<p>California attorney Julie Hamill on Friday repeatedly corrected CNN anchor Brianna Keilar over transgender sports policies and gender.</p>
<p>Hamill, president of the California Justice Center, argued that boys competing in girls sports is unfair, and California needs to comply with federal law via Title IX and keep female sports female.</p>
<p>Keilar, on the other hand, repeatedly referred to a male athlete dominating girls track in California as &#8220;her,&#8221; and suggested Title IX doesn&#8217;t necessarily protect girls sports.</p>
<p>&#8220;What would make this fair for her to compete, for those who are competing against her?&#8221; Keilar said of the male athlete in question, called AB Hernandez. &#8220;What would that kind of structure in competition look like?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Who is &#8216;her&#8217;?&#8221; Hamill pressed the CNN anchor. &#8220;AB Hernandez is a male who identifies as a female. What would be fair is to have Hernandez competing in the male category. It is not fair for the females competing to have to compete with a male.&#8221;</p>
<p>Keilar then suggested that liberal states allowing males to compete in girls sports is not the problem, President Donald Trump threatening to take away funding over the injustice is what&#8217;s actually harmful to girls.</p>
<p>&#8220;Okay, so in Trump’s federal funding threat &#8212; is that something that would hurt all student-athletes who are assigned female at birth,&#8221; Keilar posed, referring to girls.</p>

<p>&#8220;Would his federal funding threat hurt athletes?&#8221; a puzzled Hamill pushed back.</p>
<p>&#8220;If the money is taken away,&#8221; Keilar said.</p>
<p>&#8220;Right, so the law actually says that schools that do not abide [by] Title IX or other federal laws cannot receive federal funds,&#8221; Hamill explained. &#8220;So that’s not Trump’s fault.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;But you understand, Julie, you understand there’s two views here on Title IX,&#8221; Keilar interjected. &#8220;Not everyone agrees with you. I think we just have to be clear about that. If you are taking away the funds for athletes, student athletes in California, isn’t that going to hurt all of them?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Taking away federal funds is going to hurt all California kids, which is why the state of California needs to comply with federal law,&#8221; Hamill responded. &#8220;It&#8217;s very simple.&#8221;</p>
<p>Keilar then claimed the &#8220;science&#8221; is not &#8220;clear&#8221; on fairness in sports regarding males competing against females. &#8220;Is this a situation where more research might help?&#8221; she asked.</p>
<p>In response, Hamill zeroed-in on the harm irreversible sex-change procedures and medications have on minors.</p>
<p>&#8220;Pediatric sex-change procedures are very harmful and they cause life-long damage to children,&#8221; she said. &#8220;And this is something that the United States of America needs to examine thoughtfully, and people need to be able to discuss openly without being called bigots and transphobes.&#8221;</p>
