Country star Wynonna Judd said she knew “something wasn’t right” with her mom Naomi Judd before the singer committed suicide in April.

During the 58-year-old singer’s appearance on the “Making Space” podcast with Hoda Kotb Monday, Wynonna talked about the last time she performed with her mother at the Country Music Television Awards less than a month before her death.

“She was very fragile,” Judd shared. “And I think it’s because she hadn’t sung in a long time.”

“And I think when our parents get older, their world gets smaller,” she added. “And she was late (that night), and she is never late. I think she was nervous.”

The country singer admitted the dynamic of their relationship “was tough and tender.”

“It was sometimes hard for me to be tender with mom, because I’m the lead singer, and I’m on my own version of life, on my own journey,” Judd shared. “And I think it occurred to me, though. All of a sudden, she looked at me and blinked, and I knew then that something wasn’t right in terms of her being off a little bit, like, nervous.”

“I softened, which I think is God’s grace,” she added. “And I just kind of reached out and touched her hand, like, ‘I’m here. I got you. It’s OK.'”

“And I’m glad I did that, because that was the last time we performed together,” Wynonna continued.  “I’m glad I didn’t stay stuck in my perfectionism is my point, I guess.”

The “No One Else On Earth” hitmaker also acknowledged “struggling” with why her mom took her own life.

“I want to help other people not do what my mother [did],” Wynnona said. “Life is a mystery … I was mad for a long time, cause it was like the story can’t end like this. No. .. I just want to help one person.”

Naomi killed herself on April 30th after a battle with mental health problems, as The Daily Wire previously reported. She was 76. Weeks before, she and Wynnona had announced the final tour of The Judds.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a free hotline for individuals in crisis or distress or for those looking to help someone else. It is available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255.
