Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have descended on airports across the country, expanding enforcement operations to target illegal immigrants who overstayed their visas, according to The New York Times.
Federal immigration officers have been seen arresting individuals at the check-in counters and boarding gates and are said to be operating at 15 airports, the outlet <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/28/us/ice-arrests-airports-visa-overstay.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, citing documents and interviews with immigration attorneys.
&#8220;This administration is working diligently to ensure that aliens in our country illegally can no longer fly unless it is out of our country to self-deport,&#8221; a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson told The New York Times.
The latest operation builds on a TSA-ICE partnership launched in May 2025 to arrest individuals with outstanding deportation orders at airports, The Times reported.
It also comes as the Trump administration ramps up pressure on ICE to increase arrest numbers, agency sources have recently told The Daily Wire.

ICE arrested Chantal Alejandra Morales Rojas on July 20 while she attempted to board a Southwest Airlines flight from Denver to Oakland, <a href="https://www.9news.com/article/news/latest-news-ott/immigration-judge-grants-bond-woman-ice-dia/73-a462eafa-ef1f-4fc1-af6e-60be892e77ba?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to 9News. The incident was captured on video, appearing to show plainclothes officers intercepting her on the jetway before escorting her away.
All the while, the woman behind the camera was repeatedly calling for &#8220;help&#8221; and crying out &#8220;ICE is here&#8221; and &#8220;f*ck ICE,&#8221; according to the video.
A GoFundMe set up for Morales Rojas said she has a valid work permit and a pending asylum application, 9News reported.
ICE said she entered the United States on October 20, 2024, and that her visa expired on January 4, 2025, according to the outlet. The agency added that having a pending case or work authorization doesn&#8217;t keep ICE from making an arrest.
&#8220;A &#8216;work permit&#8217; and/or a pending asylum case does NOT confer any type of legal status in the United States or prevent ICE from arresting or deporting an illegal alien from the country,&#8221; ICE said.
An immigration judge has since granted bond to Morales Rojas, <a href="https://www.9news.com/article/news/latest-news-ott/immigration-judge-grants-bond-woman-ice-dia/73-a462eafa-ef1f-4fc1-af6e-60be892e77ba" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to 9News.
As a result of the Trump administration&#8217;s latest arrest effort, immigration lawyers say they are instructing their clients awaiting decisions on pending immigration applications to avoid travel.
&#8220;Before, I was saying, ‘As long as you have an ID, you can travel domestically.&#8217; Now I am turning around and saying, ‘If you are in the process of changing status, avoid any travel,'&#8221; Shannon Shepherd, an immigration lawyer who is vice chair for the Chicago chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, told The Times.

American Airlines was forced to briefly <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/faa-issues-american-airlines-nationwide-ground-stop-over-it-outage-2026-07-28/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">halt all departures</a> nationwide Tuesday evening after an internal technology failure disrupted the connectivity of key operating systems, stranding passengers and delaying more than a thousand flights before service resumed later that night.
The Federal Aviation Administration&#8217;s Air Traffic Control System Command Center ordered the ground stop around 6:30 p.m. ET, barring American Airlines and its regional affiliates from taking off anywhere in the country.
The airline confirmed that a technical problem had temporarily disrupted the links between some of its systems, and said crews worked quickly to bring everything back online. The stoppage lasted under an hour before the FAA lifted it and American resumed departures, saying its infrastructure was functioning normally again.
Flight-tracking services reported that roughly 1,100 flights — about 30% of American Airlines&#8217; schedule for the day — were delayed, while more than 200 flights were canceled outright. The outage compounded an already difficult night for travelers, as severe thunderstorms across the East Coast had independently triggered delays and ground stops at several major airports. Aircraft that were already airborne when the outage struck were not affected, and American used social media to update customers as its IT staff worked to restore functionality.
Carriers rely on a chain of interconnected platforms: reservation and booking software, crew-scheduling tools, weight-and-balance calculations, dispatch systems, gate and check-in technology, baggage handling networks, and links to air traffic control and regulatory data feeds.
A breakdown in any single link can have ripple effects. Even a fully-fueled, mechanically sound aircraft can be grounded if crew-legality systems or dispatch software go offline, since federal rules require that data before a flight can take off.
This kind of failure is not unprecedented. In March, a major technology failure catalyzed thousands of flight cancellations and delays. “A faulty software update tied to widely used cybersecurity tools caused Microsoft Windows systems to fail across multiple sectors, with commercial aviation among the hardest hit,” The Traveler <a href="https://www.thetraveler.org/us-flight-chaos-as-it-outage-grounds-thousands-of-trips/#google_vignette">reported</a>. “The resulting outage led major North American airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Air Canada, and several smaller carriers to halt or sharply curtail operations as critical dispatch, check-in, and crew-management systems went offline.”
In January 2023, a database malfunction <a href="https://www.faa.gov/newsroom/faa-notam-statement">knocked out</a> the FAA&#8217;s Notice to Air Missions system, which distributes safety alerts pilots are legally required to review before flying. Because the system could not reliably push updated notices to flight crews, the FAA grounded all domestic departures nationwide until service was restored, producing widespread delays.

