s 1996-1997 annual report, which coincides with my employment there, to today, their mission is clearly more focused on abortion to the neglect of other services. Whereas they provided 1.5 million pap tests in 1996, that has plummeted by 87% to 197,617 in 2022. Adoption referrals dropped 72%, from 6,274 to 1,721. 14,292 prenatal clients have decreased to 6,316 prenatal services.
Meanwhile, the number of abortions they sell rises every year, from 153,367 in 1996 (11.3% of the 1,366,000 abortions performed that year, <a href="https://www.guttmacher.org/journals/psrh/1998/11/abortion-incidence-and-services-united-states-1995-1996" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per</a> Guttmacher Institute) to 392,715 of the estimated one million abortions sold in the U.S. in 2022 (39%). Planned Parenthood only has a few options to resolve a woman&#8217;s pregnancy: prenatal services, adoption, miscarriage care, and abortion. <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/fact-sheet-planned-parenthoods-2022-23-annual-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">97%</a> of the time, she&#8217;s sold an abortion. As an organization, then, Planned Parenthood appears to care far less about helping women through their pregnancies or plans for adoption than they do about selling women abortions. 
My recent experiences with Planned Parenthood are far different from my impression three decades ago. As an obstetric hospitalist, I have provided care for several women who suffered complications from the abortions Planned Parenthood sold them. In each case, Planned Parenthood failed to offer them an appointment or offered nonsensical advice like “rub your tummy” when they reported heavy bleeding.
But don’t just take my word for it. The media have been recently sharing horror stories highlighting their poor-quality care.
We’ve seen the stories of incomplete abortions, an IUD placed in a pregnant woman resulting in a stillbirth, and an improperly placed contraceptive which resulted in nerve damage, reported in an exposé by The New York Times.
18-year-old Alexis Arguello <a href="https://catholicvote.org/investigation-teen-dies-from-planned-parenthood-abortion-complication/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recently died</a> after a late-term abortion at a Fort Collins, CO, Planned Parenthood. According to a physician who testified about her death, the facility waited too long to notify emergency responders when she experienced a complication during her abortion at 22 weeks’ gestation. EMS was allegedly advised not to use sirens to facilitate her rapid transport to the hospital.
Instances of Planned Parenthood employees <a href="https://lawecommons.luc.edu/annals/vol23/iss1/5/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failing</a> to ask questions to identify and assist trafficked women and facilitating transport of minors out of state for abortions without parental notification have been documented many times.
Since Planned Parenthood facilities are preferentially providing abortion drugs, frequently by mail, women can’t go to them if they experience complications. Instead, these women will go to the ER, where hospitalists like me will care for them. And even if a Planned Parenthood facility were nearby, they would be incapable of providing proper treatment.
Planned Parenthood marketing has successfully gaslit Americans, convincing them that desperate women would have no health care options without Planned Parenthood. This is untrue. There are thousands of federally qualified health center service sites (FQHCs) in the U.S., providing many health services for women in need. Medicaid health insurance is accepted by most private health care providers, expanding the options for women, and also providing the prenatal services that Planned Parenthood rarely provides.
We must look beyond Planned Parenthood’s slick marketing and gaze into the soul of this heartless organization. Better care is available for women from other organizations, and women deserve better than what Planned Parenthood offers.

Gaslighting Women: It’s Time To Look Past Planned Parenthood’s Slick Marketing

Imagine that an executive of a major corporation sits down for dinner at a restaurant. Unbeknownst to him, it&#8217;s a sting operation. Everything he says is being recorded. Very quickly, in order to impress someone he thinks is interested in him, the executive confesses that his company is lying to the American public. In secret, the executive says, they&#8217;re thinking about conducting extremely dangerous medical experiments within the borders of the United States — and these experiments are similar to the ones in Wuhan that led to the COVID pandemic. Then the executive admits that government regulators aren&#8217;t scrutinizing these experiments as much as they should, for the simple reason that they don&#8217;t want to jeopardize their potential future job opportunities at the corporation. And then imagine that, once the executive realizes he&#8217;s on camera and that he&#8217;s just confessed to a fraud on the American public, he begins screaming and crawling on the floor of the restaurant. In his hysteria, he pushes people away, tries to hide his face, and ultimately runs away. He demonstrates a clear consciousness of guilt, in other words.
What do you think the end result of this kind of episode might be? In a rational world, you might expect, at a minimum, that this executive would be fired, and that his company would immediately be investigated — both by the government, and by every media organization in the country. After all, it&#8217;s not every day that a corporate executive admits that his company is working on research that could cause another pandemic. He also just divulged trade secrets on camera, which you&#8217;d think would upset his bosses.
But in reality, none of those things happened. 
The situation I just described took place in early 2023, when Project Veritas secretly filmed a senior official in Pfizer&#8217;s research and development division. You might remember that whole episode. Pfizer came out and denied, essentially, that the executive had meant what he said. As far as we know, the company took no action against him. In the end, Pfizer, needless to say, did not suffer any significant consequences. They remain one of the largest and most profitable corporations on the planet. But incredibly, the people who exposed the Pfizer executive didn&#8217;t fare so well. It was like Pfizer pulled a Reverse Uno card. 
For one thing, Project Veritas did not survive. It collapsed soon afterwards. So did the one show on cable news that covered Project Veritas&#8217; reporting, Fox News&#8217; &#8220;Tucker Carlson Tonight.&#8221; They were taken off the air shortly after covering the Pfizer sting operation, for reasons that remain officially undisclosed. To restate: Less than five months after a Pfizer executive was exposed and humiliated on camera, everyone who talked about the scandal was deplatformed. Meanwhile the executive went back to work.
If you wanted to illustrate the extraordinary power that the pharmaceutical industry has in this country, you&#8217;d be hard pressed to find a better example. One way or another, people who criticize them tend to lose their platforms. That&#8217;s a level of protection that very few other corporations have, regardless of their financial situation. Tesla, for example, is about ten times the size of Pfizer by market cap. And as we all know, they&#8217;re subjected to constant media attacks. So what is it about the pharmaceutical industry, specifically, that makes them so hard to criticize?

