New York City has paid almost $100 million to rent empty preschool classrooms, according to a shocking new report.
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/04/20/us-news/empty-nyc-preschools-cost-taxpayers-nearly-100m-in-rent-alone/">reported</a> Monday that the city has paid $99.3 million over the last five years for rent and utilities on 28 buildings for preschool classrooms acquired through part of former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “universal” preschool push. The spending on the empty classrooms has both former officials and NYC residents upset about the Big Apple’s latest use of taxpayer dollars.
“I don’t think it’s corruption. It’s incompetence,” a former city Department of Education official told the Post.
The official added that despite “such a significant need for pre-K seats,” many of the classrooms were empty because they were made available in areas without verifying demand. Meanwhile, other parts of the city have long wait lists for preschool seats.
The Post reported that de Blasio’s push for the“3-K For All” program, which provides full-day early childhood education for 3-year-olds, led to a mad dash for renting buildings that have yet to be used.
De Blasio blamed the empty classrooms on his successor, former Mayor Eric Adams, saying that “during my administration, we never had a problem filling Pre-K and 3-K seats because we did lots of parent-friendly outreach.”
“Sadly, the Adams administration ended those efforts and took a step backwards on early childhood education,” he told the Post.
For his part, Adams said that he “inherited a system with thousands of empty early childhood seats,” and he focused on “stabilizing providers and increasing enrollment, rather than simply expanding capacity.”
Seven of the vacant sites are expected to be opened up in the fall by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“New York City is continuing to invest in and strengthen early care and learning across the city, including expanding access to 3-K and improving access to Pre-K programs for families,&#8221; the New York Department of Education told The Daily Wire. &#8220;NYC Public Schools, in partnership with City Hall, is opening new Pre-K Centers and activating additional early childhood sites in communities where families need more access to programs closer to home.”
One of the empty sites is at Union Turnpike in Queens and has cost the city $10.8 million, according to the report.
“They realized [afterward that] it wasn’t a good location. … If they didn’t think the need was there, why did they pick the site in the first place?” the former Education Department official said.
Nearby business owner Larry Mottola told the Post that it was troubling that the government would waste money on unused buildings.
“They had beautiful classrooms, a stainless steel kitchen [and] there’s a beautiful playground around back,” he said. “It’s bothersome, [that] they would waste that kind of money for four years.”
Another parent said that it was frustrating that the government selected sites where there was no demand.
“It feels like a real misstep that we’re not even utilizing the space that’s being paid for,” said Jessica Setton. &#8220;De Blasio had good intention, terrible execution.&#8221;

Rudy Giuliani is sharply criticizing New York City politics and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, arguing that the city he once led is moving away from the reforms and identity he fought to build during his tenure as mayor.

“The situation with New York, in a pure way, was a love affair,” Giuliani said. “I love New York. I love the city. I love what I did as mayor. I put my whole heart and soul into it.”
He added that his connection to the city goes beyond politics. “A lot of people love New York, but nobody loves it more than I do,” he said, pointing to his lifelong identity as a fan of the Yankees, Knicks, and Rangers as part of that bond.
Giuliani, who served as mayor from 1994 to 2001 and is widely credited with a major drop in crime during that period, said he believes the city is now in decline under its current leadership.
“I just think New York is potentially the greatest city on Earth and has been,” he said. “And what he’s doing to it … I didn’t think it could get worse than de Blasio. I really didn’t. I thought, well, that’s it. Now he had the worst mayor. Wow.”
Giuliani then escalated his criticism, framing Mamdani’s politics as part of a broader ideological threat. “He combines two things that I have been studying and fighting against since I was a child,” Giuliani said. “He’s a communist and he’s a violent supporter of violent Muslim religion.”
He went on to reference his early academic study of comparative religion, saying he had examined Islamic texts from a young age and concluded that they promoted violence in ways he found deeply troubling. He also stressed that he believes most Muslims are peaceful, while warning against what he sees as silence from within the broader community.
“The vast majority of Muslims are good people … but Muslims don’t stand up,” he said. “That’s what happens … good men do nothing.”
Giuliani extended his criticism beyond New York, warning about what he sees as broader cultural and political shifts in Western cities, suggesting that similar dynamics are emerging in Europe as well. Joking about a comment he made to Piers Morgan, “Charles the Third is gonna become an Imam.”
At the center of his remarks was a broader warning about what he views as ideological extremism taking hold in urban leadership, and a call for renewed political opposition to it.
Giuliani closed by reiterating his deep personal connection to New York and his belief that the city’s future is at risk if current trends continue, framing his comments as both a political critique and a personal lament for a city he once led through crisis and rebuilding.

