Question: I’ve worked in emergency medicine for 11 years, and I’ve seen a lot of death. Yet I am so afraid of dying. Any advice on how I can be at peace with dying and mortality?
Answer: Well, I do not know that anyone is ever really at peace with the reality of death. Read Socrates’ “Apology.” There are two versions: Plato’s and Xenophon’s. They are quite short, only a few pages long, so read both. Why read “Apology”? Because Socrates puts forward an interesting proposition and one worth contemplating. 
Implicit in Socrates’ “Apology” is the suggestion to imagine that you lived your life fully. Living your life fully would mean that you say what you have to say when you have to say it, and you do what you need to do when you need to do it. It would mean you avail yourself of every opportunity that comes your way. You would exhaust yourself in the service of your life. Then, maybe by the time you were old, you would have had enough. And you could just let go. 
You see this with older people, and we know this sometimes when we grieve. When a relative who is 95 dies, people are sad, but they often say, “They lived a full life.” The fuller the life, the less catastrophic the demise appears to be in some ways. So it might be that if you fully exhausted yourself, your life would be enough. After all, when people are old and look back on their life, they are often sorrowful and regretful for the things they did not do, the things they left undone, and in their older age, cannot do.
I asked my parents once if they could take a drug that would return them to being physically 18-years-old but were able to keep the wisdom they had accrued over the years, if they would do it. They did not say yes right away. Yet they did not say no right away either. I do not know if they ever told me what they had decided. But it is interesting to ponder because you would think if you were offered something approximating immortality and health, you would take it. And maybe you would.

An alternative proposition would be to extract out an extra decade. It is not as though I am not trying to maintain myself; keeping oneself healthy seems like a good thing. But would I want to live 500 years? That is a long time. 1,000 years? I do not know. But the alternative is truncated existence with death — and that is also not particularly palatable. So, is there a medicament for mortality?
For those who are parents with now-grown children, would you have children again? Maybe the answer is yes, but another answer is, “Well, I had kids already. I already did that.” And if you did that well, maybe that is enough. Tammy and I have grandchildren now, which is not the same as having children, though it is kids-like, and it is wonderful. Tammy has joked that grandchildren have all the advantages of children with none of the disadvantages.
Everyone laughs at that because everyone understands the sentiment. It is great to have grandchildren. But would we return to our youth and do it again? That is a difficult question to answer. You cannot really know what you would decide unless that option were actually to become available to you. Maybe the answer is yes. Maybe the answer is no because we have been there and done that. So it is on to whatever the next thing is.
If you are afraid of death, take a look at how you are living and see if you are all in. Maybe if you are all in enough, that is and will be good enough. I also believe if you are all in, and death visits, and you know death is impending, you could say to yourself, “I did everything that I was here to do.” At least then you will not torture yourself with that as you are facing death.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/toby-keith">Toby Keith’s</a> daughter, Krystal Keith, shared a touching tribute to her dad with a series of family photos one year after the country singer died from stomach cancer on February 5, 2024. He was 62.
In a post on Wednesday on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DFsuK5qxyXb/?igsh=NjZiM2M3MzIxNA%3D%3D">Instagram</a>, Krystal wrote about the kind of father the late country singer was to her and her siblings and the incredible grandfather he was to her kids.
“It feels like yesterday we said goodbye and yet it somehow has also been the longest year without him,” Keith wrote. “I can’t help but find gratitude in all the time we had because we did all of life as a family unit.”
“It’s hard to find a candid picture where he doesn’t have one of our babies in his arms,” she added. “He was their favorite, and they were his. Our littles miss their buddy big time but we all know we will see him again someday.”
“Until then, he will watch over us and walk beside us,” Keith continued. “Every sunset (and he LOOOOVED his sunsets) is a reminder that he wants us to live our best life and do good in the world. So that’s exactly is what we will do.”

