Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Wednesday laid out a timeline for the completion of the U.S.-Mexico border wall. 
In a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, Mullin said DHS is on track to have a primary border wall stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of America completed by &#8220;this time next year.&#8221;
“On the border wall, first of all, we are on track to have the primary wall done, completed from the Pacific to the Gulf of America this time next year. We&#8217;ll have all contracts out by the end of this month. And we&#8217;re having great progress,” Mullin said.

Mullin stressed that cartels have learned how to breach and cut sections of the border wall, forcing the need for a secondary barrier to reinforce the primary wall and deter illegal crossings. 
“So we&#8217;re putting 150 foot some places, sometimes smaller than that, for a secondary wall that they got to go over, plus a smart wall, which will tell us approximately how many people are there. If they&#8217;re carrying a pack, they&#8217;re not carrying a pack,” he added. “The smart wall is pretty, pretty impressive. We can put a drone in the sky to immediately keep eyes on them.”

Mullin predicted the agency should complete the second wall barrier by the summer of 2028. During the Biden administration, Border Patrol agents saw a daily average of 5,110 illegal migrants cross the border, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-trump-closed-the-border-in-2025">The Daily Wire previously reported.</a>
Under President Trump’s second term, illegal border crossings have fallen to historic lows, and the GOP-led &#8220;Big Beautiful Bill&#8221; unlocked funding for enhanced border security reinforcements.  
The routine hearing on Capitol Hill turned contentious when a Michigan Democratic congressman asked Mullin about the &#8220;great replacement theory.&#8221;  
&#8220;When will you stop DHS from using its social media accounts to spread bigoted and racist words and imagery, promoting great replacement theory?&#8221; Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) asked Mullin. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s interesting how you make those claims and give no facts, but yet your party&#8217;s the one that&#8217;s supporting the guy that&#8217;s got a Nazi tattoo on his chest in Maine,” the DHS chief replied. 
“I have the facts,” Thanedar insisted. 
“There [are] no facts. You throw out nationalism and Nazism, and that&#8217;s exactly what causes the hatred and violence that happens to our officers every single day, and you should be ashamed of using that,” Mullin fired back.

The Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection approved $4.5 billion for the construction of highly technical sections of the border wall.
CBP announced last week that 10 contracts were cleared in September for 230 miles for “barriers” and roughly 400 miles for “technology,” including a “Smart Wall,” which uses multiple elements to monitor and prevent people from crossing over the border illegally.
Some of the new technology includes “steel barriers, waterborne barriers, lights cameras,” and other tools to detect potential “illegal traffic,” according to CBP.
“For years, Washington talked about border security but failed to deliver. This President changed that,” CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott said in a statement. “The Smart Wall means more miles of barriers, more technology, and more capability for our agents on the ground. This is how you take control of the border.”

The 10 contracts were the first to be paid for through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which President Donald Trump signed in July. The bill included billions for border and immigration purposes, including hiring more Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and $12 billion to pay back states for costs inflicted by the Biden-era border crisis.
The funding will go to projects along the border, spanning from California to Texas. Since Trump took office in January, several other projects have been cleared through contracts or waivers to continue wall construction, which was primarily halted during the Biden administration.
CBP’s webpage on the Smart Wall explains that the overall goal is to “gain operational control of the border” by combining a mix of measures, including a “secondary” wall and other technologies based on factors such as “geographic characteristics” and “procurement timelines.”
“The Smart Wall serves as a necessary tool to protect areas between ports of entry along the Rio Grande, where crossings already constitute improper entry,” Brandy Perez, a research assistant at the Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, said.
“The Department of Homeland Security’s $4.5 billion investment in Smart Wall construction amplifies America’s inherent right as a sovereign nation to decide who legally belongs on U.S. soil and who does not,” Perez added.
“The previous Trump administration implemented barriers in regions across the Southwest border and witnessed a decline in illegal crossings by 87% in the<a href="https://www.dhs.gov/archive/news/2020/10/29/border-wall-system-deployed-effective-and-disrupting-criminals-and-smugglers?utm_source=chatgpt.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Yuma </a>sector and a 26% decrease in narcotics seizures in the Rio Grande sector, proving that walls deter foreign nationals who seek to break the laws of the United States and jeopardize public safety,” she continued.
As long-term developments at the border continue, the administration recently touted that fiscal year 2025 was the lowest for apprehensions at the southern border since 1970, and no releases of those crossing illegally in five months as of September, according to a CBP news release.
“Fiscal Year 2025 shows what happens when we enforce the law without compromise,” Scott stated at the time. “For too long, agents and officers were handcuffed by failed policies. Today they are empowered to do their jobs – and the result is the lowest apprehensions in more than five decades, and the most secure border in modern history.”

