<p>Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer took a shot at New York&#8217;s political leaders over the weekend for the state&#8217;s high taxes, saying that he wants the next team that he plays for to be in a state with a much friendlier tax code.</p>
<p>Sports Illustrated <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/02/27/jordan-poyer-next-team-state-taxes-bills" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explained</a> that part of Poyer&#8217;s frustration with New York&#8217;s high taxes is the fact that his career in the NFL only recently exploded, despite being over 30. As a result of his recent success, the $5.6 million he earned in 2022 was more than he earned the three previous years combined.</p>
<p>&#8220;A lot of people ask me, ‘Oh, if it wasn’t Buffalo, where would you go?’ I kind of ponder the question every once in a while,&#8221; Poyer <a href="https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/02/26/jordan-poyer-on-free-agency-i-would-love-a-state-that-doesnt-take-half-my-money/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on his podcast. &#8220;I would love to go to a state that doesn’t take half my money. It’s crazy to me how taxes work. Some people will say, ‘You’re already making X amount of money.’ Taxes play a big part in all of our lives &#8230; If it wasn’t Buffalo, it’d be nice to be warm. It would be nice to see the sun, maybe, every week or so, every other week at least.”</p>
<p>Poyer said that he definitely wants to keep playing now that he enters free agency after spending six seasons with the Bills.</p>
<p>“I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Poyer said. “I’d be happy to have an opportunity to play anywhere. I’ve been playing 10 years. I know how to play this game. I know how to prepare for this game. This offseason already has started off great, getting my body right. I feel really good right now. And I’m excited about the next opportunity. I don’t know how it’s going to play out or how it’s going to work out. What’s going to make sense is going to make sense.”</p>

<p>A doctor with the NFL Players Association on Wednesday guaranteed Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin would &#8220;play professional football again&#8221; after suffering a cardiac arrest during a game last month.</p>
<p>Dr. Thom Mayer, medical director of the NFL Players Association, said <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/damar-hamlin">Hamlin&#8217;s</a> prognosis looks very positive after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-nfl-game-suspended-after-player-collapses-on-field-cpr-given">collapsed</a> on the field against the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2. Emergency personnel administered CPR before he was transported to a hospital.</p>

The game was suspended and then ultimately canceled. Medical professionals administered CPR on the field, and Hamlin was whisked off in an ambulance some 16 minutes after the collapse. The athlete was treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was sedated while in critical condition.</p>

<p>Hamlin was eventually <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/breaking-damar-hamlin-discharged-from-hospital/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transferred</a> to a hospital in Buffalo, before being released to recover at home. Bills head coach Sean McDermott <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/damar-hamlin-making-almost-daily-trips-to-buffalo-bills-practice-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> last week that Hamlin had been at the practice facility “almost daily” and is “just trying to get back to a little bit of a routine.”</p>
<p>“That’s good news,” McDermott <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/damar-hamlin-making-almost-daily-trips-to-buffalo-bills-practice-facility">told</a> the press. “He comes in and really just started — really today or yesterday — and just trying to get back to a little bit of a routine and getting himself acclimated again and taking it one step, you know, baby step at a time here.”</p>
<p>It&#8217;s unclear when Hamlin will return to the field, though it certainly won&#8217;t be this season. The Bills took a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, 27-10.</p>

<p>Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin is reportedly making great strides in his recovery — just weeks after a scary moment on the field during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals.</p>
<p><a href="https://dailywire.com/news/god-using-me-in-a-different-way-damar-hamlin-shares-game-day-message-for-his-team/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hamlin</a> underwent cardiac arrest and received CPR on the field, after which he was rushed to a nearby hospital. The game was first paused, then postponed — and then the NFL announced that the game would not be rescheduled but the playoffs would go on as planned.</p>
<p>The safety was <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/breaking-damar-hamlin-discharged-from-hospital/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transferred</a> to a hospital in Buffalo about a week later, and then released to recover at home — but Bills head coach Sean McDermott says that Hamlin has been at the practice facility &#8220;almost daily&#8221; and is &#8220;just trying to get back to a little bit of a routine.&#8221;</p>

