Federal authorities have arrested a leftist Democratic <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-boston-city-councilwomans-rhetoric-is-so-vitriolic-that-it-disturbs-democratic-colleagues-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">city councilwoman</a> in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boston" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston</a> after being accused of defrauding the city and giving kickbacks to a family member on her staff. 
Tania Fernandes Anderson, who immigrated to the U.S. illegally from Cape Verde, was <a href="https://www.bostonherald.com/2024/12/06/boston-city-councilor-arrested-by-feds-on-corruption-charges/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> by the Justice Department with five counts of wire fraud and one count of stealing federal funds, including a charge for providing a $13,000 bonus to an unnamed relative she employed at city hall. The two allegedly shared the money.
&#8220;The charges stem from an alleged kickback scheme she orchestrated to obtain several thousand dollars in taxpayer money in exchange for bribes paid,&#8221; <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/boston-city-councilor-tania-fernandes-anderson-arrest/3570143/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy on Friday. 
The indictment alleged that at the time of the illegal activity, Fernandes Anderson was “facing personal financial difficulty,” including missing rent and car payments and a civil penalty from her previous ethics violation, in which she was fined for hiring her sister and son.
Prosecutors say that Fernandes Anderson hatched a scheme to hire a family member and pay them a $13,000 bonus. An email included in the indictment shows her falsely claiming to a Boston official that the staffer was not related to her. Investigators said Fernandes Anderson took $7,000 in cash during a drop in a city hall bathroom.
&#8220;On or about June 9, 2023, at approximately 4:11 p.m., Staff Member A texted Fernandes Anderson, ‘Bathroom’ to let Fernandes Anderson know that Staff Member A was waiting in the bathroom to hand the $7,000 cash to Fernandes Anderson,&#8221; the indictment said. &#8220;Within seconds, Fernandes Anderson texted Staff Member A, ‘Ready&#8217; to confirm that Fernandes Anderson was ready to accept the $7,000 cash kickback from Staff Member A.”
&#8220;When they met in that bathroom, Ms. Fernandes Anderson put $7,000 in her pocket,&#8221; Levy said. &#8220;All of that money was funded by the taxpayers of Boston.&#8221;
The indictment also accused Fernandes Anderson of embezzling money from a federal grant program meant for the city of Boston. 
On Wednesday, after news broke that she may have been under investigation, Fernandes Anderson <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/boston-city-councilor-tania-fernandes-anderson-reacts-to-reported-federal-probe/3567998/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> she couldn’t comment on the allegations. 
&#8220;To my people, District 7 constituents: You know that I am always transparent with you and always available. My job is to show up and fight for you, and I will continue to do just that&#8211;the people&#8217;s work,&#8221; the city councilor said. &#8220;Unfortunately, I am not able to comment on this matter at this time. As soon as I can, I will be sure to share more with you.&#8221;

Fernandes Anderson, who was elected in 2021, has become known for her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-boston-city-councilwomans-rhetoric-is-so-vitriolic-that-it-disturbs-democratic-colleagues-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">racially charged rhetoric</a> and calls for “a revolution” to combat “systemic racism.” 
“I can’t even call you cowards because desperation deserves mercy. Your votes here sometimes are racist … I am here to represent every black woman and man in the community … What the f*** do I have to do in this f***ing council to get respect as a black woman,” Fernandes Anderson said to fellow council members during a meeting in August 2023.
She was set to appear before a federal judge Friday afternoon.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu reaffirmed her refusal to fully cooperate with the Trump administration’s planned deportations — the same day two illegal immigrants were charged with raping children in Massachusetts.
In response to criticism from incoming Trump border czar Tom Homan, Wu — who had previously said she would maintain Boston’s “sanctuary city” status in defiance of the Trump administration, said Wednesday said she had “no intention of rolling out the welcome mat” for the president-elect and his team.
“They can say whatever they want about me, but our public safety record speaks for itself: Boston is the safest major city in America,” the mayor said. “Our homicide rates are among the lowest of any city nationally, and gun violence has been at an all-time historic low over the last two years here in Boston”
The same day, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s field office in Boston announced it arrested two illegal immigrants for forcibly raping children inclding 42-year-old <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ero-boston-arrests-colombian-national-charged-rape-massachusetts-minor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Billy Erney Buitrago-Bustos</a> of Columbia and 21-year-old Mynor Stiven De Paz-Munoz of Guatamala.
An additional migrant, who <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ero-boston-arrests-brazilian-international-fugitive-convicted-rape-child" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was convicted</a> of raping a child in Brazil and sentenced to serve 14 years in prison before fleeing to the United States, was also arrested on Thursday.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-gov-refuses-to-help-deportations-as-ice-busts-alleged-illegal-alien-child-rapists-in-her-state" target="_blank" rel="noopener">also said</a> she would not assist with federal efforts to deport illegal aliens. Trump’s support in Boston has grown since 2016, when he secured just 14.1% of the vote. Though Boston is still Democrat-dominated, Trump secured 20.4% in November.
Wu first commented on Trump’s deportation plan on November 17th, when she told a <a href="https://www.wcvb.com/article/boston-mayor-michelle-wu-goes-on-the-record-about-leading-a-sanctuary-city/62921765" target="_blank" rel="noopener">local news channel</a> she would not cooperate with deportation efforts, citing the fact that Boston was a sanctuary city.
“Elections have consequences, and the federal government is responsible for a certain set of actions, and cities — no individual city can reverse or override some parts of that,” Wu said. “But what we can do is make sure that we are doing our part to protect our residents in every possible way; that we are not cooperating with those efforts that actually threaten the safety of everyone by causing widespread fear and having large-scale economic impacts.”
Wu stated that under the 2014 Boston Trust Act, the city will not cooperate with resources or personnel on civil immigration detainers unless there is serious criminal activity involved.