One of the most obnoxious travel habits can now get passengers ejected from United Airlines flights at any point during their travel.
The airline, according to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/22/lifestyle/united-airlines-can-now-boot-passengers-for-annoying-phone-use/">report</a> from The New York Post, quietly added a line to its &#8220;Contract of Carriage&#8221; when it updated in late February. That line stated that passengers would not be permitted to use electronic devices with sound unless they used headphones.
Rule 21 of United&#8217;s <a href="https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/contract-of-carriage.html?irgwc=1&amp;afsrc=1&amp;clickid=Shy1AYUDExyZRIYTKk1cBX2PUkuXuQSXUXRP1o0#rule-21">Contract of Carriage</a> — one of the boxes that all passengers check off, usually without reading the underlying fine print, prior to paying for their tickets — lists a litany of offenses that could potentially get them booted from the plane.
&#8220;Passengers who fail to use headphones while listening to audio or video content&#8221; risk being removed from flights just as those who &#8220;appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs,&#8221; who are &#8220;wearing or possessing on or about their person concealed or unconcealed deadly or dangerous weapons,&#8221; or who cause a disturbance or disobey instructions from any member of the flight crew — among other infractions.
In addition to removing passengers from the current flight, United Airlines also retains &#8220;the right to refuse transport on a permanent or temporary basis&#8221; — meaning that the passenger could face a permanent ban. Further, &#8220;any passenger who, by reason of engaging in the above activities in this Rule 21, causes UA any loss, damage or expense of any kind, consents and acknowledges that he or she shall reimburse UA for any such loss, damage or expense.&#8221;
The addition of the headphones requirement comes as Starlink is set to expand service on flights, meaning that more passengers will likely be streaming audio and video content in flight.
&#8220;We’ve always encouraged customers to use headphones when listening to audio content – and our Wi-Fi rules already remind customers to use headphones. With the expansion of Starlink (a high-speed, satellite internet service from SpaceX), it seemed like a good time to make that even clearer by adding it to the contract of carriage,&#8221; United Airlines told The Post in a statement.