Parts of the border wall that The Daily Wire revealed were auctioned off by the Biden administration are now expected to be returned to the Trump administration to support the President’s “border protection plans.”
The Biden administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">sold off</a> portions of the border wall in Arizona for pennies on the dollar in December, just one month before Trump reentered office in a move that critics called an attempt to hamstring the new administration. Now, those materials will be handed back over to the federal government.
GovPlanet, the government supply auctioning site that listed the border wall materials, says that it will expedite the return of the materials to the federal government, citing its support for the Trump administration’s border security plans.
“GovPlanet has reached an agreement, working with the Office of the Border Czar, to return border wall materials that were previously deemed surplus and sourced by the federal government to GovPlanet via existing contracts,” the company <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/what-happened-border-wall-components-got-sold-off-under-biden">explained</a>. “We are expediting the transfer of these materials to support the administration&#8217;s border protection plans.”
The sale of the border wall materials, Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) told The Daily Wire, was an attempt by the Biden administration to hamstring the Trump administration. “The Biden Administration is well aware they shouldn’t have reversed the construction of the border wall. If it’s true, they’re purposefully hamstringing an incoming president, it wouldn’t be shocking,” Crane charged. “Why would they want to see President Trump succeed with policies they aggressively sabotaged?”
The Republican Congressman from Arizona called the sale “a direct affront to the will of the people,” who had given President Trump a mandate to secure the border just a month before The Daily Wire broke the news of the auctions.
The sale came after Biden presided over a record-breaking surge of illegal immigration into the United States.
The materials will now be handed over to a firm that has been contracted by the government to build the wall, GovPlanet says. “We value our longstanding partnership with the U.S. government and look forward to continuing to support America’s federal agencies,” GovPlanet added. “A third-party firm that has been contracted for construction of the border wall will take receipt of the materials over the next 90 days.”
GovPlanet also said that the supplies will be returned to the federal government “at-cost” in order to “protect the millions of dollars that U.S. taxpayers had already invested in this initiative.”

Illegal immigration was so dramatic under Biden that the foreign-born population surged to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/foreign-born-population-surges-to-new-high-with-illegal-immigration-driving-increase-report-finds">new high</a> of 53 million. Two-thirds of the growth of the foreign-born population during the Biden presidency is estimated to be due to illegal immigration. There are approximately <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-alien-population-surges-to-record-high-bombshell-study-finds">18.6 million illegal aliens</a> currently present in the United States, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
But the situation on the southern border changed drastically after Trump&#8217;s inauguration.
“From Jan. 21 through Jan. 31, the number of U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border dropped 85% from the same period in 2024,” the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/2025/02/illegal-border-crossings-plummeted-in-january/">pointed out</a> in a press release, citing ABC News.

