<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The UK-based cosmetics brand Lush Cosmetics is all in for trans rights. But some window art at a local store has drawn the ire of breast cancer survivors, who say glorifying voluntary “gender affirming” mastectomies is just wrong.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The photo was posted earlier this month on the Facebook page “</span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/chelmsfordforyou"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chelmsford for You</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">,” which is dedicated to the historic city about 30 miles north of London. It was one of several store murals meant to celebrate Pride month ahead of the Essex Pride celebration on June 20. Among the expected rainbows, however, the Lush mural stood out. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It features a tiger with the signature trans flag inspired pink and baby blue stripes, plus pink mastectomy scars. It includes text that says, “Proud of my stripes.” The Facebook account noted that the design was created by queer artist <a href="https://www.instagram.com/your_pal_bucky/">Bucky Ringsell</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The responses online were very negative.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Ugh. This is DISGUSTING,” one reaction said. “Teenage girls love to shop in your stores and here you are happily encouraging them to CUT OFF THEIR HEALTHY BREASTS in the name of trans pride. This is beyond repulsive. It&#8217;s dangerous and sick. No parent should allow their child near your stores.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Several breast cancer survivors also weighed in on the transgender propaganda masquerading as “art.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“As a woman who had half a breast removed last year due to cancer, I am writing to raise my concerns about your ‘Proud of My Stripes’ window display,” London-based journalist Janet Murray <a href="https://x.com/jan_murray/status/2066140253430161807">wrote</a> in an open letter to Chelmsford city council.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I am also, on behalf of other women who have experienced breast cancer, respectfully requesting its removal,” the post continued. “Because mastectomies are not a fashion statement, an identity marker or something to be celebrated. They are something women undergo because they are ill, because they are frightened, because they are trying to stay alive.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Murray said she’s not anti-trans and that it’s a “personal choice,” but says she still takes offense to the window display.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think I speak for many women who have experienced breast cancer &#8211; and for their families &#8211; when I say this: Breast removal surgery is not something I regard as cute, playful or empowering,” she added. “Nor is it something I believe retailers should be celebrating.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She concluded by demanding that the mural be removed, a sentiment echoed by several others.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Ditto. This is an insult to millions of women who lost their breasts to cancer,” former professional tennis player Martina Navratilova </span><a href="https://x.com/martina/status/2066168892502761819?s=43"><span style="font-weight: 400;">wrote</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in response to Murray’s letter. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lush Cosmetics has a history of fervent LGBT activism. Last fall, the company partnered with the activist group TransActual to create a 24-page illustrated book titled “Dream vs. Reality: creating a world where trans people are safe.” The company also released a pink, blue, and white “Liberation bath bomb” to raise money for trans causes. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A <a href="https://weare.lush.com/press-releases/lush-partners-with-trans-led-groups-to-stand-up-for-trans-rights/">statement</a> at the time said, “This campaign comes from the heart of the business. Requested by our staff and led by our incredible campaign partners, it comes at a time where positive trans representation is needed to counterpoint some of the toxic narratives that have been shaping public discourse. We hope that the vision presented in this campaign becomes reality and helps to shape a world we can all be proud of.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lush Cosmetics did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment on backlash over the image.</span></p>

<p>Vanessa Trump shared an update Saturday on her cancer treatment and what the next steps down that road would be for her.</p>
<p>Trump, who announced her breast cancer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vanessa-trump-reveals-breast-cancer-diagnosis">diagnosis</a> publicly on May 20, said in a Saturday morning <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DZh9jmATYMZ/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==">Instagram post</a> that she&#8217;d spent the last several weeks recovering from surgery and was preparing for the next phase of treatment.</p>
<p>&#8220;I wanted to share an update on my cancer journey,&#8221; she began. &#8220;Over the past four weeks, I&#8217;ve been recovering from surgery and I&#8217;m grateful to be healing and moving forward. Soon, I&#8217;ll be starting the second stage of my treatment. Sending love, strength, and hope to everyone fighting this battle.&#8221;</p>
<p>Trump, who has five children from her previous marriage to Donald Trump Jr., did not give any further details about the surgery or what the next step in her treatment might be, although she had briefly mentioned a &#8220;procedure&#8221; when she first shared her diagnosis.</p>
<p>&#8220;I am staying focused and hopeful while surrounded by the love and support of my family, my kids, and those closest to me,” she wrote at the time, adding, &#8220;I kindly ask for privacy as I focus on my health and recovery.&#8221;</p>
<p>Ivanka Trump, her former sister-in-law, showed her support in a statement saying, &#8220;Praying for your continued strength and a swift recovery. Love you mama.&#8221;</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;">A new large-scale <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-03408-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a> tested how artificial intelligence (AI) could improve the detection of breast cancer, and the results showed a notable increase in the percentage of cancers detected.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The study from the University of Lübeck in Germany involved 463,094 women between the ages of 50-69 who were tested for breast cancer between July 2021 and February 2023. The scans were independently examined by two radiologists, but for 260,739 of the women, one of the radiologists used AI for help.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Radiologists in the AI-supported screening group achieved a breast cancer detection rate of 6.7 per 1,000, which was 17.6% higher than and statistically superior to the rate achieved in the control group,” the study stated. “The AI system used was Vara MG (from the German company Vara), a CE-certified medical device designed to display mammograms (viewer software) and preclassify screening examinations to assist radiologists in their reporting routine.”</p>