Her brother, Stelen Keith Covel, also shared a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/stelenkcovel/reel/DFtDUG0B0gz/">sweet post</a> on the anniversary of his father’s death.
“A whole year without my hero,” his son wrote. “Here’s to one day having more of these nights. Love you dad.”
Last year, the “Red Solo Cup” hitmaker was inducted into the Country Hall of Fame, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fans-react-to-toby-keiths-upcoming-induction-into-country-music-hall-of-fame-hes-in-heaven-singing-his-heart-out">reported</a>. He died the day before he would’ve learned about his inclusion in the hall.
Shortly after Keith’s death, the late singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/toby-keith-breaks-record-on-music-chart-following-his-death">broke a record</a> and made history after beating out music giants like Kenny Rogers and Taylor Swift to dominate 90 percent of the top 10 songs on the Country Digital Song Sales chart at one time.
After his death, the “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” hitmaker’s catalog of music filled the country charts. He is now the first artist ever to claim nine spaces in the top 10 songs on the Billboard chart, <a href="https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/toby-keith-makes-history-country-digital-song-sales-chart-1235606479/">Billboard</a> reported.
Following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cancers-a-rollercoaster-toby-keith-said-faith-got-him-through-health-battle-in-intv-before-his-death">Keith’</a>s diagnosis in 2021, he talked about his incredible country singing career.

Actress Aubrey Plaza issued a statement on her husband Jeff Baena’s suicide.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support,” Plaza and the Baena and Stern families said in an official statement on Monday, per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/aubrey-plaza-jeff-baena-death-husband-tragedy-1236265473/">Variety</a>. &#8220;Please respect our privacy during this time.”
Baena was discovered dead at his Los Angeles home on January 3. He was 47. The Hollywood writer and director was best known for his work on “Horse Girl,” “Joshy,” and for co-writing the popular 2004 comedy “I Heart Huckabees.”
It was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cause-of-death-for-director-jeff-baena-47-revealed">announced</a> on Monday that the coroner’s office determined Baena’s cause of death to be suicide.
He and Plaza married in 2021 after dating quietly for years. After meeting in 2011, they worked on several projects together, including the 2014 horror-comedy “Life After Beth” and the 2017 historical comedy “The Little Hours.” 
Plaza previously discussed what it was like working with her husband in the industry.

So obviously you are able to support each other and really understand kind of the journey that we’re both on,” the “Park and Recreation” star <a href="https://people.com/movies/aubrey-plaza-relationship-boyfriend-all-about-blanace/">told</a> People during a 2019 interview.
“So I think that can be really great,” the actress continued. “But, you know, working with your partner can always be challenging. There’s a lot of things we do separately and I think that it’s all about balance.”
“One of the great things about our careers is that we are forced to be independent, take little breaks, go off and do our things and come back. So it’s kind of fun. Nothing is ever the same. You don’t want to spend too much time apart. But I think that there’s a way that it can work and there’s a balance in that,” Plaza said.
The actress was slated to present an award at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday but did not attend the show following the death of her husband.

