NewsNation host Chris Cuomo warned on Wednesday that some of the intra-party dynamics he&#8217;d seen among Democrats — both during and immediately following the government shutdown — had led him to believe he was witnessing the end of the Democratic Party.
Cuomo delivered the assessment — along with some of the evidence he&#8217;d weighed to get there — in a short monologue, saying that he believed the far Left was quickly taking over the reins of power and the moderates would soon be forced out entirely.

&#8220;I&#8217;m not impressed by the history of this being the longest government shutdown, it&#8217;s a regrettable history,&#8221; he began. &#8220;I think this is a historic moment for another reason: I think the Democratic Party, as we know it, is about to end. I think that this is the birth of the new Left.&#8221;
Cuomo went on to point out the comments that came from House members on the far Left as it became clear that enough Senate Democrats would vote with Republicans to end the shutdown, and suggested that when they were willing to call out members of their own party as &#8220;traitors,&#8221; the eventual split was inevitable.
&#8220;I think the reason that you see so many high-profile Democrats, especially in the House, accusing the Democratic senators for ending the shutdown of basically being traitors,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Did you hear AOC? She was literally accusing them of a conspiracy, and she said, &#8216;in exchange for nothing.&#8217; It&#8217;s really interesting to me. It makes so little sense on the merits that I have to believe it&#8217;s a ploy.&#8221;
Cuomo pointed out that it would essentially be a losing argument to claim they should have kept the shutdown going despite the increasing number of Americans suffering from its impact.
&#8220;That&#8217;s not an easy thing to want more of,&#8221; he added. &#8220;So was there some deal on the table that we don&#8217;t know about?&#8221;
If not, he argued, &#8220;What this really is, is a line in the sand for them. That we&#8217;re not with them anymore.&#8221;
Cuomo went on to argue that &#8220;capitulation&#8221; from the party in the majority — in this case, the Republicans — &#8220;has never happened&#8221; when it was the minority party keeping the government shut down and making demands.
&#8220;I get why you would want to believe that something could happen,&#8221; he added, tying in the Democratic socialists as he explained that the only logical conclusion was a fairly simple one: &#8220;They want to divide the party. They want maybe to blow up the party, get new leaders, and a new direction.&#8221;

There is a serious battle happening inside the Democratic Party, ranging from the radicals — led by people like Zohran Mamdani, AOC, and Bernie Sanders — to the more traditional liberals, who don&#8217;t seem to have any sort of systemic immunity, to the moderate Democrats who are increasingly feeling out of step with their own party. 
Meanwhile, President Trump just keeps trucking along. Yesterday, the president of the United States spent Veterans Day <a href="https://www.c-span.org/program/white-house-event/veterans-day-observance-ceremony/668831">speaking</a> about the value of our veterans, stating:
<blockquote>This morning, on these hallowed grounds where generations of American heroes rest in eternal glory, we gather to fulfill the sacred duty of every free man and woman. On Veterans Day, we honor those who have worn the uniform, who have borne the battle, who have stood to watch, whose ranks have formed the mighty wall of flesh and blood, bravery and devotion, that has defended our freedom for 250 years. Today, to every veteran — we love our veterans — we say the words too often left unsaid: “Thank you for your service.”</blockquote>
President Trump has a baseline level of patriotism that comes through in everything that he does. The man truly loves this country and obviously loves the American flag and the American military.
He continued by speaking about what we owe to the military — something the radical Democrats do not believe — saying:

