Oklahoma Republican Sen. James Lankford criticized vaccine mandates by appealing to America’s freedoms, arguing in an interview that “we make our own free choices.”
Lankford’s remarks occurred during a recent interview with Newsmax TV concerning the government’s response to growing COVID-19 cases following the recent spread of the Omicron variant.
“I’m going to keep fighting back against Biden’s vaccine mandates to allow Americans to make their own choice concerning the vaccine,” the senator said in a Twitter post featuring a clip from his interview.
“We’re Americans—that’s what we do. We make our own free choices,” he added.

“We’re making progress in this area,” Lankford said regarding the Senate’s efforts to stop vaccine mandates for large employers.
“Obviously the courts have caught up on us, and the courts have blocked the mandates on the private sector for federal contractors and for those in hospital areas. We just passed a statement that myself and Mike Braun and several others worked very, very hard on in the Senate to be able to block this vaccine mandate that now heads over to the House. We think there are enough votes in the House to be able to block it as well. We’re going to find every single leverage point that we can to allow Americans to be able to choose because we’re Americans. That’s what we do. We make our own free choices.” he added.
In another post, Lankford noted that “71% of Americans say we’re on the wrong track as a nation.”
The concerns touch on more than vaccine mandates.
“With Afghanistan, vaccine mandates, inflation, overspending—Democrat’s policies aren’t working and Americans are not happy,” the senator added.

During a Senate floor speech earlier in December, Lankford also addressed Biden’s government overreach as an attack on American freedoms.