In a story that perfectly captures the media’s chronic recklessness, a supposedly “explosive” scoop about former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio criticizing Democratic mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani turned out to be spectacularly wrong — because British journalists talked to the wrong Bill de Blasio.
The bizarre episode began when Bevan Hurley, a senior reporter for The Times of London, emailed who he thought was the former mayor, asking for his thoughts on Mamdani’s big-spending socialist platform. The email went instead to a 59-year-old Long Island wine importer named Bill DeBlasio — same name, different guy — who decided to play along for fun.
“I’m Bill DeBlasio. I’ve always been Bill DeBlasio,” the importer told <a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/10/29/2025/british-newspaper-spoke-to-the-wrong-deblasio-not-an-imposter">Semafor</a>, explaining that he never claimed to be the mayor and assumed the journalist would figure out his mistake. Instead, Hurley printed the ChatGPT-crafted remarks the Long Island DeBlasio sent back, which included skeptical commentary about Mamdani’s tax-and-spend proposals, saying the numbers didn’t “add up.”
Within hours, the article blew up. The Times of London yanked the story, calling it a case of being “misled by an individual falsely claiming to be the former New York mayor.” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/28/nyregion/bill-de-blasio-mamdani-agenda.html">The New York Times</a> and other outlets piled on with even harsher language — labeling the man a “de Blasio impersonator.”
But the Long Island DeBlasio insists he never misrepresented himself. “I never once said I was the mayor. He never addressed me as the mayor,” he said. “So I just gave him my opinion.”  Far from being a prankster with a political agenda, the businessman said he responded mostly for amusement — and because the journalist’s failure to double-check seemed unbelievable.
“It was all in good fun,” he said. “I never thought it would make it to print.”  He even poked fun at the confusion over their names, noting that the former mayor spells his surname “de Blasio” with a lowercase “d,” while his own family uses a capital “D” — a distinction he joked about, saying, “low-class Italians use a little d.”
The fallout was swift: embarrassed reporters <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/article/article-removed-crrlqtsxp">deleted their work</a>, British editors issued apologies, and The New York Times scrambled to reassure readers that the real de Blasio still backs Mamdani’s $7–$10 billion per year leftist agenda of free buses, universal childcare, and rent freezes.
Former mayor de Blasio said, “I’m astounded. It’s a complete fabrication.”
He reaffirmed his support for Mamdani’s policies, comparing the candidate’s ambitions to his own free pre-K initiative during his time as mayor.
Meanwhile, the Long Island DeBlasio took the chaos in stride. Wearied from years of hate mail meant for the former mayor, he shrugged off the whole media circus as another example of sloppy journalism.
He was accurately quoted, but called it “lazy” reporting.

And while Peanut’s death may be shocking, it shouldn’t be surprising — Democrats have a history of animal cruelty.
In 2022, Capitol Police euthanized a wild fox affectionately — though unoriginally — nicknamed “Capitol Fox.” The Capitol Fox quickly became a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/05/us/politics/fox-capitol-hill.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">viral sensation</a>, with reporters jostling for a sight of the vixen, and even asking Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) if he had seen the creature.
But after the Capitol Fox allegedly attacked Democrat Rep. Ami Bera (CA) and POLITICO reporter Ximena Bustillo, Capitol Police <a href="https://freebeacon.com/latest-news/health-officials-murder-fox-who-allegedly-bit-democrat-journalist/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a> the fox along with her three children. After the alleged “incident,” Bera <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/06/us/politics/capitol-hill-fox.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shared a photo</a> of himself smiling and holding up a picture of the fox, and expressed his wishes that the fox “and its family are safely relocated and wishing it a happy and prosperous future.”

As of this writing, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has not commented on Peanut’s untimely demise. But she is not the first New York Democrat on whose watch harm has befallen famous creatures.
In 2014, then-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio infamously <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/15/bill-de-blasio-regrets-groundhog-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped</a> Charlotte the Groundhog at a Groundhog Day ceremony in the city. Asked by The Guardian about the incident years later, de Blasio <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jun/15/bill-de-blasio-regrets-groundhog-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attempted</a> to pass the buck.

Activist Sean King spent over $40,000 of donor funds to purchase a thoroughbred guard dog, the Washington Free Beacon <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/blm-activist-vows-revenge-after-free-beacon-report-on-his-40k-show-dog/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, only to return the dog to the breeder.