The decline proved to be even more precipitous by March, when Vice President JD Vance visited the southern border and boasted of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vance-does-victory-lap-at-border-all-it-took-was-a-new-president?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=55&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Vance+Does+Victory+Lap+At+Border%3A+%E2%80%98All+It+Took+Was+A+New+President%E2%80%99">98 percent reduction</a> in border crossings.
The rapid drop in border crossings came after Trump announced and implemented sweeping changes to immigration policy. Upon taking office, Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/01/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-declares-a-national-emergency-at-the-southern-border/">declared</a> a national emergency at the southern border, ordering the Secretary of Defense to deploy troops to the border and for border wall construction to resume.
By early March, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/01/us/politics/military-border-immigration.html">roughly 9,000</a> active-duty soldiers were at the southern border.
One of Trump&#8217;s most consequential policy changes was the <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/trump-administration-reinstating-remain-mexico-program-2025-01-21/">reinstatement</a> of the Remain in Mexico policy, which requires migrants to stay in Mexico while their asylum claims are processed.
It&#8217;s a departure from the Biden administration&#8217;s catch-and-release policy, which allowed asylum seekers to enter the United States and live and work in the country while their claims are processed. Some migrants freed into the country under Biden were given court dates in <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/05/11/migrants-admitted-to-us-given-2035-immigration-court-dates/">2035.</a>
Trump also immediately <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/01/realigning-the-united-states-refugee-admissions-program/">suspended</a> the Refugee Admissions Program and halted <a href="https://cis.org/Bensman/Government-Admission-Biden-Parole-Flights-Create-Security-Vulnerabilities-US-Airports">flights of migrants</a> from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, and Ecuador, which the Biden administration used to streamline more than 300,000 migrants into the interior of the United States.
In March, the Trump administration <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-transforms-bidens-cbp-one-app-leave-now-and-self-deport">repurposed</a> an online application that the Biden administration used to bring hundreds of thousands of migrants into the interior of the country. Formerly called CBP One, the Biden administration used the app to let migrants remotely schedule asylum appointments. It has since been renamed CBP Home, and allows migrants to alert the government of their “intent to depart” the United States.
Trump’s Department of Homeland Security even launched an <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/03/15/dhs-launches-international-ad-campaign-warning-illegal-aliens-self-deport-and-stay">international advertising campaign</a> warning would-be illegal aliens not to attempt to enter the United States.
“If you are a criminal alien considering entering America illegally: Don’t even think about it. If you come here and break our laws, we will hunt you down. Criminals are not welcome in the United States,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem says in the ads, which have been broadcast on television, radio, social media, and even through targeted text messages.
The effects of Trump’s immigration policies weren’t just seen at the southern border. They&#8217;ve even been noticed by Latin American countries like Colombia, which watched as caravans of migrants traveled through it on their way to the United States.

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to issue a swath of executive orders within hours of taking the oath of office for the second time on Monday, and a number of those are aimed at getting the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border under control.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin has been reporting on the border situation as it unfolded — under the leadership of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was impeached for his role in allowing millions of illegal immigrants to flood the border — and he laid out in detail three of the expected orders.

The third order addressed the ongoing threat of criminal gangs and cartels who have sent members into the United States via the porous southern border, some of whom have since committed violent crimes.
&#8220;Order #3: Trump will designate international cartels and crime organizations like Tren de Aragua and MS-13 as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs). The order will declare these groups a national security threat and will invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to stop their operations,&#8221; Melugin stated.

The goal, Melugin explained, was to open the door for more aggressive moves to stop members of such gangs and cartels from operating within the United States.