When asked if Boston is struggling with the migrant crisis, Wu responded that “resources are stretched,” adding that shelters have been at capacity because of “newly-arrived residents.”
Boston’s struggle with the migrant crisis made <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/migrants-now-sleeping-at-airports-in-two-major-u-s-cities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">national headlines</a> when migrants used a terminal in Boston Logan Airport as a shelter.
Wu added that she is worried about residents who will “retreat into the shadows” and not use city services like schools or call 911 because they fear being deported.
Homan responded to Wu in an interview with Newsmax on Monday, questioning her intelligence and stating that she should either help or “get the hell out of the way,”
“She’s not very smart, I’ll give her that,” Homan said. “President Trump’s going to prioritize public safety threats. What mayor or governor doesn’t want public safety threats out of their communities? That’s your number one responsibility, to protect your communities, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.”

“So she helps us or she gets the hell out of the way because we’re going to do it,” he added. “They can not cooperate, but there are certain laws in place that they can’t cross. And I hope she doesn’t cross it.”
Homan pointed to Title 8, United States Code 1324 III, which states that it is against federal law to harbor or conceal an illegal immigrant from a law enforcement officer.
Homan also went after Wu and her mentor, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), in a Monday post on X, where he accused them of driving illegals into their state. He added that Massachusetts would be a “huge focal point when it comes to mass deportations.”

When I was 22-years-old, I packed up my life in Poland and moved to the United States to pursue my dreams by attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I didn’t know exactly what my future would hold, but I knew music would be a big part of it. 
Little did I know that my future would also include a sweet baby boy and an encounter with a pregnancy resource center that would change my life for the better.
I found out I was expecting a baby during my last semester at Berklee. Even though we decided to start a family, the father of the child was sometimes silent and would become distant. Then, he would come back into the picture again. I started to experience many serious issues in my relationship with the father of my baby, so I ended up in need of support from family and friends. 
Finally, I decided we shouldn’t be together, but I didn’t realize the consequences of refusing to be with my baby’s father would be so huge and would have so much impact on my financial situation.
Thankfully, when I was seven months pregnant, a friend connected me with Boston Center for Pregnancy Choices (BCPC), a pregnancy resource center that provides free resources and support for pregnant women in need. At the time, I was living in Woburn, MA, with an electric scooter as my only form of transportation. My job helped make ends meet, but I couldn’t afford a car. In order to get to the center, I had to take a train, a bus, and then the subway. While it was a long journey, I was determined to find support for my baby and me.
I was exhausted when I finally walked through the center doors, but the warmth from the BCPC staff energized me and made me hopeful for the months ahead.
BCPC explained the three options available to pregnant women. Despite always having my mind made up to raise my child with or without the father, it was helpful to understand all the options and resources that were available.
Unbeknownst to me, while I was visiting the center, a local pastor decided to donate a car to BCPC and was looking for a deserving candidate. Both the center and the pastor agreed that I would be the perfect recipient.
For me, receiving that car was life changing. It allowed me to go where I wanted and do what I needed in order to better provide for myself and my child. For the first time, I did not have to depend on anyone else for reliable transportation. While it may have just been a car to others, it was a whole new world of freedom and endless possibilities for me.
A few months later, I gave birth to my beautiful son Nathaniel and continued to receive support from BCPC. The staff regularly visited us and provided everything that a new mother would need. I received a new rocking chair, diapers, wipes, clothes and various other baby supplies at no cost. The donated car continued to help with my transition to motherhood by allowing me to drive Nathaniel to doctor appointments and daycare.
The women at the center did not owe me anything, but out of the kindness of their hearts, they gave my child and me unconditional love and support. No matter what challenges I experienced, BCPC was there for Nathaniel and me. BCPC’s support gave me the confidence, knowledge, and freedom to make my own decisions for both me and my child.
Nathaniel is now almost a year old, and we have since moved to Nashville so I could pursue my dream of being a songwriter — something that never would have happened without my own car and the generosity of BCPC.
My life is currently full of music, just as I had planned. But it now has the added bonus of also including a beautiful baby boy and a group of supportive women at BCPC who are like family to me.
I am grateful that centers like BCPC exist, and I believe that our government officials should put more effort into making society aware of the existence of these centers and how much they can help people like me and other mothers.