The medical examiner has <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/06/entertainment/jeff-baena-cause-of-death/index.html">reportedly</a> determined the cause of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/death">death</a> for writer and director <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Jeff Baena</a> as a suicide after the 47-year-old was found dead at his Los Angeles home over the weekend.
A spokesperson for Baena confirmed his death two days ago, releasing a statement that said, &#8220;The family is devastated and asks for privacy at this difficult time.&#8221; 
Baena is the husband of “White Lotus” and “Parks and Recreation” actress Aubrey Plaza and is best known for his work on “Horse Girl,” “Joshy,” “The Little Hours,” and “Life After Beth,” which starred Plaza, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jeff-baena-director-and-husband-to-aubrey-plaza-dies-at-age-47">reported</a>.
He and Plaza married in 2021 after dating quietly for years prior. The two had worked on several projects together, including the 2014 horror-comedy “Life After Beth” and the 2017 historical comedy “The Little Hours.” 
In addition to directing, Baena co-wrote the popular 2004 comedy “I Heart Huckabees.” Baena’s films were shown at major industry events, including Sundance and South by Southwest. He had movies released by major distributors such as Netflix, IFC, and Lionsgate, Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/jeff-baena-screenwriter-director-aubrey-plaza-husband-dies-obituary-1236265440/">reported</a>.
Director Brady Corbet mentioned Baena’s death during his Golden Globes acceptance speech Sunday night. Plaza was initially slated to be one of the night’s presenters but did not attend the event.
Corbet won Best Director for &#8220;The Brutalist.&#8221; He thanked the award show for the honor and then mentioned Baena.
&#8220;Finally, tonight my heart is with Aubrey Plaza and Jeff&#8217;s family,&#8221; Corbet said at the conclusion of his speech. &#8220;Goodnight.&#8221;
Baena moved to Los Angeles after graduating from NYU film school. He became a production assistant for Robert Zemeckis. He worked on several projects before taking a job as an assistant editor for writer-director David O. Russell, with whom he worked on &#8220;I Heart Huckabees.&#8221;
Baena is survived by wife Aubrey Plaza, mom Barbara Stern and stepfather Roger Stern, dad Scott Baena and stepmother Michele Baena, brother Brad Baena and stepsister and stepbrother Bianca Gabay and Jed Fluxman.

Indie screenwriter and director Jeff Baena died Friday at age 47 in Los Angeles.
A spokesperson for Baena confirmed his death, Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/jeff-baena-screenwriter-director-aubrey-plaza-husband-dies-obituary-1236265440/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Baena, the husband of &#8220;White Lotus&#8221; and &#8220;Parks and Recreation&#8221; actress Aubrey Plaza, is best known for his work on &#8220;The Little Hours,&#8221; and &#8220;Life After Beth,&#8221; which starred Plaza.
The New York Post on Saturday afternoon <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/01/04/entertainment/aubrey-plazas-husband-jeff-baena-dead-at-47/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Baena was found by an assistant on Friday and law enforcement reportedly said he died by suicide.
The pair wed on their 10th anniversary of dating in 2021, in an impromptu backyard ceremony.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/netflix">Netflix</a> documentary “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/documentary">Don’t Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever</a>” about a tech millionaire obsessed with extending his life is getting a lot of reactions online.
Bryan Johnson, 47, first started getting mainstream attention last January thanks to a Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2023-01-25/anti-aging-techniques-taken-to-extreme-by-bryan-johnson">article </a>detailing his $2 million per year health regimen, which he claims is helping to slow the aging process. The L.A.-based entrepreneur takes 130 pills daily, eats dinner at 11 a.m., goes to bed at 8:30 p.m., and does a 90-minute workout every day. He also has weekly MRIs, skin care treatments, plasma exchanges, and Follistatin gene therapy, which is not approved by the FDA, per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/biz/news/dont-die-netflix-documentary-bryan-johnson-anti-aging-1236262153/">Variety</a>.
For these efforts, Johnson <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bryanrjohnson_my-new-record-064-pace-of-aging-my-birthday-activity-7206375978141405185-Osp3">claims</a> he only ages at a rate of 0.64, meaning he believes to be aging 7.6 months for every 12 months. He spent a total of $4 million developing a life-extension system called Blueprint, which he has been using for himself to promote longevity.
Documentary filmmaker Chris Smith followed Johnson around for a year, documenting his regimen and the family relationships the entrepreneur has with his father and his son, who at one point all swapped plasma.
“We do a good job of showing that some people think that what Bryan is doing has a lot of value and some people don’t,” Smith told Variety in an interview. “One of my hopes is that people take away from the movie that a large amount of health benefits can be achieved through sleep, diet, and exercise. That is something that is attainable by anyone.”