President-elect <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> celebrated the state of Texas&#8217; win in court this week over the Biden administration that prevents President Joe Biden from selling off more materials that were purchased by the U.S. government for the border wall.
&#8220;In a major, crucial WIN for America, and our National Security, a Federal Judge in Texas, based on papers we filed just a few days ago, has PROHIBITED the Biden Administration from selling any materials designated for the Border Wall, that has been wrecked by Biden and his cronies, and which I am going to rebuild in order to protect our Country from violent migrant crime, fentanyl smuggling, sex trafficking, terror attacks, and other heinous, Nation ending disasters,&#8221; Trump wrote on social media.
Trump continued, &#8220;The Judge has also ordered an investigation into the illegal selling of the materials, which will expose just how corrupt and anti-American Radical Democrats are.&#8221;
Trump applauded the judge for &#8220;doing the right thing for our Country&#8221; and said that protecting America&#8217;s borders was vital to &#8220;Save America.&#8221;
The Daily Wire broke the story earlier this month that the Biden administration was trying to sabotage the incoming Trump administration by selling off materials at cheap prices.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the victory in a statement on Friday evening after he filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration “to uncover potential legal violations” the administration was committing by selling off the materials.
“We have successfully blocked the Biden Administration from disposing of any further border wall materials before President Trump takes office,” Paxton said. “This follows our major victory forcing Biden to build the wall, and we will hold his Administration accountable for illegally subverting our Nation’s border security until their very last day in power, especially where their actions are clearly motivated by a desire to thwart President-elect Trump’s immigration agenda.”
The Biden administration agreed to an order that prevents it from disposing of any further border wall materials over the next 30 days—allowing President Trump to use those materials as he sees fit.
The order is enforceable by the court if the administration violates it.
Paxton’s office added:
<blockquote>If it is shown that the Biden Administration disposed of border wall materials purchased with funds subject to that injunction in violation of a court order—or that the Department of Justice made misrepresentations regarding the border materials that have been auctioned off—this would constitute unethical and sanctionable conduct, and the responsible parties could be held in contempt of court.</blockquote>
Videos obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire from a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent earlier this month show unused sections of the wall being hauled away on the back of flatbed trucks from a section of the border just south of Tucson, a hotspot for illegal crossings during the Biden administration. The agent estimates that up to half a mile per day of unused border wall is being moved.
“They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points,” the border patrol agent, who was granted anonymity to speak freely, told The Daily Wire. “The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.”

Border wall materials are actively being transported away from the border this week despite calls from President-elect Donald Trump and other prominent lawmakers for it to stop, according to footage obtained by The Daily Wire. 
The video, recorded this Tuesday, shows trucks fully loaded with border wall panels departing the border. The steel bollard wall sections in the videos appear to be the same “32.91’ X 7.91’ Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout” that were being sold on GovPlanet’s online auction site, until they were removed from the website following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">The Daily Wire’s investigative report published last week.</a>
A source in the Border Patrol says that government contractors in Arizona are now picking up the wall early in the morning before the sun rises, an apparent attempt to avoid scrutiny for what Trump and others have characterized as a last-minute fire sale to undermine any future attempt to secure the border.