A mistrial was declared in the case of Karen Read, a Massachusetts woman accused of killing her police officer boyfriend, after a jury failed to agree on a verdict.
Read, 44, maintained that she did not kill her boyfriend, but that he was killed by fellow Boston police officers who then framed her. A jury couldn’t come to a conclusion one way or the other after five days of deliberation, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/karen-read-boston-police-murder-trial-abc6d1ea75a39d00b731ee4e76676d3a" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, so Judge Beverly Cannone declared a mistrial.
Prosecutors have said they intend to retry the case.
John O’Keefe was a Boston police officer who lived in Canton, MA, since 2014 to raise his niece and nephew, who had been orphaned after O’Keefe’s sister died of a brain tumor and her husband died of a heart attack shortly after. Read, an adjunct professor at Bentley University, lived in Mansfield, MA, but had been dating O’Keefe since 2020 and regularly staying in Canton to help O’Keefe with the children, Boston Magazine <a href="https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2023/09/27/canton-karen-read/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
On January 28, 2022, Read and O’Keefe <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/karen-read-is-on-trial-for-allegedly-killing-her-cop-boyfriend-but-is-she-being-framed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">traveled</a> to the Waterfall Bar &amp; Grille in Canton after drinking at another pub. At the Waterfall, O’Keefe saw some of his friends and joined them with Read in tow. Chris Albert, O’Keefe’s neighbor and the town selectman, along with Chris’ brother Brian, another Boston Police Department officer, and Jennifer McCabe, Brian’s sister-in-law.
The five chatted and drank until midnight, when the bar was about to close and Brian suggested they all go to his house. O’Keefe wanted to go, but Read was tired and tipsy and unsure about continuing the party. She agreed to at least drive O’Keefe to Brian’s house. After dropping him off, she decided to go home, but said that she woke up alone at 4:30 a.m. and worried about where her boyfriend was. She didn’t have McCabe’s number, so she woke up O’Keefe’s then 14-year-old niece to ask her to call McCabe’s daughter, with whom she was friends. McCabe said she didn’t know where O’Keefe was, and called Chris Albert’s wife to see if O’Keefe had passed out at their house, but she said he hadn’t. At the same time, Read called O’Keefe’s friend Kerry Roberts, who also had not seen O’Keefe.
Read, McCabe, and Roberts met up to look for O’Keefe, with Read in the backseat of Roberts’ car screaming about how O’Keefe was missing, Boston Magazine reported. A blizzard had rolled through town the night before, and it was still snowing as the women drove in the darkness.
They drove to Brian Albert’s home, and Read immediately said she saw O’Keefe and jumped out of the car to rush to his side, even though it was completely dark outside. O’Keefe was lying in the snow, ice-cold, and Read began performing CPR. He had blood on his face and two black eyes, while his hat and shoes were missing. McCabe brought blankets to warm him up and called 911. It was 6:04 a.m.
Read cried and repeatedly asked if she had hit O’Keefe. An ambulance took O’Keefe to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m.
Read was soon arrested and taken to jail, charged with manslaughter for allegedly hitting O’Keefe with her Lexus when she dropped him off at Brian’s house. The original charges stemmed from the belief that Read accidentally hit O’Keefe with her car.
But four months later, the charges were increased to second-degree murder. Part of the change came from the allegation that Read admitted to hitting O’Keefe on the morning she found him, which was overheard by first responders and police.
Read <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/karen-read-denies-killing-boston-police-officer-john/story?id=102165997" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> ABC News last year, however, that she was questioning whether she could have hit him by accident.
“I said, ‘I hit him’? It was preceded by a ‘Did,’ and preceded by a question mark,” she said. “What I thought could have happened was that, did I incapacitate him unwittingly, somehow, and then in his drunkenness [he] passed out?”
Read’s attorney, David Yannetti, reviewed the charging documents with her and questioned whether Read really could have caused all the injuries to O’Keefe just by backing into him with her car. A medical examiner found that O’Keefe had abrasions on his right arm, two black eyes, along with cuts on his face, and a laceration to the back of his head, CNN <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/10/us/john-okeefe-boston-police-death-cec/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. He also had several skull fractures.
Police found red and clear bits of plastic near O’Keefe’s body, consistent with Read’s broken taillight. When police seized the vehicle, they found damage to the right rear tailgate.
This information led police to believe Read was intoxicated and backed into O’Keefe before driving away.
Soon, a tipster called Read’s attorney, Yannetti, and claimed that O’Keefe was “beaten up by Brian Albert and his nephew.”
“They broke his nose, and when O’Keefe didn’t come to, Brian and a federal agent dumped his body on the front lawn,” the tipster added, Yannetti told Boston Magazine.
An attorney for that tipster, however, denied Yannetti’s version of the tip to the outlet.
After this call, Yannetti and Read began looking into whether O’Keefe could have been killed at the party and left out in the cold to die. Read then learned that the lead detective on the case, State Trooper Michael Proctor, was friends with the Albert family.
Read already believed O’Keefe was actually beaten up at the party, but now she believed Proctor was helping to frame her, including an alleged period where Proctor had access to Read’s vehicle and may have planted evidence.
Read hired another attorney – famous criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson, who had once represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.
With Jackson’s help, the defense’s theory was able to sway enough jurors to question whether she was actually guilty.

