Minnesota Representative and Democratic Senate candidate Angie Craig condemned President Donald Trump&#8217;s crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., although she once swore to put a man who assaulted her in her D.C. apartment behind bars.
Referring to Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hell-push-for-long-term-extensions-of-d-c-federal-takeover?author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Trump+Says+He%E2%80%99ll+Push+For+%E2%80%98Long-Term+Extensions%E2%80%99+Of+D.C.+Federal+Takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">deployment</a> of the National Guard to the nation&#8217;s capital, Craig <a href="https://x.com/RepAngieCraig/status/1955428012289065257" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on X Tuesday that &#8220;President Trump&#8217;s actions are totally unjustified and a waste of taxpayer dollars.&#8221;
But Craig was not opposed to cleaning up the city streets when she was assaulted in an elevator of her own apartment complex by a homeless man who was reportedly acting like he was on drugs.
In February 2023, Craig reported seeing a man, who was later identified as 26-year-old Kendrick Hamlin, in the lobby area of her apartment building &#8220;acting erratic,&#8221; as if he was under the influence of an unknown substance, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-release-photo-of-suspect-in-assault-of-house-democrat" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The congresswoman told police that after she told Hamlin &#8220;good morning,&#8221; he followed her into the elevator and &#8220;began to randomly do push ups.&#8221; Craig told police that he then punched her on the chin area of her face, and later grabbed her neck.
After defending herself, Craig escaped with no major injuries and called for the man to be brought to justice.
Hamlin was soon arrested, although he <a href="https://x.com/CBSMornings/status/1625484488695328769" target="_blank" rel="noopener">assaulted</a> the two officers who apprehended him. It then came out that Craig was Hamlin&#8217;s &#8220;assault number 13&#8221; on the repeat offender&#8217;s record, which made Craig promise &#8220;to do everything in my power to make sure there is not a 14, a 15, a 20.&#8221;
Hamlin is serving a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/district-man-sentenced-prison-assaulting-member-congress-and-two-police-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">27-month sentence</a> on assault charges.
According to Craig, what bothered her was that Hamlin had previously attacked 12 people and had never served more than 30 days in jail.
While announcing her Senate bid for the 2026 election year, Craig said in an <a href="https://www.audacy.com/podcast/the-morning-news-with-vineeta-sawkar-2e837/episodes/angie-craig-on-the-biggest-factor-for-voters-to-support-her-us-senate-run-i-dont-hesitate-to-talk-to-anyone-i-can-sit-down-and-talk-to-family-farmers-or-any-worker-a8440?action=AUTOPLAY_FULL&amp;actionContentId=201-91d55cea-ecaa-4019-ad02-ef5a851fa7f7" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> that her harrowing experience just two years prior was &#8220;a pivotal moment in my life&#8221; and that &#8220;it took about six months to build up the mental health strength … to be able to evaluate whether I was going to move forward or not.&#8221;
Craig continued by saying that &#8220;Understanding that the man who assaulted me was homeless and was an addict and that we failed him as a country — all of those things can be true at the same time– in addition to [the fact that] I was his thirteenth count of assault.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s hypocritical and shameful for Congresswoman Craig, a DC crime victim who experienced a traumatic assault, to oppose efforts to ensure what happened to her doesn&#8217;t happen to anyone else,&#8221; National Republican Senate Committee Press Secretary Nick Puglia said in a statement to The Daily Wire. &#8220;All Americans deserve to be safe, regardless of their job title, but Craig claims efforts to make the nation&#8217;s capital safe are &#8216;unjustified.'&#8221;
Although many Democrats have criticized Trump&#8217;s move to crack down on crime in the nation&#8217;s capital, the president is swiftly moving forward with plans to extend his takeover of the city by calling on Congress to pass a resolution enabling him to do so.
&#8220;We think the Democrats will not do anything to stop crime, but we think the Republicans will do it almost unanimously,&#8221; Trump said.

