Emma Stone jokingly called Taylor Swift an “a**hole,” then defended the pop singer after Stone won Best Performance by Female Actor at the 2024 Golden Globes.

During the 81st annual awards show, the 35-year-old actress was asked, “When you won, Taylor Swift gave you a huge applause. What are your thoughts on her cheering your win?”

“What an a**hole, am I right?” Stone jokingly replied at the post-awards backstage event with press. “No. I’ve known her for almost 20 years.”

“I was very happy she was there,” she added. “She [Swift] was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful.”

Before the “Easy A” actress walked away from the microphone, she continued joking about her pal, “What an a**hole!”

Social media users loved Stone’s response, with one person writing that she should be protected “at all costs.”

Another added, “I love seeing women supporting women, friends supporting friends and people supporting people, but why not ask Emma about the work she does instead?”

While a third continued, “There’s a time and place to fangirl over Taylor Swift, and it’s called Twitter.”

The “Love Story” hitmaker made an appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes after her “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie was nominated in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category. In the end, Swift ended up losing to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie.”

When the winner was announced, it was the “Shake It Off” hitmaker who jumped to her feet before everyone else and started a standing ovation for the Margot Robbie-lead movie that crushed at the box office in 2023.

At the domestic box office in 2023, “Barbie” led the rest, scoring $636 million with Swift’s “Eras” movie earning $179.8 million, BoxOffice Mojo noted.

Stone and Swift have been friends since early in both their careers, dating back to 2008, Fox News noted.

“It’s just so important to have people that you trust and Emma[Stone] and Selena [Gomez] and I, we’ve had so many things in our lives that have changed over the last couple years, but our friendship has stayed the same,” Swift told Access Hollywood in 2012. “So that’s really good.”
