We&#8217;re not supposed to say anything but good about people who&#8217;ve just died. As the saying goes, speak no ill of the dead.
This man, however, left a wake of death, destruction, and catastrophe wherever he went. And most people don&#8217;t even know his name: Paul Ehrlich.

The headline and sub-headline reads:

Here we go. Big lie. 
His predictions “proved premature.” What were his predictions? His prediction was that if the population grew any more, we would have widespread famine, because the Earth could not sustain all those people.

His prescriptions, therefore, were to stop having kids and sterilize people. We should use the government to reduce the population. These policies of his led to the one-child policy in China and forced sterilizations in India. This guy is — not single-handedly, but pretty close — responsible for the population crisis (or depopulation) that we face today.
And they say his predictions &#8220;proved premature.&#8221; 
Since he made his prediction that we would inevitably face mass starvation because the population was growing too much, since that time, the world population has doubled and global malnutrition has been cut dramatically. Today there are twice as many people as when he made his prediction, and we are more well-fed than ever.
It&#8217;s not that his predictions proved premature. They were completely wrong. Totally wrong. 
The New York Times is covering for Ehrlich in its obituary of him. Ehrlich did more evil than almost anybody in the 20th century. And the consequences of his stupid predictions and prescriptions — because he prescribed policy to governments — were mass evil.
The consequences of his ideas led to mass death, sterilization, the violation of basic rights, and he never let up on it.

In the interview, Ehrlich says,
<blockquote>The first thing the government should do is try and take the pressure off to reproduce &#8230; Young couples — if they don&#8217;t have children — people say, &#8216;gee, they must be sterile.&#8217; They never say, &#8216;gee, maybe they like good wine and going to the theater and so on, they prefer that to scraping diapers.&#8217; So there&#8217;s pressure to have children. So the first thing that should happen is that the president ought to say, &#8216;From here on out, no intelligent, patriotic American family ought to have more than two children, preferably one, if you&#8217;re starting a family now.&#8217; He ought to make the FCC see to it that large families are always treated in a negative light wherever they appear &#8230;  you can move to giving women bonuses for not having babies, that almost certainly would do the job. 
If that didn&#8217;t have the effect, then you could move to changing the tax structure so that people who had the money and had the children paid more for them — in other words, increase taxes on people with children rather than decrease them, since when they have the children they require more services. 
If that doesn&#8217;t work, then you&#8217;ll have the government legislating the size of the family. And people say, &#8216;Oh that&#8217;s impossible, government can never intrude and tell you how many children to have.&#8217; Well, I got news — you know it intruded a long time ago and told you how many wives you can have and there&#8217;s not the slightest question that if we don&#8217;t get the population under control with voluntary means that in the not-too-distant-future, the government will simply tell you how many children you can have and throw you in jail if you have too many.</blockquote>
So God tells us in the book of Genesis to &#8220;Be fruitful and multiply.&#8221; 
This Antichrist figure comes out in the 1970s and says, &#8220;Do not have children. It&#8217;s unpatriotic to have children.&#8221;
It&#8217;s funny because patriotism comes from the word &#8220;Pater,&#8221; meaning father — it&#8217;s an extension of filial piety, it&#8217;s an extension of the family — and he&#8217;s saying the pro-family thing to do is to destroy your family.
He says, first we&#8217;re going to incentivize people — we&#8217;re going to discourage them culturally. Say having kids is bad, you should just drink good wine instead. 
All these arguments you hear today — Don’t you want to travel? Don’t you want to have experiences? Don’t have kids.
And if that doesn&#8217;t work, we&#8217;re going to pay people not to have kids. Give women bonuses. Subsidize it. Say instead of having kids, go work at the widget factory, do spreadsheets, we’ll give you money.
That doesn&#8217;t work? Okay, now we punish you. Forget the carrot, now it&#8217;s the stick. If you have kids, we&#8217;re going to tax you. We&#8217;re going to make you pay for the privilege.
And if that doesn&#8217;t work, we&#8217;re just going to stop you from having kids.
What does that mean in practice? Because China implemented this. It means forced abortion. The government comes in and kills your child. You want to keep your child? No. Government kills your child.
It leads to policies like in India, where people were told you can only get access to food and resources if you sterilize yourself.
That happened because of this guy. Because of his book. Because of his ideas.
He said in &#8220;The Population Bomb&#8221;: 

<blockquote>The battle to feed all of humanity is over… hundreds of millions of people will starve to death… nothing can prevent a substantial increase in the world death rate.</blockquote>
Totally wrong. Could not have been more wrong.
He said we must have population control — hopefully through voluntary means, but by compulsion if necessary. That was his thesis.
He described population growth as a &#8220;cancer.&#8221; Population growth just means more people. So if more people are a cancer, then people are the disease.
Human beings are a disease.
The left has held on to that view for a very, very long time. And this is where the truly wicked origins of leftism — which endeavors to invert reality — began, during the French Revolution as an assault on the Church. This is where the real satanic, Luciferian character of liberalism really begins to show itself. One of the fruits of liberalism is the view that human beings are a disease that must be cured, that must be eradicated from the earth. 
And now this guy is eradicated from the earth. And it&#8217;s sad, because every man&#8217;s death diminishes me because I&#8217;m a human. 
As John Donne wrote in his famous poem, &#8220;No Man is an Island&#8221;:

if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe 
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as 
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine

We should pray for him, because he led a very, very evil life. And in many ways, maybe he didn’t fully understand what he was doing. “Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
But we can’t just think about him — we have to think about the institutions.
This guy got everything wrong. Not a little wrong — perfectly wrong. And he never paid a price for it. He kept his positions, his prestige, his influence. His policies were implemented. They led to enormous harm. And the institutions backed him up.
And now one of the chief cultural institutions, The New York Times, is still covering for him — still saying his ideas were just “premature.”
Not premature. Wrong.
And as a final note, that idea — “forgive them, for they know not what they do” — this connects to something else.
The world feel tense right now. The stakes feel higher. There’s conflict in Iran, division at home, a lot of strain in the culture. For Christians, this is Lent. And if you’ve paid attention over the years, this season often feels like that — more tension, more conflict, more difficulty. In the story, this is the period in the desert, the temptation, the struggle.
And then comes Easter.
I’m not saying everything magically gets better overnight. But if you believe in spiritual realities, that there is a meaning to history, a rhythm to the liturgical calendar, then it’s not surprising that things feel strained right now.
Sometimes things look like they’re falling apart — like when Christ was crucified on Calvary — right before they come back together.
That’s the pattern.

The family of a beloved teacher killed during a high school prank gone wrong is speaking out, saying they want to see charges against the teens dropped following the tragic accident.
Jason Hughes, 40, was a math teacher at North Hall High School in Georgia. He died last Friday night after accidentally being run over by a teen driver who was there with other students putting toilet paper in his trees. Hughes slipped near the car and was then accidentally hit by the vehicle, according to <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/family-georgia-teacher-killed-prank-gone-wrong-want-charges-teens-drop-rcna262482">NBC News</a>. 
The teen driver was accompanied by four other students in two separate cars. The teens immediately stopped and tried to administer first aid, but Hughes, who is a father of two, succumbed to his injuries.
The family <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/08/us/georgia-teacher-killed-prank.html">told</a> The New York Times in a statement that they don’t wish to ruin the students’ lives for what amounts to a tragic mistake. 
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our family is determined to prevent a separate tragedy from occurring, ruining the lives of these students,&#8221; they said in the statement. “This would be counter to Jason’s lifelong dedication of investing in the lives of these children.&#8221;
Hughes&#8217; family <a href="https://abcnews.com/video/130894885/">told</a> ABC News that he knew about the prank and was excited about it, which is why he went outside to see the teens. 
“The family wants to make clear that they knew these kids and they loved them and these kids loved the Hugheses. This was not a malicious act,” they told the outlet in a statement. 
“We are thankful for the outpouring of prayers and support as we grieve the loss of Jason. We ask that you continue to pray for our family and also for the students involved in the accident along with their families. Please join us in extending grace and mercy to them as Christ has done for us.” 
The 18-year-old driver was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering, NBC reported. The other four teens involved were each charged with criminal trespass and littering.
District Attorney Lee Darragh said of dropping the charges, &#8220;It is much too early in this process. I’ll not be commenting until the closure of the case.&#8221;
A <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-jason-hughes-support-his-family-4zzkn">GoFundMe</a> for the Hughes family has raised over $400,000 as of Tuesday morning. 
“Jason’s life was a blessing to so many, and his untimely passing will be indescribably difficult for his wife and two young boys for years to come. Please use this opportunity to come alongside them in their time of immediate need and future planning for his children,” the description said.

Legendary Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz has died at the age of 89, the university <a href="https://news.nd.edu/news/legendary-national-championship-coach-lou-holtz-passes-away/">announced</a> on Wednesday.
A cause of death was not immediately stated.
Holtz was considered one of the most influential coaches in college football history, winning 249 games as a collegiate head coach. He began his coaching career at William &amp; Mary in 1969 and spent one season in the NFL before returning to college football.
One hundred of those wins happened at Notre Dame, where he served as head coach from 1986 until 1996.
“Notre Dame mourns the loss of Lou Holtz, a legendary football coach, a beloved member of the Notre Dame family and devoted husband, father and grandfather,” University of Notre Dame President Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C. said in a statement published on their website.
“Among his many accomplishments, we will remember him above all as a teacher, leader and mentor who brought out the very best in his players, on and off the field, earning their respect and admiration for a lifetime. In the years since leaving the head football coach position, Lou, together with his beloved wife, Beth, supported Notre Dame in innumerable ways, among them making possible the refurbishment of four residence hall chapels and the construction of the Beth and Lou Holtz Grand Reading Room on the first floor of Hesburgh Library — tangible signs of their great love for their Catholic faith and the mission of Our Lady’s University.”
The statement went on, “Whenever Notre Dame called to ask for his help, Lou answered with his characteristic generosity, and he will be sorely missed. The prayers of the entire Notre Dame community are with his family and many friends in this time of sorrow. May he rest in the peace and love of Christ.”
Holtz called coaching for Notre Dame “the dream of a lifetime.” 
&#8220;I remember at school that we would pray every Friday before a game for Notre Dame&#8217;s success,” he said, per <a href="https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/48103098/legendary-football-coach-commentator-lou-holtz-dies-89">ESPN</a>. “So, it&#8217;s just part of our religion. It&#8217;s a part of the way we are, and the football team should reflect the values of Notre Dame. That means we had to play with great enthusiasm, we had to play together. We had to play with great character, great integrity, but we also should be playing for our lady on the Dome.&#8221;
After retiring from coaching, Holtz worked in television, including spending more than a decade with ESPN.
The coach was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008, the university website noted, and was the man behind several honored Notre Dame football traditions including the “Play Like A Champion” sign in the locker room.
Holtz was also a close friend and longtime supporter of Donald Trump. The president honored Holtz with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in December of 2020 for his contributions to the nation. 
Holtz is survived by his four children, Luanne, Lou “Skip” Junior, Kevin and Elizabeth. The latter three graduated from the University of Notre Dame.