Some social media users expressed their skepticism about the documentary and the claims Johnson is making, while others thought he gave good advice.
“Here’s the truth: my secret plan is for ‘Don’t Die’ to become the world’s most influential ideology by 2027. Our existence depends upon it,” Johnson wrote in an X post on New Year’s Day.
“For 2,500 years, human history has been shaped by ideologies: Capitalism, Democracy, Socialism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc. But none of these systems are built for this moment. The question we face—what do humans do when giving birth to superintelligence?—is the most important one in this part of the galaxy. And no one, no country, no ideology, no company has an answer.”
“Your hubris is immeasurable,” one commenter <a href="https://x.com/0xPuff/status/1874651213419213159">wrote</a>.
“Your ‘Don’t Die’ ideology is very limited and flawed, because it’s missing the spiritual aspect of longevity &amp; immortality,” another person <a href="https://x.com/pakzadroya/status/1874533272463818949">wrote</a>.
“This sounds more like a marketing pitch than a serious ideology,” another response says. “Survival is a basic instinct, not a cohesive framework for managing the complexities of life, society, or technology. Humans don’t just live to ‘not die’, we live for meaning, growth, connection, and purpose.”
Other reactions said that Johnson’s advice was basic at its core. “My critical summary of ‘Don’t Die’ on Netflix: &#8211; Man leaves Mormonism; Middle-aged man gets fat, sick, and rich; Middle-aged man discovers exercise and vegetables,” a fourth person <a href="https://x.com/B_Holmer/status/1874447516340748308">wrote</a> of the documentary.
Plenty of other commenters were excited about Johnson’s approach and implored him to change the name from “don’t die” to something less controversial that focused on longevity rather than mortality.

In September, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gop-senators-son-involved-in-police-chase-resulting-in-death-of-sheriffs-deputy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ian Cramer</a> pleaded guilty to all of the charges against him, which included homicide while fleeing a peace officer, preventing arrest, reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer, and drug- and driving-related offenses, according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/31/us/ian-cramer-sentenced-north-dakota-deputy-killed/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a>. State District Judge Bobbi Weiler handed down Cramer&#8217;s sentence, which was 38 years with 10 years suspended, but the judge said that Cramer would likely only serve &#8220;a small portion&#8221; of the 28 years.
“The (state) Department of Corrections has their own policy on how much time you’re going to serve,” Weiler said. “These are not mandatory minimums, which means that you’re probably going to serve a small portion of that 28 years and be out on parole, so that’ll … give you an opportunity to have a second chance that Deputy Martin does not have, nor does his family have.”
Cramer was taken to the emergency room on December 6, 2023, by his mother, Kris, over concerns about his mental health. After Kris exited the vehicle at the hospital, Cramer slid into the driver&#8217;s seat and took off. He later fled from deputies, sparking a chase.
Spike strips deployed by law enforcement flattened two tires on the SUV Cramer was driving, but he continued to evade law enforcement. Another set of spike strips was deployed to stop Cramer&#8217;s vehicle, but Cramer swerved to avoid them and rammed into Martin&#8217;s patrol car, launching the deputy 100 feet, according to authorities. Martin, 53, was declared dead at a hospital.
Martin served his community with the Mercer County Sheriff&#8217;s Office for 18 years and, just a week before his death, discussed plans to retire. He is <a href="https://www.odmp.org/officer/26849-deputy-sheriff-paul-martin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survived</a> by his wife, three children, and four grandchildren.
Cramer issued an apology to the deputy&#8217;s family in court on Monday.
“I had no intention to do any of this. It was an accident, and I just hope that someday they can forgive me, and I think the best thing for me is to go to a hospital and just get more help,” Cramer said.
According to Mercer County State’s Attorney Todd Schwarz, Cramer also struggled with drugs and admitted to using methamphetamine and bath salts on the day of the crash. Judge Weiler&#8217;s recommended treatment for Cramer for mental health and drug addiction.
Sen. Cramer said he is &#8220;somewhat disappointed that mental health is so casually dismissed both by the court and by the prosecutor,&#8221; but added, &#8220;I don’t think there’s any question there’s not one person, including Ian, who doesn’t know that they were his choices that led to this, whatever they may be, under whatever condition, choices that go back many years.”