I have been open about how I used to be more Left-leaning, which I think tends to be somewhat common in your youth. When you’re young, you don’t have a firm grasp on how the world works, and the Left is really great at selling their ideas. One that took hold of me in my liberal past was the concept of modern love. I finally woke up to the fact that “modern love” is a lie. In reality, no one is happy in this type of relationship. 
The New York Times publishes a weekly column titled Modern Love, written by readers who share their “modern love” stories about how they are bucking traditional love — because they’re doing love differently. A few recent headlines include <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/19/style/modern-love-affair-therapy-spectacular-betrayal.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">My Spectacular Betrayal</a>, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/16/style/tiny-modern-love-stories-deeply-in-love-with-a-polyamorous-woman.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deeply in Love With a Polyamorous Woman</a>, and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/07/style/modern-love-kissing-a-fellow-janitor-amid-the-trash.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kissing a Fellow Janitor Amid the Trash</a>. You get the idea. They are all written as glamorized aspirational tales with happy endings. The implied message is that modern love is freeing: “Why have the natural traditional marriage when you can have something that is different!” But what these articles are actually promoting is narcissism: “I can live my life as I want to! I should be able to give into my every impulse.” Yet readers never get an update as to how this modern love worked out. How does that work out in the long run?
Bill de Blasio and Chirlane McCray’s marriage answers that question. Bill de Blasio was a one-time presidential contender no one took seriously, and before that, he was busy ruining New York City as the mayor. McCray and de Blasio are a biracial couple, a factor he constantly put in everyone’s face and one that obviously helped him become mayor — because his policies certainly did not. But what’s more interesting is that McCray is a lesbian — was a lesbian. Is a lesbian. Is, was, who knows? But it did not matter to de Blasio. He married her anyway. 
So how did that work out? Well, according to a <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/05/nyregion/de-blasio-marriage-chirlane-mccray.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Times piece</a> about them, they’re splitting. But they are not getting divorced. After all, the only way to build on your modern love failure is to add yet another layer of modern love to it. Now you can apparently split, continue living together without getting divorced, and date other people. That is what they are doing. And the article glamorizes not only their relationship but their split too.

What this article should have done is addressed how strange this dynamic is. It should have delved deeper into why they are not leaving their home and will continue living together. And it certainly should have mentioned their children — the children who will come home with the full understanding that their parents are living together while also seeing other people. Their daughter was arrested at a BLM protest in 2020, so perhaps they could have explained if they think part of the reason she seems to be suffering is an effect of their unhealthy, modern love relationship. 
No one should aspire to this kind of relationship. So-called modern love is the reason so many women and men are unhappy in their relationships — yet then cannot come up with reasons as to why their relationships are failing. They don’t understand because they don’t even know what it means to come together in a marriage. Marriages are not meant to be experimental. Partners are to be chosen carefully and vows are to be taken seriously. These kinds of arrangements do not work out. So maybe this is a cue to take into serious consideration what conservatives support, what Christians support, and why marriage should not be taken outside of the church in the first place.

Former New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, who previously identified as a lesbian, have decided to separate.
The two are splitting romantically to date other people, but they are not planning on divorcing or even moving out of their Brooklyn home, the pair announced in a lengthy <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/05/nyregion/de-blasio-marriage-chirlane-mccray.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with The New York Times published Wednesday.
De Blasio, 62, and McCray, 68, said their decision came after a discussion at home about two months ago that began with de Blasio querying why they weren&#8217;t “lovey-dovey anymore?”
“You can feel when things are off,” de Blasio told the Times, “and you don’t want to live that way.”
“You can’t fake it,” McCray said.
“I just want to have fun,” she said. “It’s not that we haven’t had fun.”
De Blasio was mayor of New York for eight years, from 2014 to 2021. He was succeeded by the current mayor, Eric Adams, also a Democrat.
The two pointed to several specific events when they felt their marriage took a hit. One is the COVID pandemic in 2020, while de Blasio was still mayor. Another was de Blasio&#8217;s run for president in 2020, which McCray called &#8220;a distraction,&#8221; but she supported him anyway.
“This is not the kind of thing where you can break ranks,” McCray said. “That’s part of the difficulty of being part of a package.”
De Blasio is convinced their marriage would not have encountered its current difficulties if he had never been elected mayor, according to the Times.
“Everything was this overwhelming schedule, this sort of series of tasks,” de Blasio said. “And that kind of took away a little bit of our soul.”
During their &#8220;trial separation,&#8221; the couple will continue to live “for the time being” in the Park Slope townhouse where they raised their two children, now adults.
De Blasio met McCray when both worked for David Dinkins, New York&#8217;s first black mayor from 1990 to 1993. At the time, McCray identified as a lesbian and was not immediately open to her future husband&#8217;s attempts to pursue her, but she eventually fell in love with him, she said.
“He was very easy to fall in love with,” she told the Times.
The two married in 1994 in Brooklyn.
However, de Blasio said he continued to ponder his wife&#8217;s sexual orientation.