Captain Rick Shelford, star of the popular Discovery Channel reality series “Deadliest Catch,” revealed on Monday that his 25-year-old deckhand, Todd Meadows, died in a fishing accident.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed Meadows&#8217; death in statement on Tuesday, saying that Meadows fell overboard about 170 miles north of the Dutch Harbor, off Alaska&#8217;s Aleutian Islands.
&#8220;He was recovered unresponsive by the crew approximately ten minutes later,&#8221; the spokesperson said, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/deckhand-deadliest-catch-boat-dies-fishing-alaskan-waters-rcna261372">per</a> NBC News. &#8220;First aid and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful, and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbor.&#8221;
“February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea,” Shelford said in a Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/captainrick.shelford/posts/898155459760463">post</a>, which included photos of Meadows. “We lost our brother, Todd Meadows. Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
“Deadliest Catch” premiered in 2005 and remains a popular series for the network. It follows crab fishermen working in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons, documenting the dangers of the job along the way. 
Alaskan crab fishing is considered to be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.
“Todd’s love for his children, his family, and his life was evident in everything he did. He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him,” the post went on. “Right now, our hearts are broken in a way that words can’t fully express. We ask that you lift Todd’s children and family in prayer and keep them in your thoughts as they face the days ahead without him. Todd will forever be part of this boat, this crew, and this brotherhood. Though we lost him far too soon, his legacy will live on through his children and in every memory we carry of him. Rest easy brother, till we meet again.”
A GoFundMe campaign was set up for Meadows’ family. The description mentioned that the deckhand was fishing at the time of his death. “We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Todd Morgan Meadows, a beloved 25-year-old father, son, brother and friend, who left us far too soon while doing what he loved — crabbing out on Alaskan waters,” the GoFundMe page read.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows,&#8221; a <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/deckhand-deadliest-catch-boat-dies-fishing-alaskan-waters-rcna261372">statement</a> from Discovery said, per NBC. &#8220;This is a devastating loss, and our hearts are with his loved ones, his crewmates, and the entire fishing community during this incredibly difficult time.”

Robert Cosby Jr., who is the son of &#8220;The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City&#8221; star Mary Cosby, has died at the age of 23.
TMZ broke the <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/25/robert-cosby-jr-dead/">news</a> on Wednesday that Cosby Jr. died on Monday, but did not immediately reveal his cause of death. His parents, Mary and Robert Cosby Sr., told the outlet in a statement: &#8220;Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.&#8221;
The outlet noted that police responded to a possible overdose, but so far, that information is unconfirmed.
Cosby Jr. was seen on the popular reality show and discussed his substance abuse issues there, per <a href="https://deadline.com/2026/02/robert-cosby-jr-dead-real-housewives-of-salt-lake-city-mary-cosby-son-1236736063/">Deadline</a>. In a Season 5 episode, the reality star said he used Xanax, Adderall, acid, “Molly,” and cocaine. He also confessed to his mother that he had thoughts of suicide and self-harm in the past.
“You’re the only reason I didn’t kill myself,” he told his mom in one episode. His mother replied, “You have to know I love you more than anything, more than anything in this world. I think I love you more than dad — don’t ever tell [him] I said that. But you’re my friend, you’re my son, you’re my gift. God gave you to me. You’re the only thing that ever made me happy. Before I had you, I was never happy. You came, and you were so real. You [were] everything I hoped [for] in a person.”
Cosby Jr.’s wife, Alexiana Smokoff, filed for divorce in November 2025 following accusations of domestic violence and a restraining order. These all stemmed multiple domestic incidents, including one at Smokoff’s parents&#8217; house, leading to more than a dozen charges being filed against Cosby Jr., several of which he pleaded guilty to. The divorce was finalized earlier this year. 
&#8220;Real Housewives&#8221; executive producer Andy Cohen responded to Cosby Jr.&#8217;s death on Threads, writing, “Devastatingly sad news out of SLC. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. My heart is broken for Mary, and I am sending all my love to her and Robert Sr.”