The leading theory, which we&#8217;ve talked about before, is that companies like Pfizer essentially buy off the media. You can&#8217;t watch Fox or CNN or MSNBC without seeing an ad from the pharmaceutical industry. In total, the pharmaceutical industry <a href="https://substack.com/home/post/p-159740117?utm_campaign=post&amp;utm_medium=web" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spends</a> something like $5 billion on advertising every year — which in some years, is <a href="https://marylandmatters.org/2024/01/19/report-finds-some-drug-manufacturers-spend-more-on-advertising-executives-salaries-than-new-research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more</a> than they spend on research and development. And a lot of this spending is concentrated on news stations. As the journalist Kyle Becker reported on his Substack, &#8220;Nearly 31% of ad minutes on major nightly news broadcasts in 2024 came from pharmaceutical brands.&#8221; If you watch any amount of cable news, you know that figure is probably accurate. Turn the television on, and you&#8217;ll probably see one of these ads within five minutes. These are among the most lucrative ad purchases — pushing drugs like Ozempic, Skyrizi, &#8220;Vyvgart Hytrulo,&#8221; and so on. Naturally, that kind of spending leads to favorable coverage. Big Pharma doesn&#8217;t even need to establish any kind of quid pro quo, or request anything from the news networks. It&#8217;s just generally understood that, if you&#8217;re working for one of these networks, you should go easy on the pharma giants.
This dynamic is one of the reasons why a lot of people took notice recently, on hearing the news that RFK Jr. and the HHS had supposedly implemented a total ban on direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising. Those reports turned out to be inaccurate, at least for the time being. But RFK Jr. has pledged to implement a similar ban in the past. And he&#8217;s been very clear about his reasoning. While he was campaigning for Trump last year, and while he was leading his own presidential bid, for example, RFK Jr. made the point that pharmaceutical advertising has compromised the news industry. He&#8217;s also said that, in part because of these advertisements, Americans spend far more on prescription drugs than pretty much every other major country. By some estimates we spend more than twice as much.
And it&#8217;s logical to conclude that advertising plays some role in those numbers. When people see an advertisement for a new prescription drug, they&#8217;re more likely to tell their doctor they want it, as opposed to a cheaper generic brand. Keep in mind, only two countries on the planet allow direct-to-consumer pharmaceutical advertising: the United States and New Zealand. The vast majority of the civilized world has rejected this kind of marketing. And one of the obvious consequences of this carve-out for big pharma is that they sell a lot more drugs to people who otherwise wouldn&#8217;t pay for them. They wouldn&#8217;t spend $5 billion a year on advertisements if that weren&#8217;t true. (And this isn&#8217;t even getting into Big Pharma advertisements and solicitations that target physicians and other professionals).
Just to give one example, in 2022, the manufacturer of the drug Skyrizie, AbbVie, spent around $229 million advertising the drug that year. The next year, AbbVie decided to increase its advertising budget for the drug by more than double. And the results were clear: drug sales went up to $7.8 billion, an increase of roughly 50% year-over-year. There was no major FDA approval that occurred in this period. The drug&#8217;s formula didn&#8217;t change in some way. Instead, more people heard about it, so more people asked their doctors for it. And by the way, the vast majority of the $7.8 billion came from customers in the United States, because they&#8217;re pretty much the only people seeing the advertisements.
This advertising exemption, of course, is just one of several carve-outs that Big Pharma enjoys in this country. It&#8217;s also nearly impossible to sue them when one of their vaccines ends up hurting or killing you, thanks to a federal law passed three decades ago. But the advertising carve-out is one of the most important ones, because it has a lot of downstream effects that aren&#8217;t immediately obvious. One of those effects is that the ads increase the price of the drugs. When billions of dollars are spent on advertising, inevitably that cost will be passed on to the consumers. This is basic economics and common sense, and doctors see it everyday. As far back as a decade ago — when direct-to-consumer advertising was much less common than it is today — the American Medical Association noticed the problem. They voted to ban all direct-to-consumer advertising.
The chair of the AMA, a woman named Patrice Harris, announced that, “Today’s vote in support of an advertising ban reflects concerns among physicians about the negative impact of commercially-driven promotions, and the role that marketing costs play in fueling escalating drug prices. Direct-to-consumer advertising also inflates demand for new and more expensive drugs, even when these drugs may not be appropriate.”
It&#8217;s true that, by law, these advertisements have to list all of the potential side effects. Invariably, they rattle them off at the end of the commercial, and they do it so quickly that you can&#8217;t really tell what&#8217;s happening in some cases. Pretty much everyone ignores these disclaimers at this point, because they all end up sounding like a bizarre list of horrible afflictions, always ending in death or paralysis or something catastrophic. You can watch an ad for Claritin and they&#8217;ll tell you that the side effects could include getting hit by a train or something. It&#8217;s almost as if the drugmakers have trained us to become numb to all of these potential side effects, and to think they&#8217;re all extremely rare and unlikely to occur.

That&#8217;s because, even with the often comically long disclaimer at the end of these drug commercials, the ads still don&#8217;t do enough to emphasize the potential side effects and dangers of the drugs. They don&#8217;t discuss the relative risk of every side effect, or how common they are, for example. And that makes sense because ads — regardless of who&#8217;s making them — are meant to manipulate and create an emotional response in a very short period of time. That&#8217;s fine when you&#8217;re selling cars or clothing or whatever. But it just shouldn&#8217;t be the way medical treatments are presented to the public. People should consult with professionals when they&#8217;re seeking these treatments, instead of watching paid actors sing a song about it.
But pharmaceutical ads, by design, short-circuit this process. They allow Big Pharma companies to sell the disease, not just the cure. They convince people that they have such-and-such a disorder and enlist them to go to their doctor and request the drug to treat it. This is totally backwards. You&#8217;re supposed to go to the doctor with your symptoms, not with a wishlist of drugs you want to receive. Pharma ads have helped to turn doctors into glorified drug dealers. About a dozen studies bear this out. Patients who go to the doctor and say &#8220;I saw an ad for Paxlovid&#8221; or &#8220;I saw an ad for Prozac&#8221; are a lot more likely to get that drug, than a patient who simply presents with depression-related symptoms. And on top of that, these advertisements have also contributed to the perception that, whatever problem you might have — whether it&#8217;s depression, or &#8220;feeling like you&#8217;re in the wrong body,&#8221; or whatever — that a drug from Big Pharma can be the solution. As we&#8217;ve discussed, this is a sentiment that has ruined the lives of thousands of people, including children.
Part of the reason this perception has been allowed to fester, as Liz Wheeler pointed out the other day, is that there&#8217;s no critical reporting on Big Pharma in the mainstream press. The pharmaceutical industry is allowed to buy billions of dollars&#8217; worth of advertising, which presents them as the solution to everyone&#8217;s problems. And then the press — along with many scientific institutions that also receive money from Big Pharma— don&#8217;t have any incentive to contradict the narrative. If and when HHS does ban these advertisements, then suddenly, that incentive will reappear. Very quickly, corporate media will fail, because they&#8217;ll be deprived of most of their advertising revenue. And in their place will be a slew of investigations by actual journalists into the various grotesque abuses of power by the medical establishment in recent years — on everything from gender ideology to the COVID shot.
As of right now, again, it appears that the reports were wrong about an imminent ban on these direct-to-consumer advertisements. But there are reasons to think that RFK Jr. and HHS are still planning to implement one. If that comes to pass — and there are indicators it will — then it would inevitably set up a major legal battle between Big Pharma and the federal government on First Amendment grounds. They will claim that they have the constitutional right to flood the airwaves with sales pitches for extremely potent medications that could ruin your life. But they don&#8217;t have that right, any more than the local drug dealer does. If RFK Jr. can win this fight, then in one fell swoop, he will destroy the corporate press, save billions of dollars for Americans, and usher in a new era of skepticism for an industry that badly needs it. He would be the single most consequential HHS secretary in the history of this country. All he needs to do is what pretty much every country in the world is already doing, which is to tell Big Pharma to get off our televisions.