“For the guy who took the chance on a woman who was an out lesbian and wrote an article called ‘I Am a Lesbian,’” de Blasio told the Times, “there was a part of me that would at times say, ‘Hmmm, is this like a time bomb ticking? Is this something that you’re going to regret later on?’ So I always lived with that stuff.”
Since his election to mayor in 2013, de Blasio and McCray have weathered their share of criticism and scandals together.
While he was mayor, de Blasio was criticized for making McCray extremely influential within City Hall, including boosting her potential run as Brooklyn borough president.
In 2019, McCray&#8217;s city-run $850 million mental health initiative, called ThriveNYC, was <a href="https://www.politico.com/states/new-york/city-hall/story/2019/02/27/with-opaque-budget-and-elusive-metrics-850m-thrivenyc-program-attempts-a-reset-873945" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criticized</a> for operating without much scrutiny or metrics to measure its success.
Just last month, the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board ordered the former mayor to pay nearly $500,000 in reimbursements and fines for having his security detail accompany him on trips during his failed presidential campaign.

Two years ago, the wife of New York City’s then-mayor told residents to stand up for fellow residents to stop street harassment, including by “physically intervening” – an act for which Marine Daniel Penny was taken into custody for on Friday.
In March 2021, during the height of the &#8220;Defund the Police&#8221; movement and concern about racist attacks against Asians, Chirlane McCray — the wife of then-mayor Bill de Blasio and co-chair of New York City’s Task Force on Racial Inclusion and Equity — <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chirlane-mccray-deblasio-asks-citizens-intervene-crime-after-defund-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> that people should take things into their own hands.
“As attacks on Asian American communities continue, we’re asking New Yorkers to show up for their neighbors and intervene when witnessing hateful violence or harassment. I know that can be frightening when you aren’t sure what to do or say, but you can learn,” she said on Twitter.
NYPD statistics for 2020, the most recent available when McCray issued her call to stop people who were harassing Asians, show that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chirlane-mccray-deblasio-asks-citizens-intervene-crime-after-defund-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">most people</a> arrested for such hate crimes were black, The Daily Wire reported.
She shared five tactics for “interrupting” the harassment, including “Direct: Respond directly to the aggressor or <a href="https://twitter.com/NYCFirstLady109/status/1368299633781399554" target="_blank" rel="noopener">physically intervene</a> and only after assessing the situation. Be confident, assertive, calm.”
Her remarks were even shared in the military publication <a href="https://americanmilitarynews.com/2021/03/nyc-first-lady-asks-citizens-to-physically-intervene-in-violent-crime-after-city-defunded-police/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">American Military News</a>, where Penny might have seen them.
But when Penny intervened after a violent criminal named Jordan Neely was harassing people on a subway train, according to witnesses, he was charged with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/marine-vet-accused-of-killing-jordan-neely-turns-himself-in-after-charge-against-him-revealed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">second-degree manslaughter</a> by New York’s district attorney, Alvin Bragg. Penny had put Neely in a chokehold to restrain him, then put him in the “recovery position” after the threat was neutralized, video showed, but Neely died.
McCray was sharing techniques from a nonprofit called Right To Be, previously called Hollaback, that is dedicated to stopping street harassment. The group calls the advice the &#8220;5 Ds.&#8221; The group runs <a href="https://righttobe.org/upcoming-free-trainings/">trainings</a> on “bystander intervention” and “stand[ing] up against street harassment,” including at schools and for teacher certification.
Right To Be&#8217;s says in 2022 it joined with the NYC Commission on Gender Equity and the NYC Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence “leveraging Right To Be’s 5Ds methodology.” More recent materials seem to have <a href="https://twitter.com/Raahgiri_Fdn/status/1650388499881762819" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped</a> “physically intervening” from the fifth D.
Despite its mission positing street harassment as an important issue, the nonprofit appeared to characterize Neely in sympathetic terms. “Jordan Neely’s violent death while experiencing a mental health crisis and pleading for help is a direct result of our failure, as a city and as a community, to invest in the public health infrastructure and support that could have spared his life,” it <a href="https://twitter.com/fountainhouse/status/1655649146001317908">retweeted</a> May 8.
Neely regularly harassed people on the subway and streets and was previously arrested for <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/jordan-neely-history-attacks-subway-riders-nyc-chokehold-death">attacking</a> an elderly woman.
Right To Be, which received a grant in 2017 from <a href="https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/grants/past?filter_keyword=hollaback&amp;grant_id=OR2016-32410">George Soros&#8217;</a> Open Society Foundations, is focused heavily on racial identity. It says it is preserving the “Right to be” “Black,” “Latinx,” “LGBTQIA+,” “Asian,” “Muslim,” and “more,” but it does not explicitly include white or Marine, like Penny.
Right To Be did not return a request for comment from The Daily Wire on its view on the Penny-Neely incident as specialists in intervention and opposition to street harassment. Its president is Emily May, who goes by the pronouns she/they and is a member of the mayor’s appointed Street Harassment Prevention Advisory Board.
On April 17, Right To Be retweeted <a href="https://twitter.com/TheSafecityApp/status/1647986793873113088" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a post</a> about how horrible street harassment is: “Street Harassment is a continuous form of silencing victims. It creates a cycle of abuse, where everyday people are taught to walk fast and ignore comments, instead of fighting to be free to walk anywhere!”
But that opposition to antisocial behavior appeared conditional on the race of the culprit. That same day, it retweeted the dubious claim that black children often face gun violence at the hands of <a href="https://twitter.com/DrBlackDeer/status/1648137815446650880" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“white supremacists.”</a>