One <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/travel/cannabis-mistake-airport-could-bring-10-years-prison-15000-fine">forgotten item</a> can turn your vacation into years in a foreign prison and a hefty fine.
U.S. officials are warning American travelers that cannabis products remain illegal to bring across most international borders. The latest alert comes from Thailand, which toughened its rules in June.
Under the new Thai customs policy, getting caught with cannabis can mean up to 10 years in prison, a fine of 500,000 Thai baht (roughly $15,000), or both. The U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Thailand made it plain: even though Thailand decriminalized possession in 2022, importing or exporting cannabis without proper permission is still illegal.
Jeffrey Hoffman, a New York cannabis attorney, laid it out in plain language: “While we are seeing cannabis laws relaxed in countries like Canada and in various states in the US, cannabis is still generally illegal across the overwhelming majority of the planet. When you travel to a different jurisdiction, you become subject to its laws.”
He pointed to WNBA star Brittney Griner, who was imprisoned in Russia after authorities found cannabis oil in her luggage. “There is no safe harbor when traveling internationally,” Hoffman said. “Even a mistake is no excuse.”
Travel expert and former flight attendant Bobby Laurie said that he sees this mistake constantly, saying that people tend to pack as if the rules from their home jurisdiction will travel with them.
“Even if you’re carrying a cannabis product for personal use or have a medical prescription, that doesn’t guarantee it will be allowed at your destination,” he said. “Some countries have extremely strict drug laws, and the penalties can be severe.”
Laurie’s advice is simple. Check the local laws for every destination before you pack. Empty the backpacks, purses, and carry ons. Look for anything you forgot. Never assume a customs agent will let it slide because it was only a small amount or because you have a card.
He even cited Singapore’s chewing gum ban as a reminder that countries ban everyday items most of us never think about. “This is one of those things you wouldn’t know unless you researched it, and how many of us walk around with that in our bags?”
The TSA has guidance for medical marijuana on domestic flights, but that guidance ends at the border. Once travelers cross into another country, that country&#8217;s laws control everything that happens from there on out. TSA officers focus on security, and they will hand suspected violations to local law enforcement.
So before you zip your suitcase, do the check. Those few minutes can be the difference between a pleasant vacation and an extended stay in a foreign prison.

Jet fuel prices have fallen 40% since peaking in April, but airlines say strong demand and limited supply are keeping fares elevated despite lower fuel costs.
Fuel is one of an airline&#8217;s largest expenses, and carriers often cite rising fuel prices as a reason for increasing fares. But airline executives say strong demand has kept the fares high even as fuel costs have declined, boosting profit margins.
“I’m actually very bullish that the industry will retain a much higher percentage of the fare increases than would be typical historically,” Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan said in May. 
Delta CEO Ed Bastian echoed that sentiment, saying the airline expects to keep fares high. 
“Fuel recapture is going to be important no matter what we do, and the degree to which we can retain any of the pricing strength that we talked about from industry rationalization, that will certainly help us boost our margins this year and clearly into next year as well.” 
Bastian <a href="https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2026/06/02/delta-dal-q1-2026-earnings-call-transcript">said</a> Delta&#8217;s higher fares are projected to recapture only 40-50% of the roughly $2 billion headwind the airline faced in the second quarter. He argued fares are unlikely to fall until airlines can add more capacity. 
&#8220;Prices will come down when we can fly more, when there’s more supply, it’s a supply and demand. Right now we’re kind of logjammed,” Bastian said.
He attributed part of that bottleneck to congestion in the nation&#8217;s air traffic control system.
“As you open up the skies, and you bring more flow, that&#8217;s going to help bring pricing down and enable us to bring more people to more places.”
The current pricing environment resembles the pattern following the 2022 spike in oil prices, when West Texas Intermediate crude, the U.S. benchmark for oil, traded near $120 per barrel.
After fuel prices began falling in early 2023, Delta President Glen Hauenstein <a href="https://www.fool.com/earnings/call-transcripts/2023/01/13/delta-air-lines-dal-q4-2022-earnings-call-transcri/">told</a> investors the company intended to maintain the fare increases for as long as possible. 
“As we think about how we do fuel recapture on the way up… we are going to keep as much of it as we can.” 
Southwest executives struck a similar tone. During its January 2023 earnings call, Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green said, &#8220;It&#8217;s a strong fare environment now, and, you know, I expect that to continue.” 
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, consumers have shifted more of their discretionary spending toward the &#8220;experience economy,” which has helped keep demand for travel strong.

Several workers were injured Thursday after a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner collapsed while parked at the gate of Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

&#8220;Several people sustained minor injuries – two Lufthansa cabin crew members and other employees from service providers were taken to a hospital for medical treatment,&#8221; the statement added. 
No passengers were aboard the aircraft at the time of the collapse.
Lufthansa said it is working with authorities to determine what caused the nose gear failure.
“We are currently investigating the exact circumstances together with the relevant authorities. Technicians and support staff are on site. We will provide further information as soon as it becomes available,” the statement concluded.
Photos and video from the scene showed the front section of the Dreamliner resting on the ground after the collapse.
The incident marks the latest high-profile aviation mishap to draw public attention, though officials have not suggested it is connected to other recent airline accidents or runway incidents.