As the Senate considers Dr. Martin Makary’s nomination to lead the Food and Drug Administration, the safety of all Americans — especially women and children — must be a top priority. For far too long, the FDA has been grossly negligent regarding essential safeguards surrounding the abortion-inducing drug mifepristone. Dr. Makary’s initial hearing provided a glimpse into his commitment to <a href="https://grabien.com/file/getmedia?id=2831540&amp;key=756f0397187f6b49fdaab04e60406327&amp;userid=17147">data-based approaches</a> to providing the best care for our patients. I’m hopeful that this expected confirmation will stand as a first step to the FDA reprioritizing the health and safety of women and children.
Despite the common refrain that abortion should be a decision &#8220;between a woman and her doctor,&#8221; doctors are too often left out of the picture by what has become a highly politicized and aggressively pro-abortion FDA. To the detriment of women’s health and safety, the FDA has for too long made women’s health a pawn in abortion politics by promoting drug-induced abortions as safe and recklessly ignoring the necessity of proper medical oversight.
Due in large part to the Biden-era FDA’s gutting of the requirements necessary to take mifepristone, women today are denied crucial medical care in life’s most vulnerable moments. In fact, the FDA has recklessly removed its requirements that women meet with a doctor before taking abortion drugs, thereby denying women the chance to be screened for life-threatening conditions like ectopic pregnancy or to confirm how far along she is in her pregnancy. 
My 20 years of caring for women as an OB/GYN have affirmed what the medical literature <a href="https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2017/05/methods-for-estimating-the-due-date">shows</a> — the only way to ensure accurate dating of a pregnancy is to examine a woman in person, ideally with an ultrasound. This is crucial, because an error of just a couple of weeks could mean a significant increase in risk for the woman if she takes these drugs.
To be clear, I would never recommend dangerous drug-induced or surgical abortions to any woman or teen who comes to me for care, especially when so many life-affirming alternatives exist to effectively care for both mother and child. 
The FDA also shamefully fails to require any follow-up visits, even though their own label on mifepristone states roughly one in 25 women who take it will end up in the emergency room. Selling women the lie that these drugs are safe, especially without the benefit of ongoing care with a doctor, is unethical.
With the urging of abortion advocates, and without appropriate evidence to support it, the FDA has also allowed abortion drugs to be shipped to women by mail, delivered straight to their doorsteps. This move not only puts women in danger of taking <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2022/08/01/the-web-is-home-to-an-illegal-bazaar-for-abortion-pills-the-fda-is-ill-equipped-to-stop-it-00048802">counterfeit drugs</a> that could cause them harm, but it also makes them <a href="https://lozierinstitute.org/hidden-epidemic-nearly-70-of-abortions-are-coerced-unwanted-or-inconsistent-with-womens-preferences/">vulnerable to coercion and abuse.</a>
The new FDA leadership must prioritize women’s health by implementing key reforms. 
First, they should reinstate the requirement for in-person doctor visits so women can receive individualized counseling and fully informed consent, along with being adequately screened for potentially life-threatening conditions. It&#8217;s a simple but essential principle of medical ethics that patients have a right to informed consent before taking these high-risk drugs — something that can only happen with an in-person visit and individualized counseling. Even the pro-abortion American College of OB/GYNs (ACOG) <a href="https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2021/02/informed-consent-and-shared-decision-making-in-obstetrics-and-gynecology" target="_blank" rel="noopener">notes</a> that an adequate informed consent process is one where patients are “free to ask questions” and make a choice about their care, including refusing treatment. It’s impossible to have this tailored conversation when abortion drugs are dispensed online with no in-person interaction with a medical professional.
Next, should a woman choose to pursue a drug-induced abortion, the FDA should restore the seven week gestational age limit (currently 10 weeks) to decrease the risks associated with these drugs, as well as require abortion providers to see a woman for a follow&#8211;up visit to ensure her abortion is complete and to evaluate for and treat any complications she might be experiencing. This would be consistent with what was originally recommended when the drug entered the market and would reduce risks to women. With these protections in place, our federal leaders, regardless of their personal position on induced abortion, can at the very least reduce the risk of women dying from complications of abortion drugs and ensure that all women are receiving fully informed consent before taking them.
Reinstating the FDA’s original safety regulations for mifepristone is an essential first step toward protecting the health and safety of women across the nation. Women and girls seeking an induced abortion are often in a vulnerable and uncertain time of their lives. Rather than ensuring that they receive accurate information and ongoing medical care, the FDA has sold them a lie and denied them appropriate care. We all should work together to bring this negligence to an end.
Women and girls deserve the best medical care possible that is individualized and evidence-based. I&#8217;m hopeful that with Dr. Makary&#8217;s leadership the FDA will restore safety as the priority for American women and girls. Our patients deserve nothing less.

The following is an edited transcript of a recent interview between Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley and Harmeet Dhillon, managing partner at The Dhillon Law Group.
Post-election polling shows that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-kamalas-focus-on-gender-ideology-cost-her-the-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transgender issue</a> was a top three issue that drove voters to Trump and away from Harris. The data comes as more states are shutting down transgender procedures for minors and lawsuits are beginning to mount against healthcare professionals who’ve pushed the trans agenda.