An illegal immigrant whom the Biden administration did not deport after he served just three years in prison after killing an 8-year-old boy is now in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, The Daily Wire has learned.
In 2019, Karmjit Singh was driving drunk in his BMW sports car when he hit another vehicle at more than 100 miles per hour, then tried to flee the scene. The crash killed Maverick Martzen, an 8-year-old star baseball player, and severely injured his parents, Scott and Megan.
“I thought it was 25 years to life, easy case. He killed an 8-year-old,” Scott Martzen said. But Singh — an Indian national who had overstayed his visa and already had a separate felony DUI conviction — served just three years in prison.
The term didn’t teach him his lesson: After he was released, he got <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-who-killed-kid-driving-drunk-was-arrested-for-two-additional-duis-in-california">two more DUIs</a>.
In June 2023, he was arrested for driving drunk at 2 a.m. and giving police his brother Parminder’s driver&#8217;s license. Police ascertained his real identity and that his license was suspended for manslaughter, but released him anyway. In November 2023, the same thing happened.
He went back to prison for another short term, and on January 30, he was released by California, Scott Martzen told The Daily Wire.
“Despite an ICE hold, he has once again been released on parole,” he said. Martzen did not receive any notification from authorities, but noticed on the California prison system&#8217;s website that Singh had been released on parole, and believed he was free again.
&#8220;Second chance. Third chance. Fourth chance. Fifth chance. Our son never got one more day,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire.
ICE did not return a request for comment earlier this month, but a search of ICE&#8217;s detainee database using Singh&#8217;s name and birthday shows that he is now being held at the California City Corrections Center, a former jail that was reopened in 2026 as a massive ICE holding facility, part of the numerous warehouses that the agency is opening across the country.
That center is the largest immigration facility in California and can hold up to 2,500 people.
“Every birthday, every holiday, every baseball season, we live with the reality that Maverick is gone,&#8221; Scott Martzen told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Our younger son is growing up without his big brother because one man chose to drink and drive, and a system keeps giving him chance after chance.&#8221;
The grieving father previously told The Daily Wire that Maverick would &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-killed-a-child-in-2019-the-serial-drunk-driver-was-already-released-from-prison">100%</a>&#8221; be alive today if the government had deported Singh after his first felony conviction in 2016. He said the country is “not at all” better for having Singh here, in contrast to the promise shown by Maverick, a gifted athlete, advanced student, and godly son, he said.
“What does it take” to be deported, he asked in 2024. “He killed a kid, he’s got an expired visa, no drivers license, two DUIs, a third that should have been a DUI but was lowered, and he’s still able to live here … it’s beyond frustrating.”
To honor the gifted athlete, who was the first draft pick for a baseball team of 12-year-olds when he was 8, the family started a nonprofit called M30 to help child athletes. Actor Robert Carradine, best known for his roles in “Revenge of the Nerds” (1984) and the popular Disney series “Lizzie McGuire” (2001-2004), has died in Los Angeles at 71.
His family shared that he died following a “valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder.” His daughter Ever confirmed that Robert died by suicide, as the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/24/obituaries/robert-carradine-dead.html">reported</a>.
Carradine was born in 1954 in Los Angeles to the famed Carradine family. His father John and was an actor, along with his brother David Carradine of &#8220;Kung Fu&#8221; and &#8220;Kill Bill.&#8221; His other brother Christopher was a Disney Imagineer, per <a href="https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/robert-carradine-dead-revenge-of-the-nerds-lizzie-mcguire-1236670975/v">Variety</a>. Carradine began to be recognized after appearing in the 1972 western “The Cowboys” alongside John Wayne.
Carradine got major props for his role in the Oscar-winning Vietnam War drama “Coming Home” (1978) alongside Jane Fonda and Jon Voight. He also appeared in other Hollywood projects, including “The Big Red One” (1980), “The Long Riders” (1980), “Body Bags” (1993), “Escape from L.A.” (1996), and “Django Unchained” (2012).
His brother Keith Carradine said in a statement that mental health struggles are nothing to be ashamed of. 
“We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it,” he said, per <a href="https://deadline.com/2026/02/robert-carradine-dead-age-71-1236734055/">Deadline</a>. “It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day. We will take solace in how funny he could be, how wise and utterly accepting and tolerant he was. That’s who my baby brother was.” 
The Hollywood star was also remembered by actress Hilary Duff, who played his daughter in &#8220;Lizzie McGuire.&#8221; 
“This one hurts,” she shared on Instagram Monday night. “It’s really hard to face this reality about an old friend. There was so much warmth in the McGuire family and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I’ll be forever grateful for that. I’m deeply sad to learn Bobby was suffering. My heart aches for him, his family and everyone who loved him.”
Jake Thomas, who played Carradine’s son in “Lizzie McGuire,” also paid tribute to his late co-star with an Instagram post. 
“My heart hurts today,” the actor wrote. “I was fortunate to know Bobby for most of my life. And he was one of the coolest guys you could ever meet. Funny, pragmatic, sometimes cranky, always a little eccentric. He was a talented actor, musician and director. But more than anything, he was family. I have many fond memories of being with him and his family throughout my life. Good moments, challenging moments and lots of laughs in between.”
“I looked up to him growing up. And later, I came to realize he thought I was pretty neat, too. So I guess I was doing something right,” he concluded.