“The Biden administration is now moving the wall in the dead of night,” the source told The Daily Wire. “But we are always watching.”
This new development comes after Trump on Monday publicly called on President Joe Biden “to please stop selling the wall.” 
On Thursday, Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-files-amicus-brief-to-stop-bidens-border-wall-fire-sale?topStoryPosition=1">filed an amicus brief</a> in support of an injunction to stop the Biden administration from continuing the practice, as well as an investigation into the legality of its conduct. Trump said earlier this week that it’s “almost a criminal act” what is being done in the weeks before he’s set to take back the presidency. 
“It’s very expensive, and now it’s about double the price of what it would have been six years ago, and the administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar, knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up,” Trump said earlier this week.
Videos show two separate companies, DP Trucking LLC and DL Delivery, transporting the border wall material. The material leaves the Arizona border en route to Pinal Airpark, where it is gathered to be sold off in auction. 
DP Trucking is the same contractor that admitted earlier this month it was transporting the border wall materials as part of a government contract. DL Delivery is the DBA of PK Ranch LLC. It did not return The Daily Wire’s requests for comment.
It is unclear the status of the auctions. In the days following The Daily Wire’s initial report, the items up for auction vanished from the <a href="https://www.govplanet.com/jsp/s/search.ips?sm=0&amp;l2=USA-AZ&amp;k=Steel%20Bollard%20Wall%20Sections&amp;mf=1">website of GovPlanet</a>, which was holding the auction. In a phone conversation, a GovPlanet employee told The Daily Wire that the items were still up for sale, but that the listings were being updated. As of Friday afternoon, the listings were still absent from the website. 
Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ), whose district borders the Pinal Airpark, told The Daily Wire that the new video shows the Biden administration is “persisting with its betrayal.”
“Even now as this sabotage has been brought to light, the Biden administration is persisting with its betrayal,” Crane said. “Undermining President Trump will not save Biden’s shameful legacy — it will only serve to devastate American families by making it harder to secure the border.”
Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) said he’s committed to uncovering all the details about how the sale of border wall material is being carried out, but complained that it won’t fix the problem.
“We’ll be able to expose the truth in the days ahead and to be able to hold agencies accountable by getting those documents and those details,” Lankford told The Daily Wire. “But, you know, they’re still gone, and that’s the challenge. Once he sells this off, we’re going to have to buy this fencing twice.”
“Buy it the first time to be installed, where Biden then just stuck it in the desert, held it as long as he could, and then sold it off,” he said. “Then we’ll have to buy it again to do real border security.”
The Pentagon, which has not responded to inquiries about the border wall sale, has told liberal outlets such as NPR that the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act gave it the authority from Congress to sell unused border construction materials. 
But the provision the Pentagon is referring to originated with Senate Republicans, who actually wrote the legislation to stop the administration from actions such as what’s happening this month. The legislation requires the federal government to deploy the materials or transfer them to state governments who will use them for wall construction, not sell them off, according to the Senate Armed Services Committee. 
Lawyers for Trump agree. In his amicus brief calling for an injunction, Trump argues that the Pentagon has no authority to auction off wall parts to private parties. 
“That language does not mandate or authorize DoD to sell the excess border wall material at a steep discount to private parties,” the brief states.
According to a Border Patrol source who spoke with The Daily Wire, an estimated half-mile worth of wall is being transported each day, with a Christmas deadline to offload the whole supply.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has made it clear that there will be legal consequences for those involved in the sale of unused border wall sections, which he described as “a brazen abuse of power” and “theft of government resources.”
“To every official at the Department of Homeland Security, or anywhere else, who approves selling off incredibly expensive portions of the border wall for $5 a piece, you are engaged in theft of government property and you should expect the Department of Justice to investigate you and prosecute you,” Cruz said. 
On the other side of Capitol Hill, the House Freedom Caucus is <a href="https://x.com/freedomcaucus/status/1869190715651043622">pushing</a> for a rule that ensures “an amendment to stop Biden’s ongoing fire sale of border wall construction materials.”
Lankford says he has a plan to obtain all the relevant records to “expose the truth in the days ahead and to be able to hold agencies accountable.&#8221;
“What can be done is to be able to pull all the records that right now are being held by DoD, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and by DHS, to get all the records of how this happened, what happened, and to be able to expose the actors there that were trying to prevent the construction of the border wall,” Lankford said. “We’ll be able to expose the truth in the days ahead and to be able to hold agencies accountable by getting those documents and those details.”

President-elect Donald Trump has filed an amicus brief in a Texas court calling on a federal judge to &#8220;immediately stop any ongoing sale of border-barrier materials&#8221; until an investigation of the Biden administration&#8217;s conduct regarding the border wall is complete, according to a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/12/trump-amicus-border.pdf">copy of the brief</a> obtained by The Daily Wire.
The brief, written for Trump by attorney John Sauer, who is poised to be Trump&#8217;s solicitor general in his second term, cites The Daily Wire&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">exclusive report</a> on video showing the Biden administration moving large quantities of border wall material off the southern border to be sold off to private parties in an auction.
&#8220;The outgoing Biden Administration’s reported &#8216;fire sales&#8217; of border-wall materials to private parties raise grave concerns about the legality of Defendants’ conduct and their compliance with this Court’s permanent injunction in this case,&#8221; the brief writes. &#8220;The Court should order an immediate stop of all such sales and perform a searching examination of the Government’s conduct—by ordering formal discovery if necessary—to ensure compliance with the Constitution, the law, and the Court’s orders.&#8221;
The Daily Wire&#8217;s December 12 report found that the material was being hauled off by private contractors to an auction site, where bidding for entire segments of unconstructed wall started at just $5. Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-bidens-border-wall-sale-is-almost-a-criminal-act-will-seek-restraining-order">said</a> at a press conference this week that the outgoing administration &#8220;is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up.&#8221;
Steven Cheung, Trump&#8217;s top spokesman, said Trump filed the brief because of the Biden administration&#8217;s &#8220;egregious history of violating the law.&#8221;
&#8220;Any attempt by Biden officials to obstruct President Trump’s plan to build the Border Wall is unlawful, unconstitutional, and possibly criminal, as our brief argues,&#8221; Cheung said. &#8220;The Biden Administration has an egregious history of violating the law, especially in its catastrophic open-border policy, so the courts should review their actions here with particular skepticism.&#8221;