JOHN: Joining us to discuss is Harmeet Dhillon, whose legal firm the Dhillon Law Group has been leading the fight against potentially permanent procedures performed on children. Harmeet, thanks for coming on.
HARMEET: Thanks for having me.
JOHN: First, many have said that the trans agenda – including boys in girls sport and trans surgeries for prisoners and illegal immigrants – was a &#8220;sleeper issue&#8221; this year. We&#8217;ve done some <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harris-pledged-to-use-taxpayer-money-to-fund-sex-change-surgeries-for-illegal-aliens-in-detention-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reporting</a> at Daily Wire about this. Do you see data that it did in fact impact this election?
HARMEET: Well, I would say the data that I saw was from the Trump campaign and its allies, and they certainly focused hard on that issue. And I&#8217;m sure that was in response to data. We&#8217;ve done some work, a lot of work actually. We&#8217;ve been a national leader on the issue of suing doctors who mutilate girls and also representing parents whose civil rights are violated by not having access to the information they need to parent their children properly on this issue and many other issues. So we&#8217;ve done a lot of litigation on it. It did pick up in the national pulse. Our client, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/to-the-la-times-get-a-life-i-have-lives-to-save" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chloe Cole</a>, has been prominently featured by some messaging on these issues. She&#8217;s a girl who detransitioned, now a young woman, and is suing Kaiser Permanente here in California over that. She&#8217;s been a landmark voice on these issues, testifying around the country. I know it has motivated legislatures to change the law and that I think is definitely a talking point in those states. A lot of red states, purple states — it&#8217;s a huge issue. It&#8217;s not a huge issue here in California, even on the opposite side. I don&#8217;t see a lot of activists going to bat for this issue. And so I think we are really within a striking distance of President Trump being able to severely cut back on the prevalence of this issue through cutting back federal funding or other ways to do it. For once, America needs to catch up with Europe and the rest of the world where these procedures are simply not being done, for the most part, on children because they don&#8217;t work.

JOHN: Right, there’s been dramatic movement away from these sorts of procedures in several European countries. Are you seeing progress on this issue in the courts, legally?
HARMEET: No, it&#8217;s too early in the courts. We literally filed the first, second, and third lawsuits on this issue in the country. I think other lawyers are joining us and so these cases are winding their way through the court system or through arbitration because Kaiser tries to force people into arbitration – so do other medical providers. And one of the issues, why there are so few cases, is because there&#8217;s a statute of limitations that are very short and really keep the window very narrow for these young women, largely women, to file lawsuits. And so it&#8217;s heartbreaking, the number of people we simply can&#8217;t help, because of these statute of limitations issues. I do think that&#8217;s going to make a difference. But the bigger and faster and more effective long-term difference is going to be legislatures banning these procedures on children. Medical boards taking away the licenses of doctors who commit medical malpractice, which I believe most of these doctors are doing. I mean, literally you have cases where people go in, some guidance counselor sends them for one session with some rubber stamper who then goes and gets the girl&#8217;s breasts cut off. It&#8217;s shocking and outrageous. You have to go through more hassle to get liposuction, I believe, than to get your breasts cut off as a young girl. So, it&#8217;s insane and it needs to stop. We shouldn&#8217;t rely on the courts and lawyers. We should ask Republican legislatures — and Democrat legislatures, frankly, if they care about humans — to stop this practice.
JOHN: Well, we&#8217;ve seen decisive action here in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tennessee-asks-scotus-to-uphold-ban-on-trans-surgeries-for-minors-amid-doj-challenge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee </a>to shut down these potentially permanent procedures for children – that’s been really heartening for those working to end it. The weaponization of the U.S. Department of Justice against purported enemies of the Biden-Harris administration is nothing new. The Department’s persecution of pro-life advocates, praying grandmothers, and fathers of young children under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (while routinely ignoring arson and vandalism at crisis pregnancy centers chargeable under the same law) is hard to deny.
But the Department’s meritless criminal prosecution of Dr. Eithan Haim, a whistleblowing physician who exposed covert gender medicine procedures inflicted on minors at Texas Children’s Hospital — performed in violation of state law — is an outrageous abuse of its law enforcement authority.
The principal wrongdoer in Dr. Haim’s case — leading the charge in his criminal prosecution for alleged violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) — is Assistant United States Attorney Tina Ansari, a Democratic donor who targeted Haim in part during a time when her law license had been suspended by the Texas Bar for failure to pay her bar dues.
As legal scholar Ed Whelan has correctly <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/bench-memos/dojs-false-pretenses-prosecution-of-whistleblower-dr-eithan-haim/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed</a> out, the only reason Haim was targeted was because “he ran afoul of the transgender ideology that dominates” the current presidential administration.
But now, in <a href="https://eppc.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/179145791960.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pleadings</a> filed by Dr. Haim’s lawyers and in separate complaints filed by a former DOJ lawyer with both the State Bar of Texas and the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility, Ansari is accused of having “knowingly sponsored false information” to the federal grand jury that indicted Haim and of having “knowingly misled a tribunal and presented deliberately misleading information to a grand jury.”
In other words, she wasn’t just practicing law on a suspended license. She is charged with lying to the grand jury to get Haim indicted — itself a violation of federal law.
As journalist Christopher Rufo <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/sex-change-procedures-at-texas-childrens-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, Dr. Haim knew the hospital “secretly continued to perform transgender medical interventions, including the use of implantable puberty blockers, on minor children” after it assured the public it was no longer engaging in such medically dangerous and risky actions. Haim did not disclose the name of any patients, or any personally identifiable medical information protected by federal law under HIPAA (<a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/42/1320d-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">42 U.S.C. §§1320d-6</a>).
The Justice Department didn’t care. It charged Haim with criminally violating HIPAA anyway, arguing that he had disclosed “individually identifiable health information,” something explicitly prohibited by HIPAA.
The punishment for such a conviction? Up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The original grand jury indictment claimed he had obtained HIPAA-protected patient medical information through “false pretenses.” Haim had, allegedly, accessed the medical records after he completed his surgical rotation at Texas Children’s Hospital in January 2021 and had no more patients there. But, according to the ethics complaints and a motion for grand jury material filed by Haim’s lawyers, Haim did still have patients at the hospital, and Ansari and other government prosecutors knew it. That would have made his access of patient records entirely legal under HIPAA.
The hospital provided records to the government showing that Haim continued to treat patients at the hospital after his residency was over, during the time when the grand jury indictment claims he wasn’t treating any patients and had no legal right to access patient records. All of this is also apparent in a “<a href="https://eppc.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/DOC.76.Superseding-Indictment.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Superseding Indictment</a>” Ansari filed on Oct. 10 that, as the defense points out, deletes all references to Haim accessing patient records when he was supposedly no longer treating patients at the hospital. Yet the new indictment still claims he obtained those records under “false pretenses.”
As a result, Haim’s lawyers asked the court to provide them with access to all of the materials the grand jury considered when it issued the original indictment.
Why? Because the documents would likely show that the hospital told Ansari that Haim was continuing to treat patients at the hospital when she was making presentations to the grand jury claiming the opposite.
Grand jury materials are secret under <a href="https://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcrmp/rule_6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">applicable</a> federal rules of criminal procedure. But the grand jury materials should be released in this case, says Haim’s lawyers, under the exceptions provided in the rules, to determine if the government “knowingly” sponsored “false information before the grand jury” and if that false information was “capable” of “influencing the grand jury’s decision.”
The lawyers are right when they tell the court that if “the government has made material misleading statements to the grand jury, the defense should be permitted to review the relevant grand jury material.”
Haim has also filed a “Show Cause” motion asking the court to issue an order against Ansari for “engaging in the practice of law with a suspended law license.” The motion says she was administratively suspended on Sept. 1 for not paying her bar dues. She responded that she remedied this problem as of Sept. 19.
But as Haim’s attorneys point out, Ansari was signing and filing pleadings in the case during her suspension, which violates the Texas Code of Professional Conduct, the court’s own rules, and the internal rules of the Justice Department that direct DOJ lawyers to immediately cease their representation of the government during such a lapse.
Not surprisingly, Ansari is a big donor to Democrat candidates, having contributed a total of $11,350, which is quite a bit of money for a career civil service employee. Mind you, there is nothing illegal about those donations, but as the complaint filed against her with the Office of Professional Responsibility at DOJ states, it raises serious questions on whether “her specific ideological or political view as it related to the highly controversial issues in this prosecution” biased her judgment and prompted her to mislead a federal grand jury.

