The word suddenly on everyone’s lips in Washington: Watergate.
After revelations that National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had “talked” to the Russians, The New York Times’ Frank Rich said, “You have what seems to be a story of Watergate proportions, married to this red hot Wild West of the new mediasphere.”
CNN piled on by brining in Robby Mook, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, who said, “The parallels to Watergate here are eerie, I have to say.”
And the hard-left political website Politico said: “Is This Watergate?” (The story actually appeared after the showdown with the federal judiciary, but that isn’t important, dammit, it’s ALL Watergate!).
Now, the creator of fake news himself is here to say that it really is Watergate all over again. Dan Rather, who disappeared after he ran the highly fake story alleging President George W. Bush didn’t really serve in the Texas Air National Guard (he did), did what all good journalists do nowadays: He posted a screed on Facebook.
“Watergate is the biggest political scandal of my lifetime, until maybe now,” Rather wrote. “It was the closest we came to a debilitating Constitutional crisis, until maybe now. On a 10 scale of armageddon for our form of government, I would put Watergate at a 9. This Russia scandal is currently somewhere around a 5 or 6, in my opinion, but it is cascading in intensity seemingly by the hour. And we may look back and see, in the end, that it is at least as big as Watergate. It may become the measure by which all future scandals are judged. It has all the necessary ingredients, and that is chilling.”
Oh, and Rather, who lost his job over his lies, adds this: “Damn the lies, full throttle forward on the truth.” Maybe he can team up with NBC’s Brian Williams, a noted war hero, and get to the bottom of the story.
So, Russiagate? Putingate? Trumpgate? Dosvidaniyagate? There’s gotta’ be a -gate on it or it’s not a scandal!
Democrats have seized on the media’s histrionics, hyping the mid-level scandal into the greatest threat to the Constitution that has ever occurred. Katie Pavlich, an editor at Townhall, mocked the hype on Twitter, writing: “Dear left: When everything is an outrage, nothing is an outrage. It isn’t Watergate.”
But that hasn’t stopped the Left from going all in. Google “Trump” and “Watergate” and you 539,000 hits. Of course, most of the utterances of “Watergate” come from partisan Democrats, like: “This is already bigger than Watergate,” Zac Petkanas, a DNC special adviser and Clinton campaign staffer, said in a statement.
And where is this all going? Obviously, Trump is a traitor. And what do we do with traitors? Shoot them!
Salon showed the next wave of this strategy on Thursday in a story headlined: “None dare call it treason: As the Flynn scandal widens, let’s consider the evidence that Trump is a traitor.”
So, in 27 days, the Left, still smarting from getting its butt kicked in the election, is going to deem the fairly elected president a “traitor.” Sounds about right.
