Every Sunday morning, legacy media outlets are taken over by elected officials, aspiring elected officials, administration insiders, and the usual collection of talking heads — all of whom are there to discuss specific policies, push talking points, or simply promote their own campaigns.

For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to unravel a full week’s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.

ABC News, “This Week”:

Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile joined a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week,” where the conversation was primarily focused on Republicans and the imminent Iowa caucuses — but Brazile appeared to be setting the stage for a disappointing showing from Democrats.

The former DNC Chair suggested that the Democratic Party had “abandoned” some states entirely in order to put more money and effort into states that were seen as “battleground states” — and she argued that was a mistake because it left those states open to Republican influence.

Host Jonathan Karl teed up the topic, pointing out the fact that there are over 100,000 more registered Republicans in Iowa going into the 2024 election than there were just eight years earlier.

Brazile offered an explanation, saying that she was not surprised to see so many counties in Iowa turning red.

“I’m going to just say this, and some of my Democratic friends will not send me — uh — email later,” she said. “When you abandon a state, whether it’s Iowa or Louisiana, then you let the Republicans in. We’ve abandoned too many states trying to focus on winning the battleground and not looking at the future trends.”

CBS News, “Face the Nation”:

Host Margaret Brennan opened Sunday’s broadcast of “Face the Nation” with a look at the latest polls going into the Iowa Caucuses. In addition to showing former President Donald Trump with a commanding lead over his closest competitors in the Republican primary, the most recent poll numbers also show President Joe Biden in trouble, trailing behind Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and former Governor Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) in head-to-head match-ups.

The CBS/YouGov poll shows Trump with 50% to Biden’s 48%, DeSantis besting Biden 51% to 48%. Haley — who pulls 53% to Biden’s 45% head-to-head — is the only one of the top three contenders whose lead is outside the poll’s 3.1% margin of error.

CNN, “State of the Union”:

Former Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD) used his appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” to make an endorsement – of Nikki Haley. Hogan, who stepped down from leadership in the “No Labels” third party movement just a few days earlier, had sparked rumors that he was planning to run himself — but he shot those down on Sunday morning.

Saying that it was “time for the party to get behind Nikki Haley,” Hogan added, “What this race is all about is to try to nominate the strongest possible nominee for November. I’m convinced the momentum is with Nikki Haley … I really did not want to see a multi-car pile-up that would just enable [Trump].”

NBC News, “Meet the Press”:

Former “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd joined his successor Kristen Welker on Sunday’s broadcast, where he made the case that the predicted extreme cold in Iowa could actually work to Governor Ron DeSantis’ benefit.

Todd explained that because DeSantis had spent the most time in Iowa, going from county to county and building an organization on the ground, his voters might be more likely to brave the freezing temperatures and get to the caucuses.

“Weird things happen,” Todd said of low turnout caucuses, adding, “It should be a real advantage for Ron DeSantis … This is why you build an organization — when the weather drops suddenly.”

FOX, “Fox News Sunday”:

Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.), fresh off a trip to New Hampshire, joined “Fox News Sunday” anchor Shannon Bream – stopped short of saying whether he would consider mounting an independent campaign for president.

“A lot could change in the next few months,” Manchin said, telling Bream that he thought the best time to reevaluate whether or not a third party could be viable would be after Super Tuesday.

Manchin also weighed in on what he believed was the greatest crisis facing the United States currently – the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border.

MSNBC, “Inside With Jen Psaki”:

Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki sat down with Biden’s principle deputy campaign manager, Quentin Fulks, to talk about Biden’s next moves on the campaign trail.

Fulks said, as he has in the past, that the Biden campaign will be leaning in on pushing abortion access and pushing back on Republicans who have called for restrictions.

“I think that Republicans have underestimated this issue at every turn,” he said. “They’re fumbling over themselves about whether this is a messaging problem. It’s a policy problem.”

Democrats did make gains in 2022’s midterm elections — immediately after landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade was overturned in the Supreme Court — but polling indicates that 2024 voters may be more focused on economic issues.