The pursuit of Dr. Haim is simply outrageous. As one of Haim’s principal lawyers, Marcella Burke, told us, “DOJ has charged Dr. Haim with a non-existent crime. At a charitable minimum, this is a reckless prosecution and at its extreme, it is malicious prosecution.”
The fact that the indictment hasn’t been dropped indicates what’s really going on here. Because Haim didn’t release any personal medical information about any patient, something HIPAA prevents, the new indictment now charges him with allegedly acting to “cause malicious harm” to the hospital and its physicians.
And what is the “malicious harm” Haim caused? Apparently, the Justice Department believes that he inflicted “malicious harm” by letting the public know that a children’s hospital was lying when it claimed it was no longer inflicting transgender medical abuse on its minor patients and that the hospital was violating Texas law.
That is a prosecution based on politics and ideology, not the law and the interests of justice or, for that matter, of the public at large. While the prosecution continues against Dr. Haim, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has <a href="https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/news/releases/paxton-announces-second-investigation-texas-hospital-potentially-unlawfully-performing-gender" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> an investigation into Texas Children’s Hospital for performing gender “affirming” medicine in violation of state law.
The Lonestar State has outlawed hormone replacement therapy for minors and other forms of “gender-affirming care,” if that type of mistreatment can be called “care.” AG Paxton has <a href="https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/news/releases/attorney-general-ken-paxton-sues-doctor-illegally-providing-harmful-gender-transition-treatments" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> that “doctors who continue to provide these harmful ‘gender transition’ drugs and treatments will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
If his claim is true, Dr. Haim should be praised for exposing wrongdoing at Texas Children’s Hospital. Instead, he faces a federal criminal indictment. Sadly, the U.S. Justice Department’s view of law enforcement now appears to be driven by politics, not justice.

Nearly 14,000 children underwent sex changes across the country from 2019 to 2023, according to a new database that tracks transgender children’s clinics.
Do No Harm, an association of medical professionals opposed to the politicization of medicine, this week launched <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/about/">&#8220;Stop The Harm,&#8221;</a> a database that tracks &#8220;sex change treatments being performed on minors at healthcare facilities in the United States.&#8221; The group found that, from 2019 to 2023, at least 13,994 children underwent sex changes, for which doctors submitted charges of around $119 million. That is likely an underestimate, as the analysis could not account for claims from certain insurance companies or those who paid in cash.
The database tracks children’s hospitals and other providers that offer puberty blockers, cross sex hormones, and surgeries that seek to change the gender of children. Users can view lists of children’s hospitals that provide sex change operations on children in their state, also viewing the profiles of some of the worst-offending hospitals.
Ann and Robert H. Lurie <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/hospital/ann-robert-h-lurie-childrens-hospital-of-chicago/">Children’s Hospital of Chicago</a>, for example, had 145 child sex change patients from 2019 to 2023, including 39 surgery patients. It also charged $274,000 for child sex change interventions. Oregon’s <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/state/oregon/">Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center</a> had 267 child sex change patients and 223 surgery patients.
The report also highlights doctors who’ve billed the highest sums of money for sex change interventions on children. At Boston Children’s Hospital, one doctor billed a whopping $5.19 million for sex change interventions for children, the highest of any single provider.
Dr. Oren Ganor of Boston Children’s Hospital has been highlighted as an “affirming pediatric and adolescent medicine provider” by a transgender activist <a href="https://www.glad.org/affirming-medical-providers-in-massachusetts/">organization</a>. Ganor “<a href="https://www.health.harvard.edu/authors/oren-ganor-md">specializes</a> in complex reconstructions, microsurgery, and gender-affirming surgeries” and is “deeply invested in clinical research, and aspires to use research to improve the field of gender-confirming surgery.” The Daily Wire asked Boston Children’s Hospital if it could identify Dr. Ganor as the individual who billed the sum, but did not receive a response.
One doctor at New York’s Mount Sinai Beth Israel billed $4.59 million for sex change interventions, while a doctor at Stanford doctor came in third after billing $4.15 million.
The site also highlights the “Dirty Dozen,” which Do No Harm calls the “worst-offending children’s hospitals promoting sex change treatments for minors.”
“To select our list, we identified each hospital and pediatric facility offering sex change treatments and considered a combination of factors to determine the institution’s engagement in performing and promoting sex change treatments on minors,” Do No Harm said. “We considered legislative activism, such as explicit policy statements and/or testimony in favor of legislation, in addition to community activism, such as promoting sex change treatments among local schools and youth groups.”
One of the hospitals on the list, <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/hospital/seattle-childrens/">Seattle Children’s,</a> had 285 sex change patients from 2019 to 2023, including 50 surgery patients. The <a href="https://stoptheharmdatabase.com/hospital/childrens-hospital-los-angeles/">Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles</a>, meanwhile, recorded 265 sex change interventions from 2019 to 2023 including 165 surgery patients. It also billed nearly $1.75 million in charges for sex change interventions.
San Diego&#8217;s Rady Children&#8217;s Hospital and Children&#8217;s Hospital Colorado, which saw 136 and 120 patients, respectively, both made it onto the dirty dozen list as well.
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-how-one-of-americas-largest-school-districts-became-a-pipeline-for-a-trans-youth-clinic">previously reported</a> that the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District to promote sex change operations to parents of school children, with district personnel reaching out to the hospital to facilitate one student’s transition.
Sex change interventions for children have not been relegated to the coasts and traditionally left-wing states, however. In Nashville, Tennessee’s Vanderbilt University Medical Center recorded minor 33 sex change patients, including 22 surgery patients from 2019 to 2023, while Missouri’s St. Louis Children’s Hospital had 49 sex change patients during the same time frame.
Do No Harm performed its analysis with data from “commercial insurance providers, Medicaid, Medicare, and the Department of Veterans Affairs,” noting that the analysis excludes data from “internal Kaiser Permanente and internal Department of Veterans Affairs claims” and direct payments, indicating that the figures could undercount the number of sex change interventions performed on children and their associated costs.