A Catholic priest and well-known exorcist who was accused of misconduct has been cleared of all charges.
Fr. Carlos Martins, an expert in Catholic relics, was leading an event with some 200 people at Queen of Apostles Parish in Joliet, Illinois, in November 2024. The priest, who hosts “The Exorcist Files” podcast, was on a <a href="https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/amp/news/265661/father-carlos-martins-cleared-of-misdemeanor-charges-after-incident-at-illinois-parish" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/amp/news/265661/father-carlos-martins-cleared-of-misdemeanor-charges-after-incident-at-illinois-parish&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1754148224398000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1R4tlgIdpm4ZRfY9kOJ_3x">16-month tour</a> where he lectured on relics. At the Joliet event, he reportedly joked with a group of attendees, commenting on his baldness, and allegedly briefly touching a girl’s hair.
This week, prosecutors “withdrew those charges and dismissed the case” without finding that Martins had done anything wrong or criminal, lawyers for the priest said.
Police reports, obtained by The Daily Wire through Freedom of Information Act requests, the girl—a minor— claimed Martins placed her hair in his mouth and flossed with it, and then sat behind her group, “growling” at them.
Martins and his legal team denied the allegations, and no security footage or independent evidence was presented to support the allegations prior to the police being notified by the parish. The negative media attention led Martins to cancel the remainder of his tour.
On July 30, 2025, Will County Circuit Court dropped the charges and acknowledged that Martins did nothing wrong.
Speaking with Daily Wire, Fr. Martins said he was grateful to be exonerated.
“A Christian doesn’t merely respect the truth —he recognizes it as a person. I trusted that, in God’s time, the facts would be revealed.”
The Joliet Police Department began investigating post-allegations in November, but only filed one count of misdemeanor battery charges on January 23, 2025. Martins <a href="https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2025/02/04/exorcist-carlos-martins-pleads-not-guilty-battery-249837" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2025/02/04/exorcist-carlos-martins-pleads-not-guilty-battery-249837&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1754148224398000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1WdRQbNkf7ipo-haU1jjag">pleaded</a> not guilty on January 27, 2025, with a pretrial set for February 24, 2025.

Examples included officers’ false statements and unaddressed <a href="https://www.shawlocal.com/the-herald-news/2024/12/14/illinois-ag-report-joliet-police-department-fails-to-hold-bad-officers-accountable/" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.shawlocal.com/the-herald-news/2024/12/14/illinois-ag-report-joliet-police-department-fails-to-hold-bad-officers-accountable/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1754148224398000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0zhhEbKbeYUSknLIooa27M">violations</a>.
In legal records obtained by The Daily Wire, questions arose as to the methods of police interrogation. No notes or body cam footage, no recordings of any kind, or statements by witnesses were included in Freedom of Information Act documents issued by the Joliet Police Department; only a summary of allegations made by the original investigating officer.
The Daily Wire reached out to Sergeant Dwayne English of the Joliet Police Department for comment, but did not hear back before publication.

&#8220;Just this week, an ICE officer was dragged 50 yards by a car while arresting an illegal alien sex offender,&#8221; DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told the outlet. &#8220;Every day the men and women of ICE put their lives on the line to protect and defend the lives of American citizens.&#8221;

A lenient California judge has allowed a man who pleaded no contest to groping a mother and then smashing her face with a rock to avoid jail time because of marijuana use and mental health issues at the time of the attack.
Trevor Lee Colombano, 38, faced up to nine years in state prison and an additional 18 months in county jail after he pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon, sexual battery, and mayhem, <a href="https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/no-prison-time-for-santa-rosa-man-who-bashed-disfigured-mothers-face-in-front-of-child/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KRON4 reported</a>. Instead, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Dana Simonds sentenced him to just four years of probation for the attack, which occurred on October 30, 2023.
Colombano’s attack left a mother, who has not been identified, permanently disfigured. Prosecutors said the victim left her home in Santa Rosa with her 13-year-old daughter, 13-year-old cousin, and the family dog. Shortly after leaving her apartment, Colombano approached the woman from behind and pressed up against her. When the mother tried to get away, Colombano began punching her in the head and grabbed a rock, which he used to repeatedly bash her in the face. He also ripped off the woman’s shirt and bra during the attack. Two bystanders managed to pull Colombano off the victim and hold him until the Santa Rosa Police Department arrived. The attack has left the victim permanently disfigured.
“I have cried more in the last six months than I have in my entire lifetime,” the mother said during Colombano’s sentencing, according to KRON. “My daughter and my little cousin, both thirteen at the time, had to witness the whole thing … I cannot even put into words the feeling of not being able to protect yourself or your child at the same time.”
The Sonoma County Probation Department had recommended a prison sentence for Colombano, saying he “is statutorily limited from receiving probation and we cannot, even after much effort considering the complexities, favorable, and mitigating factors involved in this case, identify any factors that mark this matter an unusual case for probation consideration.”
But Simonds disregarded the recommendation and sentenced Colombano to only probation, saying his mental health issues, as well as his marijuana consumption and stress level were contributing factors in the attack.
“Justice was not served in this case,” Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said in a statement after the sentencing. “This woman will be permanently scarred for the rest of her life, both physically and emotionally. Her daughter and niece’s sense of safety and well-being will never be the same. Mr. Colombano is a menace to public safety, period, and should be sitting in prison.”
It is not the first time Judge Simonds has allowed a dangerous offender to avoid prison time. In February 2024, she overruled the prosecutor’s objections to sentence a repeat felony DUI offender to probation, the DA’s office <a href="https://da.sonomacounty.ca.gov/repeat-felony-dui-offender-sentenced-to-probation-for-a-second-time-was-on-felony-probation-at-the-time-of-this-offense-now-has-five-dui-convictions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at the time.
Juan Garnica Vigil was convicted of DUI five times. On his fourth conviction, instead of jail time, Simonds sentenced him to probation. Vigil was then convicted of DUI a fifth time, but again Simonds only sentenced him to probation.