Former New York City Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bill-de-blasio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bill de Blasio</a> has landed a new job teaching public health courses at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harvard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harvard University</a>.
The former Big Apple mayor will join the faculty of Harvard this fall as a visiting fellow at both the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School, as well as a Senior Leadership Fellow at the T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He will teach courses in public health leadership at the School of Public Health, and appear at various programs at the Institute of Politics. The two schools introduced de Blasio in separate announcements Wednesday.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mayor de Blasio and [former Boston] Mayor [Kim] Janey to campus as Menschel Senior Leadership Fellows,” Dean Michelle A. Williams said in a statement to the <a href="https://apnews.com/article/covid-mlb-health-sports-education-115e4c03c5469553590e27fc4feaf165" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Associated Press</a>. “Their insights and their mentorship will be tremendously helpful to students who aspire to public office, as well as to those who are looking to lead in other sectors.”
In its announcement, the <a href="https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/policy-translation-leadership-development/senior-leadership-fellows-program/news-events/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">School of Public Health</a> touted de Blasio&#8217;s tenure as mayor of America&#8217;s largest city, particularly during the COVID pandemic.
“He led New York City through the COVID-19 pandemic, turning what was once a global epicenter into the safest city in the country,” the announcement said. The school also touted de Blasio&#8217;s record on issues outside COVID: his initiative to make early childhood education a universal right in the city; his affordable housing projects and action plan against homelessness; his activism and push for a citywide $15 per hour minimum wage; and his passage of the Climate Mobilization Act, also known as the NYC Green New Deal, and initiatives to make the city carbon-neutral by 2050, including ending fossil fuel fuel use in new buildings.
De Blasio will teach an eight-week long course on leadership, focused on navigating major issues in public health challenges, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/24/nyregion/bill-de-blasio-harvard.html">The New York Times</a> reported. He will also hold office hours and meet with students and faculty, and serve as a seminar speaker.
At the Institute of Politics, de Blasio will visit Harvard several times throughout the semester for a variety of discussions and other events.
“Mayor de Blasio’s decades of experience in local government, federal agencies, national campaigns, and running the largest city in the country will provide invaluable insight to our students and the Harvard community,” Setti Warren, the director of the <a href="https://iop.harvard.edu/about/newsletter-press-release/new-york-city-mayor-bill-de-blasio-joins-institute-politics-fall-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Institute of Politics</a>, said in the news release Wednesday. “We are excited to welcome Mayor de Blasio to campus as we look for pathways forward on the challenges facing our democracy.”
De Blasio expressed his excitement on Twitter Wednesday. “I am VERY optimistic about the generation of leaders and activists coming up,” he <a href="https://twitter.com/BilldeBlasio" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a>. “It will be a privilege to offer lessons I’ve learned through decades of public service. My key message to them: we CAN make bold progressive change. I know because I’ve lived it.”
The Harvard position is likely a career boost for the former mayor of New York City, who has unsuccessfully sought higher political office several times recently. De Blasio dropped out of the 2020 presidential campaign early in the cycle. He was mulling a run for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-nyc-democrat-mayor-bill-de-blasio-makes-his-decision-whether-to-run-for-governor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Governor of New York</a> in 2022, but decided against it. He then announced a run for Congress in the redrawn 10th Congressional District, but <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/failed-dem-presidential-candidate-bill-de-blasio-drops-out-of-another-race" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped out</a> ahead of the primary.