American Hospitals Performed 14,000 Child Sex Changes From 2019-2023, Group Finds

Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital in Houston is the largest children&#8217;s hospital in the world. They treat more than four million patients under the age of 21 every year, most of them minors. And because of the hospital&#8217;s size and prestige, what happens at TCH doesn&#8217;t just affect those patients. What happens at TCH also influences how other major children&#8217;s hospitals all around the country conduct their operations.
That&#8217;s what makes the reporting out of Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital this year — most of it done by Chris Rufo — impossible to ignore. In the span of a little over a year, two whistleblowers have come forward to allege that TCH is systemically deceiving the public and potentially violating the law.
The first whistleblower, a general surgeon named Eithan Haim, provided records to Rufo which demonstrated that TCH had not, in fact, shut down its child sex-change program as promised. This was significant because the attorney general of Texas, Ken Paxton, had just released a legal opinion stating that child sex-change surgeries — as well as cross-sex hormone treatments — constitutes child abuse under Texas law. So TCH claimed that they shut the program down in order to avoid prosecution. As the hospital put it, they wanted to:
<blockquote>safeguard our health care professionals and impacted families from potential criminal legal ramification.</blockquote>
So they stood by the child sterilization, but they said they had no choice but to comply with the attorney general.
According to Rufo&#8217;s reporting, Haim provided redacted records proving that TCH then quietly restarted the program without informing the public. In effect, they didn&#8217;t really shut it down at all. Haim didn&#8217;t give Rufo any personally identifying information about any patients, and no personally identifiable information was ever released publicly. He provided only the information that was necessary to verify that TCH was continuing to perform procedures related to child sex-changes, in apparent defiance of the attorney general.
For example, the records reportedly demonstrated that TCH allowed a doctor to, “insert a non-biodegradable drug delivery implant” into an 11-year-old girl who identified as transgender. The records also indicated that several children between the ages of 11 and 15 received these implants, among many other procedures.
The Texas legislature clearly thought Haim&#8217;s revelations were worth acting on. The very next day after Rufo published his report on Haim&#8217;s claims, the Texas legislature voted — in bipartisan fashion — to ban so-called &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; for minors. So the attorney general&#8217;s legal opinion wasn&#8217;t just an opinion anymore. It was binding on hospitals like TCH.

On these facts, there&#8217;s no question that Eithan Haim is a whistleblower by any definition.
He chose to risk career — which was just beginning — to provide information that his employer might be systematically violating the law. And not just any law — but a law designed to protect children from being abused and permanently sterilized. On top of that, Haim&#8217;s evidence indicated that TCH might be lying to the public, which is a pretty big deal when you&#8217;re talking about a children&#8217;s hospital. If they&#8217;re willing to lie about castrating children, it might lead you to wonder what else they&#8217;re willing to lie about, and how deep the corruption goes. Haim&#8217;s disclosures directly led to a substantial change in Texas law, in record time, which means that by definition, they were highly relevant to the public interest. You cannot define &#8220;whistleblower&#8221; anymore clearly than this.
But Joe Biden and Kamala Harris&#8217; DOJ didn&#8217;t see it that way.
A month later, they sent federal agents to his door to inform him that he was under investigation for HIPAA violations.

So according to the DOJ, Eithan Haim wanted to cause &#8220;malicious harm&#8221; to the hospital. They&#8217;re not concerned about the permanent harm that this massive and well-funded hospital may be causing to children. Instead, the prosecutors are worried about the &#8220;harm&#8221; that the hospital might suffer when the public learns what it&#8217;s doing, in defiance of the attorney general and Texas law.
This is a hospital that, by the way, receives a lot of money and tax breaks from the government. We have every right to know what it&#8217;s doing. But apparently the hospital&#8217;s employees are not allowed to &#8220;harm&#8221; the hospital by informing the public about the procedures they&#8217;re performing.
You might remember that Democrats didn&#8217;t always treat whistleblowers this way. During the Trump administration, a CIA operative who was assigned to the White House leaked classified recordings of Trump to Adam Schiff. That led to the first impeachment trial. We weren&#8217;t even allowed to know the CIA operative&#8217;s name at any point during the proceedings. Corporate media outlets refused to tell us. Even in Congress, lawmakers were told it was off-limits to reveal his identity. John Roberts, who was presiding over the impeachment, enforced that rule. This was a &#8220;whistleblower&#8221; who wasn&#8217;t even alleging that Trump had violated any law. And yet, this CIA employee was treated with such reverence that, to this day, we&#8217;re not allowed to say his name in public.
But Eithan Haim — who actually displayed real bravery, and who disclosed relevant information about a children&#8217;s hospital — now faces up to a decade in prison if convicted. His life gets destroyed and his career is ended, all for telling the truth. And he&#8217;s not the only one.
This week, a nurse named Vanessa Sivadge revealed that she was recently fired by Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital. Her crime was alleging that TCH bills Medicaid to provide puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children, in violation of federal law. TCH immediately denied this allegation.
Then the Biden administration sent more federal agents to harass her at her home, because that&#8217;s what happens when you start saying inconvenient things about so-called &#8220;gender affirming care.&#8221; Watch:

