The Trump campaign dug up an old video of Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) on Wednesday that shows him calling his district “drug infested,” which comes after the media and Democratic Party repeatedly attacked President Donald Trump for calling Baltimore drug- and rat-infested over the weekend.
During a congressional hearing in 1999, Cummings said: “This morning I left my community of Baltimore, a drug infested area” where people were “walking around like zombies.”
The newly uncovered clip comes after Trump repeatedly slammed Cummings over the weekend for the poor conditions in his district.
“Rep. Elijah Cummings has been a brutal bully, shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border, when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous,” Trump tweeted. His district is considered the Worst in the USA as proven last week during a Congressional tour, the Border is clean, efficient & well run, just very crowded. Cumming District is a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore, maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous & filthy place.”
“Why is so much money sent to the Elijah Cummings district when it is considered the worst run and most dangerous anywhere in the United States,” Trump continued. “No human being would want to live there. Where is all this money going? How much is stolen? Investigate this corrupt mess immediately!”
Trump made the remarks after he watched a “FOX & Friends” segement on Fox News on Saturday in which journalist Kimberly Klacik toured the Baltimore area and filmed broken down homes and residents complaining about the conditions in the district.
Here are some of the videos Klacik tweeted out:
“Not only are @RepCummings constituents NOT afraid of Trump, they are on board with his immigration policies. Residents are upset that illegal immigrants are taking the only jobs in the area. City contractors paying the illegals cash, leaving residents with no hope.”
“He claims to care about children & their future, however in West Baltimore you will find abandoned homes on every block. Many filled with trash, rodents & homeless looking for shelter. Children live on these streets seen here. This district belongs to @RepCummings.”
“Let’s walk through a typical abandoned row house in West Baltimore. You will find at least one of these on every street. According to residents, there is an uptick in homeless thanks to the increase in drug inventory post 2015 riots. This is
@RepCummings district, more to come…”
“8 blocks of row houses in West Baltimore are currently using water through a system hooked to the fire hydrants. Please listen to Michelle, a life long resident, discuss the water & her message to city officials. This is @RepCummings
“Residents constantly call the city to remove trash, no one shows up for months. Rats & roaches are a problem in almost every home. Illegal immigrants at the border live in better conditions than Americans in West Baltimore. This is @RepCummings district.”