Among the many titles <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York City</a> has earned over the last 400 years, the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) announced Tuesday that America’s melting pot had become the most dangerous sanctuary community in the nation.
The 35-year-old institute, which advocates for reducing legal immigration from over a million to 300,000 a year, vows to defend the rights of individual Americans and their local communities from harm and challenges caused by mass migration to the United States.
In a recent <a href="https://www.irli.org/rotten-apple-new-york-city-named-americas-most-dangerous-sanctuary-community/">report</a>, the institute listed the top ten sanctuary communities that have posed significant dangers nationwide — with New York City leading the way.
“These communities have earned their places on this list because of incredibly poor leadership at the city, county, and state levels,” Dale L. Wilcox, IRLI’s executive director and general counsel, said in a statement. “Data overwhelmingly shows that sanctuary policies lead to more crime, fear, and death.”
“The leaders of these communities should not escape accountability for the damage they have caused,” Wilcox added. “Their residents deserve much more.”
For New York City, it’s not hard to see how the Big Apple turned rotten over the last eight years under former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s radical sanctuary policies. Almost every day, the public sees cell phone videos, surveillance footage, and reports that expose rampant theft, violent attacks, rapes, and murders sweeping across the city from citizens and non-citizens.
New mayor and former New York Police Department officer Eric Adams has pledged to clean up his predecessor&#8217;s disregard for community safety. Still, the rhetoric to crack down on rampant crime falls on deaf ears when he openly supported the city’s sanctuary status and continued de Blasio’s pro-illegal immigrant policies such as allowing a non-citizen voting law.
Just before COVID changed the United States and the world, New York City released more than 7,500 illegal immigrants — some of whom had previous murder and sexual abuse convictions — back into the diverse communities across the five Burroughs.
Breitbart <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/01/17/new-york-freed-7-5k-criminal-illegal-aliens-into-u-s-in-2019-including-convicted-murderers-sex-abusers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting director Matthew Albence revealed that in 2019, the 7,500 illegal immigrants released into communities by NYC law enforcement had a total of 17,873 criminal convictions and 6,500 criminal charges against them.
Those criminal convictions and charges included 200 homicides, more than 1,000 sexual offenses, and 500 robberies. Others had more than 3,500 assaults, 1,500 DUIs, and 1,000 weapons violations.
“The only immigrants protected by such policies are those committing violent and dangerous offenses, often in the same communities that these politicians are purporting to protect,” Albence said during the press conference. “These are preventable crimes, people, and more importantly, preventable victims.”
With New York City leading the way, other cities include Democrat-run metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Trailing behind follows more blue cities like San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Portland. Wake County, North Carolina, and Middlesex County, New Jersey, were also included.
“Sanctuary policies only provide sanctuary to criminals, not to immigrant communities,” Tom Homan, IRLI senior fellow and former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said in a statement. “Immigrant communities don’t want criminals in their neighborhoods either.”
“Victims and witnesses of crime don’t want the offender back in their communities to seek revenge,” Homan added. “All communities deserve protection from criminals, but sanctuary policies put immigrant communities at greater risk of crime.”
While many of the cities include radical soft-on-crime district attorneys funded by left-wing billionaire George Soros, the institute argues that illegal immigrants with a dangerous history have created an unsafe environment for those communities that have poured their lives into living what’s left of the American Dream.