Actor Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, has died at the age of 42, her family announced on Tuesday. 
&#8220;It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,&#8221; Katherine’s family said in a <a href="https://people.com/martin-short-daughter-katherine-dead-at-42-11913565">statement</a> to People.
Short has been a staple of Hollywood for decades, beginning with roles in sketch comedy, including “Second City Television” and “Saturday Night Live.” The Emmy Award winner, who is Canadian, is well known for his role as Franck Eggelhoffer in “Father of the Bride” (1991) and its sequel.
The actor has co-starred in the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders in the Building” alongside Steve Martin and Selena Gomez since 2021, a role that earned him an Emmy nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, a Critics&#8217; Choice Television Award, and a SAG Award.
Katherine was adopted by Martin and his late wife of 30 years, Nancy Dolman. Nancy died from ovarian cancer in 2010, as People noted. The couple also shared two other adopted children.
Short’s daughter stayed mostly out of the public eye and was not involved with acting at all. Katherine was a licensed social worker at UCLA&#8217;s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital for several years and worked part-time at a clinic doing community outreach. She appeared with her father at several events over the years. 
Per <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2026/02/24/martin-short-daughter-katherine-dead/">TMZ</a>, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call from a Hollywood Hills home at 6:41 p.m. on Monday for a possible suicide. The outlet noted that Katherine reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Short recently posted a tribute to his colleague, Catherine O’Hara, who died from a pulmonary embolism caused by cancer last month. 
“Catherine O’Hara, I met when she was 18 years of age, and all these years later, she has been the greatest, most brilliant, kindest, sweetest angel that any of us worked with,” Short said during his “The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short” comedy show last month. “So God bless Catherine.” 
Short and Martin are scheduled to perform at their comedy show for two performances this weekend, and no information on postponements was available as of Tuesday.

One of the most common talking points you hear from the Left — and you’re going to hear it a lot heading into the midterms — is that America has terrible health care. We’re told that every civilized country in the world has universal, socialized medicine, and that we’re backward, retrograde, clinging to some barbaric capitalist system while enlightened Europeans enjoy cradle-to-grave care.
You hear it constantly: America is a disgrace. We need socialized medicine.
Now, before we go any further, let’s acknowledge something the Left rarely does: we already have a substantial amount of socialized medicine in this country. We have it for illegal aliens. We have it for the very poor. We have it for the elderly through Medicare. We have a massive social safety net.
But here’s the part they leave out: the only reason any of that works at all is because it’s sitting on top of a heavily capitalist health care system that funds the entire apparatus. The “free” part only functions because something productive underneath it is paying the bills.
Still, we’re told we should scrap the whole thing and go full European.
How about we take a little look at some of the socialist health care systems around the world? Let&#8217;s start with Europe.

A horrifying story recently came out of the United Kingdom. According to <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15582277/Woman-dead-floor-home-told-wait-ten-days-ambulance.html?ns_mchannel=rss&amp;ns_campaign=1490&amp;ito=social-twitter_mailonline">The Daily Mail</a>, a 97-year-old woman, Babette Burge, was found nearly dead on the floor of her home after being told she would have to wait ten days — ten days — for an ambulance. Not ten days for surgery. Ten days just to be transported to a hospital.
<blockquote>Just five days earlier, a paramedic from a local GP surgery had attended Ms Burge&#8217;s home to assess her condition and found that her leg was &#8216;shortened and rotated&#8217; &#8211; a sign of a fractured hip.</blockquote>
She was nearly 100 years old, lying on the floor with a broken hip, and was told she’d need to wait ten days for an ambulance.
She was later discovered barely breathing. Then she died.
This is what we’re supposed to envy? “Everybody gets health care” in the UK — assuming you can get to the hospital. The catch is that no one comes to get you. Universal coverage is lovely in theory. In practice, however, if you can’t secure transportation, it doesn’t matter how free the surgery is.
Meanwhile, in Canada, a prominent Canadian writer — very much on the Left, by her own description — recently admitted something chilling. She said she was offered medical assistance in dying (MAID) instead of care.