Read, according to court documents reviewed by Boston Magazine, said that she spent the next three days traumatized at her parents’ house, even asking her doctor for prescription sleep medication. She hired attorney David Yannetti and cooperated with police when they questioned her about the night O’Keefe died.
Read then returned to her home in Mansfield and was soon arrested and taken to jail. She was charged with manslaughter for allegedly hitting O’Keefe with her Lexus when she dropped him off at Brian’s house. The original charges stemmed from the belief that Read accidentally hit O’Keefe with her car. 
But four months later, the charges were increased to second-degree murder. Part of the change came from the allegation that Read admitted to hitting O’Keefe on the morning she found him, which was overheard by first responders and police.

Read <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/karen-read-denies-killing-boston-police-officer-john/story?id=102165997" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> ABC News last year, however, that she was questioning whether she could have hit him by accident.
“I said, ‘I hit him’? It was preceded by a ‘Did,’ and preceded by a question mark,” she said. “What I thought could have happened was that, did I incapacitate him unwittingly, somehow, and then in his drunkenness [he] passed out?”
Read’s attorney, Yannetti, reviewed the charging documents with her and questioned whether Read really could have caused all the injuries to O’Keefe just by backing into him with her car. A medical examiner found that O’Keefe had abrasions on his right arm, two black eyes, along with cuts on his face and a laceration to the back of his head, CNN <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2023/12/10/us/john-okeefe-boston-police-death-cec/index.html">reported</a>. He also had several skull fractures.
The charging documents also contained interviews with McCabe and Roberts. McCabe told police that Read had told her she had gotten into a fight with O’Keefe at the Waterfall and didn’t remember driving him to Brian’s house. Roberts said Read told her she was so drunk she didn’t remember the night before. Roberts also told police that O’Keefe showed her and McCabe her cracked taillight and said she didn’t know how that happened.
Police found red and clear bits of plastic near O’Keefe’s body, consistent with Read’s broken taillight. When police seized the vehicle, they found damage to the right rear tailgate.
This information led police to believe Read was intoxicated and backed into O’Keefe before driving away.
Soon, a tipster called Read’s attorney, Yannetti, and claimed that O’Keefe was “beaten up by Brian Albert and his nephew.”
“They broke his nose, and when O’Keefe didn’t come to, Brian and a federal agent dumped his body on the front lawn,” the tipster added, Yannetti told Boston Magazine.
An attorney for that tipster, however, denied Yannetti’s version of the tip to the outlet.
After this call, Yannetti and Read began looking into whether O’Keefe could have been killed at the party and left out in the cold to die.
Read believed that Brian’s nephew, Colin, could have been behind the attack, since, she told Boston Magazine, he and O’Keefe were in a feud dating back a couple years.
Then Read saw the photos of O’Keefe’s body and believed it looked like he had been beaten up and possibly even attacked by a dog. Brian Albert’s family had a German Shepherd.
Read then learned that the lead detective on the case, State Trooper Michael Proctor, was friends with the Albert family.
Read already believed O’Keefe was actually beaten up at the party, but now she believed Proctor was helping to frame her, including an alleged period where Proctor had access to Read’s vehicle and may have planted evidence.
Read hired another attorney – famous criminal defense attorney Alan Jackson, who had once represented Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.
Once Jackson joined the defense, they learned that Brian had gotten rid of his dog and sold his house after O’Keefe’s death. Months later, they found that McCabe had Googled “hos [sic] long to die in cold” at 2:27 a.m. – hours before she, Roberts, and Read found O’Keefe’s body. She made the same search again at 6:23 a.m. and 6:24 a.m. Roberts told police that Read asked her to make the searches.
A massive campaign began to support Read, reportedly dividing the town among those who believed she was innocent and those who believed she was guilty.