They only had the chance to show up because the veterans had the courage to serve. They took care of those people. They took care of all the stars. We owe it all to the fierce and noble men and women of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and the United States Marines.</blockquote>
Contrast that with how Hasan Piker has been spending the last few days. He went to China, and while he was in China, he decided that he was <a href="https://x.com/DrewPavlou/status/1988137151666811252?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1988137151666811252%7Ctwgr%5Ef2722b4aaef4e9a3eebbeeca5a382b177a407c5a%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mediaite.com%2Fmedia%2Fnews%2Fhasan-piker-declares-i-dont-have-any-patriotism-for-america-while-streaming-from-tiananmen-square%2F">going to blather</a> about how America is terrible —  in a country that legitimately censors everything you do, kills its opposition, and runs them over with tanks. Hasan Piker was in Tiananmen Square, where protesters against the Chinese government were murdered.
“I don&#8217;t have any sort of patriotism in my heart for America, but just in general. &#8230; I care about people,” he declared.
If that is the choice that Americans are given, and if Democrats continue to embrace this sort of radicalism, they are in some real trouble.
Hasan Piker is, of course, fairly close with Zohran Mamdani, the new mayor-elect of New York. He attended his victory party in New York, where he was going around saying on camera that it was a tragedy that the Soviet Union had collapsed.

So, radicals are taking over the Democratic Party. There&#8217;s no question they are the ones with the momentum at this point, if the Democratic Party refuses to stand up and say no.
On Monday, there was a protest that turned into <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chaos-breaks-out-at-tpusa-event-as-leftist-agitators-harass-attendees">a small riot</a> outside a TPUSA event at the University of California, Berkeley. This sort of thing has become common; Antifa radicals and their allies show up at events such as the TPUSA event.
Are there enough normie Democrats to stop this radicalism from taking over the party? The problem for them is that they are perfectly willing to go along with this sort of thing.
The liberal mainstream Democratic Party wants to capture what they think is the jet fuel of the radicals. Thus, Gavin Newsom <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/11/11/gavin-newsom-shames-democrats-who-caved-in-shutdown-battle-pathetic-capitulation-and-a-betrayal/">raged</a> against the end of the shutdown. This isn&#8217;t a deal. It&#8217;s a surrender. Don&#8217;t bend the knee!”
That’s Gavin Newsom linking arms with the radicals in his own party. J.B. Pritzker, who, like Newsom, wants to run for president, also said that the government should remain closed. 
California Rep. Ro Khanna <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/11/12/ro-khanna-senate-democrats-shutdown-schumer/">says</a> the Democratic leadership is “out of touch.”
To understand what’s now happening inside the Democratic Party, look no further than the historical analogy found in the Russian Revolution. There were some soft socialists, the so-called Russian whites, led by a guy named Alexander Kerensky. They were trying to hold off the Reds, and started off in an unenviable position militarily, but ended up winning because eventually there wasn&#8217;t enough systemic immunity to stop them.
That&#8217;s where we are right now. The systemic immunity is gone.
We&#8217;ll see how long this current Democratic Party can last without splintering into pieces.

The Free Press has <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/inside-the-dsas-hostile-takeover">reviewed</a> internal Democratic Socialists of America documents that show the organization&#8217;s leaders view Mamdani as a tool in their agenda to abolish prisons and borders and ultimately end what they call the “barbaric order of capitalism.”
The Free Press continued:
<blockquote>The DSA, founded in 1982, is a political body dedicated to the doctrine of democratic socialism, which is a variety of socialism that simply specifies how it would like revolution to occur: peacefully, through the subversion of democracy. Mamdani, a dues-paying DSA member since 2017, is the tip of that spear. </blockquote>
The Left constantly screws around with the definitions of terms. Socialism, typically speaking, is government control of the market-based order, nationalization of resources, getting rid of the pricing system, etc.
There are touches of socialism in a capitalist economy. This is called a mixed system. The United States obviously has a mixed system. So do Denmark and Norway. Fully socialist countries include Cuba and North Korea. China is an economically fascist system that has maintained aspects of nationalization, but then allowed certain aspects of the private market to operate so they could actually have a workable pricing system.
When people say democratic socialism, sometimes they mean Norway and sometimes they mean the DSA, which is to say, communism achieved through democratic means. 
<blockquote>The DSA held its <a href="https://convention2025.dsausa.org/">annual convention</a> in August, with the theme “Rebirth and Beyond: Reflecting on a decade of DSA’s growth and preparing for a decade of party building.” There, delegates voted to adopt a resolution titled “Principles for Party-Building,” which stated that the purpose of the DSA is “to unite workers to win the battle for democracy and bring about socialism, not to seek a governing coalition with a perceived lesser evil under the current undemocratic political system.” The resolution stated that the goals go beyond the White House. “A socialist party in the United States,” the document said, “must be a part of the global political movement of the working class.” </blockquote>
These are communists. They have nothing to do with the traditional Democratic Party, and yet they have more and more power. They have made it a full-time job to infiltrate school boards and majorities all over the country.
And they&#8217;re not being stopped.