&#8220;President Trump will not be deterred from Building the Wall, securing our border, and Making America Great Again,&#8221; he added.
The amicus brief, filed in the Southern District of Texas, is in reference to cases brought by Texas and Missouri against the Biden administration regarding the sale of wall material. It argues that Trump has made clear his &#8220;support for building a system of border barriers at the southwestern border&#8221; and that &#8220;building the border wall is the clear and emphatic policy of the incoming Trump Administration.&#8221;
&#8220;Accordingly, President Trump is deeply troubled by recent reports that officials in the Biden Administration have been selling off border-wall materials at rock-bottom prices, especially during this lame-duck period,&#8221; the brief states.
&#8220;President Trump has a paramount interest in preventing any unlawful sell-off of border wall materials that may be occurring,&#8221; it says. &#8220;One of President Trump’s dominant priorities for the next four years—building the border wall—could be unlawfully hampered, delayed, or obstructed by such efforts.&#8221;

The brief also references Trump&#8217;s mandate to cut out waste, fraud, and abuse, pointing to his creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. An investigation by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) found that the Biden administration is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senator-calls-on-pentagon-to-halt-sale-of-border-wall-says-gov-recouping-just-02-of-taxpayer-cost">recouping just 0.02%</a> of the initial cost of the materials in its sale.
The brief also argues that the Biden administration&#8217;s argument in defense of the sale — that a provision in the National Defense Authorization Act passed in 2023 authorizes the sale — is wrong. The bill&#8217;s provision calls for &#8220;a plan to use, transfer, or donate to States on the southern border,&#8221; and was written by Republicans with the intent of stopping the administration from selling off border parts, according to congressional sources.
&#8220;That language does not mandate or authorize DoD to sell the excess border wall material at a steep discount to private parties,&#8221; the brief states.
The brief is in support of legal action taken earlier this week by Texas and Missouri, who also cited The Daily Wire&#8217;s reporting in their call for a permanent injunction.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said on Monday night that officials in the Biden administration who are involved in the selling off of border wall construction materials before President-elect Donald Trump takes office &#8220;should expect&#8221; to be criminally prosecuted by the Department of Justice.
Cruz&#8217;s remarks follow an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">exclusive report from The Daily Wire</a> revealing that the Biden administration is auctioning off materials that have yet to be used to construct the border wall.
&#8220;This is one of the most offensive things I&#8217;ve ever seen,&#8221; Cruz said. &#8220;Let me give you an analogy: Let&#8217;s say you&#8217;re a sheriff, you&#8217;re an elected sheriff, and you get beat. You get beaten. So there&#8217;s a new sheriff coming into office, and let&#8217;s say you have 10 squad cars that are $50,000 a piece, and on your last week in office, you decide, I&#8217;m going to sell all the squad cars for 100 bucks each, because I hate the sheriff that beat me, and I want to make sure the new sheriff has no squad cars.&#8221;