In September of last year, the prosecution requested Read’s cellphone data, data they had been denied because it contained privileged communications with her attorney. The Prosecution argued that the cellphone could explain why Read’s arrival back at O’Keefe’s house wasn’t captured on his Ring camera system, or explain how surveillance footage showed Read driving toward the Waterfall bar at 5:11 a.m. and then away from it at 5:15 a.m. That surveillance data further showed Read driving toward Brian Albert’s house before going to McCabe’s home in the morning, leading to questions that she had already looked for and found O’Keefe’s body before going to McCabe’s.
But the prosecution also has other evidence that pokes holes in the idea that Read was framed, Boston Magazine reported. For starters, the “framed” concept relies on a feud between O’Keefe and Brian Albert’s nephew Colin, but sources told Boston Magazine that the issue that led to the alleged feud that Read pointed too actually involved O’Keefe and a different teenager, and that he never had any issue with Colin.
As for the Alberts getting rid of their dog and selling their home, a source told the outlet that Brian got rid of the dog after it fought with another dog, and that they had contacted a real estate agent to sell his house before O’Keefe died.
The idea that Proctor planted evidence in Read’s car also has issues. The district attorney says the time discrepancy in police reports was just an error and was corrected in later reports and filings. These reports, and the DA, show that Proctor was never alone with Read’s car, according to Boston Magazine.
Further, microscopic pieces of Read’s taillight were found on O’Keefe’s shirt, and the timestamp on McCabe’s Google search can be explained by a technicality. McCabe made the search on a search bar of a tab that was opened at 2:27 a.m., which is why it appeared she made the search before she ever heard from Read.
A medical examiner also testified to a grand jury that the injuries from O’Keefe weren’t from a fight and that data from Read’s car showed that it had reversed at high speed before striking O’Keefe, continuing to reverse, and then leaving.
O’Keefe’s niece also told police that Read’s story about her night changed multiple times the morning she went to look for O’Keefe. Read also reportedly told Proctor that she dropped O’Keefe off but never saw him enter the house, but she told Boston Magazine that she saw him enter the house and waited for him to tell her it was okay for her to join his friends. When she didn’t hear from him, she left.
The prosecution has also argued that evidence from O’Keefe’s phone showed Read called him around 50 times the night he died and left him angry voicemails telling him she hated him. It also appears that the “federal agent” referred to by the tipster who originally started the framing theory may have had a romantic relationship with Read.
Nevertheless, there is a federal investigation into whether there was a police cover-up in the case, <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/04/09/metro/karen-read-federal-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to The Boston Globe</a>.
Sources told the New York Post that the FBI had interviewed everyone at Brian Albert’s house that fateful night, and that at least one said O’Keefe had been there. If that person is correct, it could corroborate Read’s story.
Even with everything known in the case, the prosecution has said it has evidence that has not been released yet, and will only be revealed during the trial. That evidence could sway the jury toward finding Read guilty, but only time will tell.

Some people were outraged when at a Boston, Massachusetts, Episcopal church hosting an Easter vigil emceed by a drag queen, the Episcopal bishop of the church jokingly <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/04/25/us-news/boston-episcopal-bishop-alan-gates-rips-collar-off-female-cleric-during-easter-vigil/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">removed the collar</a> of a female reverend who forgot where she was during the eucharistic prayer.
Bishop Alan M. Gates removed the collar from the neck of Rev. Tamara Tucker, the priest for The Crossing, which <a href="https://www.thecrossingboston.org/">states</a> it is a ministry “providing a welcoming worship space for LGBTQIA+ folks” at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul on March 30.
“Very simply, we’re going to allow somebody to take their own piece of bread, the small piece of bread, and you will say to the person taking the bread,” Tucker said, then paused before continuing, “Wait, what is it, I’ve been gone for a while,” as the congregation laughed.
“The Body of Christ,” she continued. “It’s very simple, the Body of Christ, that’s it, that’s all you got to do. And then when they take the cup, you’ll pass it to them the Love of Christ, or the Blood of Christ, whichever is more comfortable to you. Can we do that? If I can do that after three months, I think we can. We got this.”
At that point, Gates walked over and removed the white, plastic insert as the congregation laughed. After a moment, he quipped, “Just kidding,” and handed her back the collar.

Some people were offended; “It was just really sad that an occasion that is supposed to be joyous had to be marked by the specter of long-term misogyny that is pretty essential to Christianity, even in a church that feels like it has advanced past that,” Rev. Rita Powell, the chaplain for the Harvard Episcopal Community, <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2024/04/24/metro/episcopal-bishop-apology-female-clergy-collar/?event=event12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told the Boston Globe</a>.
&#8220;I know Bishop Gates didn’t think of it that way in his intention,” Powell added.
Gates ultimately released an <a href="https://www.diomass.org/news/diocesan-news/statement-apology-bishop-gates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">apology</a>, writing:

Dear colleagues and siblings in Christ,
I write to share my remorse and deep apology for an action by which I have caused deep pain and hurt. &#8230; In an instant of altogether misguided mischief, I reached out and removed Rev. Tamra’s clerical collar. It was a devastating and demeaning act, which I regret with all my heart.
The Rev. Tamra Tucker is a valued colleague and fine priest whose leadership it has been my honor to affirm. It was not and would never be my intent to humiliate Rev. Tamra; however, that was precisely the impact of my action. Furthermore, that hurt has extended to The Crossing community, whose pastor I disrespected, as well as others who were present or have subsequently learned of this incident and its impact. By my action I misused my authority, failed to extend episcopal grace, and transgressed personal space and boundaries. I am deeply sorry.
I extend my remorse and apology to the Rev. Tamra Tucker; to the Crossing community; to the Cathedral community; to other communities present; to ecumenical companions who had joined us at the Vigil; and to those in the wider church and community whom I have hurt.
In our baptismal covenant we pledge to “respect the dignity of every human being.” I seek forgiveness for my failure to keep this pledge, and God’s grace to renew that commitment.

