A family in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/north-carolina" target="_blank" rel="noopener">North Carolina</a> is devastated after 11 of their loved ones were killed by a mudslide caused by the flooding from Hurricane Helene.
The Craig family — whose ancestors first settled in Fairview, North Carolina, in the 1950s — was so well-known to locals that they nicknamed their group of neighboring homes &#8220;Craigtown,&#8221; ABC 11 <a href="https://abc11.com/post/mudslide-north-carolina-helene-rain-wiped-craigtown-killing-11-family-members-communitys-namesake/15405701/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The family&#8217;s life in Fairview changed forever at the end of September when Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic flooding to the southeast U.S.
Several of the Craig family members who lived next to each other were in the direct path of a deadly mudslide caused by the flooding, according to ABC 11. Everyone who was in the homes at the time of the mudslide was killed.
&#8220;My mother and father, my aunt and uncle, my great aunt and uncle &#8212; I&#8217;ve lost cousins, second cousins, things like that, but 11 people overall from this mudslide,&#8221; said Jesse Craig.
Jesse&#8217;s grandfather was the first Craig to move to Fairview when he bought land in the 1950s, and since that time, much of the Craig family has lived in Fairview.
&#8220;I haven&#8217;t been able to process it yet. It&#8217;s still &#8212; it&#8217;s not new because it feels like it&#8217;s been forever; I don&#8217;t even know what day it is,&#8221; Jesse&#8217;s wife MeKenzie said.
&#8220;We&#8217;ll never make sense of it. You know, it&#8217;s our community and our town. I don&#8217;t &#8212; I don&#8217;t know that it&#8217;ll ever be the same,&#8221; MeKenzie added. &#8220;It&#8217;s been that life-altering a situation.&#8221;

A <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-craig-family-after-tragic-loss" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GoFundMe</a> was started for the surviving members of the Craig family to help pay for funeral costs, medical expenses, clean up, and construction. As of Thursday night, the GoFundMe has raised $127,748.
&#8220;We are personal friends of the Craig family and wanted to support them by putting this together to help them with whatever needs they currently have and will have in the coming weeks/months,&#8221; the GoFundMe states.
More than 230 people have been found dead across the southeast following Hurricane Helene. In Buncombe County, North Carolina, where Fairview is located, <a href="https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/2024/10/10/latest-updates-western-north-carolina-asheville-flooding-helene-death-toll-recovery/75586826007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">72 people</a> were killed in the storm, according to Sheriff Quentin Miller. Authorities in North Carolina continue to search for those who have been missing since Helene hit the state, but they <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/hurricane-helene-more-than-90-reported-dead-north-carolina-authorities-cant-confirm-how-many-missing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cannot confirm</a> exactly how many people are missing.

In the new memoir “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Here-Great-Lisa-Marie-Presley/dp/0593733878" target="_blank" rel="noopener">From Here to the Great Unknown</a>” &#8212; written by Lisa Marie and completed by her daughter actress Riley Keough &#8212; the late star opened up about becoming addicted to the painkillers after giving birth to her twins in 2008, Finley and Harper, with ex-husband Michael, <a href="https://people.com/lisa-marie-presley-would-take-80-pills-during-her-opioid-addiction-8724749">People magazine</a> reported. Presley died in January 2023 at the age of 54 from complications from prior bariatric surgery.
&#8220;It escalated to 80 pills a day,&#8221; Lisa Marie wrote. &#8220;It took more and more to get high, and I honestly don&#8217;t know when your body decides it can&#8217;t deal with it anymore. But it does decide at some point.&#8221;
The late star said her opioid use was &#8220;recreational” for a few years, until &#8220;it wasn&#8217;t.&#8221;
&#8220;It was an absolute matter of addiction, withdrawal in the big leagues. I just wanted to check out. It was too painful to be sober.&#8221;

Keough wrote that her mom first became addicted to the narcotics while dealing with the pain of her C-section from having the twins. Her addiction progressed from using the opioids to help her “sleep,&#8221; but she began to feel “shame” about becoming an addict with two young kids.