There&#8217;s going to be a whole new wave of DSA-inspired candidates all across America. State Rep. Ruwa Romman is running for Georgia governor in 2026. She, of course, has talked about how Israel is a fascist government, which is table stakes for the DSA. She canvassed for Mamdani. She&#8217;s mainly driven by radical Third Worldism that is deeply connected to antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment. Her bid is a long shot in that Democratic primary, but she is running.
Graham Platner is very likely to win the Senate nomination in Maine in 2026. He, too, is a radical in the mold of Zohran Mamdani. He&#8217;s taken some hits because he had a giant Nazi tattoo on his chest, which he then denied was a Nazi tattoo, and then covered it up with an even uglier tattoo. But he is a democratic socialist.
Kat Abughazaleh is a candidate for Illinois&#8217;s ninth congressional district in 2026. She has a lot of followers on TikTok. She, like Mamdani, is very social media-savvy. She was indicted by a federal grand jury recently for allegedly blocking vehicles outside an ICE facility. Although she&#8217;s not formally DSA, her platform basically mirrors DSA.
There’s Kshama Sawant, who’s running for Washington&#8217;s ninth congressional district in 2026, and is an open Marxist. There’s Abdul El-Sayed, running for U.S. Senate in Michigan in 2026.
These candidates are very much to the Left, and the Democratic Party seems to have very little systemic immunity to them.
And all it&#8217;s going to cost you if they win is all your money and all your freedom.

“You did it! You really finally did it, you maniacs! You blew it up, damn you!”
The Statue of Liberty is half-buried in the sand now, and Charlton Heston is yelling at it because of what New York City just decided to do.
By an overwhelming margin, New Yorkers handed over the financial center of planet Earth to a Marxist pro-jihadist named Zohran Mamdani, who has never held a real job.
It&#8217;s a bold strategy, Cotton. We&#8217;ll see how it works out for them.
Mamdani is not hiding the ball. He intends to implement major changes in America&#8217;s financial center, the financial center of planet Earth. He intends to make a new system that is going to destroy capitalism. 
Will he be able to accomplish that? There are some checks on him. 
Many of the promises he has made are like a third-grader running for school president who promises: “Free ice cream for everybody and no homework” was basically his campaign. If he said “affordability” over and over and over and then threw out a bunch of random things that he would never be able to do, he would be elected mayor.
It worked.
We now live in a political era characterized — on both sides — by people accurately diagnosing problems and then not proposing any real solutions while saying, “If you give me ultimate power, I will solve it for you.”
It never works.
Democrats are resistant to the idea that Mamdani is the future of the party. Hakeem Jeffries suggested that he was not the face of the party. But I&#8217;m old enough to remember when Democrats said AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib were not the face of the party.
And now they are.
It will be interesting to see how the Democratic Party treats him. Do they treat him as an outsider? Do they say that he&#8217;s “sort of quirky,” the way they treated Bill de Blasio, or do they embrace him and try to draft off of the energy that he obviously captured in the middle of this campaign?