The only reason these agents showed up to Sivadge&#8217;s home was to intimidate her. They weren&#8217;t there to arrest her. They weren&#8217;t there to inform her that she was the target of any investigation. The point was to imply that she&#8217;d better keep her mouth shut because the federal government was watching her.
In a letter to Rufo, Sivadge said she had attempted to transfer away from the endocrine unit as a last-ditch effort to avoid working in this area of so-called medicine, but the hospital refused her request:
<blockquote>This past Friday on August 16, TCH fired me effective immediately. This is unlawful for two reasons: it is retaliation for my coming forward with information on TCH’s egregious pattern of deception and Medicaid fraud, and this action also illegally disregarded my request to transfer due to my belief that these procedures provide irreversible harm and lifelong regret to children confused by their sex.</blockquote>
If it&#8217;s true that TCH is defrauding Medicaid, it wouldn&#8217;t be particularly surprising. Last year, I posted a Twitter thread looking to two of the largest so-called &#8220;trans healthcare&#8221; providers, known as Plume and Folx. And both of these providers indicated that they diagnose patients with &#8220;dysphoria,&#8221; even if they don&#8217;t really have it, in order to ensure that insurance pays out. In fact, Folx openly admitted doing this on their website. This is the kind of apparent fraud that can take place openly when your industry has the full backing of the Biden DOJ. When you know the government&#8217;s on your side, you can admit to fraud in public and no one does anything. It&#8217;s the people who point out the fraud who get harassed and even jailed.
What&#8217;s particularly troubling about the situation at TCH is that Vanessa Sivadge was clearly in a position to know if the hospital was defrauding Medicaid. She interacted with doctors who were ordering various procedures and medications, and she coordinated prescription refills all the time. She once taught a child how to inject sex-change hormones. It was her job, which she performed up until the moment she realized how immoral it was.
As Sivadge put it:
<blockquote>In the cardiac clinic, we were taking sick kids and making them better. In the transgender clinic, it was the opposite. We were harming these kids.</blockquote>
So there&#8217;s only two possibilities here. Either this nurse is, for some reason, lying about her own first-hand observations, knowing it would completely destroy her career and her life. Or, like Eithan Haim, she&#8217;s telling the truth. And right now the latter explanation seems a lot more believable.
In response to her termination, Sivadge <a href="https://x.com/V_Sivadge/status/1825580932385956052" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> just two words on social media: &#8220;Worth it.&#8221;
That&#8217;s the kind of response you&#8217;d expect from someone who knows that the Texas attorney general&#8217;s investigation is going to validate everything she said. It&#8217;s a rare example of bravery in an industry that&#8217;s sorely lacking it. And it&#8217;s exactly what it will take to end this insanity and stop the mutilation and sterilization of children. 
These two whistleblowers alone have had a major impact. What happens next at Texas Children&#8217;s Hospital could determine what happens not just to the millions of children in their care, but to all the other children&#8217;s hospitals that look to TCH for guidance.
What&#8217;s needed now is for more whistleblowers to come forward, to follow their conscience and to expose this fraudulent industry for what it is.

&#8220;Consensus&#8221; is a word you hear a lot these days. And when you hear it, there&#8217;s a good chance you&#8217;re being told to keep quiet about something. For example, you might notice that celebrities are flying an awful lot for people who claim to be concerned about climate change. And you might find it odd that politicians like Barack Obama are buying up giant seaside properties if they think the oceans are about to rise and wipe entire continents off the face of the Earth. And then you might notice that average temperatures in your area haven&#8217;t changed much in the past century.
These kinds of observations might lead you to question whether man-made climate change is really a big deal, or even if it&#8217;s happening at all. And in response, you&#8217;ll be told that your questions are irrelevant. They&#8217;re an affront to science, in fact, because a consensus has already been reached among experts.
One of the effects of this kind of &#8220;consensus&#8221; is that it signals to everyone else in the field — the &#8220;experts&#8221; — that they need to fall in line immediately. Even if they disagree with the consensus view, they understand that they need to keep quiet or else they&#8217;ll face professional consequences. So a declaration of a &#8220;consensus&#8221; can quickly become self-reinforcing. To outsiders, it appears that an entire field is united when really it&#8217;s not.
That&#8217;s been the case with so-called gender-affirming care, which is the established euphemism for the sterilization and butchery of men, women and children in order to affirm their misguided conception of their own identity. Again and again, we&#8217;ve heard that there&#8217;s a &#8220;consensus&#8221; among professional medical associations that these procedures are medically necessary. Everyone from the HHS Secretary to the ACLU and the DOJ have made that claim repeatedly, in state and federal courts as well as the media. And with a handful of exceptions — virtually all of them overseas — no major professional medical association has stepped up to correct the record on this.
This week, that trend finally came to an end.
It turns out that all journalists needed to do was ask some professional medical associations about their views on gender surgeries for adolescents, and the facade of &#8220;consensus&#8221; would come crashing down. That&#8217;s exactly what <a href="https://twitter.com/LeorSapir/status/1823491617157713970" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leor Sapir</a>, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, decided to do. He reached out to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, which represents more than 11,000 members — and 90% of the field of plastic surgery across the U.S. and Canada. This is obviously a field that&#8217;s also deeply involved in gender-related surgeries on both adults and minors. Sapir wanted to know what ASPS thought about so-called &#8220;gender affirming care&#8221; for minors.
Here&#8217;s what the society of plastic surgeons sent back.

ASPS currently understands that there is considerable uncertainty as to the long-term efficacy for the use of chest and genital surgical interventions for the treatment of adolescents with gender dysphoria, and the existing evidence base is viewed as low quality/low certainty.</blockquote>

In other words, there is, in fact, no consensus among major medical organizations about any form of so-called &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; for minors. That is a lie that&#8217;s been repeated by the Biden administration repeatedly, but it&#8217;s not true. And all it took to establish that it wasn&#8217;t true is for one fellow at the Manhattan Institute to ask the plastic surgeons&#8217; association about this. They apparently weren&#8217;t going to volunteer the information, but when asked, they&#8217;re willing to say in writing that they don&#8217;t endorse any of these alleged &#8220;treatments&#8221; for children. This is how flimsy the &#8220;consensus&#8221; on these gender experiments really is.
This admission from ASPS has massive ramifications for procedures that are underway right now in the United States. As City Journal notes, the WPATH standards — which pretty much all major hospitals follow — doesn&#8217;t specify any strict age minimum for gender surgeries. These are standards that the Biden administration has also defended in federal court. And these standards have been put into practice, apparently without the endorsement of a major medical association like ASPS.