The 35-year-old actress wrote that, even when her mom was court-ordered to go to a rehab center, she “didn&#8217;t feel” her mom “was ready to be sober.” She also wrote that after her mom’s rehab stint, Lisa Marie did stop using opioids, but was still getting high on the &#8220;post-rehab cocktail.&#8221;
Keough previously opened up about how “incredibly painful” it was making her late mother’s final wish a reality, by completing Presley’s memoir.
“Because my mother was Elvis Presley’s daughter, she was constantly talked about, argued over and dissected,” Keough explained.
“What she wanted to do in her memoir, and what I hope I’ve done in finishing it for her, is to go beneath the magazine headline idea of her and reveal the core of who she was,” she added. “To turn her into a three-dimensional human being: the best mother, a wild child, a fierce friend, an underrated artist, frank, funny, traumatized, joyous, grieving, everything that she was throughout her remarkable life.”
“I want to give voice to my mother in a way that eluded her while she was alive,” Riley continued. “I hope that in an extraordinary circumstance, people relate to a very human experience of love, heartbreak, loss, addiction and family. [My mom] wanted to write a book in the hopes that someone could read her story and relate to her, to know that they’re not alone in the world. Her hope with this book was just human connection. So that’s mine.”

“Coming to America” and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood</a> TV star John Amos passed away on August 21 in Los Angeles of natural causes, Amos’ son Kelly Christopher shared. He was 84.
In a <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/john-amos-dead-good-times-roots-1236019054/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Tuesday to The Hollywood Reporter, Amos’ son K.C. wrote, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned.”
“He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over, many fans consider him their TV father,” he added. “He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”
“My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life… most recently in ‘Suits LA’ playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, ‘America’s Dad,’” K.C. continued. “He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”

Born in 1939 in Newark, New Jersey, Amos graduated from high school and later from Colorado State University. Despite having a degree in sociology, Amos had hopes of playing in the NFL, the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/10/01/entertainment/john-amos-dead-good-times-star-dies-at-84/">New York Post</a> noted. However, multiple injuries during training camps derailed those dreams leading him to acting.
In 1970, he made his debut on “The Bill Cosby Show” and his career really took off after he got the part of Gordon “Gordy” Howard the weatherman on the hit show “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” appearing on it from 1970 to 1977.

Later, he got the father role in a sitcom about an African American family as James Evans Sr. in “Good Times.” It was a spin-off of “All in the Family” and “Maude” from TV giant Norman Lear.
Amos was on the series for three years before his character was killed in a car accident. Behind the scenes, the actor was unhappy with the direction of his character and others on the show, the Post noted.
During an interview in <a href="https://norwalkreflector.com/news/107110/television-qa-why-dont-networks-rebroadcast-shows-like-dynasty-and-dallas/#:~:text=A%3A%20Major%20networks%20can't,it%20after%20three%20unremarkable%20seasons." target="_blank" rel="noopener">2017</a>, Amos said, “When the show first started, we had no African American writers on the show, and some of the attitudes they had written, as per my character and, frankly, for some of the other characters as well, caused me to say … ‘We can’t do this, we can’t do that.’ And they’d say, ‘What do you mean we can’t do this?'&#8221;
“They’d go on about their credits … and I’d look at each and every one of them and say, ‘Well, how long have you been black? That just doesn’t happen in the community. We don’t think that way. We don’t act that way. We don’t let our children do that,'&#8221; he added.
In 1977, he appeared in the mini-series “Roots” as adult Kunta Kinte, which him earned an Emmy nomination.
Amos&#8217; TV acting credits include appearing on shows like “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “In the House,” “The West Wing,” “Men in Trees,” and “The Ranch.” He also appeared on the big screen in movies like “Coming to America,” &#8220;Coming to America 2,&#8221; “Lock Up,” and “Die Hard 2.”

The news was shared by the TV personality’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">co-star</a>, Mike Wolfe, in an Instagram post on Tuesday. 
&#8220;It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night,” Wolfe wrote in the caption, which appeared alongside the duo standing together.