One of the lies that is constantly told about socialist candidates like Mamdani is that they are the people who get blue-collar voters, that they excite blue-collar voters. But America and Europe are different; historically speaking, European blue-collar workers tend toward socialism, but that does not happen in America. In America, blue-collar workers have always been fond of capitalism because it is what provides their jobs. Even in the early union days of the United States, the unions were quite actively anti-communist in the United States in a way that they simply were not in Europe. That remains true today.
What drove Mamdani to victory were immigrants, extreme leftists, and college-educated young women. Some of the latter is because Mamdani, with the smarmy grin and the inability to bench-press 135 pounds, seems particularly non-threatening, as opposed to Andrew Cuomo, who was ousted from office over his inability to keep his hands off the asses of women.
If this is the future of the Democratic Party, go for it, guys. It&#8217;s playing with fire. New York City is playing with fire. Mamdani’s policy proposals are trash. If he implements any of them, the city is in serious trouble.
There are systemic checks and balances that prevent Mamdani from single-handedly destroying the city. If he wants to raise taxes, he has to go to the state level. And the state legislature is very unlikely to want to increase taxes again. He says that he wants to make all the buses free, and he&#8217;s going to pay for it. How&#8217;s he going to do any of this stuff?
He won&#8217;t be able to get any of that stuff done, and then he will rail against the system.
Mamdani will make the business climate disastrous. Crime will go up. His proposals are foolish in the extreme.
Typically when you win, you tend to quote the founding ideals of the country. Mamdani did not. His entire victory speech was about how America historically is trash and how all of the fundamental principles of America are trash, and how he&#8217;s here to change things on a radical, fundamental level.
He quoted Eugene Debs, a socialist candidate from the 1910s and Nehru, the socialist leader of the non-aligned India in the post-partition era. There was no Washington; there was no Jefferson; there was no Lincoln. He said there&#8217;s a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate for a city we can “afford.”
All of these plans are trash.
He says that there&#8217;s a “mandate for change.” There&#8217;s always a mandate for change. That&#8217;s what elections are.
I&#8217;m very much looking forward to never having to pay for a hotel again in New York. I&#8217;m just gonna ride the buses around. I&#8217;ll just get on and ride them for free. Why the hell not? As long as I don&#8217;t get stabbed in the face, which may very well happen in a city of New York governed by Zohran Mamdani, who thinks that the police are inhibitors of human freedom.
H.L. Mencken, the famous columnist from the early 20th century, once said that democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.

Minneapolis Democratic incumbent Mayor Jacob Frey successfully defended his office despite a challenge from his left in Democratic socialist Omar Fateh, the candidate some have compared to New York City&#8217;s Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
Minneapolis uses ranked-choice voting, and Frey was able to pull together majority support after the third round of tabulation. After the first round, he already had a clear lead over Fateh — 41.8% to 31.7%.

Throughout the campaign, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/meet-omar-fateh-the-radical-somali-american-democratic-socialist-running-for-minneapolis-mayor">the Somali-American</a> attempted to capitalize on the type of messaging that had made Mamdani resonate in New York City — but with more limited success.
Among other things, he promised on the campaign trail to make Minneapolis the &#8220;last line of defense&#8221; against President Donald Trump and a &#8220;safe haven&#8221; for everything from illegal immigrants and abortions to transgender hormones and surgeries.
Fateh took direct aim at Frey on his campaign website, saying, &#8220;With Donald Trump back in the Oval Office, the progress towards equity and justice that our communities have worked so hard to create is in jeopardy. Mayor Frey has said that our approach to fighting Trump is extreme — he’s wrong.&#8221;
The Democratic socialist also adopted similar policy positions to Mamdani&#8217;s on making things — housing in particular — more affordable, promising to implement a rent freeze if elected, and calling for additional expenditures on housing designated for &#8220;LGBTQ+ and BIPOC people,” because he said they were “some of the highest at risk for losing their housing, being over-criminalized by [Minneapolis police], and being harassed by their employer.&#8221;
Fateh was initially endorsed by the local Democratic Party in the Minneapolis mayoral race over Mayor Frey.
&#8220;This endorsement is a message that Minneapolis residents are done with broken promises, vetoes, and politics as usual. It’s a mandate to build a city that works for all of us,&#8221; Fateh said at the time.
But Frey argued that the endorsement was unlawful due to the process by which the group had voted, and that resulted in the Constitution, Bylaws &amp; Rules Committee of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party (DFL) withdrawing the endorsement later.