Kelly concluded by saying that she hoped that Pskai &#8220;wasn&#8217;t aware of&#8221; the allegations when the interview occurred.

Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, reportedly hit his ex-girlfriend in the face because he thought that she was hitting on another man at a high-profile event more than a decade ago.
Three friends of the woman, a New York lawyer, <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13898791/Kamala-Harris-husband-Doug-Emhoff-accused-ex-girlfriend-slap.html?ns_mchannel=rss&amp;ns_campaign=1490&amp;ito=social-twitter_dailymailus">told</a> the Daily Mail about the alleged attack in 2012 on the condition that neither they nor the woman, who was only identified as &#8220;Jane,&#8221; be named out of fear of retaliation.
The altercation reportedly happened at the May 2012 Cannes Film Festival in France as Emhoff and Jane waited in line for a taxi to take them back to their hotel room.
The two met on an online dating website and had been dating for three months when the incident occurred, the report said. The friends provided the British publication with photos of the two together, travel documents, and emails that they say confirm that the two were in a relationship and attended the event together.
The disturbing incident comes after former Biden-Harris official and current MSNBC host Jen Psaki declared in a recent interview with Emhoff that he had &#8220;reshaped the perception of masculinity.&#8221;
Psaki made the remarks even though it had been recently revealed that Emhoff <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-harris-husband-admits-to-impregnating-babysitter-while-cheating-on-first-wife">impregnated his children&#8217;s babysitter</a>, which led to the end of his first marriage.

Jane received tickets to the star-studded May 24, 2012, event from wealthy friends and decided to take Emhoff as her plus one.
The first person who Jane told about the alleged assault was one of her male friends, who is a top New York businessman, the report said, who got a phone call from her moments after the attack happened.
&#8220;It was hard to hear her because she was sobbing. She told me she was with a guy and he hit her,&#8221; he told the publication. &#8220;It was very clear what she was telling me. She said she was with a guy, her date, she was at the Cannes Film Festival, and he hit her. She was in the car with the guy at the time.&#8221;
He said he did not know how to respond and wasn&#8217;t sure if he needed to call the police in France.