Well, That Didn&#8217;t Work
Democrats in Pennsylvania decided to boost a MAGA longshot in the gubernatorial race. But now that he&#8217;s won the Republican nomination, there&#8217;s growing worry by Democrats that he could actually win.
Doug Mastriano, a strong Trump supporter as a state senator who worked to overturn the 2020 presidential election, had also drawn doubts from fellow Republicans that he could win.
Jackie Kulback, chairman of the Cambria County Republican Party, told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2022/07/19/mastriano-pennsylvania-governor-race-00046423">Politico</a> she wasn&#8217;t sure he could win in November, but much has changed.
“The higher the gas prices go, the more electable Mastriano is,” Kulback told the political website. &#8220;Honestly, I feel this is Mastriano’s campaign to lose.”
Mastriano will face Democrat Josh Shapiro, a veteran candidate with a lot of money. But the polls show a tight race, with two in June showing Shapiro leading by about four percentage points.
Larry Ceisler, a Pennsylvania-based public affairs consultant backing Shapiro, told Politico that Democrats are beginning to realize Mastriano could win.
“Most people are in a little bubble, where they talk to one other and say, ‘Boy, there’s no way Doug Mastriano can beat Josh Shapiro.’ Well, you know what? Those people don’t get off the turnpike,” he said. “It wakes some people as to: It’s a real campaign, and yes, there really are people who are for Doug Mastriano, and this is not going to be a walk in the park.”
A Dem In GOP Clothing
With President Joe Biden&#8217;s approval rating in the dumpster amid soaring inflation and gas prices, it&#8217;s not a great time to be a Democrat.
So one Democratic candidate in Ohio is trying to sound more like a Republican.
Tim Ryan, a candidate for U.S. Senate, is running ads on Fox News featuring conservative-sounding language — including compliments from Fox News&#8217; opinion hosts. His latest ad, airing only on Fox last week, shows him winning kudos from none other than Tucker Carlson.
&#8220;You are on the stump and you talk bread and butter issues, economy, kitchen table issues,&#8221; Bret Baier says in the ad. Other hosts use the word &#8220;moderate&#8221; to describe Ryan, with one saying he is &#8220;hanging out in the middle like most of us are.&#8221;
Ryan has also avoided appearing with Biden, as many other Democrats have. When Biden popped into the state earlier, Ryan was nowhere to be seen. “Tim has a full day of previously-scheduled campaign events along the Ohio River,” a Ryan spokesman told The <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/jul/6/top-ohio-dem-candidates-will-skip-biden-event/">Washington Times</a>.
And it&#8217;s worth remembering that former President Donald Trump won Ohio, long a swing state, by eight points in both 2016 and 2020.
Poof, He&#8217;s Gone
On Tuesday, former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) dropped his bid to represent the left-leaning 10th Congressional District, admitting that “it’s not going work out.”
“I’ve really listened carefully to people and it’s clear to me that when it comes to this congressional district, people are looking for another option. And I respect that,” the former mayor said.
De Blasio, who served as mayor of New York City from 2014 to 2021 and made a brief run for president in 2020, announced his bid for Congress in May. But he never caught on.
De Blasio had been trailing most of the Democratic field in the district, which includes parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn, in recent polls, with one showing he had just 3% of the vote.
Much To Do In Michigan
Political soothsayers are predicting a red wave in the mid-term elections, and Republicans in Michigan are hoping that can push them to a win against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Five GOP candidates will be on the ballot for the nomination on August 2 after the early favorite, former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, was disqualified for forged signatures on his qualifying petition.
The disqualification of Craig, who vows to run a write-in campaign, threw the race into chaos and opened up the nomination to some lesser-known pols.
In recent polling, former businesswoman and political commentator Tudor Dixon appears to be the favorite. Dixon has recently been labeled the &#8220;establishment candidate&#8221; by at least two of her opponents, Garrett Soldano and Kevin Rinke, after she received an endorsement from the powerful DeVos family. Richard DeVos Jr. is a multi-billionaire, and his wife, Betsy, is the former Secretary of Education in the Trump administration.
The race has not been short of drama. Candidate Ryan Kelley was arrested by the FBI and charged with misdemeanors related to his presence at the January 6 Capitol riot. Yet Kelley has done well in the polls following his arrest and has vowed to stay in the race despite his upcoming trial.
So far, no one has won the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
Incumbents Rule In GA
Incumbents won more than 90% of the congressional races in 2020, according to <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Election_results,_2020:_Incumbent_win_rates_by_state">Ballotpedia</a>.
So it&#8217;s no surprise that both incumbent Democrats and Republicans are leading their gubernatorial and Senate races in Georgia, according to the most recent polls.
GOP gubernatorial nominee and incumbent governor Brian Kemp leads Democratic nominee Stacey Abrams by seven points, 52% &#8211; 45%, according to a recent poll conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research, which surveyed 1,197 likely state voters between July 5 &#8211; July 11.
Meanwhile, Democratic senatorial nominee and incumbent Raphael Warnock leads GOP nominee Herschel Walker by three points, 50% &#8211; 47%, according to that same poll. But Walker has won the endorsement of Trump, which may mean something when voters cast their votes on November 8.
Carin&#8217; For Karrin
Former Vice President Mike Pence has endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson for governor in Arizona.
“As Arizona Democrats pursue the reckless Biden-Harris agenda, Karrin Taylor Robson is the only candidate for Governor that will keep Arizona’s border secure and streets safe, empower parents and create great schools, and promote conservative values,” Pence said. “Karrin is the best choice for Arizona’s future, and I am proud to support her.”
Taylor Robson said she&#8217;s honored to receive the endorsement of Pence, who will appear with her at campaign events this Friday in Phoenix and southern Arizona.
“Mike Pence has been a warrior for the conservative values we hold most dear: the sanctity of Life; limited government; law and order; opportunity for all; vigorous defense of the 2nd Amendment; and the knowledge that our freedoms are granted by God,” Taylor Robson said. “Modern politics is full of charlatans and fakes, but Vice President Pence is the genuine article. He has never wavered in his conservative beliefs and commitment to our Constitution, and left a rock-solid legacy as Governor to which I will aspire.”