That’s not compassion. That’s coercion.
And this isn’t an isolated anecdote. Canada has dramatically expanded medical assistance in dying, or MAID. In parts of Europe — particularly in countries like the Netherlands — similar policies are spreading. Elderly people, disabled people, chronically ill people, and even young people struggling with “seasonal depression” are increasingly being told that death is a “treatment option.”
Think about that.
In a system where the government is paying the bills, patients are not just patients — they’re line items. They’re costs. And when waitlists grow long and budgets grow tight, the incentives get dark very quickly. The cheapest patient is the one who isn’t there anymore.
On the one hand, American leftists insist we’re the only country in the civilized world without socialized medicine. On the other hand, you look at some of these “civilized” systems and see 97-year-olds waiting ten days for an ambulance and disabled citizens being nudged toward suicide because their care is expensive.
That’s not health care. That’s the opposite of health care.
Now, is the American system perfect? Of course not. It’s expensive. It’s complicated. It’s frustrating. But it is also the system that produces the vast majority of the world’s pharmaceutical innovation. It is the system that subsidizes global research and development. It is the system that people from all over the world come to when they need cutting-edge treatment.
It is not, however, a system where the government routinely suggests that you kill yourself because you’re inconvenient. There’s a reason that countries with fully socialized medicine struggle with wait times and rationing.
So before we swallow the talking point that America is uniquely cruel because we don’t have cradle-to-grave government medicine, it’s worth looking at what that actually looks like in practice. A nearly 100-year-old woman dying on the floor because no ambulance is available. A disabled Canadian writer being offered euthanasia in lieu of care.
Beware the supposedly greener grass on the other side of the fence. Especially when that fence is our northern border, separating us from the snow Mexicans.

Actor Eric Dane, best known for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” has died at the age of 53, just one year after announcing his ALS diagnosis.
The star’s family confirmed his passing with a <a href="https://people.com/eric-dane-dead-greys-anatomy-star-was-53-11717334">statement</a> shared with People. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,&#8221; it said. &#8220;He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.&#8221;
&#8220;Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Dane, who was born in San Francisco, started acting on a whim and loved it. He got his start with guest roles on popular shows including “Saved by the Bell,” “The Wonder Years,” “Roseanne,” “Married With Children,” and “Silk Stalkings” before becoming a household name playing Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed “McSteamy,” on &#8220;Grey&#8217;s Anatomy&#8221; beginning in 2006. He also had a major role in “Euphoria.”
The actor was married to actress Rebecca Gayheart since 2004 and the pair had two children together. Gayheart had previously filed for divorce in 2018, but called it off in 2025, saying she and Dane were still “best of friends,” as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/euphoria-greys-anatomy-actor-diagnosed-with-als">reported</a>.
ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to loss of muscle control. Over time, individuals with ALS may lose the ability to speak, move, eat, and breathe independently.
ALS has no cure, and people who receive this diagnosis usually only live three to five years after symptoms start.

When James Van Der Beek died this week at the age of 48, most mainstream headlines focused on how he was the face of the teen drama “Dawson&#8217;s Creek” in the late 1990s. That’s certainly true. But in the end, what mattered most to the most iconic teen heartthrob happened long after that show aired its finale in 2003.
In 2020, Van Der Beek rejected Hollywood life and did something radical, taking his wife Kimberly and their children and trading Los Angeles for a ranch outside Austin, Texas. At the time, he said it was for the good of his family, not for the applause.
Just after moving to his 36-acre property, the actor told Today Parents: “We were living on this tiny little lot with a tiny backyard. He [then 8-year-old son Joshua] seemed to be like an animal in a cage that was too small.”
A few years later they weren’t missing the fame and glamour. They were enjoying a simpler life.
“We love it. We have a lot more space,” Van Der Beek told Fox News Digital in 2022, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/james-van-der-beek-reflects-on-moving-to-texas-says-return-to-hollywood-would-have-to-fit-around-his-family">reported</a>. “We all need a more immediate connection to nature. It’s been a really, really great move and the kids are really happy.”
“The parks have been amazing,” he continued. “We’ve been going to state parks and the national parks. It’s just one of the benefits of getting out of the big city was getting to a place where we could just have more space right outside our door. It’s a very, it’s a very different life.”
“We watch the sunset,” the actor explained. “We know what phase the moon is in. We can actually see stars, which is a new thing.”
Van Der Beek isn’t the only Hollywood celebrity to leave the bright lights of the city behind. But he is someone who wholeheartedly embraced his new reality and dedicated his life to fatherhood. The actor didn’t brag constantly or post for the likes. Instead, the “Varsity Blues” alum appeared to gain a new appreciation for life. 
Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023 and shared it with fans one year later. He was optimistic about fighting it, but still took time to reflect on his own mortality.
On his 48th birthday in March 2025, knowing he was in the fight of his life, Van Der Beek posted a video that deserves to be remembered as his final lesson to a culture that loves to pretend people can live forever.