<p style="font-weight: 400;"> “We could improve the detection rate without increasing the harm for the women taking part in breast cancer screening,” co-author Professor Alexander Katalinic <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2025/jan/07/more-breast-cancer-cases-found-when-ai-used-in-screenings-study-finds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “In our study, we had a higher detection rate without having a higher rate of false positives. This is a better result, with the same harm.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The study pointed out that using AI could significantly reduce the workload for radiologists, stating, “Furthermore, the programs generate substantial volumes of mammograms, which, in many programs (including the German mammography screening program), require interpretation by two independent radiologists; a consensus conference or arbitration may also be necessary to achieve high sensitivity and specificity. Thus, the radiologists’ work involves the repetitive task of interpreting hundreds of images per week, most of which have no signs of breast cancer. This approach heavily relies on human expertise, yet screening programs are experiencing a lack of radiologists. &#8230; Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into breast cancer screening workflows could alleviate some of the problems that screening programs face.”</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">“Here in the UK, there is specific interest in whether use of AI plus a single radiologist can safely replace reading by two radiologists. The sooner this is researched definitively the better,” Stephen Duffy, emeritus professor of cancer screening at Queen Mary University of London, noted.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways,&#8221; Macpherson </span><a href="https://www.womensweekly.com.au/news/elle-macpherson-now/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">told</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> The Australian Women&#8217;s Weekly of being diagnosed with breast cancer. &#8220;And it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me… I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite the model’s doctor recommending a mastectomy with chemotherapy, radiation, and hormone therapy, Macpherson opted for &#8220;an intuitive, heart-led, holistic approach” instead, which earned her mixed reactions from family members.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it,” she told the outlet. “And that’s what I did. So, it was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I chose a holistic approach. Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. But saying no to my own inner sense would have been even harder,” she wrote in her book.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The model also talked about how in her opinion, not everyone should take the same approach to cancer treatment. “Sometimes an authentic choice from the heart makes no sense to others … but it doesn’t have to. People thought I was crazy but I knew I had to make a choice that truly resonated with  me. To me, that meant addressing emotional as well as physical factors associated with breast cancer. It  was time for deep, inner reflection. And that took courage.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Her sons Flynn and Cy, who were 19 and 14 at the time, had different reactions, as did the boys’ father and her former partner Arki Busson.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Macpherson wrote in the book, “Cy simply thought that chemo kills you. And so he never wanted me to do it because he thought that was a kiss of death. Flynn, being more conventional, wasn’t comfortable with my choice at all. He is my son, though, and would support me through anything and love me through my choices, even if he didn’t agree with them. My children were extremely supportive in their different ways but I knew they felt very scared.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Arki was really supportive,” she continued. “He didn’t agree with what I was doing … Yet he wrote to me to tell me how proud he was of the courage I was showing. Of course he was scared because I’d decided not to take a conventional pharmaceutical route. He considered that extreme.  I, on the other hand, felt the chemo and surgery route was extreme.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Australian-born star also shared an update on her current health. &#8220;In traditional terms, they’d say I’m in clinical remission, but I would say I’m in utter wellness. And I am!&#8221; she said.</span></p>

Her publicist Leslie Sloane shared the update, per <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/obituaries/shannen-doherty-star-beverly-hills-90210-charmed-dies-53-rcna88376">NBC News</a>. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Sloane wrote.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and later went into remission following treatment. She shared a post on Instagram in June 2023 detailing how the cancer had spread to her brain.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“On January 5th, my scan showed (metastasis) in my brain,” she posted at the time. “My fear is obvious. I am extremely claustrophobic and there was a lot going on in my life,” Doherty continued. “But that fear…. The turmoil….. the timing of it all…. This is what cancer can look like.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actress scored a major role in 1982 when she was cast as Laura Ingalls Wilder’s adopted daughter on the popular TV series “Little House on the Prairie.” She was 10 years old at the time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This role led to others, including Maggie Malene in “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (1985), Kris Witherspoon in the series “Our House” (1986–1988), and Heather Duke in the teen comedy-drama “Heathers” (1989). Doherty was next cast in her breakout role on “Beverly Hills, 90210.” She became a superstar for her portrayal of Brenda Walsh as the drama became a national sensation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Doherty had a tumultuous love life, marrying and divorcing three different men over the years. She had no children.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While her recent remarks about funeral planning were more lighthearted, the “Charmed” star spoke late last year about not being ready to die yet</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>