<p>Doctors said NFL player Damar Hamlin set &#8220;every alarm off in the [Intensive Care Unit] ICU&#8221; when his teammate Nyheim Hines ran back the opening kickoff for a 96-yard touchdown on Sunday.</p>
<p>The physicians at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center gave an update to the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOtfCpg7gvE">press</a> on Monday about what happened in that room while <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/damar-hamlin">Hamlin</a> was <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/buffalo-bills-return-kick-off-with-96-yard-touchdown-while-damar-hamlin-watches-from-hospital-bed/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">watching the game</a> between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots. It comes at the 15:08 minute mark.</p>
<p>&#8220;We have permission from him [Hamlin] and his family to let you know that he did watch the game on Sunday,&#8221; one of the doctors at the UC Medical Center shared.</p>
<p>&#8220;He was beyond excited,&#8221; the doctor added. &#8220;And feels very supported the outpouring of love from across the league. And especially from the Buffalo area.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;He watched the game yesterday when the opening kickoff was run back [for a touchdown] he jumped up and down, got out of his chair,&#8221; the doctor continued. &#8220;Set, I think, every alarm off in the ICU in the process.&#8221;</p>

<p>The physician assured the press the NFL player was &#8220;fine&#8221; despite all the alarms, noting that it was an &#8220;appropriate reaction&#8221; to the very exciting play in the game that gave Buffalo the lead which they basically maintained until the end, beating the Patriots 35-23.</p>
<p>Ahead of the game, the Bills&#8217; player tweeted a photo showing him hooked up machines and IV&#8217;s in his hospital room ready to root on his team.</p>

<p>Earlier in the press conference on Monday, doctors announced that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-nfl-game-suspended-after-player-collapses-on-field-cpr-given">Hamlin</a> was being released to go home to Buffalo after he underwent a cardiac arrest during the first part of the game a week ago between Buffalo and the Cincinnati Bengals.</p>

<p>Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was released from the hospital on Monday following a week-long stay after he went into cardiac arrest during last week&#8217;s Monday Night Football game.</p>
<p>Hamlin collapsed with about six minutes left in the first quarter of the game against Cincinnati after he tackled Bengals receiver Tee Higgins following a 13-yard catch. After the tackle, Hamlin stood up, took a step backward, and fell to the ground.</p>
<p>&#8220;Damar Hamlin has been discharged from the hospital and is returning home to Buffalo, per the physicians at the University of Cincinnati Health,&#8221; said Adam Schefter, ESPN&#8217;s senior NFL insider.</p>

<p>Dr. Timothy A. Pritts and Dr. William Knight at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center provided an update on Hamlin&#8217;s condition Monday afternoon.</p>
<p>&#8220;We shared last time that we were with you that our ultimate goal was to get Damar back home to his amazing family and the broader Buffalo family,&#8221; Knight said. &#8220;Well, Dr. Pritts and I are thrilled and proud on behalf of UC to report to you that Damar Hamlin has been released and returned to Buffalo.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I traveled with him to the airport this morning with our UC Health, air care and mobile care crew, including teammates who are with us on the field when Damar Hamlin collapsed,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;He landed safely and as standard as anybody who has gone through what he&#8217;s gone through this past week, and certainly after flying on a plane, he is going to be observed and monitored to ensure that there&#8217;s no impact from the flight on his condition or on his lungs. <p>Recovering Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin shared a game day message for his team — just hours before they were set to play the New England Patriots in their first game since his terrifying injury.</p>
<p>Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after a tackle during last Monday&#8217;s game at the Cincinnati Bengals, scaring players and fans alike when first responders performed CPR on the field before rushing Hamlin to a nearby hospital.</p>
<p>But in the days since, Hamlin has reportedly made remarkable progress — and by Sunday morning, he was tweeting messages to his teammates.</p>
<p>The Buffalo Bills changed its Twitter photo to a number three in Hamlin&#8217;s honor. The team shared video of quarterback Josh Allen sporting Hamlin&#8217;s number on a blue baseball cap and a white sweatshirt as he walked by, giving a thumbs-up to the camera.</p>