Five people have been charged in connection with the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/death">death</a> of One Direction star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/liam-payne">Liam Payne</a>, per local Argentinian outlets <a href="https://www.infobae.com/sociedad/policiales/2024/12/29/la-muerte-de-liam-payne-procesaron-a-cuatro-acusados-y-a-dos-les-dictaron-la-prision-preventiva/">Infobae</a> and Clarín.
The singer was 31 years old when he died after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires in October.
Payne’s self-described “very dear friend,” Argentinian businessman Rogelio “Roger” Nores, is among those charged, The Independent <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/liam-payne-death-rogelio-nores-b2671421.html">noted</a>. Nores said he left the hotel 40 minutes before Payne&#8217;s death and denied any involvement in what happened.
The hotel’s chief receptionist, Esteban Grassi, and head of security, Gilda Martin, are also charged with manslaughter, per the report from Infobae.
Nores said in a statement last month, “I never abandoned Liam, I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened. There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could never have imagined something like this would happen.”
Hotel waiter Braian Paiz previously admitted to using drugs with Payne, including cocaine. Paiz has been charged with supplying narcotics for payment. A second hotel employee named Ezequiel Pereyra was also charged with supplying drugs.
The One Direction star died after sustaining a serious skull fracture. Payne’s autopsy later determined the singer had a toxic mixture of drugs in his system, including crack and so-called “pink cocaine” — a mix of ketamine and other drugs, per <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/30/entertainment/five-now-charged-over-liam-paynes-death-including-pal-report/">the New York Post</a>.
His funeral was held in November in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. The singer’s ex, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, was in attendance. The former couple had a 7-year-old son, Bear Grey.
Buenos Aires police found Payne&#8217;s hotel room “in total disorder” after the singer&#8217;s death, the NY Post noted. Hotel staff called emergency services minutes before Payne’s fatal fall to report that the celebrity was “trashing the room.”

In the official notice against the state, the guardians of the two animals, Mark Longo and his partner Daniela Bittner, accused the state of unlawful search and seizure, violation of freedom of speech, and other violations, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/27/peanut-the-squirrel-owner-notice-intends-sue-new-york/">TMZ</a> reported. They are also suing for emotional distress, as well as lost wages.
The animals were seized from Longo’s home in upstate New York on October 30 by officials with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and then euthanized.
At the time of the raid, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/peanut-pet-squirrel-seized-euthanized-45a4cba19e1c49cb0cd58fef0f140f0d">reported</a> that the DEC took both animals from the Longos’ home. The agency reportedly said it received complaints that wildlife was potentially at risk and being kept illegally. The Longos told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/01/peanut-the-squirrel-seized-killed-new-york-owner-rips-state/">TMZ</a> that they have had Peanut for seven years, after rescuing the squirrel when its mother was killed.
The DEC also said in a statement that Peanut bit an investigator on the hand while the squirrel was being confiscated, sparking the need to test for rabies, and “both animals were euthanized…” according to <a href="https://www.mytwintiers.com/chemung-county/peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-dec-to-test-for-rabies/">WETM</a>.

In the notice to the state from their attorney, Nora Constance Marino, the couple claim, “It is submitted that the notion that a DEC agent and/or other respondents’ agent was ‘bitten’ by Peanut may be false and/or manufactured,” the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/27/us-news/pnut-the-squirrels-family-set-to-sue-nys-as-they-claim-agents-may-have-made-up-story-to-execute-decapitate-beloved-pet/">New York Post</a> reported.
“It is further submitted that even if an agent was in fact bitten, killing Peanut would still be unnecessary, unjustified, improper, and illegal, it is further submitted that there is no claim that Fred the raccoon bit anyone, and thus, the killing of Fred was unnecessary, unjustified, improper, and illegal,” the notice added, claiming that the animals were not wild, but legal companions, and thus there was no reason they had to be killed.