Wolfe went on, “We’ve been on countless trips and shared so many miles and I feel blessed that I was there by his side when he took one last journey home. I love you buddy and will miss you so much I know your [sic] in a better place.”
“American Pickers” is a popular reality show on The History Channel, which Fritz was part of for more than 300 episodes from 2010 until 2021. He left the series after 21 seasons while Wolfe stayed on. The two had some hiccups in their relationship, especially during the COVID pandemic, but had been in touch recently, per <a href="https://ew.com/frank-fritz-dead-american-pickers-star-was-60-8721234">Entertainment Weekly</a>.
Fritz was hospitalized after suffering a stroke in 2022. 
“We are saddened to share that our friend and beloved member of The History Channel and American Pickers family, Frank Fritz, has passed away on September 30, 2024,” the History Channel and Cineflix Production said in a joint statement on Tuesday. “Frank filmed American Pickers for over a decade. We will always remember ‘the bearded charmer’ and his never-ending search for vintage motorcycles and bikes. Our thoughts are with Frank’s loved ones during this difficult time. He will be deeply missed.”

Major League Baseball hitting legend Pete Rose, who loved playing baseball as much as any man who ever lived, passed away on Monday at his home in Las Vegas, his agent has confirmed. He was 83 years old.
Rose’s agent Ryan Fiterman confirmed to <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/09/30/pete-rose-dead/">TMZ</a> that Rose had died and &#8220;the family is asking for privacy at this time.&#8221;  A cause of death has yet to be reported.
Rose, who once said, &#8220;I&#8217;d walk through hell in a gasoline suit to play baseball,&#8221;  started his pro career with the Cincinnati Reds, in 1963, when he won Rookie of the Year. His all-out, hell-bent-for leather style reminded old-time baseball fans of the legendary Ty Cobb, whose career hits record Rose would ultimately break. He was a 17-time All-Star and the National League MVP in 1973. He was the fiercest member of the legendary Big Red Machine in Cincinnati whose 1975 and 1976 World Series-winning teams are considered one of the best teams to have ever played in the major leagues.
In November 1978, Rose became a free agent, then signed with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played for five years, becoming an integral reason why they won their first-ever  World Series in 1980 after eight decades of waiting. At the age of 41, he played each and every game of the 162-game season in 1982. After a brief sojourn with the Montreal Expos in 1984, he finished the season and played two more back with the Reds, finishing with the most hits, most games played, and most at-bats of any player in the history of major league baseball.
The switch-hitting Rose started his career playing second base, but when asked to move to third base immediately played there, all part of his ferocious desire to win. He was famous for calculating his batting average on his way to first base after a base hit, and could quote at length his statistics against all of the great pitchers he faced. He said the Los Angeles Dodgers&#8217; Sandy Koufax was the toughest pitcher he ever faced, and would take a coin and push it off a table to fall straight down, saying that was how impossible Koufax&#8217;s curveball was to hit. &#8220;I got 10 for 57 off of him. Get your calculator; that&#8217;s .175. When you don&#8217;t hit your weight off of a pitcher you&#8217;re doing pretty bad,&#8221; he <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppMRNWFfb4k">joked</a>.
His career was central to Rose&#8217;s life; he once said, &#8220;I&#8217;m just like everybody else. I have two arms, two legs and four-thousand hits.&#8221; He also said, &#8220;Willie Mays could throw better, and Hank Aaron could hit more home runs. But I&#8217;ve got enthusiasm. I&#8217;ve got desire. I&#8217;ve got hustle. Those are God-given talents, too.&#8221;
The Cincinnati-native and all-time MLB hits leader was banned from the sport in 1989 for gambling while he was a manager of the Reds.
The lifetime baseball ban also kept Rose — who won three World Series titles during his career — from being inducted into baseball&#8217;s Hall of Fame, something that has been the subject of contention for years among baseball fans.
Later in life, Rose said his one regret in life was betting on the games.
“There’s only one thing I would change if I had to live it all over again … I would obviously turn my life around and not bet on baseball,” Rose <a href="https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/2024/09/30/pete-rose-mlb-hits-leader-obituary/2808469001/">told the Cincinnati Enquirer</a>. “Having said that, I feel like I’ve been a pretty good citizen.”
“You never read about me being in a bar after hours, beating up my wife, or getting into a fight with a fan and I was as gracious to everyone as I could be,&#8221; he added.