It’s never a good time to be a baby who’s been exposed to drugs. But the brilliant antiracist minds at Mass General Brigham have somehow found a way to make that situation even more risky. Early this month, the Massachusetts healthcare network announced its latest gambit in the fight against racial disparity in medicine: no longer reporting instances of abuse in cases of fetal drug exposure.
The rationale for this baffling new policy? The DEI-rich language of ‘health equity.’ As per Mass General’s <a href="https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsroom/press-releases/updating-system-policies-perinatal-testing">announcement</a>, “Black pregnant people are more likely to be drug tested and to be reported to child welfare systems than white pregnant people.” The decision was further portrayed as “the latest step in our efforts to address long-standing inequities in substance use disorder care.” But will it?
As the <a href="https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsroom/press-releases/updating-system-policies-perinatal-testing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">updated policy</a> reads:
<blockquote>First, the new policy requires written consent for toxicology testing of any pregnant individual or infant outside of emergent situations. At the same time, it limits toxicology testing to circumstances where results will change the medical management of the pregnant person or infant.
The policy also notes that an abuse/neglect report to state child welfare agencies in Massachusetts and New Hampshire after delivery should be filed only if there is reasonable cause to believe that the infant is suffering or at imminent risk of suffering physical or emotional injury and that ‘substance exposure’ alone, including treatment with methadone or buprenorphine for opioid use disorder, does not require a report of abuse or neglect in the absence of protective concerns for the infant.</blockquote>
Under Brigham’s no-report policies, black babies exposed to drugs can be passed over for potentially life-saving care if their mothers refuse help. How is erecting new barriers to treatment for these children a step toward any serious concept of justice?
As psychiatrist Sally Satel <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/mass-general-brigham-antiracism-maternity">notes</a>, the new policy would reduce not only the amount of reporting involved in the Boston system, but strip healthcare providers of the ability to meaningfully intervene in cases where a baby’s health appears compromised.
This is hardly the first time Brigham’s chosen to mix racial politicking with its patient care. The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as part of its United Against Racism campaign, <a href="https://www.brighamandwomens.org/about-bwh/newsroom/addressing-heart-admission-disparities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recently introduced</a> a program where patient admissions to cardiac units would weigh the race of the patient, as a supposed ‘righting of the scale’ against historic health disparities.
Let’s be clear here: these practices, while perhaps palatable to the modern advocates of equity, cannot be conscionable to modern advocates of justice. Brigham has made its stand: prioritizing marginalized patient populations in a bid to right historical wrongs. Yet the obvious problem remains: Such policies attempt to right historical wrongs by risking modern ones.
The system may purport to advance ‘health equity,’ but it runs a real risk of hurting innocent children. We must evaluate these systems based on what they do, not merely on what they purport to do. To do otherwise is to adopt an uncritical perspective on equity that cedes legitimacy to unserious and dangerous solutions.
We are sometimes asked, in the name of charity and good faith, to pretend that arguments over DEI and equity-based policies are low-stakes questions. We’re told that the real diversity argument is between “validating the feelings and lived experience of people of color” or “propping up white supremacy with our complicit silence.” I’ve <a href="https://rlo.acton.org/archives/124960-the-strange-death-of-dei.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">written</a> <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2023/12/14/willour-dei-oklahoma-universities-nikole-hannah-jones-racism/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/3-things-my-future-children-need-to-know-about-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">length</a> about how this isn’t the case, but the actions and results of the DEI movement speak far louder than its critics’ most pointed words.
For a further example, let’s take a closer look at Brigham’s cardiology policy. Brigham alerted physicians when a black or “Latinx” patient presented with heart failure to “educate the clinician about the fact that, historically, this population has had inequitable access to specialized cardiology care and offer a recommendation to consider changing admission.” It’s not an override of a clinician’s judgment or even a treatment prescription, meaning that it’s actually a relatively impotent policy in the aggregate. By any modern standard of DEI, it doesn’t even qualify as intersectional. But that’s actually the point — the policies that work aren’t the ones being dreamed up for ‘health equity’ brownie points.
Intersectionality, particularly in medicine, only works at the most basic level: the differentiation of the individual patient. The only morally serious option is for healthcare providers to evaluate patients based on individual history and symptoms — and avoid the kind of DEI-esque language of ‘health equity’ that makes observers and patients alike start raising questions about what forces are actually driving the boat over at Mass General Brigham.
That practical and rhetorical vision isn’t what modern DEI proponents want you to sign up for. Accepting their view of equity, in this case, means systems that risk passing over treatment for innocent children. Is that equity? It’s certainly not equality, it’s certainly not justice, and it’s not what anyone really wants for the future of American healthcare: we can’t validate people’s lived experiences if they die as babies in a maternity ward.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/immigration-and-customs-enforcement-ice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Immigration and Customs Enforcement&#8217;s</a> (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested an illegal alien in Boston who is wanted for murder in the Dominican Republic.
The federal agents arrested the 27-year-old alleged fentanyl trafficker near his residence in Saugus on March 21, ICE said in a statement on Tuesday.
&#8220;The unlawfully present Dominican citizen is currently facing local fentanyl trafficking charges and was previously arrested for strangulation and assault and battery charges,&#8221; the statement said.
ICE did not release the suspect&#8217;s name and blurred out his face in a photo that was taken as he was arrested.
The suspect &#8220;became the subject of a criminal police warrant for the charge of homicide issued by a criminal court in the city of Bani in the Dominican Republic’s state of Peravia&#8221; in November 2021, ICE said.
The next month, he was charged with trafficking fentanyl in the Newburyport District Court.
He was also charged with strangulation/suffocation and assault and battery of a family household member in the West Roxbury District Court. ICE said the charges in the West Roxbury District Court were dropped.