<p>Doherty laughed a bit as she compared fighting the disease to a &#8220;Pac-Man video game,&#8221; saying that she and her doctors had found a &#8220;good regimen&#8221; and she was taking things &#8220;day by day, month by month, year by year.&#8221;</p>
<p>The actress has been battling breast cancer since 2015 — and after undergoing chemotherapy and a double mastectomy, she announced in 2017 that the disease was in remission. She revealed that the cancer had returned in 2019 — this time at Stage 4 — and had metastasized.</p>
<p>&#8220;When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’ and then ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?,’ that leads you to look for the bigger purpose in life,&#8221; the &#8220;Charmed&#8221; star told PEOPLE, adding, &#8220;It’s insane to me [that] we still don’t have a cure.&#8221;</p>
<p>Doherty has been very open about her journey, her fears, and the treatment she has gone through — and has shared much of the process publicly on Instagram.</p>

<p>Supermodel Linda Evangelista revealed in a recent interview that she has battled and overcome not one but two breast cancer diagnoses over the last few years.</p>
<p>The 58-year-old <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/09/05/linda-evangelista-reveals-she-had-breast-cancer-twice-in-5-years/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canadian fashion model</a> told the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/style/fashion/linda-evangelista-steven-meisel-32909b7b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a> that after she was diagnosed in 2018 with cancer she told her doctor to take off both breasts because &#8220;breast cancer was not going to kill&#8221; her.</p>
<p>&#8220;It was detected in my annual mammogram,&#8221; Evangelista said. &#8220;The margins were not good, and due to other health factors, without hesitation, because I wanted to put everything behind me and not to have to deal with this, I opted for a bilateral mastectomy.&#8221;</p>

<p>So she underwent the surgery and thought she would be &#8220;good and set for life.&#8221;</p>
<p>However, in 2022 she found a lump on her breast, had it checked out, and discovered it was cancerous. Evangelista said after the second diagnosis she told her doctor, &#8220;Dig a hole in my chest.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t want it to look pretty. I want you to excavate,&#8221; the model recalled telling her doctor. &#8220;I want to see a hole in my chest when you&#8217;re done. Do you understand me? I&#8217;m not dying from this.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I just went into this mode that I know how to do — just do what you&#8217;ve got to do and get through it,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;And that&#8217;s what I did.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now she said the prognosis is &#8220;good,&#8221; but she wouldn&#8217;t say it was &#8220;great&#8221; and explained that she received a &#8220;horrible oncotype score,&#8221; which represents the likelihood of the cancer returning, the outlet noted.</p>

<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve come through some horrible health issues,&#8221; the model said. &#8220;I&#8217;m at a place where I&#8217;m so happy celebrating my book, my life. I&#8217;m so happy to be alive. Anything that comes now is bonus.&#8221;</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 63-year-old royal family member said fighting cancer has helped her “wake up” and embrace who she really is, regardless of outside opinions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s the last thing that the queen said to me: ‘Just be yourself, Sarah,&#8217;” Ferguson said. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“And she saw it,” the Duchess of York continued. “She just got so annoyed when I wasn’t being myself. And that’s probably when I got into all the pickles. But now I am myself, and I’m just so lucky to be able to be myself.”</span></p>

<p>&#8220;Today&#8221; show contributor Jill Martin opened up about her battle with breast cancer and how her recovery is going after she underwent a double mastectomy weeks after being <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/jill-martin-returns-today-says-191231081.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">diagnosed</a> in mid-July.</p>
<p>The 47-year-old lifestyle contributor on the morning show said she&#8217;s doing &#8220;okay&#8221; physically after the surgery while noting that emotionally she&#8217;s been on a &#8220;roller coaster,&#8221; calling the last six weeks &#8220;earth-shattering.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I had an aggressive tumor removed, and my surgeon, Dr. Elisa Port, removed 18 lymph nodes, one of which was cancerous,&#8221; Martin wrote in a <a href="https://www.today.com/health/jill-martin-double-mastectomy-surgery-update-rcna98163" target="_blank" rel="noopener">personal essay</a>.</p>
<p>&#8220;They actually test the nodes in real time, so I found out the results of the biopsy when I woke up from the four-hour surgery,&#8221; she added. &#8220;There is always a small possibility that cancerous cells could have escaped, so the rest of the meeting was dedicated to planning out my long road ahead, and what the doctor suggests I do to prevent this insidious disease from coming back.&#8221;</p>

