Lawmakers are deeply concerned with alleged efforts from the Justice Department to retaliate against an IRS whistleblower who was assigned to the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, a development which comes as a longtime criminal probe may be coming to a head.
Attorneys for the IRS agent said in a letter to Congress that their client, identified as a criminal supervisory special agent, was told that he and his “entire investigative team” would be removed from the fraud probe into the troubled son of President Joe Biden. The request for the removal was made at the “request of the Department of Justice,” according to the lawyers, who also said the move is “clearly retaliatory and may also constitute obstruction of a congressional inquiry.”