Moments after being declared the winner of the New York City mayoral race, Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani opened his victory speech with a nod to one of the most infamous radicals in American history.
Mamdani, 34, quoted Eugene Debs, a far-Left activist from the early 20th century who was stripped of his American citizenship after being convicted of sedition in 1918. Like Debs, Mamdani has embraced radical policies, including broad promises to provide a range of free services to New Yorkers. 
&#8220;I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity,” Mamdani quoted Debs as saying. 
Debs, who <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/bernie-sanders-documentary-eugene-debs/">supported</a> the violent communist revolution in Russia in 1917 and was deeply influenced by Karl Marx, had his citizenship restored by a joint resolution of Congress in the 1970s. From 1900 to 1920, Debs ran for president five times. He <a href="https://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/5725/#:~:text=Every%20human%20being%20is%20entitled,rule%20and%20working%2Dclass%20slavery.">described</a> capitalism as a &#8220;monstrous system&#8221; and said that his Socialist Party was defined by a &#8220;militant&#8221; spirit and &#8220;revolutionary&#8221; goals.
Mamdani, who has not been shy about his embrace of socialism, promised in his victory speech to freeze rents for more than two million New Yorkers, provide free, fast busing, and offer universal childcare. 
“For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands,” he said. “The future is in our hands. My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life. But let tonight be the final time I utter his name, as we turn the page on a politics that abandons the many and answers only to the few.”
Among Mamdani’s campaign <a href="https://www.zohranfornyc.com/platform">promises</a> are opening city-run grocery stores, &#8220;expanding and protecting gender-affirming care citywide,&#8221; raising the minimum wage to $30 an hour by 2030, and ‘Trump-proofing’ New York by resisting cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
&#8220;We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about,&#8221; he said Tuesday night.

Mamdani’s speech focused heavily on class warfare and identity politics. He said his election showed that the city was a place “where the more than one million Muslims know that they belong.  Not just in the five boroughs of the city, but in the halls of power. No more will New York be a city where you can traffic in Islamophobia and win an election.”
He also took aim at the “billionaire class,” which he has promised to raise taxes on to pay for his programs. 
“As has so often occurred, the billionaire class has sought to convince those making $30 an hour that their enemies are those earning $20 an hour,” he said. “ They want the people to fight amongst ourselves so that we remain distracted from the work of remaking a long, broken system. We refuse to let them dictate the rules of the game anymore. They can play by the same rules as the rest of us.”
Mamdani also took shots at President Donald Trump during the speech, referring to him as a “despot.”
“If we embrace this brave new course, rather than fleeing from it, we can respond to oligarchy and authoritarianism with the strength it fears, not the appeasement it craves,” he said. “After all, if anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump, how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him.”
Trump, who urged New Yorkers to back former New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo who ran as an independent, has suggested that he would slash funding to New York City if Mamdani were elected. 
“If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!” Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday.

It&#8217;s Election Day in New York City. The question on everyone&#8217;s mind is, will Zohran Mamdani, the pro-jihadist, pro-Marxist candidate for mayor of New York, be elected mayor of the world&#8217;s financial capital?
One of the questions I have to ask is this: If you are a Curtis Sliwa voter, what is the point of your vote?
Okay, we get it. You don&#8217;t like Cuomo, and you don&#8217;t like Mamdani either. Okay. Welcome to planet Earth, where most people don&#8217;t like either Cuomo or Mamdani. 
But I&#8217;m just wondering, what do you get by voting for Curtis Sliwa at this point? What precisely is the draw to vote for Curtis Sliwa?
Curtis is fine, don&#8217;t get me wrong. And if you&#8217;re in a rational city, maybe he might have an outside shot at being mayor of New York, but he doesn&#8217;t.
So what are you doing? If you take your vote and you put it in this little box, that is a vote effectively for Zohran Mamdani. Period. End of story.
A brand new Atlas Intel survey released on Monday showed Zohran Mamdani up 43.9% to 39.4% for Andrew Cuomo. In fact, the survey finds that Cuomo would beat Mamdani 49.7% to 44.1% in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in that poll.
Guys, don&#8217;t do this. Don&#8217;t do it. It is not worth whatever points you think you are scoring by not voting for Andrew Cuomo.
Listen, I don&#8217;t like Andrew Cuomo either. I think Andrew Cuomo was a terrible governor of New York. I don&#8217;t understand for the life of me why the mayoralty of New York came down to the guy who killed all the old people and grabbed ass and an outright Third-Worlder.
When I say Third-Worlder, I mean as a philosophy. Mamdani is a Third-Worldist, meaning he believes that all the poor places on earth are the fault of Western civilization. He believes that the only reason there are failing parts of planet Earth is because of colonialism, Western imperialism, and capitalism, and all that kind of nonsense.