&#8220;It was something like 3am. They were trying to get out of there and they both had been drinking. There was a gigantic line for taxis,&#8221; he said, adding that she &#8220;went up to one of the valet guys, offered him 100 Euros or whatever, to get to the head of the line.&#8221;
&#8220;She told me she put her hand on his shoulder. Doug apparently thought that she was flirting, and came over and slapped her in the face,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;She slapped him back. My impression is that he had a lot to drink. She was sobbing [on the phone afterwards], but she wasn&#8217;t slurring her words. She told me that she broke up with him that night.&#8221;
Jane reportedly told a second friend, who is also a lawyer in New York, about the attack around the time that it happened.
&#8220;They had dinner. She said Doug was very charming, and it was lovely. Then I believe it was between 2-3am, it was still raging, but she was wearing four-inch heels and a floor-length gown, so it was time to depart,&#8221; the lawyer said. &#8220;She said there&#8217;d been no fight before he hit her. You would have thought it was this fairytale trip.&#8221;
&#8220;She put her hand on the valet&#8217;s shoulder, and as she was talking to him, Doug comes up,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;She said he turned her around by her right shoulder, and she was completely caught off guard. He hauled up and slapped her so hard she spun around. She said she was in utter shock.&#8221;
The second friend said that Jane had slapped him back and that she had tried to get out of there by herself but that Emhoff had forced his way into the taxi.
&#8220;She couldn&#8217;t believe he is the person that he is, and that it turned into this trailer trash moment,&#8221; the second friend said. &#8220;It woke her up about the self-delusion she was having, explaining away the teacher story. She realized he was bad news. This was the first time she saw his ugly side.&#8221;
&#8220;She said she called [her male businessman friend] because she wanted Doug to see her on the phone, telling somebody,&#8221; the second friend said. &#8220;She felt that would afford her some protection.&#8221;
A third friend, a female executive, said that Jane told her about the story in 2018.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know if it was an aggressive slap or a punch, but it was something that I know she would never forget, and something that would end a relationship immediately,&#8221; the third friend said. &#8220;She had never been hit in her life. [Jane] is a gorgeous, strong woman and you would never expect somebody to hit her.&#8221;
&#8220;I asked her if he ever apologized. She said no, but he commented about the hit she gave him. It was a tennis metaphor. But no apology at all,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;He was a tennis fan. All he said to her was, &#8216;Don&#8217;t worry about it, you got one across the court and down the line.'&#8221;
The friends said that Emhoff allegedly told Jane that he impregnated his child&#8217;s babysitter and that the nanny claimed Emhoff was so &#8220;aggressive with her, shouting or whatever, to the degree that she lost the baby.&#8221;
The publication obtained Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) records that showed they were called to the home where the nanny was living in 2009, around the time she was allegedly pregnant, about a &#8220;life threatening emergency, lights and sirens on.&#8221;
The department did not release any information about the incident or who was involved.
The female executive told the publication that she and Jane were both Democrats, and she felt that the public needed to know about Emhoff, given the possibility that his wife could end up becoming president.
&#8220;He&#8217;s holding himself out to be something he absolutely is not. And that&#8217;s bulls***.&#8217; she said. &#8220;[Jane] was always leaning Democratic. I have always voted Democratic. If anything I would like to tell a story on the other side. But this is the truth.&#8221;
&#8220;He&#8217;s a really bad guy,&#8221; she added. &#8220;To hold him out as a supporter of women is just disgusting.&#8221;
Neither Emhoff nor Jane responded to requests for comment.

Diego Rodriguez-Salvador, 24, is accused of holding a 13-year-old girl at knifepoint while driving her to his trailer park home and raping her, NBC&#8217;s New Orleans affiliate WDSU <a href="https://www.wdsu.com/article/kenner-kidnapping-rape-teen-suspect-sought/62056382" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Police asked for the public&#8217;s help in finding Rodriguez-Salvodor before he turned himself over to authorities in New Orleans. WDSU reported that police initially struggled to find the suspect because he is &#8220;undocumented,&#8221; and Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley described him as &#8220;a ghost.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve said it over and over again, it is a challenge for law enforcement across the whole country. When [illegal immigrants] come into this country, they&#8217;re basically ghosts,&#8221; Conley said at a news conference. &#8220;They disappear. We have no identifiers. It&#8217;s challenging to even identify them through any of our databases.&#8221;
The 13-year-old victim told police that she previously knew Rodriguez-Salvador since he was one of her brother&#8217;s friends. The girl said that Rodriguez-Salvador told her he was driving her to the store, but when she noticed he was driving in the wrong direction, she told authorities that the suspect pulled out a knife. After arriving at his trailer park home, Rodriguez-Salvador allegedly forced himself on the girl.
&#8220;Anybody that uses a knife and overpowers a 13-year-old girl to rape them and then flees, that&#8217;s a coward,&#8221; Conley said.

