NFL Team’s $2B Stadium Mocked For Obstructed Field Views

Social media is having a field day mocking the design of the new $2.1 billion Buffalo Bills stadium after photos of obstructed views from multiple seats went viral.

The team replaced the old Highmark Stadium and built a new one across the street, and no expense was spared for the venue — except, it appears, the cost of commonsense designers.

Some seats are blocked by panes of glass, including at the 50-yard-line. There are seats in the upper deck that can’t see the end zone. Expensive lower level seats are obstructed by a standing platform that juts out past the line of vision. 

“Whoever designed the new Bills stadium … wasn’t very keen to detail. Imagine paying tens of thousands on PSLs and season tickets and walk into a view like this…” one person said in a popular X post.

Fans attended the team’s first practice in the new stadium over the weekend, which is what led to the backlash. There are currently 17,000 Personal Seat License holders who have one or more seats, per Bleacher Report. 

A rep for the Bills said that the team has heard from “less than one percent” of the Personal Seat License account holders about obstructed-view concerns and will handle them on a “case-by-case basis,” according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

Florio also said the obstructed-view seats would not be sold for football games, but would rather be used for other events such as concerts. 

As the tension grew, the Bills released a statement that seemingly addressed the issue.

“Thank you to Bills Mafia for setting a new attendance record with more than 50,000 fans at the Return of the Blue & Red,” a statement from the team said. 

“Saturday’s practice was a great opportunity to test the new stadium. We are currently addressing internal and external feedback regarding the facility’s operation following the first event. We’ll utilize the next six weeks to refine any details as we prepare for the home opener on Thursday, September 17.”