Former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city">New York City</a> Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bill-de-blasio">Bill de Blasio</a> (D) and one-time Democratic presidential candidate announced Tuesday that he is dropping out of the state’s 10th congressional district race, just two months after announcing his bid.
De Blasio&#8217;s congressional aspirations lasted half as long as his 2020 presidential campaign, which he ended in September 2019 after admitting he had no chance at winning.
“It’s clear the people of #NY10 are looking for another option and I respect that,” the former mayor captioned his video. “Time for me to leave electoral politics and focus on other ways to serve. De Blasio added that he will be looking for “a different way to serve,” but did not expand on what that will be. “Even though this is not going to work out, I want you to know how much I appreciate you, and we’re going to do a lot together,” he told his supporters.
Earlier this year, de Blasio said he would not run for office in either New York’s 11th congressional district or the gubernatorial primary. He then changed his mind when the state’s newly redrawn 10th district attracted attention from a multitude of Democrats, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-de-blasio-announces-he-will-run-for-congress">reported</a>.
When de Blasio first floated the idea of getting back into politics, many New Yorkers were <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-de-blasio-teases-a-run-for-congress-and-new-york-is-not-amused">unenthused</a> that their former mayor had more political ambitions.

De Blasio leaves a crowded primary that includes incumbent Rep. Mondaire Jones, who has <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2020-election/aoc-squad-are-getting-some-company-here-s-who-joining-n1250958">positioned</a> himself with the most radical leftists in Congress.
New York&#8217;s congressional and Senate primaries were delayed after the Court of Appeals <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-yorks-highest-court-strikes-down-democrats-gerrymandered-congressional-state-senate-maps">struck down</a> the original proposal for redistricting and appointed a special master to redraw the flawed Democratic maps. Voters will head to the polls August 23 to select their nominees.

Anyone visiting <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city">New York City</a> in the heat of the summer knows the smell of trash can get intense, but one report found that 2022 has been a particularly disgusting year.
According to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/07/14/nyc-odor-complaints-reach-disgusting-all-time-high/">New York Post</a> analysis, calls to 311 regarding outdoor odor complaints reached a record high, increasing 54% this year compared to the same month in 2021.
The publication spoke with several employees and residents to assess how they felt about the stench of the city.
“Every morning I smell like a rancid smell, like rotten food that has been sitting there for a while,” Justin Colon, a porter at a Times Square office tower, told the publication.
“No matter what you do — if you douse yourself in a bottle of perfume or Chanel No. 5 — the scent is still on the tip of your nose,” tech worker Jaiden Williams said of the constant bad smell. He went on to describe the stink as “gnarly and cadaverous.”
“It’s a rotten, lingering smell, and if it rains, it smells even worse,” fashion worker Milly Aldon told the Post. She said Manhattan is “an alive city that smells like death.”
This is partly due to heaps of trash left baking in the sun, which is a constant problem. But a growing concern is the increased number of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/homelessness">homeless</a> individuals defecating in the streets.
“I clean the steps going down to the subway. I’ve cleaned up poop so many times,” Colon explained. “This morning I was cleaning up poop.”
“It is not uncommon to see human feces on the street,” a police officer told the publication. “I guess you only have to pick up after your dog.”
Meanwhile, a Manhattan NYPD detective described it differently. “The homeless people are s***ing all over the place,” he said.
The article also mentions outdoor dining sheds, which were popularized during the pandemic, that are now mostly abandoned and being utilized for purposes including sleeping, having sex, doing drugs, and going to the bathroom, according to some restaurant owners.
It’s also mentioned that in 2016, then-Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) decriminalized public urination as part of the Criminal Justice Reform Act. This led to increased incidents of public urination and now defecation, which both contribute to the overall stench.
According to inspection data, 14% of city parks had closed their restrooms as of July 2, leaving homeless people with fewer public facilities to use.