&#8220;When I was younger, I used to define myself as an actor, which was never really all that fulfilling. And then I became a husband, and that was much better. And then I became a father, and that was the ultimate,” he told social media followers in a clip that has gone viral after his death.
“I could define myself then as a loving, capable, strong, supportive husband, father, provider, steward of the land that we&#8217;re so lucky to live on,” he said. “And for a long time, that felt like a really good definition to the question, &#8216;Who am I?&#8217; &#8216;What am I?&#8217;”
Van Der Beek went on with some deep reflections.
&#8220;And then this year, I had to look my own mortality in the eye. I had to come nose to nose with death. And all of those definitions that I cared so deeply about were stripped from me,” he continued. “I was away for treatment. I could no longer be a husband that was helpful to my wife. I could no longer be a father who could pick up his kids and put them to bed and be there for them. I could not be a provider because I wasn&#8217;t working. I couldn&#8217;t even be a steward of the land, because at times I was too weak to prune all the trees during the window that you&#8217;re supposed to prune them.”
The answer to his struggle came through meditation, prayers, and a spiritual journey that deepened his faith, he said.
&#8220;And so I was faced with the question, if I am just a too skinny, weak guy alone in an apartment with cancer, what am I?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;I meditated, and the answer came through: I am worthy of God&#8217;s love. Simply because I exist. And if I&#8217;m worthy of God&#8217;s love, shouldn&#8217;t I also be worthy of my own? And the same is true for you.”
He spoke openly on multiple occasions about how cancer transformed his relationship with faith, plus how it changed his whole life.
&#8220;Before cancer, God was something I tried to fit into my life as much as possible,&#8221; Van Der Beek <a href="https://extratv.com/2026/02/12/james-van-der-beek-called-his-cancer-a-gift-in-his-final-interview/">said</a> during a &#8220;Today&#8221; show appearance in December. &#8220;After cancer, I feel like a connection to God, whatever that is, is kind of the whole point of this exercise on this planet.&#8221;
He also called his diagnosis a gift that would help him grow as a person. “I went into shock … One of the things I was really lucky about was as soon as I heard the news, I thought, ‘This is going to be the best thing that ever happened to me,’&#8221; he said.
The actor explained, “I had this little voice in my head that said, ‘You’re going to make changes in your life that you would never, ever make if you didn’t have this extreme of a diagnosis. And it’s going to add healthy, happy years to your life.’”
Van Der Beek used his platform to share real wisdom — not curated self-help platitudes, but insights from a man facing his own demise. He posted about embracing his family and living in gratitude for every day he was given. Until the end, he showed that a terminal diagnosis can be met with strength and stoicism.
When his wife of 15 years announced his death on Wednesday, she wrote that he met his final days &#8220;with courage, faith, and grace.&#8221; Anyone following his journey saw exactly that as Van Der Beek consistently chose inner peace over bitterness and despair.
What others said about him following his death is also a testament to his character. Van Der Beek received loving tributes from friends and former colleagues, with his &#8220;Dawson&#8217;s Creek&#8221; costar Katie Holmes <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-holmes-shares-heartfelt-tribute-to-dawsons-creek-co-star-james-van-der-beek">referring to</a> his life as &#8220;the journey of a hero.&#8221; Such accolades are to be expected from loved ones, but the most telling one came from his ex-wife, Heather McComb.
&#8220;James was a beautiful soul filled with so much light, love, talent, humor, depth, sensitivity, knowledge and a deep love of God that shined through him,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DUqoT1Dj0cs/">posted</a> on Instagram. &#8220;He shined so bright yet was so humble and human. Always searching, always growing, always going deeper, always chasing things outside his comfort zone.&#8221;
James Van Der Beek&#8217;s life after Hollywood is the antithesis of everything celebrities are known for. He had six kids despite elites telling us children are burdens. He was devoted to his wife. He ditched Hollywood for Texas. And then he talked about God and faith even when it wasn’t cool.
The world lost a good person this week, but to his six children, he leaves a legacy that lasts forever. To the rest of us, he leaves some hope that Hollywood is still hiding a few gems.

James Van Der Beek Was One Of The Good Ones

Professor Gad Saad coined the term &#8220;suicidal empathy&#8221; to describe a kind of empathy so extreme it ends up harming you. 
A prime example would be the way the West has approached immigration from third-world countries. You feel bad for people. You open your borders. A plethora of people come in and harm your civilization.
But now, it seems like we are moving beyond suicidal empathy into what I would call “homicidal empathy.” That would be exemplified by your empathy for someone getting them killed.
There’s a good example in New York City with Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who promised, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”
That collectivist warmth is manifesting in people freezing to death on the streets of New York City. Despite all of Mamdani’s photo ops showing him shoveling the snow (for a man who cannot bench press 135 pounds once), I don&#8217;t think the people of New York can count on his shoveling skills.
What he usually shovels is horse crap.
Mamdani has embraced a hands-off policy with regard to homelessness. This was the policy in California. It remains the policy in places like Los Angeles. This policy is empathetic toward the homeless to the point where you&#8217;re killing the homeless.
The policy argues that they should be able to live out on the streets, that it is a form of cruelty and intolerance to involuntarily commit people who are usually drug-addicted or schizophrenic, people who can&#8217;t take care of themselves. Somehow, it is more empathetic to leave them out on the streets to get scabies or to die in the cold.
This seems to be the way the left-wing brain is working in Mamdani-land, California, and other liberal areas of the country. 18 people have died in the cold snap that has hit New York City.