An analysis by the Manhattan Institute, using data from a national insurance database from 2017 to 2023, found evidence that roughly 5,000 to 6,000 double-mastectomies have been performed in this country on girls under the age of 18 in the name of so-called &#8220;gender-affirming care.&#8221; At least 50 of these girls were apparently under the age of 13. That last part bears repeating — In dozens of cases, girls under the age of THIRTEEN have had their breasts removed in order to “affirm” their gender.
These are numbers that both medical associations and politicians routinely lie about. But they&#8217;re verifiable and if anything, they&#8217;re undercounting the actual numbers of these procedures. The insurance database doesn&#8217;t capture out-of-pocket procedures at all, for example. And in some cases, there&#8217;s reason to believe that hospitals are coding these procedures to suggest that they&#8217;re not related to gender dysphoria, even when they clearly are.
For instance, as the Manhattan Institute notes, there&#8217;s been a nearly seven-fold increase in the number of so-called &#8220;nonbinary mastectomies&#8221; that have been performed on minors from 2017 to 2023. These are mastectomies that are intended to make the patient look nonbinary, whatever that means. Actually, we know what it means. It means that these are girls having their bodies permanently surgically altered to look more masculine, even though the girls do not actually even identify as boys. They identify as some other category with no clear definition at all.
The number of these procedures went from 70 in 2017, all the way up to 470 last year. And City Journal <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/a-consensus-no-longer#:~:text=The%20number%20of%20procedures%20grew,argue%20amounts%20to%20insurance%20fraud." target="_blank" rel="noopener">found that</a>:
<blockquote>Plastic surgeons who perform these procedures leverage the existing billing code for breast reduction &#8230; a practice some might argue amounts to insurance fraud.</blockquote>
Based on this new revelation from ASPS, insurance fraud might be the least of these doctors&#8217; problems. These procedures could also potentially amount to massive jury verdicts and settlements for medical malpractice and even intentional fraud, which isn&#8217;t covered by most provider&#8217;s insurance policies. That&#8217;s because consensus is a critical concept in medicine. If a doctor treats a patient and ends up harming the patient, it&#8217;s very hard to sue him if he can demonstrate that he was following an established standard of care that everyone agrees on. But if the doctor goes rogue, and disregards the view of major medical associations like ASPS, then there&#8217;s potentially a lot more liability at play.
As malpractice lawyer Kevin Keller told City Journal, medical providers could potentially be looking at more than $10 million in liability for individual cases involving these gender procedures — money they&#8217;d likely have to pay out of pocket.
This is an existential threat to this entire fraudulent industry. And it&#8217;s a threat that&#8217;s becoming much more pronounced lately. For several months now, there have been other signs that the house of cards that is &#8220;gender affirming care&#8221; is about to come crashing down. There was the Cass report to the National Health Service in England, which found that there&#8217;s “no good evidence” justifying any common “interventions” concerning gender identity. Then there was the ruling in the Sixth Circuit upholding Tennessee&#8217;s ban on the castration of children, over the objections of the Biden administration and the ACLU. There were also the leaked WPATH files, which exposed internal communications in which WPATH officials admitted that they didn&#8217;t know what they were doing in many cases. And there was the declaration from the American College of Pediatricians, a relatively small group which called on all major medical organizations to: 
<blockquote>&#8230; stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex.</blockquote>
All of those developments have taken place this year. That&#8217;s how quickly the alleged &#8220;consensus&#8221; in this field of &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; has broken down, even as the number of people who might seek to access these procedures is increasing.
Gallup just found that nearly 8% of adults currently identify as &#8220;LGBTQ+,&#8221; which is a significant jump from 5.6% just four years ago. And as the Post Millennial reports, many of these new additions to the alphabet umbrella are young people.
<blockquote>For each generation, a person is about twice as likely to identify as LGBTQ as opposed to the generation before.</blockquote>
And of course, many of these young people — particularly the ones who identify as transgender — are highly likely to seek out hormones, surgery, puberty blockers, or some combination of the three.
This is a trend that&#8217;s only possible because of a manufactured, artificial consensus of alleged experts. It&#8217;s a social contagion that has depended on the silence of people who know better. With the statement this week from the plastic surgeons&#8217; association, as unlikely as it was, any pretense of a consensus is now gone completely. It has been demolished as if it never existed — because it didn’t. For the sake of the millions of young people who are still eager to join the gender cult, this entire industry needs to meet the same fate.

African Americans are critical of the medical community&#8217;s efforts to embrace “gender neutral” terms that promote transgender ideology, according to a new poll.
The results from the poll, which was conducted by Ingram Market Research on behalf of <a href="https://donoharmmedicine.org/">Do No Harm</a>, comes as a growing number of doctors embrace new language to reflect the core tenets of left-wing gender theory.
The poll found that black adults were overwhelmingly critical of the term “birthing person,” which has recently been adopted by practitioners who believe men can become women, and thus have children. Nearly 93 percent of black adults said that they prefer the term “mother” to “birthing person.” Among women, 91 percent said that they prefer the term mother, while 94.9 percent of men agreed.
Do No Harm senior fellow Benita Cotton-Orr commented on the polling results, telling The Daily Wire that prioritizing competence is the “only way to restore the trust” in the medical field. 
&#8220;Our polling proves that the ideologues pushing nonsensical identity politics in medicine are out of touch with the very people they claim to speak for. Black Americans are rejecting the push to redefine race and gender in medicine in furtherance of a progressive political agenda,” Cotton-Orr explained. “The data proves that, like patients of all backgrounds, minority patients want doctors that are highly-qualified and don&#8217;t indulge in identity politics. Prioritizing medical excellence for patients&#8217; individual needs is the only way to restore the trust that has been eroded.&#8221;
A full 63.5 percent of respondents said that they would be “much less likely” or “somewhat less likely” to trust medical professionals who replace the word “mother” with “birthing person” or “people with uteruses.”
Black adults were widely opposed to the term “chestfeeding&#8221; as an alternative to “breastfeeding.” Black adults preferred the term “breastfeeding” by a margin of 93.6 percent to 6.4 percent.
The poll of 500 black adults found that medical professionals do themselves no favors among the demographic when they introduce themselves with their pronouns.
“Some medical professionals have started introducing themselves with their pronouns, such as ‘she/her,’ ‘they/them,’ or ‘ze/zir,’ and having their pronouns listed on their nametags,” the poll explains. “Would you be more or less comfortable having medical professionals as your health care providers if they introduced themselves with their pronouns?”
Nearly half of respondents, 48.2 percent, say that the practice would make them “much less” or “somewhat less” comfortable, while another 33.7 percent say it would have no effect. Only 18.1 percent say that they would be “much more” or “somewhat more” comfortable.