Legendary country music singer/songwriter and Hollywood star <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kris Kristofferson</a> passed away “peacefully” at his home in Maui on Saturday, his family confirmed. He was 88.

The news was confirmed by her sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, who shared a statement with <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgk7375ngkxo">BBC</a> on Friday morning. 
&#8220;She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27th September,&#8221; the statement said.
&#8220;An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,&#8221; it continued.
&#8220;We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and unstinting kindness during her final days. We thank you for all your kind messages and support and ask that you respect our privacy at this time.&#8221;
Smith was born in England in 1934. She made her acting debut in 1952 playing Viola in “Twelfth Night,” then moved to film for a role in “Child in the House” (1956).
The actress had a career spanning more than 60 years and had appeared in more than 50 films, per <a href="https://people.com/maggie-smith-dies-at-89-harry-potter-downton-abbey-star-8719438">People</a>. Over that time, she won two Academy Awards for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” (1969) and “California Suite” (1978) and had four additional Oscar nominations. Smith also collected other accolades, winning four Golden Globes, five BAFTAs, a Tony, and was nominated for six Laurence Olivier Awards.

She spoke of reaching higher levels of fame than she felt comfortable with, thanks to her role in the hit BBC series. “It’s ridiculous,” she said during a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=detAlTL9sbM">conversation</a> with Mark Lawson in 2017. “I led a perfectly normal life until ‘Downton Abbey.’ I’d go to theaters, I’d go to galleries, and things like that on my own. And now I can’t. And that’s, you know, awful.” 
The star married actor Robert Stephens in 1967 and got divorced in 1975. They had two sons. She married playwright Beverley Cross in 1975 and was with him until he died in 1998, the outlet noted.

&#8220;Because my mother was Elvis Presley’s daughter, she was constantly talked about, argued over and dissected,” Riley explained.

The actress said in order to finish her mom’s memoir, she listened to hours and hours of memories her mom had recorded on tapes of her life as the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, her romantic relationships, motherhood to Riley and her brother Benjamin, who died in 2020 at the age of 27, and later as a grandma to Keough’s daughter, Tupelo.

“I hope that in an extraordinary circumstance, people relate to a very human experience of love, heartbreak, loss, addiction and family,” she added of the book. “[My mom] wanted to write a book in the hopes that someone could read her story and relate to her, to know that they’re not alone in the world. Her hope with this book was just human connection. So that’s mine.”
Priscilla confirmed Lisa Marie’s death on January 12, hours after she was rushed to a hospital, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lisa-marie-presley-daughter-of-elvis-presley-dead-at-54">reported</a>.
“My beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” a statement from her mother read. “She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

‘Incredibly Painful’: Lisa Marie Presley’s Daughter Talks Finishing Mom’s Memoir

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Officer David Lee, 44, was assisting with a car crash on Sunday morning when he was struck by another vehicle and killed.
The driver of the other vehicle, 24-year-old Ramon A. Chavez-Rodriguez, had entered the U.S. illegally and was drunk when he allegedly struck and killed Lee, KMOV <a href="https://www.firstalert4.com/2024/09/23/suspect-charged-st-louis-officers-death/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. On Monday, Chavez-Rodriguez was charged with DWI, death of law enforcement or emergency personnel, exceeding the posted speed limit, and operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license.
Chavez-Rodriguez, from Honduras, was allegedly driving at least 71 miles per hour just seconds before the crash – on a road with a posted speed limit of 55 mph, according to charging documents obtained by KMOV. Chavez-Rodriguez allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to the rainy conditions, struck Officer Lee, and pinned him between two vehicles before throwing him several feet, KSDK <a href="https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/crime/officer-david-lee-killed-charges-driver/63-36b44d6c-1f4b-4935-a2f3-8caf29486c9c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Chavez-Rodriguez was taken to the hospital, and his blood was drawn two hours after the crash, showing his blood alcohol level at that time was still 0.10, meaning it was likely even higher when he allegedly struck Lee.
“My heart breaks for the family, friends, and colleagues of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Officer David Lee, who was tragically killed by an individual who was in this country illegally,” Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said. “This devastating loss serves as a harsh reminder of the real consequences of a broken system that fails to protect our communities. I am praying for Officer Lee’s family, friends, and the entire police department during this unimaginable time. We must honor his service by ensuring justice and security for all.”
At the time of the crash, Chavez-Rodriguez was already on probation for domestic assault and DWI in St. Charles County.