Brian Stettin, who served as a senior advisor to former Mayor Eric Adams in his administration, told the New York Post, “When a person is in imminent danger, there&#8217;s no debate. Whatever ideological divides we have should not have any impact on these policies during a Code Blue.”
A mumbling homeless woman who braved some Antarctic temperatures was featured on the front cover of the Post on Monday.
The Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/02/08/us-news/mumbling-homeless-woman-left-to-spend-night-on-nyc-sidewalk/">reported</a>:
<blockquote>The unidentified woman was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, slippers and two blankets as she clipped her nails, put lotion on her hands and talked to herself while hunkered down on East 34th Street across from NYU Langone Hospital as temperatures neared 0 degrees early Sunday. She refused repeated offers for help from EMS workers and cops — who explained to The Post they had to leave the shivering vagrant in the extremely dangerous bone-chilling weather because she could answer basic questions — a factor that helps meet the threshold of Dem Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s controversial homeless policies.</blockquote>
That’s Mamdani&#8217;s shtick: If you can answer basic questions such as “What day of the week is it?” “What is your name?”, then they will leave you out on the streets to freeze. 
Mamdani held a press conference over the weekend. “Stay warm. Stay inside if you can. And please, stay safe,” he said.
“You&#8217;ve implored the people on the streets who feel more comfortable on the streets to come inside. But what happens if they don&#8217;t at this point? &#8230;20 minutes out in the cold could lead to a fatality. So are you not using as a last resort at this point to bring them inside and volunteer, even if just a few hours doesn&#8217;t lead to a placement?” a reporter asked.
“Involuntary transport continues to be used in the same manner it was as the prior administration,” Mamdani replied. “And thus far, we have seen clinical determinations of a number of New Yorkers who have been deemed to be a danger to themselves or to others. And sometimes that designation comes from an assessment that a New Yorker is not adequately clothed, given the weather that they are living through in that moment. And that is going to continue to be part of the assessments that outreach workers are making over the course of tomorrow or the next day.”
Mamdani’s last resort policy says that you can only be forced indoors if you are deemed a danger to yourself or others. The problem, of course, is that if you are Zohran Mamdani and you have spent your entire career ripping down cops and treating people as though they&#8217;re committing a human rights violation by pushing people indoors, people might be a little hesitant to actually take responsibility for calling somebody a “danger to themselves or others.”
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/02/10/us-news/mamdani-wont-budge-on-involuntary-removal-of-homeless-new-yorkers-from-streets-as-cold-deaths-reach-18/">reported</a>:
<blockquote>Down in Baltimore, Mayor Brandon Scott — whom Mamdani once praised for his crime reduction efforts — late last month called the cold a life-or-death issue and ordered the police department to take people off the streets even if they were refusing services. “That direction order came from me because we cannot allow folks to be out in this kind of weather,” Scott said.</blockquote>
The fact that this has become a matter of public controversy is totally insane.
Zoran Mamdani apparently has so much sympathy for people. I&#8217;m going to put it out there: If you are out on the streets sleeping on the sidewalk, that is not a housing problem in the middle of a cold snap. That is a crazy problem if other options are given to you. No sane and rational person, by definition, who is not a danger to themselves, is sleeping out on the street in zero-degree weather. That is not a thing that sane and rational people do unless they are Arctic explorers of some type.
This comes down to Mamdani’s bizarro world empathy that legitimately gets people killed. This sort of policy, when you apply it to crime, leads to more criminals on the streets. When you apply it to homelessness, it leads to more homeless people on the streets.
The empathy that you have for the purported victim of America&#8217;s “evil, racist, abusive” system leads to the very people you are supposedly trying to help sometimes dying.
On February 6, the New York Post reported that Mamdani was still refusing to clear homeless camps and forcibly remove people from the streets, despite a rising death toll and a fresh snap of deadly deep freeze. Instead, he implored people to come inside.
If people refuse to come inside in the middle of zero-degree weather while living on the streets, it will not be solved by you imploring them.
City Journal <a href="https://www.city-journal.org/article/zohran-mamdani-homeless-deaths-cold-weather">reported</a>:
<blockquote>During last year’s campaign, Mamdani promised to end a program initiated by his predecessor, Eric Adams, that deploys clinicians, backed by police officers, to assess people’s ability to care for themselves and, if necessary, to transport them involuntarily to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. He repeatedly said that involuntary commitment was a “last resort,” preferring instead an approach that would have civilian workers “help that person navigate their housing options.” He has also disavowed dismantling homeless encampments. </blockquote>
That was a proactive move by Adams to determine whether somebody ought to be on the streets or not. And Mamdani wanted to kill that. I guess the presumption was that unless they were in the throes of some sort of crime, they should never have an engagement with law enforcement.
The message being sent to the homeless is, basically, you have a right to live on the streets. And the message being sent to public service workers, cops, and mental health professionals is that you&#8217;re going to be called on the carpet if you make the mistake of bringing somebody in.
It&#8217;s nuts, it&#8217;s bad, and it&#8217;s stupid.
It&#8217;s indicative of a deeper brain rot that has set in large parts of the Left: That empathy amounts to humoring people in their delusions, even if it’s dangerous to them.