As <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/12/us-news/pnut-the-squirrel-was-marked-for-death-and-decapitation-from-the-start-as-rabies-test-comes-back-negative-in-tragic-twist/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter">previously reported</a>, a timeline for euthanasia of the animals doesn’t match up and the Post reported that both animals were advised to be euthanized by state officials a week before the raid.
“DEC is aware of an individual in Chemung County who is known to illegally possess an adult gray squirrel and at least 4 young raccoons. They may also be in possession of other illegal wildlife species,” the DEC said in a message to the county on October 22. “We would like to know if the Health Department would recommend these animals be tested for rabies as a precaution for human safety.”
The State Department of Health letter to the county on October 23 then read,  “Wildlife cannot be confined like domestic animals, and if there was an exposure, the animals would need to be tested for rabies,” <a href="https://www.wbng.com/video/2024/11/12/chemung-county-health-department-clarifies-role-peanut-squirrel-euthanization-2/">WBNG</a> reported.
Days later, officials took steps for their raid — but the Post noted that the DEC was already coordinating the animals’ euthanasia with Elmira Animal Control.

The latest report into the death of former One Direction member <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/three-people-face-charges-in-relation-to-death-of-former-one-direction-member-liam-payne">Liam Payne</a> leaves more questions than answers following his fatal fall from the balcony of his hotel room on October 16. He was 31.
According to surveillance video footage from the hotel, witnesses, a 911 call and the police, the singer may not have been trying to end his life, but rather could have been using the balcony as a means to escape his Buenos Aires CasaSur Palermo Hotel, <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/25/liam-payne-left-in-room-by-hotel-workers-and-tried-to-scale-balcony/">TMZ</a> reported.
In one video from the hotel, minutes before his death, the singer is being carried out of the lobby by three men. In a second video, those same men use their key to get the singer inside his room while he struggled to get free.
The outlet also learned that Payne’s hat was located close to where his body was found in the hotel courtyard and strapped to his shoulder was a bag, leading some to speculate that he was trying to leave via the balcony.

After his death, a brown leather bag was found on a second floor balcony leading the outlet to suggest that Payne may have only been attempting to get from the third floor balcony to the second when something went wrong. A note inside the bag read “for Liam,&#8221; and the bag also contained various pills and a bottle of alcohol.
Multiple 911 calls made by the hotel staff minutes before the singer’s shocking fatal fall appear to support the idea.

A <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj9jx89w490o">BBC transcript</a> stated that the staff said the person had been “trashing the entire room” before his death. In a second call, a member of the hotel staff said they worried the guest’s “life may be in danger” because he was “in a room with a balcony. We’re a little afraid that he …” the BBC reported.

The 911 operator assured the manager that emergency crews were on the way, per the outlet.
The cause of death is currently listed as “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding,” the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/liam-payne-one-direction-death-487239e4f0b938a6f350a7d2f14737e4">Associated Press</a> reported. 
Apparently using balconies to escape places was not unheard of for the singer. Sources with knowledge told TMZ that in mid-September Payne escaped from a Florida rental house using the balcony and a garden hose after his bodyguard had forced him inside the house for fear he would go on drug binge.

At least two people were killed and nearly a dozen wounded when a factory in Louisville, Kentucky, was destroyed in an explosion on Tuesday.
All of the victims are employees of Givaudan Sense Colour, a factory that produces caramel color for soft drinks, ABC&#8217;s Louisville affiliate WHAS 11 <a href="https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/2-people-dead-large-factory-explosion-louisville/417-a05bfdd5-6dd4-40cf-ab4c-11918f041b6d" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Twelve people were transported to the hospital following the explosion, and two of them who were in critical condition died overnight, according to WHAS 11.

Tuesday&#8217;s deadly explosion was not the first at the location. In 2003, when the building was owned by D.D. Williamson, one worker was killed when a &#8220;process vessel became over pressurized&#8221; and released 26,000 pounds of aqueous ammonia into the air, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/12/us/explosion-louisville-kentucky/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“And you would think that after one explosion, it wouldn’t happen again. But here we are,” said Lorrie Hibbard, whose grandfather was killed in the 2003 accident. “All I heard was that there was an explosion at the plant again, and it just takes you right back to 2003.”