So those are your two choices. But voting for Curtis Sliwa ain&#8217;t going to fix that. You know who has said this quite correctly? The President of the United States.
President Trump put out this statement on Truth Social last night:

Chaos is very likely to reign in New York City if Zohran Mamdani wins. According to the <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/11/03/us-news/nearly-a-million-new-yorkers-ready-to-flee-nyc-if-mamdani-becomes-mayor-poll/">New York Post</a>, a brand new poll from J.L. Partners found that about 9% of New Yorkers say they will definitely leave the city entirely if Mamdani is elected the 111th mayor.
That&#8217;s roughly 765,000 people. “Another 25% of New Yorkers — about 2.12 million — said they would ‘consider’ packing up and leaving. Among high earners, 7% of those making over $250,000 a year said they would definitely flee,” the Post reported.
Perhaps that&#8217;s wrong. Maybe that&#8217;s an overstatement. But a lot of people are going to leave. If you&#8217;re mobile, do you want to stick around while this guy wrecks the city?
That is the big question.
Vote for Andrew Cuomo. Yes, I don&#8217;t like Andrew Cuomo either. Yes, I think Andrew Cuomo is a schmuck. But you know who&#8217;s way more dangerous than a schmuck?
Zohran Mamdani.
So please, I&#8217;m asking you: Do not do this thing.

In 1979, Iran’s revolutionaries — an <a href="https://institute.global/insights/geopolitics-and-security/ideology-and-irans-revolution-how-1979-changed-world">alliance</a> of Marxists and Islamists — rose on promises of justice and equality. They <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2014/2/5/the-ayatollahs-unkept-promises">pledged</a> to give citizens free water, free electricity, and free housing. The slogans captured a nation’s imagination, uniting two ideologies that despised each other but shared the same illusion: that moral purity and government control could replace economic discipline. Within years, the illusion <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/30/world-news/islamic-republic-close-to-collapse-in-iran-civil-war-possible-report/">collapsed</a>. Inflation exploded, jobs vanished, and the regime they created silenced its own believers.
Half a century later, in a different world and under a different flag, the same rhetoric echoes in New York City.
Assemblyman <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/zohran-mamdani">Zohran Mamdani</a>, now running for mayor, calls for “people-powered politics” and promises “free” public services — fare-free buses, frozen rents, and new programs that would expand government dependency under the banner of compassion. It’s a playbook familiar to anyone who has studied <a href="https://diamond-democracy.stanford.edu/speaking/speeches/when-does-populism-become-threat-democracy">revolutionary populism</a>: identify inequality, moralize the problem, and promise paradise without explaining the cost.
Analysts <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/traffic_and_transit/2025/07/10/free-buses-could-slow-speeds-and-cost-more-">estimate</a> that making city buses free would erase about $700 million a year in fare revenue. Replacing that money would either require massive new taxes or more state debt. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) already <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/traffic_and_transit/2025/07/10/free-buses-could-slow-speeds-and-cost-more-">loses</a> roughly $1 billion annually to fare and toll evasion, including more than $500 million on buses alone. The Independent Budget Office <a href="https://comptroller.nyc.gov/reports/comments-on-new-york-citys-executive-budget-for-fiscal-year-2025-and-financial-plan-for-fiscal-years-2024-2028/#:~:text=With%20these%20adjustments%20based%20on,$13.00%20billion%20in%20FY%202028.">projects</a> multi-billion-dollar city deficits through 2028. To date, Mamdani has offered no serious proposal to offset the hundreds of millions in lost revenue.
That mindset is not new. In 1979, Iran’s revolutionaries <a href="https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/18468/#:~:text=In%201979%2C%20Ayatollah%20Khomeini%20gave%20his%20first,disappeared%20from%20the%20public%20archives%20in%20Iran.">said</a> oil revenues would pay for everything; in 2025, New York’s progressives say “the rich” will. The numbers never add up, but the slogans keep working because they appeal to emotion, not reason.