Trump made clear during his campaign that he intends to finish construction of the border wall, making use of the materials that have remained untouched at the border since President Joe Biden took office in 2021. If the material brought to the border during his first term is sold off, it will significantly delay any progress on one of Trump’s flagship campaign promises.
The government contractor, DP Trucking LLC, is transporting the pieces of the wall north on Interstate 19 to Pinal Airpark in Marana, Arizona. They will be auctioned there through GovPlanet, a surplus government equipment auction marketplace.
“They just started taking all the wall that was not used, which is still totally good and usable, and they started taking it northbound,” the agent said. “They’re pulling it all off the border.”
Harold Lambeth, the owner of the trucking company, confirmed to The Daily Wire in a phone call that his company is transporting the unused border wall sections north away from the construction sites. He said he could not disclose further information about the work.
Video of the GovPlanet auction site where the material is being taken seemingly shows endless piles of unused border wall material. Another video, taken from one of the construction sites on the border, shows DP Trucking LLC trucks passing through with the same style of unused border wall stacked up the back of their flatbeds.
The auction website shows that sales occurred as recently as December 4 for precisely the types of materials being pulled off the border. GovPlanet has online auctions set for December 11 and December 18 for more border wall material, which is listed on the company’s website as “32.91’ X 7.91’ Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout.”
The bidding for each section of wall panels is set to begin at only $5.00, according to the website.

President-elect Donald Trump tore into the Biden Administration for selling off parts of the border wall following an exclusive Daily Wire investigation, charging that it is &#8220;almost a criminal act&#8221; and also that he intends to seek a restraining order.
Trump made the statement after a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">Daily Wire investigation</a> revealed that the Biden administration was selling off portions of the border wall in public auctions, with a goal of unloading the border wall before Trump takes office in January. One Republican Senator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senator-calls-on-pentagon-to-halt-sale-of-border-wall-says-gov-recouping-just-02-of-taxpayer-cost">found</a> that the administration was recouping just 0.2% of the original cost of the wall material to taxpayers.
“The administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up,” Trump said in a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtaPcFECfVY">press conference</a>. “What they’re doing … It&#8217;s almost a criminal act. He also explained that some buyers have already purchased the border wall at three cents on the dollar before offering to sell it back to the Trump administration at hundreds of dollars a foot.
“That has nothing to do with a smooth transition that has to do with people really trying to stop our nation. And all it means really is that we’re going to spend hundreds of millions of dollars more, not even talking about the time,” the president-elect went on to say. “We’ll spend hundreds of millions of dollars more on building the same wall that we already have.”

President-elect Donald Trump called on the Biden administration to stop its effort to sell off tons of border wall construction materials before Trump takes office.
Government contractors in Arizona have been hauling off tons of steel bollards and fencing purchased under the first Trump administration to be used in border wall construction, according to exclusive video obtained by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a>. The materials have been posted on a government surplus auction site at starting bids as low as $5.

Trump posted about the apparent fire sale on his social media platform, Truth, late on Friday.
“Joe Biden keeps talking about a smooth transition and unified government, and yet he races to sell desperately needed border wall for pennies on the dollar. It will cost the U.S. a fortune, and time, to get the exact same wall to replace what has been sold, and the new wall will cost triple the price. It is CRAZY, and must be stopped,” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113649526163530633">wrote</a>.

In Arizona, a trucking company contracted by the government is hauling off an estimated half-mile worth of wall materials every day, and government officials want all the extra materials cleared and listed for sale by Christmas, according to one Border Patrol agent who spoke to The Daily Wire.
The sell-off appears to be an attempt to slow the implementation of Trump’s agenda after the former president takes office again on January 20. Without the ready supplies, the Trump administration will have to buy more, and may be forced to request additional funding through congress in order to get more materials.
The revelation related to the border wall sale has earned harsh criticism from Republicans who say the operation is wasteful and amounts to sabotage. Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senator-calls-on-pentagon-to-halt-sale-of-border-wall-says-gov-recouping-just-02-of-taxpayer-cost" target="_blank" rel="noopener">demanded</a> the effort be stopped in a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin last week.
“I am writing to demand that you immediately cease the auctioning off of border wall materials,” Schmitt said. “Senate Republicans, including the incoming Chairman, as well as my colleagues on the Senate Armed Services have raised the absurdity of selling border wall materials through letters, nomination hearings, and through the National Defense Authorization Act legislative process.”