Ugandan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sports">athlete</a> Rebecca Cheptegei is in critical condition after allegedly being doused in gasoline and set on fire by her boyfriend.
The 33-year-old Olympic athlete who most recently competed in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/paris-olympics">Paris</a> had extensive burns on over 75% of her body, according to her doctor, per a <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c984rz0ypeno">BBC News</a> report. She was attacked at her home in western Kenya just across the border from Uganda.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom said on Monday that the attack occurred on Sunday, September 1, following a dispute between her and boyfriend Dickson Ndiema. She was said to be returning from church with her two children when the attack occurred. The report alleged the fight had to do with a land dispute.
“The couple were heard quarreling outside their house. During the altercation, the boyfriend was seen pouring a liquid on the woman before burning her,” Kosiom said, per the outlet.
Cheptegei finished 44th in the marathon at the Paris Olympics this summer. She previously won gold at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2022, per BBC.

Kosiom told <a href="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/western/article/2001502056/ugandan-athlete-rebecca-cheptegei-fighting-for-life-after-petrol-attack">The Standard</a>, “[Ndiema] is believed to have sneaked into the compound at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday while the wife and the children were in church. Upon returning, Dickson, who had procured petrol, began pouring it on Rebecca before he set her ablaze.”
Neighbors are said to have rescued both injured parties and extinguished the flames. Both were transported to Kitale County Referral Hospital. Cheptegei’s parents said she had purchased the property in Trans Nzoia and built a house to be closer to training facilities.

Self-proclaimed neo-nazis recently demonstrated in Nashville, Tennessee, sparking outrage and prompting condemnations from local leaders and members of the Jewish community.
One neo-nazi protester from Canada was charged with felony aggravated assault and disorderly conduct after <a href="https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/nashville/neo-nazi-protester-arrested-for-assaulting-nashville-bartender-with-flag-police/">striking</a> a 19-year-old in the ribs and in the face with a flagpole. The incident happened when 15 to 20 neo-nazi demonstrators assembled on Broadway in downtown Nashville.
“Chief John Drake condemned the hate being spread by the Neo-Nazi group,” Metro police said in a statement. “He expressed his appreciation to the MNPD officers who spent their late afternoon/early evening monitoring the group’s activities,” it went on to say.
“I want to say to these visitors from out of town: You are not welcome here,” Council Member at Large Zulfat Suara <a href="https://www.jpost.com/diaspora/article-810898">said</a>. “Nashville government condemns all forms of hate, and when you come for one of us, you’re coming for all of us, and we continue to stand together for Nashvillians.”
Nashville Metropolitan Police Department Chief John Drake explained that the group is believed to be operating out of a rental property in Kentucky. Chief Drake also noted that police officers monitored the demonstrations by the neo-nazi group in order to prevent altercations between them and passerbys.
“Even Nazi speech is protected under the United States Constitution,” Drake said while also assuring that police would step in if members of the group engaged in any illegal activity. He also advised members of the public to avoid interacting with the group, explaining that they were filming videos to use in propaganda.
Nashville Jewish Federation CEO Rabbi Dan Horowitz condemned the organization’s rally and called on local law enforcement to enforce laws against parades without permits, wearing masks for disguise on public property, and littering at a Nashville City Council meeting on Tuesday.
“We have been warning our local and state elected officials to act, and thus far, insufficient action has been taken to enforce our current laws,” the Horowitz’s organization said on social media. “We very much appreciate the efforts of law enforcement to disrupt these activities to the extent possible, and we now call on our elected officials to use the full force and effect of our local and state laws.”

A pro-abortion woman physically assaulted a pro-life activist in Portland after she claimed that miscarriages are abortions and he disagreed.
As RedState <a href="https://redstate.com/bonchie/2024/05/29/watch-scary-scene-as-biden-rushes-a-reporter-and-shows-his-derangement-n2174791">reported</a>, the pro-lifer had a sign emblazoned “abortion is murder” when he was accosted by the pro-abortion woman, who was accompanied by her young daughter.
“Women are being airlifted from Idaho to Oregon right now because they can’t get life-saving emergency abortions,” the woman claimed. “Doctors are saying it’s only a matter of time before somebody bleeds out in a helicopter. Any day now it’s going to happen. We’re gonna have the first death on a helicopter of a woman being moved to Oregon for an abortion. Are you cool with that?”
“No, that&#8217;s very sad. What percentage is it of those women?” the pro-lifer responded.
“What do you mean what ******* percentage? All of them. That&#8217;s the only way they can get abortions, is by coming here,” the woman snapped.