Damar Hamlin Shares Game Day Message For His Team

<p style="font-weight: 400;">Tee Higgins, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver who collided with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin before Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field, made his first public comments regarding Hamlin.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The two men had known each other personally before, having attended Tyler Boyd’s annual football camp near Pittsburgh, <a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35386879/tee-higgins-feels-better-communicating-damar-hamlin-mom">ESPN</a> noted.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Obviously it’s been hard, just because you know I had something to do with the play [and] whatnot,” Higgins said, according to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nfl/bengals-higgins-im-in-a-good-place-right-now/2023/01/05/15a445ca-8d3c-11ed-b86a-2e3a77336b8e_story.html">The Washington Post</a>.  “Everyone has been making me feel whole again. I talked to his mom and everything is OK, he’s doing good, so I’m in a good place right now.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“And suddenly she’s telling me that he’s OK. And just all the positive stuff,” he continued. “I mean it feels good just knowing that he’s OK, he’s doing better, and it makes me feel better inside.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The play before Hamlin collapsed came in the first quarter of the game Monday night, as Hamlin collapsed after tackling Higgins at the tail end of a 13-yard completion. Hamlin initially stood up, then collapsed. Higgins, who had not seen Hamlin stand up, initially thought Hamlin had flopped, then realized what was happening.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Me being a football player, I’m thinking he just flopped, one of my guys bumped him,” Higgins recalled. “I just seen the fall. I looked again, and I seen what happened, and I just turned my head and trying not to think about it. So I knew it was something crazy and something tragic.”</p>

I hope that he got some relief today. I saw some stuff on Twitter. And people should not be attacking him whatsoever. And I&#8217;m glad that Damar&#8217;s family came out and said that. And hopefully, he found some relief today. Because that&#8217;s a football play. And I hope that he doesn&#8217;t hold that upon himself because there&#8217;s nothing else that he could have done in that situation.&#8221;</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills released a statement on Hamlin’s progress, stating, “Per the physicians caring for Damar Hamlin at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Damar has shown remarkable improvement over the past 24 hours. While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal, and he is making steady progress.”</p>

<p>Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin&#8217;s family provided another update about his condition after he underwent cardiac arrest during a Monday night game, saying, &#8220;things are moving in the right direction.&#8221;</p>
<p>Jordon Rooney, Hamlin&#8217;s marketing representative, told the <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/bills-safety-damar-hamlin-remains-in-critical-condition">NFL Network</a> on Wednesday that the family insists no one blame Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins for the incident. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/buffalo-bills-give-new-update-on-damar-hamlins-health-status">Hamlin</a> collapsed on the field after tackling Higgins during the game on Monday. Emergency personnel administered CPR before he was transported to a hospital.</p>
<p>&#8220;Right now things are moving in a positive direction,&#8221; Rooney shared. &#8220;The doctors, what they were looking to see, I think they saw that. I can&#8217;t speak specifically on it, but things are moving in the right direction.&#8221;</p>

<p>He also responded to accounts that Hamlin had to be resuscitated not once, but twice.</p>
<p>&#8220;There was some reports last night that he was resuscitated twice,&#8221; Rooney said. &#8220;So we wanted to clarify &#8230; he was only resuscitated once. Outside of that, things have just been moving in the right direction.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s not clarity at this point in terms of how long it&#8217;s going to be &#8230; So for the family it&#8217;s just a matter of seeing more positive signs and hopefully keep building on that,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Rooney also addressed some responses directed at Higgins.</p>
<p>&#8220;Damar&#8217;s parents were a little bit frustrated that Tee was receiving any sort of negative backlash,&#8221; the player&#8217;s rep shared. &#8220;This was a regular football play. He reached out. He&#8217;s been supportive of Damar&#8217;s family. So the family doesn&#8217;t want any negative backlash towards Tee at all.&#8221;</p>
<p>On Tuesday, Hamlin’s family released a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/damar-hamlins-family-releases-statement-following-cardiac-arrest-during-game">statement</a> expressing their &#8220;sincere gratitude&#8221; for &#8220;the love and support shown.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country,&#8221; the statement shared.</p>
<p>&#8220;We also want to acknowledge the dedicated first responders and healthcare professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who have provided exceptional care to Damar,&#8221; the statement added. &#8220;We feel so blessed to be a part of the Buffalo Bills organization and to have their support. We also want to thank Coach Taylor and the Bengals for everything they&#8217;ve done.&#8221;</p>