‘CRAZY’: Trump Says Biden’s Border Wall Sale ‘Must Be Stopped’

Republican senator Eric Schmitt is demanding that the Biden administration&#8217;s Pentagon cease the sale of the border wall materials being offloaded, saying the outgoing administration is &#8220;sabotaging&#8221; the effort to secure the border while recouping just .02% of the taxpayer money used to buy the material initially.
In a <a href="https://www.schmitt.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/Senator-Eric-Schmitt-signed-Border-Wall-Materials-Final.pdf">letter obtained exclusively</a> by The Daily Wire, which <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-biden-races-to-sell-off-border-wall-parts-before-trump-takes-office">reported on Thursday</a> that Biden was racing to sell off border wall parts in his final weeks in office, Schmitt calls on Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to &#8220;immediately cease&#8221; the auctions.
“I am writing to demand that you immediately cease the auctioning off of border wall materials,” Schmitt opens in his letter to Austin. “Senate Republicans, including the incoming Chairman, as well as my colleagues on the Senate Armed Services have raised the absurdity of selling border wall materials through letters, nomination hearings, and through the National Defense Authorization Act legislative process.”
Schmitt&#8217;s analysis of the already completed sales this month found that the administration is offloading the wall materials for far less than the market value of the material alone.
“A representative sale on December 11, 2024 concluded with four sections of border wall, accounting for almost 16,000 pounds worth of steel, selling for $105. If purely sold for scrap metal at the average cost of $694 per metric ton, the value of this lot is worth $5,219,” he pointed out, going on to accuse the current administration of sabotaging Trump.

According to his math, the government is recouping just 0.02% of the taxpayer money used to initially secure the material during Trump&#8217;s first term.

A border patrol agent told investigative reporter James Lalino that the goal was to offload all the material at his segment of the border in Arizona by Christmas.
“They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points. The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.” The agent also estimated that as much as &#8220;half a mile worth of unused border wall is being moved every day.&#8221;
The Daily Wire investigation has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/texas-lt-gov-vows-we-will-buy-every-piece-of-border-wall-bidens-selling-and-give-it-to-trump">prompted a response</a> from Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who said he is prepared to buy the wall. “Message their White House right now: I will bid on all of that wall and we will buy it in Texas and we will give it to Donald Trump,” Patrick said. “I’ve got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it.”

Further sales are set to take place later this month, with bidding starting at just $5 for an entire segment of the wall, according to the auction website.

The Biden-Harris administration’s decision to sell off parts of the border wall comes after it presided over a record-breaking surge in illegal immigration, all while ending policies like Remain in Mexico and Title 42, both of which were intended to stem the flow of mass illegal immigration.
<a href="https://homeland.house.gov/2024/10/22/chairman-green-on-september-border-encounter-numbers-we-simply-cannot-go-on-like-this-as-a-country/">One report</a> from Republican members of the House Committee on Homeland Security indicates that, as of October 2024, there have been nearly 11 million illegal alien encounters nationwide between fiscal years 2021 and 2024 under the Biden-Harris administration.
The surge in illegal immigration is so drastic that it propelled the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/foreign-born-population-hits-new-high-with-surge-under-biden-fueled-by-illegal-immigration">foreign-born population</a> living in the United States to a new all-time high of 51.6 million people. One estimate indicates that 58 percent of the surge in the foreign-born population was due to illegal immigration.
“For the sake of our safety, sovereignty, and economic well-being, I, once again, urge the Department of Defense to halt the sale of border wall material immediately,” Schmitt said at the conclusion of his letter.
Trump has signaled that one of his first actions as president next year will be to resume construction of the wall, which was halted during the Biden administration.