Parents near <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/boston" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Boston</a> are becoming increasingly frustrated with the local teachers union, which has been on strike for nearly two weeks, keeping kids out of classrooms.
Public school teachers in Newton, just west of Boston, have been on an illegal strike for 1o days as of Thursday. The union, the Newton Teachers Association, is under the National Education Association.
Massachusetts law prohibits public school teachers to strike, and the union has already racked up at least $525,000 in fines.
At least two families with children in Newton schools have filed two lawsuits over the strike.
One couple who sued said their daughter has a learning disability and is suffering emotional distress from being out of the classroom.
The other lawsuit was filed by a mother who says her 10th-grader is facing some setbacks this year and that missing regular assistance in reading, writing, and math could jeopardize her chances of college acceptance. The mom also said her children have missed part of the hockey season and activities with the ski team club.
A dad of two middle and high school students <a href="https://www.wbur.org/news/2024/01/31/newton-teachers-strike-community-hopes-for-resolution" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> WBUR, &#8220;we feel like our children are suffering significant harm as a result of an illegal strike and the law is in place for a reason.&#8221; He added that he and his wife cannot stay home from work.
However, some parents have expressed support for the teachers, one mom saying she stands with the educators &#8220;ten-thousand percent.&#8221;
The teachers union is demanding more pay, smaller classes, more social workers in schools, and a 12-week parental leave policy.

On Tuesday, the school district was <a href="https://www.axios.com/local/boston/2024/02/01/newton-schools-teacher-strike-update" target="_blank" rel="noopener">offering</a> pay increase from $62,000 salaries to more than $81,000 by 2027 for some teachers. The average teacher pay in Newton is roughly $93,000, based on <a href="https://profiles.doe.mass.edu/statereport/teachersalaries.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">data</a> from the 2020 school year.
Earlier in the week, the Newton City Council called on the teachers to accept a new salary contract and end the strike.
&#8220;This strike has to end. We need to get our kids back in the classroom, and we need to do it now,&#8221; City Council President Marc Laredo <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/as-newton-schools-remain-closed-parents-express-support-opposition-to-teachers/3263929/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Tuesday at a press conference, adding that children &#8220;are suffering.&#8221;
&#8220;It makes me question whether the union really wants a deal,&#8221; Newton School Committee Chair Christopher Brezski said at a separate press conference. &#8220;It makes me question what this strike is really about. Illegal migrants are now sheltering at international airports in two major cities, first Chicago and now Boston.
One terminal at Boston Logan International Airport has turned into a temporary shelter for nearly 100 migrants now that the city&#8217;s other shelters have reached capacity. Some families <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/migrants-sleep-at-logan-airport-amid-calls-for-more-aid/3258115/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have been</a> sleeping for weeks in Terminal E, where most international flights arrive.
Photos <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12998541/chicago-boston-migrants-logan-airport-sanctuary-city.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show</a> families sleeping on the floor and on pallets, crowded by other people, blankets, and their belongings.
One woman collected hygiene items for the migrants, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/migrants-sleeping-floor-logan-airport/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">telling</a> WBZ that the migrants, many of whom have young children, do not have access to a shower, so they are given wipes to clean themselves.

Some migrants are <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/state-transportation-building-in-boston-will-house-migrant-families-as-emergency-shelter/3196822/#:~:text=The%20building%2C%20located%20at%2010,maxed%20out%20at%207%2C500%20families." target="_blank" rel="noopener">also</a> camping out in conference rooms at a transportation building in Boston. However, that space is only available at night.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, a Democrat, capped the shelter system at 7,500 families in the fall despite Massachusetts&#8217; right-to-shelter law. Now, 600 families are on a waitlist for shelter, her administration <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/migrants-sleep-at-logan-airport-amid-calls-for-more-aid/3258115/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Earlier this week, Healey and eight other Democratic governors wrote to the Biden administration and congressional leaders <a href="https://www.wbur.org/news/2024/01/23/maura-healey-governor-letters-immigration-reform" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asking</a> for more funds to handle the migrant crisis.
&#8220;We need D.C. to act. We need Congress to act,&#8221; Healey said Monday at a press conference.
Healey&#8217;s office <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/migrants-sleeping-floor-logan-airport/#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimates</a> migrants will cost the state $915 million next year. She has asked the state legislature for another $250 million to address the crisis this year, but that funding has not yet been approved.
Massachusetts State Police officers are being paid overtime to patrol the area of the airport where migrants are staying, Healey said.
&#8220;The airport has been a wonderful partner and I really want to thank the folks at the airport who are doing a wonderful job including members of the state police who are working their regular shifts but who are managing the inflow and outflow of folks from the airport,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/migrants-sleeping-floor-logan-airport/#:~:text=%22The%20airport%20has%20been%20a,told%20reporters%20at%20a%20news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Monday.
Meanwhile, however, the CEO of the airport called the migrant situation &#8220;not sustainable&#8221; back in November.
&#8220;When they come to Logan we meet them and we try to assist them, but we have to emphasize that Logan is not an appropriate place to house people,&#8221; Massport interim CEO Ed Freni <a href="https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/logan-airport-not-an-appropriate-place-for-migrants-arriving-daily-massport-ceo-says/3194521/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters.

