Sometimes when you want to meet your idols you have to practice a whole lot and then stand out on their front lawn paying homage to their work with your best rendition of it.
That’s exactly what flugelhorn player Michael Miller (“Mickle”) and his 13-year-old friend and trumpeter, Bryce Haysahi, did on July 11th. In a video (above) posted to YouTube, the pair made their way over to legendary Oscar-winning film composer John Williams’ home and played their hearts out.
With Williams’ as the subject, the duo had quite a list of incredible songs to choose from, including the theme’s from Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Jurassic Park. But with the help of Miller’s trumpet and flugelhorn arrangement, they went with what some would say is the most iconic of all the master’s work: the music of Star Wars.
In the clip, Miller and Haysahi start playing and, around a minute in, Williams opens the front to door to see what’s happening. The 84-year-old composer eventually makes his way out to greet the overjoyed musicians, who can’t believe their eyes.
Williams even joked with the guys about hitting the high notes saying, “I started to listen and thought, oh they would never make it, but they did!”
The gracious artist then shook their hands, telling them, “That’s fantastic. Great job.”
Great job indeed, fellas.