“Tower, Frontier 4345, we&#8217;re stopping on the runway. Uh, we just hit somebody&#8230; we have an engine fire.”
That transmission crackling over air traffic control audio Friday night after a Frontier Airlines jet struck a person on the runway during takeoff, triggering panic onboard and a fiery emergency evacuation.
It happened shortly after 11:15 p.m. as Frontier Flight 4345 was accelerating for departure at Denver International Airport.
According to officials and air traffic control audio, the aircraft hit an individual who had entered the runway area during takeoff.
Denver International Airport later confirmed the person had jumped the airport perimeter fence and was hit just minutes later while crossing the runway.
“The pedestrian is deceased, and is not believed to be an employee of the airport nor have they been identified,” the airport posted Saturday morning.
The person who was struck was killed. An official says the victim was at least partially pulled into one of the plane’s engines, sparking a brief fire that firefighters later extinguished.
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy <a href="https://x.com/SecDuffy/status/2053106272967279068?s=20">labeled</a> the individual a &#8220;trespasser&#8221; who &#8220;deliberately scaled a perimeter fence and ran out onto a runway.&#8221;
&#8220;No one should EVER trespass on an airport,&#8221; Duffy said on Saturday morning.
Inside the cabin, passengers reportedly began noticing smoke as pilots slammed the brakes and stopped the Airbus A321 on the runway.
Emergency slides were deployed and travelers evacuated directly onto the tarmac before being bused back to the terminal. 
The flight was carrying 224 passengers and seven crew members.
Airport officials now say 12 people suffered minor injuries during the evacuation, with five transported to local hospitals.
Moments after the impact, the crew warned air traffic control that conditions onboard were deteriorating.
“We&#8217;ve got smoke on the aircraft, we&#8217;re gonna evacuate on the runway,” the pilot said.
Denver airport officials also said investigators examined the perimeter fence after the incident and found it to be intact, raising even more questions about how the person managed to access the restricted runway area before the collision.
The runway remained closed Saturday morning as investigators continued processing the scene, though airport officials said they expected it to reopen within hours.
The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified and Frontier says it is coordinating with airport officials to determine exactly what happened.
Frontier called the incident “deeply saddening” in a statement released early Saturday morning.
The flight to Los Angeles has since been rescheduled, with most passengers later departing Denver on another Frontier aircraft.

If you thought Spirit Airlines going out of business would mean fewer bare-bones flights, think again. A major airline is now taking a page out of the former budget carrier’s playbook and cutting out the perks people actually notice.
Delta is officially nixing free food and drinks on hundreds of flights.
Starting May 19, the airline is pulling all snacks and beverages from about 450 daily routes. These are shorter flights, anything 349 miles or less, which make up a noticeable chunk of Delta’s schedule.
So if you’re hopping on a quick flight, don’t expect a drink, don’t expect a snack, and definitely don’t expect anything complimentary.
Now, Delta says this is about creating a more “consistent” experience across its network. Translation: what you get now depends entirely on how far you’re flying. If your flight is 350 miles or more, you’re still getting the usual drinks and snacks. First class passengers also keep full service no matter what.
But for everyone else on those shorter routes, it’s a clear downgrade.
And this didn’t just happen overnight. Delta has been slowly scaling this back for years. They already cut service on very short flights, then moved to limited “express” options. Now, they’re just wiping it out entirely on these routes.
Zoom out, and this is part of a bigger trend.
Airlines are charging more, trimming perks, and squeezing more out of every seat. At the same time, budget competition like Spirit disappearing means less pressure to keep prices low or amenities high.
And that’s really the shift people are reacting to. Flying used to come with at least a few basic perks built in. Now, more and more, those extras are being stripped away, even as ticket prices stay high.
And travelers are noticing.
Social media lit up after the announcement, with passengers calling it “ridiculous” and pointing out that Delta still markets itself as a premium airline while quietly taking things away.
For a lot of people, the frustration is simple.
You’re paying more to fly, and now on hundreds of flights every single day, you’re getting even less once you board.