Chicago <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/chicago-migrants-shelter-struggles-bus-arrivals/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">has had</a> hundreds of migrants sleep in O&#8217;Hare International as the city scrambles for more shelter space and builds more shelters.
The hundreds of recent arrivals, including babies and the elderly, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-airport-now-sheltering-hundreds-of-illegal-migrants-as-city-waits-on-tents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lived</a> in a shuttle bus center at the Chicago airport’s Terminal 1, where they slept on cardboard and used airport bathrooms.
Other major cities are grappling with an influx of thousands of migrants that has also overwhelmed their shelter systems, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/eric-adams-latest-response-to-flood-of-illegals-change-ruling-that-gave-them-right-to-shelter">New York City</a>, which has seen more than 160,000 migrants arrive since spring 2022.

Massachusetts Attorney General <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mayor-of-boston-equates-requiring-proof-of-vaccination-to-jim-crow-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Andrea Campbell</a> has found that Boston Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/michelle-wu" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michelle Wu</a>, a fellow Democrat, did nothing wrong holding a holiday party for public officials that excluded white people.
The AG&#8217;s office maintains that the event was not open to the public and therefore doesn&#8217;t violate the state&#8217;s public accommodation law, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/boston-mayors-party-that-excluded-white-officials-didnt-violate-law-ag" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a>.
The law specifically prohibits &#8220;making any distinction, discrimination, or restriction in admission to or treatment in a place of public accommodation based on race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, deafness, blindness, or any physical or mental disability, or ancestry.&#8221;
Notably, the office refuses to even open an investigation into the matter, despite numerous formal complaints being filed about the segregated party.
An email sent by City Council relations director Denise DosSantos revealed that the controversial party was dubbed the &#8220;Electeds of Color Holiday Party,&#8221; <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/boston-mayor-posts-picture-of-elected-officials-enjoying-christmas-party-that-excluded-white-people-calls-it-a-special-moment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported last month.
“On behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu, I cordially invite you and a guest to the Electeds of Color Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Parkman House, 33 Beacon Street,” DosSantos <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/email-invite-electeds-color-holiday-party-mistakenly-sent-all-boston-city-councilors/LRQRP3WGFNHLZC5DLCB6PPNESY/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in the email invite.
Fifteen minutes later, however, DosSantos sent out another email apologizing for sending the email to all council members, indicating that it wasn’t supposed to be sent to white members of the council.
“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding the Holiday Party for tomorrow. I did send that to everyone by accident, I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so,” she said, <a href="https://www.boston25news.com/news/local/email-invite-electeds-color-holiday-party-mistakenly-sent-all-boston-city-councilors/LRQRP3WGFNHLZC5DLCB6PPNESY/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Boston 25 News. “Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Wu, for her part, bragged about the party in a social media post. &#8220;Last night was my turn to host the annual holiday dinner for Boston’s elected officials of color—a special moment to appreciate that our affinity group now includes leadership across city, state, county, and federal offices,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C02RomqObK_/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=bf7eb472-eed6-4762-988a-a440361eff2e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">captioned</a> a photo of the event on December 14.
&#8220;Not too long ago in Boston, we didn’t need such a big table to fit electeds of color,&#8221; Wu continued. &#8220;But over my time as a City Councilor and now Mayor, following so many leaders who have paved the way, I’ve proudly watched this group grow and create space for mentorship and fellowship among many who are breaking down barriers while holding the weight of being the first or only. Throughout the year, we work to represent our communities with urgency and determination. And at the holidays, we take the time to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company!&#8221;
Facing backlash, Wu further defended the party, saying, “I can understand someone might be confused or worried if certain people weren’t being invited at all or were being left out of any type of celebration. But I assure you, everyone on the Boston City Council has got an invitation to multiple types of events and holiday parties.&#8221;
Wu has been accused of racial discrimination in the past over her comments and her administration’s policies. Last year, Wu <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/boston-democrat-mayor-sued-for-allegedly-discriminating-against-white-restaurant-owners" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was sued</a> by a group of white restaurant owners who say they were targeted for city fees in part due to their ethnic heritage.