“I&#8217;m gonna miss him dearly, because he was the yin to my yang, my best friend,&#8221; his wife, Tonya, told the outlet. “He was my partner, my other half. One half of my heart, and I&#8217;m the other half of his heart.”
Lee’s son, Khalil, told the outlet that his father loved his family, his job, and basketball.
&#8220;He was somebody who I could talk to about anything,&#8221; Khalil said. “He&#8217;s the reason why I chose to go to school for criminal justice and do what I&#8217;m doing now.”
Tonya said the night before Lee was killed, they had prayed together as usual, and when they were lying in bed together, he said something she’d never forget.
“It was weird,&#8221; she told KSDK. &#8220;He laid beside me in the bed, and he put his hand on my thigh, and he said, &#8216;Thank you for everything.&#8217; And I said, Oh, Bae, thank you for everything. He said, &#8216;No, seriously, thank you for everything.&#8217; And I didn&#8217;t know this was my husband saying bye to me.”

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/music">recording artist</a>’s sons TJ, Taj, and Taryll posted an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_929Mbuhsu/?img_index=1">update</a> about his passing on Instagram. 
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us,” the post said. “We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”
The post continued, “Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as ‘Coach Tito’ or some know him as ‘Poppa T.’ Nevertheless, he will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you Pops.”
Jackson <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/16/us/tito-jackson-dead.html">reportedly</a> had a heart attack while driving to Oklahoma, where he had recently moved.
Jackson was a founding member of the Jackson 5, along with brothers Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael. The singing family was internationally known in the late 1960s and 1970s. Some of their most popular songs included “ABC,” “I Want You Back,” and “The Love You Save.”

Tito Jackson was nominated for three Grammys. In 1997, he was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Jackson 5.
Jackson married Delores &#8220;Dee Dee&#8221; Martes at the age of 18 in 1972. The couple had three sons and divorced in 1988. He is survived by his children, who make up the R&amp;B/pop group 3T, and nine grandchildren.
The recording artist has been touring with members of his band, The Jacksons, including brothers Jackie and Marlon. Earlier this week, Tito was in Munich, Germany, and said he had &#8220;visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our beloved brother, Michael Jackson.”

Legendary star James Earl Jones, known for voicing “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader in the franchise and his parts in movies like “Field of Dreams,” has died. He was 93.
On Monday, the actor’s representative with the Independent Artist Group confirmed to <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/09/james-earl-jones-dead-1236082801/">Deadline</a> magazine that Jones had passed away at his home in Dutchess County, NY. A cause of death has yet to be announced at the time of publication.
Born in 1931 on a farm in in Arkabutla, Mississippi, Jones is widely regarded for his work on stage and screen, becoming one of the rare EGOT winners after taking home two Primetime Emmys, a Grammy Award, an Honorary Oscar, and three Tony Awards during his career, the outlet noted.

Columbus Blue Jackets star winger Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and his 29-year-old brother Matthew died in an &#8220;unimaginable tragedy&#8221; on Thursday night when they were struck by a vehicle while cycling in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
Johnny, an 11-year NHL veteran, and Matthew, a former minor league hockey player, were hit from behind by the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee, who police suspect was under the influence of alcohol, ESPN <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/41053342/blue-jackets-winger-johnny-gaudreau-brother-matthew-die" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Police said the driver of the Jeep was attempting to pass a vehicle on the right that had moved over to make room for the Gaudreau brothers. The driver, Sean M. Higgins, has been charged with two counts of death by auto.

Both brothers played collegiate hockey for Boston College. Johnny led the Eagles to a national championship in 2012, and in 2014, he won the award for the top college hockey player in the country. Johnny was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. He played nine seasons in Calgary before signing with Columbus before the 2022-2023 season. Johnny was an All-Star in 2023. Matthew most recently played for the Worcester Railers in the ECHL in the 2021-2022 season.