The truck was traveling northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike at around 1:50 p.m., according to <a href="https://thenationaldesk.com/">The National News Desk</a>.
Aircraft landing on one of the main runways at Newark come sailing in, low, over multiple lanes of traffic on the Turnpike, which is one of the most congested parts of Interstate 95, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/united-flight-strikes-light-pole-jersey-turnpike-74bf3bf4960d9342c09b02d8b896d1e9">according to the Associated Press. </a>
Chuck Paterakis, the senior vice president of Transportation &amp; Logistics and co-principal at H&amp;S Bakery, claimed that the wheel of the commercial plane crashed into the driver&#8217;s window.
The truck driver reportedly suffered minor injuries and is being treated at a hospital.
&#8220;To me, that everybody on that plane, everybody and the driver, God was looking after them, there&#8217;s no doubt,&#8221; Paterakis told the National News Desk, &#8220;if we did that scenario again, I don&#8217;t know if anybody could&#8217;ve survived that.&#8221;
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident.
&#8220;While on approach to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines Flight 169 struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike around 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 3. The Boeing 767 landed safely and was arriving from Venice, Italy.  The FAA will investigate.
The National Transportation Safety Board also <a href="https://x.com/NTSB_Newsroom/status/2051075321370161160?s=20">announced an investigation. </a>
&#8220;An NTSB investigator is scheduled to arrive in Newark on Monday. The agency has directed United Airlines to secure and provide both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to support the investigation. A preliminary report outlining the facts and circumstances of the event is expected within 30 days.&#8221;

The shutdown marks a stunning collapse for the 34-year-old company that once built its brand on rock-bottom fares and no-frills travel.
For years, Spirit Airlines positioned itself as the go-to option for cheap domestic flights, even as complaints about fees, delays, and customer experience piled up.
The ripple effects could hit quickly. With one of the country’s most aggressive low-cost carriers suddenly gone, competition shrinks, and prices could climb, especially on routes where Spirit helped keep fares low.
Spirit Airlines said refunds will be processed automatically, but offered little else in terms of support. Travelers hoping to salvage their trips will now have to navigate other airlines, often at significantly higher prices.

Flight AA3599 is expected to arrive in Caracas just after 1:20 p.m. local time. The plane will return to Florida later Thursday afternoon, the Associated Press <a href="https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/flights-resume-from-miami-to-caracas-venezuela-for-the-first-time-in-7-years/3803307/">reported</a>. Miami resident Lennart Ochoa said he was excited for the reopening of commercial air travel between the two countries.
“I’m very excited to go and see the family and I’m looking forward to see the country,” Ochoa said, according to the AP.
Thursday&#8217;s flight from the United States to Venezuela comes less than five months after U.S. forces captured dictator Nicolás Maduro and brought him to the United States to face drug trafficking charges. In March, President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/article314795646.html">praised</a> acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez and said his administration&#8217;s relationship with Venezuela had greatly improved after the operation to capture Maduro.
The Department of Homeland Security <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/15/politics/dhs-suspends-venezuela-flights">suspended</a> air travel between the United States and Venezuela in 2019 during Trump&#8217;s first term &#8220;based on the ongoing political instability and increased tensions in Venezuela.&#8221; Just a few months earlier, the Trump administration sanctioned Venezuela&#8217;s state-run oil company, citing Maduro&#8217;s corruption.
“As a result of the Maduro regime’s inability to govern and perpetuation of lawlessness, it is no longer possible to certify that Venezuela is meeting baseline standards of security,&#8221; a U.S. official told CNN at the time.
The flight to Caracas on Thursday is just the first of many commercial flights to come between the two countries. In the coming months, American Airlines will also offer <a href="https://www.aa.com/en-us/flights-to-venezuela">flights</a> to Caracas from Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York, and Washington, D.C.