<p>The NBC morning show contributor also thanked those who have shared their support after she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, which she said was not detected from those annual checkups but instead from genetic testing. She tested positive for the BRCA2 gene, the gene linked to a significantly higher possibility of developing ovarian or breast cancer, <a href="https://people.com/jill-martin-breast-cancer-double-mastectomy-health-update-7570463" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a> noted.</p>
<p>&#8220;I received so many DMs, texts, emails, and calls,&#8221; Martin wrote. &#8220;Strangers came up to me on the street saying, &#8220;&#8216;Can I please add you to my prayer list?&#8217; or, &#8216;I am going to get tested because of your story.&#8217; I didn&#8217;t realize how important genetic testing was on both the mother and the father’s side of the family.&#8221;</p>
<p>She talked about how the hardest thing has been watching her family &#8220;Watch me go through this. It shakes a family and a household. The past three weeks have felt like a lifetime.&#8221;</p>
<p>Martin said this week she will meet with her doctor to learn what&#8217;s next in this process. She said she already knows she will have a full hysterectomy to &#8220;decrease the risk of ovarian cancer&#8221; due to &#8220;fibroid issues in the past&#8221; and said she&#8217;ll have to &#8220;take anti-hormonal drugs for 5 years.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I will most likely need chemotherapy because of the aggressiveness of the tumor,&#8221; Martin wrote. &#8220;That is the part that hit me the hardest — the idea of chemo.&#8221;</p>
<p>The host admitted that she&#8217;s &#8220;still in a state of shock&#8221; because everything has happened so fast, but she&#8217;s &#8220;choosing to fight.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Cancer has knocked me down. It has,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I used to jump out of bed every day to begin work, but now every day is a choice. Do I feel like staying under the covers and crying? Yes. Every day. But I did that when I first started recovery &#8230; and little by little, like today, I am choosing to get up. I am choosing to fight.&#8221;</p>

<p class="p1">A new report <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/12/health/us-cancer-deaths-decline-wellness/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cancer</a> death rate in the United States has gone down 33% since 1991, even as some concerns remain over rises in other cancers.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">The report, <a href="https://acsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.3322/caac.21763" target="_blank" rel="noopener">published</a> in the CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians on Thursday, said that even though the pandemic happened, and was different from other top mortality causes, the death rate from cancer kept going down from 2019 to 2020. This assisted in a comprehensive drop of 33% since 1991, and around 3.8 million deaths avoided by estimation.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">However, not all <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/health" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cancer</a> rates went down. The prostate cancer rate went up 3% per year from 2014 to 2019 after it had been going down for twenty years. Breast and uterine corpus cancers also went up. Early discovery can help with all of these cancers, the report stated.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">“There’s a significant call to arms,” Karen Knudsen, the American Cancer Society&#8217;s chief executive officer, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-cancer-death-rate-has-dropped-by-a-third-since-1991-11673535327" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Wall Street Journal. “We are not catching these cancers early when we have an opportunity to cure men of prostate cancer.”</p>
<p class="p1">As the Journal pointed out, the report noted that prostate cancer rates went down from 2007 to 2014 by around 40% because of lower &#8220;localized tumors&#8221; diagnoses that were caught due to PSA testing. The United States Preventive Services Task Force said men 75 years old and up shouldn’t be screened in 2008 – and in 2012, they said all men shouldn’t be screened. But, as the report noted, prostate cancer rates have gone up each year from 2014 to 2019. The increase is being pushed by more <a href="https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/diagnosis-staging/staging#:~:text=Localized%E2%80%94Cancer%20is%20limited%20to,distant%20parts%20of%20the%20body." target="_blank" rel="noopener">later-stage</a> diagnoses that have gone up around 4.5% each year, starting in 2011.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">According to the Premier Medical Group, the National Cancer Institute <a href="https://www.premiermedicalhv.com/news/confronting-a-controversy-the-psa-question/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CUsing%20the%20PSA%20test%20to,diagnostic%20tests%20and%20cancer%20treatments." target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span class="s1">said</span></a> that PSA testing could essentially lead to overdiagnosis, causing men to go through remedies that they don’t need that could be harmful to them.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p class="p1">In 2018, the task force <a href="https://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/uspstf/announcements/final-recommendation-statement-screening-prostate-cancer" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span class="s1">said</span></a> that men between the ages of 55 to 69 should talk to their doctor about possible risks and upsides and make their own choice about whether they should be screened.</p>
<p class="p1">Death rates from prostate cancer are around two to four times higher for black men than they are for other racial and ethnic demographics.</p>
<p class="p1">“We’re seeing some of the consequences of diminished screening,” Dr. Jonathan Shoag, who has analyzed prostate cancer PSA testing, said, per the Journal. “We’re not detecting cancers we don’t want to know about, but the cancers that we’re finding are worse cancers.”</p>
<p class="p1">Cervical cancer rates have also gone down 65% in the years of 2012 through 2019 for young women, who were the first group to get the human papillomavirus vaccine.</p>