Adding to the picture, the Washington-based lobbying group <a href="https://www.meforum.org/mef-observer/how-the-iranian-regime-seeks-to-build-its-power-upon-american-naivete">NIAC</a>, often criticized for mirroring Tehran’s foreign-policy positions, recently <a href="https://x.com/NIACouncil/status/1982919590310011092">announced</a> its official endorsement of Mamdani. The symbolism is striking: the same organization that has long echoed and defended the Islamic Republic now throws its support behind a socialist-leaning candidate in America’s financial capital. The thread that connects them is ideological, a shared belief that moral virtue justifies economic fantasy.
This convergence of left-wing utopianism and moral absolutism should alarm anyone who cares about the survival of pragmatic politics. When ideology replaces arithmetic, cities fall into the same trap that ensnared nations. The faces and languages change, but the structure remains: emotional populism promising equality through control.
Iran’s tragedy began with chants about justice and dignity. Within a decade, the alliance between communists and clerics disintegrated, replaced by censorship, executions, and an economy under siege. The rhetoric of equality gave way to ration cards and ideological policing.
New York is obviously not Tehran. But when candidates promise unlimited benefits and moral purity while ignoring budgets, they are playing the same dangerous tune. No city, no matter how rich, can outspend reality. Populism always runs on borrowed time and borrowed money.
The warning isn’t about religion or class. It’s about patterns. In every era, radicals on the Left promise that compassion can be legislated and that economics will obey moral will. It never does. When leaders treat economics as politics and politics as faith, collapse follows.
In 1979, Iran’s revolutionaries told people to look up, and many claimed to see Ayatollah Khomeini’s face in the moon. The illusion was complete. New Yorkers shouldn’t make the same mistake on the skyline. Charisma is not competence, and utopia is never free.

One single poll stands out amid a virtual sea of data that all predict a landslide victory for New York City&#8217;s Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani — a self-described Democratic socialist — and suggests that perhaps he doesn&#8217;t have a complete lock on the Big Apple.
The <a href="https://atlasintel.org/poll/usa-nyc-2025-mayoral-election-11-03-2025">poll in question</a>, released on Monday by Atlas Intel, surveyed 2,404 likely voters in New York City between October 31 and November 2, and shows Mamdani with a rapidly dwindling lead of under five points — with less than 48 hours to go before polls close.
The major shift, according to the data, appears to be a rapid drop off in support for Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa (-8.6%) just since the previous poll covering October 25-30. In addition to the drop in support for Sliwa, the poll also showed a bump of 3.3% for Mamdani and a much larger bump (5.4%) for former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY).

But the poll did not stop there. Respondents were also asked how they might vote if the race were narrowed down to just Cuomo and Mamdani — and the results showed that while Mamdani had made slight gains, Cuomo still came out on top.

The demographic breakdown gave a clearer picture of what might ultimately come out of New York City&#8217;s election on Tuesday. Male voters preferred Mamdani 50.6% to 33%, while women preferred Cuomo 45.1% to 37.4%. Mamdani had the edge with voters aged 18-44, while voters over 45 preferred Cuomo.

When it came to partisanship, Democrats unsurprisingly said they&#8217;d support Mamdani 61.6% to 35% for Cuomo — and 2.5% for Sliwa. Among Republicans, 52.1% said they&#8217;d support Sliwa, 42% would support Cuomo, and 4.9% would support Mamdani. Among Independents, however, Cuomo led with 53.1% — and Sliwa (18.6%) and Mamdani (29.9%) lagged far behind.
